„Excuse my rude interruption, but is this the Kamado residence?”
You are exhausted, sweat dripping from your forehead on this warm summer day, the sun shining down on you with all its strength. But you were called here, so you came. After all, this is your job. As a midwife by heart, you fear no weather when it comes to aid another woman by delivering her child.
“Yes, I am Sumiyoshi Kamado. Are you the midwife we were calling for?”
The man in front of you smiles at you kindly. You can tell by one look into his inviting eyes that he’ll be an amazing father. But before that, you have some work to do.
“That’s right, my name is (y/n). May I see your wife?”, you ask kindly, taking off the package of tools you were carrying on your back.
“She’s sleeping at the moment, but please allow me to lead you inside. Would you like to eat or drink something? I just cooked dinner!”
The excitement dripping from his voice really warms your heart. In times like these, gifting a child into the world seems like a burden, like an impossible task. It was in no way granted that an expected child was in any way welcomed. You’ve seen it all, the horrible things father and mother would do to prevent the new life from existing, how fate itself decided to stretch its hands out and take the child away from this earth way too soon. You’ve seen tears of joy, tears of grief, tears of despair. But oh, just one loving look of fresh mother and father into their babies’ tiny face is enough to make it all worth it for you.
“How did your wife feel within the last days? Did she complain about pain, especially in her back? Bleeding? Did she have to defecate more often than usual?”
Carefully, you place your tools onto a white cloth and disinfect your hands with strong alcohol when entering the room.
“She looks very peaceful, that’s great”, you hush.
What a beautiful woman she is, laying on her side with her hands covering her belly even while she sleeps safe and sound. Instinctively you kneel down next to her, gently caressing her cheek.
“This is your first child, isn’t it?”
“Yes. And I am beyond grateful you decided to help her even though we aren’t able to pay you decently. I wish I could give you more-“
“Please, don’t worry about it. I really enjoy being here. And if it helps your wife, no coins in the world are a better reward”, you interrupt with soft voice, looking down at her one last time before getting up and silently leaving the room along with her husband.
Your eyes dart towards the small window. How lovely the sunset looks today. Is it already this late? You must have been traveling for quite some time. As if on cue, your stomach begins to rumble. Well, maybe a cup of tea and something warm to eat would be a blessing right now.
“I am a little nervous. After all, I know nothing about the birth of children and how to care for them afterwards. But I love my wife so dearly, imagining a little child with her eyes truly makes me feel whole. Do you have any children yourself?”
What a kind man he is, sitting opposite to you with a cup of tea in his hand and his eyes glistening in the down-going sun. Despite the cruelness of the world, the tales of demons hunting down humans with what seems like no aim, all the bitterness and tears, this man was able to keep his warm smile and optimism.
“No. While I do adore children, I am not married. It’s hard to find a man willing to marry a midwife”, you explain briefly.
There is no sense in denying the fact that you are of low birth, a self-taught midwife since no man was willing to teach you. And in a world full of gorgeous young girls with skin like porcelain and kimono’s worth more than your housing, you will never catch the attention of a male. But somehow, you’ve found your inner peace with that. After all, helping other woman to finally receive their own little family fills you with enough joy to overlook that you’ll never have a man or a chid by your side yourself.
Confident knocks against the wooden door rip you out of your conversation.
“Are you awaiting someone?” you question.
Within the village you live in, it is told over and over to not leave the house after sunset. And while you don’t consider yourself superstitious, not going out when it’s all dark always seemed plausible enough for you. But now, the sun almost set, the trees around you barely lighten by the weak beam.
“No, but maybe it is someone who needs help.”
You get up from the ground, mindlessly holding onto the cloak in your hands tightly while holding your breath. It might be someone in the need of help. But out here in the woods, who knows…Shivers run down your spine, eyes staring at the door filled with curiosity.
The sight in front of you isn’t one of a robber, an old lady in distress or a demon though. Your orbs widen slightly. No, this is a man. And what a man he is.
The way he carries himself with so much peace and elegance. He looks…majestic. His fuchsia eyes lay upon your host. And even though you don’t understand from afar what they are talking about, you can tell that his firm but calm voice could tame entire oceans. What a remarkable perfect face he has, the only interruption being a scar covering his forehead. So elegantly clothed with a katana attached to his belt? You draw a little closer, take in his sight a little clearer. He looks like one of the men you’ve seen before in your village right after a whole family was brutally killed during night. He was armoured with a katana too. Could it be?
“Are you a demon slayer?”
You want to curse yourself for speaking to him so ruthlessly, for interrupting their conversation so harshly. But you’ve got so lost in his sight that it seems your mouth opened itself.
“Indeed. This is a riskful area. Keep your doors and windows locked during night time and do not leave your wife unattended. Please don’t roam around the house on your own and stay with your husband”, he instructs towards both of you.
Why does he look at you while calling you “wife”? You blink a few times when realization slowly but surely hits you. Oh. Your face reddens instantly, eyes snapping towards your host in pure shock.
Tumblr media
“Oh, you misunderstood! She isn’t my wife, but the midwife that will help my wife delivering our firstborn. She’s sleeping at the moment”, he explains calmly while smiling at you.
The stranger’s eyes lock with yours, you can’t help but hold your breath. From all the men you’ve seen come and go in your lifetime, he definitely is the most captivating one. Is it because of his flawless appearance, because he carries himself with so much elegance? Or is it the calmness that radiates from his voice, the power you’re able to sense on him? Maybe nothing, maybe both.
“That is very kind for you. I will stay in this area tonight, but please look after yourself”, the stranger continues, glancing at you one last time before turning around and heading back into the woods.
“Thank you!”
“What an interesting man!”, your host comments towards you, closing and locking the door like he was told you.
“Do you believe in demons?”, you question.
His eyes darts towards you, the positive spark in them gone for the split of a second.
“I’ve witnessed a lot of deaths that happened during the night, terrible massacres with no one surviving. I am firmly convinced that a human being could never to something like that.”
“Humans can be cruel too”, you argue, pictures of all the horrible things you’ve seen within the years you’ve been working as a midwife flooding your mind.
Sometimes you can’t help but wonder who the real monsters in this world are. The demons, the wild animals? Or humans who pretend to be on top of the world, who tear down everything and everyone when they feel like it?
“That is correct. But we are trying our best, right? And that is all that matters for me.”
“It’s getting late, I should look after your wife. Is it alright if I rest with her for today?” you mumble, fingers fumbling with the white cloak to distract your mind from the stranger, from his words, from this whole conversation.
“Of course! I will prepare everything!”
You sign to yourself, gaze glued onto the woman laying in front you sleeping peacefully. Everything will turn good, right?
-at night-
Your eyes shoot open immediately, roaming around the dark room. There they lay, bodies intertwined with each other while being fast asleep. What was that fade away rustle you’ve heard, then? As quietly as possible you lift yourself off the futon Kamado-san prepared for you, naked feet greeted by the cold of the wooden floor underneath. Maybe you just dreamed it. Or is an animal outside? Given the fact that you are located in the middle of a forest, this wouldn’t be a surprise. You furrow your eyebrows, a fade away cracking from outside catching your attention all over again. No, something is off, you can sense it by the way your guts turn.
Instinctively, your hands grab the knife with which Kamado-san prepared your food just a few hours ago. You are by no means an experienced fighter, you have been skilfully avoiding situations like this your entire life. But waking up both of them over nothing would be ridiculous. Just a little glimpse outside the door, just to check on what’s probably a deer. Your heart hammers against your ribcage, palms sweaty in response.
With your free hand, you grasp the handle of the door. Breathe in, breathe out. Tame your pounding heart, get a hold of yourself. With a swift motion, you swing it open.
And get greeted by a pair of venomous red eyes.
There is no time to react any further. Not too late you are able to escape his grasp, naked feet carrying you further inside the forest.
“A demon! There’s a demon outside! Get into safety! A demon!” you scream on top of your lungs.
Please, let Kamado-san hear your desperate cries, let him drag his wife into safety. The disturbing tall and crippled figure of the demon draws closer to the house, closer to the soon to be family.
You don’t know what has gotten into you. Sympathy, a protective instinct? Whatever it is forces you backwards, right into the claws of the demon.
“I can’t allow you to harm a single soul in this house”, you hiss through gritted teeth, holding onto the knife in your hands for dear life.
How is it even possible to kill a demon? Do you even stand a chance against it? It doesn’t matter now. You slash forward with a cry of determination, aiming for its carotid artery. The cut doesn’t have to be deep if you hit him with enough precision, your muscle strength should be enough.
But before you are even able to come close to his body, his claw slices open your right arms with ease. Your eyes widen in pure horror, body unable to move even an inch. It moved so fast you weren’t even able to see its hand moving, sliced you open so effortlessly while you’re gasping for air like a fish on land.
Your body falls to the ground, the demon positioning itself on top of you. No, you won’t let it end like this. After all, you still have plenty of work to do, Kamado-san’s wife didn’t deliver her child yet. With full force you push your arms against it, trying to keep your keep your face out of its gaping mouth.
With one push you free your arm, yanking the knife into its eye. Now or never. While its loud groans fill the air with fright, you get off the ground, run deeper into the forest, desperately try to stay alive. You can’t die like this. Not you, not Kamado-san, not his wife, not their unborn baby.
But the demon is right on your tracks, hunting you down the dark forest without any mercy.
“Ouch.”
A moment of inattention is enough for you to stumble over a thick branch, knees meeting the floor harshly. Is this your end? All you can do is stare up, glossy eyes widen in the dim moonlight with a tiny trail of its blood on your face. Hopefully the demon slayer from last evening will return soon enough to at least safe Kamado-san and his family. If not you, at least they need to survive.
There you kneel, face gone emotionless, orbs directed towards the frightening creature that lunges towards you. One hit. One hit of its claws will be enough to behead you. One second and your life will be nothing more than a fade away whisper in the darkness, ended way too soon just like so many others. You never thought it would be you, that of all the people you’d get killed by a demon slayer. After all, you were always so skilled in avoiding trouble, never allowing yourself to get into danger.
But oh, now you are. And it will cost you your young life.
Tumblr media
Yoriichi can’t catch his breath, feet carrying him so rapidly to the scene laying itself out in front of him that the trees around him merge. He told you to stay inside, to keep windows and doors shut. Why are you outside? Where are the man and his wife? Please, let it not be too late, let him be able so safe those people.
Finally. With a determined slash of his blade, the demon in from of him gets beheaded, its ashes raining down onto the ground. You look…uninjured. Frightened, in pure shock, but uninjured. And unbelievably lovely with the dim moonlight highlighting the delicate features of your face.
“Are you alright?” he questions softly, slowly approaching you and stretching out his hand.
Carefully he lifts your trembling limbs off the ground, your hand holding onto his for what seems like dear life while your sharp and heavy breaths hang in the cool air.
“Yes”, you finally breathe out.
“Are the other two alright? Did someone get hurt?”
“There are inside. It was only this one. I lured him away”, you huff.
Yoriichi swore himself to never get close to another human being again, to fulfil his duty in silence. But you…Did you really risk your life for a family you didn’t even know until yesterday? Did you run into the woods so selflessly to distract the demon? What a brave woman you are, truly remarkable.
“I was hoping for you to return”, you add.
His warm hand feels almost therapeutic against yours, calming down your tingling nerves and beating heart. You survived. Is this really possible? While kneeling down and staring right into the face of that frightful demon, you already accepted your fate. But that he’ll show up like a knight in shining armour, saving you just before getting beheaded…It seems like a miracle to you.
“I came here as fast as I could. This area was full of these creatures”, he explains briefly, fuchsia eyes resting on you.
“(y/n)!”
A thick stone falls from your heart. It’s him.
“Kamado-san, is your wife alright? Are you alright?” you blabber, the man sprinting towards you as if his life depends on it.
“You saved us. Even though you don’t even know me and my wife, you risked your own life to save ours. And you…You really came. I’m beyond thankful.”
He falls to his knees, leaving you completely speechless.
“She really was outstanding brave. Normally the sight of a demon alone is enough for most humans to lose their minds. You are exceptional, (y/n).”
It sounds so strange, hearing your name out of this charismatic stranger’s mouth. But the way his eyes lock with yours sends shivers down your spine, makes your heart pound against your ribcage all over again.
“What is your name?”
“Yoriichi Tsugikuni.”
Yoriichi. What an exceptional name that matches his majestic appearance perfectly. It seems so easy to get lost in his eyes, to study every inch of his face. And his smell…
“I don’t mean to interrupt your conversation, but I think my wife will deliver her child soon.”
Your eyes dart towards Kamado-san immediately.
“Why are you saying so?”
“Since she woke up from your screams, she seems to have contractions.”
You don’t think twice. As fast as your feet are able to carry you, you sprint back into the house, back to the reason why you originally came here.
-the next morning-
“Sleep well. You deserve it”, you whisper into the woman’s ear gently, wrapping her up inside a blanket before leaving the room discretely.
The birth went smooth and faster than you expected for a first born. Not long after you arrived by her side, she delivered the baby with tears of joy running down her face, her husband telling her over and over how much he loves her. It was bittersweet, seeing in front of your very own eyes what you’ll never have. Just after encountering him, just after those strange feeling that he triggered in you.
“I’m glad to see you are alright.”
You stop in your tracks, staring at the back of him in disbelief. There he sits, facing the sun while his broad shoulders catch your attention all over again.
“I’ll make some tea”, Kamado-san discretely announces before hushing into the house.
“I am in no way responsible for the miracle that happened tonight. That was you and Kamado-san’s wife”, you explain briefly, sitting down next to him.
The sun caresses your skin gently. You never thought its hot beams would calm your nerves before the incident of this night. You smile at the little bundle of joy Yoriichi is holding in his arms. Oh, how well it suits him. Someone like him must be a good father.
“I’ll be leaving after I had a cup of tea. It wouldn’t be right to keep eating for free here”, he announces all of the sudden.
“Don’t say that.”
Out of instinct, you place on hand on his firm shoulder and wrap the other around his strong biceps.
“You saved our lives tonight. It if hadn’t be for you, not only would we be dead, but this child you’re holding in your arms wouldn’t be born, either.”
“Don’t look at me like that.”
Your eyes freeze, unable to tear away from his beautiful sight. Why does he make you feel this way? What is it that makes this stranger so special? Is it his sword skill, his ability to fight? No. In fact, you couldn’t care less about that. It’s the way he carries himself, the elegance within every step he takes. It’s the fact that he sacrifices himself for others.
Just like you do.
“Like what?” you hush.
“As if I am some kind of special person. I don’t deserve the affection you hold in your gaze.”
“You deserve every spark of affection for your being”, you argue.
“You’re wrong about that. I failed to protect anything that was important to me. And throughout my life, I was unable to do what I was supposed to do. I am worthless.”
“How could you even say something like that? How could you talk about yourself so negatively after saving four lives this night?”
“Because of the countless lives I failed to protect.”
“So what? Does it make be a bad midwife that I wasn’t able to save every single child? The losses are tragic and never forgotten, but as long as we are doing our very best, there is nothing to regret. Tonight, you were able to save a young family. You should be proud of yourself instead of talking you down.”
He stands up, handing you the new-born carefully before grabbing his sword.
“Are you about to leave?” Kamado-san questions from afar, storming outside with tea in his hands.
You thoughtlessly hand him is son, eyes directed towards the charismatic man in front of you.
“I have to leave now. Thank you for your hospitality.”
“Wait!” you shout all of the sudden.
You don’t know what has gotten into you, but there you are, running after him and grabbing his hand just like you did this fateful night.
“Will I ever see you again?”
For a moment, time seems to stand still. He can’t believe his ears, usual tame heart almost beating out of his chest. When was the last time a woman ran after him, the last time a female even looked his way? He can’t remember. But especially you…Why would a woman like you be interested in a broken man like him? What do you see in him?
“Why would you want that?”
“I can’t tell. I just know I have to see you again”, you reply automatically.
The air between both of you seems thick enough to get cut by his knife, your eyes almost piercing through the back of his head. Please, just say something. Just move, turn around, smile. Just do anything besides standing still. Never in your life did you even think about the possibility to get to know a man better. Why him? Why a man you didn’t even know before last evening? Why someone who seems so unapproachable?
“You will see me again.”
And with that, he’s gone in the wind, leaving you with your feelings all over the place.
-a few months later-
Tumblr media
“I almost thought you wouldn’t come”, you comment, resting your head against the cool grass.
The weather changed. As soon as the evening arrives, it’s getting way too cold outside to stay for long. But when he’s here, none of that seems to matter.
“You know I always do. How was your day?”
He lays down next to you, closing his eyes for a brief moment while you position your head on his shoulder. Oh, how much you loved these innocent little meetings. After you returned to your little village, Yoriichi found you wherever you went. Always keeping an eye open for you, staying longer from meeting to meeting. Until you randomly laid down in the grass the whole evening, talking about your life and eventually, got even closer. Innocent touching, him drawing circles on your back while you rest your head against his chest, listening to the steady sound of his heartbeat.
“The baby I delivered today, they were actually twins. Two healthy girls, the father almost fell unconscious when he found out.”
Your cute little giggle lights up the air around him and fills his heart with joy he hasn’t felt in a long time. Being happy seems so easy since he got to know you.
No. It’s far more than simply knowing you. The feelings he holds for you go far deeper than that.
“I love you, (y/n).”
Your heart skips a beat, gaze darting towards him the second those magical words leave his lips. Did you dream that? Are you really resting in the meadow with Yoriichi telling you none other but that he loves you?
How much you longed for this sweet moment, how often you thought about saying those words too. Without hesitation, you press your lips against his.
While the world around you seems to fall apart, at least this is fine. Yes, laying here in Yoriichi’s arms while tenderly kissing him like you’ve always imagined makes everything around you whole again.
“I love you too”, you whisper against his lips.
Who would have thought going to work and almost getting killed by a demon would turn out this nice?

Hi! I don’t know if you’re accepting asks about your Soryuu Sensei Hakuji au, but I love it and was curious—Hakuji nearly got caught drinking blood in the first section, so how does he go about hiding the fact that he can’t digest human food? Knowing the Kamados I bet they’ve peer pressured him about joining them for dinner a million times, so would Hakuji just have to come up with a series of increasingly ridiculous excuses, or would he get stuck eating with them and just have to take the L and deal with the tummy ache later? Figures people would start to get suspicious if nobody has seen this boy eat in literally years lmao does he have a way to get around that?🤍
ah yes im happy to receive questions about soryuu sensei hakuji! im glad ur enjoying it 🥰
yknow this entire time ive just been imagining him as some sort of basement cryptid? the same way that kids dont really think abt their teachers existing outside of a space, i figured hakuji was probably attached to his basement dojo like that.
youre right tho, the kamados have probably tried to strong arm their kids' 18yo-lookin' soryuu sensei to dinner. 😂 i think probably tanjuro and kie know he's not human and just roll with it, similar to how tanjiro thinks hakuji's a vampire but leaves it alone cuz "he smells like a good person." he's gotta inherit it from somewhere!
they prob get him to come over and just tell their kids he's got a sensitive stomach and hakuji just grabs onto the lifeline with both hands and doesnt question it lol. hakuji has, however, still taken the L and suffered through some cupcakes from the younger ones bc he couldnt say no. tanjiro caught him hurling out back later and decided to help him out from then on (and also added a bullet point to his "hakuji-sensei is a vampire" list).

THE SLAYER KAMADO CHAP. 1 - A SMILE FULL OF FANGS
And somewhere in the anime multiverse there exists another world where our hero too is the demon slayer Kamado...accompanied by her elder brother turned demon Tanjiro.
With her sword in hand and Blood Breathing Technique Kamado Nezuko has vowed to turn Tanjiro back into a human no matter what, rid Japan of its man-eating demons and slay the devil that was the head of the first demon family: Kagaya Ubuyashiki.
It began one snowy day, when Nezuko returned to find Tanjiro made into one of the monsters and their family dead, only to be saved by the Moon Pillar just in time…
***
“Hai, I can't wait to get back!” Tanjiro hefted the now empty charcoal bag higher on his shoulder, making his slow plodding way out of the village and to the foot of the cold mountain he called home.
Today had been a good day indeed; Tanjiro was delighted to be able to sell off all his goods and provide enough food for his family to last another three days and like the kindly, generous boy he was helping others had always left him with a sense of deep satisfaction. Although, let's be honest, what day wasn't a good day for Kamado Tanjiro?
Lively as always he never complained about trek up the mountain, no matter how exhausted or hungry he was. The thought of eating his mother's cooking and playing with his younger siblings was more than enough of a motivation for Tanjiro to simply hike the icy, rocky trail in a place where oxygen was scarce as if it was little more than a leisurely walk in the park and even do so with a contented smile on his face.
It was the same smile he beamed at old man Saburo when passing by, the same smile he offered when accepting Saburo’s invitation for a cup of tea.
“Woah, this tastes unlike anything I've ever drank before! It's blue too - what's this made of, oji-san?”
Once more the same bright smile was flashed when Tanjiro declared that he too would go look for the blue something something lily that bloomed on the mountain to make the drink for his family, not even dimmed when a chuckling Saburo informed him the flower only ever bloomed seven days a year.
That smile morphed into a disbelieving brief laughter as he brushed off Saburo’s warnings to hurry home before the night came with its flock of children, supposedly cannibalistic “demons”, assuring the old man he’d be home by then and that demons didn’t exist - what an old wives tale!
That smile widened even further as he pushed his stamina to the limit running up the mountain as he neared his home, to the point it was most probably frozen there forever now. Not that anyone minded.
“Onii-chan has a very nice smile, doesn’t he?” Nezuko had commented once years ago, when Tanjiro entered the house dirty and disheveled after an energetic romp with the younger ones. It put everyone at ease - not tight-lipped and thin, or too peeled back that made the person look like they were about to eat whoever they were pulling such an expression at - but a genuine, friendly one that declared that every day was a good day, life was great, things are going to get better as long as you kept your head up.
Of course Takeo interrupted with a “Eh, it’s very blinding!”
Not once could anyone remember Tanjiro with a frown or a scowl or…
Sobbing too would be a first as Tanjiro threw open the door to his house and only pools of blood rushed out to greet him.
As well as the screeching, slashing shadow that leaped out and lashed at his face.
***
“I think this should be enough!”
Nezuko picked up the basket she had been filling with whatever leftover wild herbs that could survive the bitter weather up there, along with broken sticks and branches for their stove. Hmm, it had been quite a while since she had left the house, she should probably be getting back quickly now. Okaa-san would be busy making dinner and tired Tanjiro would have his hands full with Hanako, Takeo and Shigeru, not to mention Rokuta would’ve long since woken up from his nap by now. She should hurry back to help.
Humming, Nezuko tucked a strand of black-and-brown hair behind her ear that had fallen out of her bun and began to plod her way home, picking her way through the snow and trees, humming a childhood nursery rhyme.
Huh, strange. Usually there would be the accompanying call of birdsong or crickets or the other mysterious little creatures that flocked to the night’s call, but tonight not even a graveyard could have rivaled the silence that echoed around the mountain.
There was no particular reason for it. Maybe it was the way it wasn’t the cold that was prickling goosebumps on her skin. Perhaps the way a screaming voice in the back of Nezuko’s head, some primal, long-forgotten instinct, was urging her of danger. But she picked up pace and was nearly sprinting home.
Or what was left of her home.
Silent as a graveyard. Ironic…it really was a graveyard now.
“NO!”
But unlike a graveyard, the bodies here weren’t buried. Not when they lay forlornly, scattered and thrown like rag dolls after a child’s rage on the ground with the remaining life and blood streaming out of them while the wreckage of the house joined them in the end in shattered wood and crushed walls and snapped doors like that. Some of their limbs had been brutally ripped apart. She couldn’t even see where - where Shigeru’s right leg was.
“Okaa-san! Ta-Takeo! Roku-Rokuta! SHIGERU! HANAKO!”
Nezuko’s knees buckled. The basket dropped. She collapsed and wailed for the heavens to hear, hands just barely catching her fall as she pounded at the ground. How? HOW? HOW? She had been gone for just about an hour! What devilry, what MURDERER, would do this? Why? WHY DO IT AT ALL? WHY HER FAMILY?
Wait.
Wait a minute.
She lifted her head.
As much as it disgusted her, she counted the bodies.
One.
Two. Three. Four.
Five?
Five.
Five bodies.
Somebody was miss - oh god.
“TANJIRO?”
Nezuko leaped to her feet. Head whipped around. She stumbled back.
“TANJIRO?”
Was his body in the house? No. From…how the doors were broken she had a full view of the disaster zone inside. Five. Still five bodies.
“TANJIRO!”
Hope. All dead but one. Was it too much to hope for? She furiously wiped at her face.
“TANJI-”
An inhuman snarl answered her calls. And out stepped her big brother…was it even him?
His clothes were awfully torn up. A horror show of cuts that dripped red warnings decorated his face, his hands, his body. Some-something was wrong with his eyes. The pupils were too - they were too bright of a red. He was drenched in blood, blood, blood…everywhere. From where? From him? No, too much, even for his injuries. Blood even dripped from his - no, no, what  were those - were those claws?!
And that smile.
Once so full of sunshine and care for every single being on the planet.
Now elongated into sharpened fangs stained scarlet and bared.
“Tan-Tanjiro?”
Nezuko fumbled back in horror. This was her brother right? Tanjiro was probably just injured by whatever it was that had attacked their family, right? RIGHT?
He growled, low and loud.
Tanjiro dropped into a crouch and lunged at his beloved younger sister shrieking with the most savage of faces and a drooling maw to match.

Time is a fickle thing. When you want it most it runs as fast as possible. When you least need it it drags on and stays like an unwanted guest. When it would’ve been helpful to know exactly how long it has been, it plays with your memories and subdues your senses to make it feel like it’s been going on forever.
And it won’t ever end.
That was what Nezuko had been feeling for the past…she didn’t even know how long it had been already, how long she had been slammed to the ground over and over by her beloved older brother, how long she had desperately tried to restrain his fangs and drooling appetite with his axe she had luckily found some way off every time he jumped at her, how long they had fought in the snow, neither winning or losing.
The evidence was everywhere, but Nezuko was hoping against hope that how long they had been struggling was proof that somewhere deep inside, Tanjiro was still Tanjiro.
There was just no way sweet, kind, smiling Tanjiro had killed their family, demon or not.
She had to believe it. He seemed to be weakly holding himself back to a small degree; Nezuko had no doubt that if he were to really want to attack her, she’d join the bloodbath on the ground.
“Watch out for demons, Nezuko-chan. Never venture out at night. Never try to confront one. They will hunt you down like a rabbit and eat you just like one.”
Why, oh, why had none of them ever taken their grandmother’s rambling warnings seriously?
Why, oh, why did this have to befall her family?
Why, oh, why must fate be cruel?
WHY?
“TANJIRO, PLEASE, STOP!” Nezuko cried out for the hundredth time, but it was all she could do to hold him back from eating and lunging at her. “PLEASE, I KNOW IT’S STILL YOU, I KNOW YOU DIDN’T DO THIS, PLEASE-”
Tanjiro screeched in reply and leaped in for the kill.
And Nezuko could do nothing but sob in despair.
…but the kill never came?
She dared to open her eyes just a crack. Her breathing slowed a little. Why was Tanjiro not attacking? Wait -
“Get up.”
The man’s monotone, deep voice was hypnotic and Nezuko obeyed his orders unsteadily. He studied her and Nezuko decided right there his gaze was even more terrifying than the fight a few minutes before.
In one hand he held - no, brandished - a sword of gleaming silver, terribly beautiful and deadly. In the other he gripped Tanjiro’s haori, his bare touch a restraint ten times stronger than Nezuko’s feeble attempts had been to the raging demon. He was nearly two meters tall, an imposing presence with his stern, deadpan expression and glowing red-yellow eyes. Long red hair in a wild ponytail whipped around in the wind, as did his purple checkered haori.
“Are you hurt in any way? Did he scratch you?”
“N-no.” The way Tanjiro seemed to cower now, hissing at the man defensively tugged at Nezuko’s heartstrings. “My brother - my brother would never hurt me.”
The look in his eyes softened, but just slightly. “I know you would like to think that…but he is a demon now. He is not your brother.”
The man raised his sword, the Grim Reaper and a guillotine about to be brought down on Kamado Tanjiro.
“STOP! NO!”
Nezuko lunged at the man with all the strength she had left, crying out. She barely made him flinch as he side stepped and she tumbled onto the cold ground. Nezuko scrambled to her feet again  upon hearing Tanjiro’s pained cry. “NO! STOP! HE’S - HE’S ALL I HAVE, YOU CAN’T KILL HIM!”
“I will kill him painlessly,” the man said gently, but as firm and stern as ever. “He is a demon. If I do not kill him he will kill others.”
He gestured at the wreckage and bloody corpses behind him. “You’ve already seen what he has done to his own family. What makes you think he won’t make you his next meal? Demons don’t care. Your brother is gone.”
“HE’S NOT, PLEASE, HE DIDN’T KILL THEM, HE COULDN’T HAVE-”
It happened so fast Nezuko wasn’t even sure what had happened.
One moment Tanjiro had been in the death clutch of that strange man, and the next he was flying through the air. One moment she had been on her knees pleading for her brother’s life and protesting his innocence, the next she had been knocked down by something that was savagely howling. One moment the man had stood there in stunned shock, the next he rapidly sliced through the air and chopped off the arm of the demon that had leapt out from behind her.
Nezuko gasped in horror as the greyish limb fell to earth in front of her with a wet thump. The man grabbed her; yanking her to her feet he roughly shoved her to safety behind the trees, readying his sword.
But none of them could have prepared for what happened next.
Tanjiro, freed from his captor, snarled and clashed head on with the demonic being that was covered head to toe in blood. It had clearly been eating before showing up, as evidenced by the scarlet saliva dribbling from its fangs and the head it spat out before turning to face the other demon. Oh good god-
Nezuko recognized that head.
Shigeru.
She suppressed a sob. A spark of hope lit in her.
Tanjiro had not killed their family.
No, she realized, he had been guarding their corpses from the demon. He had been driving her further into the trees to keep her out of the demon’s way. He had been trying to protect her all along.
The man raised his sword and entered the battle.
“NO! STOP! TANJIRO DIDN’T KILL OUR FAMILY-”
A head went flying.
Nezuko burst into tears. It was the other demon’s head.
Maybe. Just maybe…
When she finally managed to get her tear ducts under control she lifted her head to see the man standing in front of her, a passed out Tanjiro once again dangling from his hand. It seemed like Tanjiro had been guarding their family in death far longer that Nezuko had thought.
“Your brother…” the man hesitated. “Perhaps he did not kill your family after all.”
“He couldn’t have,” Nezuko repeated.
He stared at her for a few seconds, before dropping Tanjiro to the ground and turning away, sheathing his sword. “Do you know what was that?”
“A - a demon.” Nezuko rushed to her brother’s side. “…Right?”
“There are many of them in this world. People like me exist to slay them and keep humans safe. If you would like to avenge your family and ensure your brother’s survival, you must train to become a demon slayer.”
“Then I’ll - I’ll become a slayer! I’ll do whatever it takes-”
“Don’t be so rash, child. As a Corps member…you are expected to kill all demons. They will never accept you if your brother is a demon. I am forced to kill him, innocent or not.” He glanced back at her, studying Nezuko intensely. “What is your name, child? And your brother’s?”
“Ka-Kamado Nezuko. He’s - He’s Tanjiro.” She wiped at her face. “What do you mean? Can’t you spare him, if he’s never killed-”
“Let me finish. I am not on duty at the moment. In fact…today was supposed to be my day to rest. I was on my way to visit my wife, my brother and his family. I was not expecting to encounter any demons on the way.” The man looked away and his voice turned quieter. “For anyone who may ask, Kamado Nezuko, I was never here. This never happened.”
Nezuko blinked. A fresh wave of tears spilled forth. “Thank you, thank you, I - I’ll become the strongest slayer ever to protect my brother! I won’t ever forget your kindness, I’ll repay you one day!”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.” He began to trudge away. “Go to Mount. Sagiri. My old student will train you. Simply look for the former Sound Hashira, Kyogai Tsuzumi.”
Nezuko staggered to her feet. “I will! I - I’ll do my best - thank you so, so much.”
“And that will be enough.”
He was about to disappear from her sight completely, but Nezuko called him back one last time.
“Sir! Wait! May I - may I know your name? I want to know who saved my brother and I!”
He paused, as if surprised that such a normal thing to ask never occurred to him, or if it did, was highly insignificant. Slowly, he said:
“Tsugikuni Michikatsu, the Moon Pillar.”

Idea: Tomioka arrives a day earlier and is able to fend off Kibutsuji Muzan either A) Sunrise or in the more likely scenario, B) he turns Tomioka into a demon. Either way in this scenario, Tomioka turns into a demon but instead of eating the Kamado family like Kibutsuji expected, they just kind of... adopt him. Fangs and all.
I kind of think of Tomioka as being like a really, REALLY feral cat that doesn’t want to be feral but can’t help it half of the time; the Kamado’s understand and are nice to him.
Tanjirou tries to find medicine for him while he’s in town.
Nezuko repairs Tomioka’s haori when it gets damaged or messed up.
Hanako and Shigeru teach him a bunch of fun activities which he just kind of... goes along with.
Takeo shows him how to cut wood and they discover he’s VERY good at slicing up trees and the such.
Rokuta decides that Tomioka is a good nap buddy.
Kie basically adopts him as her seventh child despite the fact that he’s MUCH older than the rest of her kids and Tomioka kind of sees her like a big sister.
I imagine that he wouldn’t really remember much - if anything - but would know just enough that he REFUSES to harm humans and may or may not try to harm himself due to him being a demon which is very quickly shut down when they tackle him into hugs and he starts to realize that he’s basically a part of the family and adopts the Kamado’s in turn. Instead, the Kamado’s give him some of their blood on the regular but he mostly goes out on his own to hunt down and eat whatever wild animal he can find and whatever he doesn’t straight up massacre, he brings back for the family to eat.
Anyway, fast forward a while and a demon slayer comes by to discover... all of this.

Inotan Fanfic: Inosuke’s White Day Mission - Chapter 2
Bigger and Better
Synopsis: It’s the day before White Day and Tanjirou is busy making chocolates for all the girls who gave him chocolates on Valentine’s Day. Inosuke thinks it’s a stupid tradition. Why should Tanjirou have to return their favours? Shouldn’t Tanjirou be making chocolates for him instead? Of course, he’s not jealous or anything. Definitely not.
Alright, maybe he is a little jealous. After all, he has feelings for Tanjirou and wants to be the one receiving his hand-made chocolates. With a little prodding from Zenitsu and some help from Tanjirou’s family, Inosuke sets out to get the perfect gift to prove that he’s the best candidate for Tanjirou’s White Day chocolates.
Pairing: Inotan (Inosuke x Tanjirou)
Setting: Highschool AU (They’re 17 in here, a couple of years older than their Kimetsu Academy counterpart)
Wordcount: 8500+ words across 4 chapters
Chapters: 1 2 3 4
Status: Complete

Kie, Tanjirou's mother, was busy attending to a delivery order. Despite that, she flashed Inosuke a warm smile to acknowledge his presence. Nezuko, managing the cashier, greeted him with a friendly wave while munching on a piece of bread. Seated next to her were her younger siblings, Takeo and Hanako, engrossed in their homework.
Inosuke always craved the Kamado bakery's signature chocolate cookies, which he made a beeline for on every visit to the bakery. But today, his eyes spotted the enticing chocolate and sweet sets packaged for White Day, tempting him to take a closer look.
Inosuke's eyes roamed the shelves until they settled on a whimsical round basket. It was decorated with bright yellow sunflowers that stood out amidst the usual red roses and heart-shaped boxes. On closer inspection, it was evident that the sunflowers were made by hand from paper. Each petal and seed head was intricately crafted to resemble freshly picked blooms from a field. The sunflowers were arranged in a circular pattern. Their long green stems coiled and weaved together, forming a natural-looking wreath around the basket's edges. A ribbon wrapped around the basket's midsection, culminating in a large bow adorned with a dainty sunflower charm. As he peered inside, he discovered a treasure trove of chocolates, wrapped in sunflower-patterned paper. The effect was charming and delightful, intending for the recipient to receive a bucket of sunflowers, only to be surprised by the sweet treats hidden within.
To most people, the sunflower basket might have seemed gaudy or childish, but to Inosuke, it was perfect. Roses were sappy, old-fashioned, and had thorns. But sunflowers reminded him of Tanjirou's sunny and bright personality, always there to uplift his mood on gloomy days.
The price tag gave him pause, but with his employee discount, he could make it work. He might have to skip his favorite tempura lunch set for a few days, but it would be worth it to see the look on Tanjirou's face when he received the gift.
Inosuke walked over to the cashier and placed the sunflower basket on the counter in front of Nezuko. She gave him a puzzled look, seemingly surprised that he was considering purchasing it. But Hanako, who had been working on her homework, looked up and squealed in delight, "I decorated it!"
Nezuko patted her little sister's head. "Great job, Hanako! She worked on it all night, and was worried that no one would buy it because it's not the typical rose and heart theme."
Inosuke dug out his wallet. "It's nice. I prefer sunflowers to roses."
"Who's it for?" Hanako's round eyes brimmed with curiosity.
Inosuke's defensiveness kicked in. "None of your business," he said.
But just then, Kie walked up to them after seeing the delivery person out, and asked the same question. Inosuke felt exasperated. He couldn't exactly tell Tanjirou's mother that it was none of her business, could he? But they didn't ask other customers, so why were they being so nosy with him?
"'None of your business,' he said," Takeo smirked.
Kie gave a pleasant laugh. "He's just shy." She smiled at Inosuke with kind eyes. "It must be for a girl you like then."
"I'm not shy! And it's not for a girl! It's for Kentarou! Uh, I mean Tanjirou." Inosuke hastily corrected himself when Kie tilted her head, looking puzzled.
Kie's eyes widened slightly with surprise at the mention of her son's name. "That's really kind of you, but all the gift sets from our White Day shelf are more elaborate and expensive. They're better suited as romantic gifts. If you're looking for something to express gratitude or friendship, you might want to choose something simpler."
Inosuke looked at her with confusion. Why was this so complicated? He just wanted to give the best chocolate he could buy.
"Maybe you can tell me what you're trying to convey, and I'll help you choose something suitable," Kie suggested.
Inosuke felt a lump form in his throat. He had only wanted to buy some chocolates, not have a conversation about his feelings. Besides, his gut feeling told him that this was the perfect present, and he didn't want anything else. Four pairs of eyes stared up at him, making him feel even more uncomfortable. Inosuke wished that Hanako and Takeo would go back to their homework.
Nezuko came to his rescue. "Inosuke and nii-chan do everything together, and nii-chan always shares his lunch with him and treats him to stuff. That must be why Inosuke wants to get him something in return!"
"I see." Kie smiled. "Tanjirou talks about you a lot, Inosuke. He enjoys spending time with you and doing things for you. So, the feeling is mutual. You don’t have to feel like you owe him anything or get him something special."
"Really?" Inosuke's heart swelled with happiness at the thought of Tanjirou having mutual feelings for him.
Kie nodded. "That’s right! So, I'll exchange this sunflower basket for a simpler packet of chocolate cookies. I'm sure Tanjirou will be happy with anything you get for him."
As Kie made to take the basket back, Hanako and Inosuke yelled "No!" in unison.
“Mum! It’s my first sale!” Hanako protested.
“It’s okay, Hanako-chan. Someone else will buy it. Don't make Inosuke spend more than he should."
Inosuke appreciated Kie's kind gesture. He knew Tanjirou liked doing things for people and giving people things, but he never expected others to go out of their way for him. It must be a trait he learned from his mother, who seemed to feel bad that Inosuke wanted to get such an extravagant present for her son.
“I’m getting it!” Inosuke insisted.
“But…” Kie began.
"Tanjirou's making a ton of chocolate in the home ec room now! I need to find something good enough to trade for it all!"
Nezuko and Kie exchanged perplexed looks.
Inosuke took a deep breath and tried to explain. "White Day's about giving back to those who gave to you, right? I want to trade this chocolate for all of Tanjirou's so he won't give any to anyone else but me." He punctuated his explanation with exaggerated hand gestures, hoping they would get his point across if his words could not.
Kie furrowed her brows, although her face remained kind and patient. “Is there a reason he shouldn’t give chocolates to other people? He got a lot of chocolates on Valentine’s Day so it’s only right that he reciprocates. Takeo’s bringing chocolate cookies to his school tomorrow too.”
Inosuke's mind raced as he tried to come up with a response that would make his argument convincing, but he couldn't refute what Kie said. He reluctantly conceded defeat with a huff.
"Whatever, he can give chocolates to anyone. But I need to give him something bigger and better than the other girls' gifts. I need to show him I'm the best. Got it?"
The Kamados looked at Inosuke in anticipation, waiting for him to elaborate. Inosuke groaned internally. Why were they all so clueless? Tanjirou was oblivious to his feelings, and Nezuko was oblivious to Zenitsu’s aggressive pursuit. It probably ran in the family.
Suddenly, Hanako clapped her hands together and squealed. “You like nii-chan!”
Takeo’s mouth formed a comical ‘O’, and Nezuko put her hands to her mouth. “I knew it! I always thought there was something going on between you two,” she exclaimed.
Inosuke's face flushed red with embarrassment. His attempts to choose a gift for Tanjirou had turned into a bigger ordeal than he had anticipated. He had only wanted to emphasize the importance of getting a worthy present. Why did Hanako have to expose him like that?
"N-No, you've got it all wrong!" he stammered.
But Kie's smile broadened as enlightenment dawned on her face. "So you're getting this because you want to confess your feelings for him!"
“Of-of course not! As I said, you’ve got it all wrong! Why would I do a dumb thing like that!” Inosuke sputtered, feeling his face and ears go hot. He didn't want to confess his feelings, he just wanted to prove himself to Tanjirou.
"Liking Tanjirou isn't anything to be embarrassed about," Kie said, stifling a chuckle as she patted his shoulder.
"Our nii-chan is popular, you know," Takeo chimed in, sounding offended.
Inosuke's hands waved frantically as he stumbled over his words. "N-no, that's not what I meant!" he stuttered, flustered at how his response came across as disparaging Tanjirou. "Actually, I- I think Tanjirou's amazing. He's smart, always knows what to do, and he's nice to everyone. Whenever I'm with him, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I just wish he would treat me more special..." His voice trailed off as he struggled to express his feelings.
A smile of comprehension played on Kie's lips. "Then you'll have to let him know. Tanjirou isn't the brightest when it comes to feelings, but as his mother, I can tell that you're special to him."
Inosuke felt a sense of pride swelling within him. Of course, he's special to Tanjirou. He's the strongest, the bravest, the smartest and the most talented. A warm feeling spread from his chest through his body, and he felt increasingly confident. There was no doubt in his mind that Tanjirou would reciprocate his feelings, no matter how oblivious he might be to them at the moment. All he had to do was help Tanjirou discover those feelings. A grin spread across his face, replacing his anxious expression.
Kie beamed. "Let's not hold Inosuke up! Give him the family discount, Nezuko!"
Nezuko grinned and tapped away at the cash machine, her fingers moving deftly over the buttons. A customer needed assistance and Kie excused herself to help.
Takeo and Hanako had their backs turned to him while they bagged his purchase. As Inosuke waited, he noticed they were whispering busily to each other while scribbling something. He was too exhausted to care about what they were up to. Confessing his feelings about Tanjirou had been nerve-wracking and draining. He was relieved to be left alone.
"Good luck!" the three siblings chorused as they handed him his purchase in a paper bag.
"You got this!" Nezuko pumped her fists and gave him a nod of encouragement.
Inosuke muttered his thanks and turned to leave, only to find a small queue of people behind him. He groaned inwardly, wondering how long they had been listening to his halting love confession. A girl in the same high school uniform who had been behind him gave him a sheepish grin. He couldn't wait to get out of there.
At least the family discount turned out to be quite significant, he thought as he gave his purchase a squeeze. He wouldn't have to sacrifice too many tempura lunch sets.
He checked his phone and saw that he had several missed calls and messages from Tanjirou. He had completely forgotten that he had stormed off earlier from the home economics room. Inosuke felt ashamed at the memory as he opened the messages. Tanjirou had sent a few apologies, although it was clear that he didn't seem to know what he was apologizing for. After all, he had done nothing to warrant an apology in the first place. The revelation made Inosuke feel even more guilty.
The latest message, sent 15 minutes ago, was a photo of several pieces of chocolate shaped like wild boars. Accompanying it was the caption, "I made these for you, they’ll melt if you don't come back!" Inosuke couldn't help but grin from ear to ear at Tanjirou's adorable creations. His fingers flew across his phone screen. "Coming through!" he texted, before breaking into a sprint to make up for lost time. He cradled his purchase in his arms as he ran, the paper bag a comforting presence against his chest.

Author's Notes: I'm so happy to have the Kamado family in my fic, alive and well, and having cute and happy interactions with Inosuke. Poor Inosuke, gift-shopping is stressful enough without having half of his crush's family prying! I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Now what are Hanako and Takeo up to? Will their sneaky antics hinder or help his confession? Thank you for reading! If you enjoyed my fic, it’d really make my day if you could drop a like, reblog, and/or comment to let me know! This story is also published on AO3 where you can comment anonymously! Although I mostly write for myself, your encouragement keeps me motivated to post and share my work.

look at my poor sweet baby pushing himself to the limit to be a patriarch for this family at 13 years old. ;;
i keep rewatching the first minute or so of episode 1 to analyze every loving touch made and every word said to catch all the nuances in the Kamado family dynamic.
Tanjirou is so, so determined; and fighting exhaustion (working so hard he doesn't realize that his face is dirty, or acknowledging how tired he is when Kie tells him he doesn't have to go to town). he asserts that he has no other choice because of his desire to provide food for the family, and all his mother says is, "thank you." because she can't do anything else.
i'm working on a prequel entitled kintsugi, where i'm expanding on their life beginning two months before the tragedy.
this is also a nezutan fic, of course; it's a hypothesis that presupposes Tanjirou and Nezuko were in love from the beginning, mainly due to their ascended roles as parents and providers with their father gone and Kie grieving and overwhelmed.
sigh so many feels. if you check out the fic on ao3, i'd love if you'd let me know your thoughts. :)

Demon slayer fanfic idea:
Demon kamado family but them evil with hantengu blood demon art and uppermoons.
It starts off with the youngest but you have to cut off the oldest (at the moment) head in order for the others to appear.
So it would go somthing like this:
rokuta -> hanako
Hanako -> shigeru
Shigeru -> Takeo
Takeo -> nezuko
Nezuko -> tanjiro
Tanjiro -> kie(mother)
Kie -> Tanjuro(father)
Each of them have a ability relating to fire/sun and because of this they are muzans favorite(also because of the whole you know-Sun breather thing). They also share the same rank like daki and gyutaro.
