|| Gonna put this under read more cuz no one likes to read drama on the dash:
|| I honestly don't believe that huntress mun ever sent those asks or was faking them because a similar thing happened to fortheloveofscifi. Like the person pretending to be them would send anon hate to multiple blogs then tag the blog they're pretending to be?
Tumblr media
I mean, if you're gonna send anon hate, you'd want to stay anonymous in order to avoid the consequences, ya know? Like why would you want to get caught? From what I know too is that both their blogs are main blogs so if they are just going to send the messages like its from them then why bother using anon? Just for clarification, this message occurred before huntress' harassment. August 16th-17th to be exact to give everyone a better time frame.
Plus a similar thing happened to me when my harraser would make multiple blogs and reblog the post 20-30 different times and send like 20 messages saying the same thing. I know how annoying that is which is the same pattern they're doing for some people.
I guess another thing too is that people don't like them for the subjects they write about. Perfectly fine. Don't have to interact with them. Everyone is entitled to having their comfort zone of which subjects they are comfortable with. Personally, I'm not fond of the dark subjects like that myself as I would like to avoid the topic of SA so I avoid any posts marked as such. Just unfollow or block and that's it. Like done, done.
I've only met them for a week, I think? They came to my IMs, they confided in me that this is how they cope on their past traumas. If this is how they cope then I'm not going to tell them how they should cope since I'm not a licensed therapist. Not my blog, can't tell them what to do or what to write about. I do believe that they should have put those subjects under readmore as not everyone feels that way about writing/reading content talking about SA on the dash or maybe have a better tagging system. But like I said though, can't tell them what to do.
This is just my two cents on the recent drama(s).

Edward Kenway for character asks!
ooooooo okay i should open this with a disclaimer: i have not finished black flag yet (about 2/3 of the way through i think? i need to level up my ship so i can beat the next story mission lol) so everything i'm saying here is based on the game up to thatch's death, and everything we know about edward in ac 3: forsaken and the comics that came out a couple years ago.
First impression
oh boy... to be honest, one of the reasons it took me such a long time to get around to playing black flag (it was one of the first ps4 games i bought when i got my console in 2016, and i didn't start until about a month ago) was because i didn't really feel particularly strongly about edward's character design. i was vaguely interested in That One Pirate Assassin Game after having watched (and loved) black sails, but was afraid i would be let down; to me edward just looked like Some Dude, and i was still hung up on the black sails gang. to me, black sails and its characters were so genre/time period-defining that any other piece of pirate media just seemed lackluster in comparison.
i'd also heard a lot of praise for edward and for ac4 in general so i was aware that it was a very popular and well-received game. but since i mostly heard that from reddit (didn't join tumblr ac fandom until odyssey in 2018) i kind of discounted it, bc gamer reddit tastes are... questionable at best.
Impression now
I LOVE HIM!!! i always think i want stories about virtuous characters who believe in goodness and kindness and aren't motivated by gold or glory but aren't afraid to do what needs to be done to help others who can't help themselves. and sometimes that's true (coughratonhnhake:toncough). other times i end up clowning on myself because i realize that it's so much fun when said good/kind character has a rough and rugged exterior, and is motivated by personal gain (i think edward and kassandra are kinda kindred spirits across time and space in that regard, but maybe that's another rant for another time). sometimes you just want someone to be a little bit of an opportunistic bastard, and boy does edward fit that to a T. he's an incredibly complex man, and i think what really got me was that even as he was impersonating assassins and then templars and then assassins again, all for personal gain (pickpocketing the templars in havana while he gains their trust and agrees to do their dirty work lmfao my beloved <3), his primary motivation for doing so was to prove to caroline and her family that he is someone worth a damn, that he is capable of great things and that he is worthy of their love and acceptance. and i know from ac forsaken that the marriage with caroline doesn't last (though i haven't played ac4 far enough to see if that happens on screen, or if it occurs between the game and the novel) which makes his backstory in the game all the more heartbreaking. but his optimism and perseverance and determination to prove himself are all what make me love him.
so that's edward the romantic. now let's talk about the way edward is with adewale, his crew, and his friends. and let's also put the rest of this behind a readmore bc girl i am RANTINGGGGGG
he has several lines that he says to adewale that make me physically cringe (namely: "many of [these men] wouldn't accept you as captain" or "what was it like being enslaved?" like i get that someone like edward would be asking that question in good faith and genuine curiosity but also JESUS CHRIST UBISOFT). but on the flip side - cringey as those questions are, he also takes the time to actually listen and learn, and i think he genuinely values the perspective that he gets from adewale allowing him to open these lines of trust and communication. there's a patience and mutual respect there that i adore.
i also love how much edward loves his crew and his other pirate friends. those scenes of him + kidd + thatch + adewale + hornigold (lol) drinking on the beach and having a grand old time and talking about establishing - to borrow one of my favorite chills-down-my-spine phrases from black sails - a nation of thieves, for people like them to live and prosper, free from the chokehold of civilization. and i know he's not as outwardly invested in counterculture/independence/anticolonialism as thatch and vane and kidd are, but the fact that he so wholeheartedly supports his friends' goals, lofty and impossible as they are, speaks volumes about his love for his friends.
Favorite moment
every scene he has with kidd when kidd casually and softly reminds him that they see that he is a good person beneath his opportunistic and rambunctious exterior. i especially love when they discover julien du casse's mansion containing orders for templars to go out and hunt down assassins: the way kidd immediately knows that edward wants to help the assassins as a way to make up for the damage he did while masquerading as a templar, even if he hasn't voiced it aloud himself. the way that they don't force edward to admit anything about himself before he is ready, but still constantly remind him that he has a good heart. they give him space to come to terms with his compassionate side in a world/environment that more often than sees compassion as something to be stamped out or cast aside. i don’t love when characters are forced to be the Moral Compass for a main dude character, but i think it works for edward and kidd.
Idea for a story
not an edward story per se, but there are 2 povs into edward's life that i would cut off (someone else's) limbs for:
jenny's pov growing up in the kenway household. from haytham's pov it seems that she knows way more about his past than haytham ever did (it was hinted at that there are rumors about edward’s past as haytham was growing up that he wasn’t privy to, but i don’t think at any point in the novel does haytham ever find out definitively that his father was a pirate) and i want to know how she knew so much, and more into what her life was like - through her eyes rather than haytham, who is like 10 years younger and by his own admission barely understands her and barely has a functional relationship with her. i'll expand further on edward and jenny in the next question/prompt/bullet point, actually, bc i have a LOT more to say.
connor's pov learning about his grandfather from... idk? who's around to tell him? what's so goddamn sad is that by the time connor rebuilds the colonial brotherhood he's kinda the only one left. sure there's aveline down in louisiana, but as far as we know everyone who was around in edward's generation is dead now, and i'm not sure how much of the kenway saga is preserved for connor to discover, or if all this information about their family line was discovered in the modern-day, by your abstergo employee character, and later by osto berg in the comics. which is why i so badly want a revelations-style game where connor traces his assassin heritage back to the caribbean, relives some of edward's memories, and then makes the trip to london to see his aunt jenny. it would have been such a cool way to round out the kenway saga.
Unpopular opinion
idk how popular or unpopular this is bc i rarely see other in-depth posts about it on my dash, but edward was a terrible father to jenny. he was every bit the wonderful and loving father to haytham for the 10 years that haytham had a father, but i wish we'd seen more of jenny's perspective than just a few lines of dialogue in haytham's diary: i hate the way edward sidelined her and raised her in the same manner that any other wealthy person of the time would have raised their daughter - that is, for the sole purpose of sitting pretty and marrying her off in an arrangement that would benefit the family. it's especially hard to reconcile because in ac4 there are female assassins in the americas, and there are female pirates in the caribbean, so it's not like edward isn't aware that women have as much right as any man to live life on their own terms. it just seems like by the time he returns to england and settles down with his family, he's reverted back to the societal norms and gender roles that the pirates fought (and lost) against, and it's hard not to be deeply disappointed by that.
to be clear, i don't begrudge edward settling down and becoming a Rich Society Man. dude deserves to live comfortably with his loving family. he has every right to dote on his wife and children, and leave behind the hardships of being a pirate. but i think "fightning against deeply-ingrained cultural norms/expectations is a long and bloody struggle, and after losing so many people he cared so deeply about, i think it's understandable that edward wouldn't want to continue that fight alone (and also adewale is still fighting the good fight) (do NOT @ me about ac rogue I Pretend I Do Not See It)" and "i don't love the way edward sidelined his daughter into societally-expected gender roles she did not want; it makes me think that he did not continue drinking his Respect Women Juice as much as i thought he did/wanted him to" are two opinions that can coexist.
Favorite relationship
i don't know that i ship edward romantically with anyone, actually. i thought he and caroline were cute in the beginning, but it's hard to want to ship them knowing that she leaves him eventually. and ofc there'd edward/tessa in ac forsaken, and we know they were very happy together and that he loved her so so much. but we don't see that relationship except through haytham's eyes.
as for non-romantic relationships, i already talked at length above about his relationships with adewale and the other pirates and kidd, and i'll just leave it at that. i'm also vaguely aware that edward's got some upcoming scenes with anne bonny, but i'm not at that point in the game yet so i don't have much to say about the two of them. so far i've only seen them say a few lines to each other at the nassau tavern.
Favorite headcanon
kassandra absolutely rubbed shoulders with edward at some point during his time in the caribbean; i like to think that she needed to lie low for some reason (maybe she was with the assassins idk) and joined his crew. i just need my best stabby gal and my second-favorite stabby dude to be pals!
finally, this isn't a headcanon per se but it is obligatory that any time i talk about kenways i yell for a bit about the fact that EDWARD WOULD HAVE LOVED CONNOR SO SO SO MUCH AND I'M FOREVER DEVASTATED THAT HE NEVER GOT TO MEET HIM. at the same time, if edward hadn't been murdered and haytham not been indoctrinated into the templars the way he had, i'm not sure connor would even have existed. and in a way i'm glad that edward wasn't around to see how broken and cynical and depressed haytham became, because i think that would have absolutely broken his heart.
send me a character!

so, i’ve yet to introduce this character properly on this blog though the nature of her existence has been hinted to throughout some of my RP’s.
I’ll be going into the nature of spirits and how Lumina falls into that category, but in doing so i will be discussing a few major/minor spoilers for the Re:Zero Frozen Bonds movie. If you would like to avoid spoilers for it i’ll be putting it under a readmore. This has been your warning.
Tumblr media
What you see here is Melaquera, the former Great Spirit of Fire, who has since lost its title to Puck. Melaquera is known as an Arbitrator, and sees himself as a judge upon a world in need of mediation. Unfortunately for him, he has become heavily invested in his own biased judgement, and whenever he may deem something as a threat to the world he seeks to eradicate it using any means necessary.
After his defeat at the hands of Puck, the world had essentially lost is arbitrator. With Puck holding the title of the Great Spirit of Fire as well as the Beast of the End, this meant that the title of Arbitrator remained.
To spirits, a title is important to them. It is their identity, the very nature of its existence. To Melaquera, holding both the title of Arbitrator and the Great Spirit of Fire was a honor very very rarely owned by other spirits. Lesser spirits often looked up to these individuals as both a milestone as well as a personal goal should they seek to own that title themselves.
Lumina is a spirit whose natural affinity is aligned with light magic, which is a very rare form of magic within the Re:Zero universe. The very nature of Light magic is mysterious in and of itself, but whereas dark magic is responsible for debuffing, light magic specializes in buffing. Light and Dark-aligned spirits are about as rare as the very magic they specialize in, thus, when Lumina stepped in to try to fill in the role as an Arbitrator, she found that triumphing over other lesser spirits was not as hard as she’d thought it’d be.
Weighing her power against that of other spirits fighting to claim the title of Arbitrator, Lumina was easily able to take the reigns due to her unnatural gift and her mysterious, supernatural abilities. When she had claimed the title of Arbitrator, she found that a very heavy responsibility had fallen onto her shoulders. With the title comes the responsibility to judge.
Spirits who own titles oftentimes carry out duties affiliated with their title, and in this case, Lumina would have no choice but to judge and enact punishments upon those who need to be punished. However, unlike Melaquera, who often judged based off of his own personal feelings towards the matter, Lumina sought to enact judgement not based upon her own bias, but whether or not her retribution would be logically needed in any given scenario. Thus, she had her own set of rules set in place for herself in order to ensure that her judgement would not indirectly place the world at risk:
The Arbitrator’s duty is to protect the world.
None may acknowledge the Arbitrator lest the Arbitrator wills it
The Arbitrator must remain neutral and unbiased. There may be no personal gain involved with the nature of their decisions. There may be no personal feelings involved with the nature of their decisions.
The Arbitrator retains the right to judge whether or not the actions of an individual or a group of people could be potentially hazardous to the well-being of the world.
If an individual, groups of individuals, or an organized collective commits an act that could potentially lead to a world-ending calamity, retribution is required.
If the act of retribution with the targeted group would cause similar damage to the world, alternative means to interfere must be acquired.
The Arbitrator may utilize the actions of other individuals in order to prevent a potential calamity. Through these means, the individuals are forbidden from speaking of their relation to the Arbitrator.  In the event that the individuals are destroyed in a manner which does not guarantee the safety of the world, the Arbitrator may use the power of Return By Death to restore them to a previously healthy state.
If all else fails, the Arbitrator may utilize their own judgement to decide which method will best prevent a world-ending calamity from occurring. The safety of the world far outweighs any other necessary sacrifice for preservation.
Using these laws that she had developed when accepting the title of Arbitrator, Lumina now watches closely over the world, overseeing its various events and happenings, judging whether or not divine interference is needed in order to sustain the world’s safety. The very nature of her being commands respect from those who have acknowledged her existence in the past. She has only made it known to very select individuals that she exists, but in most cases, they end up forgetting they had any form of relationship with her to begin with.
In a currently-developing story with @cadcnce , @dekirukoto , and @selftaughtsamurai , Lumina has determined that the simultaneous existence of Satella’s influence and HOD’s influence could become an imminent threat to the world’s safety, especially when taken to consideration the existence of other entities such as Zeyrfial existing simultaneously. She has chosen Wylan as her Arbiter and guides him towards a fate that would surely be better than what would happen if she were to let these entities roam around as they pleased.
To make a long post short, the nature of titles are just as important to spirits as their oaths taken whenever they are created or whenever they form a contract. Just as Puck will eventually attempt to destroy as the world due to his title of The Beast of the End, Lumina holds her title as the Arbitrator in that she will enact judgement upon anything that may threaten the world. There may eventually come a day where she will have to either prevent Puck from destroying the world herself, or set things in motion such that Puck never attempts to do so in the first place.
I will be making another post some time soon discussing the nature of spirits and what classifies an entity as either a normal or artificial spirit.
Keep in mind that this post was HEAVILY HEADCANON-INSPIRED and the primary reason for me making this post is because Tappei refuses to make things simplified or direct so i apparently have to do that for him >:T

SIMS 4: BASSINET STUCK OUT OF BOUNDS & WAYS TO FIX IT
hello!!!! i’m making this post because i experienced this glitch last night and had a LOT of trouble finding solutions that achieved what i wanted, so i wanted to document which things worked for me and the pros/cons of each solution, so that maybe someone down the line won’t have to pull their hair out as much as i did about it!!!
here’s the glitch: you have an infant, you move your household to a new empty lot, the infant and her bassinet spawns in one of the far corners of the lot OUT OF BOUNDS. like this!
Tumblr media
(this is cassidy. say hi cassidy!)
by ‘out of bounds’ i mean the bassinet and infant (both of which are considered an “object”) have spawned off the lot grid, as pictured above. from what i was googling, most people experience this in such a way where during live play, the bassinet is still completely accessible and your sims can interact with it like normal—but when you switch to build mode, you can’t select it to move it around the lot. effectively, the baby is stuck in the middle of nowhere!
first, i wanted to address the PREVENTATIVES i found. if you HAVEN’T had this problem and want to avoid it in the future, this should keep it from happening!
place the required number of bassinets for your household’s infants on the lot IN ADVANCE. i had triplets, for example, so i needed three bassinets for the babies to default to before moving the household into the lot. if you don’t do this, the infants will spawn their OWN bassinets randomly on the lot, and this was what led to one baby spawning out of bounds. side note: this MAY not be necessary if there is at least ONE FUNCTIONAL ROOM on the lot. i moved to an empty lot, so there was no ‘obvious’ place to put the infants, but i noticed during my troubleshooting that when i moved to a lot with a house already built on it, the two unglitched babies spawned inside the house, even though there were no preplaced bassinets and, theoretically, they could’ve spawned anywhere. i THINK, but cannot CONFIRM, the game might look for functional shelter first when deciding where to auto-spawn a bassinet, and if it finds shelter, it will spawn the bassinet inside of it. if it doesn’t, it will pick a random corner of the lot (when moving households, at least), and that’s when the glitch can occur.
DON’T MOVE HOUSEHOLDS WITH INFANTS. DOH! as explained above, i think you can prevent this glitch by following the precautions i wrote there, but the other, very simple way to avoid the issue is wait until the infants are toddlers who you can command to move back into bounds, and who the parents can move around the lot! this ties into something i explain a bit later about ‘toddlers’ counting as sims, but infants counting as ‘objects’.
second, some things i tried after the glitch was in effect that DIDN’T work, in case these are things you’ve ruled out too and are looking for answers that AREN’T the following:
‘resetSim FirstName LastName’ cheat did not work! the reason for this is actually because infants are considered ‘objects’ by the game, not sims, so they can’t be affected by cheats.
moving the household back out and into another lot in the same world (in this case glimmerbrook) did not work! the rest of the family would appear on the lot correctly, but the infant was still stuck out of bounds on the OLD lot.
‘reset object (debug)’, accessible by entering ‘testingcheats true’ into the console and shift-left-clicking almost anything, did not work! sometimes if a sim, object, etc gets stuck or glitched, you can use this to forcibly reset them. unfortunately, this didn’t have any effect on the glitched bassinet.
deleting the bassinet did not work! again, the bassinet is completely unselectable in build mode, which means you can’t ‘pick it up’ and delete it. the hammer also won’t register it as something to destroy, treating it like just hitting the grass.
now we can move onto things that DID work. each one has its own pros and cons, so i’ll start with the one that was CLOSEST to the outcome i wanted, and go through the others that WORKED but not how i wanted too, because some of these may be more or less what YOU want from your solution! i’ll dump it all under the readmore now, i think i’ve left enough out for keyword searches to catch. :)
RECOVER YOUR SAVE. this was both the most satisfying fix i found and also the LAST one i found, because i’m dumb and forgot save recovery exists. >:/ if you’re unfamiliar with this feature, go to the main menu, click ‘load game’ and find the save file with your glitched baby in it! there will be an option in the bottom right to ‘recover saves’, where a list of past saves with timestamps can be found. restoring one of these past saves will create a new save file called ‘SaveName [Recovered]’—it WILL NOT overwrite the existing save file, so you can test it out safely without making things even worse. while this allowed me to revert to a past point in my game before the glitch ever occurred and then take the preventative precautions i mentioned earlier, this DOES hinge on you having a recent save handy. i happened to save my game before moving the household (and putting all the stuff i wanted to keep in their household inventory, oops. had to do that twice), so i didn’t lose any progress except the time spent trying to undo the glitch. but if you encounter this issue after, say, 4+ hours of unsaved progress, this may not be a satisfactory solution! that’s why i’m listing the other fixes i found; they were less good for me, but may be better for your specific situation!
MOVE THE HOUSEHOLD TO ANOTHER WORLD. you MUST move them into a town/world that ISN’T the one the baby is glitched in. this will force all infants to appear on the new lot in the new world; doing this in conjunction with the preventative measures above should stop the glitch from repeating! this solution doesn’t require a recent save, which is definitely a bonus if you’re like me and usually FORGET to save for long periods. the downside is you probably wanted that family to live in the OLD world, not the new one, so depending on how important that is to you, this may not be an ideal solution. (additionally, a ‘duplicate’ of the glitched infant and bassinet appeared to remain in the old world, so future use of that lot may still result in a random baby in the corner of your property. it’s little weird.)
AGE UP THE INFANT INTO A TODDLER. some reports i found while researching for solutions suggested this wasn’t possible, but i was able to do it in my case, so if you can in yours, it’s definitely a fix with its own merits! doing this would allow you to remain in the world and lot you wanted, which is a pretty noteworthy plus. the downside is the bassinet will remain stuck out of bounds. you won’t be able to delete it or move it, so even though you’ve got your lot and world you wanted, the bassinet will still be there. watching. waiting. but at least you saved your baby!
none of these are perfect solutions, as they depend either on preventative measures in advance (diligent saving of the game) or compromises after the fact (haunted bassinet). but all three of these DID return access to my baby, and in two cases even allowed me to keep the infant stage of life (which i like to play through only because MY SIMS HAD FUCKING TRIPLETS AND I NEED TIME TO PROCESS HOW WOEFULLY UNPREPARED I AM AAAAHHHHH!!!!!).
i hope this helps people in future! :) this is the beginning and end of my findings, so unfortunately i won’t have any advice outside of what’s already here, but i included things i couldn’t easily find on google when i was dealing with the issue myself, so hopefully something in here can help you!

hello,
in ATDAO, there are a lot of things the reader needs to know about Ports, and the apocalypse, and the multiverse, and what kinds of things happen when you screw around with them. That information is scattered throughout the story as not to be overwhelming.
here is a post that is essentially me screaming for literally an hour about all of that plus more in an incredibly overwhelming manner that still manages to make no sense at all
it’s wordy and unedited and mostly just so I can get things straight in my own head, but if you’re interested in What’s What In ATDAO, you’re welcome to come along for the ride I guess. just give that ominous readmore a click and good luck my dude
in reality this should be like three separate posts but go hard or go home am i right
so my brain recently decided to give me a lot of New Ideas for ATDAO in the space of like three minutes so forgive me if this is jumbled
I had a lot of really exciting ideas about the unreality and how Lucas Lucas managed to get swallowed by it in the first place, but for context I wanted to talk a bit about some ATDAO/multiverse-in-general worldbuilding ‘cause I haven’t talked about it in detail before, it’s a LOT of junk in one hit I’m so sorry
So first of all, the multiverse, that’s essentially a bunch of universes that exist in the same space but on different “layers” of reality, like you would have layers in a photoshop document. I have stories set across these various universes, each one is its own contained universe but functions as a part of the bigger multiverse. There are naturally occurring “cracks” between layers of reality that allow some flow of energy between universes in its own little multidimensional ecosystem thing… they’re necessary cracks, they keep things flowing as things should flow, life, death, rebirth, recycle, whatever
The ATDAO universe refers to them as Ports (short for portal, but like, it’s also sneakily referencing the idea of USB ports, as in “plugging something in and introducing something from somewhere else”), so I will also be referring to them Ports. so Ports can take pretty much any form, it’s entirely random, they just crop the fuck up wherever they want. It can be a person, a place, an object, (an idea?), whatever. All it means is that person/place/object, that’s now home to a kind of split where the boundary between one universe and the next is a little weaker, where one universe overlaps/bleeds into another, where energy can easily flow through. I would explain in more detail but it’s not relevant right now. All u need to know is that Ports are chill, Ports are normal, and nine times out of ten they’re entirely harmless
HOWEVER
the ATDAO universe is old and tired and falling apart because sometimes things grow old and tired and start falling apart. So suddenly there are a lot more “cracks” in its reality, and those cracks make more cracks, as cracks do under pressure, and the ATDAO universe is under a fair bit of pressure. And where there are a lot of Ports, there’s a lot of energy flowing through from other universes. Some of that energy is from universes where reality operates differently (eg, the Kaleide universe’s magic system). The ATDAO universe receives this energy and is like “excuse me what the fuck am I meant to do with this nonsense code” because it’s not equipped to translate that to its own reality
but that energy’s gotta go somewhere so it kinda just does whatever the heck it wants, which is how your Weird Phenomena starts
(like of course, the ATDAO universe always had Ports even before it started dying, so sometimes bits of weird energy it couldn’t translate would come through, but people don’t think much of it, you know? Like, there’s weird inexplicable phenomena that goes on in our reality that we can’t explain. You’re just like “welp that’s horrifying” and you move on. It’s not till weird shit starts happening everywhere all the time, not till there are entire towns where time flows backwards and your porch seat is singing to you in a foreign language, that you start thinking “oh hey maybe the endtimes are upon us”
so that’s what’s going down in the ATDAO universe, the endtimes are upon them
(the idea is that eventually there would be so many Ports and so much overlap with other universes that the ATDAO universe would simply cease to exist, and would just become amalgamated into other universes, but humans are stubborn jerks and have no time for apocalypses thank u very much)
and then there’s Phoenix, which is a whole other kettle of fish that belongs in another post…. like no one wants to frigging go work for Phoenix, dear god, that’s pretty much sentencing yourself to Sims game levels of horror. If you work at Phoenix and spend so much time around Ports, chances are you’re gonna die and it’s not gonna be, like… a normal death… all the exits might disappear from a room and your phone won’t turn on to call for help, you open your phone up and the battery’s a fish and ur like “well shit”. Or you might be like “hey guys I found the Port” and then realise none of your coworkers can see or hear you, you’re not actually there anymore. You might walk into a house for 2 minutes and come back out three years later. it’s messed up.
So Phoenix will take literally whoever they can get, which is usually people who don’t want to be there but don’t have a choice, for whatever reason, I could go on, but I don’t want to talk about Phoenix, I want to talk about Ports and universes and Lucas
SO
everything’s already weird, but can get much much weirder when you start messing round with Ports and the ways universes overlap. For instance, Tris and Kai bring that ceiling fan you always hear me talking about into the unreality, and like… I mean…?? The ceiling fan is a Port, so it’s an object that’s an overlap between ATDAO’s universe and another one, and they go and haul that overlap of two universes into an entire other universe like it’s nbd because they’re idiots
that causes a lot of stuff to happen that I’m not gonna explain here because it’s not that relevant, like as it turns out it’s the only reason they’re able to make it out of that whole escapade alive, blah blah blah, I really just said that to give you a sense of the sorts of fuckery you can pull with universes and such
BECAUSE THAT
brings us to Lucas Lucas, and how he gets swallowed by the unreality in the first place, which is what I’m really excited to have figured out because it opens up a lot of opportunities to explore the mechanics of Ports in-story and!! I’m really keen!! because I put a lot of thought into it all and it’s fun
the whole thing is just ridiculous and statistically improbable so I love it of course. I love ridiculous statistically improbable happenings to get characters into stupid stupid situations, and then when they have to get out of those situations, statistic improbability is just like “oh….. sorry…… suddenly I’m busy….. have a hair appointment to get to….. good luck in there….”
So imagine, if you will, that in your car somewhere is a Port, maybe an empty soda can, it doesn’t matter. And imagine, by sheer ridiculous chance, that there’s another car that’s got a Port, maybe a headlight or something. And now imagine, by sheer goddamn ridiculous statistic improbability, that in some freak accident your car and this other car just friggin plough into each other and it’s terrible, it’s real bad
if those are two normal cars, that’s done and done, but this is Awful Statistic Improbability here, so what happens in this scenario is… well, basically that’s three overlapping universes that’ve just smashed into each other. The ATDAO universe, the universe that’s overlapping with your Port, and the universe that’s overlapping with the other guy’s Port. collide. full force. bam
and maybe this impact explodes out a little, maybe these overlapping universes colliding with more overlapping universes is this explosion of weird fuckin energy with nowhere to go, and they all overlap and where they overlap there’s a space that is forced into existence very brutally and very suddenly, where all three of these universes tangle into each other, and out of nowhere where there was a Nothing there is now a Something, albeit very briefly
and if you, a tiny innocent human person, happened to be caught in the middle of that instant where three universes slammed into each other and created a Something
ur probably dead, but what’s one more statistical improbability right
instead, you’re just gone. Police and ambos rock up to the scene and there’s just no one there. Cars are a mangled wreck but there’s literally no bodies. Everyone’s like “no one could have survived that, but no one can die so hard they just stop existing, right?? That’s not a thing, right??” Bits of the car are missing. Important bits, bits it needs to drive. How can u crash a car that can’t drive. But they’re just not there
and meanwhile Lucas has been caught in this Space In Between (and presumably whoever else was involved is also there?), and he’s messed up about it. Thinks he’s dead. Thinks he’s in hell. There’s a bunch of car junk that got trapped in there with him, the place is super twisted and weird and glitchy and he’s freaked out, it’s essentially three separate realities in a blender going nnrrrrrrrrrrr at full speed
and that space is not stable at all, it’s literally just an explosion of energy that shoved a bunch of universes into each other and created this momentary overlap hellscape thing. When that energy dies down and those universes begin to unravel from each other, the Something starts to collapse into a Nothing again
like if you had a sheet of red cellophane and a sheet of yellow and you slid them over the top of each other they’re orange, but then when you unslide them the orange isn’t there anymore, like that, except with universes, and with someone stuck in limbo in the middle of it all who’s got no way of getting back to into their own universe before the universe they’re in disintegrates
so then it’s not just Lucas freaking out in a hellportal, it’s Lucas freaking out in a half-formed almost-dimension that’s collapsing all over the place, just folding in on itself and returning to nothing because it’s not supposed to exist
and there u have it
literally the only reason I wanted to share this was because I thought about the conversations that would happen around the car crash scene and laughed because like
“sir he’s gone”
“he’s dead?”
“no sir he’s just gone”
“what do you mean?”
“he’s just not there. he took the steering wheel and engine with him“
“carol what the fuck”
