Goodbyes.
Spencer had many of them throughout his life, starting with his father. All of his life is laced with them. His mother, then long time nothing despite minor friendships. Then Gideon happened. It broke his heart. For a long time, he reduced himself to reading the letter again and again until he could understand that this goodbye was necessary.
It continued with Maeve. This time he was broken on the inside, and only his colleagues and time managed to pick the pieces back up and heal him. However, it left a scar on him.
Alex left after he got shot, and for some time, he blamed himself, even though he knew it wasn’t his fault at all.
Then Derek. His leave Spencer could understand. He saw it with Hotch and Jake. He wouldn’t want that for Derek and his son.
They all left and confided in Spencer. Each of them left something for him. Though there were more. Elle, Kate, Emily.
That’s why he’s vibrating with fear right about now, standing in the middle of the hall in an airport for the worst goodbye this life could come up with.
“Spence, what’s with this face? It’s only for a few weeks.” All he can do is shake his head, somehow holding his tears at bay-. He feels miserable. After Maeve, he never thought he could feel worse, but this does feel much worse. “Sweetness, you leave all the time and come back. Why is this so hard for you?” Again, he shakes his head. He has no idea. He knows shell only begone for two, three weeks max. but it just feels different. Like a part of him is leaving, ripping a hole in his heart that will yearn to be filled once again. “Baby.” She steps closer, cupping his cheek as her flight gets called out for boarding. “I’m coming back.”
“You can’t promise.”
“Of course, I can, Spence.”
“No.” He shakes his head again. He knows the statistic for accidents, plane crashes, kidnappings, and such things. To be fair, anything of this happening to her is highly unlikely, but he sees it every day on his job. So, why should it be different with her? “Okay, I might be unable to promise, but what I can promise is that I’ll try everything in my power to come back to you as soon as possible. Yeah?” Her eyes search his for an answer, but Spencer’s unable to give her one. All he feels is sadness and pain. “I don’t want you to go.” His voice is small, almost childish even. She sighs in front of him, a tint of annoyance accompanying it. “Spence, we had it before. I need to go to this conference.”
“I know.”
“You still can come down there for a weekend.” Again, his head shakes a soft no. “Would just miss you more when I need to leave you.” Overhead the call for barding gets repeated, and she knows she has to leave in the next five minutes not to be this one passenger everyone needs to wait for. “Baby…” her hand strokes his cheek as tears finally slide down. “Don’t make it harder for me too.” She can feel her eyes water, too, but she blinks a few times to get rid of the threatening tears. “Come on one, pretty boy. Give her the kiss goodbye.” Derek approaches behind Spencer, clapping his back softly. She called him for support after she noticed that Spencer really having a difficult time with her leaving. She gives him a grateful smile before directing her gaze back at Spencer and pressing a soft kiss to the corner of his mouth. “I’ll call you when I’ll land, yeah?”
“And before bed and in the morning and…”
“I know, Spence. I’ll call at lunch too. Don’t you worry too much, yeah? It’s just a conference and some workshops. I’ll be fine. We’ll see us soon again, and it will feel like I never went away at all.” She gives him a smile, but Spencer feels differently. He misses her already, and he knows the next few weeks, he will feel even worse. But he nods, knowing it’s inevitable now. So, he leans forward to connect their forehead for a few seconds before he pulls her in for a deep, longing kiss. He tries to transmit his love and everything beyond through it, hoping that she knows exactly what he’s unable to say.
But his girl, his beautiful, wonderful star of a woman, smiles at him as if she understands exactly. For a last time, she presses a quick kiss against his lips with a whisper of goodbye and then… Then she’s gone. All Spencer sees is her flowing hair vanishing in the masses of people.
Already, he’s missing his better half.

I Would Do Anything You Asked Me To

This was supposed to be finished for the #vicficwriterchallenge earlier this month but life got in the way. I liked the prompt and lil fic so I figured I’d post it anyway. This is my first fic in the fandom too x

Category: Sort of smut, sort of fluff, and a lil teensy bit angsty
Warnings/Includes: smut, sexual language, voyerism, masturbation (both male and female), please let me know if there’s anything I’ve missed

There’s been tension for a while.
It’s been building steadily and slowly over the past few years. Spencer’s pretty sure it’s all been coming from his end though. Why would Y/N even give him a passing thought in a romantic context, she’d been his best friend from the jump, taken to him the second she’d joined the team. They had the same embarrassing sense of humor, the opposite taste in movies, and nothing but love for each other. But it was strictly platonic. So platonic that they’d bunk together in hotel rooms for most cases, staying up reading in side by side twin beds, or talking nonsense a little too late into the night given they always seemed to have such a long day ahead.
But lately things felt different.
One evening in Kansas Spencer thinks he can hear a faint moaning coming from the bathroom while he’s skimming through a hardback. The walls in this place are bordering on paper thin but he thinks that it sounds like moaning, muffled just a little by the hum of the shower running. When Y/N comes out, steam billowing behind her as she gently dries her hair with a towel, he thinks she looks flushed. He thinks it must just be from the hot air and doesn’t linger on the thought for long.
That is until the following week in Louisiana. The walls are a little thicker but the shower’s definitely not running this time. It’s been shut off for a few minutes when he hears the same breathy moans. And it’s unmistakable when he hears his own name tumbling from her lips, the way she always says it, just, different. When she emerges this time he’s staring her down, without really meaning to.
“Did you call me?” he asks, puzzled. She shakes her head, pulling a confused expression, but the tips of her ears start to glow pink, matching the strap of her bra that he can see falling down her shoulder. God he wishes he hadn’t noticed that.
The next time it happens is markedly different.
It’s in Texas, and Spencer gets to the room late. Not by a lot, but longer than he’d like. One of the officers at the station had some follow up questions that kept him lagging behind the rest of the team. All he wanted in the world was to collapse straight into bed and try and string together at least a few hours of sleep. It’s late so he opens the heavy fire door as gently as he can, pushing it closed behind him softly. He doesn’t want to wake Y/N but it becomes increasingly apparent that there’s no fear of that.
He thinks he can hear her voice, calling out for him, but when he rounds the corner that’s not the case. Y/N is splayed across her bed, legs spread with her hand buried between them. Sweet but filthy moans are falling from her softly parted lips, her eyes screwed shut with intensity as her fingers worked inside of her.
“Fuck” Spencer whispers, it’s quiet and involuntary but he drops his bag on the ground without thinking about it and it lands with a thud. He ducks back around the corner before her eyes open but she stops immediately.
“Spence?” she calls out into what looks like an empty room, “Spence wait!”
“I’m just—” he swallows hard, “I’m gonna shower before I hit the hay” he’s aiming for nonchalance but it comes out somewhere between childish and awkward. If she responds he doesn’t hear, he’s locked the bathroom door behind him in a hurry, slumping against it.
Spencer wants to forget about it, or maybe he doesn’t. He’s carding through the memories as he lets the water trickle over him. Hearing his name echoing around his head just the way she’d moaned it twice now. His hand was braced against the cold tile while he stroked along his hard length, the images of Y/N spread completely across the bed not 2 feet from him with her fingers deep inside herself. Her head falling back against the pillows in ecstasy. He can’t help but think about what she’d been imagining herself.
It doesn’t happen for a while after that.
They hardly speak really, and thankfully for Spencer there’s no need to double up on rooms for a little while. Now he’s just got to get a hold of himself while he’s around her on cases, or in the office. Which wouldn’t be so bad if she didn’t sit at the desk opposite him, or the seat next to him on flights. Or if her hair wasn’t so beautiful in the way it cascaded over her shoulders, or worse still, when she gathered it all to one side, exposing the planes of her neck to him while she worked.
Spencer was managing to keep his urges, and his feelings, mostly at bay. But really who was he kidding, they were bubbling just below the surface and they had been for far longer than this had been going on.
In Florida 3 weeks later they’re stuck sharing a room again. Hotch didn’t really give either of them an option this time anyway, why would he presume anything had changed between the two of them. And really it hadn’t, it had just become, awkward?
This became painstakingly clear as they walked into the room together.
“I’ll take this one?” Spencer half-asked as he dropped his go-bag by the edge of the bed nearest the window.
“I’m easy” Y/N responded, walking to the other and sitting on the edge of it, hands resting in her lap. “Spence?” she ventured, it tumbled out of her like a whisper, he almost missed it, so he pretended he did.
“Mind if I grab the first shower?” he asked, without waiting to hear for an answer he made his way into the bathroom. He washed the day off his skin, scrubbing against it harshly with the sad hotel soap out of frustration more than anything else. Y/N had been his best friend for so long, and these complicated feelings didn’t negate that. This friendship was invaluable to him but he’d be kidding himself if he promised he could shake these feelings for good. Everyone he’d ever dated, or thought about dating, no matter how flawless, just wasn’t her. They didn’t have her laugh, her smile, her kindness, the fire inside that she possessed was missing in everyone but her.
Every time she’d even made an allusion to a date with someone his stomach would sink. He wasn’t proud of that but it was true. His heart would ache at the thought of some other man getting to be with her, in any way at all. Of course Spencer and Y/N would go out for dinner, or a movie, or whatever on their days off, but once he was in the privacy of his own room later that evening he’d imagine where they could’ve ended up.
In his bed together, holding each other close. Maybe he’d place soft, sweet kisses all over her cheeks, peppering her neck and jaw with them first thing in the morning. Other times he’d think about how he’d grab her and pull her by her hips, letting his fingernails dig into them as he fucked her from behind, shaking the more precarious items off his desk.
This time however he was thinking about her in that damn hotel room again. Getting herself off and whimpering his name, like maybe she hoped that it wasn’t her fingers but him buried inside her.
When he finally left the bathroom he’d almost hoped she’d be asleep. And prayed that she wouldn’t care enough to ask him whatever question he’d dodged before heading in there. But Spencer had never been a lucky guy.
“Spence?” she called out again, soft and timid. Y/N was in a nightdress, it was small and satin and baby pink, and his shoulders tensed at the sight. He was distracted enough to forget that she was perched, legs crossed, in the centre of his bed.
“Y/N, I’m by the window” he had to force the words out of his ever so slowly closing throat.
“Spence!” she called yet again, harsher this time, trying to get his full attention.
“What!?” it came out a little louder, a little meaner than he meant it to. It was just misplaced frustration. Frustration with himself, with the whole situation, but never at her.
“Sorry Y/N” he breathed, letting his eyes drift closed in a effort to calm his nerves.
“It’s alright” she soothes, bringing herself up to her knees so she can move closer to the edge of the bed. Closer to Spencer. She’s still shorter than him even perched up like this, and he's trying desperately to ignore the way he can just about see down her nightdress with the way she’s kneeling.
“Spencer.” she states his name calmly, “If I had—” she cuts herself off, taking in an unsteady breath. It doesn’t look like it helps all that much. She reaches out to him but pulls back before she can really make any physical contact. Torn.
“Fuck it” she huffs and looks up to make direct eye contact with him now, unwavering, and he’s got no idea where her bravery’s come from all of a sudden, and really neither does she. “That night in Houston” she breaks for just a second, “If I’d asked you to stay, would you?” her eyes remain fixed on his, waiting for a reply that’s stuck deep in his throat.
“Y/N, I—” he shakes his head, “What are you asking?”
Her head falls to the side in a universal gesture for ‘are you kidding me?’
“You know what I’m asking Spencer, I was calling for you, trying” her eyes screw shut as she pinches the bridge of her nose “would you have stayed?” she looks up at him now, her eyes full of uncertainty and what he thinks could be sadness.
Spencer’d been a coward. He knew that already. He’d been a coward from the second he’d noticed these feelings for Y/N, scared that they’d damage their bond, or that she wouldn’t reciprocate. Because really he had no reason to believe anyone would return those sorts of feeling for him, least of all the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen. He could scarcely let himself imagine scenarios where she liked him, like that. But here she was, in the flesh, in a fucking satin nightgown offering herself to him. And apparently not for the first time.
Spencer knew he’d been silent for too long, and honestly he didn’t have a verbal answer he could give that wouldn’t be an entire fucking poem. So instead he grabbed her, a strong hand pulling her face to his to engulf her lips in a kiss. Rougher than he probably mean it, his teeth almost clashing with her own as their mouths opened for one another, tongues delving in deeper exploring and working against the other. He could feel the tiny moans she let out vibrating against his lips only encouraging him to prolong the kiss for as long as he could, breathing deeply thorough his nose in the hopes that maybe he’d never have to remove his lips from hers ever again. But Y/N knew better, pulling away gently to look straight into Spencer’s glimmering eyes.
“Would you?” she asks once again, her pout is flushed and almost swollen and he catalogues that image so that he can remember it forever.
“I would do anything you asked me to” It escapes him without thought, and it’s true. And it’s the best he can do right now without pouring out his entire heart and soul in this stupid hotel room.

The feeling is mutual | | Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader | |
Tumblr media
A little fluffy 2 part series that I wanted to drop real quick to get back into the swing of things, I hope you like it! It feels good to be back but I’m terrified. I feel like a little deer in headlights! Feedback is most welcomed ALWAYS. ✨
PART 2
Summary; You’re both profilers, analysing behaviour and making connections. So why is it so hard to read each other?
Includes; mentions of sex, mentions of being on period, mention of serial killer unsub (if you know what movie i’m referencing then I love you), fluff! ✨
Word count; 1.2k ✨ (second part will be longer! this is just a little part 1 to see what y’all think)
“I literally want nothing more right now Spencer but I can’t.”
Stood in the break room at work, you mixed the sugar into your coffee and sighed at the very eager colleague beside you.
For a few months now, you’d been having a physical relationship with Spencer. No deeper or hidden feelings had been discussed, you guys were friends who had needs, and those needs could be met by each other. Nothing but trust, friendship and safety with a side order of good sex.
However, Spencer was usually good at keeping things subtle; he’d at least wait until you were both off and out of work to pursue things further. But not today. He’d clearly woken up with a motive. Which was apparently to be inside you by the end of your shift.
Unfortunately for him it was that oh-so-wonderful time of the month and as much as you debated it in your head the second you saw the dark desperation in his eyes, you were not in the mood for all the effort of cleaning up after. Especially not at work.
“You called ME last night, Y/N. It took all of my self control to NOT to get in my car and take you until sunrise.” Spencer grew closer to you, his attitude not remotely intimidating because of the whiny tone in his voice. He was right, you’d been particularly needy the night before; calling him up and breathily whispering down the phone in an attempt to get him to come over. But you both had an early start so you eventually changed your mind.
You just giggled and sipped your drink, misjudging how hot it would be.
“Ah you - stupid fu-‘ Immediately grabbing a bottle of water from a mini fridge below the counter, you took a gulp to soothe your throat.
“I’m just saying, what’s suddenly changed in 16 hours and 42 minutes that’s so drastic?” Spencer looked down at you, ignoring the entire hot drink charade, but having a genuine concern on his face for something else.
Rolling your eyes and standing up to speak to him properly, you took a hold of your coffee cup once again and attempted your most serious face.
“First off, I’m allowed to change my mind. Secondly, I got my period this morning and - no, before you even attempt to convince me ‘oh it’s fine’ I’m not in the mood. Now get your blood rushing back to the right head because I do believe we’ve got a case.”
***************
The unsub was suspected to be a woman in her mid to late 30’s, using a technique similar to that of Ted Bundy and Aileen Wuornos. So far the team had deduced she would lure the victims with seduction at local bars in the area, pretend to be extremely drunk in order to attract creeps and when they took her home she would kill them.
The plan would be for Derek to go undercover at a bar that all the victims had attended and hopefully find the unsub. But first they all needed rest. They’d been working from 8am, after landing at 7am, and now it was 11pm.
Hotch had agreed everybody needed to recuperate and get together around midday the next day, as he knew the unsub would only be out and preying from late evening.
The hotel you guys were staying at was actually pretty luxurious considering the urgency and location. Hoping to share a room with Tara or Emily so you knew you would get some sleep, you grabbed your bags and headed up to see your roommate.
Keying the card and gaining entry with a jolly beep, you noticed it was still dark. Had you been lucky and scored your own room? Flicking the lights on, you let out a frustrated groan when you saw him sitting against the headboard.
A smug grin stretched across his face before it dropped back into that familiar pursed concern look.
“I didn’t do this to annoy you Y/N, I just wanted to spend more time with you. I can switch with JJ.” Spencer began to shuffle off the bed and you just tutted and put your bag down.
“No, stay. I’m not mad. At least not annoyed mad. I’m frustrated. But not with you. I’m just-“
“Y/N.”
Tiredly dragging your palms down your face, you opened your eyes to finally make eye contact with the poor man who was victim to your hormones.
“I’m sorry. I’m just miserable.” you walked around to the side of the bed where Spencer sat on the edge. His eyes followed you, watching your face in an attempt to profile whatever you were thinking. His hands came up to rest at your sides, thumbs stroking lightly across your hips.
“Do you want me to leave so you can get some rest? You’re tired, I can tell.”
“Don’t profile me Spencer.” you chucked lightly, your own hands coming to rest over his. He smiled softly up at you, waiting for your answer.
“Stay please.” Matching his gentle smile, you looked over at your bag before looking back at him. “I need to shower and then I’ll be right in okay?”
Spencer nodded and leant to reach just beside you, where his bag sat on a chair. You knew he was getting a book out, so that he would distract himself while waiting up for you; the one thing you admired and got excited about was falling asleep next to him.
******************
“Do you always do that? I’ve never noticed it before?” Spencer asked quietly into your ear.
You were cozily tucked into his neck, one hand resting against his chest and the other squished between your bodies. Legs entwined with one another, you were absentmindedly rubbing your foot up and down along his. It was a comfort for you, you mostly did it to yourself when you were sleepy.
“Mhmm.”
“It’s cute. Are you anxious? Or stressed? It’s actually a very common limbic response to anxiety, it releases endorphins so you know, you’re essentially giving yourself a massage.” Spencer rambled onto the top of your head, the vibrations sending shivers down your spine.
“ ‘M not stressed. Not anymore.” you hummed into his neck, snuggling in closer than you thought possible. You could feel his pulse quickening slightly against your cheek, hear him swallowing with nervousness as you readjusted yourself; throwing a leg over his hip and latching onto him like a little koala. “Calm down Spence, I’m just getting comfy.”
“Sleep well Y/N.” He spoke so softly it almost lulled you into sleep. His breathing settled as yours did, the arm he had wrapped around your shoulder holding you tight. His other hand drawing lazy lines up and down your spine as he too adapted a comforting stimulation that was going to send him off too.
Spencer couldn’t help but think about how perfectly you slotted against his body, how much you felt like home. The sharp but sweet scent of your shampoo overloaded his senses and bypassed the oestrogen-filled attitude, the drop in energy and the rise in other types of tension. He would do anything you asked him to. But he was sure you didn’t know that. He was even surer that he wouldn’t tell you. Instead, he would appreciate the seconds, minutes and hours you spent together and let his mind drift off onto what the next day would bring him.

(Spencer Reid x Reader)
The one where Spencer and Reader go undercover as a couple at a fancy restaurant to catch a prolific unsub.
Length: 5k
A/N: enjoy this lil fic while i take a short break from my series :D
masterlist
“Okay, so we’re looking for a guy who targets rich heterosexual couples.” Morgan stated from his seat at the round table. Looking at the photos almost made Y/N sick, she nervously twirled one of her rings around her pointer finger.
“He’s quite violent, too. Removing the men’s fingernails and chopping off the women's’ hair? That’s a pretty specific signature.” Emily spoke, glancing at the file.
“So let me get this straight, this man has killed 7 couples and we’re hearing about this just now?” Rossi questioned with indignance.
“Unfortunately, local PD has found it incredibly difficult to track this unsub down. That’s why we’re being called in.” Hotch replied, without even a twitch to his brow.
“So the guy’s good, how are we gonna get him?” JJ asked, leaning back in her chair.
“We know he frequents the local high-end restaurants because that’s where he picks his couples, he almost always picks victims who have just gone to dinner together, judging by the contents of their stomachs thanks to the autopsy reports. We should canvas the restaurants first and ask waiters if they find anyone suspicious. After that, we are sending in two undercover agents to try and lure him out.” Hotch explained and then a short silence ensued.
Y/N looked up from her file to find most of the team’s eyes on either her or Reid, “What?”
“You and Reid are the obvious candidates.” Hotch put it simply. Y/N glanced at Reid nervously, who happened to look just as nervous as she felt. He cleared his throat.
“Can I ask why us?” Spencer inquired.
“You two are the most compatible, considering your friendship and how close you are in age, and it would look the most realistic. We need to be as realistic as possible with this unsub, he is extremely picky. Make it believable. Wheels up in 30.” Hotch answered, straightening the files on the table and promptly leaving the conference room.
Spencer and Y/N both flushed and avoided each other’s gazes until they were on the jet.
“Hey, are you sure you’re okay with this? I’m sure Hotch would understand if you’re not.” Spencer leaned over to ask softly once the briefing had ended and everyone settled in for the flight. Y/N looked from the window to him.
“No, yeah, yeah, I’m totally fine with it. I was just a little nervous because I haven’t gone undercover before, but how hard can it be, right?” She sent him a small smile and a shrug, hoping it would hide the nerves.
It turned out to be very hard.
Standing in front of a gross bathroom mirror in a police precinct, she analyzed herself in her fancy dress and elaborate makeup and some part of her found herself wishing it was real. All of it. She wondered what it would be like to actually go on a romantic date with Spencer. If she was being honest, it wasn’t her first time wondering that. Not long after she’d joined the team, she found herself growing more and more attracted to a certain endearing genius. At first it started as a normal friendship, but then he got too sweet, too good to be true. She found herself living in daydreams with him too often. Those daydreams never quite disappeared, they just seemed to permeate other aspects of her life.
Love made you stupid, she was aware. There was not a single moment that passed by that she wasn’t thinking of Spencer. She couldn’t help it, she was like a moth drawn to a flame. Except the flame was Spencer, and she’d never wanted to be burned so badly before. But she’d learned to suppress her feelings. They were coworkers and close friends after all. A romantic involvement could ruin both those relationships if it ended badly.
But now her team was depending on her to act extremely in love with Spencer and she wasn’t sure she could do it without actually raising suspicion to the fact that it was real the entire time. So it’s safe to say she was panicking a little.
“Y/N? We’re ready, you feeling okay?” Emily stuck her head in through the door to ask.
“Huh? Oh yeah, totally ready. I’ll be right out.” Y/N checked her makeup, made sure her earpiece was well hidden, and adjusted her fancy dress to hide her firearm one last time before stepping out. Across the room, Derek immediately finished up his conversation with one of the local officers just to walk over and provide her with a whistle of approval.
“Damn, Y/L/N! Looking good!” Derek outwardly announced, making her cheeks redden immediately.
“Oh shut up, Morgan, I’m still armed.” Y/N snapped back, although he was unable to take her seriously with her flushed features. He sent her a signature dazzling smile and she found it hard to keep one off her own face.
She turned a little to see Spencer staring at her with wonder. He was dressed in a black three-piece velvet suit with a bowtie. He looked simply exquisite. They both smiled wide as they neared each other, Spencer extending his hand to her in the most gentlemanly of ways. She let her hand slip into his, somewhat glad for the support he gave her because of her high heels while simultaneously getting butterflies at the slight touch of his hand.
“You look beautiful, Y/N.” Spencer smiled and spoke quietly to her, proud that he wasn’t a stuttering mess just yet.
“And you look...expensive.” She let her eyes roam over his outfit before letting out a harmonious laugh. Spencer couldn’t help but grin in response as he adjusted his waistcoat with his free hand. They’d decided that Y/N would be the one carrying a firearm instead of Reid because her dress hid it better than his suit could have.
“Alright, kids, settle down. Now, let’s go over the plan. You’re going to go into the restaurant, sit at a table where you can be sure our unsub, George Mendoza, has a perfect view of you. You’ll have to make it super believable, he has to believe you guys are head over heels for each other.”
Shouldn’t be hard, they both thought, sharing a glance even though they didn’t mean to.
Morgan was really selling this. Y/N wondered if he knew…
But then again, if Garcia knew, Morgan knew. She also may have been forgetting that she was on the A team of profilers and just maybe the heart eyes she often gave Spencer gave her away already.
“Now, we know he corners his victims in the parking lot. We have to make sure he follows you out. Prentiss and Morgan will be by the door to follow you two out and hopefully ambush Mendoza.” Hotch explained and the two of them nodded.
“Got it.” She said, already shifting her weight from one foot to the other, the heels making her feet ache. Spencer noticed and dropped her hand, only to wrap his arm around her waist in hopes of steadying her and giving her the extra support she needed. JJ and Emily shared a knowing glance as they watched the subtle interaction between the two lovebirds. Y/N smiled to herself but avoided looking at him in order to keep the redness of her face at a minimum.
Spencer led her to the black SUV parked outside and they both hopped into the backseat, with Morgan and Emily in the front.
“Ready?” She asked, looking over to see a nervous-looking Spencer beside her as the car came to a halt in front of the restaurant.
He took a deep breath and nodded, “Ready.” He got out of the car and jogged around it to open her car door. She mirrored his actions and took a deep breath as well before plastering a huge smile across her features as she stepped out of the car. Morgan and Emily drove off to keep from blowing their cover. She and Spencer walked towards the greeter behind the podium, her arm tightly wound around his.
“Reservation for Dr. Reid.” Spencer spoke confidently. Y/N had to keep from biting her lip at how much she loved the sound of that.
The greeter smiled, “Right this way.” he led them to a table and Y/N was in Mendoza’s direct line of sight.
“I’ve got eyes on Mendoza. He’s sitting with a woman and two bodyguards are guarding his table.” She spoke with a smile to Spencer and also to the team through her earpiece.
“I’ve got him.” Morgan confirmed from wherever he was, apparently he could see inside the restaurant.
Spencer turned to look ever so discreetly and pretended to be looking for the waiter. He noticed Mendoza ogling Y/N and it made him feel sick to his stomach.
“Do you wanna switch seats with me?” Spencer asked, visibly uncomfortable.
“What, why? Are you okay?” She replied.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m...fine, I just thought you might be more,” he cleared his throat, “comfortable if he wasn’t looking at you.”
Y/N’s heart fluttered in her chest for a moment before glancing over to Mendoza, “Well, I’m fine, besides I think it’s better this way..that I’ve caught his eye.” She said with a slight roll of her eyes, making Spencer break into a grin.
“Don’t switch seats, that’ll look suspicious.” Emily spoke into their ears, “Now, don’t be so stiff. Relax, order some food or some drinks, whatever.”
“Alright, alright...relaxing.” She spoke mostly to herself and looked up at Spencer. Somehow looking at him made her feel at ease. His soft brown eyes brought her the reassurance she needed. Her gaze was intoxicating and Spencer could feel his hands starting to sweat as he wiped them on his pants.
“So this place is really, really fancy.” She said as she looked over the menu, which she could barely understand, “Wonder why he likes it.”
“He has an intense fixation on rich couples. Perhaps he sees his parents in the couples he chooses.” Spencer said, looking over the menu as well.
“Stop talking about the case!” Morgan’s voice boomed into their ears.
“Right, right! Sorry!” She whispered, “Okay, okay. Spence, tell me about these dishes, I have no idea what to order.”
“Um, okay. Well, I think you’d really enjoy the gnocchi in roasted red pepper sauce, Rossi’d made the same sauce and you’d really enjoyed it then when it was paired with pasta. Also the flavor of gnocchi is pretty neutral so it pairs really well with pungent sauces. Did you know that gnocchi originated in Northern Italy because the climate was better suited for growing potatoes rather than grain?” he continued to speak about gnocchi and all the different sauces one could eat it with.
Morgan had every intention to interrupt Spencer’s ramble but then Emily noticed the heart eyes Y/N was giving him, “Wait, no stop. Look at her, she’s into it.” Morgan chuckled and shook his head at the couple.
“Sorry...you should have stopped me.” Spencer ended his spiel, shyly taking a sip from his glass of water.
“Stop you? Why would I ever do that, you know I love your little tangents. Being with you makes me feel smart, actually. Except when you go on about quantum physics, I cannot keep up with that no matter how hard I try, I’m sorry.” She laughed and Spencer felt his confidence returning, “I can’t believe you made gnocchi sound so good. Now, I have to try it!” She grinned at him and Spencer swore he saw her eyes twinkle.
“What will you get?” She smiled at him, playing with her earring, a nervous tick of hers. Was she really that nervous? Why did she look so good doing it?
“Spence?” She noticed him zoning out slightly but he zoned back in.
“Huh? Oh, sorry um, I was a little distracted.” He blushed a little.
“Oh, by what?” She glanced over her shoulder to see if there was anything distracting behind her.
“Nothing, you just look very pretty.” Spencer complimented and she could not control the intense rush of blood that raced to her face.
Morgan and Emily both drew in breaths through their teeth, “Daaaaamn, pretty boy’s got moves.” Derek whispered to Emily, their mics off.
Y/N giggled bashfully and looked down at her menu, shaking her head. This is all an act, Y/N. Get it together! Spencer reveled in her flushed cheeks for a moment before glancing down at his menu again, “I’ll probably just get the steak.”
For the next hour, they both made small talk with more encouragement from Emily and Derek. When the food came, she leaned closer to him and he fed her a piece of his steak, completely overlooking the fact that he’d just shared his fork with someone else. The sight of the two of them acting so hopelessly lovesick nearly made Emily and Derek sick themselves. During dinner, Spencer had migrated closer to her and they could barely keep their hands off of each other without any prompting from their earpieces. Y/N now had one hand on Spencer’s thigh and the other was intertwined with his as he draped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer ever so slightly.
Hey, he was probably never going to get to do this again, might as well enjoy it.
They giggled together over stories of their pasts, “I’m serious, my leg was on fire and Morgan had to put me out!”
“Oh come on, you expect me to believe that?” She laughed, her head leaning onto his shoulder.
“Yes!” He exclaimed, laughing. In the midst of her laughter, Spencer felt the overwhelming need to press a kiss to her wonderfully flushed cheek, so he did. He placed a soft kiss to the side of her cheek and made sure to linger enough to feel the warmth radiating off her skin. The feel of his lips on her cheeks almost sent her in a spiral but she refused to meet his eyes, knowing that her eyes would most definitely give her away. Give away the longing and yearning she felt. She almost didn’t want to catch Mendoza because she knew that meant she’d have to give this up.
“Okay, lovebirds, Mendoza is losing interest. You have to up the ante somehow.” Derek spoke into their earpieces. Y/N was a little confused as to what more they could do to get his attention back to them, but she could practically hear the gears turning in Spencer’s head. She suddenly felt him separate himself from her and get up to walk around their table to be on her other side.
“What is he doing!” Emily whispered to Derek and he shrugged.
“Spence, what are you doing?” Y/N asked as he stood before her, offering his hand just like earlier in the evening.
“Y/N, do you trust me?” Spencer whispered as she put her hand in his. She felt him tug on it for her to stand with him and she finally nodded.
“Of course I do.” She whispered back, glancing around at people’s gazes who were now stuck on them.
“Then just go with it.” He smiled mischievously as he knelt down onto one of his knees. Y/N immediately caught herself hoping that it wasn’t the knee he injured before she realized what was happening. Her hands flew to her mouth in genuine shock. He was proposing, well, not actually proposing, but still! In his hand, Spencer held the ring she usually wore on her pointer finger, he must have taken it off without her noticing.
“Y/N, I have never doubted for a second that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. From the moment I met you, you consumed every piece of my mind, body, and soul. And at first I was afraid at how willingly I’d give it to you, but then I realized that there is not another person on this planet that I’d rather have my soul. You are the light of my life, Y/N. When I wake up in the morning, you’re the first person I think of and when I fall asleep, my thoughts are only occupied by you. There are around 170,000 words in the English language, and no matter how hard I try, I will never be able to express to you just how much I love you. Y/N, will you marry me and make me the happiest man alive?” Spencer stared up at her, hoping the weight of his words would somehow reach her through the guise of the assignment.
Y/N stood there, tears gathering in her eyes from the sheer overwhelming-ness of it all. Never had she imagined (because she has imagined it, if we’re being honest) that the day Spencer Reid would propose to her, it would be fake. The tears slipped out, she felt like sobbing at the artificiality of it all. Luckily those tears were in her favor to sway external witnesses. She suddenly remembered that he’d asked her a question.
“Yes! Yes, a million times yes!” A heavy sob escaped her and Spencer quickly slipped the ring onto her finger. Spectators clapped wildly and cheered for them. That definitely caught Mendoza’s attention.
She threw her arms around his neck while he hugged her waist to lift her off the ground slightly. Spencer momentarily allowed himself to believe that this was real. In a moment of giddiness, he set her down again on the floor and pulled her in for a celebratory kiss by her waist. It took her a moment to realize what was happening, but soon reciprocated the tender kiss. Although it was short, it was unlike any other kiss she’d had. They pulled away from each other when the clapping and commotion had died down. Spencer had smiled graciously at people who were congratulating them, while she was still completely dazed from the kiss. They both went back to their respective seats, Spencer now back across from her rather than beside her.
Emily had lowkey been hitting Derek’s arm as they kissed, a moment she and JJ were surely going to tease Y/N to the ends of the Earth about.
Y/N had just barely composed herself enough to wipe the remnants of tears from her cheeks which resulted in a low whisper coming from Spencer, “Are you alright?” She nodded and flashed him a smile, one that told him just how not fine she was, but Spencer decided to let it go for a moment. He hoped he hadn’t crossed the line with the kiss.
“Good job, kids. You are definitely back on Mendoza’s radar.” Morgan spoke into both their earpieces.
They waited another 10 minutes before making their exit, their meal already paid for. Spencer had his arm tight around her shoulders as they walked out of the restaurant and pretended to wait for the valet. Derek and Emily still had eyes on Mendoza inside, who waited exactly one minute before he and his bodyguards were on the move.
“Mendoza’s on the move. Y/L/N and Reid, get ready for the signal.” Emily spoke, still in their hiding position.
Y/N took her gun out of her thigh holster and kept it out of view. She felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand as Mendoza approached them from behind.
“Congratulations to the lovely young couple. Can I just say how well you two suit each other?” Mendoza’s slimy voice began and it made their skin crawl.
“Now!” Emily spoke and both she and Morgan emerged with their firearms raised at the three men.
Y/N swiveled around and aimed her gun at him, “FBI, hands up, now!” She yelled and Mendoza’s men came forward to attack the two of them when they all heard the clicks of Emily and Derek’s guns from behind them.
“Uh-uh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Derek taunted. Mendoza visibly deflated and Spencer was quick to cuff him and read him his rights.
“George Mendoza, you are under arrest for the murder of 14 people…” Spencer went on as Emily and Derek cuffed the other two men. Y/N took a deep breath as she watched her teammates stuff them into police cars. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see Hotch.
“Nice work, Y/L/N.” He gave her an approving nod and led her back to one of the SUVs. She immediately relaxed back into the seat and took off her heels.
On the jet back to Quantico, Y/N was teased quietly by Emily and JJ but they could tell that something was off about her. She wasn’t as bright as she usually was. Her eyes didn’t shine with the triumph that came with solving another case. Instead she was reserved and proceeded to retreat into herself when the teasing had stopped.
Oh how she wished it was real. She found herself keeping the ring on her ring finger rather than returning it to its rightful place on her pointer finger. She wanted to live in the daydream for as long as she could. Spencer’s words swirled around in her head with no shame or trepidation. She didn’t have an eidetic memory, but she would remember those words forever. Hearing them over and over seemed to have cracked and broken her heart and she was frantically trying to piece it back together. On the far side of the jet, Spencer was in a pool of regret. He wouldn’t have kissed her if he knew it’d make her uncomfortable. She has barely spoken to him since they closed the case and it didn’t seem like she would be talking any time soon.
Hotch had given them two days off to cool off from the case and get some much needed sleep. Y/N thought that spending time away from Spencer would somehow heal the cracks in her heart, but they only seemed to make it worse. She knows she shouldn’t have cried into that tub of ice cream, but she couldn’t help it. She thought back to her friend who’d just gotten engaged the previous month and while she was never the jealous type, she found that feelings of envy were inevitable. She wondered if Spencer had meant anything he’d said. What did it mean if he did? No, no, she wasn’t even going to entertain the thought that he might feel anything for her. That would only lead to false hope and possibly deeper heartbreak.
But…
The way he’d looked at her when he said he loved her. That couldn’t be faked, right? She was a profiler for goodness’s sake, she should have been able to tell, but it was abundantly clear that her feelings for Spencer got in the way of her profiling skills.
Going back to work was relatively easy, except for the fact that she couldn’t look Spencer in the eye without hearing the words he’d said to her. It was ridiculous of her to even consider the fact that he might have not been just acting. She’d spoken barely two words to him and Spencer was itching all day to speak with her, but he just couldn’t. They were both avoiding each other for the wrong reasons. Unfortunately, their coworkers noticed the obvious shift in behavior. It was so unlike the two to be so awkward around each other. JJ had even caught Spencer doing a 180 and returning to his desk as soon as he saw Y/N at the coffee machine.
Something must be done.
They’d all decided to leave quietly 15 minutes early, minus Hotch and Rossi who were already cooped up in their offices. They hoped the empty bullpen could give them the privacy they needed to talk about whatever they needed to.
“Hey, Em, could you look at this for me? I think--” Y/N trailed off as she glanced up from her paperwork to see an almost completely empty bullpen, “Oh, where did everybody go?” she asked herself and technically Spencer, who also seemed to be totally engrossed in his work.
“Hm, I think everyone left already.” Spencer stood from his desk, bones cracking as he did so.
“That’s weird…” she shrugged and tried to get back to work.
“Um, so what did you need Emily for? I could take a look at it if you want.” Spencer offered, walking over to her desk and leaning on the side of it.
“Uh..y-yeah, sure.” She stammered as she looked for the file she just set down, having him in close proximity was making her mind go numb for a second, “Here, um...I think it was filed in the wrong folder. I’ll just--uh..give it to JJ tomorrow or something.” She swallowed, avoiding his eyes as she showed it to him.
“Hold on a second, I think...this...goes in here with this case…” he trailed off as he grabbed a folder from his own desk.
“Huh, someone must have accidentally placed it on my desk instead of yours.” She nodded.
“It was probably Anderson.” They both said at the same time, making them both laugh.
It felt right to laugh with him again. Spencer’s heart skipped a beat when she finally looked up and grinned at him. He felt like the air was somehow restored to his lungs. He watched as she shyly looked back down and tucked some hair behind her ear. He cleared his throat and fumbled with the file in his hand.
“Hey, I--uh...never got the chance to apologize...for uhm, how things went when we were, y’know undercover.”
Wow, real smooth Spence. Great job.
He watched as her brows furrowed together, eyes lifting to meet his, “What do you mean?”
“I...shouldn’t have...kissed you, I’m sorry. I just thought...I don’t know, it seemed like most couples usually kiss after proposals and I thought if we didn’t kiss it would have looked weird. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, Y/N.” He apologized and Y/N’s heart might have definitely exploded in her chest. Here was this sweet, sweet man who was apologizing because he felt like he made her uncomfortable, as if that’s the reason she’d been acting weird.
“No, it didn’t make me uncomfortable at all!” She laughed it off, shaking her head. My God, Spencer Reid, there really is no one else like you.
He fought off a relieved smile, “Oh, it didn’t?” She shook her head, laughing wholeheartedly now.
“No, on the contrary, I quite liked it, Dr. Reid.” She rolled her eyes, still giggling.
“Why have you been avoiding me and acting all awkward then?” He laughed with her.
“God, Spencer, did you really think I was being awkward because you kissed me?” She spoke, her arms lifting up and coming back down in disbelief.
“Yes!” he nodded, crossing his arms and shifting as he leaned on her desk, “I thought I’d made you uncomfortable…”
“No...Spencer, that’s not it at all…” She smiled softly but it began to fade as she stared at him.
There are around 170,000 words in the English language, and no matter how hard I try, I will never be able to express to you just how much I love you.
“Then what is it, Y/N? What’s going on?” He pursed his lips, wanting to absorb any and all the pain she’d ever felt in her life.
She had to know.
“The things you said...while you were uhm...proposing. Did--did you mean any of them?” She looked up at him with the largest doe eyes he’d ever seen. Her eyes began to shine with tears as her shoulders tensed with anticipation.
He shifted again uncomfortably at the question and her unfaltering gaze, “I--uh, I did, actually.” The heat rushed to his face and ears, “I definitely did mean them, Y/N. Does--does that make you feel weird?”
“No, no, not in the slightest,” her face broke out into another grin, this one with hints of relief, as she stood up from her desk chair to be at eye-level with him, “actually, if I’m being honest, I wanted you to mean them.”
Spencer smiled as he uncrossed his arms, “Is that right?”
“Mhm.” She hummed, placing both her hands on the sides of his neck, his hands now resting comfortably on her waist. She watched as his gaze never left her lips.
“Can I kiss you?” His eyes briefly flickered upwards to hers for permission.
“Please do.” She smiled before he connected their lips.
It felt right this time. She knew it did because she could finally savor the feeling of her stomach doing somersaults. She knew because she could finally know the feeling of his large hands roaming the expanse of her back in efforts to pull her closer. She knew because she could finally feel the incredibly soft tufts of hair at the base of his neck as she weaved her fingers through them.
In the distance, Hotch and Rossi simultaneously checked the bullpen through the blinds of their offices at the suspicious silence. Both of them shook their heads and laughed at the blooming of young love.

Spencer was watching you. He could tell you hadn’t noticed, despite being a competent profiler yourself. Which was why he was becoming exceedingly concerned.
Something about you was...off.
He hadn’t pinpointed what, just that you had been acting different for about two weeks now. As your best friend, he knew you too well to simply brush it off. And while he was hesitant to ask you, he couldn’t help but watch you for signs, anything to give away what might be going on.
After New Year's Eve, a night the two of you had agreed what you had done together had been between two friends, who had been drinking and who were both entirely single.
You had been the one to throw a party for bringing in the New Year, insisting on the entire team coming because you wanted to show off your beautiful condo, your tasteful decorating skills. Spencer spent a lot of time at your condo, often staying the night on your ridiculously comfortable couch, and so it was no surprise that he enjoyed indulging a little too much on beverages that night, and subsequently remained overnight.
It had surprised you both, when he had closed the door on Hotch and Rossi-that last two to leave the celebration-and the quiet he’d been craving for a while settled and he pulled you into a tight embrace, his lips pressing to your head in an uncommonly affectionate display.
“You know, I think it’s customary to kiss someone when you ring in the New Year, (Y/N),” He had muttered, unthinking. The walls he built around his feelings for you, which extended beyond friendship, were thin-weakened by the alcohol.
Leaning your head back to meet his eyes, glassy and wide-eyed, you giggled, “I always thought that was silly, meant for couples to just show off how happily domestic they are!” You rolled your eyes, but you hadn’t moved out of his arms.
Spencer had cleared his throat, “It can be...friends, who care deeply, too.” He replied lamely.
And normally, this sort of conversation might have had you ruffling his hair before you moved away laughing. Not that he’d ever say anything like this if he was sober.
Instead, you had dropped your smile and something...different had glinted in your eyes before your tongue had wet your plump lips. That action had a strong effect; Spencer’s wall simply bursting open. He had pressed his lips to yours with a groan, gathering you closer in his arms. When you reacted in earnest to this, moaning softly, he lost every ounce of willpower to hold back, to stop.
But you had never asked to stop.
No, you had followed him down every path, eager and smiling, falling into bliss without hesitation. Spencer had never felt so whole, so safe. If it had been a movie, the viewers would have said it wasn’t sex, these two were making love.
But the alcohol, it had played its part in this crossing over the line, blatant disregard for the friendship you both cherished so immensely. It had aided the longing, the hidden feelings and tempted you both into relinquishing that control, that steady and routine pace of life.
Best friends fall in love. They make love. Then date, right?
Only that wasn’t the case here. You and Spencer had woken in the late morning hours of the first day of the year wrapped in one another’s arms. Naked, evidence of your activities abundant in your bedroom, on your skin where he had bite gently before laving his tongue to soothe. And you had looked at one another and tried to grip the slippery memories, bring them to the surface, but the alcohol had burned away too much of them...so you agreed, simultaneously, that these things can happen, that neither of you was upset and things could go back to normal.
It hadn’t even been awkward, and that was something that Spencer could never forget. Cuddled together, facing one another in your bed, you had simply talked. About the night, about how little you both remembered, about how you had both enjoyed it, how you loved one another as best friends should. He could have told you he was desperately in love with you, but he didn’t. You followed each other into an agreement that all was well, and nothing would ever come between you.
That had been over a month ago. Even with the limited memories, Spencer still replayed what he could in his mind over and over. The way you looked when your dress hit the floor, how you had let him lead, the expression on your face when you climbed into his lap and sunk onto him, taking every inch while his name spilled from your lips like a song. How it felt like the two of you were made for each other, your sloppy, lazy movements matching in the glow of too many vodka shots and margaritas. Blank spaces were there, but he did remember the moment you both reached your peak, together, moving your hips to meet and draw the feeling of oblivion out as long as you could.
He remembered saying he loved you. He just didn’t know if you had heard him.
Standing in the conference room of the Central Florida Police Department, on a case, Spencer was watching you from across the room. Listening as Hotch spoke, but his eyes assessing the way your hand move to the back of your neck as if you had a headache, the surprise in your face when you noticed you were sweating. You pulled a hairband from your pocket and secured your long locks into a casual ponytail.
Nothing had changed between Spencer and you since New Year's Eve. You still spent all of your free time together, still watched Doctor Who and went to bookshops for hours, shared a double room on cases. And yet, two weeks ago Spencer noticed small changes, things that as a profiler he knew not many would also notice, and yet still concerning. He couldn’t even pinpoint the cause, maybe that was why he was so focused on figuring you out. Because while you smiled at him the same, laughed with him, hugged him-you still didn’t seem yourself.
You had been having headaches more frequently, a little pucker between your brows appearing before you inevitably gave in and took Tylenol. You weren’t eating as much, but you were drinking a lot of water-that was something even Hotch had noticed, commenting one day when you had slipped back into a meeting with a refilled water bottle in hand. You had laughed it off, unbothered.
But Spencer had frowned, his suspicions rising.
There were more subtle changes as well, your skin had seemed clearer but your cheeks were always flushed. You had always been a good hugger, but you didn’t pull others as close to you as you usually would, occasionally wincing even when you thought no one was paying attention. The final straw that convinced him something was going on was your moods.
You had always been a very even-tempered person, especially at work. While you had strong emotions, you kept them at bay as needed. But he had counted exactly eight incidents where he saw your eyes fill with tears that did not warrant those reaction-emotional commercials or a kind word from Hotch on performance. You had blinked them back each time, just as surprised to find yourself crying as he was. And suddenly, you had a bit of a temper too, something that reared its ugly head in the forms of road rage, or impatience with local police staff. Morgan had joked that you were finally growing into your bossy side, but Spencer didn’t agree.
He just didn’t know what the hell was wrong with you. And he was afraid to upset you, to cross a line, if he asked you. You told him everything; whatever this was, he could wait for you to talk to him. At least, that’s what he constantly told himself.
“Thanks, Garcia, can you send-?” Hotch was saying, but Garcia cut him off with her usual cheeriness.
“Coordinates already sent to your phones, Garcia over and out!”
The line went dead and Hotch ended the call, tucking his phone into his pants, “Okay guys, gear up.”
Things moved at a regular pace after that, the team ready to bring in a dangerous unsub, who may or may not be at the house they were about to raid. Gearing up, Spencer and you were separated in different cars but teamed together once you were on location.
Standing in the mid-afternoon Florida heat was uncomfortable, the house they were surrounding had no trees, no shade to attempt to find reprieve. And based on the condition of the exterior, Spencer very much doubted this home had central A/C circulating fresh, cool air. You stood next to him in your vest, eyes focused on the house before you glanced up to meet his eyes, give him a gentle smile.
“Ready, doc?” You cheeked.
Spencer returned your smile, “Should be a good opportunity to see some of the potential beach houses we could rent for a vacation.” He gestured at the dilapidated bungalow. You giggled, lowering your head to press to his arm in an attempt to hide your silliness, keeping your voice low.
“Spence, there’s no beach here.”
“Then why in all the world is the street called Beach Street?” He deadpanned.
At this, you snorted, one hand gripping his arm now, trying your best to hide away from Hotch, who was still talking to the Sargent and hadn’t noticed the exchange. Spencer smiled, a rush of relief running through him every time you acted like yourself. He hoped he was just seeing things that weren’t there because of what had happened on New Year's Eve, his mind trying to torture him for it all getting so out of control. You were fine.
“Alright, let’s go!” Hotch barked, instantly snapping you both back into work mode.
Spencer had been right, unfortunately. You and he entered through the back door, which leads off the kitchen, and the house completely reeked. The steamy air simply swallowed you both when you stepped inside the dirty room, both on high alert and yet still trying not to focus on the smell, on the sound of flies.
Perhaps this was the first moment Spencer should have realized you were not, in fact, fine. But when you began to breathe steadily from your mouth next to him, he brushed it off-maybe it helped you keep your head clear in this cesspool of rotten, unkempt living.
When the main floor was cleared, silently, Hotch and Prentiss were the first to breach the basement. Climbing down the curved staircase carefully before you and Spencer and the rest of the team followed, then splitting off into groups to search the rooms. The basement was large, and it was a very uncommon thing to have a basement in this part of the world- which was one of the red flags they had spotted when narrowing down a geo-profile for the unsub.
Morgan and JJ were behind you and Spencer, watching your backs as you cleared the meagre laundry room, then the furnace room. Down a final hallway, one door stood unchecked, and you approached ahead of Spencer, kneeling for a moment to turn the knob quietly, allowing him and Morgan to burst in first and call for the man inside to freeze.
They had known this man was a butcher, a sadistic man who enjoyed cutting his victims up like it was an art. Walking into his kill room was like stepping into a preview of Hell itself, the dirty and blood-spattered surfaces nothing compared to the site of rotting flesh hanging from the ceiling, dripping fluids on the concrete floor while the butcher no doubt worked at the table that sat in the centre of the room. He was standing there now, hands raised, his latest victim already dead-for a while, it seemed-a yellow-stained smile that didn’t meet his eyes stretching his mottled face.
This was Spencer’s second clue that you weren’t fine. As you hiccuped next to him, catching his eyes as Morgan cuffed the butcher, JJ holding her gun stead on Spencer’s other side. He looked you over and you seemed to be biting something back, and he wondered if maybe you wanted to say something to the butcher, to call him a monster.
Only, then he saw the colour was draining from your cheeks. He could hear the others in the hall behind them, so he holstered his gun and turned to you, watching as you lowered your weapon.
Your hands were shaking.
“(Y/N)?”
You looked up at him now and Spencer immediately felt a shiver shoot down his back; your pupils were pin-pricks, your face now far too pale, but your expression was so devastating like you couldn’t understand what was happening.
“D-dizzy...” And then you fainted, your gun falling from your hands, and Spencer was catching you while screaming out for Hotch, for medics. He caught you and quickly raised you into his arms, knowing he needed to get you outside of this putrid basement, into fresher air. JJ and Hotch were right by his side as he sprinted outside, lowering you to the grass before seeking out your pulse. It was steady but slow and a little weak.
He was still saying your name but you weren’t waking up, and then the medics were there and they checked your eyes and you still didn’t wake up. Spencer didn’t realize he was groaning as if in pain, his mind running through the last two weeks and questioning every moment he had seen, every symptom he thought was related to what the two of you had done together.
Had he been so blinded that he missed a real condition? You were younger than Spencer by a few years, healthy and active. What hadn’t he seen?
At the hospital, what felt like hours passed but in reality was merely fifty minutes-minutes that Spencer spent pacing angrily, proclaiming his stupidity to his colleagues, unloading the burden of his worries on them when it now felt too late.
They knew they could say nothing to comfort him, and so none of them tried, they simply listened. Occasionally one of them would brush his arm as he passed, a small gesture of affection. Spencer barely noticed.
“(Y/F/N) family?” A young doctor called, and the entire BAU stood instantly, allowing Spencer to shoot forward. The doctor didn’t hesitate, “You must be the husband?”
Spencer didn’t even hear her, “Is she alright?” His voice sounded coarse, strained. He held his breath.
She gave a small smile, “Yes, she’s just being settled into her room. She’s suffered a bad case of...exhaustion and mixed with the conditions of the home you described to the medics on your way here, I’m not surprised she fainted. She’ll need to stay overnight, we’re going to get her fluids back up and monitor the-her heart rate, get some food into her. Mainly, she needs to rest. Once she’s released I expect I’ll be assigning her bed rest for a few weeks.”
Spencer didn’t remember the ambulance ride over, just that he had been the one to go, his eyes never leaving you, not until the door closed that led into the staff-only area of the hospital. Had he really told them of the house? “Can I please see her?”
The doctor patted his arm, “Of course, follow me.”
You already looked so much better, the flush back in your cheeks and a small smile on your face when Spencer appeared in the doorway, drinking in the sight of you alive and well and beautiful, so beautiful. You were left alone, the doctor closing the door as she left, and before you could speak Spencer launched himself across the room and gently pulled you into a hug, being mindful of the IV line. Your heart monitor spiked, a sound he was very happy to hear.
“Sweet girl,” He breathed, kissing your head, your cheek, your hand, “I’m so sorry, I knew something was off with you and now the doctor said it’s exhaustion and I missed the signs, I thought I was being idiotic and then you-“
“Spence,” You pressed your hands to his face, and he carefully sat down on the bed, leaning over you, “I’m okay, this isn’t your fault.” You were so sweet.
Spencer shook his head despite the kind and sincere expression on your face, “I should have mentioned that I thought you seemed weird, maybe we could have prevented this.”
You were shaking your head now, a funny smile on your face, “We couldn’t have prevented this. I mean...” You broke off, looking away as if searching for the words you wanted to say. Spencer brushed the hair from your forehead, waiting for you to speak. “When I said this isn’t your fault, well Spence, it kind of is?”
Spencer stared at you, entirely confused. Your words should have cut through him, but that smile on your face made no sense. He watched as you seemed to steel yourself. “(Y/N)? What is it?” He took your hands into his, concerned, and at a complete loss.
For a moment, you stared back into his eyes, an unreadable storm of emotions within them. You leaned back into your cushions, took a deep breath, “I want you to know, Spencer Reid-that I am so, so in love with you,” You never looked away as Spencer froze, his mouth popping open in surprise. “You’re always going to be my best friend, no matter what, but New Years Eve-what I can remember-was the best night of my life. I can’t stop thinking about you, I never could really but now that I know, w-what I do about you, how it feels to be with you, it’s like I can’t get you out of my head. I love you.”
You were so brave, he thought at that moment. You never broke your gaze, your hands squeezing his as you spoke, as you eviscerated Spencer entirely with your beautiful words. He gulped in air, but it wouldn’t reach his lungs. You had just told him you were in love with him...that you thought about him, about that night, just like he did of you. Never, ever did he think that was what you were going to say, that you could feel the same. Never.
“Oh, sweet girl,” He finally gasped, leaning in and pressing his lips to yours in a soft, sweet kiss before pulling back slightly, “I should have told you that morning, when we woke up-I love you too, so much. I felt like we left that night with nothing, despite how it meant everything to me. You mean everything to me, (Y/N).”
Your eyes had filled with tears that now leaked down your cheeks, “Well, we didn’t leave that night with nothing...we...Spencer, I’m pregnant.” Your sentence rushed out and he felt the air evaporate within him, his entire body going rigid.
He just stared at you, waiting for the punchline, but you were giving him this knowing, somewhat empathetic look.
You weren’t kidding.
Like a tidal wave, his stupid genius brain finally pieced together all of your symptoms, the water, the appetite, sweating and headaches and the fucking mood swings. “I-(Y/N), how-?”
You laughed, not unkind as you reached up with one hand and cupped his cheek, “When two people love each other, they-“
Spencer cut off your joke, “No, I remember, you have an IUD.”
You sighed, still smiling, “They did a scan, looks like it’s not in place properly, which they said could happen. They removed it, today. And then they told me.”
Spencer could feel himself choking up, emotions swirling around, overwhelming him. And yet, he could see that even though he hadn’t responded to the news yet, you remained unbothered because you just understood him so well. Understood that it took time for some things to sink in for him. Your thumb brushed softly across his cheek, your other hand still squeezing his, keeping him grounded.
“You’re pregnant.” He said it aloud, stated it, then felt himself brighten, “You’re pregnant with our baby.” He didn’t realize the wetness on his face was his tears, not until you wiped at them with your thumb, now beaming at him.
“I’m pregnant with our baby-it’s been almost five weeks, so it’s still very early, but because I didn’t think, I didn’t realize-“ You broke off then, joy quickly turned to sadness.  “They said that everything looks just fine, that I just overdid it and now that I know I can start doing, all of the stuff you do for this, but I feel so stupid. I thought I was experiencing physical reactions to the stress and guilt I felt for what we did, for almost ruining-“
Spencer cut in, “No, no sweet girl, this isn’t your fault, you aren’t stupid-you’re perfect.” He refused to let you blame yourself, “And most people who aren’t trying to get pregnant don’t notice those symptoms for what they are right away. It’s entirely normal that you assumed what you did, it’s what I thought too.”
At this, you locked your eyes to his again, frowning, “How could we both be so ridiculous?”
Spencer laughed, taking your head into his hand and hugging you to his chest, “I can’t believe this, I really can’t.” His mind was swirling, so many thoughts rushing forward as he holds you close. Knowing you felt the same had his heart soaring already. But you were going to have his baby, be a mother. He was going to be a father.
Your arms snaked up to circle his neck, where you tucked your head, pulling him from his thoughts “I know we weren’t expecting this...I just need you to know-“
“I think I should move in.”
You jerked back from Spencer in surprise, eyes comically wide, “You want to move in?” You were smiling at him. He looked at you closely, holding your gaze.
“I’m there all the time anyway, and if you’re carrying my baby then I have a lot of responsibility now, I understand if you aren’t ready. But I’d like to take care of you, both of you. And I never want to come home to a place where you don’t live, (Y/N).”
You were fully crying now, cute sniffles surrounding your reply, “Yes, Spe-Spencer, you can move in, I’d love that.”
He hugged you again, and the two of you sat together in a state of complete content. Spencer had never been happier in his life, and he knew that even though he could barely remember the best night of his life, he was going to cherish it forever knowing that it led to this, the best day of his life he was never going to forget.

Spencer walked up to Y/N’s hotel room door to see if she was ready to meet the team downstairs to leave for the jet back to Quantico. He knocked on her door and waited patiently for her to open up. Ever since they became friends five years ago when Y/N joined the team, they’ve made it a tradition to make sure they were both set to leave for the jet to go home.
Y/N opened the door with a huge smile already plastered on her face. She had her to-go back ready in her hand. Spencer smiled and held out his hand to her. She obliged and gave him her to-go bag. From the very beginning he would offer to carry her to-go bag out of courtesy. Before Y/N would refuse to let him carry it because she felt bad but he always insisted he would do anything to make her day easier.
“You’re such a gentleman, Spence. I don’t think I’ll ever get over how sweet you are,” she said as she closed the hotel room door.
He smiled. “You act as if I’m carrying you on my back.”
She giggled. “You might as well be.”
“I would if you wanted me to.”
“I’ll remember that next time I’m too tired to walk to the jet.”
They both laughed as they walked towards the elevator. The rest of the team was probably downstairs in the lobby waiting for them. They were always the last two to arrive which raised eyebrows and raised higher suspicions as to if they were just really good friends.
When they stepped into the elevator, Y/N was telling him something about what she was going to do when she got home but he found himself lost in her eyes. He found himself doing it often lately and felt bad whenever he did because he loved hearing her talk. He loved watching her smile once she remembered the little details in her story she forgot. He loved the excitement in her eyes whenever he had anything to add to her story.
Having Y/N in his life felt like an upgrade to him. They were always there for each other and understood each other deeper than anyone else. He probably spent more hours with her on his days off than he spent alone. The more they saw each other, the happier he was. It was unreal to him because no one person had ever made him feel a sense of euphoria before.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, they both could see the team waiting in the lobby. As they walked up towards them the looks already started to float around. Morgan’s eyebrow squiggled up as he gave Spencer a fascinated look. JJ tried to conceal her smile. Hotch looked at them unimpressed by their tardiness. Spencer and Y/N played every look off as cool as possible instead of trying to defend themselves.
“Nice for you two to finally join us,” JJ said.
“Better late than never,” Y/N said.
“Ten minutes late though?” Morgan asked.
“It’s been 10 minutes?” Spencer asked.
“We’ll discuss your time management skills on the jet. Let’s go,” Hotch said.
“Yes, sir,” they both said.
Spencer sat on the couch reading a book as everyone else on the jet was sleeping. It was the middle of the night by now as they were flying back to the east coast. He didn’t fall asleep like everyone else because someone was keeping him up. Y/N was still fighting sleep as she tried to finish her crossword puzzle next to him. He would quietly chime in here and there to help her out but she wanted to complete one on her own. She was still extremely grateful for his input as her brain slowly shut down.
She yawned for the fifteenth time within the hour. Spencer looked over at her to see her looking blankly at the crossword in front of her. He smiled as he placed his hand on the page. It took her a while to notice which told him she was even more tired than he originally thought.
“Y/N, I think you should get some rest. You’re really tired,” he softly said.
“But I want to keep you company,” she said through another yawn.
He blushed. “You just being by my side is company enough. You don’t have to be awake.”
She looked at him to give him a faint smile as her eyes could barely stay open. Without another word exchanged between both of them, she laid down with her head on his lap. Before she drifted off, she looked up at him with sleepy eyes as he looked at her surprised.
“You’re okay with me sleeping on you right?” She asked.
He nodded his head. “O-of course.”
She smiled one last time before making herself comfortable on his lap again. He picked up the blanket and draped it over her. He looked at her to see she had already drifted away. He felt the flutter in his chest again. He usually felt those flutters when they were alone. Even in a plane full of his team members and friends, she was the only one he focused on.
He put his book down and let out a deep sigh as he thought about this feeling inside of him. He looked at her peacefully sleeping on his lap. He liked how she was comfortable with him and he liked he could be the one to bring her comfort.
He sighed again as he took a moment to think about every time he and Y/N were together. The way she would look at him made him feel like the luckiest man out there. Every time they touched gave him a burst of energy. Her whole presence made him feel as if he was on another planet every time.
‘Oh fuck, I really like her,’ he thought to himself.
When he finally came to terms with it in his mind, he knew he wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about it the whole jet ride. He didn’t even attempt to continue reading. No amount of words in his favourite book could distract him from the feelings he had finally come to terms with.
He looked down at her again. He brushed a piece of hair away from her face ever so gently so she wouldn’t wake up. Even in her sleep she smiled at his touch. He felt his face radiate as he saw her small smile appear and fade as she drifted back off to dreamland.
He stared out into space as he thought about her. He thought about how he would properly express himself to her without embarrassing himself. He didn’t even know if she felt the same fluttering feelings towards him. He pondered the whole way back to Quantico. Was telling her worth risking their friendship? Would she even reciprocate her feelings back to him? He understood if she didn’t but he secretly wished she would.
After a two hour flight, they were finally back in Quantico. It was the middle of the night so everyone was in a hurry to get in their cars and make their way home to get a decent night’s sleep. Spencer and Y/N walked to her car together as they hadn’t parked so far away from each other. Even though she was still tired, her profiler senses were still on point as she saw Spencer gripping the strap of his satchel tightly.
“Is everything okay, Spence?” She asked.
“Yeah, of course,” he said.
“I didn’t sleep on you too hard, did I?” She joked.
“No, not at all,” he chuckled.
“So, what’s up? You think I don’t notice you gripping onto your satchel for dear life or your nervous expression?” She asked.
Spencer immediately stopped gripping his satchel strap so tight and fixed his nervous expression. Well, he tried to. Y/N raised an eyebrow as she wasn’t buying his attempt to avoid her questions.
“Are you trying to avoid answering me?” She asked.
“No, I would never,” he said.
“Seems like you would since you’re doing just that right now,” she said.
“It’s just…it’s hard to express,” he said.
Y/N looked at him in shock. “Dr. Spencer Reid finding it hard to express himself? Unheard of. It must be something really complex.”
“You can say that,” he said.
As they reached Y/N’s car, she grabbed his hand which had found itself back on his satchel strap. She held his hand close to her and he could feel his palms getting sweaty. He felt his face getting hot again as well as she looked deep into his eyes with that smile he loved so much plastered on her face.
“Well, you can attempt to express it to me,” she said.
At the moment she said those words, Spencer found his hands grip the side of her face and pulled her into a kiss. Y/N didn’t even pull away to question it and wrapped her arms around his neck to let him know the kiss was well received. As they parted lips, Spencer looked at her with a face coloured deep red. Y/N giggled at how flustered he looked.
“I’m so sorry. I don’t even know-”
“That was really hot. Like really, really hot.”
Spencer looked at her in shock. “Really? It wasn’t weird or awkward?”
Y/N shook her head. “Not at all. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long while but I’ve been too chicken to do it.”
“Really? You like me too?”
“Like? I’m pretty sure I’m in love with you, good doctor.”
He chuckled. “Maybe we can discuss us over dinner sometime?”
“Only if we can do more of this.”
Y/N embraced Spencer in another quick kiss to seal the deal. When they parted Spencer couldn’t help smiling widely as he looked at her. He stroked her cheek as he got lost in her eyes.
“We can definitely do more of this,” he said.
“Finally,” they heard JJ and Morgan shout.
They turned to see they were both walking by on the other side. They gave them two thumbs up each with overjoyed looks on their face. Spencer and Y/N giggled as they watched how excited they were for them. They both knew they weren’t the only people who were waiting for a move to be made.

Hi I love your work so much you’re such a great writer!!! Can you do a fic where it’s the reader’s birthday and everyone forgets (or just doesn’t acknowledge it) and Spencer goes to her place to basically say he didn’t forget and confess his love for her/them.
it was your birthday today. it wasn't a particularly special one, but for some reason, you were excited about it. your day had started off great, you'd even managed to catch the fast train into quantico, which meant you'd gotten to the office early, even managing to stop and get coffee and pastries for the team, a sweet gesture, you were sure they'd be grateful for.
although no one had wished you a happy birthday as they collected their breakfast, you simply put it down to them not being fully awake yet. so you didn't let that deter you from your chipper mood, not even when hotch announced that today would be paperwork day, quite literally the most tedious part of the job.
the rest of the day passed slowly, jokes were thrown around the bullpen and piles of folders were passed around, primarily to spencer, who took them with no hesitation. as time went on, you were feeling more like they'd completely forgotten your birthday, truthfully you weren't the biggest fan of birthdays, yet it still hurt that no one had remembered it.
you thought to yourself for a moment, wondering if it was all a ruse and that there was secretly a party being planned, it was vain to think so, but they'd done it to the others before, so you didn't have much of a reason to doubt they would do it for you. however, as the day rolled to an end, paperwork diminishing, and people leaving to return home to their families. you realised they had indeed forgotten all about your not so special, special day.
you tried to mask the disappointment on your face, not wanting to draw concern from the members of your team that were still lingering out, which at this time was just spencer. but he was quick to catch the way your face dropped as Penelope, the one person you'd thought would surprise you by remembering, walked away.
"are you ok?" he asked you, he looked sad, and it made you want to laugh, you didn't mean to be bitter, you were just upset and, truthfully, kind of embarrassed.
"yeah, just tired s'all." you replied, looking back down to your papers, trying to rush through the last few and get back home. you heard spencer hum before getting up to walk towards you. you felt your heart rate pick up as he neared you, and you prayed he wouldn't be able to hear the way it was beating out of your chest.
"go home." he said, lifting up the remaining files on your pile and taking them back to his desk. you dropped your pen, your jaw dropping slightly.
"n-no its ok, I can finish them." you said, trying to reach over to his desk and take back your files. but he just pulled them closer to him.
"its fine y/n, i don't mind." he said, brushing you off and getting back to his work. you sat there for a moment, contemplating walking over to him and taking back your files. but you know he wasn't lying when he said he didn't mind doing them, so you got up and got ready to leave.
"thank you spencer." you said, stopping by his desk before you left. it was stupid to do so, but some small part of you was still clinging on to the hope that he would remember your birthday. but he didn't.
"enjoy your evening y/n." is all he said, waving to you as you walked away. you felt stupid for it, but you felt your heart break at that moment.
you'd ended up missing the last quick train back to where you lived, ending up sat next to a man who smelt like stale cigarettes and an old grandma who wouldn't stop poking you with her elbow. it was funny, actually... how quickly your day had turned into complete shit.
just as luck would have it, the elevator in your building had broken down that afternoon, and you were forced to climb up 15 flights of stairs back to your apartment. you were a mess when you got back into your home, dropping your bag and coat on the ground, throwing your shoes into some corner and collapsing onto the couch. you cried, it was dumb, and you felt childish for doing so, but you cried. pained by the fact that your closest friends, the people you called family...the guy you'd had a crush on for longer than you could remember had all forgotten your birthday.
you weren't sure how it'd happened, but you fell asleep on the couch, still dressed in your work clothes. you were awoken by the sound of your doorbell ringing, you sat up quickly...slightly panicked. your hand grazed across the gun in your pocket, keeping it close just in case your surprise visitor turned out to be some kind of murderer.
except it wasn't a murderer. it was spencer. he was holding a bag full of what you could only assume to be chinese takeout in one hand and a large bouquet of flowers in the other. "I'm an idiot." he said, a sheepish grin plastered across his face. "happy birthday y/n."
"thank you spencer." you smiled as you gestured for him to come in, apologising for the mess. he followed you into the kitchen, setting down the bags and the flowers on the counter. you did quick work of finding a vase and filling it with water before placing it in the centre of the table.
"i'm so sorry, there's no excuse for not remembering your special day." he said, walking closer to you.
"it's fine spence, don't worry about it." you said, but he could hear the sadness in your tone.
"it's not fine, were upset about something and i should've realised it sooner." you shook your head at his words, trying to reassure him that it was fine, but the tears welling up in your eyes deceived you. "oh y/n...please don't cry...i hate seeing you sad."
"why?" you asked before you could stop yourself. it was a valid question, though. you couldn't imagine why it would upset spencer to see you sad, you guys were work friends, sure...but he'd been the one person whose friendship level you'd been unsure of.
his hand came up to your face, cupping your cheek in his palm and using his thumb to wipe away your tear. you were more than confused, wondering why someone with such an aversion to touch, even with the people closest to him, was holding you so tenderly.
"spencer..." you said, your voice shaky from both crying and the feeling of shock that was washing over you. he lifted your face gently, so you were looking directly at him, his eyes boring into yours with such intensity you felt a shiver run down your spine.
"i like you y/n...as more than a friend." his words came out hushed, barely a whisper, but you heard him. loud and clear. your own hand moved to clasp his, your mouth opening and shutting as you tried to think of a response. but you couldn't think of anything... other than one question.
"can i kiss you." you asked, and he understood. knowing this was your way of reciprocating those feelings he'd just confessed to. he smiled at you, wide leaning in slowly. his thumb grazed against your cheek as his lips neared your own. he was so close you could smell the fresh mint on his breath as he spoke.
"anything for the birthday girl."

Things We Know By Heart (Spencer Reid Fluff)
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader teaches Spencer how to slow dance in preparation for his wedding. The only problem? Reader’s in love with Spencer, and she isn’t the bride.
A/N: S/O to Kyla who bullied me throughout all of elementary school. Ik you’ve probably changed since then, but you literally traumatized and tormented me for more than six years of my life. So I felt like including you in this story as, “Kayla,” Spencer’s fiancé. Tehe, I’m petty like that.  Couple: Fem!Reader x Spencer Reid Category: Fluff Word Count: 6.5k
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
I think we’d all like to believe that somewhere out there is our person. And somehow, someway, they’ll get to where they need to go, right where they belong.
With us.
That’s what I’d like to believe.
I’d like to think that no matter what happens along our journeys to each other, we’ll arrive at the same destination regardless.
But that isn’t necessarily true, is it?
Because maybe, my soulmate got lost along the way. They met somebody great, someone they think is their person, and they married that person. They had kids and eventually, grandkids with that person, even though, deep down - they knew it wasn’t right. They stayed with them anyway because their fear of being alone superseded their fear of being with the wrong person for life.
And what am I to do when that happens? When my person finds a different person.
Am I supposed to believe that the universe will be so kind as to give my soulmate the courage to leave their relationship behind and forge a new one with me?
Am I supposed to expect that the world will supply me with another person, the person I’m supposed to marry?
Or do I simply wait for my person to come to the conclusion that they’re meant to be with me after all and my naive entitlement to a soulmate is validated?
Is life really that magical?
This is the story of what happens when your person loves a different person.
∙•○⦾☉☼☉⦾○•∙
With his hand at the nape of my neck to support my head and his other hand flat against the small of my back, he dipped me backward, leaning with me as I arched my back and bent the leg closest to the crowd, pointing my foot to elongate my leg artistically. This was our ending position so I remained in it until the song ended. The two of us bowed to thank the audience and to conclude our performance. Roses fell at our feet while the sound of applause echoed in the room. I was never a fan of being the center of attention, but there was something about this overwhelming praise that was particularly blissful. It was intoxicating.
“I didn’t know you knew how to dance like that.” I gushed to my partner; my cheeks growing pink from the heat and the head rush I got.
He positioned his mouth right beside my ear so I could hear his words clearly over the rowdy cheering. “There’s a lot of things you don’t know about me, Princess.” said Morgan.
A gauntlet formed to clap for us both when we walked off the dance floor. Hand-in-hand, Morgan led me back to the table through the double file line of people. The team howled with excitement when they saw me and Morgan approaching.
“So this is what you two were keeping a secret from us? That you’re dance partners?” JJ had to ask.
“Yep. All those late nights and secret rendezvous.” Morgan said, shimmying his shoulders be suggestive of a sexual innuendo, which I was not a fan of. Out of mock offense, I chucked a small towel at him with a grouchy command to “Shut up!”
He took the towel to the face like a champ, laughing it off and dabbing his sweat away.
“I don’t know who was sexier up there - Princess or my Hubba Hubba!” Garcia squealed pretending to claw at Derek, reeling him over towards her.
“You looked like a natural up there, Y/N. Were you a dancer before?” Prentiss questioned while handing me a glass of water that I desperately gulped down.
“My mom sent me to dance classes as soon as I could walk.” I jokingly explained after gathering my hair into a makeshift ponytail and lifting it off of my neck, cocking my head to the side and fanning the back of my neck to cool down.
“Maybe you should teach Reid how to dance before the wedding. He’s got two left feet and I don’t think he wants Morgan to teach him how to waltz.” JJ quipped, making Derek throw his head back in laughter. The thought of Morgan and Reid slow dancing would truly be something - something hilarious. I laughed, too, until Reid’s voice interrupted me.
“Yeah, that’s actually a really good idea. Would you mind, Y/N? Kayla would be so happy.”
I thought he was joking, but his humorless expression told me otherwise.
“You want me to teach you how to dance?”
He pursed his lips and nodded, not understanding why I was so confused.
“Um . . . yeah. I can do that. Sure.” My tone wasn’t very convincing, but Reid’s optimism made him oblivious to my reluctance. He smiled and hugged me with one arm around my shoulder.
“I have to call Kay and tell her the good news.” Reid dashed away from the table, pulling out his phone to dial his fiancé.
I darted toward JJ with fury and grabbed her by the arm, dragging her into the bathroom for privacy.
“What the hell was that? ‘Oh, Y/N, you should teach him how to dance.’ You know how I feel about Reid!”
Rather than giving me hostility back, she broke into a smile. “Exactly! If you spend more time alone with him, maybe he’ll finally admit to himself that he shouldn’t be marrying Kayla,”
I rolled my eyes and turned my back away from her.
“We all know Spence would be happier with you.”
As JJ spoke, I trudged to the nearest sink, holding onto the sides for stability as the ground below me swayed. She followed me, rubbing up and down my back comfortingly.
“You know how he is. He keeps things to himself, until eventually they’re forced to come out. If you dance with him, maybe he’ll finally tell you he loves you without actually having to say it. Do this for him . . . and for you.” JJ gave me one last pat on the back before exiting the bathroom to leave me to my devices.
Normally, teaching a friend how to slow dance in preparation for his wedding would be sweet. It’d be a selfless gesture and an act of service for him that would show how much love there was in our friendship. In this case though, it was anything but.
For the six months that Spencer and Kayla had been engaged, the team was relentless in trying to end it. I tried to stay out of it in case all hell broke loose, but I couldn’t escape it. No - I was at the very center of it.
Before Reid even knew Kayla existed, he was head-over-heels in love with me. He’d ask me on coffee dates, wait by my desk for me, and he would always try to sit beside me at the round table or on the jet. It was sweet, really, but it could never go anywhere.
I was in a committed relationship with my high school sweetheart Patrick. (Maybe Spencer had a thing for unavailable girls).
I moved in with Patrick after graduating from college, and after years of working in the BAU (and years of Spencer loving me) Pat proposed. At first, being engaged brought me so much joy, but halfway into our engagement, something changed.
I was in Wisconsin, consoling a grieving widow. She was hysterical after I delivered the treacherous news of her husband’s gruesome murder. She eventually calmed down and proceeded to ask me about my engagement when she noticed my ring. I gave her the bare minimum, fabricated a couple things here and there, but then she asked me the million dollar question.
“Are you in love?” Her eyes glimmered with hope.
My immediate answer was a habitual “Yes, of course.” But after seeing how deeply this widow loved her late husband, I couldn’t say in good conscience that that answer was actually true.
That night I went to the hotel and lied on the bed, praying for clarity.
Perhaps I wasn’t actually in love with Patrick. Maybe we’d been together for so long that it just felt safe and comfortable and familiar. Maybe it was the fear of disrupting the arrangement of my life that stopped me from ending things sooner.
The fact of the matter was that I’d only ever known a life loving him, but that didn’t mean I was in love with him. Maybe I was settling for something with Pat, because I wasn’t sure if I could have a better relationship with anyone else. With all these doubts, I needed a sign.
A knock on the door interrupted my inner dialogue.
When I opened it, who else was standing there, but none other than Rossi.
“We need to talk.” He ordered.
He followed me back into the room and sat at the foot of the bed. He said he noticed something was off about me, and I admitted that there was. So that night, I took advice I probably shouldn’t have from the man with multiple failed marriages, but it was a sign - and it was good enough.
When we returned to Quantico, I asked Hotch for some personal time, which he was happy to permit. That same night I went home and broke off the engagement with Patrick.
I felt despicably cold when I watched him tear up and ask me, “Why are you doing this?”
There was truly no concrete moment in our relationship that incited my decision, but it was merely the realization that being with him wasn’t right, because how could I stand there watching him beg for a change of heart but still feel nothing?
Maybe I was much less than not in love. Maybe I didn’t feel a thing for him at all. Not hate. Not empathy. Not love. Just . . . nothing.
Completely indifferent.
Within the week of personal time I took, I spent most of it moving into Rossi’s guest house. After I came back from work, it took all of two hours before someone brought up the absence of the ring that I used to never take off, and I’d assumed they’d already noticed it the moment I walked in - they were just too afraid to ask.
“I ended things with Patrick.” I casually stated, not even looking up from my portfolio to give it the attention it probably deserved.
While the rest of the team’s jaws dropped on the floor, Rossi was fighting a smirk considering this wasn’t news to him and having seen everyone else’s reactions was a priceless moment for him.
There was a brief moment of awkward silence on the jet as the team processed my information, until finally Hotch cleared his throat and started debriefing again. In the seat next to me, Spencer was very poorly hiding his enthusiasm. Hearing I broke off the engagement was like a green light to make his move. And honestly, it was.
So I waited.
And I waited.
And I waited.
Then I waited some more for him to jump at the opportunity.
But he didn’t.
He never did.
Instead, he introduced Kayla into our lives, and eventually, they’d get engaged, too.
I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t developed feelings for Spencer while I expected him to act upon his palpable affection for me. And because of my newfangled feelings, I could never tell another soul that I sincerely believed Spencer got engaged just to spite me - to show me just how painful unrequited love was.
The strangest part of it all, though, was that there was never a moment following the ending of my engagement and the birth of his own that showed me that his feelings went away. He never treated me differently or stopped talking to me. Even in the early stages of his relationship with Kayla, he continued to act like I was the only girl in his life. He was so consistent with his actions that it confused me.
Did he love me or not? And was I in love with him or not?
Evidently, the team seemed to have my answer.
“He loves you and you love him. It’s as simple as that.” Prentiss explained curtly.
Agreeing nods came from JJ, Morgan, and Garcia, who’d abducted me as soon as I exited the elevator that morning and snuck me into Garcia’s Bat Cave for an intervention.
“We need to stop this wedding.” Garcia demanded.
And since that glorious intervention, the team (minus Rossi and Hotch because Rossi seemed genuinely happy for Reid, and Hotch would definitely tell us it wasn’t our place) began trying to put a wedge in the relationship. I, however, made the smart choice not to be involved.
If I was trying to get him to love me, why would I do something that would surely make him hate me like breaking up his engagement? Plus, the blind optimist in me believed that if I was actually meant to be with Spencer, it would happen regardless of Kayla.
So anytime Morgan, JJ, Prentiss, and Garcia suggested something, I refused to participate. I was able to steer clear of any wedding crasher shenanigans up until JJ’s “slow-dance” suggestion.
If Reid knew the true intentions behind these dance classes, he surely wouldn’t be pleased, but clearly - he didn’t. Because when I walked out of the restroom and back to the table, Reid still had a huge grin that took up half of his face, making his eyes look nearly shut.
“Thank you again for doing this.” Reid beamed.
“Of course! What are friends for?”
Morgan, Prentiss, JJ, and Garcia exchanged satirical glances at my choice of words.
What are friends for if not to purposefully set two people up in hopes of ending one person’s betrothal?

Later that weekend . .
“Come in!” I called out, buckling the ankle strap of my heels.
The door opened partially and then all at once to reveal the one and only. I peeked my head out from behind a wall that was obstructing my view of him, immediately noticing a bouquet of lavender wrapped in twine.
“Oh my goodness, what is this?” I asked in pure delight as he handed me the pretty purple flowers.
“It’s a thank-you gift for agreeing to help me.” His lips formed a thin straight line, which was his version of a smile. A smile I appreciated whenever I was lucky enough to have caused it.
“They’re lovely, thank you.” I told him, hugging him briefly before fetching a vase from the kitchen to put them in.
“Oh, good, I’ll tell Kayla you liked them. She’s the one who picked them out.”
The glass vase nearly shattered the moment he said that, but luckily, my reflex skills spared the vessel.
How big of a fool was I for thinking that he gave me flowers out of the kindness of his heart because he knew lavender was my favorite? But then again I probably needed that brutal reminder of why he was here in the first place - for Kayla.
As I put the vase on the kitchen island, I spun around, brandishing a fake smile.
“So we should probably get started. I don’t wanna keep you here for too long.”
“There’s no rush. Kayla won’t be home until late at night.”
I tried not to think of the potential innuendo that lied within his statement, but Spencer wasn’t type to be disloyal, and I wasn’t going to be the woman to make him such a person.
“You look really nice, by the way.” I heard him say from behind me, catching a whiff of his cologne that was intoxicatingly sweet.
I did my best to not take the comment personally and let it get to my head, but I’d be lying if it didn’t elicit any response. I smiled to myself, which thankfully, he couldn’t see since my back was towards him as he followed me into my backyard.
“You smell different.” He added.
“Good different?”
“Yeah, absolutely. Is it a new perfume?”
I furrowed my brows. “No, it’s the same one I’ve been using for years.”
“Interesting,” I could feel him taking in this information, and I could hear the gears in his head turning at an even faster rate to spit out more information. “Did you know that you pick your soulmate by subconsciously reacting to pheromones that transmit their genetic compatibility? Yeah, there’s a relationship between attraction and scent, which dates back to our primal instinct. So if someone smells appealing to you, even if you don’t know it, it could relate to your attraction to them and vice versa.”
“Ah, then maybe I should consider changing my perfume to improve my love life.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. I love the way you smell.”
In the back of my mind lied the unanswered question I neglected to voice, “But do you love me?”
When we reached the backyard, I heard him gasp in awe.
“It looks beautiful, Y/N. You did great.”
Nestled in my backyard was a dark wooden deck, surrounded by plentiful greenery. Lining the perimeter of the shiny wooden deck were asymmetrical rocks, while above us hung strands of fairy lights that cast a sheer golden glow on the entire scene. The ambiance was not for Spencer specifically, but I was happy that he appreciated it nonetheless.
“You ready?”
He signaled yes by putting his thumb up and so it began.
“Alright, so slow dancing can be broken into four easy steps, but first, you gotta know how to hold your partner correctly.”
Spencer and I took a step towards each other, and I could feel the nervous energy radiating off of him. I tried not to call attention to it, so I simply continued with my process. Outstretching my arms to form a T with my body, I guided him verbally.
“So I’m the follower. And you’re the leader. Got it?”
He nodded.
“Leader puts their right hand under the follower's left armpit and cups their hand around the follower's shoulder blade.”
He understood my instructions, and in the most awkward manner possible, he fumbled his way into the right position, albeit, not perfect.
“Now, hold my right hand as high as my eye level without raising my shoulder.”
Spencer was glaringly anxious, so I gave him a word of encouragement. “Hey, don’t be nervous. It’s just me, okay? And you’re doing great.”
I could see the nerves beginning to settle, translating into the conviction with which he took my hand, raising it at the perfect height.
“Great. Just like that.”
My praise brought out that smile in him that only ever came out on rare occasions. The kind where it’s brief, his teeth showing, a light chuckle escapes him, and he’s looking down as if he’s too shy to look at me.
“Okay, step two is basic footwork. Leader starts with their left foot and takes a step to the left. And then your right foot is going to meet your left foot and tap. The count is one-two.”
I watched as Spencer tried to process what I was saying.
“Do you want me to demonstrate first? And then you follow?”
He nodded rapidly as if saying yes wouldn’t be enough to communicate how much he needed me to lead. We broke apart so that I could turn my back towards him. I felt a cold draft blow under my dress as I spun on the ball of my feet, making my skirt flutter upwards majestically.
I felt him watching.
“Alright, so I’ll start and then you can catch on. It goes one-two.”
Left foot step. Right foot tap.
“Then three-four.”
Left foot step. Right foot tap.
“Then to the right this time. Five-six.”
Right foot step. Left foot tap.
“Seven-eight.”
Right foot step. Left foot tap.
“And back again. One-two. Three-four. Five-six. Seven-eight.”
My eight count continued until the click of my heels on the patio was joining by the sound of Spencer’s feet shuffling behind me. I knew if I turned around to check on him, it would only psych him out and make him more nervous, so I stayed facing forward so he wouldn’t feel that I was scrutinizing his technique.
After a minute or so of following me, I spun back around, catching his lingering stare in the region of my hips. He tried to play it off and pretend he wasn’t, but I felt it.
“You did really well tonight. I’m proud of you. I think that’s a good place to stop for today.”
He thanked me with another hug, the kind where we nuzzled his face in the crook of my neck.
God, I could feel him breathing on my shoulder.
I tried not to not to let myself indulge in it, reasoning that this was just a way for one friend to thank another, but I couldn’t help myself when the hug lasted longer than it should’ve. I tightened my embrace around him, drawing him in closer, and shutting my eyes as if taking my sense of sight away would heighten my sense of touch and magnify this feeling I never wanted to end.
“You take care, okay?” I said, rubbing my hand up and down his back to signal we should pull away, a signal he understood.
I was the first to walk away, merely because of the worry that I might sooner cry if I had to stay under these lights with him a moment longer.
I wasn’t sure I could do this again unless he was mine. Otherwise, I’d just be under the stars, dancing with the love of my life that I couldn’t have - feeling that feeling again, and not being able to act on it.
Is this what happens when your person loves somebody else?
∙•○⦾☉☼☉⦾○•∙
I know I said I couldn’t do it, but I did it anyway.
I guess that’s what love is. Doing things you don’t want to do because your care for the other person surpasses the discomfort. True love makes you do things like that, even if they aren’t in your best interest.
When he came over the next night, we danced again. Undoubtedly, he stumbled - even came close to falling - and yet, I fell in love all over again. After that, it got harder to separate dancing from my feelings.
The next day, we had a case. He came to my hotel room and we danced in the dim golden light of the hotel room’s chandelier. God, it was so ambient and romantic, I think I fell even harder for him - if that was even possible.
From then on, every time we were in the same place, he leapt at the opportunity to dance with me.
“Guys, look what I learned last night! Come, Y/N! Come on, come on.”
He waved me over eagerly with his hand, even helping me out of my seat in the round table just to speed up the process. All too excitedly, he assumed the leader’s position, and he danced me around the entire conference room in front of our coworkers. He spun me around the table, he dipped me in the doorway, he held me in his arms by the glass board.
Can you really blame me for falling in love?
“Wow, Y/N! I’m impressed. You really whipped him into shape.” JJ remarked with a clap.
I hid behind a faux smile, but Spencer was too elated to recognize the deceit. He was like that now. Maybe love made him more of a fool, more naive and blissfully unaware, whereas love made me more devoted and cognizant.
It went on like that for weeks. Practicing whenever and wherever we could.
He’d pull me into the hotel lobby at midnight to dance - not even batting an eye at the looming presence of the receptionist.
He’d ask me to come to his apartment and we’d dance in his living room or in the narrow hallway, just for fun.
When we were at Rossi’s, he’d drag me to the kitchen, with Rossi’s gentle music playing in the background, and we’d sway by the fireplace sometimes.
We danced once in the elevator when it got stuck. I never thought he’d be so fearless to do that, but he looked like he was genuinely enjoying himself, almost like he didn’t even notice we were stuck in an elevator.
While we waited for the jet, we’d danced on the tarmac, looking like a moving bundle of clothes, our movements stifled by our thick peacoats, layers of clothes, and scarfs.
After a dinner during cases, when we’d split a cab back to the hotel, he’d get me to dance on the sidewalk, even convincing me not to pay attention to the onlookers on the street, the honking cars, or the confused pedestrians. I was always embarrassed to be in the spotlight, but somehow with him, it was easy. It felt like it was just the two of us, dancing under that streetlight.
I never understood why people wanted to live in a moment forever, but for the first time that night, I did. That was a moment I wanted to freeze in time. I wish I could’ve stayed there forever. There in that moment, it really felt like it was our own little world. It was easy to believe we’d end up together, and we were the ones getting married, and we were in love.
But again, that was in that moment. In that singular, fleeting moment. And then life moved on, whether or not I was ready for it to.
The day of rehearsals inevitably came, and I wasn’t originally supposed to be at the wedding rehearsal since I wasn’t part of the ceremony, but Spencer asked me to be there, deliberately neglecting to tell me that the reason he wanted me to come was so that I could fill in for Kayla, which had I known that, I would’ve certainly declined.
When I walked in, the team was all there, sitting in the pews, with their heads turning to me where I was standing at the entrance of the church. It felt like an eerie nightmare that I was living out where I was Spencer’s bride walking down the aisle, and this was our wedding. I couldn’t tell you what was so nightmarish about it - probably because none of it felt right - but I was sick to my stomach when Spencer gestured for me to meet him at the altar.
“What’s going on?”
“Kayla had a last minute dress alteration in Norfolk and got stuck in traffic. She won’t make it for this rehearsal, but she’ll be there in time for the dinner rehearsal.”
“So why am I here?”
“I wanted to practice my vows on you, if that’s okay.”
I gulped hard, trying to swallow the lump in my throat to open up my suddenly-closing airway.
“Um, I don’t really know if -”
“Please, Y/N. I’m just nervous that I might mess up-”
How could I say no? True love makes you do crazy things, even if they aren’t in your best interest, right?
I reluctantly agreed.
Spencer’s hands were trembling and I could see it by the way his notecards were shaking, even from the fact that he brought notecards alone, and that he didn’t already memorize his vows. I wanted to put my hands around his and hold them to settle his unsteadiness, but I knew that wasn’t my place. I figured my words would do a better job at not crossing a boundary that was already crossed.
“Hey,” I comfortingly whispered. “It’s just me, okay?” Calling back those words from the first time we danced months ago. “You don’t need those notecards. Just speak from the heart.”
And sure enough, his heart spoke.
“When people used to tell me stories about what love felt like and what is what, they always said they fell in love with that person. Like it was sudden and all at once, but with you - I walked into love with you. With my eyes wide open, choosing to take each and every step along the way. I never believed in fate or destiny, but after I met you, I finally believed. I believed that we are only fated to do the things that we’d choose anyway. And I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality. I’d find you and I’d choose you.”
My breath hitched as I got lost in his eyes and how they were looking right at me, completely unmindful of the way everyone around us saw how he spoke to me.
I think he even got lost too, because what he said next, didn’t even seem to register in his mind before it came out of his mouth.
“I love you . . . Y/N.”
Gasps rang through the church, ricocheting off the high ceiling, and in that moment I knew, I knew he was going to kiss me.
He lunged forward in the heat of the moment. Clearly not thinking straight, he held my face in his hands, and I swear to God, I could’ve kissed him back.
I would’ve.
“Spencer?”
Every single head in the church turned toward the small voice, too distinct to misplace.
“Kayla, wait!’
And there I stood, alone at the front of the altar, watching him run after her.
∙•○⦾☉☼☉⦾○•∙
I sat by my phone the entire afternoon, waiting for someone - anyone - to update me. No one ever ended up texting or calling, so I figured the dinner rehearsal wasn’t cancelled. At least, in that case, my dress didn’t go to waste.
After spending an ungodly amount of time curling my hair and putting on my makeup, even achieving a smoky eye look, I finally slipped on my navy-blue, satin, floor length dress, donning nude heels and a dainty gold necklace with a single diamond pendant that laid right on my sternum.
It was a shame that this was a moment where I should’ve felt at my prettiest, and yet, I’d never felt so ugly.
I was riddled with the guilt of knowing I would’ve kissed Spencer if Kayla hadn’t walked in. I felt even worse that I was so consumed by his speech that I didn’t even hear her come in.
How long had she been standing there? Long enough to watch what I knew everyone else saw? These questions never left me. Not even when I pulled into the site of the dinner rehearsal.
Clutching the front of my dress to walk without resistance, I came to the entrance, and opened the door to reveal . . . nothing.
Staff was removing chairs and tables.
Waiters were collecting plates and utensils.
And Spencer was standing in the very middle of the empty room, watching it all happen silently, like he was just the shell of a man.
“Spencer!” I called out from the entrance, in no hurry to meet him at the middle of the room. He turned on his heels, with his hands sheepishly shoved into his pockets.
“Gosh, I’m sorry, Y/N. I should’ve called to let you know it got cancelled, but um, Kayla broke my phone.”
“Well, it’s time you got a new phone anyway.” I chuckled, which thankfully earned a chuckle from him, too.
“What happened, Spencer?” My voice was quiet, as if it was any decibel higher it would sound more like a scold than genuine concern.
“She, um, she told me she needed some time to think. And I, I told her to come to the rehearsal dinner if she still wanted to get married and,” He mirthlessly chuckled. “Well, you already know.” His words were chosen carefully to deliberately avoid what he hadn’t yet come to terms with.
She didn’t come.
I wasn’t yet sure whether or not to console him or to berate him for what he almost did, but I chose the former.
“I’m so sorry, Spence.”
He looked up from the ground, still managing to avoid my gaze, by looking up at the ceiling, and pretty much everywhere my face wasn’t.
“I understand if you want to leave right now. I just need to pay the owner and I’ll be out of here.”
I shook my head instantly. “No, I’ll be right here. If you want me to be.”
He bit his lip to stop a sob from escaping. “Yeah,” He nodded, cowering his head. “I’d like that a lot.”
As soon as I saw his cheeks get red, I took it as a cue to approach him and hug him. He was grateful for my compassionate touch, immediately opening up his arms to hug me back. His embrace around me was needy and desperate, and it felt like he was clawing at my dress, acting out of anger that the fabric was stopping us from being that much closer.
With his shoulder digging into the spot right underneath my chin, it was hard to utter the words, “You look really handsome, by the way.” I said, finally acknowledging his light beige suit and white button up shirt.
“Thanks.” I heard him mumble into my shoulder.
“Kayla doesn’t know what she’s missing.”
To my surprise, he didn’t recoil, flinch, or so much as react to her name. Instead, he simply pulled away, wiping the moisture under his nose, and straightening out his suit.
“We should . . . we should probably talk about what happened earlier, right?”
I sighed and shook my head. “Not if you don’t want to. We can save that conversation for another day.”
He looked appreciative of my avoidance, but I knew he wanted to talk about it.
“Hey, excuse me,” He stopped a staff member by clutching their arm gently. “Do you mind, actually? Leaving two seats behind.”
The staff member complied, doing as he said, and leaving two chairs behind, setting one right across from the other. I took my seat, and Spencer took his.
“I probably shouldn’t have spoken from the heart, huh?” He joked, finally seeing the humor in his situation.
“No, it was good that you did.”
“You think so?”
“Definitely. I think Kayla would’ve appreciated it.” All too quickly he responded with, “I wasn’t talking about Kayla.”
I was talking about you, his somber eyes said.
I looked away from his gaze immediately, trying to find a reprieve from the conversation that I was doing my best to avoid.
“It was a really good speech. It sounded so natural. Like something you knew by heart.”
“Something I knew by heart?” He didn’t seem to understand what I meant.
“Yeah, some things we just know by heart. Like the lyrics to our favorite song, or a recipe, how to dance,” We both chuckled at the reference. “Or . . . how to love.”
“Do you think we know who to love by heart or do you think we make that choice ourselves?”
“I think it’s both. I think we can’t control the person we’re meant to love. That, by some miracle, we’re handed this person that complements us better than anyone else. But I also think it’s our choice on whether or not we pick them. Maybe we aren’t willing to stand the test of time and wait for our person, so we don’t pick them and settle for someone else. Or maybe we do pick them and we live out the rest of our lives together. I think that’s what makes love so special. It’s a person choosing you over and over again.”
Isn’t that what we all want? To feel chosen?
“And what if we make the wrong decision? What if we’ve met who we’re supposed to love, but we chose to love another?” His eyes were searching within mine for the words that I wasn’t saying out loud. Out of fear that my eyes might expose me to Spencer, I looked away.
“I think -”
Spencer cut me off. “Look at me.”
My head didn’t move, but I shifted my gaze just as he wanted.
“When two people are meant to be, nothing and no one can end them. They may get lost a time or two on their journey, but true, real love will always conquer. Nothing can compete with them. Others can only attempt to fill a void. And eventually, the two will be reunited. That’s the beauty of true love; you always end up with the right person, at the right time, regardless of any other factor.”
Quiet fell upon us two after I said my piece. My breathing slowed down and the knot in my stomach came undone. The lump in my throat disappeared.
All my bodily barriers broke down. There were no more emotional walls up between the two of us anymore. I was completely vulnerable - nothing to hide me. Not even my eyelids could hide the windows of my soul. Spencer had already seen into them.
He saw my soul, my secrets.
“Dance with me.” He extended his hand in the air between us two. With no hesitation, I accepted his offer and followed his lead. He’d never danced so naturally before. Somehow, his stiffness had withered away. The thick tension that used to loom in the air above us two dissipated. Something new replaced the contents of the atmosphere.
Love.
Unbounded.
Unrestrained.
Unbridled.
Limitless love.
Spencer drew me in closer so my head could lay on his chest. Previously, I was looking at his face, but now the view was of our connected hands. My fingers were intertwined with his, and I didn’t even notice how his thumb was rubbing small circles on the back of my hand until I saw it with my own eyes.
Had he always done that, but I couldn’t feel it until I saw it for myself? If so, what else had he been doing that I couldn’t feel?
“Loving you.”
I removed my head from his shoulder after hearing him answer the question that I pondered silently, wondering if suddenly just acquired the superpower of telepathy.
“What?”
“Loving you. That’s all I know how to do by heart.”
A wave of relief came over me when I realized he hadn’t read my mind, he was just simply adding to our conversation from before.
“That’s not true,” I mirthlessly chuckled. “There’s lots you know how to do. You know thousands of chess permutations, you know how to geographically profile - you know how to dance now.” I countered playfully.
He shook his head. “I know how to do those things, but sometimes, none of it makes sense. I used to lose matches against Gideon, sometimes the comfort zone is inaccurate, and until today, I couldn’t dance very well,” He chortled. “But loving you. That always made sense. It never failed me or disappointed me and it’s so all-consuming that if I try to love anyone else - it just doesn’t make sense.”
Of all the words in my vocabulary, each of them were failing me. I was rendered speechless. Spencer cleared his throat and looked away for a moment, before finding the nerve to say it.
“I choose you.” He proclaimed.
So, I was right.
There are some things we know by heart.
Lyrics to our favorite song.
A recipe.
How to dance . . . how to love.
And who to choose.
“I choose you, too, Spencer.”
. . . So to answer my question from before, is life really that magical? . . .

Anatomy Lesson
Reader has some sex trouble, out of all people to ask for help, she asks Spencer Reid.
Requested: Nope
Prompts: Nada
Word Count: 5.2K
Warnings: It’s pretty much just straight smut
“Good sex is like good bridge. If you don’t have a good partner, you’d better have a good hand.” -- Mae West
Your head fell back against the plush pillow with an annoyed groan. You threw the vibrator to the side, watching it roll across the bed, once again you were unable to achieve an orgasm. It was almost always like this, even in past relationships you found yourself having to often fake orgasms. You definitely didn’t have a low libido, you considered your sex drive to be slightly above average, but an orgasm for you was hardly ever attainable, especially not solo.
Maybe it was the fact you had always been a sucker for rough sex, it was easier for you to come while being totally dominated. All of your past relationships had been fairly vanilla, they either weren’t into it or still couldn’t get you off.
You were desperate for an orgasm at this point, were you doing something wrong, was something wrong with you? You had to find out, you had exhausted all of your options. There was one thing left to try, you had to ask Spencer, I mean, he was your best friend, and a genius, he would know. He wouldn’t find it totally weird, right?
You had decided Friday would be the perfect day to ask him, Friday, at the end of the day, where you could avoid him until Monday if the conversation headed South.
“Hey, uh, Spence?” You questioned, luckily, by the grace of God, you were the last two packing up to head home after a long week.
“Hm?” A sugar-crashed Spencer answered.
“I have a question, it’s sort of-Oh God how do I word this?” There was no backing out now, you had to ask.
Spencer stopped what he was doing, his brows furrowed in concern. He laid his files onto his desk, walking around it briskly towards you. “What is it? Did something happen?”
“No-no-I just, I was just wondering” you took a deep breath, letting your words flow together as fast as possible “how unlikely is it for someone to be unable to achieve an orgasm during sex?”
Spencer’s face flushed slightly, automatically stuffing his hands into his pockets, a habit you had noticed he did when he was nervous or uncomfortable. “I-uh-well, I mean, statistically during- uhm, intercourse, only around 20% of women have an...o-orgasm, and around 5% of women never have orgasms during intercourse.”
You nodded your head, keeping your eyes trained on your desk, straightening a set of files. Well, that was good to know, there definitely wasn’t something wrong with you then. Maybe you just needed a man's touch, and, yes, that is a horrible thing to say. Usually, you weren’t so dependent, especially dependent on a man alone, but you needed some form of relief, and if a male could give it to you, then you would take it.
Spencer cleared his throat, “are you, uh, having t-trouble?”
For some reason you didn’t want to answer the question, the topic was already embarrassing enough, and admitting aloud that you were having trouble orgasming doubled that embarrassment. “Y/N?” Spence’s tentative voice brought you out of your stupor.
Huffing, you grabbed the files shoving them into your bag and throwing it over your shoulder. You turned, continuing to look everywhere except at Spencer, beginning your trek to your car.
You were halfway to the elevator when Spencer caught up to you, his hand coming to lay on your shoulder. “Y/N, It’s nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, it’s quite normal, especially for someone who isn’t in a relationship.”
You pushed your shoulder back, moving away from his touch. “Let’s not talk about it, I shouldn’t have even asked, it was a stupid question.” You stepped into the elevator, Spencer hot on your trail.
“It’s not a stupid question, Y/N, it’s perfectly normal. Out of curiosity, are you just-is it just-vaginal penetration?” The elevator doors shut, and you were regretting ever asking the question.
“Nope, Spencer, it’s not.” You huffed. It shouldn’t be this uncomfortable to talk about your sex life, but this was Spencer we’re talking about. Spencer was practically asexual!
“Maybe you should try relaxing, your mind at least, sometimes if you’re distracted by other things it’ll become hard to achieve an orgasm. It’s actually the opposite for your body, a lot of women report feeling tension, especially in their abdomen and legs during or before an orgasm.” Spencer stated, watching as you walked out of the elevator, following after you.
Since when did Spencer get so open talking about sex? Sure he was a bit hesitant, but, to be honest, you didn’t even know if he was going to answer, let alone in this detail. “Thanks, Spence.” You said curtly, it was a little wrong for you to be so upset when you were the one who asked the question, but you were already stressed enough.
Here you were, one warm bath later, laying on your bed, butt naked, once again.
Still, you couldn’t orgasm. Shamefully, you had even gone as far as choking yourself, playing out one of the dirtiest fantasies you could think of in your head. When that didn’t work you switched to visuals, which definitely brought you closer to the edge, but wasn’t enough to push you over into the sweet bliss
Surprisingly Spencer didn’t say anything about your awkward encounter on Monday, or the rest of the week, until Friday. Once again, you and Spencer were the last two, Spencer had been going over the files from the most recent case, and you were filling out some paperwork, trying to get ahead of the load Hotch was going to give you next week.
“Spencer, it’s over. She’s safe, and that bastard is off to prison.”
He sighed deeply in response, one of his long slender fingers pressed thoughtfully against his lips. “I just don’t understand how I didn’t see it sooner.”
You scoffed, “Spencer, you may be a genius, but no one expects you to know everything, you don’t have to know everything. Spence,  you’re going to kill yourself trying to figure out everything. You’re always so stressed, you just need to relax, let go, read a book, or listen to some music, do something that calms you.”
Spencer turned to you, his hazel eyes bearing into yours, “speaking of stressful, how’s your, uhm, problem?” His hands stuffed into his pockets comfortably.
You let out a short chuckle, as uncomfortable as talking about your sex life with Spencer was, the sight of Spencer flustered and stuttering was definitely humorous. “Spencer, stop trying to distract me, you need to stop stressing over closed cases.”
“So, you haven’t cum yet?” Spencer questioned, pulling his hands out of his pockets.
You swear your eyes widened to the size of dinner plates, Spencer had never been that forward, especially not talking about sex, and especially not with you. Your mouth fell open, not completely sure how to respond.
“That was too forward, wasn’t it?” Spencer questioned, realization seeping through his voice.
You nodded your head, mouth still hung open.
“And you tried relaxing, but also simultaneously letting yourself be tense?”
“Yes, Spence.”
He went silent for a while, turning around and beginning to gather his things.
And you thought the conversation had ended, and he had decided to drop it, and hopefully go home and relax, but alas, you were wrong.
“You know, I could always, uhm, help you, i-if you want.” Spencer stuttered, his face flushing with an awkward smile.
At first, you thought you were hearing things, that sentence had not come out of Spencer’s mouth. You didn’t even know how to respond, he obviously wasn’t joking. I mean, sure, Spencer was very attractive, but you had never really thought of him as anything more than a friend.
“W-what do you mean?” You knew what he meant, at least you thought you did, but you didn’t want to risk being wrong.
Spencer grabbed his satchel, placing it across his body, “I mean I could help you, you know, help you, uh, o-orgasm.”
Holy Shit. You were right.
“W-we don’t have to, obviously, I just-it sounds frustrating, and I just-I want to help.” Spencer’s hands wrapped around the strap of his satchel, watching you with wary eyes.
“No-no, I get it, that-that’s very sweet, Spence, I just-won’t that change our friendship?”
Spencer shrugged, “not necessarily, Y/N, you’re my best friend, I want to help you. Plus it’ll be good for me too like you said, I need some sort of stress relief.”
You smiled, how on earth did you get so lucky to have a best friend like him, “thanks, Spence, that means a lot.”
“Just think about it,” Spencer said with a smile.
You nodded your head, turning to begin packing up your things.
You ran your hand over your sweaty face, pushing aside some hair. Still, nothing. At this point, you were very much ready to accept Spencer’s offer. Even if it did change your relationship.
Your eyes glared at the screen of your phone, the 11:04 seemingly taunting you, would he even be awake? I mean, it wouldn’t hurt to try
Y/N: Are you up?
You hit send, laying your phone next to you, you didn’t really expect Spencer to answer, at least not immediately, he rarely ever used his phone. But, like a lot of things lately, you were wrong, because your phone buzzed beside you.
Spencer: Unfortunately, I can’t seem to sleep. I’m assuming the same for you?
Sighing, you formulated a reply.
Y/N: Unfortunately, you probably know why…
His reply was almost immediate as if he was sitting there waiting for you to answer.
Spencer: My offer still stands.
You ran your hands over your face for what seems like the millionth time. Were you really going to do this, let Spencer come over and fuck you?
Y/N: How fast can you be here?
Yes. Yes, you were.
You paced back and forth in front of your door. You had brushed your teeth, and hair, luckily, you had already shaved today. Were you supposed to wear something, like lingerie? Was he even going to touch you, or just tell you what to do? What if he couldn’t make you cum? What if he wasn’t rough enough?
Knock, knock, knock. Three soft wraps on the other side of the door. Spencer.
You sighed, no turning back now. You moved, unlocking the door, taking a deep breath before opening it.
There Spencer stood, clad in some simple plaid pajama pants, and a grey T-shirt. It was unusual to see him so casually dressed.
“Hey” you greeted shyly.
“Hey,” Spencer said, stepping into your apartment.
“S-So how does this work? How do you want to do this?” You questioned, gulping nervously.
Spencer chuckled surprisingly calm, “We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, Y/N. This is about you, helping you get some relief.”
You smiled, biting your lip slightly, you had zero clue where Spencer’s newfound confidence was coming from, but you were enjoying it. “Well, I don’t know, I’m pretty much okay with anything, I guess.”
“How do you usually like to have sex, rough, soft, both? What gets you off Y/N, what turns you on?” Spencer stepped closer to you, his voice dropping an octave.
Your breath hitched in your throat, who knew Spencer had such a dirty mouth? “I-uh, well…” you trailed off.
Spencer moved forward once again, his large hand pushing a strand of hair out of your face, “something tells me you like it rough, you like to be dominated, totally fucked into oblivion.”
The room seemed to spin, and your lip caught between your teeth, at this point, you weren’t even sure if this was Spencer? Had you just let a random man into your apartment? Did an alien infest Spencer’s body and now it was here to kill you?
Spencer tucked the strand of hair behind your ear, but his hand continued moving, playing with the hair at the back of your head. Then in one swift tug, your head was yanked back, neck exposed. You let out a yelp, digging your teeth deeper into your lip. “Am I right?” He questioned, his hazel eyes now a deep brown with lust. His other hand ran a finger up your neck, watching you shiver.
You didn’t answer, you couldn’t, somehow, it almost felt foreign to move your mouth, if he didn’t have you convinced before, he definitely did now. Maybe Spencer could make you cum, and maybe multiple times.
He tugged on your hair harshly once again, causing you to release a low groan. Spencer leaned in closer, placing his head next to your ear, whispering lowly “in case you can’t tell, I’m looking for an answer, sweetheart.” His finger trailed to the base of your neck, flattening his palm to run it up to your neck once again, his hand wrapping around the sides of your neck.
You whimpered lightly, letting your hands grip his wrist for support. Without thinking you breathed out a response, “yes, yes sir, you’re right.”
Spencer pulled his head back from your face, his dark eyes making contact with yours. “Mhm, good girl.” Spencer’s voice was low, and gravely, obviously, he seemed to enjoy this just as much as you did. His hand released your neck, shifting slightly so he could run his thumb over your bottom lip.
Once again, almost out of instinct, you took his thumb into your mouth, swirling your tongue around it. If someone had asked what your plans were for tonight, never in your life would you think to respond “inviting Spencer Reid over to my house at 11 o'clock at night, then letting him fuck me.”
Spencer groaned lightly, pulling his thumb out of your mouth, dragging it down your chin, wiping off the saliva. He brought his other hand up to cup your face gently, his eyes darting down to your lips. Taking the initiative, you stood on your tiptoes, bringing your lips up to his soft pink ones. Your mouths moved in sync as if this were an everyday occurrence.
You both pulled away, chests heaving for air. “Y-you’re sure about this?” Spencer questioned, concern filling his eyes.
You giggled, Spencer would never not be a gentleman, “I’m sure, Spence. I need this, and you need some stress relief, and if it’ll benefit us both, why not?”
Spencer chuckled lightly, “okay.”
Smiling, “okay” you responded.
“Is there-you know, anything that I shouldn’t do, things you aren’t comfortable with?”
You let yourself think for a moment, was there anything you weren’t comfortable with? You were very explorational with your sex life, and you trusted Spencer. “Not really, Spence. Just, do what you think will make me cum.”
Once again, the predatory look clouded over Spencer’s eyes, his lips curling into a smirk. “That's not my name, sweetheart.” He growled.
Your eyes fluttered shut, your thighs rubbing together for some sort of friction. “Sorry...sir.” You were slightly hesitant, you had already called him sir, but you weren’t sure if it was the name he was looking for.
A smack rang through the air and a stinging spread through your ass. Your body jerked forward pressing further into his, “shit! Sorry, daddy!” You cried, your eyes snapping open to watch his reaction. The daddy had slipped out, you didn’t know if Spencer would be weirded out, or into it, hopefully, the latter.
Spencer’s eyes widened, apparently, that wasn’t the answer he was looking for. Before you could correct yourself, one of his hands gripped your hips, roughly pulling you into him, and the other pulled your head to him, smashing his lips against yours. You moaned into the kiss, your hands wrapping around his torso, trailing up his back and into his long hair, tugging at it. He groaned against your lips, his head falling back slightly, breaking the kiss.
“Fuck, Y/N, not what I was looking for, but, I definitely enjoyed it.” Spencer groaned out, his hands traveling your sides. Yet, you longed for more, you longed to feel his skin against yours, the weight of his hips between your legs.
You peppered kisses over his neck, relishing in the way his hands felt against your body. Spencer groaned lightly as you sucked at a spot at the base of his neck. His hands dug into your hips harshly, and you whimpered slightly at the pain. With a rough shove, Spencer pushed you away from him, both of you panting.
“I want you on the bed, naked, don’t touch yourself, just wait for daddy,” Spencer said, his voice dripping with an authority he only ever used in the interrogation room, and God did you love it.
You nodded your head in understanding, turning to walk to the bedroom. Once inside, the nerves hit, you were really doing this, you were actually going to fuck Spencer, and hopefully cum. Your shirt hit the floor first, the cool air causing your nipples to harden since you had opted not to wear a bra. Your leggings came off next, with only a little struggle due to the slight sweat that came with being aroused. Lastly, your thin lace thong, which you made sure to drop a little closer to the doorway, just so Spencer would notice it first thing when he walked into the room.
Spencer walked down the short hallway, the wooden floorboards creaking under his feet, alerting you of his approach. Quickly you sat on the bed, both legs and arms crossed in a means of covering yourself. As excited as you were to cum, that didn’t knock the anxiety of Spencer seeing your naked body.
Spencer appeared in the doorway, his teeth immediately biting down on his lip at the sight of you. He took slow steps towards you, maintaining eye contact the whole way. He crouched in front of you so his face was level with yours. His hands ran over your arms, uncrossing them gently before doing the same with your legs. “God, you’re so beautiful.”
A blush covered your face, it was incredible how quickly he could switch from domineering to sweet. Spencer leaned in, peppering kisses over your neck. His arms were placed on either side of you, his mouth working sinfully.
Your head leaned back with a breathy moan, giving him better access to your neck. Spencer's mouth worked over your collarbone, beginning to leave open-mouthed kisses in the valley of your breasts. “Such pretty tits,” he mumbled against your skin, letting one of his hands reach up and palm your breast. Your back arched into his touch, his warm skin against yours.
You brought your head upright, watching as he took one of your perky nipples into his pretty pink lips. “Fuck, Spence” you moaned out, placing your hand on the back of his head to run through his hair. Spencer’s teeth lightly grabbed your nipple, pulling his head back, tugging sharply. “Shit! Daddy, I meant daddy.” You corrected breathily.
Spencer’s mouth released your nipple, his head coming up to yours for a sloppy kiss. He pulled back, a trail of saliva connecting the two of you. He chuckled lightly, swiping his thumb across your bottom lip to break it. “You’re sure you’re okay with this?”
You smiled, could this man get any more polite? “Yes, please just do something.” You begged.
“Ask and you shall receive” Spencer answered, a hint of playfulness in his voice. He moved slightly, situating himself on his knees. You bit your lip softly, wishing this intimate moment could last forever. His large hands rested on your knees, spreading your legs. He chuckled, “Mhm, so wet for me and I haven’t even touched you.”
Your head tilted back slightly, ecstasy running through your body at his words. One of his hands trailed up your leg, stopping to rub soft circles around your clit. You moaned lightly, one of your hands placed behind you to keep your body upright, the other on the back of Spencer’s head playing with his hair. His pace sped up slightly, and you bucked your hips forward, aching for more. “Please, please, I need more.” You whined.
“Patience, love” despite his words, his pace sped up again, and your head tilted further back with a loud moan. “There you go, sweetheart, enjoy it.” He removed his thumb, and before you could complain, it was quickly replaced by his tongue, kitten licking your clit slowly.
You groaned lightly, the hand in his hair tightening its grip. “Yes, daddy, fuck.”
Spencer’s tongue sped up, his eyes gazing up at you, watching you squirm with pleasure. Spencer’s hand on your knee trailed up your thigh, his fingertips running up and down your lips.
You looked down at him, a whimper escaping your mouth at the sight. His hand parted your lips, pushing a finger into your pussy. “Fuck, yes, Spencer.” He didn’t correct you this time, instead, he wrapped his lips around your clit, sucking lightly, while his finger began slow strokes in and out of your cunt.
A loud moan escaped your lips, your hips rocking lightly against his face. The tip of his tongue ran lightly over your clit, and his finger picked up the pace. “Mhm, yes, daddy, just like that.” Your hand tugged harshly at his hair, and you were sure it had to hurt.
Spencer’s lips released your clit with a pop, “are you close, love?” He questioned, a lust-hungry look in his eyes.
You nodded your head vigorously, “yes, so, close, please-just-please.” You could feel it, the knot building rapidly in your stomach, the tension in your legs. Spencer slipped another finger into your pussy, crooking them slightly, his pace becoming ruthless, hitting a spot inside of you that you didn’t know existed. His lips wrapped around your clit again, this time sucking harshly, watching as your thighs shook around his head and your back arched, your hips thrusting into his face.
You let out a loud cry, your eyes rolling into the back of your head as you came. Your toes curled, breath hitched, and your thighs clamped down on Spencer’s head, whimpers and moans leaving your mouth. It was like pure bliss, and you had never been more thankful for Spencer in your life.
Spencer’s mouth and fingers worked you through your orgasm, only slowing down when your chest began to heave for the breath you lacked. His lips popped off your clit, and his drenched fingers slid out of your pussy. “You made a mess, baby.”
You looked down at him, and never had you seen a more beautiful sight, his hair was tousled, and his chin was covered in your arousal. He brought his fingers to his lips, taking them in his mouth, cleaning off your arousal. You moaned at the sight alone, still slightly out of breath. Spencer pulled his fingers out of his mouth, placing his hands at your sides. He pushed himself back up onto his feet. “You want me to fuck you?” He asked, his voice low and strained, you could see why his erection was visible through his pants.
Your mouth hung open, you had just come, but somehow, your body longed for more, to feel his cock inside you. You nodded your head, your eyes pleading with his. His hand trailed up your side, sliding over your breast and up to your neck, choking you lightly. “Use your words, sweetheart.” He teased.
“Yes, yes, please fuck me, daddy.” You squirmed in his grip, body aching for him.
The hand on your neck pushed you back so you were lying flat against the bed. Spencer released your neck, quickly beginning to shed his clothes. You watched with hooded eyes, your thighs rubbing together for some friction. Once he was fully unclothed, he was on you, his mouth catching yours in a feverish kiss. Your hands wrapped around his torso, nails clawing down his back. He groaned at the pain, “ready for me to fuck you?”
“Yes! Yes, fuck me!” You groaned, reaching your hand in between the two of you to pump his cock. He moaned loudly in your ear, and you swear it was like you had died and gone to heaven. In one swift motion, he snapped his hips forward, burying his cock in you. You yelped, your eyes rolling into the back of your head. Your nails scratched down his back once again as he bottomed out, slamming back into you setting a brutal pace.
“Fuck, you’re so tight for me, so perfect.” He groaned out. He stopped momentarily, his hands grabbed your thighs, throwing both of your legs over his shoulders. He pounded into you, this time balls deep. Your hands left his back, moving to grab your breasts, mouth falling open in a silent scream.
His hand shot up, wrapping around your neck lightly, causing your already dizzy head to spin more. Groans and curses left Spencer’s mouth, a thin sheen of sweat coating his tan skin. He looked like a God above you, and you had no idea how you got so lucky as to fuck him.
“Harder” you groaned out. Your hips thrust up to meet his, both of you working aggressively towards your orgasms. Spencer complied, his head falling back with a groan as he rammed into you. You screamed, eyes crossing as his cock brushed over your g-spot, your cunt clamping down onto his cock. “Fuck! Right there, Spencer, God, yes!”
“Oh, God, Y/N, such a perfect little slut for me.” He growled, his breath coming out in short pants. Incomprehensible moans and cries of Spencer's name left your lips.
Your hand on your breast crept up to Spencer’s hand around your neck, wrapping around his wrist. “I’m so close” you managed to groan out.
“Fuck, me too.” Spencer moaned, his voice deep and gravely. Your skin slapped against his with each thrust, the sound filling your bedroom. “Rub your clit” Spencer commanded, his hand held your hip in a harsh grip, which would definitely leave bruises.
You nodded, as best as you could with his large hand wrapped around your neck. You reached your hand down, using two fingers to rub harsh circles on your swollen clit. “I-I’m gonna cum.”
Spencer moaned above you, his eyes shutting, and his teeth biting down on his perfect lips. “Fuck, cum, cum for me.” He leaned closer into you, his swollen mouth capturing yours in a kiss. You pressed your lips desperately against his, teeth clashing sloppily.
You broke the kiss with a moan, your head falling back against the bed, and your back arching. The hand on his wrist squeezed harder, “tighter, tighter.” You cried, signaling for him to cut off more of your circulation. Without question, his hand tightened to the perfect pressure, and it was all you needed to send you over the edge into pure bliss. You came with a loud scream, that was sure to alert the neighbors, and your walls fluttered around Spencer’s cock, tears of pleasure flowing freely down your face. Everything in your body tensed, and your eyes rolled so far into the back of your head you’re surprised they didn’t get stuck there.
Your orgasm sent Spencer into his own, his head falling back with a deep guttural groan, his hands on your body tightening their grip. His body stilled, his cock buried deep within you, twitching and releasing his cum. “Fuck, Y/N, you perfect slut, ugh.”
Spencer’s hand released your neck, falling onto your hip. You gulped down the air like a fish, your hand releasing his wrist and coming up to rub your sore neck. Spencer pushed your legs off his shoulders, and his body collapsed onto yours, both of you completely wrecked.
You felt his hot breath against your neck, both of you panting like dogs. You could feel the sweat running down your forehead, mixing with the tears on your face.  Your eyes were still closed, your body still coming down from it’s high. At that moment you couldn’t wait to go to sleep, not just because you were exhausted, but because you could wrap around Spencer like a sloth. You laughed lightly, running one of your hands through Spencer’s hair. “That was amazing” you breathed out.
Spencer chuckled into your neck, “I knew I could make you cum.” He pulled back, hovering on his forearms above you.
You giggled at his words, your hands trailing down his back, to his tense shoulders, massaging them lightly. With one last peck to your lips, Spencer pulled away, turning around. You giggled again at the sight of his bare ass, “as much as I love the view, where are you going?”
He turned back to you with a light-hearted smile on his face “I need to clean you up, I don’t think you want to go to bed with cum dripping down your thighs.”
You groaned, lazily reaching out for him, “but I’m tired.”
“And whiny,” Spencer replied, his voice muffled as he walked away from you and into the bathroom.
“I’m only whiny because I want to go to sleep, we can take a shower in the morning.” You attempted to sway him.
He walked back into the bedroom, a wet rag in his hand. You smiled, you could already see the multitude of love bites you left on his neck. “Your neck looks pretty,” you stated lazily.
Spencer laughed at your words, crouching down to run the rag up your thighs. “Yours does too, you’re going to need a lot of makeup to cover that bruise.” He was right, a bruise in the shape of his hand was going to be on your neck for days.
You let out a hiss as he ran the rag up your folds, still extremely sensitive. You sat up slightly, attempting to retreat further onto the bed and away from Spencer. His arms slung over your waist, pulling you right back to the edge of the bed. “The quicker I do this the quicker we get to go to sleep, sweetheart.” He chided.
You rolled your eyes, pouting like a child, “but it hurts.”
Spencer hummed in understanding, continuing to clean you, “you know, I was going to make you cum another time, but, I didn’t think you could handle it.”
“Oh, please, I’d let you fuck me till I pass out if you made me cum like that again.” You laughed, watching as he threw the dirty rag onto the bedside table. He turned back to the bed, hovering over you once again.
His lips found yours in a slow, passionate kiss. “I’m holding you to that.”
You scoffed, pushing him off of you, “you better.” You turned onto your hands and knees, crawling to pull the comforter down. Spencer repeated your actions, crawling into bed next to you. You threw your leg over his, laying an arm across his chest.
“Here,” he said, sitting up slightly to slide his arm under your head as a makeshift pillow. “Next time, I’ll have to teach you how to make yourself cum.”
You sighed dreamily, snuggling further into Spencer’s warm body. You looked up at him, “next time, huh?”
Spencer’s eyes widened, his body shifting slightly away from you, “I-I mean, only if you want to-”
You laughed, using your hand on his chest to push him back down onto the bed, “ of course I want to.” You paused for a moment, “but, won’t that be a little...weird?”
Spencer laughed “Only if you make it, Y/N. Think of this all as an anatomy lesson” Spencer whispered breathily into your ear.

Masterlist // Read on AO3 // The other fic in this series
What's that? Me actually delivering on a fic I teased in the end notes of another fic? I hope you enjoy this one folks, it's cute, it's sweet, and it's fluffy. Also Spencer in a skirt. Who could resist? Title is from a poem by Mary Oliver.
(If you haven't read part one, all you need to know is that Spencer recently came out to the team, it's set in the early seasons, and he has a boyfriend named Oliver.)
“Are you sure they won’t think this is weird?”
Derek looks up from the magazine he’s idly flicking through while sat on Spencer’s bed with his eyebrows furrowed.
“What? Pretty boy, no. Everyone is just happy that you’re finally comfortable enough to share this side of your life with us,” he reassures him as Spencer pulls anxiously at the hem of the pink mini tennis skirt he’d picked out to wear tonight. “They might be a bit surprised, sure. But no-one’s gonna say anything. And if they do, they’ll have to answer to me, alright?.”
Derek had found out about Spencer’s cross-dressing when he’d gone hunting for a jumper to steal from his wardrobe while Spencer had paused the film they were watching to use the toilet. He’d frozen when he’d walked out to find his best friend staring at his vast array of women’s clothing, his eyes wide and jaw dropped. He felt certain that that was it: Derek could accept Spencer being gay, but this was where he’d draw the line.
It had taken a good twenty minutes for Derek to properly reassure him that he wasn’t angry or freaked out, and that he only wanted to know more about Spencer’s life and what he did for fun. Eventually, he rang Penelope to come over and Spencer did a little fashion show in the living room for them, and Derek’s enthusiastic wolf whistles finally settled the last tendrils of anxiety he had.
It’s hedging the end of spring now, almost half a year since he came out to his team, and after Derek and Penelope had found out about his cross-dressing, he’d decided that he wanted to share that side of him with the rest of the team, too. So he’d invited them all out to his favourite gay bar for a night out, except he’d be showing up not in the straight-laced suits they’re used to seeing him in, but in a short skirt, a sheer lacy top revealing black lingerie underneath, three inch heels, and a face full of make-up.
It might be the bravest thing he’s ever done, and he’s stared down some of the worst serial killers America’s ever seen.
“This looks cute, right?” he asks again, twirling in the full-length mirror. Oliver had promised him it looked amazing on him, but he’s not here right now to reassure him again. He’d been held back by the end of term wrapping up, meaning long hours coaching revision sessions, preparing exams, and grading. Spencer doesn’t envy him, that’s for sure.
“It looks adorable, Spence.”
He’s spared another one of Spencer’s anxious questions by Penelope dramatically announcing her arrival.
“You know I only gave you that key for emergencies, right, Penelope?” Spencer asks drily once she arrives in the bedroom, unceremoniously dumping her many bags right in the middle of the floor.
“I should be so mad at you for saying that, baby genius, because you know that we have no secrets and that means I should be able to waltz in whenever I like, but I can’t because I’m too distracted; oh my God, you look incredible!” she says excitedly, her voice uncomfortably close to a squeal.
Derek raises an eyebrow. “See?”
“Shut up,” Spencer mutters, face red, but he lets Penelope wrap him in a tight hug anyway.
“Let me just say that it’s a damn shame you’re taken because you would one hundred percent be getting some tonight if you weren’t,” Penelope promises, shaking her head in mock disappointment.
“Alright, alright,” Spencer says, grinning as he playfully rolls her eyes.
“What are you wearing tonight, baby girl?” Derek calls from the bed.
Penelope actually does squeal this time, her eyes shining with excitement as she pulls out a sequined neon pink dress. Form-fitting with a plunging v-neck, Spencer can already tell she’s going to look absolutely incredible.
“Damn, mama,” Derek cheers, wolf-whistling as Spencer gushes his praises too. “You guys are really gonna show me up tonight, aren’t you?”
“It’s not our fault you’re a boring man with no fashion sense,” Penelope teases, sticking her tongue out as she shrugs off the jacket of her tracksuit.
“Hey, I’d watch your mouth, baby girl,” Derek warns playfully. “I’m driving you tonight, and you don’t wanna lose your ride.”
Spencer snorts. “As if you could ever say no to us.”
Derek rolls his eyes, but the soft grin on his face tells Spencer that he knows it’s true. “How long do you two think you’re gonna be?”
“I’ve already done my make-up,” Penelope explains as she toys with the fabric of her dress, “so all I need to do is slip this on and then let my hair out of these plaits.”
Spencer feels nerves creep back up his spine as he considers just how close he is to revealing this side of him to the rest of his team, and he worries his bottom lip anxiously as Penelope heads into the ensuite to put on her dress.
“Hey, pretty boy,” Derek says gently, nudging him with his foot, “stop worrying. Everything’s gonna be fine. I promise.”
Spencer forces a tight smile. “You can’t promise that,” he says quietly, sitting down on the bed and folding the pleats of his skirt neatly over his thighs just for something to do with his nervous hands.
Derek softens. “I know. Nothing’s guaranteed. But think about it like a scientist. You know what every one of your team members is like, and you know how accepting they’ve been of you since you came out. What are the chances of a bad outcome?”
He sighs. “Low, I guess.”
“See? You just need to relax as much as possible and take each moment as it comes. Everything will turn out okay in the end, no matter what happens.”
“Is my baby genius feeling insecure again?” Penelope asks sternly as she exits the bathroom. “Because that is not acceptable.”
“You look amazing, Penny!” Spencer claims, half because it couldn’t be more true, and half because he wants to divert her attention.
It doesn’t work. “Old news,” she says dismissively, her eyes sparkling. “You look just as fabulous and we’re gonna show these b words how it’s done tonight, okay?” And after a second… “I’m sorry I said b words, I’m just very passionate about this right now.”
Spencer and Derek laugh at her fondly as she sits next to him on the bed and wraps her arm around him.
He sighs and rests his head on her shoulder. “I love you, Penelope.”
“Love you more, baby,” she insists, kissing his temple.
“You two saps ready to make a move?” Derek teases as he climbs off the bed.
Spencer and Penelope take the hands he offers them and stand up, both smoothing out their skirts as soon as they’re upright again. In his heels, Spencer’s even taller than usual, but it doesn’t make him feel self-conscious, it just makes him feel powerful, and that combined with the outfit he knows is objectively beautiful is a rather unstoppable combination.
“We’re ready,” Spencer confirms. “But don’t pretend like you’re not the biggest sap of all of us, Derek.”
He and Penelope giggle as they make their way to the front door, arms interlocked in solidarity as they leave Derek protesting indignantly in the bedroom.
“Stop floundering, chauffeur,” Penelope calls with a put upon haughty accent. “We have places to be.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Derek mutters as he follows them out into the hallway. “You two will be the death of me, you know that?”
Spencer laughs as Derek takes the arm Penelope’s not already hanging off of. “Oh don’t worry, Derek. We are well aware.”
Tumblr media
kThey’re the last of their group to arrive at the club, and Spencer feels kind of bad that he rounded up his group of friends and then left the straightest half of them to fend for themselves in the middle of a gay bar. It’s better this way, though, he decides, as he nervously approaches them, gripping Derek and Penelope’s hands tightly. He’d rather introduce them all to his cross-dressing all at once rather than awkwardly explaining it as each othem arrived individually.
Penelope announces their arrival with excited squeals, immediately going in for hugs as they climb out of the booth, but Spencer watches nervously as they all pause for a moment, staring at him, stunned.
“Um. Hi?” he says unsurely.
Elle is the first to break the silence. “Wow, Spence, you look amazing,” she says brightly, walking over to give him a hug. “You have to tell me where you got those heels because they are incredible.”
“Thanks, Elle,” he says, laughing a little awkwardly as he hugs her back. “I get them custom-made. I’m friends with one of the boutique owners in Dupont Circle. She makes shoes for a lot of us, actually.”
When she steps aside, JJ gives him a hug, too. “Elle’s right, you look fantastic, I’m so jealous!”
“You look great, too, Jayje!” he insists. “This shade of blue looks so good on you.”
She leans up to kiss his cheek before allowing Hotch to step into the hot seat. Spencer’s breath hitches slightly as he loses what little nerve he’d built up at Elle and JJ’s positive reactions. If this is all gonna go downhill, he thinks, it’ll be now.
“Hey, Spence,” Hotch says as quietly as the loud bar will allow him, and Spencer’s immediately relieved to hear just as much fatherly comfort and reassurance in his tone as there usually is when he speaks to him. “I’m so proud of you. And I’m so happy that you felt comfortable enough to share this side of you with us.”
He wraps an arm around his waist and pulls him into a side hug, as well as he can when Spencer’s all of a sudden taller than him.
“Thanks, Hotch,” he says earnestly, voice warm but watery.
Derek smirks at him from where he’s taken a seat next to Elle, and raises an eyebrow. “Told ya so.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Spencer rolls his eyes, but he can’t help but grin happily at how well his ‘second coming out’, as Penelope had put it weeks ago, had ended up going. “Shut up, Derek.”
“Well, with that out of the way,” Penelope interrupts, clapping her hands excitedly, “I think some partying is very much in order.”
Everyone grabs a drink from the tray the other three had ordered before they’d arrived and holds it up, excited for the night ahead of them. “Cheers!”
They all make their way to the dance floor and are soon a little past tipsy and dancing unabashedly to 1980s club hits, although Hotch had admittedly bowed out fairly early on and stuck to sitting at the bar and laughing at the antics of the team. Spencer swears he’d caught him videoing them at one point, but if that’s the case, he won’t mind a single bit. He wants to burn every part of tonight permanently into his memory.
By the time their feet hurt enough to stop dancing and head back to a booth, they’re flushed red and a little sweaty as they giggle together, a messy huddle of high heels, dresses, and a whole lot of hairspray.
“I believe another round is in order,” Hotch says in that loud and loose way of his, the kind that only comes out when he’s off-duty and the pressures of his family and the office aren’t weighing so heavily on his shoulders. He places a black tray of various cocktails down in the middle of the table before sliding in next to Spencer, patting his shoulder gently as he does so.
“Very much so,” JJ agrees, sniping a mojito and taking a couple of long sips, everyone else quickly following suit.
“So how often do you come here, pretty boy?” Derek asks, sipping on his own drink.
“I started coming here a couple of years ago when I was really getting to know myself and experimenting, y’know? It’s where I found a solid group of friends that I could actually trust and be myself with, so I was here multiple times a week before I joined the BAU. Now Oscar and I come most weekends, but since we’re a bit older now, sometimes we just want to meet our friends for coffee instead of at the bar, so it’s not quite as often as it was before.”
“Do you mean to say, Spencer, that you have other friends?” Penelope asks in faux-outrage, clutching her chest dramatically.
“I know, I’m sorry to break it to you.”
“We’ll get back to you on whether or not you’re forgiven,” JJ grins.
“Y’know, I might have other friends,” Spencer counters, “but I don’t have another family. You guys are it for me on that front.” With Diana deteriorating so badly and barely remembering him anymore, the statement has never felt more true.
“Aw, Spence, you really know how to pull it back, don’t you?” Elle laughs, the others quickly joining in.
Hotch wraps an arm around his shoulders. “Well, you’ll always have us, okay, Spencer? We are your family, and we’re not going anywhere.”
“I’ll drink to that,” Derek says, and as everyone raises their glasses, Spencer can’t help the wide grin on his face because this is it, he thinks. This is what having a family is supposed to feel like.
He’s not sure there’s anything better.
Goddd I'm such a sucker for the found family trope, I'm just eating that shit up. I hope you liked this! It was certainly fun to write and helped get my creative juices flowing again, so I'm very proud of it.
I waited quite a while to post this one bc it kept getting pushed back, but I really hope you enjoyed it!! And thank you so much for all your support on part one of this series <3

AN: When you decided on a life of academia, you’d never expected to meet someone like Spencer Reid
Characters: Spencer Reid Pairings: Spencer Reid x reader Spoilers: None Warnings: Mentions of crime and violence, alcohol
------------------
You hated this stupid paper, you really really did. You stared blankly at your screen, reading and rereading the same two paragraphs in the vain hope that something would stick, but it was all gibberish.
“Hey, there’s my favorite PhD student,” a familiar voice called, collapsing into the seat beside you, “coffee?”
“Please,” you sighed gratefully, wrapping your hands around the disposable cup and taking a deep sip. It was perfect, just warm enough to shock some life back into you, “I owe you one, Prof. Reid.”
Spencer wrinkled his nose distastefully, and you laughed.
“I told you I hate that,” he said.
“And we both know that’s a lie,” you teased back, “you love being called Professor.”
“By my students,” he admitted, “not by you. How’s the thesis outline coming along?”
You sighed, “it’s not.”
“Can I take a look?” Spencer asked, reaching out towards you.
“Noooooo way,” you said, closing your laptop quickly, “not until it’s done.”
“But, Y/N-“
“No, Spence! It’s terrible.”
Spencer stuck his tongue out at you but didn’t press the issue as he pulled a stack of unmarked essays out of his satchel. You and Spencer had met a few years ago, when you’d both started a BA in philosophy. It was your third undergraduate degree, but like Spencer’s hundredth, and you’d bonded over your love of academia almost instantly. By now, meeting in one of the common areas to study and work together was almost a ritual, twice a week at least, every week of the semester. You loved it, you relied on it really. Without Spencer you were sure you’d have lost your mind years ago.
Spencer couldn’t always stay long, after all he was still a hot shot FBI agent, but even just the little bit of time you did have together was like a breath of fresh air. You both looked forward to the chance to talk about something other than your jobs for once.
“I’m sure it’s not, Y/N/N,” Spencer assured.
“Mhhm,” you said unconvincingly, “what about you? Did you get your epistemology paper in on time?”
“Oh yeah. I’m not sure anything I wrote technically qualifies as an argument, but it’s done.” Spencer replied, his eyes tracing the papers in front of him at lightning speed and marking as he went
You could see the signs of exhaustion on his face and your stomach pinched with concern. Spencer was a genius, you knew that better than anyone, but even he wasn’t immune to the stresses of university life. He was always burning the candle at both ends, taking on more than any reasonable person could ever hope to accomplish, and that was before he started teaching an intro to criminology class. It worried you.
“Spence?”
He looked up, his eyes still glassy and faraway, the hint of a smile on his lips, “Mmhmm?”
You frowned, “Are you okay? You look exhausted.”
Spencer nodded, “Did you know that some studies have shown that an adult man can actually survive on as little as two hours of sleep a night without showing outwards signs of exhaustion?” He rambled, gesturing at nothing with his hands, “Sleep deprivation will, of course, affect your mental capabilities over time, but the amount of time that process actually takes is fairly individual. In my case-“ he looked over, noticed you raising your eyebrows at him, and laughed, obviously realising just how tired he was. “Yeah I’m a little tired,” he admitted, “it’s just been a long week that’s all. I was up for a few days for a case,,” he nudged your shoulder with his, “you know if you took me up on my offer I’d probably have more time to sleep.”
“Me? Join the FBI?” You scoffed, shaking your head, “No way. I’ve never even held a gun.”
“Neither had I before I joined.”
“Yeah but you’re-“ you gestured in his general direction, “you know.”
“I’m what?”
“You know,” you huffed, feeling your cheeks flush with embarrassment, “strong. And brave. And stuff.”
Spencer laughed but he looked pleased with himself nonetheless, “you think I’m strong and brave?”
“And stuff,” you clarified, “I’m an academic. I’m perfectly happy in a dark room with my dusty books and manuscripts, thank you very much.”
Spencer nodded, stealing a sip of your coffee and grimacing at the taste, “is there any sugar in this at all?”
“You tell me,” You answered, “you bought it.”
“Well there’s obviously not enough, you can still taste the actual coffee,” he said, just as his phone started to beep frantically.
Spencer took it out of his pocket and frowned at the screen. Your heart sunk a little but, when Spencer looked up at you apologetically, you shot him a small smile.
“Duty calls,” you said simply.
Spencer nodded, packing his stack of papers back into his satchel, “I’m sorry, Y/N/N. I’ll see you back here on Friday?”
“Sure,” you agreed, “if you’re back by then.”
“And you’ll send me your thesis outline when you’re finished with it?”
“Of course.”
Spencer wrapped one arm around your shoulder, giving you a quick hug, “I’ll be back as soon as I can. Enjoy your day.”
“Good luck, Professor,” you smiled, waving him off, “and thanks for the coffee!”
He waved back at you, half jogging and already on the phone as he vanished into the incoming crowds. You watched him go, sighing sadly as you turned back to your unfinished outline.
“Okay, Y/N, you can do this. Spencer’s written like three of these, let’s go.” You muttered, “The psychological implications of linguistic progression, think.”
You threw yourself back into your research, losing yourself in the methodical nature of your work. The coffee next to you got cold.
————————
Spencer was flushed by the time he made it into the office, his cheeks hurting with the effort of suppressing his smile. Time with you always did that to him, no matter how drained he was when he first arrived.
You were like a ray of sunshine on an otherwise very gloomy day, and ten minutes with you was better for his mental health than a whole weekend’s worth of sleep. You were sweet, and funny, and you let him ramble about whatever he wanted to and even pretended to listen. Meeting you for coffee every week had become more than an act of friendship, it was an act of self care, a thin thread holding what was left of his sanity together.
His phone chimed and he smiled down at the message, a picture of you sipping your coffee and giving the cameras a big thumbs up:
Go kick some bad guy ass, Wise Guy!
He started typing up a reply but, before he could, someone interrupted.
“Good date, Pretty Boy?” Morgan greeted.
“It’s not a date, Morgan, you know that,” Spencer replied, fondly, “it’s just coffee with a friend.”
“Oh yeah it’s totally not a date, just a biweekly coffee hangout with someone you’ve been in love with since forever.”
“Yeah, exactly,” he smiled.
“But it did go well, then?” He retorted with a knowing smile.
Spencer smiled and nodded, “She thinks I’m strong and brave and stuff.”
“And stuff?”
“And stuff.”
“What kind of stuff?” Prentiss interjected.
Spencer froze, “I don’t know, I hadn’t thought about that.”
“Does she know you’re not dating?” Prentiss asked.
“What? Yes of course! Or-maybe? I don’t know we haven’t exactly talked about it.” Spencer replied.
“No, she doesn’t know,” Morgan clarified.
Spencer opened his mouth to argue but, before he could, Garcia cut in.
“Okay my little geniuses, it’s a weird one today. Let’s get briefed,” Garcia called.
“When do we get to meet her?” Prentiss whispered as they took their seats.
“Never,” Spencer replied.
Emily pouted, “you’re no fun.”
Spencer smiled but, as the briefing went on and the picture of their newest case got clearer and clearer, so did something else; they couldn’t do this alone. They needed help, very very specific help. His heart sunk. As they headed to the jet, Spencer pulled out his phone, wishing to God he didn’t have to.
“Hey, Y/N, remember how you said you owed me one?”
—————————-
This had to be some sort of nightmare, you thought to yourself as you stepped off the jet. When Spencer had first called you, you’d laughed, told him to stop joking around and tell you what he actually wanted but, as it turned out, he was serious. They had a case, he’d said, one that required a certain set of expertise, one that only you had. And you couldn’t really say no could you? Not to Spencer.
And now you’d solved it. It was over. Your hands were shaking and you’d never been this tired in your life, but it was over. You felt a hand on your shoulder and jumped.
“Hey, it’s alright, kid,” Derek Morgan assured you, “you’re okay.”
You nodded, even though it wasn’t a question and gave him a small smile.
“I know.”
Derek nodded, his dark eyes boring into you in that way only members of the BAU could, like they were looking into you and not at you, so you tried to look brave.
“You did good work on this case,” Derek said, walking back to the building with you, “without you I’m not sure we would’ve caught the guy.”
You shook your head, “Spen-Reid would have figured it out eventually.”
Derek pressed his lips together, “Probably, but even he said it would’ve taken him days to reconstruct the language from scratch, even without adding the psychology behind it. In that time who knows how many people our UnSub would have been able to get.”
You looked over your shoulder to where Spencer was standing at the base of the jet’s stairs, looking everywhere but at you. He’d been acting distant for a while now, ever since Hotch had decided to strap you into a bulletproof vest and send you in to talk a maniac off a ledge. The UnSub had been having some sort of psychotic break, he’d forgotten how to speak English and communicated exclusively in a language he’d created himself, a combination of several that pointed to details about his personal life. It was fascinating, in the worst way possible, a real life application of the theory you’d been working on for years. It would make your thesis a piece of cake to finish.
The thought made you feel nauseous.
“Is he-“ you asked Derek, pressing your lips together nervously, “is he angry at me or something?”
He frowned, “Reid? No. He’s crazy about you, he looks forward to those coffee dates with you every week for days.”
You flushed, “They're not dates, Derek.”
“Oh yeah, sorry,” he replied, sarcastically, “slip of the tongue.” He ruffled your hair fondly, “Go on, talk to him, I’ll call you a cab when you’re done.”
You nodded and hung back, letting Derek’s hulking form vanish into the FBI building as you made your way slowly back toward the jet. Spencer was staring up at the moon, looking pensive and beautiful and painfully sad.
“Hey, there’s my favorite profiler,” you greeted gently, “you alright?”
“Hey,” he replied, still looking up at the moon, “why didn’t you go inside with everyone else?”
“I was waiting for you,” you explained, “I wanted to see if you’re okay.”
“If I’m okay?” He laughed incredulously, meeting your eye, “Y/N, I’m out here because I’m trying to figure out what I could possibly say to make up for what I just put you through.” He explained, “This...this stuff-it’s my world, not yours. I should never have brought you into it.”
“Spencer you needed me, your team needed an expert and, no offense, but your social circle isn’t big enough to have two experts in linguistic psychology.” You teased gently.
Spencer chuckled and crossed his arms over his chest.
You stepped forward, resting a hand gently on his bicep, “You made the right decision, Spence. I’m glad you called, I’m-“ you paused, “I’m glad you let me help you.”
Spencer snorted, “And it nearly got you killed.”
“It didn’t nearly get me killed-“
“Yes. It did,” he insisted, “the UnSub was psychotic, there was no guarantee he wouldn’t have killed you on sight. Hotch should never have let you-I should never have let you go in there.”
“But I wanted to and I’m fine. The case is over, Spence, we’re in the clear.” You assured him, “Things can go back to normal now.”
“No, they can’t!” Spencer practically shouted, turning to face you, his eyes red and puffy. You instinctively stepped back and Spencer pressed his lips together, looking guilty, “Y/N, I-knowing you were in danger and that there was nothing I could do about it...it killed me. You were never meant to know about any of this, you were meant to be safe! I was meant to keep you safe!” He explained, running a hand through his hair, “You were the one thing in my life that this stuff couldn’t touch and now-“ he breathed, “now everytime you look at me you’re gonna think about this, and him, and everything I put you through and-“ he met your eye, “and things will be weird and you’ll stop wanting to talk to me. Things won’t be the same, Y/N.”
You flushed and stepped forward, “You're worried that I’m not gonna talk to you anymore?” You asked. Spencer didn’t answer, but the way he avoided your eye and worked his jaw seemed like answer enough, “Spence,” you smiled, “you’re like...my favorite person in the world. This stuff,” you gestured around, “what you do, it doesn’t change that. In fact I think it’s kind of incredible. You guys tracked down a serial killer based on nothing but some muddled letters, who does that?” You laughed.
Spencer didn’t respond, but the edges of his lips twitched, like he wanted to smile. You watched him for a moment, the way he held his head, the way his eyes darted up to yours. He was just as beautiful as he’d always been, but there was something more now. He was vulnerable, you realized, really vulnerable for the first time since you’d known him. No matter what he said, Spencer was reaching out to you.
“Your world is messed up, Spencer,” you continued, stepping forward and taking his hand, “but you aren’t. We aren’t, and I’m glad I got to be there when you needed me. We’re good, okay?”
“Do you promise?” He asked, his voice small.
You squeezed his hand, “I promise.”
Spencer nodded, squeezing back, and let you slowly pull him back towards the FBI building.
“Besides,” you continued, “you still owe me a look at my thesis.”
Spencer snorted, “That’ll literally take me 3 seconds.”
“Show off.”
“What? It’s true.” He laughed.
You suddenly realized that Spencer was still holding your hand and, when he saw you looking and tried to pull away, you held on tighter. Spencer smiled nervously, and you felt a rush of something warm and promising flow through you.
“Hey, Y/N?” He started nervously.
“Yes, Spencer?”
“Are we dating?” He asked.
“After today? We’d better be. I’m expecting at least a dinner after almost getting shot for you.” You teased, bumping his shoulder with yours.
“That’s so not funny,” Spencer replied, but he was smiling when he said it.
“It’s a little bit funny.”
“Fine,” Spencer agreed, stopping in his tracks and pulling you towards him, “it’s a little bit funny.”
And that’s when he pulled you in, cupping your face with his hands and pressing his lips to yours. Just like that, the weariness of the day melted away, disappearing into a kiss that tasted like burnt coffee and sugar and the best champagne you’d ever had. Spencer was strong and sure. He kissed you like it was the only chance he’d ever get, like he wanted to burn the memory of you into that brilliant mind of his forever. When you broke apart it felt like the earth had shifted beneath you and you stared at one another, breathless and smiling like teenagers caught making out beneath the bleachers.
“Oh yeah,” you laughed, “yeah you definitely owe me dinner.”
“Woohoo!” Morgan cheered.
“Ooooo, Y/N and Reid sitting in a tree,” Prentiss sang, “K-I-S-S-I-N-G!”
“Go get ‘em, Lover Boy,” Garcia joined in.
Spencer laughed, letting his head fall down onto your shoulder, humming when you threaded your finger through his hair.
“Can we-um-can we maybe continue this at a later date?” Spencer asked, “Like maybe at dinner? Or,” he checked his watch, “breakfast, maybe?”
You looked back at Spencer’s team and felt, with a sudden rush of clarity, that you were looking at a group of people who would soon be staples of your life.
“Let’s go get coffee with the others,” you answered, “and then after that,” you tilted his head up and kissed him softly, “you can take me to breakfast.”

Flowers for Spencer
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Pairing: Spencer Reid x F!Reader
Summary: Spencer starts receiving flowers from a secret admirer. A different one each day, a different meaning.
A/N: It’s 2am and I decided to write a spencer reid oneshot because i’m completely soft for this man. enjoy.
Tumblr media
A white carnation sat on Spencer’s desk when he arrived to work. Just a single flower with no note or indication of who it was from.
He picked it up with an intrigued expression on his face, gaining the attention of Emily and Derek.
“Whatcha got there, Reid?” Emily asked as she set her things on her desk.
“Dianthus caryophyllus, also known as a carnation. Different colored carnations represent different meanings. For example, a white carnation represents something being sweet or love.”
Derek snorted, “Someone in love with you, Reid?”
The young doctor shrugs, “I don’t know. I might be looking too much into it. Someone probably just picked a random flower and placed it on my desk.”
Emily cocked her head to the side and looked at Spencer curiously, “No, I think that flower was given to you for a reason, Reid.” Her eyes widened and she stood up from her desk, pointing at the flower, “I bet someone has a crush on you and they’re trying to tell you through the flowers!”
“That’s creepy,” Derek retorted as he took a sip from his coffee.
Emily rolled her eyes, “Well I think it’s sweet.”
“What’s sweet?” you ask when you approach Spencer and Emily, handing them their respective to-go cups of coffee.
“Our good doctor here has a secret admirer,” Derek points out with a grin.
You look back at Spencer with a soft smile, “That so?”
He shyly smiles back and shrugs, “It could be nothing. But it’s nice. Never received flowers before.”
“Well whoever it is, that’s very sweet of them. Anyway, JJ said to meet in the briefing room in five. I just gotta grab some files to I’ll see you guys there.”
____________
The next day, Spencer found another flower on his desk. This time it was a
“Bellis perennis, known as the common daisy.” Spencer states when JJ, Derek, Penelope, and Emily gather around him as he holds the flower in between his fingers.
“And what does this one stand for?” Emily asks.
“Innocence and purity.”
Derek nods in agreement, “I mean, I think that sums you up perfectly, Reid.”
Spencer looks at him confusedly, “Thanks?”
“Okay, okay. Do we know anyone who has a particular fondness of flowers?”
The small group stand in silence for three seconds and proceeded to shake their heads, “Nope. Not a clue.”
You approached everyone with files in your arms and a curious look on your face, “What’s everyone standing around for?”
“Our adorable Doctor Reid received another flower from his secret admirer. They think he’s innocent and pure.” Derek chimes in, answering your question.
“Which I don’t understand, at all.” Spencer retorts.
“I think it’s cute,” Penelope states, “Guys often don’t receive flowers and I’m glad it’s you, Spencer.”
“Thanks, Garcia.” he replies shyly and then looks back at you, “Do you have any idea who it might be? Have you seen anyone hanging close to my desk lately?”
You give him a shake of your head, “No, sorry, Spence. But I think it’s nice of whoever it is for them to do this.”
He hums in agreement and sits back down at his desk once everyone disperses, “Oh!” his face lights up, “I just remembered, the new edition of Agents of Atlas series released today! If we have time, you wanna come with me to get it?”
“Sure! Maybe afterwards, we can go to the pizza place down the street from there?”
“Sounds like a plan!”
“Great!” you say enthusiastically before following JJ to her office.
Derek, who witnessed the interaction, rolled over to Spencer’s desk with a smirk on his face, “You and Y/N?”
Spencer already gives him a disapproving look, “We’re just friends.”
“What if she’s your secret admirer? It makes sense right? Ever since JJ hired her as her assistant, you two have been connected at the hip! You’re into the same nerdy stuff, she always listens to you go off on your tangents. She’s sweet and pretty and-”
“And we’re just friends,” Spencer said again with a pointed look, “I don’t-” he paused and let out a sigh, “I don’t think she sees me like that, Morgan. She’s-She’s too good for me.”
It was Derek’s turn to give him a pointed look, “Reid, she’s perfect for you. But fine, whatever. Instead of yearning for some mystery person you have your dream girl right in front of you.” he then rolls back to his desk, getting back into the zone of looking over case files.
_________
It’s been almost two years since you were hired to be JJ’s assistant. She was an amazing and efficient woman, but she finally caved after she realized that work was consuming her and she needed help. That’s when you stepped in and it was the best thing to ever happen to you. Sort of. Sure, you had to read through some really violent and cruel files, but you also aided in helping save lives. Not to mention, you grew close to the one Doctor Spencer Reid.
On your first day, you two immediately hit it off. He noticed your Star Trek pin on your bag, quoting a Spock line to you that made you grin from ear to ear.
You two shared a lot of the same interests and your personalities were fairly similar. Derek had complained that now there were two Reids he had to work with, but you knew he meant it jokingly.
Getting to know Spencer and growing close with him was something you enjoyed. You loved spending time with him, listening to him ramble and go on random tangents. Everything he said was so remarkably fascinating, you wished he would never stop talking. You grew to like him more than a friend.
Eventually, you realized that your small crush you harbored had grown into something more and you didn’t know what to do. Spencer was the best friend you’ve ever had. He understood you so well and not to mention you two got along fantastically. You just didn’t want to put your friendship at risk.
So what did you resort to? Leaving him flowers to express how you felt.
______________
“Is that lavender?” Penelope asked, sniffing the air when she entered the bullpen.
Derek nodded, “Yup. Another gift from Spencer’s secret admirer. Apparently this one means admiration.”
She looked at Spencer in awe, “Wow. A flower every single day this week, Spencer. This person must really like you! You got an idea who it is yet?”
He shook his head, “Nope.”
That made her confused, “But you’re a profiler. Can’t you figure it out? Oh! Wait! I can hack into the cameras and figure it out for you!” she began to rush towards her office, but Spencer called out to her.
“Please, don’t. I-I don’t wanna embarrass whoever this is.”
“But don’t you wanna know who’s gone sweet on ya?” she asks with a friendly smile.
He shrugs, “Yeah, but-I don’t know. I want them to build up the courage to reveal themselves to me. Plus...I like the attention. No one’s ever given me flowers before, let alone shown this much interest in me.”
Penelope wanted to say something, something that she knew but also didn’t know. She had a hunch, but she didn’t want to rile Spencer up with the risk of her being wrong. So instead, she gave him a smile and a nod, and said, “Understood.”
____________
It was late and everyone had left for the night. A case still in progress, but Hotch ordered everyone to get a good night’s sleep to rest their brains.
You were the only one left, wanting to finish up some tasks that you haven’t been able to complete since the case had emerged.
When you were finished, you exited JJ’s office and peered into the bullpen. Empty. So you quickly and carefully pulled out the flower that you planned on giving Spencer.
You rushed over to his desk, placing it at his workstation, a soft smile on your lips.
“You should tell him,” the voice made you jump with a gasp. Heart on your hand you turned around to see Hotch standing in the doorway of his office.
“I thought everyone left.” you murmured.
“Just had some things to finish up.” he closed his office door and walked towards you. He stood before you, stuffing his hands in his pockets and nodded towards Spencer’s desk, “You should tell him.”
“I will just not right now. I just-I don’t know how to tell him. And if I do, what if he rejects me? Then our entire friendship is washed down the toilet because I couldn’t control my feelings.”
“He likes you too, Y/N.”
“How do you know?”
“I’m a profiler. It’s my job,” he says with a smirk. He gives you a soft nudge, “Lemme walk you to your car.”
You sighed and agreed, following him out of the bullpen with a plan brewing in your mind.
___________
“Ranunculus,” Spencer’s head shoots up when he hears your voice and sees you staring down at him, “Means you have charm and you’re attractive. But I’m sure you knew that already.”
He clears his throat and sits up more, “Yeah,” he looks down at the flower in his hand and back up at you, “So what do you think of all this? It’s been a week and a half and my secret admirer still hasn’t revealed themselves to me. Should I just treat it as a case and start profiling them?”
A part of you wanted to reject that idea completely, but you had to remain cool. So you shrugged, “Don’t know. Maybe they’re just trying to buy a little bit more time.”
“I think by the end of the week, if they don’t reveal themselves, I’ll just go looking for them instead. Do you think that sounds like a good idea?”
“It’s your life, Spence. You do what you want. My opinion shouldn’t matter.”
“But it does. Your opinion matters a lot to me,” he says softly, a shy grin on his face, one that you came to love.
You hear someone clear their throat and you turn around to see JJ, “Sorry, Y/N, but I need some help.”
“Right, sorry!” you give Spencer a wave and head back to JJ’s office to assist her.
________________
It was the last day of the week and Spencer was disappointed to find his desk lacking a flower.
His coworkers all peering at the surface, frowns matching his own.
“No flower?” Emily asked.
“Guess not.”
“Maybe someone took it and threw it away?” Derek asked.
Spencer shook his head, “No. No. I think-I think that means they’re gonna come clean. My secret admirer is going to reveal themselves to me today.”
Cue the group discussing who it could possibly, chattering among themselves sharing their own respective theories. All the while, Spencer plops into his chair and begins to take out a file and notebook from his bag.
When he hears someone clear their throat, he looks up, eyes catching yours briefly before landing on a single red rose in your hand.
“Hi,” you greeted him mousily. Nervous butterflies fluttering in your stomach.
“Hi,” Spencer murmured softly, standing to his feet, “Whatcha got there?”
You look down at the rose, finger delicately grazing along its petals, “For you,” you extend it to him and he takes it, “It’s me. I’m your secret admirer. And if you don’t feel the same, it’s okay. i just-I dunno. You’re kind and smart and funny and wonderful and an amazing friend. I’ve never met anyone like you, Spencer.”
“How long?”
“Hm?” you look at him now and you see the softness in his eyes.
“How long have you had feelings for me?”
“Three months after I started working here.”
He chuckles in disbelief, “Almost two years and we could’ve been dating during this entire time.”
You look at him confusedly until realization struck you, “You-”
“Yeah,” he says with a smile, “For just as long.”
“Oh,” you say with a shy grin.
“Score!” Penelope and Derek high five, breaking the sweet moment you and Spencer were having. JJ and Emily were digging through their wallets handing over the other two money.
Realizing what was happening, both you and Spencer looked at them in shock, “You bet on us?!”
“Not necessarily,” Emily murmured in dismay.
“We all made bets on who we thought the secret admirer was. Morgan and Garcia bet it was you.”
“And I did as well,” Hotch added with a smirk on his face as he reached out to collect his winnings.
You scoffed, “That’s not fair, Hotch! You already knew!”
The group looked at their boss in surprise and disappointment. He shrugged, “I caught her placing a flower on his desk last week when everyone left.”
“I’ll be taking that!” Spencer plucked the money out of Hotch’s hands.
“And what’re you gonna use that money on?” Derek asked.
Spencer looked at you and smiled, “A date.”

hey congrats! do you think you could do 📝( the blurb) for moreid where it’s their first kiss and spence says prompt 40 (“are you implying that you want to kiss me?”) and derek ig after the kiss says prompt 8 (“god, your lips are so soft”)? does that make sense? i apologies if it doesn’t! thanks!!
Hehe, yes anon, it makes sense! Also thank you so much for the prompt, this one is so cute and fun omg <333
Pairing: Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid
Warnings: Mention of a case but like, no details. Just fluff! And kisses hehe.
Also on AO3.
The first time Derek Morgan noticed there might be a little more than friendship between himself and Spencer Reid was after a hard case.
He always knew he loved Reid; the kid was special to him. He was overly protective of the lanky young man who was always stumbling headfirst into trouble— as much as that terrified the entire team. Reid had a knack for bumping into things, tripping over his own two feet, and taking off his freaking Kevlar vest when Morgan told him to keep the damn thing on!
It wasn’t uncommon for Morgan to notice bruises and bandaids on Reid’s hands and arms. He was, again, always knocking into things. Whether his own desk, a doorframe, or one time he walked right into the drivers side door that Hotch just opened. Morgan tried not to laugh as the kid groaned and rubbed the bump forming on his forehead. Penelope once compared him to a newborn foal. “All legs and no balance.”
But the day Morgan realized there might be some attraction in the mix of emotions he had for Reid, he was watching the kid sleep on the jet. The victim didn’t make it, which happens sometimes. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, but Reid was taking it harder than everyone else. He always did.
Morgan’s music had stopped playing a while ago, but he didn’t seem to notice, his eyes too busy studying the way Reid’s chest rose and fell with even breaths. How his eyelashes rested upon his rosy cheeks, fluttering every once in a while as he dreamed. How his lips were a naturally pretty shade of pink.
He blinked, adjusting in his seat. When had his feelings shifted for Reid? It couldn’t have happened suddenly, but that’s what it felt like. It was like cold water was thrown onto his heated body, shocking his system with the realization that he didn’t just love the younger man— he was in love with him.
A few months had passed and Morgan tried so freaking hard to pretend everything was normal, was the same. Because he would never dare ruin the special bond he had with Reid over something as trivial as wanting to kiss him— well okay, he wanted to do so much more than kiss him— but still.
The team had decided to go out to O’keefe’s after a long week of paperwork. It was nice to go out without a real reason every once in a while. Emily was the one who convinced Reid to come out, and for that Morgan was thankful.
Because now Reid was two drinks in, his cheeks and nose flushed rosy red from the buzz in his alcohol, his eyes shimmering as he laughed at the joke Penelope just told. God he was gorgeous. The prettiest damn boy Morgan had ever laid his eyes on.
He couldn’t stop staring at Reid’s lips throughout the night. The genius had a habit of biting his bottom lip when he was thinking, or trying to hold back a quip or the need to infodump. Said bottom lip was now a little swollen and pink from the biting he had been doing and God was it doing something to Morgan. He was finding it harder and harder to focus on the conversations happening around him. All he could think about was how sweet his Pretty Boy’s lips must taste.
“Morgan?”
He blinked, glancing at Emily who was just smirking at him from over her glass. “You seem to be somewhere else tonight, big guy. What’s on your mind?”
He felt the pleasant warmth of his own buzz tingling throughout his bloodstream. It wasn’t enough to make him spill his innermost thoughts, however. He shot her a smirk in return as he held his own drink to his lips, “I couldn’t help but notice how late it’s getting. Might have to get myself on that dance floor before it’s closing time.”
Penelope squealed and shot out of her seat, reaching for his hand, “Come on my brown sugar daddy! I’ve been waiting all night for you to ask me to dance!”
He chuckled and finished his drink before taking her perfectly manicured hand, “As you wish, mama.” As much as he’d rather be holding Reid’s hand, he knew he owed Penelope at least one (or five) dances.
As the night got longer, hotter, and a bit more sweaty than Morgan had expected, he collapsed back in his chair with a laugh. His mouth tasted like sweet rum, and his brain was swimming in warmth and tingles. At some point Penelope had disappeared but he wasn’t sure where to. He was panting a little from the intensity that she forced him to dance.
Reid was eyeing him, a small smile on his lips. “Are you having fun?”
Morgan turned his attention to him, his eyes flickering over Reid’s face before meeting his gaze. Reid had to have another drink while he was dancing, for his face was more flushed than before. And he looked relaxed; something that Dr. Spencer Reid often didn’t have the time to be.
“I am,” Morgan agreed as he leaned towards his colleague, his best friend, his soulmate. His heart was pounding in his ears, his stomach doing small flips as he moved his chair into Reid’s personal space. He heard Reid inhale sharply, the young man’s eyebrows knitting together curiously. Morgan continued, his eyes once again flitting to Reid’s lips for a split second, “I think i might want to order another drink. How about you?”
Reid cleared his throat, his fingers drumming on his empty glass. “Maybe.”
“What did you have?”
“Something fruity. You probably wouldn’t have liked it,” Reid joked, laughing to himself, “It’s not a manly drink, by any means.”
“I don’t know,” Morgan eased himself a little closer, a lazy smile gracing his lips, “You should let me have a taste and then I’ll decide for myself.”
Reid blinked in surprise. If it were possible, his face seemed to grow redder, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed. Morgan knew that Reid wasn’t very good at picking up certain social cues, but he hoped that maybe he’d understand the hint. And if he didn’t? Then Morgan could pretend this never happened and they’d go back to being friends. No harm no foul.
“Are you implying that you want to kiss me?” Reid asked after a beat, his large brown eyes looking almost.. hopeful? Morgan swallowed thickly, his stomach filling with butterflies. God, he felt like a love struck teenager.
“I am, pretty boy,” he breathed, tasting the alcohol from earlier on his tongue, “if that’s something you want?”
It was Morgan’s turn to be surprised, as his Pretty Boy, his lanky little newborn foal who was always clumsy and getting hurt, had enough grace and strength to grab him by the collar and pull the two of the closer, their lips meeting in a hesitant kiss. It took a beat longer than he meant it to before Morgan’s brain caught up with his body, his hands shooting to the sides of Reid’s face and holding him there, tasting strawberries and peaches on his lips.
God, he was just as sweet as he imagined. Moreso. Perfect. Delicate. Morgan’s heart was racing a million miles a minute as his thoughts grew quiet, the only thing in the world right being him and his pretty boy.
From somewhere outside of their bubble he heard Emily say, “Finally,” but he ignored her. He felt Reid go to pull back, but his hands held him still, deepening the kiss.
It wasn’t exactly fireworks and fairy dust, because it was better. It was warmth and love and meaningful. Reid’s hands on his shoulders, his lips parting just enough that he could taste alcohol and fruit and sugar and everything that made Spencer Reid sweet.
Morgan finally pulled away, breathing heavily, swallowing. Reid’s pupils were blown, his lips more swollen now than he had ever seen them. He couldn’t help but chuckle, his thumbs tracing over the sharp cheekbones of his pretty boy. Reid just stared at him, panting.
Finally, Morgan spoke, “God, your lips are so soft.”
Reid’s lips quirked into a smile, his hands reaching up to cover Morgan’s, “I’ve been waiting for you to do that for months now”
“Months?”
Reid nodded, exhaling as his smile grew, “Yeah, ever since I noticed you staring at me more.”
“I was that obvious, huh?”
“Totally obvious,” Reid laughed softly. Morgan leaned forward and placed a chaste kiss on his lips, “Alright then,” another kiss, “I guess,” another kiss, “I have some time,” another one, this one tugging on Reid’s lower lips teasingly, “to make up for.”

Words: 2.372

A/N: This is my first time writting smut and I tried my best. Also, English is not my first nor second language so I’m sorry if there are grammar errors.
Thanks for reading.
Tumblr media
“Are y’all in for some drinks?” Morgan asked as everybody was packing for the day.
We had a case on New York that took us an intense week to solve and we had to do some paperwork that took us till 7 p.m. to finish at headquarters. On our way back in the plane we all had realized that we needed to release some tensions and Garcia suggested to go for a drink, or a few.
“Sure, I’m driving if anybody wants to go in my car.” I said while closing my purse and going towards the lift.
“I’m coming with you, Y/N.” Spencer said while running towards the open lift with Derek, Penelope and Emily following right after him.
“We could take two cars and if we get too drunk, we can grab a cab or something to get back home.” Emily announce excitedly.
“You sound ready for those drinks.” Penelope laughed.
“I need some shots.” Emily said as we exited the lift and go towards our cars.
“I’m so in for those shots.” I admitted and everybody murmured ‘same’.
Emily and Spencer got into my car while Penelope went with Morgan. JJ and Hotch went to their homes and Rossi had a date with a mysterious woman, so that left the 5 of us.
The ride to the bar lasted 10 minutes and in no time, we were sitting on a table taking our second shot. Spencer sat by my side on one booth and on the other one was Emily, Morgan and Penelope.
‘I would never let anybody voluntarily stick a needle in me. Hard pass.’ Said Emily loudly. When she was drunk she tended to shout without even realizing but we were all used to it.
Pen laughed and turned to me. ‘So, Y/N, have you ever wanted a tattoo?’ she asked while sipping on her Cosmo.
‘Uhm… I’ve never been into big tattoos, but I already have a small one.’ I admitted blushing a little. Nobody knew about my small tattoo that was high on my thigh, only a couple of people have seen it because well… I had been naked with them.
Spencer made a surprised sound and turned completely towards me. ‘I didn’t know that, Y/N.’ He frowned, which was totally understandable.
Spence and I were really close and we told each other everything. We became best friends over two years ago when I started at the bureau. Everybody always thought we had something because we were always in each other’s company. In reality, I was totally head over hills for him, but I knew he didn’t feel the same way.
I was so friend zoned.
It all happened after a case involving kids being kidnapped and sexually abused. It was really hard for me and Spencer knew so he was there for me after everything. He helped me getting my life back together, cleaning my house and helping me with the groceries. That’s when I knew it was more than a friendship, at least for me.
‘What do you have tattooed?’ Spence asked curiously. All the attention of the table was on me and I couldn’t help but blush even more.
‘It’s… kinda private. I haven’t told to anyone.’ I shrugged and sipped on my drink. ‘What about you, Spence? Ever thought of getting a tattoo?’ I ask to take the attention away from me and although Reid’s look told me that he would ask me again about that he toke the attention.
‘Even if I like tattoos, I wouldn’t know what to tattoo on me.’
‘And what about a piercing? You would look hot with an ear pierced.’ Before I could stop me, I blurted my first thought out loud without even realizing.
Fuck.
Spencer blushed hard and everybody at the table laughed and then went on to have their own conversation, leaving us to talk with a little privacy.
‘I never thought about that, but I do have a piercing.’ This time, it was me who turned my whole body towards him confused.
‘Where?’ I asked and his whole body language changed. He tensed and his blush went even harder.
As he toke a deep breath, he turned and neared his head to mine till there were just a few centimeters of distance between us. With his eyes fixed on mine he said with the most confidence voice I have ever heard ‘Wouldn’t you like to know.’ And then he smirked.
HE. FUCKING. SMIRKED.
His eyes went to my open mouth for a second and proceed to lick his lips, then turned to the deep conversation that the other three were into.
My panties were ruined with just 6 words. Holy fuck. And his voice… I’ve never heard it go that deep.
As the night carried on, he seemed to let everything slide and continue as nothing had ever happened, but my mind couldn’t forget what had just happened. Did that smirk meant what I think it meant? Did he have a piercing like… down there?
‘Guys, I think I’m gonna leave.’ I wasn’t even drunk anymore after that conversation with Reid so I would take my car.
As I said goodbye to everybody, I see Spencer grabbing his stuff too.
‘Do you mind taking me home?’
How the fuck could I say no to my best friend? “I’m sorry, I need to be as far from you as possible because I’m going to jump your bones if I do.”
‘Sure.’ I smiled forcefully.
As I’m driving towards his house, I sense Spence’s body turning to face me.
‘So, what and where do you have that tattoo?’ He smirked. ‘I told you about my piercing, it’s only fair you tell me about that tattoo.’
I hated him so fucking much right now.
‘Technically, you did not tell me where you have it. You just smirked.’
‘I can show it to you if you show me your tattoo.’ He proposed as I parked in front of his building.
I licked my lips and turned my body towards him, his face surprisingly close to mine. His eyes were fixed on my lips and my head was starting to hurt of how many thoughts per second I was having.
‘Fuck it.’ I said throwing my lips into his. One of his hands went directly to the back of my neck closing the space between us even more. As I gasped to the feeling of his full lips on mine, his tongue slid into my mouth and his other hand grabbed my ass. I couldn’t help but moan out loud after he bitted strongly my lower lip.
‘Wanna come inside?’ He asked breathlessly.
‘Hell yes.’
·
I don’t know how me made it into his apartment without touching each other but as he closed the door, he pushed me against it. His lips went directly into my neck and he dragged his teeth and tongue. I run my hands through his hair and pulling it strongly, earning a groan from him.
He liked that.
Noted.
His lips kept sliding down till they were almost on the coup of my bra.
‘I’m gonna strip you and look for the tattoo that has been on my head all fucking night. I had to hide a boner under the table because of it.’ I moaned at his words.
He broke my shirt open and undid my bra with just one hand.
‘Mhmm… So fucking beautiful.’ Said while looking at my boobs. He pinched one of my nipples watching it react at his touch and he smirked.
‘Fuck, Spencer. Do something.’
As those words left my lips, his mouth attacked one of my nipples while his hand was working on the other one. ‘I’m gonna mark you so bad, you’ll know to who these two belong to.’ I bitted my lip trying to not moan that loud, remembering we still were against his apartment door and it wasn’t difficult for somebody to hear us.
As if he knew what I was thinking, he left my now marked by hickies tits and kissed me gently on my lips. ‘Let’s go to my room.’ I nodded not trusting my voice to come out.
When we reached his bed, I was going to sit down but he stopped me grabbing me from my waist.
‘I still haven’t finished stripping you, baby.’
‘Then what are you waiting for?’ I arched my eyebrow with some newfound confidence. He smirked and kneeled in front of me taking my pants and my black panties with him. His eyes went to my thigh, next to my core.
Taste me.
That’s what was written with ink on my skin.
‘Fuck, Y/N. It’s even better than I thought.” He groaned. “But, now I have to obey, right?” He smirked while looking me into my eyes and launching towards the lips of my pussy without waiting for an answer.
Shit.
His tongue went directly to my clitoris making forms around it while a finger entered me.
‘You are so wet. I think my cock would slip just right through you.’
He felt how I was struggling to keep enough strength on my legs to stand there. He grabbed the bag of one leg and putting it on his shoulder. This new position let him dig deeper into my core and introduced the second finger into me.
‘Spencer, I’m so close. Stop.’ I plead but he didn’t listen.
‘I want to fully taste you, baby. Give in.’ With those words, his tongue lapping my clitoris and his third finger entering me, I came undone. I tried to lower my last scream by biting my lip so hard it surprised me that it didn’t bleed, but it didn’t work.
‘Fuck Spence.’ He kept me riding through my orgasm and then, he stopped. Instead of cleaning the rest of my juices that remained on his lips, he stood up and went directly to my upper set of lips.
‘I want you to taste yourself. You taste like heaven, Y/N.’ His lips went crashed into mines and his tongue didn’t wait to introduce herself again to my mouth. The sweetness on his lips made me moan against his lips.
‘Now, it’s your turn, Pretty Boy.’ I said while pushing him into his bed. He still was fully dressed, which I couldn’t comprehend. ‘You have so many clothes on.’
‘Then… fix it.’ He wettened his lips.
I toke his shirt off and launched towards his neck while sitting on his lap with both my thighs surrounding his legs. His louds groans made me know that he liked the attention that I was giving to his neck and I bitted his earlobe.
‘Holy shit. You need to stop that, or I will come into my pants. You don’t know how long I’ve waited for this.’ I smirked and left his neck to look into his marvelous brown eyes.
‘What are we waiting for, then?’ I replied and he launched to my lips again. My hands travelled through his abdomen and unbuckled his belt and unbuttoned his pants. I separated from his lips earning a groan from his part and I laughed. ‘I have to take this out of the way, Pretty Boy.’
He tossed me into the bed, and I laid on my back while watching him taking his pants off and then his boxers.
‘Reid, what the fuck?’ I said without thinking. His erected member stood there, larger than the average. But I wasn’t shocked just because of his size but for the piece of metal that stood at the tip of his cock. ‘That must have hurt.’ I approached it and take it in my hand.
He moaned through his lips at the touch of my hand. ‘It hurt like a motherfucker, but it was worth it. Not for personal pleasure…’ His body laying on top of mine while his hands stopped at both sides of my head keeping his full weight to fall onto me. ‘but for the woman’s pleasure.’ His words made me moan and I was soaking wet again. His eyes softened for a second and his hand cupped my cheek. ‘You don’t know how fucking beautiful you look flushed because you’re hot and needy.’
‘Spencer, I need you. Now.’ Without arguing his cock entered me without hesitation and slipped right through into the deepness of my core. We both moaned at the same time.
‘You feel so fucking good, Y/N. You feel so tight around me.’ His voice coming out like a growl and we stopped for a few seconds to get me adjusted to his size. Instead of pulling out he went even deeper and his piercing met my G-spot.
‘Oh my fucking god.’ I screamed and Spence chuckled.
He pulled his cock completely out and messed with his piercing circling my clitoris.
‘Once I start, I’m gonna be rough, baby. And I won’t last long.’
‘Reid, fuck me already.’
He didn’t wait a second more and pushed himself onto me again and kept going deep and hard. His mouth went to bite and suck my tits and I was a moaning mess again. My hand went to my clitoris to help me get ready as his breathe became heavier.
‘I’m ready, Spence. Come inside me.’ I said between sharp breathes.
After those words, he lifted his head and closed his eyes as I felt his warm cum filling me up. Slowing down, his hand went where mine was and helped me come right after him. The second orgasm left me breathless and my whole body trembled.
He left his whole weight fall on me while his breathe was getting steady again. He lifted himself and laid by my side.
‘That was fucking amazing, Y/N.”
I turned to look into his eyes and smiled.
‘I also have been waiting for this to happen for a long time, Spence.’
His eyes softened and his hand started caressing my hair, that I’m sure looked like a mess.
‘Well, I’m sure that now that I had a taste of you, I can’t live without having it every day.’
‘That won’t be a problem, sir.’ I answered while going for his lips.
This is heaven right here.

Spencer Reid + BAU friends, ranked
(this is just my opinion pls don’t come for me!)
13.
Tumblr media
TARA LEWIS
I love her, she’s a badass, and i like to think they bonded over being super smart doctors, but i also think they had perhaps 3 scenes together and so i don’t ever think abt their friendship really
12.
Tumblr media
MATT SIMMONS
Kind of the same reason as Tara, i don’t think they ever really had many scenes together, but i like to think spencer played with his kids and some of them got involved in the ‘spencer, garcia, and godkids” weekend every few months. also matt’s scene in that one episode abt addiction was really sweet and i can see him comforting and helping spencer
11.
Tumblr media
JENNIFER JAREAU
ooooh controversial? idk they have never had good friendship chemistry, she was low-key mean to him sometimes, i mean they’re fine and i genuinely do like JJ, but the way they framed ‘spence and jj are besties!!’ when there were so many other better friendships just feels unnatural
10.
Tumblr media
KATE CALLAHAN
They didn’t have a whole load of scenes but their very first one is very cute, i liked that they bonded over trauma without it being super sad, and he was so happy for her when she got pregnant!! so cute
9.
Tumblr media
JASON GIDEON
season 1 and the first half of season 2 was very cute and i like the idea of gideon guiding spencer through the academy, and it’s cute how well they knew each other, but he just had to go ignore his addiction and leave him like his father did huh
8.
Tumblr media
DAVID ROSSI
rossi has many, many flaws but one of the positives is that he didn’t baby spencer and i loved when he helped him grieve maeve. i also like that we saw a lot of improvement with how he treated him bc it was really realistic, what with judging him at the start and then by the end he understood him a lot better
7.
Tumblr media
ELLE GREENWAY
they’re just plain cute. she actually listened to him and didn’t baby him a whole lot, they definitely hooked up, and i love the fics that have them phoning each other throughout the series and elle supporting spencer bc she was glad she got out, but that didn’t mean she would force him to go as well
6.
Tumblr media
AARON HOTCHNER
they were so cute, hotch was obviously the dad figure but i like that he was the most consistent one (even if he eventually left but we ignore that), he’s also one of the most tolerant ones who rarely shouted or got annoyed at him, and i think they both just had a really good understanding of each other
5.
Tumblr media
DEREK MORGAN
babies! there were for sure a few moments between the two that deeply annoyed me but that’s the same with any character, i’m weak for banter and so the two of them having prank wars and nicknames for each other was always going to be my downfall. and don’t even get me started on morgan naming his son after him, get outta here with that cute pretty boy shit
4.
Tumblr media
LUKE ALVEZ
i don’t think he’d have been as high as this if he’d been in the series the whole time, but i adore their friendship purely because he came right as spencer most needed someone like him and never once hesitated to help him. there was 0 reason why he should throw his support so firmly behind spencer when they’d only known each other for a really short period of time, but he did and it helped and i love him for that
top 3 coming in the retweet because i’ve reached the photo limit!

gif credit: nobravery on tumblr!
pairing: spencer reid x female! reader
summary: you work at the BAU and are best friends with everybody, except spencer. you think he just doesn’t like you until one day, he proves you wrong.
warnings: just some minor hints of sadness, reader going through something, nothing major or specific.
author’s note: ah yes I did miss writing and spencer reid has my heart entirely. stay safe guys! ALSO I’M BARELY ON SEASON 3 SO YA’LL BETTER NOT SPOIL ANYTHING ISTG LMAO
-------
working in the BAU, your job was never boring. five months in had changed your outlook on almost anything and everything in your life, and had your mind now racing at what seemed like a million miles per minute. it was an exhilarating  experience, regardless of how crude the crime scene could be, and it was about time you came to terms with that.
the BAU team was just as thrilled to have you with them as you were to join. nobody expected-or wanted- a new member, and were ready to reject your application when they finally met you for the interview. however, after you demonstrated to everyone that you could profile a serial killer based on only the amount of blood at the scene and position of the victim, everyone basically wanted to give you the “welcome tour” of the headquarters.
after you finally got an opportunity to get used to the layout of the job and your training ended, the team always looked forward to your “good morning” notes on their desk. being an early bird, you got there before everyone so you could get ahead on your reports, and always left small notes of encouragement on the person’s desk. it was a small and sweet gesture, and very much needed for the severity of the job.
“seriously, this girl must be doing some type of hypnosis or something to everybody here. why is it that every time I see her, I just wanna hug her, huh?”
“not hypnosis, morgan. just plain ol’ appreciation,” jj said. they were huddled around his desk as they all read a note that said: “always keep your head up, champ. we appreciate the work you do around here :)”
by then, he was the last of the bunch to read his card. however, he didn't have a gold star attached to it, which meant he wasn’t the “agent of the day” as you liked to phrase it. derek flipped the sticky note over and attempted to find it, but stopped when he realized he wasn’t it.
“wait, guys, so if I didn’t get a star, who did?” morgan asked, clearly puzzled. garcia shook her head and pouted, jj simply put a thumbs down, and prentiss muttered a “nope.” everyone knew hotch didn’t get it, because they figured he would call you in privately to thank you. everyone turned to look at you work in the conference room through the window. you were scribbling something on the whiteboard and had papers scattered everywhere on the table, unaware of the team’s puzzled expressions. at that moment, spencer walked through the double glass doors of the bureau and headed over to his desk as he normally would. as he did so, he found the team huddled together and looking at something, and when he followed their gaze he knew what this was about.
in truth, spencer never really cared for having a friendship with you. he looked at you as a coworker and just that, and developing a platonic relationship with you just wasn't anywhere in his mind. he did enjoy the words of encouragement and motivation every morning, though, and no matter how many phases of denial he went through, he looked for it as soon as he reached his desk.
“hey, guys, wanna hear something I discovered about dolphins last night?” spencer teased as he made his way over to morgan’s desk. nobody turned their heads from your direction, and it wasn't until reid mentioned your note that everyone stopped profiling you and turned their attention to him.
“you guys wanna hear-yeah that’s what I thought-wanna hear my note (y/n) left me?” he held up the sticky note and everyone nodded eagerly. he turned the note so he was able to read it, and began. “ ‘the world is smart, but you’re smarter. have a great day, reid!’ how cool is this!” he smiled and at that point so did everyone, when they realized that the note still had more to it.
“oh my god, reid! you got the gold star! congratulations sunshine,” garcia pointed out as she gave him a light punch on the shoulder. spencer’s mind started bouncing back and forth between thoughts when he looked at the tiny gold sticker below your comment. did this mean anything? should he mention it?
the answer to that was yes, he should, but was he going to? probably not. pats on the back were given as the team got up from morgan’s desk and headed to their own when hotch came out of his office and told everyone to meet in the conference room in five to look over a new case. reid, as he walked back to his pile of reports, looked at you working on your own. he never really thought of you as a friend, and didn't want to for that matter. but the longer he looked at you he started to realize that maybe befriending you wouldn't be so horrible. as everyone entered the room and gave you a hug or cheery greeting, spencer opted to sit at the other end of you. but one thing was for sure: his smile was the brightest one in the room.
the next few weeks went by quickly, and included a variety of new “agents’ of the day.” after reid, there was morgan, who practically wanted to kiss you after that. emily followed, who was beginning to turn into one of your closest friends. jj and garcia came next, and soon the four of you founded a girl’s night out every weekend.
however, them being the best profilers in the entire bureau, they noticed that the notes progressively stopped. the team realized something was off with you, and they noticed that your demeanor was different. you began to come later than you usually did, at one point even later than derek. your hairstyle changed to a messier bun, your desk was worse than reid’s, and no more cute notes were seen for almost two weeks.
“something’s wrong, you guys. she’s been here for months and she’s never once frowned or even forgot to put the cap back on her pen,” emily said, packing her files in her briefcase. jj nodded her head, “yeah I know, and I want to ask but I don’t want to make her uncomfortable. I mean, what if we’re reading too much into it?”
“reading into it? jj, we profile murderers who we’ve never even met, I’m pretty sure (y/n)’s going through something,” morgan stated, standing up from his chair and pushing it in adequately.
“we know one thing: when she’s ready to vent, we’ll be here. in the meantime, we should go home and get some rest. we fly out to oregon tomorrow,” hotch said. everyone agreed, and they stood up and gathered their belongings and headed for the exit door. they waved and said their goodbye’s to you, who was seated at the other end of the room.
you were the only one left at the bureau, and you were more tired than usual due to your lack of sleep recently. you closed your eyes, took a couple of deep breaths, and began to massage your temples with your pointer fingers. it’s been tough for you, taking care of your grandparents ever since they came to live with you. arguments with your mother always lead to the same thing: leaving. you loved them, and you adored having family with you, especially in a job like the one you had. but you had to sacrifice your sleep and wellbeing in order for them to be safe.
you were so concentrated in your thoughts that you didn’t hear footsteps coming down the stairs, moving towards your direction, and finally coming to a complete stop next to your desk. it wasn't until a soft voice broke you from your thoughts, or more so from your nap at that point.
“(y/n)?”
you lifted your head rapidly, and looked up to find the source of the voice, and when you did, you managed to slur, “reid, what the hell, I, uh, thought I was the only one left.
“no, I was just catching up on my reports and was about to go home. by the looks of it, you should too.”
“alright, catch you in the morning, spence. I still gotta finish this case file,” you were looking at him now, and as you spoke you gave a tiny nod to your opened manila folder. “wait you’re staying later? do you know how dangerous it is for girls of your type to be out at these hours of the night? I read a study once that determined women who wandered at night suffered the most danger between the hours of 1 a.m. to 4 a.m.. I mean you don't want to put yourself-”
“I'm not gonna be long, dr. reid, I think I’ll be fine,” you cut him off mid fact. you returned to your paperwork and picked up your pen to write some notes on the margin, and when you looked back up a couple minutes later, you found reid staring at you, confusion clearly manifesting over his features.
‘I suggest offering you a seat, sir. that way you can look at me in distress as long as you like,” you let yourself chuckle a little bit, and even though it made spencer want to laugh too, he restrained himself and asked you what had troubled him for weeks now.
“(y/n), what’s going on? you’re not the same since garcia got the last morning note from you. seriously, I-I’m here to help you.”
dropping your pen, you swiveled your chair so you were in his direction and looked up at him to answer him. “in all honesty, and by no means full offense, I don’t think you care what’s going on with me.”
in his mind, reid was going nuts, and his silence? not helping very much. all he could do was look down at you with a shocked expression and his mouth opened and closed before he finally rebutted your statement.
“(y/n), I’m sorry I made it seem that way. I really am and the truth is I didn’t really care for your notes at first until I stopped receiving them.” he crouched down now to level with your height on the chair, a hand laying on his knee and the other on the ground for balance.
“I didn’t really care for a friend, until I realized I wanted your friendship. I never even thanked you for giving me the privilege of being ‘agent of the day.’”
you realized he meant it, and it wasn’t some cheesy reponse you were so used to getting. he felt it, and you began to realize you could also trust him even a little.
“thanks, reid. sorry for lashing out too, it’s just things haven’t been so easy back home. do you mind?”
“of course not. I’m all ears, (y/n).” you nodded and thanked him, standing up from your chair and kneeling down to ultimately sit down criss cross on the ground. he did the same as you, and his attention was fully yours.
you told him everything that had happened; the fights with your mom, your grandparents moving in, your lack of sleep and how you felt. you vented to him about almost everything in your life and he listened like his life depended on it. at the end, you were crying a little no matter how hard you tried not to. amidst everything, he had pulled you into an awkward sort of hug, considering your position and the fact he doesn't give much physical affection to people. nonetheless, he gave you the comfort you needed and you valued it.
he pulled away suddenly, and lifted himself off the ground a little to get his phone from his pocket. he asked you to get yours, and you did so by reaching over to the top of your desk. the both of you exchanged phones and he wrote his rather rapidly, you still trying to think about your own area code by the time he was finished.
you exchanged phones again, and when you grabbed yours from his hand, he held on to it as well. before he let go, he looked down at the ground and then landed on your hand on the phone.
“you can call me whenever you want. even if you don’t have a reason too.”
his eyes flicked up to your semi-red eyes, and he smiled softly. you did as well, and he felt small butterflies forming in his tummy when you did. spencer reid didn’t care for affection, nor for personal connections with anyone. but perhaps you were beginning to turn into the only exception.
and he didn't really mind it at all.
