Disability Pride month may be concluding but I want to continue raising awareness of each kind of disability throughout the year and not just July. I want to do mental, emotional, sensory, invisible disabilities, and neurodiversity as well.
This is Emi Ibarazaki from Katawa Shoujo and I drew her for my physical disability rep. She is a disabled track runner. I chose her because this was the first route I got when I played that VN without any prior knowledge
Alt text: a blonde girl in a track runner outfit, consisting of red shorts and a white t-shirt. She has a disability in which the calves of her legs were lost. In place, she has two artificial legs that are curved and made of metal. She is doing a V with her hand aka the peace sign. She is holding a flag with her right hand. The flag has a charcoal background. In the middle are red, yellow, white, baby blue, and green stripes that are running diagonally. The backdrop is a yellow background with glimmering stars. The text on the drawing reads. "not broken" and "disability pride"

It's really weird to me to see people bring up katawa shoujo as the "you fix them" type visual novel.
like if you read it, it is absolutely not a "you fix them game". It's a "they fix you/ you fix each other game"
Right in the prologue hisao is this complaining, somewhat spiteful guy. Afflicted with his disease that prevents him from attending a normal school, screwed up his confession, and impacts his daily life. almost every route is literally the girl "fixing" him or hisao's relationship making him realize more about himself.
Even the route people love in lilly's is "she fixes the fuck out of you"
hanako's is "I go in fixing her but end up fixing myself" (also the game absolutely throttles you if you try to "fix" her in a literal sense)
Rin's route he's more of a bystander in. His fixing is just doing what he can for her
Shizune's route is weird and I don't remember it
Emi fixes the fuck out of you. Like She non-stop fixes you and then you do maintenance to her.
Like, no. there is no fixing. it's mainly 2 people approaching their problems and helping each other. like an actual relationship??? like the game 180s and you realize "wait, maybe I'm the one who needs fixing"
