AU Ideas: Kat and Ilya’s Wedding
Okay, what if Kat and Ilya never had time to get married properly while they were spying, and even when they had Masha/Liz, they never seemed to find time to tie the knot like they always wanted to?
Maybe, after a few years of the Post Office running, Kat and Ilya could finally have their long-overdue wedding. Red would officiate (after taking an online course; Aram would gladly help him in that regard since Red is horrible with technology), Liz would be the ring bearer, Dembe would be the best man, and the task force would be their esteemed guests! Obviously, there’d still be lots of crime going on, but maybe this could replace Tom and Liz’s attempt at remarriage in Season 3. And no, Matias Solomon and his cronies can wait. It’s Kat and Ilya’s time to shine!
It’s essentially the first time the small family of five can actually spend some quality time with each other without that time being tainted by the world Red, Ilya, and Kat come from.
Basically, while Red, Ilya, Kat, and Dembe are hiding in their safe house, the former three remain awake, each drinking a glass of wine. Kat could comment, “You know, we never got to have a proper wedding ceremony.”
Ilya would hum in contemplation as the cogs in Red’s head would start to turn.
“You’re right, Katarina,” Red would murmur, and both Ilya and Kat would look up, for Red would usually call her “Kat.”
“Ray...” Ilya would say, but Red would cut him off.
“It always angered me, the fact that someone masquerading as myself prevented you from having the wedding you deserved. It angered me knowing that my name caused you to get married in a fucking courthouse.” Red would snarl the word “courthouse” with derision.
Both Kat and Ilya’s heads would shoot up at the word “fucking.” They’d be surprised because their friend rarely swore these days due to the richness of his vocabulary. Therefore, him saying the f-word was unthinkable.
“It wasn’t that bad,” Ilya would try to say placatingly, but Red would, in another uncharacteristic display of anger, pound his fist on the table.
“Shhh!” Kat would hiss, worried about potentially waking Dembe. But Red would shake his head.
“Dembe is a deep sleeper. It’s a wonder he can still sleep with the horrors he’s been through.”
The three old friends would fall silent. After many minutes, Red would sit up straighter.
“What?” Ilya would ask, leaning close to his best friend.
“You can still get married. You can still have the wedding that you always dreamed of!” Red would say, excitement slowly starting to run its course. He’d jump up and start to pace. “That’s it! You always said you wanted to be surrounded with people who love you, right? The task force! Masha! They all love you and would love to come to your wedding!”
Kat would start shaking her head, but Red wouldn’t have any of it.
“Right. I’m going to make wedding arrangements and you will have the most magical wedding you could think of,” Red would say enthusiastically, beginning to get bouncy. “And don’t even think of paying. I have enough money in my bank account to finance ten weddings.”
Ilya would sigh, muttering, “You really don’t have to do this, Ray.”
But Red would cut him off again, saying, “I insist. As your best friend for over forty years, I feel obligated to do this for you. In fact, it’ll be an honor to do this for you.”
Kat would laugh, telling Ilya, “Oh, let him. It could be fun. And it would be lovely for Masha to see us getting married properly.”
I’ll write out the whole scene in a drabble/one-shot (I don’t know how long the word count will end up being).
On another note, I still need to think of a maiden last name for Kat (and a Russian name for Dom); if you could give me any suggestions, @cesar-hoe, that’d be greatly appreciated!

Now that Agnes is being brought back in, do you think we will get “Agnes Reddington” confirmation? We still have Liz’s altered memory as unaccounted for, and now that she knows he’s an imposter and his (supposed) true identity, it feels like that would’ve been brought up if the memory erase had been about those. I guess the only other big thing left is what happened to Katarina. But “Agnes Reddington” is still on the table and makes more sense right now, IMO.
well, I think Agnes would be a Koslova (?) then, and yes, this option is still on the table, anon, but – despite deeply loving the idea – I still believe it’s a long shot. and not really for these last 2 eps as there are other loose ends that score higher on the narrative priority list for s6, imo.
then again, these – Red’s mystery illness, the holes in Dom’s story and in Liz’s memory, Katarina’s fate – could be connected and even tie into agnesgate? idk honestly, if I were better at speculating about yet-to-air episodes, I still couldn’t even ballpark what to expect here, and I’m kinda enjoying that. for now. :) we’ll see

An Overdue Wedding - The Decision (1)
a short russian spy blacklist au one-shot for @cesar-hoe and @falle-ness
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4
Ray sipped his wine gingerly as he gazed over at his two best friends, who were chatting quietly across from him.
He sighed. After all that had happened with Elizabeth killing Tom Connolly, him being on the run with her, and the Director nearly killing her, he was drained. But he was also relieved because tonight, his goddaughter’s name had been cleared of all charges of her being a Russian spy. The next morning, Laurel Hitchin would make an announcement that would expose the Cabal’s existence. For now, Ray, Ilya, Kat, Elizabeth, and the task force would be able to take a breath of fresh air.
“You know, with all this chaos,” began Kat, her voice pulling Ray from his thoughts, “we never got to have a proper wedding ceremony.”
Ilya hummed in contemplation as the cogs began turning in Ray’s head.
“What’s brought this on, Kat?” asked Ilya, taking his wife’s hand. “We signed the marriage papers. Ray was a witness.”
“I know,” Kat pushed, “but we never really got...married.”
“You’re right, Katarina,” murmured Ray, and his friends turned to look at him with surprise. The only times Ray would address Kat by her full name was if there was something serious going on.
“Ray...” Ilya started, but Ray held up a hand to cut him off. Suddenly, a surge of fury rose up within the criminal, and before he knew what he was doing, he was laying out his deeply-buried emotions out in the open for everyone to see.
“It always angered me,” he said quietly, his voice gradually raising to a low crescendo, “that someone masquerading as myself prevented you from having the wedding you deserved. It angered me, knowing that my name caused you to get married in a fucking courthouse.”
Ilya and Kat’s eyes widened. Ray almost never swore these days. His vocabulary was too extensive and rich for him to even consider it. But this...this was severe. For him to use the f-word meant he was truly, undeniably furious.
“It wasn’t that bad,” said Ilya placatingly, laying a hand on Ray’s forearm, but Ray shook it off and pounded his fist on the table in another uncharacteristic display of anger.
“Shhh!” hissed Kat nervously. She steadied the wine glasses that were wobbling slightly from the impact of Ray’s fist.
“If you’re worrying about waking Dembe, then don’t.” Ray closed his eyes and exhaled breath he didn’t know he was holding. It helped the tension in his body release. “He’s a deep sleeper. It’s a wonder he can still sleep with the horrors he’s been through.”
After that, the trio fell silent. Ray felt a sense of frustration overcome him, and he had to bite his cheek to prevent himself from entering a fractious state of mind.
Ever since the day Ilya had told him he had proposed to Kat, Ray had felt guilty. He had felt responsible for his two dearest companions’ inability to celebrate their happiness. After Kat and Ilya had signed their marriage papers, all Ray could do was take them out to an extravagant dinner with the money he had earned from his spy work. Even that couldn’t be done properly, for an enemy had found the three of them eating and caused an ambush. The three spies had escaped, and they had gotten a long lecture from Dom later once they were safe.
None of it had sat right with Ray.
He knew that Kat had always dreamed of a wedding where she’d be surrounded by her loved ones. She had daydreamed about Dom walking her down the aisle to the altar, where Ilya and Ray would be waiting for her. Though Ilya was more simple-minded in these matters, Ray knew, deep inside, that he wanted that kind of wedding, too. After Ilya had proposed to Kat, all he would think about was when the officiate would say the words, “You may kiss the bride,” and he’d think about how he’d capture his love’s mouth with his own.
Ray’s impostor, however, had ruined all of that. He had crushed all their hopes and dreams, and it had been because of him that the trio was separated from Masha, who was now known as Elizabeth.
None of this was fair.
It was then that a brilliant idea entered Ray’s mind, and it was this idea that made him sit up straighter.
“What?” said Ilya, leaning close.
“You can still get married. You can still have the wedding you’ve always wanted!” Ray stood up from his chair and began pacing, excitement starting to run its course. “That’s it! You always said you wanted to be surrounded by people who love you, right? Masha! The task force! They love you and would love to come to your wedding!”
Ilya started shaking his head, but Kat placed a hand on her husband’s shoulder.
“Right,” Ray continued, looking electrified with hope. “I’m going to make wedding arrangements and you will have the most magical wedding ever.” At this, Ray got a little bouncy. “And don’t even think of paying. Leave that to me.”
Ilya sighed, muttering, “You really don’t have to do this, Ray.”
“Oh, but I really do!” Ray replied. “I insist. As your best friend for over forty years, I feel obligated to do this for you. In fact, it would be an honor.”
Kat laughed, nudging Ilya as she said, “Oh, let him. It could be fun. And it would be lovely for Masha to see use getting married properly.” Ray grinned at her acceptance.
“That’s the spirit, Kat! I’m glad you’re on board!”
After a moment, Ilya finally smiled and gave into Ray’s offer.
“Okay, Ray, you can count me in.”
Ray’s resulting smile was bigger than the diameter of Jupiter.
“Excellent!” Ray beamed as he clapped his hands. “I’ll start looking for venues first thing tomorrow morning.”
With that, Ray hurried to his room to get ready for bed, ideas rapidly swarming his brain in anticipation of what he was going to do.
He didn’t miss the joyous laughs coming from the kitchen as he did so.

Sooo I have more to add to the story of Red, Ilya, and Kat! It’s not gonna be as long as my last post, but it’s basically the explanation of how Liz will eventually end up with Sam.
Instead of Katarina taking Masha to Sam, Red will after informing Ilya and Kat that he had a good friend from his childhood before moving to Russia. Since he’s an American citizen (I decided to keep him American — I’ll explain why he moved to Russia in a different post), it’s safer for him to walk out in the open. There’s no reason for Kat and Ilya to risk their lives. Of course, there will be tears and sadness, but Kat and Ilya trust Red with their lives, and by extension, Masha’s life. So, while Kat and Ilya would stay back at the motel, Red would drive to Nebraska with Masha.
If anyone asked, Masha would be Red’s daughter. It would be a fun game for Masha to pretend her Uncle Ray is her dad, and even though Red would know masquerading as father and daughter is necessary to hide, he’d find it fun, too. He would like pretending to be Masha’s father because he loves her like his own.
Once they get to Sam’s place, Red would explain the situation to his old friend. Sam would be horrified, but he’d begrudgingly accept. After spending a few days with Masha, Red would say his goodbyes to her before returning to Kat and Ilya. On the day the three of them have to leave, Red, Kat, and Ilya stop by at Sam’s house one more time to say goodbye to Masha. “Be good for Sam, Masha,” Ilya would say, and Kat would echo his sentiment before giving her a squeeze-hug.
The final thing Red tells Masha before they leave is, “We’ll come back home one day. We’ll come back and we’ll see you and we will all be a happy family again, all right?” Little Masha would nod, and Red would give her a bone-crushing hug.
In the following days, Masha — who Sam would decide to rename Elizabeth Scott during the adoption process — would suffer from nightmares of the fire and of killing her Uncle Ray’s impostor. No matter how much Sam would try, his adoptive daughter’s suffering would be boundless. So, he’d call Red, and the memory-wipe would happen.
The burn scar on her hand, Elizabeth would learn through the memory modification, would be from a mishap with the stove from Sam cooking breakfast.
Liz’s childhood would happen while Red, Ilya, and Kat would work to clear Red’s name. This time, however, instead of Red forming a criminal empire with Mr. Kaplan, he’ll form it with Ilya and Kat. Together, they’d form a syndicate to protect Masha from their horrible world. Red would still find Dembe in Nairobi, but I’m not sure how Mr. Kaplan would fit into the equation. Maybe she will join the Reddington-Koslov syndicate after Kat reaches out to her (Kat and Ilya can get married before buying a summer house in the US like Katarina and Alexander Kirk did, and they can hire Kate to take care of Masha like Katarina did in the original show).
So, with this modified version of events, Red would still end up on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, and Red would still turn himself in to the FBI. Masha Koslova, now Elizabeth Scott (Scott and not Keen because Ilya and Kat, as Masha’s parents, would be heavily against placing a deep-cover operative in their precious daughter’s life) would be initially distrustful of Red before growing to trust him.
Lastly, I don’t like the love-hate cycle of the original show so in this AU, we don’t know her. Liz will grow to trust Red and then she’ll meet her parents. She will not turn against Red at the slightest — or not so slight — error on his end. She will work through any bumps and obstacles that may be presented to her, and she will begin to trust Red with her life after the Anslo Garrick episode because at the point where she asks Red if he is her father, instead of saying “No,” he’ll answer with, “No. I am your godfather.” Elizabeth’s eyes would widen, but before she’d be able to ask him anything else, Red would say, “Be safe, Lizzy. I’ll be back before you know it. We’ll be able to talk more when I return.” And with that, the line would cut.
Okay, I lied when I said that this post wouldn’t be as long as the last, but can you tell I’m addicted to this AU? I sincerely thank you, @cesar-hoe, for bringing up the possibility of Red, Kat, and Ilya being best friends into the realm of my fantasies. It’s really increased my productivity level, lmao.
On the comic status: I’m currently drawing the fourth page! The part where Red takes Masha to Sam will be in the next comic.

More AU ideas
Okay, so I just had a BRILLIANT idea on how @cesar-hoe’s and my AU on Kat, Red, and Ilya being besties could tie into the show’s canon events!
Basically, just make a Russian KGB agent tripling as a Cabal operative and a CIA officer (while being loyal to the Cabal) take on Red’s identity through a facial surgery by Hans Koehler and have him frame the Red who is friends with Ilya and Kat. He could do this to get back at Dom, who is a former KGB operative.
Since Red, Ilya, and Kat do not work for any country’s intelligence organization, their thing could be having Kat seduce the fake Red while masquerading as a CIA double-agent who’s allegiance is with the KGB. That way, Kat can get evidence that this Red is an impostor. Dom, who is technically Red, Ilya, and Kat’s handler, could be apprehensive about the plan because he is also like a father to the three of them, but Kat can convince him to let her take on this mission. Unfortunately, this is when Kat gets pregnant with Elizabeth. Thankfully, it’s not with the impostor and it’s actually Ilya’s baby, but for the purposes of the mission, Kat has to pretend the baby is the impostor’s. This can strain Ilya and Kat’s relationship a bit, but Red can convince them to reconcile and focus on the baby’s arrival (so instead of Elizabeth being Masha Rostova, she’ll be Masha Koslova, and instead of Kat being Katarina Rostova, she’ll be Katarina Koslova).
Once Masha is born, Ilya and Kat will name Red as her godfather. Then everything is relatively quiet for the three of them. Four years pass, and Kat gets a significant amount of intel on Red’s impostor. It’s when the impostor catches Katarina in the act of stealing intel that things go wrong.
The impostor could kidnap Masha and take her back to America to use her as leverage against Kat in exchange for the intel she gathered. Katarina, Ilya, and Red can go after him, with Kat carrying the intel. Kat can find the house first, and she tells Ilya and Red to wait for her outside. It can be Ilya who sees the first flame, and Red pushes past him to go look for Masha, Kat, and the impostor. Ilya can follow from behind. After a while, it’s Red who finally finds the small girl, who is witnessing a fight between Kat and the impostor. Before Red can intervene, however, Masha picks up the gun and shoots the impostor. Red and Kat’s eyes widen as they both look at the crying girl, and Red then tells Kat to look for Ilya while he gets Masha to safety. Kat nods, and Red scoops up little Masha and runs. What the three friends won’t realize until later is that most of the evidence Kat gathered would be burned by the fire and that she could only gather some of it (however, it’s not enough to indict the impostor).
Unfortunately, Red’s back catches on fire, but he ignores his pain. It’s only when Masha’s hand gets burned that he begins running at a speed that would put the Flash to shame. Just as he gets out, the house can collapse, and Red whips around in horror just as he falls on his back to snuff out the fire. Tears start burning in his eyes when he thinks that Ilya and Kat were crushed, but he begins sobbing in relief when he sees them get out of the fire with light scorch marks. It takes him a great deal of effort to stand, but he manages to, and he picks up Masha to soothe her.
The three of them head to a local hospital to get Masha — and more importantly, Red — treated. Once they’re both cleared to go home, the three best friends and daughter check in at a local motel to discuss how they’ll move forward.
That’s all I have so far, so tell me what you think, @cesar-hoe! I’m so excited about this because I’m drawing a comic on it as I type.
