my mortal enemy that talentless charlatan sarah j maas does this thing that a lot of subpar writers do, where she doesn't write good and bad actions, she writes good and bad people. and it doesn't matter if one "good" character and one "bad" character do the same exact thing, or even if the good character does worse things, if the good character does it its a good action and if the bad character does it its a bad action. doesn't matter what the action actually is.

both the other characters and the narrative itself will condemn the things that the "bad" character does, proving that this is something that society in this world condemns, but those same exact characters, along with the narrative, will praise the "good" character for those exact same things. which is not only hypocritical, but also just shitty writing.

#yes of course im talking about acotar and rhys*nd 🤢🤮 #it would be one thing if the narrative acknowledged how abusive rhysand is but the characters like his inner circle didn't #like they can't see rhysands flaws they just support him no matter what and rationalize away any wrong he does #but we as the audience are meant to understand that rhysand is just as bad as if not worse than tamlin #but sjm apparently just didn't notice that she wrote rhysand this way #i mean she also didn't apparently notice how she had rhysand literally SA feyre in book one so #anti sjm #i speak #but also joanne kathleen does this as well where making fun of fat people is ok if the good characters are doing it to the bad characters #but not ok if the bad characters are doing it to the good characters

episode review i am never going to recover from this

#meaghan talks #tlou hbo #tlou hbo spoilers #full review i still don't really care about kathleen like i get what they were trying to do and i think she's very sabinacore #but ultimately i didn't care all that much about her story or her brother because i just did not have enough time with her #on one hand i love her bc like. look at her. but also i don't actually care all that much #i joke about the silver fox but idc about him either #i don't even know his name #i liked seeing the ish stuff underground but i do kind of wish we had gotten expanded lore on that bc i thought his whole deal was cool #ONTO THE GOOD PARTS #ellie and sam. full stop i loved their interactions and bonding over the comics they had read #and playing soccer. and sam laughing and henry saying he hadn't heard that in a while. literally heartbreaking #the acting was incredible and there were so many moments where i had to face that in a lot of ways henry isn't all that old #in so many ways he's also just a kid forced to pick up a burden that was far too heavy for him and either sink or swim #and i think joel sees that in a lot of their interactions but he doesn't really know what to do with it #and god. ellie trying to cure sam. trying to stay awake with him through the night. but inevitably falling asleep. #that ellie and joel took precious time and energy and properly buried them. #and ellie wrote i'm sorry on sam's notepad. that's when the tears actually started and i just had to sit there like!!! cool!! awesome!! #AND WE GET TOMMY NEXT EPISODE!!!!!

Finished watching this discussion about on stage chemistry/kissing/intimacy (which @hamish-linklater-btc​ posted on Instagram - thank you so much for finding/sharing!!) and it is so freaking fascinating to me.

Hamish has good thoughts and funny stories as usual, but to be honest I found the three women to be the most interesting to listen to, particularly Esther Perel, the woman in the middle, who is a couples/sexuality psychologist.

I kept pausing and going back to relisten to literally everything she said because every sentence blew my mind. (“In sexuality and in kissing lies two opposites, disgust and delight, depending on how it takes place.” “That’s why people go and find other lovers in the first place. Not so much because they’re looking for another person, they’re looking for another self.” And when she says something about how a long successful marriage is really like a series of different marriages with the same two people. Like 🤯. This woman’s brain is huge.) I’m now devouring a bunch of Esther’s articles and podcasts because she’s so incredibly good at articulating aspects of emotions and relationships that I know I’ve felt, but I’ve never known how to put into words.

Actors, writers, and psychologists talking about intimacy together is something I have craved because to me those three fields of study are so necessarily intertwined, but for some reason aren’t often brought together for discussions and things like this. I know people are worried about embarrassing themselves discussing it, or that they’re going to take the magic out of it and people won’t find the scenes as sexy to watch anymore....but the psychology of it!! Is so!! INTERESTING!!
