Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
Tragically spellbinding. Fresh from a trip to a psych hospital in her new home of Chicago, Camille is asked to cover what her boss at the Chicago Tribune suspects might be the start of a serial killer in her hometown of Wind Gap. When Camille arrives back in town to investigate the murders of two young girls, she’s met with hostility by nearly all, including her mother, stepfather and half-sister, Amma. The more Camille investigates the more danger she finds herself in as she helps to uncover not only who is behind the slayings but also some painful truths of her childhood. Will Camille be able to escape her past? This is one of those books you want to stick with out of morbid curiosity but you know the more you know, the more your stomach will be knotted. It’s heartbreaking in a way that doesn’t really ever get wrapped up with a nice bow. Beneath the main plot of the mystery of who is responsible for the deaths, it tackles a tough topic that sadly resonates with many - where do you turn for love, help, and acceptance when you can’t turn towards home? Despite the length of the book, it’s not one I would fly through just because of the emotional weight. I recommend to those who love a good emotional thriller/mystery. TW Section: self harm, bullying, child abuse, murder, Munchausen's by proxy, alcohol abuse, rape, PTSD, and gaslighting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 4/5

Q: What is your favorite book you read in June?. Can somebody please explain to me how we're already 7 months into 2022?! Make time slow down!. In June I read 8 books, 4 graphic novels, DNF-ed 1 book, went to 1 concert, traveled to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., went to ALA Annual, and saw 12 Broadway shows. Full wrap up post on the blog now, link in bio. These are a few of my favorites from June:. 🎨 Slip by Marika McCoola & Aatmaja Pandya - This is a fast paced graphic novel and I loved seeing the art work Jade and the other students created! Art isn’t just about the piece created, but the meaning behind it. This story also has a magical realism aspect to it which I didn’t expect. 💜The Romantic Agenda by Claire Kann - My favorite part about this story is that both Joy and Malcolm identify as asexual but show it in different ways – this book shows that there isn’t one way to be ace, its a spectrum. This book has everything you would expect from a rom-com – except on page sex. 👻 Not Good For Maidens by Tori Bovalino - Goblin Market retelling, but make it LGBTQ+. Excellent fantasy/horror YA story. 🍏 Wicked Beauty by Katee Robert - As with the previous two books in this series, I went in mostly blindly to the Greek mythology aspect to this. Wicked Beauty focuses on Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Patroclus – all of whom I know nothing about, but you don’t need to know anything in advance in order to enjoy this story. This story is told in alternating perspectives between these three and I loved all of them. #JuneWrapUp - #LMSJuly2022, #AlltheBooksJul22, #bookishconlifejul22, #novelebookreads, #TheShakespeareanaReads, OceanBreezeandSummerReadsJul22, #readingadventuresjun22 #WrapUp #MonthlyWrapup #MonthlyReads #JuneReads #BookReviewer #BookBlogger #Bookstagram #Bookish #Bibliophile #Bookworm #BoostingYA #BookishLife #BooksOfIG #Bookstagrammer #bookishflatlay #librarybookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CfhTgifrqvt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Last few days have me nostalgic, back to reading on my phone, away from kindle and paperbacks. Finding unique insights as I take a walk with the characters has been refreshing to say the least. Coming across these recommendations on various bookstagrams I decided to take these up and rightly so. Be it Olive, Stella, or Poppy, I've loved them immensely. #AngiesReadingAdventure TW: su*cide *National Suicide Prevention Line 1-800-373-8255 *Crisis Hotline Text “talk” to 741741 Anxious People by Fedrik Backman Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The images that I had in my head of this book and the chapters was so good! I was laughing and also intrigued with each person. It definitely was like a dark comedy story but with a serious talked about topic. The book shows that everyone is going through something. 🎗✉️🇸🇪 #anxiouspeople #fedrikbackman #sweden #swedishwriter #suicideprevention #suicideawarness #junebookstack #junereads #largeprintbooks #bookstagram #booktok #bookreview #popularbooks #anxiouspeoplereview #anxiouspeoplenetflix #translatedfiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CeefQa-FSO4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dairy Dairy Quite Contrary by Amy Lillard
Tumblr media
A big thank you to @kensingtonbooks for this #eARC! Preorder your copy now in advance of its June 28 release!
Fresh from a break up and pausing her job, Sissy takes advantage of an opportunity to help her Amish aunt and cousin out who are down a few hands at their restaurant, The Sunflower Cafe. The move sees Sissy, and her little puppy Duke, move from Tulsa to small town Yoder while leaving the rest of her life on pause and possessions in storage. When Sissy happens upon a dead body one day at work, she quickly finds herself at the center of the investigation. It is up to Sissy to clear things up and clear her name.
This was a fun and cute book! Definitely a perfect light summer read in between the many dark thrillers I frequently read! I really enjoyed the investigative element without it being too heavy handed or serious. I thought it was also fun to learn a little more about Amish life, as this is only my second book in an Amish setting. The description of the setting was sound and I could truly picture Yoder in my head, even down to the fridges full of cheese blocks and yogurt. One of my favorite touches were the Aunt quotes at the start of each chapter. The only thing I’ll add is that parts of the book did feel drawn out and lacking for action and some of the introductory elements were redundant, such as her column.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, light summer mystery.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 - 3.5/5

"Inferno" (Dan Brown)
"The Last Juror" (John Grisham)

"Noli Me Tangere" (Jose Rizal)
Gonna read only a few books this month because the last quarter of school just began and I'm currently guilty of stacking unfinished school work.

Born on this day, 10 June 1921: HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. 📚 Philip, Prince of Greece – The Duke of Edinburgh's Early Life and the Greek Succession by Constantinos Lagos and John Carr. ‘This well-informed and easily-readable book studies in depth the Greek royal family from 1864 to the 1970s and is full of interesting and little known details. Philip's own story from birth to his marriage to the then Princess Elizabeth is told with compassion and honesty. This book is a great tribute to a great man.’ ~Robin, @NetGalley ‘Highly recommend for students of history who are interested in Greek history and royal history.’ ~Diana, NetGalley ‘A captivating look at Prince Philip's life prior to his marriage to Princess Elizabeth in 1947 especially his place within the Greek royal family and his various relationships within the vast network of European monarchies. From his parents' disastrous relationship to the political upheavals that profoundly affected the Greek royals after WWI, this compelling biography follows the future Duke of Edinburgh's arduous move from childhood to adulthood. This is also a very detailed look at European monarchies and their complex links and relationships all the way through WWII. This wonderful book should definitely appeal to all the readers interested in serious royal "politics" and genealogical researches.’ ~Jean Luc, NetGalley • #OnThisDay #OTD #OTDIH #Biography #OnThisDayInHistory #PrincePhilip #DukeOfEdinburgh #100YearsOn #100Years #RoyalHistory #RoyalFamily #Royals #GreekHistory #History #BritishMonarchy #NewBook #NewReleases #19thCentury #20thCentury #JuneReads #EuropeanHistory #SpringReads #Bookstagram #SpringNewTitles #Hardback #HistoryBooks #NonFiction #PenAndSword #PenAndSwordBooks (at Pen and Sword Books) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP8hp41rh-6/?utm_medium=tumblr
