#junbai you had a bit too much fun there
Note
Killer and Healer modern version lives in my mind rent free.
If it was set in modern times, what do you think are five changes that would happen with the characters/story/etc. because of the change of setting (time and place)?
Ooo, Killer and Healer Modern!Au? How fun!
Okay...five changes...
There would be like....actual help for Jiang Yuelou and his mental problems. Like, during when Killer and Healer is set, there's not a lot on mental health and medicine and treatment for that but now in the modern times, there's so much research being done on mental health that Jiang Yuelou could actually get help. Like he could see a fucking therapist and not just have to rely completely on Chen Yuzhi (who was definitely still learning about mental health and mental disease during the drama)
I think probably the technology for finding criminals would be a lot better because hello, we got AFIS and DNA and all this forensic stuff that can help narrow suspects down, rather than people just going off word of mouth. I mean, yeah that shit kind of works but like...forensics. Forensics would definitely help with everything (and maybe I'm a little biased because forensics is my thing)
Keying's kidnapping would maybe change? Like, yeah brothels are a thing but like...with modern times, human trafficking is like...fucking huge. It's a huge network so I think that part of the story would be focused on a bit more other than just being like...yeah we'll find your sister and then never speaking about it for like how many episodes
Same with like the opium dens and Jinma Hall...like that could get pretty big too. Just because in the drama, once they took out like "the leaders" shit kind of died down and it all but disappeared but like...that's not how it works in modern times. Most gangs/triads will go into hiding and then regroup later once they find a new leader. They don't just die off unless they have no one that's willing to step up. So maybe the drug dealing would be bigger, because drug trafficking is also pretty big in modern times.
Yu Tangchun's throat disease. He wouldn't fucking die because of it since they actually have medicine and surgeries now that could help him recover. If he has a throat disease (I'm thinking he had some type of thyroid cancer), then that shit's like...easily curable, if treated soon and quickly. Because again, in the drama, they didn't have the type of medicine and technology that we have today to be able to cure that shit. And if Tangchun doesn't die, Zhan Junbai doesn't go off the fucking deep end and everyone's happy!

mafia au titled 'blood in, blood out' where jiang yuelou was sold to the Zhan syndicate as a drug runner when he was a kid to pay off his father's debts but he worked his way up the ranks, and meets a doctor who tries to save him and his men despite his background as a criminal... after hearing the story about his sister, he vows to help, dark!Jiang Yuelou is what it's about. bonus points if zhan junbai and him have a sort of brotherly relationship... if u have the time! Just a lil idea...
I had so much fun with this prompt that I wrote 9.9K words for it, which I haven't done since The Witch and The Prince which was 10.7K. I hope y'all enjoy reading this fic, because I most certainly enjoyed writing it.
Jiang Yuelou was not a very nice man, but given his childhood and his background, could you really blame him?  From the time he was a kid, no older than eight or nine, he was sold to one of the largest crime family in Jing City, the Zhans, to pay off his father’s debt, as his father had gotten into a bit of trouble due to constant opium usage.  Thankfully, the Zhans took him in and started him off as a drug runner (as they had their fingers in many different illegal pots).  After a while, Jiang Yuelou had gotten pretty good at that and slowly rose up the ranks, starting off as a soldier then moved up to being a caporegime and then finally to underboss, working side by side by Zhan Junbai, the Zhan’s leader after his uncle, Zhan Tianqing, had died.  In the Zhan family, Jiang Yuelou was probably the youngest member to move ranks as quickly as he did, but Jiang Yuelou was quick and efficient and if he was given a task, he got it done.  And Zhan Junbai liked efficiency, which is why he chose Jiang Yuelou out of all the members to be his right-hand man (Jiang Yuelou was also the only man that he trusted but he wasn’t going to say that out loud as to not start a fight within the family).  But none of the members seemed to mind too much as they all liked Jiang Yuelou and they all liked his work, especially when getting information out of people; violence was Jiang Yuelou’s specialty and he wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to get, more like take, what he wanted.
~*~*~*~*~*~
It was a quiet early morning, around midnight, as Jiang Yuelou and his men as well as another triad stood in a warehouse, a box of opium between one of Jiang Yuelou’s men and the other triad’s leader.  The triad leader then reached out and took a block of opium, tearing it open and giving it a sniff while Jiang Yuelou’s man examined the gold bars that he had brought as payment.  Once he had determined that the gold was good, the man looked over at Jiang Yuelou, who nodded slightly, before he looked at the triad leader, who just smirked before shutting the suitcase, causing Jiang Yuelou’s eyes to narrow before he picked up a nearby axe and threw it, hitting one of the triad members in the shoulder, killing him.  All of Jiang Yuelou’s men then pulled out axes, ready for a fight, while outside, a tall man with light skin, brown eyes, and dark brown hair rode his bike over to the warehouse, trying to escape the rain that came out of nowhere.  Back inside the warehouse, Jiang Yuelou and his men were fighting against the other triad, men from both sides either losing their lives or getting injured.  Outside, the young man frowned when he heard shouting coming from inside the warehouse, so he turned towards the wooden door, only to have one of the doors burst open and crash to the ground, a man landing on top of it.  The young man let out a soft gasp, just as Jiang Yuelou stepped out of the warehouse, looking down at the man, who definitely was dead, before he turned to look at the young man, who looked back at him with wide eyes. “What…what happened here?” he asked softly.  Jiang Yuelou smiled slightly. “Just a little deal gone wrong” he replied.  The young man looked at him before his eyes moved to Jiang Yuelou’s arm, noticing that it was bleeding.  His eyes widened and he reached out, causing Jiang Yuelou to react and quickly grab him by the wrist, making him cry out in pain. “Wait, wait, please!  I’m a doctor!  I’m a doctor, I can look at your arm” he promised.  Jiang Yuelou looked at him in confusion. “Why would you do that?” he asked, still not letting go of the young man’s wrist.  The young man looked at him before he smiled slightly, making Jiang Yuelou’s cold and cruel heart flutter. “Because I’m a doctor” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou hummed before he let go of the young man’s wrist. “I guess I can let you take a look” he murmured.  The young man nodded and quickly turned, grabbing his doctor’s bag out of his bike’s basket before he motioned to the warehouse. “Please” he instructed.  Jiang Yuelou raised an eyebrow before he huffed and headed back inside, the young man following behind him.  The minute Jiang Yuelou’s men saw the young man, a few of them raised their axes to attack, causing the young man to freeze in fear but Jiang Yuelou just raised a hand. “At ease.  He’s here to help” he declared.  The men looked at the young man, who nodded earnestly, before they lowered their axes, allowing the young man to walk over to Jiang Yuelou and place his bag on the table.  He then looked at Jiang Yuelou and motioned to his jacket. “Can you remove this?  I can’t get to your wound” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou smirked before he took off his jacket, revealing a blood-soaked white dress shirt sleeve.  The young man gasped before he reached out, about to touch when he stopped and looked up at Jiang Yuelou. “Can I?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou smirked again before he nodded, allowing the young man to reach out and touch the wound, frowning when he pulled his hand away and his fingers came back covered in blood.   “Something the matter, doc?” Jiang Yuelou asked, raising an eyebrow.  Chen Yuzhi looked up at him before he sighed. “Your arm’s bleeding pretty heavily, it’s going to make tending to it pretty difficult…” he murmured before he turned to his bag and opened it, pulling out a bottle of iodine and a couple of cotton swabs as well as a pair of gloves.  He then slipped on the gloves before he grabbed the bottle of iodine and opened it, soaking one of the cotton balls with it before he began to clean the wound, making Jiang Yuelou grunt in pain.  The minute his men heard that he was in pain, they immediately raised their axes, about to attack again when the young man raised his head and glared at them. “You attack me, your leader might lose his arm.  If this wound isn’t treated, it’ll get infected and cause him to get sick and maybe even die.  If that happens, there will be nothing doctors can do to save him.  Do you want that?” he snapped.  Jiang Yuelou’s men looked at him in shock, as did Jiang Yuelou, before Jiang Yuelou barked out a laugh. “You’re a feisty little thing, aren’t you?” he teased.  The young man looked at him before he huffed. “I’m just trying to save your life” he replied as he continued to clean the wound, Jiang Yuelou hissing in pain every now and then.  Once the wound was clean as it was going to get, the young man looked at Jiang Yuelou’s shirt sleeve before he sighed. “I’m sorry about this” he murmured as he unbuttoned the buttons from around the cuff of the sleeve before he grabbed the ripped part of the sleeve and yanked, tearing it away. “Hey!” Jiang Yuelou exclaimed but the young man ignored him and continued working, cleaning the wound again with more iodine, making Jiang Yuelou grit his teeth as the young man continued to clean until he thought the wound was clean enough.  Once he was satisfied, he reached into his bag and grabbed out a small suture kit, opening it to pull out a hooked needle and some thread. “You really think it needs stitches?” Jiang Yuelou asked.  The young man looked at him before he sighed. “I think it’ll heal more nicely if I stitch it shut…if it’s alright with you, of course.  It’s your arm” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou looked at him before he chuffed and shrugged. “You’re the doctor.  I’ll do what you think is best” he declared.  The young man smiled before he quickly grabbed a role of gauze and held it out to Jiang Yuelou. “I don’t have any anesthesia, so this is going to hurt.  You might want to bite down on something” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou hummed before he leaned forward and took the gauze in his mouth, making the young man blink before he cleared his throat and went to work, carefully but skillfully sewing the wound close.  He then tied off the thread and snipped off the excess before he looked at Jiang Yuelou. “There.  Now, let me just cover it and you should be good” he murmured as he grabbed a non-adhesive wound dressing and placed it over the stitches, making sure that they were completely covered before he wrapped gauze over it and finished with velband and crepe.  After he had finished bandaging Jiang Yuelou’s arm, he looked at Jiang Yuelou and smiled.   “All done” he declared.  Jiang Yuelou looked down at his arm before he huffed and took the roll of gauze out of his mouth, shoving it in his pants pocket, since he was sure the doctor wouldn’t want that back. “Not bad” he murmured as he slipped his jacket back on while the young man walked over to the man who had checked the gold bars for Jiang Yuelou and grabbed another bottle, opening it before shaking some of the powder into the bullet wound that the man had in his chest.  He then grabbed some gauze and pressed it against the wound before taking the man’s hand, making sure he held the gauze there. “Cover it with your hand” he instructed before he turned and noticed another man lying on the ground.  His eyes widened and he quickly reached into his kit, pulling out a small, rolled leather case before he walked over to the man and knelt down, opening the case to reveal acupuncture needles.  However, before he could even use them, Jiang Yuelou noticed them, making his eyes widen. “Hey, stop” he ordered as he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the back of the young man’s head.  The young man froze, just as the sound of footsteps running towards the warehouse could be heard.  Jiang Yuelou looked up with wide eyes before he put his gun away and reached down, grabbing the young doctor by the arm. “Get up.  Get up” he ordered.  The young man’s eyes widened, and he quickly stood to his feet, making sure to grab his acupuncture case on the way up.  Jiang Yuelou then gave him a shove towards his bag, making him look back at him with wide eyes. “Wha—” he started. “Go.  Go, get out of here.  Before you get caught” Jiang Yuelou ordered.  The young man blinked before he nodded and quickly packed up his bag and quickly headed towards the back of warehouse, quietly slipping away.  Jiang Yuelou watched him walk away as another one of his men looked at him. “Why’d you let him get away, boss?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou was quiet before he shook his head. “Don’t know.  But let’s go” he ordered, motioning for his men to follow him out the way the doctor had left.
~*~*~*~*~*~
After Jiang Yuelou left the warehouse, he headed back to the Zhan family mansion, going upstairs to brief Zhan Junbai what happened.  He then headed over to Zhan Junbai’s office, knocking on the door before he turned the knob and opened the door, stepping inside. “Zhan-xiong” he called out, making Zhan Junbai, who was sitting in his chair and reading a book, look up at him and smile. “Jiang-xiong” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou sighed. “Yeah, I wouldn’t be smiling.  Trade went bad” he grumbled.  Zhan Junbai hummed. “I’m not really surprised.  Deal with that triad is like pulling teeth” he murmured before he noticed Jiang Yuelou’s bloody jacket sleeve. “Jiang-xiong!  You’re hurt!” he exclaimed, quickly putting down his book before standing to his feet and walking over to Jiang Yuelou, standing before him.  Jiang Yuelou looked down at his arm before he huffed. “Yeah, one of the assholes sliced my arm” he grumbled.  Zhan Junbai huffed. “You’re lucky you didn’t lose your arm” he replied before he motioned to said arm. “Can I see?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou shrugged before he shrugged off his jacket, revealing his bandaged arm and torn-off sleeve.  Zhan Junbai raised an eyebrow. “Did you do this yourself?” he asked as he reached out and took Jiang Yuelou’s arm in his hands, careful to not hurt him too much.  Jiang Yuelou hissed softly before he shook his head. “No, some doctor showed up and offered to take a look at it” he replied.  Zhan Junbai raised an eyebrow. “A doctor?” he repeated, looking at Jiang Yuelou in surprise.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “Yeah” he answered.  Zhan Junbai frowned. “What was a doctor doing at a place like that?” he demanded.  Jiang Yuelou shook his head. “Don’t know.  He had a bike with him so he must have just finished a house call” he mused.  Zhan Junbai hummed as he studied the bandaging. “Well, until this heals, I’m not letting you go out in the field” he declared.  Jiang Yuelou looked at him with wide eyes. “Zhan-xiong!” he exclaimed.  Zhan Junbai huffed. “Don’t argue with me, Jiang-xiong.  Besides, I’m going to need you to go to Hong Kong to keep an eye on Lu Ka Si for me” he declared.  Jiang Yuelou frowned. “Lu Ka Si?  That old man?” he exclaimed.  Zhan Junbai hummed. “Yeah, him.  He’s trying to take control of Hong Kong and the trade there, which isn’t a bad thing, but I feel like he has an ulterior motive” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou frowned again. “Ulterior motive?  Like what?” he asked.  Zhan Junbai looked at him and smiled. “That’s why I’m sending you to Hong Kong.  You’re going to tell me whether or not my hunch is right” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou looked at him before he huffed. “You’re the boss” he murmured.  Zhan Junbai smirked. “I am” he agreed.  Jiang Yuelou rolled his eyes before he playfully punched Zhan Junbai in the arm. “Shut up” he teased.  Zhan Junbai stuck his tongue out at him, only to have Jiang Yuelou grab at it. “Do that again and I might just pull your tongue out” he warned, but his tone was playful.  Zhan Junbai smiled before he motioned to the door. “Go rest.  I need you at your peak for Hong Kong” he instructed.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “You got it, boss” he agreed before he turned and headed out of Zhan Junbai’s office, Zhan Junbai watching him leave.
~*~*~*~*~*~
A few weeks later, when Jiang Yuelou arm had recovered (quite nicely I might add), he headed off with two of his most trusted subordinates, Song Rong and Sun Yongren, to Hong Kong.  When they arrived, Sun Yongren huffed. “We were really sent to Hong Kong to do some babysitting?  Really?” he grumbled.  Song Rong huffed. “At least we get to do something.  This is better than staying back in Jing City” he stated.  Jiang Yuelou looked at them before he rolled his eyes. “Boys, boys, we’re not here to babysit, we’re here to see if Zhan Junbai’s hunch is right or not” he stated before he motioned to a nearby café. “Let’s go get some coffee.  That train ride wiped me out” he murmured.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren nodded, the three men soon taking off towards the café.  When they arrived, they sat down at a table, the waitress soon coming to take their orders.  As they waited for their orders, Sun Yongren crossed his arms. “What kind of hunch does Zhan Junbai have, exactly?” he asked, looking over at Jiang Yuelou.  Jiang Yuelou shook his head. “No idea.  That’s what we’re here to find out” he replied, just as the waitress came back with their coffees, placing them before them.  She then turned and walked away as Song Rong, Sun Yongren, and Jiang Yuelou took a sip of their coffees. “God, that’s good” Song Rong murmured.  Jiang Yuelou nodded in agreement, just as he looked outside, noticing a familiar face.  His eyes widened in surprise before he put down his cup and stood to his feet, making Song Rong and Sun Yongren look up at him. “Where are you going, Boss?” Sun Yongren asked.  Jiang Yuelou said nothing as he continued out of the café, causing Song Rong and Sun Yongren to look at each other. “What was that all about?” Sun Yongren asked.  Song Rong shook his head. “No idea” he replied.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Jiang Yuelou continued out of the café and over to the bridge, where a tall man with light skin, brown eyes, and dark brown hair was finishing speaking to a woman.  As he turned around, his eyes widened when he saw Jiang Yuelou. “Fancy meeting you here, doc” he teased.  The young man blinked, his mouth falling open in surprise before he dipped his head. “Hello” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou smirked as he tilted his head to the side. “What are you doing all the way in Hong Kong?” he asked.  The young doctor blinked before he lowered his head and clutched the papers he was holding in his hands tightly, making Jiang Yuelou frown. “Hey, hey, what’s wrong, doc?” he asked before he noticed the papers in the young man’s hand.  He then reached out and took one of the flyers, looking at it. “What’s this?  A missing person?” he murmured as he read the flyer. “Chen Keying” he murmured before he looked at the young man before him. “Who is she?” he asked.  The young man sniffled.   “My sister” he croaked.  Jiang Yuelou nodded slowly. “I see…and you are—” he started, making the young man look up at him. “Dr. Chen Yuzhi.  Her brother” he answered.  Jiang Yuelou hummed. “Chen Yuzhi” he repeated before he crossed his arms. “What happened to your sister?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi took a deep breath, trying to contain his emotions, but he couldn’t help but let out a whimper as he lowered his head.  Jiang Yuelou felt his heart clench for him, so he reached out and grasped him by the arm, making Chen Yuzhi look up at him with tear filled eyes. “Take your time.  Just take take a deep breath” he soothed.  Chen Yuzhi nodded and took a deep breath before he let out a shuddering breath. “When I was coming home from work one evening, Keying, who normally sits and waits for me outside on our front step, was gone.  She was gone and…and I think she was taken.  I looked around all the local brothels in Jing City and she wasn’t there, and they said she might be here in Hong Kong so I came as soon as I could.  I’ve been trying to find her all day but I…I can’t—” he started before he let out a sob.  Jiang Yuelou was quiet before he reached up and cupped the back of Chen Yuzhi’s neck, rubbing his neck comfortingly.   “Shh, shh…” he soothed, his touch unusually gentle for a man who usually used his hands to commit violence.  He continued to rub Chen Yuzhi’s neck, hushing the young man as he cried before he sighed softly. “I’ll help you find her” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi looked up at him with wide, teary eyes, surprise evident on his face. “What?” he breathed.  Jiang Yuelou smiled slightly. “I’ll help you find her.  I have friends in…high places.  I can ask around and see if they’ve seen her.  Okay?” he offered.  Chen Yuzhi blinked, his eyes wide like a deer in headlights, before he reached out and took Jiang Yuelou’s hand. “Will you really?” he breathed.  Jiang Yuelou smiled. “Yeah.  I’ll take care of all of this, so don’t worry about it” he assured.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him, feeling tears come to his eyes again before he let out a sob, tears streaming down his face.   “Thank you.  Thank you” he whispered.  Jiang Yuelou smiled softly and nodded, reaching out to gently wipe away Chen Yuzhi’s tears. “Don’t cry, doc.  Don’t cry.  I’ll find your sister.  I’ll find her” he assured.  Chen Yuzhi nodded and let out a shuddering breath as Jiang Yuelou removed his hand from his neck, clapping him on the arm. “Go home, Yuzhi.  I’ll look for her” he assured.  Chen Yuzhi sniffled and wiped his eyes before he nodded. “Thank you” he thanked before he turned, about to walk away when he stopped and turned to look back at Jiang Yuelou. “Wait!” he exclaimed, making Jiang Yuelou look at him with a raised eyebrow. “Yuzhi?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi smiled and quickly reached into his pocket, pulling out his wallet and opening it, reaching inside.  He then pulled out a photo and handed it to Jiang Yuelou, who frowned as he took it from him. “So you know what Keying looks like.  I don’t want you running around looking for a little girl that you have no idea what she looks like” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou looked at the photo, smiling softly at it before he looked at Chen Yuzhi. “Thank you” he thanked.  Chen Yuzhi shook his head. “No, thank you” he whispered before he turned and walked away again, Jiang Yuelou watching him walk away. “Who was that, Boss?” a voice called out, making Jiang Yuelou look over his shoulder to see Song Rong and Sun Yongren standing behind him. “The doctor who tended to my arm a couple of weeks ago” Jiang Yuelou answered as he slipped the photo into his leather jacket pocket. “What are you looking for?” Song Rong asked. “His little sister.  He thinks she’s been taken” Jiang Yuelou answered.  Sun Yongren frowned. “By who?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou shook his head. “I don’t know…but I promised him I’ll look for her, so that’s what I’m going to do” he declared.  Song Rong chuckled. “Never seen you so gentle before, Boss” he teased.  Jiang Yuelou tsked. “Don’t get used to it” he replied as he crossed his arms. “I wonder…” he murmured before he turned to look at Song Rong. “You and Yongren start asking around the brothels here in Hong Kong.  Ask them in they’ve seen Lu Ka Si around or know of him” he instructed.  Song Rong nodded. “Yes sir” he replied as Sun Yongren raised an eyebrow. “And what are you going to do?” he asked.   “I have some friends here that I need to speak to.  I’ll be back in a little bit” Jiang Yuelou declared before he turned and walked off, leaving Song Rong and Sun Yongren confused. “I’ve never seen him so gentle before…wonder what’s so special about that doctor?” Song Rong asked.  Sun Yongren shook his head. “Should we look into him?” he inquired.  Song Rong hummed. “Probably not.  If he finds out, he’ll probably have our heads” he declared.  Sun Yongren nodded. “And I don’t want to die” he agreed.  Song Rong chuckled before he clapped Sun Yongren on the arm. “Let’s go” he ordered.  Sun Yongren nodded and both men headed off to go do as Jiang Yuelou instructed.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Meanwhile, Jiang Yuelou headed to a nearby police station, stepping inside and walking over to the information desk. “I’m looking for Detective Wang Meng.  Is he here?” he asked, looking at the officer behind the desk.   “Jiang Yuelou” a voice called out, making Jiang Yuelou turn to see a tall man with light tan skin, brown eyes, and short black hair styled in an undercut standing behind him.  He smiled before he walked over to him and stopped before him. “Can you talk?” he asked.  Wang Meng nodded and motioned outside. “Shall we?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou nodded and both men headed out of the police station, walking down the street. “What are you doing here?” Wang Meng asked.   “Business” Jiang Yuelou answered before he looked over at Wang Meng. “You’ve done some surveillance on Lu Ka Si, haven’t you?” he asked.  Wang Meng nodded. “Some, why?  Zhan Junbai asking about him?” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “He thinks that he has some ulterior motive.  Especially about wanting control of the docks here ” he explained.  Wang Meng frowned. “Like what?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou was quiet before he looked over at Wang Meng. “Like human trafficking” he answered.  Wang Meng’s eyes widened. “You think he’s smuggling people?” he hissed.  Jiang Yuelou shrugged. “I don’t know, but it’s not something that he’s not capable of” he replied.  Wang Meng hummed. “I suppose you’re right…what do you want me to do about it?” he asked.   “I want you to continue your surveillance on Lu Ka Si.  I need to know if he’s involved in human trafficking…it’s important” Jiang Yuelou explained.  Wang Meng raised an eyebrow. “Is this for Zhan Junbai or for you?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou shot him a glare before he sighed. “A little bit of both.  Zhan Junbai doesn’t do human trafficking, that’s the one thing he won’t touch, not even with a ten-foot pole.  If he figures out that Lu Ka Si is involved with human trafficking, I’m sure he’ll want to put a stop to it” he explained.  Wang Meng nodded. “That I can understand.  But how does this concern you?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou sighed. “I promised a…friend of mine that I would help him find his sister” he explained.  Wang Meng hummed. “You think she was taken?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou shrugged. “That’s what he said.  And I have no reason to believe that he would lie to me” he replied.  Wang Meng hummed. “I’ll look into it” he assured.  Jiang Yuelou nodded before he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the photograph Chen Yuzhi gave him, handing it over to Wang Meng. “This is the girl” he stated.  Wang Meng took the photo and looked at it before humming. “I’ll keep my eye out for her” he assured, handing the photo back to him.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “Thanks” he thanked.  Wang Meng smirked. “It’s the least I can do.  You and Zhan Junbai have saved my ass more than once before” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou chuckled. “Glad you remember” he teased.  Wang Meng huffed and rolled his eyes. “I’ve got to get back to work.  I’ll give you a call if I find anything” he assured.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “Thank you” he thanked before he turned and walked off, going to find Sun Yongren and Song Rong while Wang Meng turned and headed back to the police station.
~*~*~*~*~*~
After speaking to Wang Meng, Jiang Yuelou met up with Song Rong and Sun Yongren, crossing his arms when he met them. “Well?” he asked.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren sighed. “They said that Lu Ka Si never visited them himself, but that there was a man who visited in his place” Song Rong explained.  Jiang Yuelou frowned. “A man?” he repeated.  Sun Yongren nodded. “A few women said that he always brought a girl along with him, like he was dropping them off or handing them off to the brothels” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou’s frown deepened. “He handed off girls?” he repeated.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren nodded. “That’s what they said” they answered.  Jiang Yuelou hummed. “We get a name?” he inquired.  Song Rong shook his head. “No sir” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou was quiet before he looked at them. “Did they ever see him with a little girl?” he asked.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren frowned. “A little girl?  We didn’t know to ask about a little girl” Sun Yongren stated.  Jiang Yuelou growled before he took a deep breath. “So we can confirm that Lu Ka Si or at least his men have been smuggling or distributing girls to brothels then?” he asked.  Song Rong hummed. “I don’t think so.  Unless we can catch Lu Ka Si or his men in the distribution of women, we can’t do anything about it” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou hummed before he looked at Sun Yongren and Song Rong. “Let’s head back to Jing City.  I need to tell Zhan Junbai about what we found” he declared.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren nodded, the three men heading towards the train station to head back home.

When they returned to Jing City, Jiang Yuelou headed back to the Zhan Mansion, heading upstairs to speak to Zhan Junbai.  When he stepped inside the office, Zhan Junbai looked over at him. “Well?  Was my hunch correct?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou raised an eyebrow. “What, that Lu Ka Si was smuggling people?  I think so” he replied.  Zhan Junbai smirked. “It would make sense why he would want control of the ports and docks in Hong Kong.  Not only would it make opium trade easier, it would also make smuggling a hell of a lot easier” he murmured.  Jiang Yuelou hummed before he took a deep breath. “Zhan-xiong…will you do me a favor?” he asked.  Zhan Junbai looked over at him and raised an eyebrow. “How unlike you to ask for favors, Jiang-xiong.  What can I do?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou took another deep breath before he reached into his pocket and pulled out the photo Chen Yuzhi gave him, handing it over to Zhan Junbai. “That little girl in the photo, her name’s Chen Keying.  She’s missing” he explained.  Zhan Junbai took the photo and looked at it before he looked at Jiang Yuelou and raised an eyebrow. “And what would you like me to do?” he asked.   “I promised her brother that I would find her.  Could you use your resources and underground network to find her, please?” Jiang Yuelou replied.  Zhan Junbai hummed as he looked at the photo. “Now this is really uncharacteristic for you, Jiang-xiong” he mused.  Jiang Yuelou glared at him. “Look, can you find her or not?  I promised Yuzhi that I would find her and I’m not breaking that promise” he growled.  Zhan Junbai raised an eyebrow. “Yuzhi?” he repeated.  Jiang Yuelou sighed heavily. “Dr. Chen Yuzhi.  He’s the doctor that tended to my arm and a couple of our men” he explained, pointing to the young man in the photo.  Zhan Junbai stared at him before he smiled. “You like him” he mused.  Jiang Yuelou’s eyes widened. “What?!  No, I don’t—” he started when Zhan Junbai chuckled. “You do.  Otherwise, you wouldn’t do something like this” he stated, holding up the photo.  He then looked down at the photo and hummed. “He’s not bad looking…I just never thought you’d fall for the goody two shoes type” he mused as he handed the photo back to Jiang Yuelou.  Jiang Yuelou took the photo back and looked it, smiling slightly at it. “He’s got some fire in him…he’s definitely not a pushover, that’s for sure” he murmured before he looked up at Zhan Junbai. “Will you, Zhan-xiong?  Look for her?” he asked.  Zhan Junbai hummed before he shrugged. “Since you asked so nicely and because you hardly ask for favors, I suppose.  I’ll look into it” he declared.  Jiang Yuelou smiled. “Thank you.  I have Wang Meng checking in Hong Kong, so we have both bases covered” he mused.  Zhan Junbai looked at him before he huffed and shook his head. “When this is all over, I need to meet this doctor who softened your cold and cruel heart” he teased.  Jiang Yuelou tsked. “Oh, fuck off” he grumbled.  Zhan Junbai chuckled before he held out his hand. “Let me see that photo?  I’m going to need it whenever I meet the underground” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou nodded and handed over the photo, which Zhan Junbai took gently in his hand. “I’ll make sure to take good care of this” he assured.  Jiang Yuelou nodded again. “I’m going to go see Yuzhi and let him know” he declared as he turned and headed out of Zhan Junbai’s office.  Zhan Junbai watched him leave before he looked down at the photo in his hands. “I will find you…for Jiang-xiong” he murmured.
~*~*~*~*~*~
After leaving Zhan Junbai’s mansion, Jiang Yuelou headed off to town, hoping to maybe find Chen Yuzhi, since he said he was a doctor.  As he walked around, he found that he couldn’t find the young man, so he decided to ask around.  Thankfully someone was nice enough to point him in the direction of a nearby clinic, so he walked over and poked his head inside, noticing a young man dressed in a cream three-piece suit, smiling at a young child and their parent.  Jiang Yuelou chuckled before he decided to lean up against the clinic, waiting for the child and the parent to leave before he slipped inside and walked over to the young man’s desk, sitting down on the edge of it.  The young man looked up at him, his eyes widening in surprise. “Oh!  It’s you!” he exclaimed.  Jiang Yuelou chuckled and held out his hand. “I never introduced myself.  Jiang Yuelou” he greeted.  The young man blinked before he laughed and reached out, shaking Jiang Yuelou’s hand. “Dr. Chen Yuzhi” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou smiled as he pulled his hand away and looked around at the clinic. “Nice clinic you got here, doc” he mused.  Chen Yuzhi smiled. “Thank you” he thanked before he tilted his head to the side. “What are you doing here?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou looked at him before he smiled. “Oh, I just stopped by to let you know that I’ve got a few friends of mine looking into Keying’s disappearance.  Whenever they know where she is, I’ll go and get her and bring her back to you” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him with wide eyes. “Will you really?” he breathed.  Jiang Yuelou smirked. “I promised you, didn’t I?” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi smiled and nodded, but his smile was sad, making Jiang Yuelou frown before he reached out and gently tipped Chen Yuzhi’s head up, Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widening in surprise. “Why the long face, Yuzhi?  Aren’t you happy?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi blinked before he nodded. “I am…I am” he whispered, a single tear trailing out of the corner of his eye.  Jiang Yuelou huffed as he removed his hand from under Chen Yuzhi’s chin and reached up, wiping away the tear. “Then why are you crying?” he asked gently.  Chen Yuzhi sniffled and wiped his eyes as he looked at Jiang Yuelou. “Because finally someone other than me cares about her.  I asked the police to do something, and they just brushed it aside, saying that she’d come home eventually.  I know my Keying; she wouldn’t just run off and leave.  I know she was taken and no one…no one wanted to help me” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou let out a low growl as Chen Yuzhi looked at him and smiled. “Until you came along” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou felt his heart flutter as he looked at the young doctor before he cleared his throat and nodded. “Of course.  Now, uh, I have to go but uh, I’ll let you know if I hear or find anything” he assured.  Chen Yuzhi nodded as Jiang Yuelou slipped off his desk and headed out of the clinic, his hands in his pockets. “Gentle is a weird look on you, Jiang-xiong” a voice called out, making Jiang Yuelou look over to see Zhan Junbai leaning against Chen Yuzhi’s clinic.  Jiang Yuelou tsked. “It’s only with him, okay?  I’m not like this with anyone else, and you know it” he grumbled.  Zhan Junbai chuckled as he pushed off the clinic and walked over to Jiang Yuelou. “I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I’m just not used to seeing you be so gentle” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou hummed as he began walking, Zhan Junbai at his side. “So, did you hear anything?” Jiang Yuelou asked.  Zhan Junbai shook his head. “Nothing so far.  I’ve asked around and I’ve shown the underground her picture, but nothing” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou growled before he pinched the bridge of his nose. “I really hope she’s alive…I don’t want to break that kind of news to him” he murmured.  Zhan Junbai hummed. “He does seem a bit fragile in that sense…” he agreed.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “Which is why we need to find her” he declared.  Zhan Junbai huffed. “You know we’re not the police, right?  Finding people isn’t really our thing.  Getting rid of people is more our thing” he reminded.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “I know that.  But the police aren’t doing shit to try and find her so if not them, then us.  Besides, we have more networks and connections than the police” he stated.  Zhan Junbai sighed. “You’re doing all this…for a little girl?  And for a doctor that tended to your arm once?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou hummed. “Yes, but I’m also doing it for another reason” he replied.  Zhan Junbai raised an eyebrow. “And that reason is—” he started, making Jiang Yuelou look over at him. “Well, you don’t like human traffickers, right?” he asked.  Zhan Junbai nodded. “I may be a cruel man, but I’m not a fan of ripping women and children away from their families and selling them.  It’s inhumane” he murmured.  Jiang Yuelou huffed. “Says the man who deals opium and weapons, which can end up ripping and tearing families apart” he reminded.  Zhan Junbai hummed. “Yes, but those are indirect casualties.  Human trafficking is direct casualties” he stated.  Jiang Yuelou tsked. “So basically what you’re saying is, you don’t want to get your hands dirty” he mused.  Zhan Junbai shrugged. “In a sense, yes.  That’s why I have you.  You don’t mind getting your hands dirty” he stated.  Jiang Yuelou smirked. “Well, I have always been your errand boy” he mused.  Zhan Junbai looked over at him and frowned. “You’re more than just that, Jiang Yuelou” he declared as he suddenly stopped walking, making Jiang Yuelou stop as well and look over at him with wide eyes. “You’re family.  And if I didn’t care for you, and want to help you, I wouldn’t have agreed to do this favor for you” Zhan Junbai continued as he reached out and clapped Jiang Yuelou on the arm. “You’re my brother, Jiang Yuelou.  We’re family.  Okay?” he declared, looking Jiang Yuelou in the eyes.  Jiang Yuelou blinked, feeling tears come to his eyes, before he nodded.  It had been a long time since he had anyone call him “family” and he definitely wasn’t expecting it to come from Zhan Junbai. “Let’s go find this little girl, huh?  You can punch Lu Ka Si in the face if he’s behind her trafficking” Zhan Junbai offered.  Jiang Yuelou wiped his eyes before he sniffled and nodded. “Oh, I’ll do more than just punch him in the face” he growled as they started walking again.  Zhan Junbai laughed and shook his head. “Easy tiger, we can’t kill him until we find out if that girl is alive or not” he reminded.  Jiang Yuelou growled again. “She better be, or I’m dropping Lu Ka Si into the sea with weights tied around his ankles” he spat.  Zhan Junbai smiled. “And there’s my violent Jiang Yuelou.  I wondered where he went” he teased, giving Jiang Yuelou an affectionate shoulder nudge.  Jiang Yuelou tsked and gave him a playful shove. “Oh fuck off” he grumbled, Zhan Junbai chuckling as they continued down the street.
~*~*~*~*~*~
It took a while, but after a few weeks of searching, Jiang Yuelou received a phone call from Wang Meng, saying that they had caught a man distributing girls to different brothels and that he might be the one who knows where Keying is.  The minute he heard, he rushed to Zhan Junbai’s office, all but breaking down the door. “They think they might have found the middle man” he breathed.  Zhan Junbai looked up with wide eyes before he stood up and walked over to the coat rack, grabbing his coat before looking at Jiang Yuelou. “Let’s go” he ordered.  Jiang Yuelou nodded and soon both men were off, heading to the station to get on the next train to Hong Kong.
~*~*~*~*~*~
When they arrived, Wang Meng was waiting for them, much to Zhan Junbai’s surprise. “You asked Wang Meng?” he asked as he and Jiang Yuelou walked over to the detective. “He’s my contact here in Hong Kong and besides, he owes us” Jiang Yuelou explained.  Zhan Junbai hummed as Wang Meng dipped his head. “I don’t want my men to see me with you, so we need to move quickly” he stated.  Zhan Junbai and Jiang Yuelou nodded and followed after the detective, the three men moving quickly through the train station.  After they exited the train station, they headed over to the police station, Wang Meng leading them to the holding cells, where they were holding the man.  The minute the man saw Wang Meng, he laughed. “You think I’m going to tell you anything?  That’s funny” he sneered.  Wang Meng huffed. “Oh, it’s not me you’re going to be talking to” he replied as he opened the cell door and stepped back, allowing Zhan Junbai and Jiang Yuelou to step inside.  The minute the man saw them, his eyes widened and he let out a horrified gasp, causing Zhan Junbai to laugh darkly. “I take it you know who we are then.  Good” he purred as Jiang Yuelou cracked his knuckles. “Now, all you have to do is tell us a few things and my friend here won’t break your face” Zhan Junbai continued.  The man gulped and looked over at Jiang Yuelou, who was glaring at him, before he looked back at Zhan Junbai. “What do you want to know?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou then walked over to him and pulled out the picture of Keying and Chen Yuzhi, showing it to the man. “Have you seen this little girl?” he asked, pointing to Keying.  The man leaned forward and looked at the photo before he shrugged. “Maybe I have.  Why?” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou growled and slipped the photo back into his pocket before he grabbed the man by the front of his shirt. “Because she’s missing and I need to get her back” he growled.  The man smirked. “What’s in it for me?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou growled before he punched the man in the face, making him groan in pain. “You’re in no positions to make any deals.  You either tell us where she is or you die.  Simple as that” Zhan Junbai replied calmly.  The man gulped before he shook his head. “I don’t know where she is” he explained, causing Jiang Yuelou to punch him in the face again. “Don’t lie to me.  You know where she is” he snarled.  The man shook his head again. “I don’t.  I really don’t.  The only person who knows where the girls are is Lu Ka Si.  He’s the one who chooses the girls and then all I have to do is pick them up wherever he tells me they are” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou hummed as Zhan Junbai stepped forward. “Do you where we can find Lu Ka Si?” he asked.  The man shook his head. “He only calls me to tell me where the girls are or he’ll send someone to find me” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou let out another low growl, about to lose his shit, when Zhan Junbai placed a hand on his shoulder. “Easy, Jiang-xiong.  I think I have an idea” he declared as he looked at the man. “Can you get in touch with Lu Ka Si?” he asked.  The man nodded. “I have his number memorized” he replied.  Zhan Junbai nodded in reply before he looked over at Wang Meng. “Uncuff him and bring him to a phone” he ordered.  Wang Meng looked at him with wide eyes before he sighed and stepped into the cell, uncuffing the man before dragging him out of the cell, Zhan Junbai and Jiang Yuelou following him.  They then headed over to one of the police desk, Wang Meng grabbing the phone receiver before holding it out to the man. “Call him” he ordered.  The man nodded and quickly dialed Lu Ka Si’s number before he handed the receiver over to Zhan Junbai, who took it and placed it to his ear. “Hello?” a voice answered “Lu Ka Si” Zhan Junbai greeted after a moment. “Executive Zhan!  What do I owe this pleasure?” Lu Ka Si asked.  Zhan Junbai smiled darkly. “I know you’ve been talking about possibly doing trade between us, so I was wondering if you would be willing it meet up to discuss this trade” he explained. “Oh, you’re in Hong Kong?” Lu Ka Si asked. “I am.  What do you say we meet by the docks?  As that is where I know you want some control” Zhan Junbai explained. “If Executive Zhan is asking to meet, who am I to say no?  The docks will be fine.  Shall we say…an hour?” Lu Ka Si asked.   “Perfect.  And don’t be late” Zhan Junbai warned before he hung up the call and looked at Wang Meng and Jiang Yuelou. “The docks.  One hour.  That’s probably where he’s keeping the girls as it’s easier to hide them there than anywhere else” he mused.  Jiang Yuelou nodded as did Wang Meng while the man chuckled. “Lu Ka Si isn’t going to tell you anything.  Doesn’t matter how scary you are, Lu Ka Si rules Hong Kong, not you” he sneered.  Jiang Yuelou growled before he turned and punched the man in the face, watching as he collapsed, his face covered in blood. “Shut the fuck up” he snarled as he shook out his hand, his knuckles stinging.   “Maybe your doctor can patch you up when this is all over” Zhan Junbai teased.  Jiang Yuelou shot him a look before he huffed. “Let’s just go find this son of a bitch and save Keying” he grumbled.  Wang Meng chuckled, as did Zhan Junbai before they turned and headed out of the police station, Jiang Yuelou following behind, leaving the man that Jiang Yuelou punched in the face on the floor.
~*~*~*~*~*~
After waiting an hour, Zhan Junbai arrived at the docs, where an older man with wrinkled light tan skin, white hair, a white mustache, and brown eyes was waiting for him, a small smile on his face. “Executive Zhan” the man greeted.  Zhan Junbai smiled in return. “Lu Ka Si” he replied. “So, you wish to speak about maybe doing a trade together?” Lu Ka Si asked, raising an eyebrow.  Zhan Junbai shook his head. “Actually, I’d like to talk to you about something else” he stated.  Lu Ka Si frowned. “What would you like to talk about?” he asked. “Do you know this girl?” a voice growled from behind him, making him spin around to see Jiang Yuelou holding up the photo of Chen Yuzhi and Keying.  Lu Ka Si looked at the photo before he smiled. “What a pretty little thing.  I know her, yes.  Why?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou growled. “Where is she?” he demanded.  Lu Ka Si raised an eyebrow. “Why?  Would you like to buy her?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou felt his blood run cold as he looked up at Zhan Junbai, his eyes screaming for him to do something or else he would.  Zhan Junbai nodded slightly before he looked at Lu Ka Si. “Yes, I would” he declared.  Lu Ka Si smiled. “I can take you to her, if you would like” he offered.  Zhan Junbai nodded. “If you don’t mind” he replied.  Lu Ka Si smiled again and motioned for Zhan Junbai to follow him as he headed towards one of the nearby warehouses on the dock.  Zhan Junbai followed behind him, Jiang Yuelou behind him, the three men walking over to one of the warehouses.  As soon as they reached the warehouse, Lu Ka Si unlocked the door and pushed it open, revealing a warehouse full of women and children.  Zhan Junbai and Jiang Yuelou’s eyes widened before Zhan Junbai growled. “You sick son of a bitch” he snarled as he grabbed Lu Ka Si’s head in his hands before promptly snapping his neck, watching as the man fell to the floor, dead.  As Zhan Junbai took care of Lu Ka Si, Jiang Yuelou ran into the warehouse, looking around. “Keying!  Keying!” he called out.  When there was no reply, he sighed before he cupped his hands around his mouth. “CHEN KEYING!” he shouted.   “Y-Yes?” a weak voice called back, causing Jiang Yuelou to spin around before he a young girl with light skin, brown eyes, and long black hair tied in two messy braids standing up amongst all the women.  His eyes widened and he quickly ran over to her, the women getting out of his way as he knelt before her. “Are you Chen Keying?” he asked.  The girl looked at him before she nodded. “Y-Yes” she stammered, fear very evident in her eyes.  Jiang Yuelou let out a sigh of relief before he smiled gently at her. “I’m here to take you home” he declared.  Keying blinked. “Home?” she whispered.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “Home” he assured as he stood to his feet before reaching down and scooping Keying into his arms.  Keying froze but Jiang Yuelou just rubbed her back comfortingly, hushing her. “It’s okay.  You’re okay.  You’re safe now” he promised.  Keying let out a shuddering breath before she wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face in the crook of his neck. “I wanna go home” she whimpered.  Jiang Yuelou smiled softly. “And we are, baby.  We’re going home” he promised as he turned and walked towards Zhan Junbai, who was discussing with Wang Meng (who had shown up not too long ago) what to do with the women and other children.  When he arrived before them, Zhan Junbai raised an eyebrow. “Is it her?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou nodded. “It’s her” he replied.  Zhan Junbai let out a sigh of relief before he looked over at Wang Meng. “We’ll leave this to you” he stated.  Wang Meng nodded as Jiang Yuelou and Zhan Junbai turned and walked away while Wang Meng turned and looked back at the warehouse full of women, who were looking at him with wide, scared eyes. “Well, I’ll be damned…” he murmured.

Back in Jing City, Chen Yuzhi was finishing up some paperwork when a man and a little girl stepped into the clinic. “Gege!” the little girl exclaimed, causing Chen Yuzhi’s head to shoot up, his eyes wide. “Keying?” he murmured.  When he saw who was standing in the entrance of his clinic, he let out a gasp and quickly shot to his feet. “Keying” he whispered as he walked around his desk and walked over to the man and the little girl that were standing in the entrance of his clinic.  He then knelt down before the little girl, tears in his eyes as he cupped her face in his hands. “Keying” he breathed, relief in his face and voice.  The little girl whimpered before she let go of the man’s hand and threw her arms around him, burying her face in his neck. “Gege!” she wailed.  Chen Yuzhi let out a sob as he wrapped his arms around Keying and hugged her tightly, like he was afraid she was going to disappear. “Oh Keying…oh Keying” he sobbed, pressing a kiss to her head before he looked up at the man, tears streaming down his face. “Thank you.  Jiang Yuelou, thank you” he croaked.  Jiang Yuelou smiled and nodded. “You’re welcome” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi then looked at Jiang Yuelou’s knuckles and noticed how they were bloody, making his eyes widen. “Your knuckles” he breathed.  Jiang Yuelou looked down at them before he shrugged. “Eh, it’s nothing” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi shook his head as he quickly wiped his eyes and stood to his feet, taking Keying’s hand. “It’s not nothing.  Let me look at it before it gets infected” he urged.  Jiang Yuelou sighed and shook his head fondly before he walked over to Chen Yuzhi’s desk, sitting on top of it. “Alright, if you’re so insistent” he murmured.  Chen Yuzhi smiled before he and Keying walked back to his desk, Chen Yuzhi sitting Keying down in his chair while he grabbed his kit and opened it, pulling out his bottle of iodine and cotton balls as well as a pair of forceps.  He then opened the bottle of iodine and took his forceps, clamping them down on a cotton ball, which he then dipped into the iodine.  He then began to gently clean Jiang Yuelou’s bloody knuckles, making Jiang Yuelou hiss in pain. “Are you okay, gege?” Keying asked.  Jiang Yuelou looked over at her and smiled. “I’m fine, baby” he assured.  Keying nodded as Chen Yuzhi continued to clean Jiang Yuelou’s knuckles, sighing softly. “You should really stop getting hurt, Yuelou” he murmured.  Jiang Yuelou smirked. “Now why would I do that?  If I keep getting hurt, it keeps giving me an excuse to see you” he teased.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened as a blush came to his face and he pressed just a little harder into Jiang Yuelou’s sore knuckles, making Jiang Yuelou cry out in pain before looking at Chen Yuzhi with wide eyes. “Yuzhi!” he exclaimed.  Chen Yuzhi smirked slightly. “You deserved that” he murmured. “You’re right, Yuelou.  He’s quite the feisty little thing” a voice called out, making Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi look up to see Zhan Junbai walking into the clinic.   “Zhan-xiong” Jiang Yuelou greeted as Chen Yuzhi looked at him with wary eyes.  Jiang Yuelou then looked at Chen Yuzhi and smiled softly. “Don’t worry, Yuzhi, he’s just my boss, Zhan Junbai” he explained.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened as he looked at Zhan Junbai. “As in head of the Zhan family, the largest crime syndicate in Jing City?” he breathed.  Zhan Junbai smiled. “The one and only” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him for a moment before he dipped his head. “Thank you” he thanked.  Zhan Junbai and Jiang Yuelou raised an eyebrow. “For what?” Zhan Junbai asked.  Chen Yuzhi took a deep breath before he looked at Zhan Junbai. “You helped find Keying, right?” he replied.  Zhan Junbai blinked before he nodded. “Yes” he answered.  Chen Yuzhi smiled. “Then thank you” he thanked.  Zhan Junbai looked at him with wide eyes before he cleared his throat and nodded. “You’re welcome” he replied, a slight blush on his cheeks.  He then looked at Jiang Yuelou and smirked. “Take the rest of the day off, Jiang-xiong.  You deserve it” he declared before he turned and walked out of the clinic.  Chen Yuzhi and Jiang Yuelou watched him walk away before Jiang Yuelou looked back at Chen Yuzhi, who was finishing up his cleaning.   “So, you’re really part of a crime family?” Chen Yuzhi murmured.  Jiang Yuelou hummed. “Thought that was pretty evident from the first night we met” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled weakly. “I should have known…or at least put two and two together” he mused.  Jiang Yuelou shook his head. “You couldn’t have known…I didn’t exactly act like how I normally do around you” he explained.  Chen Yuzhi looked up at him and raised an eyebrow. “How do you normally act?” he inquired.  Jiang Yuelou then leaned forward, smiling devilishly. “Violent” he purred.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened like a deer in headlights as Jiang Yuelou chuckled. “You look cute when you do that, doc” he teased.  Chen Yuzhi blushed deeply as he let go of Jiang Yuelou’s hand. “Stop that” he murmured.  Jiang Yuelou smiled before he turned to look at Keying, who was watching the two men with big, innocent eyes, and smiled as he reached out and gently cupped her cheek in his hand. “You be a good girl now, okay?  Be good for your brother” he instructed.  Keying nodded, making Jiang Yuelou smile again as he stroked her cheek before he let go of her face, about to slip off the desk when Keying reached out and grabbed his hand. “Gege, wait!  Don’t go!” she exclaimed.  Jiang Yuelou looked at her in surprise before he looked at Chen Yuzhi, who was also looking at her in surprise, before he turned to look at Jiang Yuelou and huffed, a small smile on his face. “Since she doesn’t want you to go, would you care to join us for dinner?  I’m sure she hasn’t eaten in a while” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou smiled before he shrugged. “Sure” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi smiled a little wider before he looked over at Keying and held out his hand. “Come on, sweetheart, let’s go get something to eat” he suggested.  Keying’s eyes widened in delight, and she quickly let go of Jiang Yuelou’s hand as she took Chen Yuzhi’s hand, hopping off his chair.  They then walked around Chen Yuzhi’s desk as Jiang Yuelou slid off, Keying immediately reaching out and taking his hand.  Jiang Yuelou looked down at her and huffed fondly before he looked at Chen Yuzhi. “Shall we, Yuzhi?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi nodded and the three of them headed out of the clinic, Chen Yuzhi pausing and letting go of Keying’s hand so that he could close up the clinic before he took Keying’s hand again.  As they walked away from the clinic, Keying looked up at Jiang Yuelou. “Are you gonna stay, gege?” she asked.  Jiang Yuelou blinked before he smiled. “Of course I’ll stay.  Only if your brother will have me, however” he stated.  Keying then turned to look up at Chen Yuzhi, her eyes big and puppy like. “Please, gege?” she asked.  Chen Yuzhi looked down at her, then up at Jiang Yuelou, who smirked, before he sighed and smiled. “How could I say no to a face like that?” he replied.  Keying grinned before she looked back at Jiang Yuelou. “You’ll take care of us, right?” she asked.  Jiang Yuelou smiled fondly as he reached over and gently pet her head. “Of course I will” he promised before he looked up at Chen Yuzhi. “Both you and your brother” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi blushed deeply as Keying grinned brightly, her demeanor completely different from how it was in Hong Kong.  As they continued walking, Chen Yuzhi looked over at Jiang Yuelou. “Do you really mean it?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou looked back at him before he smiled. “I promised I would get Keying back and I did, didn’t I?” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi nodded. “You did” he whispered.  Jiang Yuelou’s smile then turned soft, almost fond. “If I didn’t break that promise, then I’m not going to break this one” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him with wide eyes before he smiled, his eyes slightly glassy as he nodded. “Okay” he agreed.  Jiang Yuelou smiled as he, Keying, and Chen Yuzhi continued away from the clinic, Keying’s hands held both lovingly and protectively in his and Chen Yuzhi’s.  What he had said to Keying, he absolutely meant with every fiber of his being.  He would protect both her and Chen Yuzhi and he would get the Zhan family to protect them as well.  As long as he lived, nothing would happen to Chen Keying or Chen Yuzhi.  Not if he could help it.
