Were you thinking of itachi and Naruto being the same age or just closer (and is sasuke and everyone still younger or are they aged up too?)

But either way, I keep thinking of itachi being this little genius far too aware of what life as a shinobi and heir to a major clan means. Him finding everything in this world predictable in its cruelty. At least until he finds a selfless little blonde hunched protectively over a hurt fox kit and flashing long fangs at two kids that were clearly trying to hurt it for fun.

This Naruto with whisker shaped scars instead them being jinchuriki marks. Scars over mute marks? I love that fanon idea so much but I honestly forgot about it for a while. So maybe?

I would say Naruto a year or two younger than Itachi while the other usual suspects are the same age as normal.

(I’m also playing with the idea of them of course being spies in the Akatsuki but also playing both sides and working together to try and save the Jinchuriki)

Okay yes the eye question for the healing is important but what would it do for Itachi’s tuberculosis UNNAMED RESPIRATORY ILLNESS

Snnxndjshsbs Naruto who while more jaded still has a good heart under all that scar tissue and a weak spot for the underdogs. Naruto who made genin but was left in the dust because no matter how hard he tried to prove himself no one wanted to promote the monster. Naruto who is just as skilled as the ANBU (he runs circles around all but two of them after all sharp chittering laughs mocking grown adults as he eluded them yet again) but gets none of the perks. Naruto who feels one of the two chakra signatures that are kind and perks up.

Both of them who see someone like them. Someone that doesn’t fit in. Someone with a gentle heart in a cruel world. Someone who grew fangs and claws to fight back against that cruelty.

Itachi isn’t entirely sure why he confessed everything to Naruto. Why he told him of every horrible detail of his assignment.

He wasn’t expecting righteous anger on his behalf. Wasn’t expecting a clawed hand in his own offering to help so he didn’t have to do this alone.

(He still isn’t sure to this day if Naruto meant help with the ordered Uchiha massacre, help him run, or help him kill the mage and his advisors himself. He isn’t entirely certain Naruto knew either.)

They leave the village covered in blood. Naruto still cloaked in chakra that dripped with malice as he supported itachi with an arm around his middle. They were rogues now. Missing nin. They could never go back.

“Why?” Itachi gasped forcing them to a stop as he looked at the short boy next to him. So much power in such an unassuming package. The power to destroy entire clans entire villages if he wished. “Why help me?”

Naruto blinked, eyes still more red than blue as he cocked his head to the side. (It was hard to tell how much blood was on him with that wild mane of red hair.) “you were one of the only people who were nice to me, and you needed help.”

It hits Itachi then, how much power he truly has here.

Naruto doesn’t hate the village. (Or he does but that is not his driving motivation)

Naruto is following who he considers to be his only friend.

And itachi…

He will not be as cruel as the world around him. Will not throw that friendship back in Naruto’s face. Will honor it and return it tenfold.

He owes Naruto that much.

Pro-ending or anti-ending: It could’ve been better, but there are some good points.

How would your version of Naruto ending and Boruto play out (don’t be shy, make it VERY LONG, out touch the smallest details): Orochimaru and Anko reconcile and marry, we get some backstory for Choji and Karui’s love, as well as Lee and Metal’s mom, Log gets more scenes, Mitsuki is the main protagonist, and Boruto gets the shit kicked out of him till he learns to behave. And maybe we could bring Jiraiya back to life…?

I thought of one thing now, Naruto took the graduation exam three times and failed because he couldn't do a Clone Jutsu but during all this time Iruka, who is his professor, never tried to help him how to do the technique correctly? A techer is someone who explain how to do things step by step, helps to correct your mistakes and monitoring your progress but for some reason Iruka never told Naruto that the reason for him can't do the Clone Jutsu because of his poor chakra control, resulting in him using too little or too much chakra? For being the Jinchuriki of Kurama, Naruto had large reserves of chakra, at least four times greater than Kakashi's, it would have been absolutely impossible for him to even do the Clone Jutsu, a technique which requires only the barest of minimal chakra, without an extreme delicate chakra control. Iruka never thinked to tell Naruto that he had more chakra than his other students and teach him more advanced chakra control exercices, like the Tree Climbing Practice and the Water Surface Walking Practice?

mhmm i know there’s fanon explanations that naruto was neglected during his academy days, more likely it was his constant pranking and such that meant he didn’t study enough, iruka might have not noticed and mistaken his too large chakra reserves instead to just not practicing enough n stuff. like i think iruka is sorta out of the loop, unlike kakashi who really knows his shit

Sorry if I bother you 😔 but something I really hate about the Naruto fandom is that they say Asuma is the best sensei (when he practically did nothing) or that Minato is decent (when he let his entire team die and sent a child with PTSD to anbu) and they always end up saying that Kakashi sucks or is the worst, at this point I feel like everyone watched Naruto with a blindfold

See Asuma i don’t get at all that’s pure fanon we ONLY see him actually acting like a Sensei to Shikamaru, and even if Kakashi makes all the mistakes at least he doesn’t insult his students TO THEIR FACES. Asuma’s dying words to Choji had to do with his weight like wtf dude??? He had some soft moments in the war while facing his team, but shikamaru was clearly the favorite and he could be downright rude to and about Ino and Choji

Minato i give some leeway too because he should not have been a sensei. Not just cuz his eladership capabilities are questionable at best, but because he was 15. He was a teenager. That should not have been his responsibility. But he was also far from the best sensei in actions alone. Again, Kakashi did things wrong but he didn’t put one of his students into f***ing anbu as therapy. His suggestion to sasuke was at least better than THAT.

🤑 - Would they hire a sex worker? Would they do sex work themselves? He's not one to judge if his current SO was a former sex worker due to the kind of world they live in and is understandable of how hard it is to find a stable job and an income, but he would not go out to seek out a working sex worker during his travels no matter how horny he gets or how beautiful/handsome they are. He prefers to keep his voice low and muffles his cries to not attract attention or at least let everyone outside the room know what he and his partner are doing, depending on how rough the sex is, he will get loud unintentionally. If they have nice seductive or mischievous smiles that can make him blush or put him at ease, then they are for keeps.

1. neji would live because hiashi sacrificed himself in place of his children. i dont really have anything further planned for him in my head but rest assured that he is alive.

2. konoha involves itself in inter-clan business and makes it a criminal offense for hyuuga main branch members to torture the side branch members. no new seals are placed.

3. boruto is not named boruto because what a weird fucking name, no thanks!

4. the truth about both the uchiha massacre and the destruction of uzushiogakure and konoha’s roles in them are revealed to the public.

5. the villagers and ordinary shinobi play a more active role in the running of the village and it moves away from bureaucracy and to tobirama’s original vision of a democracy. the hokage is actually elected, rather than proposed by officials to the daimyo and that’s that.

6. academy starts at age 8 or 10 and finishes at a soft 16 - if a student is particularly gifted, the lowest age they can graduate at is 14.

7. we actually get a scene between naruto and karin where they acknowledge and talk about their shared roots.

8. no sasusaku i’m sorry i just really hate it. sorry sarada. i think sasuke should be allowed to stay single.

9. more children!!! more babies!!!!!!! naruto and hinata have about 4, ino and sai have 2, karui and choji have 3. stop the population from dwindling

10. i actually like the fact that hinata and choji are like retired from the shinobi industry, i dont think they actually ever really wanted to be parts of it. but hinata plays an active role in the improvement of hyuuga intra-clan rapports, even if she’s not clan head.

11. i’d have killed off iruka and kiba but that’s just me. not because i hate them (i love iruka to the moon and back) but i think their deaths would’ve been realistic and meaningful (and also hurt a lot - can you imagine naruto’s reaction to iruka’s death, or kiba dying and leaving akamaru? pain)

12. naruto doesn’t become hokage. he’s a jounin-sensei :D

13. the older generation pairs off as well!! my heart goes soft for gai and anko, i think maybe they have a kid together

Hi everybody!

So I've been rather quiet the last while and it's because I have been building up a new fandom project. I've been pulled back into the lovely hobby that is RP and am bringing my years of experience on forums, dms and livejournal to running a Naruto roleplaying server on Discord. So if you have Discord and like Naruto and also roleplay, please consider...

Hidden In The Fanon ~ A Naruto Roleplaying Group with a Rotating AU Setting

The idea of this RP is just to reset into a new AU every once in a while and explore the many versions of our characters meeting and bonding anew in every universe.

Every few months we will vote from a few options suggested by players and/or curated by lead mod Zippy and spend a while playing around in a particular AU setting. The intended minimum 'AU length' will be at least 4 weeks and we will keep the AU open long as people vote to stay with it, depending on interest and what we want to accomplish plot-wise.

Mods will try to set up an overarching mini plot or an event of some kind being built up to/going on during each AU (like a holiday or a school dance) and other plots planned by players can take place intersecting with or around this 'mod plot' as players like.

We also have an often-used Holodeck category where we post plot ideas and scene prompts and people can start a thread to play out any kind of one-shot scene or story their heart desires. And of course we have a robust set of OOC channels for all your shenanigan and planning needs.

Most of our players have full time work/school so our game is not intended to be played super swiftly - you don't need to be online or able to write/play every single day. We want players to take their time, have fun, and focus on writing the things they want to write and having quality interactions with other players.

We aren't an adult-content focused server, but we do allow adult topics and roleplay so we ask that all applying members be 18+.

Whether you have never done writing roleplay before like some of our players, or are a veteran from the LJ wars on a pandemic-spurred nostalgia trip like myself, we would love to have you join us and see what we are all about.

We are currently running a short Halloween themed Summer Camp with Murderer AU until Oct 31st, and we will shortly be voting on our next, longer, AU, so this seems like an ideal time to add new players!

Applications won't have a deadline, but we will only be adding **four** new players at most at this time, so that we don't end up with more new people than we can properly give our attention, help, and time to as they settle into the game and make friends. :)

More "de-aged Taka and T7 end up in the Warring Clans Era as Founders' wards" AU

“That’s a thing?” you ask. The answer is yes.

Uh. Kind of. Deaging Team Seven for the sake of tossing them back in time for a Founder to adopt is pretty common, but I’m trash for Taka so this AU started with me brainstorming the asshole team.

I am falling more and more in love with the idea of Tobirama ending up with custody of Team Taka somehow. He’s a science dad, but like. Marginally more ethical than Orochimaru.

Everyone around them is like "This is a terrible idea and it's all going to end horribly" and he's just like "Ah, these are now my children."

I've read so many "Team Seven time-travels and is de-aged, get adopted by the Founders" or "a Founder time-travels forward and adopts Naruto, subsequently picking up the others" and they're good but I now want the same plot with an even more dysfunctional collection of... eldritch mishaps? The AO3 feel of "I want this fic I just read, again, but a step to the left so it feels fresh and new"

I'm considering the tent of tranquility idea (courtesy of @sloaners) and I've come to the decision that Tobirama's... probably going to end up with Several Holes in it, and burns, and cuts, because Karin and Suigetsu never stop fighting, and if they're fighting, they're not paying attention to how soon Juugo's going to lose his grip on control.

"Hm. Tobirama?" "Anija." "Where did you get children?" "They showed up." "One of them looks like an Uchiha." "He does." "Two of them are trying to kill each other." "That's normal." "Are the Uchiha going to accuse us of stealing a clan child?" "Probably." "...Tobirama, did you steal these children?" "No."

(It's not kidnapping if they show up and break into your house first.)

(Also none of them are particularly pressed to ditch the Senju and find their clans. Maybe eventually. Not now.)

They’re assholes but Karin is, even at Supposedly Age Three, babbling at Tobirama about proper lab protocol and chemical reactions and isn’t that just the most adorable thing?

Very few people find Karin as adorable as Tobirama does, because Karin knows more ways to kill a person than most adult shinobi, because most adult shinobi don’t know about things like flesh-eating diseases and specialty poisons from the other side of the continent that can only be refined via chemical processes that won’t exist for another three decades.

Juugo is a sweetheart. Best child. Then he loses his mind but it’s okay, Sasuke is there. Do the Senju trust the clearly-Uchiha child to control the much larger five-year-old? No. But they don’t have any better ideas right now, so.

Tobirama: Hm, we should do something about that. Karin: Here’s a list of ideas and things that have already been tried. Tobirama: Thank you, small child. Where did you get this? Karin: ... Tobirama: Fair enough, let’s see what we can do.

Suigetsu is a little terror because not only is he a Massive Jerk but he also has better control over water than most adults. Mostly because he is water. It’s very hard to find him when he’s avoiding chores.

Karin clings to Mito sometimes because Family! and then Hashirama tries to tease Tobirama about being upset that one of his students/children has ditched him. Hashirama ends up moping in a corner because Tobirama snaps at him, unsurprisingly.

IDK if we have like any canon for Touka beyond skill with genjutsu, but going off of the fanon that she used a naginata, I’m going to say that Suigetsu keeps trying to challenge her to Blade Fights and she’s just like Neat, A Tiny Murder Machine.

Sasuke is very quiet for the most part and Dramatically Broods On Rooftops And In Trees and Hashirama is just like YES YOU REMIND ME OF MY BROTHER AND ALSO MY BEST FRIEND and Sasuke hides.

Sasuke does not need another Naruto, thank you.

Sasuke ends up hanging out with Mito, I think? Like yeah, sure, she’s an Uzumaki, but she’s chill and refined and calm and she has really good tea in stock. Sure he has to learn fuuinjutsu to have an excuse to hang out with her, but that’s fine. It’s interesting. Karin does it too, sometimes.

tbh that probably leaves Hashirama to hang out with Juugo? Juugo isn’t great at Excite but he is great at nature so I feel like Hashirama would be stars-in-eyes about Juugo talking to birds the way Hashirama talks to trees, and Hashirama just gets him a chicken coop like HERE. FRIENDS.

But back to the suspected child theft.

Hashirama is like “That is... clearly an Uchiha. They are going to find out, Tobirama! Someone is going to figure out we have--” “Sasuke, show him your other eye. Yeah, the one you cover.” “...” “Okay, go back to playing.” “...Tobirama.” “Yeah?” “That was a Rinnegan.” “You know those rumors that the only way to get a Rinnegan is to mix the Uchiha and Senju bloodlines?” “It’s true?” “No idea, Sasuke won’t tell me anything about his parents other than their names, and he’s three, but even the chance of it being true means we have an arguable claim.” “...that’s not going to be enough to convince the Uchiha.” “The theory is but one weapon of many in the upcoming battle of wits.” “Tobirama--” “Now if you’ll excuse me, Anija, I need to go make sure Suigetsu doesn’t flood the training grounds again.”

tbh I can’t remember who made the original comment in canon about the Rinnegan being achieved via Senju/Uchiha babies but it’s funny to use here so I’ll pretend it’s a common rumor that nobody actually believes

MEANWHILE WITH THE UCHIHA Madara found and took custody of Team Seven and company, mostly because they’re like... jounin-level despite being less than three feet tall.

It involves a lot of Madara going "I want My New Children to love me!" and being sorely disappointed by half of them. Poor fucker got stuck with Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Kakashi, Yamato, and Obito.

(KakaYamaObito are deaged by the time-travel to 10-13ish. The kids are deaged to 3-4. Everyone has memories to just after the fourth war or so.)

Karin sensed T7 and tagalong pretty much the second they popped out of Kamui, and told Sasuke, but he correctly guessed that Naruto would hunt him down eventually, and said they should enjoy the peace and quiet while they had it.

Sai pulls emotionless creepy smiles in an attempt to freak out Madara but since Madara's whole thing initially was "less children in war," he's... mostly just sad. Izuna wants to know who made his brother cry.

Madara makes a vaguely misogynistic comment that's typical for the period and Sakura just. Breaks his tibia.

Naruto is genuinely trying to treat Madara with the kind of respect a caretaker that Attempts To Care And Do Good By Them deserves, because Naruto is a good egg, but he's... three again. Which means he's a Hellion.

The literal toddlers (Naruto and Sakura are three-ish, Sai is four-ish) are, in fact, toddlers, so nobody really expects them to be able to do anything. Nobody bothers to test them beyond the basics of like. Can walk? Can talk? Can maybe hold knife? Like don’t get me wrong, they’re very competent toddlers, but their hands can barely wrap around a kunai. Their bodies are tiny. Their bones only just stopped being soft!

That said, the “tweens” (re: adults who got deaged but Less) have to get tested for their skills. Kakashi downplays himself to what he imagines a semi-competent eleven-year-old to be capable of. He thinks of, like, Neji maybe? Good, but not suspiciously good.

Obito enters an intangible state and refuses to participate. He has a Mangekyo. His body is half-Zetsu. Stop bothering him. He doesn’t want to do anything. They assign him babysitting duty for Team Seven since he can obviously defend pretty well, and Kakashi vouches for his abilities as a fighter.

Yamato decides to try to be just a little worse than Kakashi but at one point he panics and does Mokuton on instinct and now the entire Uchiha compound is screeching because did they just steal a Main Family Senju kid by accident?

Yamato: Should I tell them I was a science experiment? Kakashi: No.

Pranks galore! None of the other time-travelers even try to stop Naruto, except maybe Yamato.

Obito at the Uchiha compound is mostly "I don't want to participate" and then just uses Kamui to be intangible until people leave him alone. If it's not another time-traveler or Madara, he's not interested. He doesn't even care that much about Sai or Yamato, actually, so if it's not an original T7 member, he doesn't care, and if it's Madara, he's just here to make things Difficult.

The Kyuubi wanders up to the Uchiha compound one day and everyone's preparing for a battle, even Madara isn't confident that he can-- [BANG] "KURAMA!" [delighted squealing]

Naruto now has a pet. The entire clan is terrified. Kurama pokes his nose at Naruto's stomach and disappears into the memory of a seal.

Madara, frantically writing a letter to Hashirama "What do I do if my toddler is possessed?!?"

Hashirama: You have a toddler?!?!?! OMG you should organize playdates with Tobirama's kids! Madara: I'M GOING TO QUESTION THAT LATER, PLEASE HELP WITH THE POSSESSION THING

Kurama hunts down Naruto, and the Jinchuuriki situation is very much in the realm of "Dis Mine" Also a bit of "If I'm in the brat, there's at least one Mangekyo user in hearing distance who can and will risk his life to prevent brainwashing. (Kakashi. It’s Kakashi.)

Naruto: Kurama's one of my best friends! Every time traveler: Yeah, that tracks. Madara: [teakettle screeching]

Per @firebirdeternal: I'm just loving the visual of Giant Nightmare Terror Kurama kneeling down and pressing his nose to Naruto's Smol Chubby Toddler self and closing his eyes while Naruto pets him and giggles and every single battle-ready Uchiha is just. "wat"

Everybody else: Cool so Madara adopted a witch Uchiha Elders: We need to be careful of this horrible creature The younger generation of Uchiha: Okay that was weirdly serene and adorable and frankly the brat is really likeable when he's not being adhd as hell I think this is actually pretty dope.

Madara really wants to be a Good Dad but he has no idea how he ended up being "a dad" in the first place. He just! He cares a lot about this random assortment of kids! Some of them are from prominent clans and there should be search parties for the Senju kid with the Mokuton, or the Hatake brat, or the Uzumaki that doesn't look Uzumaki but definitely feels Uzumaki.... and SURE the only Uchiha of the bunch is a stranger who hates him for no reason Madara can come up with, but! He wants to be a good authority figure!

At least the Uzumaki appreciates that he's trying.

Seriously, though, there are clan kids and nobody’s looking for them, what’s up with that?

Kakashi still has a prize copy of Icha Icha and nobody in the Uchiha compound does a thorough check of his reading material until like three months in.

He is blamed for Naruto developing the Oiroke, because where ELSE would a toddler get such ideas? (Yamato and Obito both tell him he brought this on himself.)

Naruto waits until a Big Important Meeting lets out, something about tithes or a merchant contract, and just pulls a Harem no Jutsu in front of the entire group of Elders And Main Family. First he does a Mass Shadow Clone, which makes everyone turn on Sharingan because Fancy New Techniques to steal! Sure, they were late on the shadow clones, but the kid is clearly gearing up for something! The something is Oiroke.

Anime Nosebleeds everywhere. Most of the elders were hit. Izuna was hit. Madara is not bleeding from the nose, but he is very upset about having semi-accidentally sharingan-memorized his weird adoptee’s Sexy Older Female Alter Ego. There is yelling.

Naruto’s like “Oh, I missed some!” and decides to try again with Reverse Harem no Jutsu because there are old ladies among the Elders, and maybe some straight women representing a guild, and maybe some gay guys he missed! Madara is still not bleeding. (He’s very demi and tbh Naruto only would have succeeded if he’d tried to use Hashirama’s face. Naruto does not know this. He just figures Madara is ace like Sasuke and that no variant is going to work.)

Izuna gets another nosebleed and is just like “Well, this is not how I planned on coming out as bi, but--” “Izuna, I literally do not care about you being bi as long as one of us has an heir at some point, I’m more upset about the fact that my child has been corrupted!”

Back in the Senju compound, there is... a lot of screaming, honestly, but every time Karin and Suigetsu start trying to kill each other again, Tobirama just shrugs and tells them not to break anything.

Very easy-going caretaker, really. He's got some very deadly toddlers in hand, but they're still just toddlers.

Sasuke: Yeah, I might want to go see my clan at some point. Suigetsu: Yeah, I might want to go see my clan at some point. Karin, clinging to Mito: Yeah, I want to go see my clan at some point. Juugo: Please never, ever take me to my clan. Ever. Please. I'll stay with Sasuke, thank you.

Naruto breaks out of the Uchiha compound the first time he enters Sage Mode, several months in (it took a while to get the privacy) because he feels Sasuke and lbr if Naruto knows where Sasuke is, nothing will stop him.

The Uchiha clansmen cannot catch the errant toddler. They fail to inform Madara until Naruto is already in Senju territory because nobody wanted to admit the toddler outmaneuvered them.

Naruto wasn’t sure how to get into the Senju Compound safely so he just goes full Kyuubi, bounds over the wall screaming SASUKEEEEE at the top of his lungs, and then shrinks back down to Tiny Brat size so he could hug his Bestest Friend Ever and cling like a limpet while Sasuke just sighs and stares at the wall.

Sakura ran after him.

Sai painted a bird and Yamato dragged Kakashi onto it to chase Naruto, because Kakashi is at a point of zen regarding Naruto's bullshit and fully trusts the kid to not die.

Obito refuses to look up from whatever he's doing and asks people why they think he cares.

“We told you to look after the toddlers!” “Why would you do that? Seems like poor planning on your part.”

Disappears when nobody's looking. Waits until the Ruckus at the Senju compound (where T7 has crashed in to tackle-hug Sasuke and Madara followed in and proceeded to get shouty, and nobody's dead or battling because they're too confused and also it's a comedy) has started to calm down, and then teleports in and demonstrates Mokuton just to make Madara's life harder when the Senju Elders start demanding answers.

His energy is very "I am here to make Madara's life harder" and Madara still doesn't know what he did wrong.

Madara: That brat has a Sharingan! Tobirama: Well THAT one has Mokuton! Obito: Yamato has it too. [angry teakettle noises]

Madara's first response to seeing Sasuke is to turn to Izuna and point aggressively at the toddler while making a tea-kettle noise "He looks just like you!" "He's four, he barely looks like anything!"

Naruto, tugging at Madara's hakama: You need to make a village with Hashirama so I can see Sasuke more often, cuz I don't wanna ditch you guys, but I gotta see Sasuke! He's my best friend! Madara, who is aware that he could fight this child but really doesn't want to, and also knows that a tantrum thrown by Naruto or Sasuke is capable of leveling mountains: Right, yes, we'll get right on that.

tbh Madara wants the village anyway but "The bijuu-whisperer said he wants it to happen" is a great way to push things forward.

why your op sakura au’s are valid (imo)

One of the best and most creative things I’ve seen come from the Sakura fandom are the power up/background exploration AU’s that take Sakura--the heroine who was woefully underdeveloped compared to Sasuke and Naruto--and give her the limelight that Sasuke and Naruto’s locus took from her extremely early on. Two of the best (and likely, the most popular) AU’s I’ve seen are the Slug Sage and Mokuton AU’s, oftentimes blended together. As for background, sometimes people popularly make her a secret Senju, or a distantly related Uzumaki. Or, she’s given other things altogether.

Frankly speaking, whatever twist she’s given, it’s awesome to see. I love seeing what people come up with, no matter the ship or not, time period--you name it.

Thing is, these AU’s cause a lot of mixed opinions. The stans often say she deserved better, that she was too underdeveloped. Anti’s say that people who do are self-inserting and want to make her into a Mary Sue.

Here’s my controversial opinion: have you considered the possibility that there’s actually a canon precedent to it? Yes, I have the balls to say this.

Read on and I’ll show you what I mean.

Inheriting the strength of a Sannin, as part of the Neo-Sannin

One motif that many people can agree with is the fact that, very early on, the notion of Team 7 being the next Sannin after the originals were foreshadowed for years. That they were would not only inherit their abilities, but surpass them.

By the war itself, we see this realized when Hiruzen--the Sannin’s original team captain and teacher--affirmed that Team 7 had indeed fulfilled this expectation and became the next generation of Sannin, sometimes known as the Neo-Sannin by the fandom.

Something constantly affirmed by canon in regards to Sakura specifically (as emphasized in this wonderful meta by @midgetmeredith) is the fact that she did indeed come to surpass Tsunade in both strength and medical ability, something constantly reinforced by those who both admire, knew, and were even contested against Konoha’s Slug Princess and also by Tsunade herself.

Chapter 246, as said by Kakashi.

Chapter 279, by Chiyo, Tsunade’s rival during the Second Shinobi World War; Tsunade was the only person who could foil Chiyo’s poisoning prowess.

Chapter 632, emphasizing Sakura surpassing and inheriting Tsunade’s power.

Chapter 634, by Shizune, Tsunade’s apprentice who personally learned from Tsunade just as Sakura had.

My point being, canon absolutely solidifies the fact of Sakura surpassing and inheriting Tsunade’s power, although this a dead horse that has been beaten and reaffirmed and not the point of this meta.

What does it mean to be a Sannin?

As stated in the Second Databook, to be a Sannin means that each individual Sannin are of equal ability and might to each other.

“Explosive spirit and unique power!

Jiraya’s manly fighting valor, Orochimaru’s individual talents, Tsunade’s monster power and supreme knowledge of medical jutsus. During fights, their skills would increase thrice fold and create stories of great battlefield deeds. Especially, places of battle where the three fought together were their own stage. Stories of their battlefield deeds have evolved into legends. As there will no longer be days when the three will fight alongside each other, the flower of their legend is the more dazzling.

Jiraiya: Serious but deadly eyes! Are the only ones who can fight against the Sannin the Sannin themselves?

Tsunade: Her power is like that of a god of war.

Orochimaru: Like a reflection of his way of life, his fighting skills are cruel to the extreme.”

As stated here, to be a Sannin means to be equal in power, that no individual Sannin is more powerful than each other. More than that, only a Sannin can hope to take down a Sannin.

As stated by Ebisu shortly after Jiraiya’s return in the aftermath of the Konoha Crush.

As said by Jiraiya during the Three-Way Deadlock in part 1.

“A lonely blossom that flowered in Konoha! Tsunade is the strongest Kunoichi in Konoha history, every bit a match for Jiraiya and Orochimaru. Her whereabouts – indeed, her survival – are currently a mystery, but her name blossoms in the noble inclusion of the shinobi.”

In the interlude between their deaths and revival, Naruto and Sasuke learn that they’re something known as “transmigrants” from Hagoromo, specifically of his sons...

And as we continue to learn, not only are they the reincarnations of Asura and Indra, but they inherited their immense chakra as well.

Now, let’s recap what makes Naruto and Sasuke so special in the first place, up to this point:

Naruto: The son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, sealed with the Kyuubi, not only did he inherit unique and potent chakra from his mother--who’d been originally brought to Konoha because of it and her life force--but was also the jinchuuriki before him of Kurama, the most powerful bijuu, the Kyuubi. Minato was known as the “Yellow Flash” as the previous Hokage was the prodigiously known for his terrifying ability on the battlefield. Also Jiraiya’s student who surpassed him. Naruto is also Asura’s reincarnation, and as we see above, inherited his massive chakra and life force. And, he possesses the Six Paths Yang Power, as well as 3 different sage modes (Toad, Tailed Beast, and Six Paths).

Sasuke: The son of Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha, the then clan head of the Uchiha, Sasuke is often likened to Madara himself, and confirmed as such by Tobirama and Kurama, the latter stating that Sasuke’s chakra feels identical to Madara. Inheritor of Orochimaru’s power and Indra’s chakra, possessor of the Sharingan, Eternal Mengekyou Sharingan, Rinnegan and all the powers associated with it. He also was the recipient of the Six Paths Yin Pwer.

Really, this list could go on with how many powers Naruto and Sasuke gain outside of what they inherit from the Sannin. Sakura? Yeah, not so much.

Essentially, we go from this...

To clarify, Sasuke and Naruto being the focus of the story isn’t a bad thing. Their bond is integral to the story; however, we were promised the Neo-Sannin. Who, as I stated before, were supposed to be equal in strength and might like their predecessors whose motif was integral to the story long before the struggle between reincarnated brothers was even an unwritten idea in Kishimoto’s mind.

Basically? If you’re going to promise us this...

...don’t reduce it to this and keep it that way.

Give us the Neo-Sannin we were promised that could stand on equal ground together, no matter how much time had passed or how far apart fate and other circumstances drove them apart.

Closing Thoughts

Basically, the entire point I’m trying to prove here is that we were promised the Neo-Sannin, but were denied it in the same, final arc. While Sasuke and Naruto got godly power ups, and continue to get (anyone catch Naruto’s new Baryon Mode in the Boruto manga that’s even more powerful than what he’s gotten from Hagoromo?), Sakura stays much the same. And while she’s comfortably at the top of her game by Boruto, as the world’s strongest med-nin and Tsunade’s successor, she’s greatly outclassed by Sasuke and Naruto. Anti and stan alike agree with this, so yeah.

This why Sakura deserves AU’s where she becomes as powerful as Naruto and Sasuke. Slug Sage, Mokuton, secret Senju--you name it.

Canon promised us the Neo-Sannin, which we didn’t get. So, why can’t we have it in fanon at the very least?

well, i sorted out the timeline by generation.

the ōtsutsuki (kaguya, the twins, indra & asura) + the tailed beasts

warring states—pre-founders (tajima, butsuma, etc.)

founders

the 'boomers' (hiruzen, danzō, kagami, etc.) [i couldn't think of another name for them, lmao]

the sannin's gen. (dan, dai, sakumo, etc.)

middle-aged adults (minato, shikaku, etc.)

kakashi's gen.

the main cast

for your first question, well, i didn't really change much of the plot, only the more major points. these include: the uchiha massacre, the senju’s extinction, and uzushio's downfall.

regarding the uchiha’s, i simply scripted the whole isolation and slaughter thing out entirely. some of them’ll still be uptight assholes, as is usually portrayed in both canon and fanon, but they’ll live. I’m not the biggest sasuke fan, nor do i dislike him too much, but i do think he didn’t deserve the torturous shit he received.

as for the senju—I’m definitely not happy with how their clan just...i don’t know, disappeared? what happened to them after hashirama passed away? surely, tsunade couldn’t be the only one left. I’m not buying that. i also scripted that itama survived; i mentioned it in a previous post that i managed to save him at some point, preventing his death, and goes on to awaken the mokuton. what he does with his adult years is entirely up to him, and I’ve yet to see what happened to him in my DR.

on the matter of uzushiogakure; i didn’t script out the attack on the village, but i did put that konoha was able to send reinforcements just a little bit ealier than what happened in canon, and that more citizens escaped. most are probably still scattered across the elemental nations, but some decided to seek sanctuary in konoha. it’s not just limited to the uzumaki clan, either.

regarding your second question, well, go for it. I’ve already mentioned my take on it in my DR earlier. the kyūbi attack does still happen, but the dislike towards their clan isn’t as bad. i plan to have itama live at least until after the attack, and with what i scripted for him, he should be able to do some major damage control. I’m genuinely curious on what could’ve happened if itachi didn’t go nukenin, and if shisui survived.

those are the only things that i really changed. obito’s still tobi, and naruto’s most likely staying with someone from uzushio. i think itama would petition to up the standards of the academy, though.

see—the reason why i sound uncertain on some points is that my DR self, kyō, isn’t actually present for most of the plot.

initially, i wanted to incorporate some ATLA details, as i had been too lazy to actually make another DR script for that. so i tried compensating by utilising elemental bending in naruto instead. that, and i scripted pulling off an aang/steve rogers; meaning i would’ve been trapped in ice for decades, until someone found me. I’m not going to elaborate much on that, as I’m still kind of uncomfortable with sharing why i scripted it in, but it does have something to do with zetsu. my DR self is around the same age as the founders, exactly the same as itama’s. i am/kyō is found during the time when the uchiha massacre should’ve happened. one thing about my DR self is that I’m presumed dead before konoha was even founded, so i really shouldn’t have a reason to know about what happens after i ‘die’.

[i am very aware that having that in my script sounds weird, but i really want to know what it’s like to be encased in ice for almost 100 years].

i just changed some major plot points that i wanted, and left other details to fit according to the mercy of my subconscious. i mean, it’s the one that’s going to decide the things i desire, and i just wish to be surprised, is all. i also plan on having no romantic entanglements in this DR, mostly just adventure. this is one of my what-if’s DR’s, and i have another one dedicated for romance.

The relatability he has, when he's an adult. I too enjoy acting like a weirdo in public so people will leave me alone.

Though I think I prefer him when he's a kid at his snarkiest, pettiest, haughtiest, most insufferable asshole makes-Obito-cry-and-only-apologizes-for-it-because-Minato-sternly-asks-him-to self. I think he's really funny for it, even if I feel bad for him thinking of the 60% of why he's actually like that.

least favorite thing about them

His resignation to let things be what they are, and to not do anything about it himself. I find it really sad when I think about it when thinking of just Kakashi himself, as a character, and exactly why he'd act that way, and then I find it really frustrating when I think about how it all just made him the poster child for Konoha Nationalism, lol.

And every popular fanon interpretation of any ship he's in that has him be this dominant, suave and/or agressive seme. Don't like it when he's overly "uke-ish" either, just... find a balance. I just can't deal with anything that looks too fetish-y and every Kakashi pairing is chock full of that.

random headcanon

I think he randomly pops up at all of his students' windows to give them something they might need. Naruto with a basket of vegetables as we've seen, Sasuke with a personal recipe of his that's both nutritious and quick to make to save time in his day so he can spend more time training than preparing to eat, Sakura with a book he'd snagged from the library that she'd mentioned she'd wanted but is always in high demand so she never gets the chance to borrow it at the right time because of missions, etc.

unpopular opinion

I don't think he's a good teacher, but how bad he is is a bit exaggerated. He treats Team 7 less like children than he treated someone like Inari because ninja are soldiers, and proper ones is what he's training Team 7 to be, even if he doesn't want them to go the whole way and stick to the rules to the letter. It's how the other teachers would have treated their students as well, they just had a lot less outside interference.

That said, he could have dedicated more time to Sakura and been significantly more tactful in dealing with Sasuke, as well as not projected so much on him bc it worked at times but in others.... yeah. And also... could've launched an investigation on the murder of his student's once he actually had the power to do so, lol.

kakashi & anbu headcanons.

kakashi and his mask.

kakashi’s mask was fox rather than dog / hound ( as fanon so likes to use ). after minato and kushina’s deaths to the kyūbi, kakashi wanted to destroy his mask ( because it had been a fox, the fox, who had killed his sensei and his older sister figure ), and he almost asked the sandaime for a mask change, but he kept it because he thought he deserved the irony of such a symbol. when he left anbu through sandaime’s command to become a jōnin instructor, rather than turn in his mask like he’s supposed to do, he just burned it, and no one really said a word.

kakashi being a rockstar in the ANBU world.

while often thought of as lazy and sometimes even washed out in the general ninja ranks ( due to his “inability” to turn in mission reports on time, his continual lateness, and his attitude ), particularly in those who didn’t know him personally or weren’t a part of his “generation”, kakashi was a rockstar in the ANBU world.

everyone had heard of fox ( kakashi’s mask & call-sign ), and he was mostly respected within the ANBU ranks ( if they weren’t a part of root ) or, well, the ANBU ranks at least grudgingly accepted his strength even if they thought he was cold-hearted and/or a friend killer.

most of the newbies thought he was a legend when they joined up. it’s due to his rockstar status that he’s usually given at least as much respect as the ANBU commander, even if, again, people didn’t like him based on his reputation. kakashi also had the same general security clearance as the ANBU commander, so much wasn’t kept secret from kakashi.

( the truth of the uchiha massacre had been kept secret from kakashi – in fact, no one outside of the third, danzō, the advisors, and itachi knew, and kakashi had been too imbedded with self-doubt and loathing to have seen underneath the underneath ).

once kakashi had about five years under his belt – two as a regular ANBU member and three as an ANBU captain – many members begrudgingly saw that their initial impression of kakashi as someone who was cold-hearted and/or a friend killer was wrong, but by the time he hit his tenth year, at least 98% of the non-root ANBU had that kind of star-struck quality over kakashi. ( it probably also helped that most of the ANBU that had known kakashi since he started ANBU and was almost as cold-hearted as the rumours suggested were dead lMAO ).

even when he left ANBU, he was essentially regarded as the second ANBU commander and most non-root ANBU followed his orders if he ordered them. it also didn’t help that kakashi still stuck around to help train them, even if he was technically not allowed back into training grounds and barracks and stuff.

during the time-skip between part one and part two, tsunade essentially had kakashi re-instated into ANBU and running ANBU s-rank missions again ( mainly because he was one of the few who still could at the time ). some of them had been unfortunately solo, but others he had a new team pierced together ( although, kakashi did ask for tenzō back on his squad – yūgao was an ANBU squad leader, and, thus, couldn’t abandon her own team to rejoin kakashi’s ).

going back to running s-rank missions after a few years of b to a rank missions helped him stretch out his abilities again. unlike before, however, kakashi was better at relying on his support system, so his second time as ANBU wasn’t as bad as his first time.

he also didn’t only take missions as ANBU – sometimes, a mission needed the name “hatake kakashi” to work out better or as a better show of strength.

( but, in all honesty, he doesn’t think he’s ever really retired from ANBU anyway, even if the sandaime tried otherwise. the ANBU he talked to still considered him one of their commanders, and it wasn’t like he didn’t help train the newbies at times, even when he was officially “retired” ).

even though kakashi isn’t technically in anbu anymore ( and even though procedure is that anbu remove their anbu tattoos on their shoulders ), kakashi never got his anbu tattoo removed. it was never asked that of kakashi – partially in that the sandaime ( and then later tsunade ) knew that they would ask kakashi to put on the mask again for certain missions ( since he was only “technically” retired from anbu just to teach team seven ) and partially because they all knew kakashi was too lazy to get it removed LOL.

**Hidden In The Fanon

A Naruto Roleplaying Group with a Rotating AU Setting**

The idea of this RP is just to reset into a new AU every once in a while and explore the many versions of our characters meeting and bonding anew in every universe.

Mods will try to set up an overarching mini plot or an event of some kind being built up to/going on durring each AU (like a holiday or a school dance) and other plots planned by players can take place intersecting with or around this 'mod plot' as players like.

We aren't an adult-content focused server, but we do allow adult topics and roleplay so we ask that all applying members be 18+.
