julie: yes. ofc julie listens to girl in red. it's not her favorite, but if she's feeling wlw or angsty she'll absolutely turn it on and just vibe. also shes bi so she cant not listen to it

flynn: yes yes yes, flynn listens to girl in red RELIGIOUSLY. her most listened to playlist is called "✨gæ hours✨" and is full of girl in red, clairo, hayley kiyoko, mxmtoon, and recently jojo siwa

luke: he acts like he doesn't, but we all know he does. his favorites are bad idea and dead girl in the pool because they just sound so cool, ok? he still loves rock but sometimes he needs something more mellow

reggie: yes but he doesn't realize what it means. kayla asked him (as a joke) if he listened to girl in red, and reggie said "oh yeah! i love her music. we fell in love in october is my favorite" and kayla just. couldn't stop laughing

alex: yeah but he prefers hayley kiyoko and king princess. no one can figure out why, considering girl in red is much more his vibe, but alex had 1950 on repeat five days in a row so they try not to ask

willie: dude. willie loves girl in red. he literally was in the room when she wrote kates not here. thats how much of a fan this ghosty himbo is. and can we blame him?

carrie: not really. shes gay, its just not really her thing. she likes clairo though and will listen to some of mxmtoon if shes in the right mood. flaming hot cheetos by clairo just hits different for her, okay?

nick: oh for sure. he and flynn just jam to it together during their study sessions. he loves her voice and guitar playing and it just makes him feel good and nick is not ashamed of this fact

kayla: duh. she is a hardcore stan! kayla doesn't care what genre it is, if it's gay, she'll listen (but her favorite is janelle mona)

Personally I don't agree with the head canon that Sharpay Evans and Taylor McKessie got married and adopted Kayla. I just don't picture Sharpay and Taylor ever dating. I am fine with fans using that idea in fanfic I just don't think that fan theory will ever be canon. I just don't see how Sharpay and Taylor are Kayla's adopted mothers it doesn't make sense to me.

I haven't heard of that headcanon yet, but it's an interesting one. I suppose the theory of Nick being a Danforth-Evans also falls under that umbrella. I guess I feel the same way you do; I never saw that chemistry. 

Also, the timeline doesn't really match up. The HSM class supposedly graduated in 2008, making Sharpay, Garbiella, and the rest 30 yo in 2020. If the cast of JATP is around 16/17 yo. That would mean that they either adopted rather late, or Sharpay and Taylor adopted Kayla when were really young (this goes for Nick's hc as well).

Not saying that this hc is invalid or completely out of the stratosphere, just less likely. Although I do love the idea that Kenny will somehow leave some HSM easter eggs in jatp!

As Carrie and Kayla grew closer to Alex, they allowed him to join them in watching Olympic figure skating and gymnastics. They judged performances together and gave their own scores. They judged outfits, too.

The girls appreciate his company and he appreciates theirs. Alex brushes and braids their hair expertly. Kayla paints his nails and Carrie does his make up. They say 'love you, bestie' 'love you, ladies' when Alex leaves to go back to the Molina house.

Sometimes they ask Alex to pass things on to Julie and vice versa. Sometimes it's notes for class. Sometimes it's a charm for a bracelet. Sometimes it's a song one thinks another would love. Sometimes it's a hug. No matter what, it's appreciated. They all feel the love.

JATP Headcanon Dump

Nick was friends with Kayla first because of their parents and introduced her to Carrie because he just knew they would get along well after knowing Carrie for five minutes.

He has a pet spider named Natasha that Carrie's terrified of but the rest of the crew loves.

After Julie tells everyone the truth about the guys, Kyra shockingly finds that she gets along the best with Luke. They call each other Blue Raspberry and Blueberry. Alex thinks it's a 'Shy One and Loud One balance each other out' thing.

Willie ends up becoming best friends with Kayla. They both give Reggie's country music a fair chance and end up loving it. Kayla sits Carrie down one day and forces her to listen to Home Is Where My Horse Is. It gets stuck in her head for a month after.

Ray only ever goes on Instagram to like Julie And The Phantoms' posts. They all appreciate it.

Trevor gets Carrie, and Carrie subsequently gets everyone else, into knitting and now everyone has big blankets in the colors of their pride flags.

julie: wildest dreams, enchanted, and the last great american dynasty. wildest dreams and enchanted are her romantic moments, bc they feel very perfect harmony-esque to me. the last great american dynasty is her independent woman song bc we all need one! its her saying yes im in love but im still a badass!

flynn: shake it off, no body no crime, and 22. flynn is here for a good time, not a long time! 22 and shake it off are her jams and yall know she blasts them in the car at least once a day, usually on the way to school. no body no crime is her loyal side, bc we all can agree if someone hurt julie, flynn would just kill them and that would be that.

luke: daylight, gorgeous, and august. he's a secret romantic and james in august. the line in daylight "i once believed love would be burning red/but its golden" really describes him and julie because red is the color of passion and fire and luke is so full of it and then julie comes along and he just feels so whole and suddenly love is calm and bright and soft all at the same time i just really love them ok. plus he just gives gorgeous vibes yknow?

reggie: cowboy like me, fifteen, and mean. he is the physical embodiment of taylor's country music and fifteen and mean hit DIFFERENT to him, i just know it. he lost his mind when he heard cowboy like me for the first time and died at the idea of soft country music.

alex: our song, king of my heart, and invisible string. he feels everything to a level some people cant even fathom and that counts for how he feels about willie! all three of his songs are 100% aimed at willie bc hes in love dont judge ok.

willie: don't blame me, sparks fly, and betty. willie tries so hard, ok? he tries to be a good person and to do the right thing but he was lonely for a long freaking time and now he's not sure how to function properly. i wanted his songs to reflect that and i think they do. he wants redemption like james in betty and he definitely had a sparks fly moment with alex and well, dont blame me is pretty self explanatory. kinda went off w this one but i really love willie ok

carrie: paper rings, this is why we can't have nice things, and picture to burn. carrie is a secret country stan and you cannot convince me otherwise, fearless and speak now were essential parts of her childhood! also paper rings feels like it shows her fun side off and says a lot about her and flynn (yes im a flarrie stan. and what about it?) bc if flynn asked she'd drop everything to be friends again also i think she feels like everything seems to go wrong for her, hence this is why we cant have nice things. again kinda went off but oh well

kayla: new years day, mirrorball, and dorothea. kayla is softer than carrie, so new years day is her paper rings. she wants someone to be with in the quiet hours after the party, not just during. mirrorball is representative of how she just wants some of the limelight, but dorothea balances it out to show she isnt jealous of carrie and is there for her.

nick: dear john, begin again, and end game. again, secret country stan!! back when he and carrie were dating they would totally blast all of taylors old country stuff. dear john makes him FEEL things ok? begin again is kind of his feelings on juke and end game is him on julie.
