100 Days of Sweat
Tumblr media
Welcome to the official admission post for the 100 days of sweat challenge! *plays the conquer theme song and does a booty pop* This is a pretty long post, but has everything you need to start, so read on!
READING TIME: 6 minutes.
OoOh? What's that?
Thanks for coming out of the cave! In short, it's a consistency challenge to turn working out into a habit.
You've basically got to move your body for a 100 days straight. No slacking, no backing out!
Most take on this challenge personally, but I felt accountability would be great for those beginning with exercising & those who can't seem to keep their streak (cough, me).
Sounds fun! How do I join? Do I need to do a booty pop too?
Booty pops are appreciated. But here's how!
1. First things first, decide whether you'll be joining via IG, Discord or staying on Tumblr.
2. If using IG, reply to this post with your handle or (alternative) if you'd like, join Discord instead! For that, click here to join the server!
(NOTE: Those who joined via the first post I created regarding this needn't reply again! I've already added you to the list.)
3. Lastly, boost this! Reblog, get your followers to join! Drag your friend or sibling in! (already dragged my bestie into this in case no one joined in lmao)
Important PSA: yO, ANYONE can join! All my beginners and winners, young teens and old pals, drarry fans and johnlock shippers, team cold water AND hot water (sparing y'all because I stan working out more), EVERYONE!
Here's what I'll do:
I'm creating an IG group for those interested in staying fully committed. (Pros include making friends! Or enemies, for a hundred whole days! Some of you might even get married together, I have high hopes because wedding cake is everything)
Sayani from @studign-stars will be the admin for Discord! You can hit her up for queries, if any.
In short, there'll be 3 separate groups. One for those joining via Discord, one for those on the IG group, and a third for those staying on Tumblr.
If you wish to use any other platforms like Snapchat and Twitter, feel free! Also plug your progress on Tumblr too so we can hype each other on! (tag stuff with #100dos)
+ That said, I highly suggest joining either one of the groups, for accountability does wonders. It's now up to you, fellow warrior.
How to prep for this challenge:
OhO! There's a whole lot prepping to be slayed. To finish this challenge as smoothly as possible, here's a few steps. Make this easier for yo’ lazy bum.
1+ Firstly, grab a marker and scrap paper (when you on a student budget, cuz same) and write down numbers from 1 to 100. I did 1 to 30 to prevent myself from being overwhelmed, but do right them numbers to gain momentum.
2+ Take couple before photos. From the front, and the side. If you don't want to, take them anyway and store it in a folder you never open. Also measure your weight, and if you have a measuring tape, take other basic measurements of the chest, waist, arm etc.
3+ Coming to the main part! Pick your 'base’ routine. This is the primary workout you wanna do 2-3 times a week. It's the main course!
For beginners, I suggest choosing a 15 min full body workout. Do try it out before you start 100 days— make sure it's challenging enough.
For those who already move their bodies, pick a workout that aligns with your long-term goals. If you want toned legs, pick a leg day routine. If you want abs, focus on abs.
My base routine is the Beginner's Bodyweight Workout (BBW) from the NerdFitness website. I do 3 sets of the entire routine (takes around 25-30 mins) thrice a week.
So, do some research and pick a workout! Doesn't have to be an hour long at all, just make sure it's time-effective and challenges you.
4+ Find your cheat day workout.
Yikes, the wording is kinda incorrect, but anything for the clickbait.
This is the workout you do 2 days a week, and is the second most important workout. (This means: 3 + 2 = 5, you’ve now got five days planned!)
I do Alexis Ren’s ab routine (I hate it) twice a week because abs are my target zone. For you, it could be arms, thighs, butt, anything!
5+ Leave your last two days for simple moving.
It's up to you to decide what's going to be cooking in the remaining two days. For suggestions, you can pick a fun activity, say yoga, handstands, cartwheels, splits, any form of dancing like hip-hop, Zumba etc.
I'm trying to do a handstand this year and get my middle splits already (I fell off track so I still have quite a way to go) so I'll be stretching and doing hand flexibility exercises in the last 2 days.
Or you can just go for a jog or a power walk. Just keep the momentum going!
A quick recap:
To summarize, you're doing a major workout 3 times a week, a toning workout (mine is abs) twice a week and a fun activity in the last two days.
Also, mix this up. Your muscles need time to heal, and I strongly emphasize leaving the next day free for lighter activities after doing a major workout. Here's my routine, as an eg:
Tumblr media
Do remember that this is just a STARTING POINT, because we don't want you to wake up everyday and be like “wut I do today.” It's now your mission to plan your workout routine. Consider taking more workload or reduce it as per your level (this is definitely a lot, try reducing if you're just beginning).
Also important: DETERMINE your workout routine NOW. I spent 2 years (only stopped like 3 months ago) doing YouTube videos haphazardly. This works, because you are working out after all, but it's a pretty lousy method if you want consistent results. Also makes you depend on motivation to workout (which has probability results equal to me marrying Tom Felton), whereas if you had a routine, you'll have to workout because it's in your schedule and you'd be a loser to lie to your schedule.
Is this a lot? It's a lot. I know.
If this is overwhelming you, don't back away darling. Face your fears. Here are some reasons to not back out—
The entire challenge is flexible: You don't have to follow that routine ^ if you don't want to. Starting out, you can do a major workout 2 times a week and fill the other 5 days with fun stuff. You can always change the routine later, 100 days is a long ass time.
The challenge fucks with your mindset and strengthens it: 100 days of continuous movement is CRAZY. Can you imagine how strong (mentally too!) we'll all be at the end? You'll have grown so much!
Working out will become a habit: I've been working out for 2 years now, and it has positively affected every single sphere of my life. Exercising is the #1 habit I suggest everyone build. Since science says it takes 66 days to build a habit, we're ON it.
You'll be really proud of yourself: I know I'll be. I'm literally going to hug y'all at the end of it, and sing jingles about how far you've come. 2019 will have been slayed.
I could go on and on, but this is it. Now's the moment. This is about doing something you're afraid of. Taking risks. Learning, falling, getting back up.
Thence, ladies, gents and non-binary pals, THIS is the 100 days of sweat challenge. You're cordially invited to it.
(We're dramatic, yes.)
🌻 !!! MAJOR PSA & DEADLINES:
The challenge itself begins on 10th April, 2019.
You'll be added to the IG group latest by 7th April.
Because I'm your mom, I'll add everyone in, tell you the details and everything. If you’ve got any questions, jump into my inbox now and get them answered.
That said, please remember that I won't take anyone in midway (no, not even if you buy me free tacos for a year). So join in now & spread the message! The more, the merrier! Bring beer too!
Thanks for joining in! This will be promising and hugely interesting (accountability can do wonders, but we'll see). I'll be waiting for you on the other side with my stuffed animals, cIaO fReNdOs!
— Nandini (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡ 💌

Lockdown Diary Part 4
A personal account during the lockdown in the UK due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
23/03/2020 8:30pm Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister, gives a live address to the nation to, effectively, put the country on lockdown to stem the spread of the deadly coronavirus strain, Covid-19.
Many of us have been self-isolating for days but this latest development within the UK in reaction to the pandemic feels very serious and very scary. I decided to keep a simple diary and where better but online.
Day91: I can’t post photos to the sister photo diary and it’s fucking me off. Using this as a place holder- last successful pic was 21/06/2020.
Day 92: Still awaiting Tumblr re: day 91′s entry. Meanwhile looking at other blog/diary sites. Very warm today, like it was throughout May. Boris announced a further relaxation in lockdown measures which includes reducing the 2m distancing instruction which paves the way for pubs, restaurants and other places to open on 4th  . It looks like the Ship will open 6th July, George on the 4th. I await to see the measures put in place before deciding whther it’s a goer.
Day93: Typing on day 94 - I received an email from Deryn from RCI HR concerning placement online module attendance, thanking me for my participation. I was somewhat confused. Was this a mistake or was I erroneously not icluded in the initial communications? I fired off an email to HR and WhatsApp’d Jim. He replied that I should take it up with HR.
I am worried by this. Furlough ends this week and I know not what the fuck is going on.
Day 94: Had a few beers last night, ‘cos I was feeling deflated over work. Finished Homecoming S2, which was very good, and cancelled Amazon Prime before the free trial ends tomorrow. Got up @midday but haven’t done jack shit today as my right ankle is playing up - it was twinging last night - apart from press ups. No word back from RCI but there was a notification that the email from Deryn was attempted to be recalled. Had a spat in Co-Op wth two lads who were ignoring the one way system and social-distancing. It makes my blood boil and I had to say something which ended up making my blood boil even moreespecially as one of them asked me to ‘crack on’. It’s a pretty cool response actually, since I had them bang to rights but, at the time, I thought I was going to bust a blood vessel. I walked away having told him to not speak to me like that again and that he was a fucking arsehole! Didn’t make me feel any better though. Fog’s chatting later so I’m going to have a few beers right now (just gone 8pm) - I feel like throwing caution to the wind for some reason (probably work more than anything else).
Day 95: Typing on Day 96. I had a lot of beers with Fog the night before last and felt like shit all day yesterday. Still managed to drag myself up to Foggy’s and have socially distanced beers in his garden with Noel and Lord Irish of Michael.
Day 96: Feeling like shit. Third day of no walking ‘cos my ankle is a little sore although I did walk back from Foggy’s last night.
Day 97: Two walks and my usual stair climb today. Felt good to get back to routine. Plus, no booze yesterday, even tho’ it was a Saturday, feel better for it. I heard from Sue Cockings from HR on Friday, btw, still furloughed until further notice.
Day 98: I discovered, yesterday, that today is actually day 99 of lockdown since it actually begun on the Sunday evening that Boris Johnson announced the measures being in place - I mistakenly thought it began on the Monday. Tumblr still haven’t got back to me regarding reviewing why this blog is deemed ‘sensitive’ and I can’t add any more pics. While I am typing, Northampton are beating Exeter 0-2 at Wembley in the L2 play-off final. It’s funny that their fans can’t be there to see it. Football, in general, on its return after lockdown, without fans in attendance, is shit - like watching women’s football - too many empty seats.
Day 100: I have decided to number the days correctly (See prev’ entry). It’s a good time as I had to export , delete and recreate this blog on Tumblr since they have been non-forthcoming in my request for info as to why they deemed it ‘sensitive’. So, this is a restart, altrough seemless to the reader. On top of all that, I am writing this on Day 101! After restarting the blog diary I forgot to add the day’s entry! Bumped into Roger on my second walk, at the top of Basset Ford Place. We chatted for an hour or so. It was really good to see him and talk. We’ve made a promise to interact more...it seems both he and I allow ourselves to get down in the dumps (easy in self-isolation) and, as such, we shall try to reach out as and when. He suggested a walk together every now and then.
Day 101: I heard back from a charitable services company that Barry Haddon (who, coincidentally, I spoke with today) told me about (Auriga)and answered their email questions. BNarry rates them and told me they got him some decent results like he no longer has to pay Council Tax. I tweeted Chris Hawkes on Radio 6 this morning...he was asking for examples of sames names (’cos he had Dave Gorman on) so I told him about The Redlion and the ad the ‘other’ Tim put in the ET. He read it out! I created a photo album of 101 pics I’ve taken in lockdown and put it on FB including the Oundle Chatter group. The comments were great. My right eyesight is worrying, I cannot make out close up detail i.e. reading is blurred. I am going to start doing 10 press ups after each exercise i.e. three times a day. I decided that during my second walk so today I’ve done 20. Lastly, I have new neighbours I do believe. Hmmm.
Day 102: Emailed dad and Rita to have a rant about what dad thought of the Leicester lockdown and to share a link to my 101 photo album. Had a long Messenger chat with Rog.
Day 103: Typing this on day 104. Dad called when I was out ona  walk so we skyped when I got back. He looks really well! Advided me on how to cutt some branches that are hanging low (I asked him in the email yesterday). I then borrowed a saw, secateurs and green bin from Karen. I walked a long way today. My second walk was 9km.I then had loads of beers! The Co-Op car park seems to be the venue for youngsters to hang out. I was gone 2am before they finished partying. I (re)watched Steve Jobs. Wow....just wow. What a film and what a man!
Day 104: It was gone 1:30pm when I got up feeling the worse for wear. A chilli, chorizo and cheese omelette really sorted me out but no beer tonight. How my Saturday frame of mind has changed from just a few years ago. Elliot and Camilla dropped off a jar of japaenos (that Mil had WhatsApp’d me about) and, among other things, we chatted about a photo Tracie Garrett circulated featuring Ell, me her and a few others who met up to have a drink at The Haycock for Ron Gambling. In it was Cath and someone called Ross (who I don’t remember) who have both passed since the pic (July ‘99). I feel strangely saddened by it all. The pic itself is such a reminder of days past - it conjours up shit loads of different feelings.
Day 105: A few beers again last night so another late one (5ish) but up before noon. Finished watching a series called Condor. Pretty good - bit of a messy ending that is the norm with telly nowadays in that it is a little bit of a cliffhanger.
Day 106: The Ship reopened today. I left a nice message on the Virtual Pub group page wishing them the best plus said thanks to Rach. I think it will be the end of the laugh we’ve had on the virtual site now. I expect to go through a bit of a miserabel time with people now venturing out down the pubs.We were once all united in lockdown - that will no longer be the case. Met Rog for a walk - did over 7km oncluding through Barnwell Picnic Park - I don’t remember it being that pretty. defo going to go there again. Got an email from RCI asking for all furlough workers to join a Zoom meeting tomorrow with Paul (MD) and Deryn (HR). Ominous! Went shopping in Asda and Farm Foods. £100 with NO BOOZE!
Day 107: The zoom call today didn’t tell me much other than we are being furloughed still, until further notice. It was susggested that we have a zoom meeting every 2 weeks and that RCI recognise we’ve be left out in the cold somewhat. I appreciate that very much. There were 30 of us on the call plus Paul and Deryn were in the office since they had to make peopel redundant today. Mark was in the office earlier to take receivership of the IT kits from those that left.
Day 108: I am well on the way to doing 1,000,000 steps in theree months (July, August & September) but at what cost. I’ve done well over 11,000 steps each day in July (actually, a lot of days in June as well) apart from one (8k) and I am feeling it. My right leg/ankle is sore! Day 109: I had another mention by Chris Hawkins on Radio 6. He asked for Brian May moments - apparently when he met Brian May he was so starstruck that all he could say was ‘thank you for the music’. I tweeted my story of telling Felicity Kendall to have a good life. Today, both my walks have resulted in me getting fucking soaked. Hanna S2 is on Amazon Prime. Time for yet another free trial (number 4 or 5).
Day 110: I have walked 144,448 steps in 10 days, well on the way to a million steps in three months. The Heist of the Century - an Argentinian film based on true events - watched it last night (well, over two nights, actually). A real life Ocean’s Eleven (but with 6). Brilliant film, brilliat story. I had issues signing up to another Amazon Prime free trial last night so I set up another gmail a/c just now and I think I’m in. I used Danny’s Gmail (which I created over 15 years ago!) and it didn’t like it - I think I must have used it before. I reckon I have probably had loads more free trials than I care to remember. Anyway, off to watch me some Hanna!
Day 111: Very tired as I type. Bed at around 5am, up at 13:30, normal exercises, cleaning kitchen cupbaords and I’m done in. It’s 10:30pm now, just cracked open a beer and about to watch a new Netflix film “The Old Guard”. I would continue with Hanna but Amazon Prime keeps fucking erroring. I will try to go to bed before it gets light (which seems to be my w/e norm nowadays!
Day 112: I have got into the habit of eating dinner far too late. It’s 10:30pm as I type and I am just about to have something eat. I’m not sure why I feel it’s wrong to eat so late but I do, I shall be trying to address it. Late night again last night (gone 4:30am) so today was a lazy day. Only on ewalk but it was 10km and I get up the above 11,000 steps needed for the 1m challenge. My stair climb, at around 9pm, fucking killed.
Day 113: Boring Monday.
Finished watching The Old Guard on Netflix. A Highlander-esque affair with Charlize Theron kicking ass like she did in Atomic Blonde. It was OK. Haven’t manage to lick the late night eating. It’s 10:05pm and tea’s still cooking.
Day 114: I have been looking at planning persmissions on the ENDC site for questions posed on the Oundle Chatter group on FB. There’s going to be two sites with 130 new houses on each and it’s causing concern. And so it should - the planning docs are very revealing. Objections are dismissed in such an off-hand way. It’s really quite insulting. I was awfully down today, during my first walk. I mean, really despondant (too difficult to describe here), which is a lower version of the norm - it’s been a good couple of weeks since anyone’s even asked how I am! A week since that post on my main blog. But, I powered through and am back to the usual depth! I ate at @9:30 pm tonight. Told ya!
Day 115: I am typing this on Day 116 - I ended up hainga  couple of beers last night and forgot to post. I had the most ridiculous toing and froing on FB and Messenger with Rachel (Harris) - it was piss funny. She is the first person in days, actually weeks, who has asked how I am! I watched ep3 of Hanna S2. Absolutely superb. She kills Marissa! Did not see that fucker coming...mind blown! Day 116: I have finally finished the thorough clean of the kitchen. Fucking drama. I am typing at just gone 10pm, about to eat (curry I made yesterday). It’s been a strange day, timings wise, last night’s drinking meant I wasn’t up until just gone noon which obviously didn’t help. I had a call from DSM group - I applied for an IT tech role, they want to see me tomorrow (Friday) for an interview (in Sibson). Interesting! (Although the contact, Helen, hasn’t sent the promised email!)
Day 117: Despite not getting a confirmation email, I attended the interview at DSM. It went OK (I was there for 90 mins). I went booze shopping in Tesco’s afterwards. Spoke to dad today also - he and Rita are well, as usual! I am feeling really knackered and achy today. I do hope it’s not anything to worry about.
Day 118: Up at 1pm. 9.79 km walk. Cooking meatballs, drinking beer, listening to The Blaze about to watch Deepwater Horizon. All good today!
Day 119: Similar to yesterday, up late, bloody long walk, watching Saving Private Ryan (which I started last night).
Day 120: Typing on day 121. Received an email from someone that works at the BBC for Shaun Keaveny’s show - they want me to do small claims court on August 5th. I’m becoming obsessed with getting my steps in - my second walk was extended to round Barnwell Country Park - over 17.5k steps - not the most I’ve done in one day but, for example, most in one day last month (June) was 14.7k. More importantly, I am finding that I can walk further (and for longer) and not have a hypo; not a great deal further, but over an hour.

the trolls as tumblr blogs
Poppy - the girl’s got no real “theme” going, but she’s definitely got a “craft” tag where she’s posted at least three hundred scrapbooking tutorials already, and probably reblogged a few do-it-yourself knitting, crocheting, or sewing videos. sometimes posts cute selfies in colorful dresses with her hair very elaborately styled, or low-quality recordings of her own original music. gets flooded with asks every day, mainly about “how do I do X with my scrapbook, please teach me” or just people telling her how pretty and nice and approachable she is. she answers every single message. no anon left behind. lots of positivity posts, too, mainly just short snippets like “you can do it!!” with smiley-face and thumbs-up emojis. reblogs every meme she sees and always remembers to tag her friends in them. sends Branch asks here and there to make sure he’s still alive. blog is astoundingly well-organized, considering how scattered it is.
Branch - survivalist. everything. very long, detailed posts with lots of bullet points and big words and italics. the information is actually useful, if you can be bothered to sift through it. tips on how to survive everything from a house fire to the zombie apocalypse. lots of conspiracy posts, too, won’t shut up about Roswell or Illumanati. doesn’t get asks as often as Poppy does, and when he does, it’s usually some anon with some variation of “why are you like this”. responds to said asks with one-word answers. responds to Poppy’s asks with at least some measure of exasperation. reblogs her positivity posts just to counter the encouragement with something typically pessimistic, and tends to go off with her on never-ending threads back and forth where they just disagree on absolutely everything from cats vs. dogs to the infinite possibilities of multiple universes. tells anyone who will listen how much he can’t fucking stand her. would burn before he posted a selfie where “the establishment” could see. everything is meticulously tagged and scrupulously organized. probably runs a sideblog where he posts sappy romantic poetry every few days. no one on his main knows about it. they Must Never Know.
Bridget - kinda lowkey treats her blog like a diary, lots of personal posts, lots of random, unnecessary updates on her life, lots of venting. vague-blogging. all her drama out on main. reblogs recipes if she thinks they look good. doesn’t get memes, but reblogs every single one Poppy tags her in anyway. the rare selfie that does make it onto her blog quickly gets deleted when her insecurities act up. discovered the rainbow emoji a few years ago and never looked back.
Gristle - memes. just. memes. “change my mind”. “you guys are just mean”. gru meme. responds to every ask he gets with a meme. some people think he’s a bot. also lots of vine compilations. some selfies here and there, usually with a caption about how handsome he feels today. once left a comment on one of Bridget’s selfies before she deleted it and just said “hot lunch!”
Smidge - wall-to-wall workout stuff. mainly two to three-minute videos of her doing power squats or one-handed push-ups or something of the like. has a “goals!!!” tag that’s just pictures and gifs of other bodybuilders. sometimes makes posts about the pros and cons of different sports drinks or protein shakes, and the majority of her selfies are mainly just her flexing proudly. reblogs her friends’ selfies with aggressive, kinda off-the-wall compliments - “LOVE YOURSELF AS MUCH AS I LOVE YOU OR DIE” - but everyone appreciates the thought all the same. occasionally reblogs pics of pretty ladies when she’s tortured by thirst.
Guy Diamond - glitter aesthetics, mainly. gifsets and photos and stimboards of the stuff, but sometimes he’ll intersperse a pic of a big city all lit up at night or a Starbucks coffee cup or something similar.  usually posts at least one selfie per day, if not several, and captions them all w/ nothing but 3 sparkle emojis and a winky face. his text posts are typically something in the vein of “love yourself BITCH”. will talk on and on in the tags about how much he loves the post, but won’t actually tag the content of the post itself. calls every inconvenience he’s ever experienced in his life “homophobic”. if you get him in a sappy enough mood, he’ll wax poetic about the lovely life he’s going to lead with his future husband.
Biggie - mostly just pictures of Mr. Dinkles, or text posts about him ((e.g. pic of Mr. Dinkles in sunglasses captioned “Mr. Dinkles is feeling chill!”)) or the odd photo of a meal he’s made, or a batch of cupcakes he’s really proud of. occasionally reblogs pictures of other animals as well, mainly cats and kittens. the fuzzier, the better. very sweet and welcoming to everyone, his followers just love sending him asks and hearing about his day, or getting to tell him about theirs. makes everyone feel right at home, and has upwards of ten thousand followers because of this.
Cooper - ??????????????? doesn’t really know what he’s doing at all. occasionally posts memes but none of them actually make any sense. reblogs all his friends’ posts but rarely makes any of his own. adds unnecessary comments to text posts whenever possible. doesnt tag anything.
DJ Suki - music!!!! lots of her own, of course, but reblogs plenty of her favorite bands and artists, too. takes a longggg time to respond to asks and her responses are usually v short, barely more than a few words at a time. aggressively reblogs Poppy’s music and Cooper’s meaningless memes. has sent Branch at least one (1) ask that just said, “chill”.
Satin and Chenille - clothes tbh, esp fancy evening gowns with sparkles and ruffles and things like that, but the occasional cute blouse finds its way onto their blog, too. lots of pictures of the pieces they’re currently working on and plenty of progress updates. sometimes hold random giveaways for the outfits their followers express the most interest in. occasional step-by-step tutorials on sewing, hairstyles, makeup, or something of the sort. at least one text post a week venting nonstop about each other.
Creek - yoga and meditation techniques at least once a week, and a few tips here and there on practicing mindfulness as well. uses the words “inner peace” and “complete tranquility” several times in one post. almost never reblogs any of his friends’ posts, and ignores Poppy’s attempts to tag him in memes because it “doesn’t fit his theme”. will send Poppy lots of encouraging asks, though, especially after she’s just had a thread with Branch. follows Branch specifically to comment things like “thanks for sharing your unique perspective on things..........again” on his posts.
Cloud Guy - doesn’t tag. default theme. answers asks with the peace-sign emoji, when he gets asks at all. most people are too afraid to initiate contact. got a blog just to send Branch terrifyingly vague or profoundly irritating asks, and comments on Branch and Poppy’s threads with “she’s got a point, rotary joint” whenever he can. Branch has blocked him upwards of five times. he just keeps making blogs.

Finally, I'm getting round to posting my first piece of writing. I suppose it is to be expected. I cannot plan for anything as every day brings a complete unknown in the way of energy.
I absolutely do not want this blog to be any 'sorry for myself' kind of emotional outpouring, and depressing to read. It is a journal, like the journals that people used to write, in lovely notebooks with a key. But not locked of course. That's ok, I don't mind. Books are the same; people write books and people read them. Books are as freely available in bookshops. In fact more so, as there is no membership of bookshops required or vetting of readers. No questions asked by the assistant in Waterstones if you want to buy a book on any subject, to see if you are suitable and respectable enough to buy it. It's just a bit more effort to go to town and go to the shop, buy the book, go home, make a cup of tea and sit down to read it. Although you can buy also buy a book online nowadays of course, or even read one. And as instantly, anyone can write and read a blog on a phone.
A blog is the only way I can think of, that I can actually do, to record the information as requested by the long covid clinic. I'm not even after 'followers' to be honest, as really it's like a scrapbook, something creative for me to do and enjoy, that I can add photos to, and other lovely things perhaps. Pretty to look at maybe, if I can figure out how to do that. If anyone wants to look too, they are very welcome. Though I can't imagine it will be that interesting. Not sure what hashtags to put, or how people find each other really on Tumblr. It's all new to me. I can't read long things online myself at the moment, but maybe one day I will follow some blogs myself. I will have to come back to things throughout the day, or even over several days to edit. But that's ok too. There is no one to answer to or give me their opinion. And I will have no idea who reads it.
A diary was requested by the Long covid clinic adviser, (an Occupational therapist called Christine, who was really kind) during my initial appointment on June 24th. That was over a month ago. I instantly ordered a lovely notebook to do it. "I can do that", I thought, relieved to finally be able to do something to help myself. But have not written one word in it. Unbelievably that is too much effort. So then I thought of a blog, to just do on my phone. But I just have not been able to get that together either, to a) read the instructions on how to create a blog, and b) write anything, until Friday (4 days ago) when my son set this Tumblr blog up for me. This is the first day I have felt able to write anything. It seems a bit strange to ask for a diary, of someone who has difficulty thinking and committing themselves to tasks because they have energy, focus and thinking problems. But hey, finally, here it is. I can't look at a computer screen for longer than half an hour on most days before feeling scrunched up inside my head, so that seemed the best way forward. I can just sit on the sofa and at least write a few lines to say how that day has been. And edit and add to it at intervals. And if my eyes aren't sore, then something a bit longer on my laptop. Then there will be a record for the long covid people. Or at something I can refer to to remind myself, when I eventually have the appointment. This is, to be honest, something patients are getting on with themselves. Self management. I'm on a mission to recovery. It will also be something I can look back on when I am better.
So here I am. And hello to anyone reading this. This is a better day. I have had 3 lying on the sofa and doing zero. Therefore I am feeling pretty good today as that is how it works apparently, I have been told. You have to wait to recover from the most gentle activity which if I was well, would be no problem at all, and perhaps one in a series of activities as I like to do stuff.
But now I have to pace myself. Where are the emoticons on here? Rolling eyes emoticon to be inserted here when I can find them. This is tricky as I am a very usually a very active busy and rushing about kind of person. I have not had to take my dog Maisie out today as Ed the Borrowmydoggy walker has taken her for a walk, and I have not used up much energy at all. I'm saving up my bank of energy for hopefully meeting some colleagues for tea and cake tomorrow afternoon. I'm so hoping I will feel up for it. I really miss work, and a sense of routine and normality, and daily contact. And a sense of purpose. I love my job. Tomorrow would be the first time I have been away from out of my local area for two weeks. And it's only 10 minutes away. I'm nervous though as last Friday I met 2 friends in a local pub for 1 1/2 hours for lunch and it took 3 days to recover. It took about 6 minutes to walk there. I had lunch with them which was really lovely. I walked the 6 minutes home and picked up Maisie and walked her round the block. My legs felt like lead and it was really hard work but I needed to. She needed to have a walk. I then saw another friend in my other local's garden which I walked past and went and sat with her for half an hour. That wasn't essential I know, but I wanted to. I live on my own you see, and with feeling so poorly, can get quite down if I don't see or speak to anyone for a day or two. That was all I did. Less than two hours activity. But it completely knocked me out for the rest of the day. And the next. I could not think. I could not watch tv or listen to audio speech. My mind was completely still and I lay still on the sofa, staring, listening to sounds on the Calm app. I felt very depressed. The day after that was marginally better. I could watch 30 minutes of tv, but then my brain started to feel scrunched up inside after that, with the concentration and I had to switch it off. The TV that is, not my brain. That was already off.
Anyway. That is nearly all I can write today. That's what happens. I hit a wall and know I will come to a stop in few minutes and need to close my eyes. I have a few sleeps a day. There is loads to say, But I will write a bit more tomorrow.
As far as today is concerned, it is ok so far. A bit better than yesterday. I will rest now and listen to the radio for a bit. Maybe watch a bit of tv later. I think I'll be able to manage an hour or so today. Feeling more cheery. I did some meditations on Calm this morning. Mindfulness. Being on my own and having noone to talk to, the grief of missing my dad who passed away in January, my health weighing me down, and thinking of my future can feel a bit overwhelming sometimes. I have always been someone who doesn't bottle things up, and expresses myself.. can say how I'm feeling and says what I think. So it's helping.
I am a glass half full person though, so this blog isn't going to be all gloomy. And I still have my sense of humour. So catch you tomorrow.
Take good care.

Audience Analysis Blog #9: Online, Interactive Audiences in a Digital Media World
How does one become famous overnight? Is it as easy as it sounds? To some people, it feels like it, to others, not so much. In the entertainment world, it is possible for people to instantly become a star. With films, there have been cases were directors see someone and ask them to be in their projects. With a growing amount of technology and media platforms, it is more possible to be a sensation. Take Rebecca Black for example. In early 2011, she had a video for the song Friday uploaded to YouTube. Within the first month, it garnered 30 million views. Overtime, the song had been re-done in the form of parodies, remixes and was featured on the television series Glee. The discussion of this blog will be how audiences in media have changed through one that are online and interactive and how they pose a challenge in figuring out audiences in this age of new media.
Over the past decade, there have been changes in technology that allows people to create, upload and view media content. In a case like Rebecca Black, she uploaded the Friday music video using the video site YouTube. One concept that I would like to start with is digitalization, a method that allows images and sounds of media to be recorded and transmitted. (Sullivan, pp 268) Media has its content converted into a language consisting of ones and zeroes called digital or binary code, there are many benefits to this language as it provides an efficient amount of space, supports the quality of the content and allows different devices communicate with one another with no problem. With digitalization, there would be endless possibilities in artists in both video and musical to create and upload their content to share with a world that may not otherwise realize their existence without the use of technology.
Even when people do not aspire to become musicians or filmmakers, they can still take part in digitalization by creating content of their own and uploading it for fun. Some people would create user-generated content (UGC) among their favourite media such as video games. This particular content allows people to create their own content and share with others. One example is video game mods, short for modifications. What users would do is take certain video games, using some code, they would add a little spin to the games. What I am about to show is a WatchMojo video of games that are often modded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C_Ds63FqN8
With many people creating their own content, they would usually store it in an online place called the cloud. Clouds would not only allow web servers to store files but to have applications in which millions of users can connect with media content similarly. (Sullivan, pp 271) Clouds, video sharing sites like YouTube, Wikipedia and social media sites like Facebook have one thing in common. They are considered platforms, digital infrastructures that allow communication between at least two people or groups. The infrastructures function as intermediaries within all sorts of user types. These platforms provide users with a space to communicate with one another. Examples of these platforms include online shopping sites, social media and video sharing media.
One platform that I would like to touch down on is social media. Now, social media is one of those things that people have a love-hate relationship with. While most of us would use social media on a regular basis, we all have that one friend that hates it with a passion. I would often jokingly tell my dad, just be glad that you are not on social media, your head would explode. I know people that complain about sites like Facebook because it is one of the reasons that we have become slaves to our phones. To some extent, I have to agree because I have read articles about the ‘fear of missing out.’ Even if those of use have checked Facebook three times a day, we tend to have that anxiety with us ‘Liking’ multiple pages and having 600+ friends. To best describe social media, they are services based on the internet that enable a certain amount of people, whether they are one individual or a community, to connect with one another in the creation, distribution, engagement and providing of user- generated content. (Sullivan, pp 271) There are differences in demographics among certain social media platforms, with Facebook and YouTube having a large usage whereas to sites like Twitter and Instagram have their usages be different in other demographics.
In the world of social media, there are several terms that some users may not realize exist but are useful in understanding the platforms. Measures of exposure are built-in to every social media platform in demonstrating the number of users that viewed the content. These measures would include a post on Facebook or a tweet. A dashboard allows users with a number of ways in seeing the amount of uses that people reacted or comment on a particular post. Using Tumblr the past few months, I am so used to referring to the dashboard as a place where we can generate and upload content. As someone who has used Facebook within the past decade, these two terms, measures of exposure and dashboard are new to me, I would so be used to seeing the dashboard as ‘the wall.’ Viral posts are common in social media as it is content that is shared a million times within a short period of time. (Sullivan, pp 277) While Sullivan’s book said that it can be a YouTube video or Twitter post, I would have to disagree as it can be any form of media content from a photo or a news story. There are a wide variety of viral posts in all social media platforms that are often shared by people around the world.
When it comes to posts and social media platforms, we generate and share all sorts of content but what if we could make posts about our lives and the world around us? This is when the concept of blogs and vlogs come in. There are obvious differences between the two log types as blogs are short for web logs while vlogs are short for video logs. Like me, some of you would own a laptop and use it on a regular basis. Almost every laptop is equipped with a built-in camcorders or camera. This would make way for people to create their own vlogs and upload them to YouTube. A more general definition of vlogs would be content that has a user make a discussion in front of a camera and use little to no editing. (Sullivan, pp 282) Vlogs uploaded to video sharing sites like YouTube would include responses to other videos, diary entries and comedy performances. One example of the Vlog that I would like to show is that of Stephen Georg. I have mentioned him on an earlier blog about Twitch Streaming, he actually has two channels. One that allows him to record playthroughs of video games and the other that has him ‘life-blogging,’ or recording a series of diary entries. This is one example of one of his life-vlogs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrIHMzhJh7M
Switching to blogs, or web logs, they tend to be a little simpler in having online websites be used in a journal format. To learn the origins of blogging, you would have to go back to the late 1990s when the first sites that enabled blogging were OpenDiary and Live Journal. Sites like this and Blogger.com have people create their own website that focuses on blogging within seconds. One does not have to understand programming languages such as Java or HTML in order to maintain the blogging sites. (Sullivan, pp 289) In 2010, when social media sites like Facebook and Twitter gained traction and took over the blogging scene. One obvious example of a blog is mine or any blog on Tumblr. While some people would blog about photography or working on cars, I am blogging not because it is part of an assignment, but it is part of me educating users about the concepts of audiences in how they evolved with the use of technology.
I have often told people that we are so fortunate to live in a technological driven society and sites like YouTube that allow us to create and upload content to entertain others. In addition, social media sites like Facebook help us share and engage with content as it adds elements like humour in what goes on in the news today. These sites also offer users with a chance to add their own spin on already existing content such as video games with the mods. Even if we do not consider ourselves to be artists, it still allows us to be creative in offering our own texts and provide other users with some form of entertainment. Even blogging sites have a way of allowing users to create their own content, whether it is in plain text, images, or videos.
