You know, I really liked the romance trope where Character A and Character B are enemies irl but they don’t now that the other person is actually their best friend online that goes by an online alias before I found out that Aphmau was a freshman in high school and Aaron was a super senior but I think that Aphmau’s PDH is just a bad example of that trope bc of the age difference but you know what 2 good examples of that trope is?
The movie “You’ve Got Mail” (1998) with Tom Hanks and the book “P.S. I Like You” by Kasie West (not online friends, they communicate through letters but it’s about the same idea) published 7/26/16
‼️Spoilers for both the book and the movie!‼️
I think “You’ve Got Mail” did such a great job with this concept for a romance bc they had the guy find out that the woman he was emailing and starting a romance with was his business rival that he disliked and he slowly start liking her and then falling for her and then she started liking him and then eventually falling for him before she found out he was the person she was talking to online and was already in love with.
When I saw that movie I honestly thought that the story of Aphmau and Aaron was inspired by it bc it came out long before Jess started her channel and I either didn’t know or I forgot that Jess said it was a representation of how she and Jason met.
“P.S. I Like You” — one of my favorite books ever — is a little bit similar to how Aphmau and Aaron found out they were each other’s online friends except they didn’t figure it out at the same time, I think. The angst of both of them realizing that the other person knows they’re the person they’ve been talking to this whole time and the scene where that happens is just SO GOOD ONG and I think it’s honestly more satisfying than when Aphmau and Aaron found out bc the characters in this book actually kiss when they realize they’ve been exchanging letters to each other this whole time.
I think it would have been nice to see Aphmau and Aaron start to not hate each other before they found out they were online friends but then maybe the reveal wouldn’t be as dramatic and angsty as it already is but I still would have liked to see what that would be like. With them having a more appropriate age gap, of course.

A Distância Que Nos Separa - Kasie West
Descrição do livro

Novel #4
By Your Side
By Kasie West (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)
Favorite lines from the novel:
“Are you scared of anything? What's the first thought that comes to your mind when I say worst fear?” “Commitment.”
“Maybe that bracelet didn't mean anything, after all. Dax didn't need my friendship.”
“You didn't want to see me.” “You like to assume.”
“I don't mind being your distraction, but I won't always be here.”
“He is a distraction.” “Television is a distraction. Dax is a hostile takeover.”
“Happy memories can't get you through everything.”
“We made a rule,” I whispered. “Unlike you, I don't follow rules.” He didn't give me a chance to respond. His lips met mine and stole my willpower.
“You said just a distraction. No attachments. This is way beyond attachment if you feel the need to try to fix my life.”
“You're still wearing your bracelet.” “It reminds me of a relationship that I don't want to lose.”
“I became attached to someone I'd said I wouldn't to.”
“The bracelet, which he'd always worn on his right hand, was now on his left, crossing the tattoo.”
“Possibilities don't hurt as much as realities. Possibilities are exciting and endless. Realities are final. There would be no more 'what if's', no more 'might be's', no more dreaming.”
“Even though I knew this might end in heartbreak, that he might make my life scary and complicated and unpredictable, I knew I couldn't let him walk away. Because I knew he'd also make my life happy and comforting and full.”
“There was something very satisfying about a smile that had to be earned.”

Sometimes staying in the box we’ve made for ourselves is so easy. It’s comfortable and familiar in there. And a lot of times, the people around us want us to stay in there, too, because that’s how they’ve always known us: in that box. But sometimes we start to change, grow, and the box begins to get small and cramped. And yet we fight to stay inside because the walls are high and climbing out seems harder than staying.

Oi, povo!
2- Walter Blythe (Saga Anne) 🥈
3- Quint Erickson (Instant Karma) 🥉
4- Sherlock Holmes (A Saga Sherlock Holmes) 🏅
5- Carter e Kyle Woodwork (Saga A Seleção) 🏅

we rarely find depth by looking inside of ourselves for it. depth is found in what we can learn from the people and things around us. everyone, everything, has a story... when you learn those stories, you learn experiences that fill you up, that expand your understanding. you add layers to your soul.

Book Review #70 of 2022--
Tumblr media
Places We’ve Never Been by Kasie West. Rating: 4 stars.
Read from June 9th to 10th.
Another wonderful Kasie West read and enjoyed and absolutely no one is surprised at this point. West is an auto-buy author for me so I knew I’d be picking this one up as soon as I heard it was coming out. This one is about two teenagers who were best friends as children, but haven’t talked in the years since his family moved away. Now there’s a distance and a grudge that both struggle to figure out how to deal with on this multi-family RV vacation.
I will come right out and say that one of the best things that West does in this book is make it so that the big drama in their relationship is NOT the guy’s fault. One of the things I really struggle with in most romances is that it is somehow always the guy’s fault. Even when there’s a miscommunication or misunderstanding on both sides. And I found it so refreshing that we see that she made the original mistakes that led to the distance in their friendship. Of course, there are other new miscommunications that happen on this road trip. But the thing that tore them apart was on her. I also think the author does such a great job in creating family dynamics and friendship dynamics in a way that feels so real and authentic. I know I’m biased when it comes to this author, but it doesn’t change the fact that her character work is so good. It was also such a fast and easy read. Normally, I’m a pretty slow reader, but with these I’m able to average about a page to a page and a half a minute. Which really made this one fly by.
There was a lot going on in this one and I wish (let’s say it together now) there were more to the book. Another 25/50 pages of some down time on the road trip or something to give the reader some rest from all of the secrets and the drama that come out during the road trip. I also wish we had gotten some more sweet moments between Skyler and Norah before their romance kicked off. I love me some good mutual pining so I was glad I got some of that in this one, but my heart could have done with more.

Ao Seu Lado - Kasie West
Descrição do livro
