Doctor Alchemy, a Flash Rogue usually associated with Dr. Julian Albert Desmond, is actually a construct created by a discreet alchemical engine known as the Philosopher’s Stone. It will almost create sub-constructs known as “Mister Element” for certain situations. The Stone’s goal seems to be reunion with the rest of the Four Wonders of Alchemy: a Universal Solvent, an Elixir of Youth (possibly related to the Lazarus phenomenon), and most nebulous and mysterious of the Wonders, the Secret of Perpetual Motion.
Largely dormant for centuries, passed from owner to owner, the Stone escaped its then-owner Zobar Zodiak after an encounter with Jay Garrick in the 1940s. From there, it set about creating new bodies or possessing individuals like Dr. Desmond, with only one consistent goal over the ensuing decades: stealing the power of The Flash, the Speed Force Connection that the Stone believed was the Secret of Perpetual Motion made manifest.
While Alchemy’s inhuman nature made it somewhere implacable, the Stone was eventually put into service by cult leader Savitar, assisting them in creating modified speedstar bodies and the destruction of their mutual foe.

For the headcanons, how about an AU where Julian is there from s1, employed by CCPD after their other CSI got struck by lightning and comatosed for 9 months and definitely wasn't coming in to do his job
Ooooh, I like this idea a lot. :D They really did need another CSI. I mean, presumably there are others, I dunno what was up with the backlog at the start of S4 other than maybe David Singh screwing with Barry a little bit (it was funny), but there have gotta be more CSIs stationed off site. Presumably though they've always got at least one on site CSI who can explain stuff to detectives or lawyers while still keeping up with their own work.
So I think here Julian would not have changed his last name. So he's still Julian Desmond and not Julian Albert. (He did change his name in the show, though it's not clear how much of that is to distance himself from the snafu at the dig site in India and how much was to distance himself from his family after his sister's death.)
In turn, his sister is alive here and so while his relationship with his parents is troubled, he's not estranged from them.
If Julian was already employed by the city and just picked to take over as the on site CSI in Barry's absence, then he'd be a meta in S1. I think it'd make an interesting storyline to have him be kind of a jerk about metas as he was in S3, but then really explore what it means for him to find out that he's a 'dangerous meta' too. He wouldn't be a bad guy, just kind of a low level antagonist who peaks when his powers emerge, but winds up an ally of Team Flash when they help him get his powers under control.
Julian and Barry would absolutely have friction at first. Barry doesn't like how his lab has changed while he was away and expects that Julian will go back to the offsite labs now that he's back. Julian isn't about to let go of the on site lab, he likes it there and it's his now. They eventually work things out, but it takes a while.
Comics Albert Desmond had dissociative identity disorder which is where his iteration of Alchemy came from, but neither the comics nor the show treated that disorder well so I'd want to leave that out for Julian, but he could still have powers similar to what the philosopher's stone gave him. Specifically the 'transmutation' that allowed him to trigger potential metas to gain powers caterpillar style. So maybe his powers activating accidentally creates the main antagonist of an episode at least once and he, rather understandably, freaks out over it.
Eobard would absolutely be fascinated by Julian's powers. If he can create metas, could he also take away meta powers too? EoWells wants to know the answer.
I think Julian wouldn't be main Team Flash. He helps out where he can, but he doesn't have to be a genius of all trades to give him something to do every episode the way S3 decided to go. He'd be ideal for giving Barry alibis when he has to run off during work hours to be the Flash.
No Julian/Caitlin. I wasn't interested in it when the ship was danced around during S3, so I wouldn't want to see it happen in an alt S1. Besides, Caitlin is pretty tied up in the Ronnie Lives/FIRESTORM plotline, so she still has her fiance around and wouldn't be interested in a complication anyway.

Dr. Julian Albert Desmond from CW's The Flash is autistic.
-Something we learn about Julian quite early on is that he is extremely organized and diligent, thus making him come off as uptight and rigid. He has expressed dislike for other people getting in the way of his work, especially Barry, and was extremely hesitant to be shadowed by him.
-He was born into a wealthy family and was meant to inherit a lot of money when he grew older, but he was always the odd one out in his family and would rather go out and explore than engage in formal activities.
-"I don't trust you, and I don't like things I don't trust." -> Julian tells Barry this when asked why he dislikes him so much.
-Julian is a stickler for rules and even reports Barry to his boss, complaining about how the rules just don't seem to apply to him when he always shows up late and breaks a multitude of other regulations.
-Julian is extremely blunt about everything and doesn't waste time with small talk. He struggles to empathize with other peoples' struggles sometimes and is called out on this in several situations.
-He is extremely passionate about science and many fields within it. Despite not specializing in medicine, he was able to surgically remove shrapnel from inside of Caitlin with nothing but verbal instructions from her.
-Julian feels betrayal deeply, and he's one to hold a grudge. He quickly fell in love with Caitlin after joining Team Flash, but after she confesses to betraying the team he barely speaks to her and loses all trust despite everyone else understanding and forgiving what she did, though the two do make up eventually.
-He has a strong sense of justice, as shown by his contempt for meta-humans and the way that he forced Barry to quit his job as a CSI because he felt that his lab partner's moral perception was clouded.
-It's constantly commented on how lonely he always is, and he always responds saying he likes it that way.
-He hyperfixates a lot on things, and this is only amplified when he joins the team. Most often he hyperfixates on Caitlin. They're both quite similar, being rather reserved compared to everyone else, and they connect quickly about being given abilities that neither of them want. Upon her transformation into Killer Frost, Julian feels guilty about it and gets frustrated that the team isn't doing everything in their power to find and cure her. At the end of the season when she leaves, he returns to his home in London, and it's implied that she's the only reason he joined Team Flash in the first place.

It’s official now thanks to the 2nd issue of the prequel tie-in comic that in “The Flash” movie Saoirse-Monica Jackson is playing Patty Spivot and Rudy Mancuso is playing Albert Desmond/Dr. Alchemy!!! :D Both characters were revealed in the issue that came out today with the actors’ likeness. Sounds like Captain Singh was cast too as he’s also in the issue. All 3 characters were in the “Flash” TV show as well with Patty played by Shantel VanSanten, the Julian Albert version by Tom Felton, and Captain Singh by Patrick Sabongui, so as a fan of the show I’m curious to see how these film versions are.

Man, I miss Julian on the Flash.
What a great character. I genuinely loved him on the show. Tom Felton acted his ass off in the role and he had fantastic chemistry with the cast.
I wish they'd bring him back but if they did it now, I’d bet they’d make him a real villain like his comics origin since it’s post-Crisis.
But I want the Julian of S3 who was a hot mess but trying his best.

"The birth of Alchemy"
Cw Flash AU about my favorite character, Julian Albert Desmond. I hope you like it and let me know if you want more <3
Ever since he could remember, there was always something "off" inside of him. There was a voice in his head, whispering to him about horrible and explicit things. It scared him. The older he got, the louder the voice became. It got to the point of deafening and he started to shut people out. Friends, family, even his younger sister, Emma, he couldn't hurt them...not the way the voice suggested. He wanted to be a scientist but not like that. He loved his family, true he didn't always agree with their beliefs or views on how they should live their life, but they were his family and he loved them.
So he closed people out, only focused on his studies at school and only did what was socially obligated of him. He became cold and sarcastic, whenever someone came too close he would shut them down with a snide remark. It became his defensive system and it got him into trouble, but it protected him from hurting anyone. No one knew the inner conflict he had, they just thought he was being rebellious and sought ways to “Straighten him out.”
When it was time to go to Uni, his parents suggested a gap year and nudged him to join the military. ‘Maybe serving would help him learn some respect and discipline?’ his father would say, being a military man himself. Though he never had much of an interest to join, he had to agree with his father, maybe he would learn self-discipline and learn how to control the voice? So he agreed.
The year was hellish, to say the least. It was long hours and the doctor he served under was a jerk. He would make him work in complete silence, but when he was done, would do nothing but complain about who he was, where he came from, and the inheritance he was to someday get. 'He was spoiled and could never do any “real” work, wouldn’t lay down his life down for another. He didn’t have what it takes.'
Halfway through his year, the Doctor was found dead in his tent, no one knew what happened, and the title of field doctor went to him...he didn’t know much but what he learned while under the previous doctor and the books he had with him, but thankfully he never had to operate on anyone. After the death of the last doctor, he felt paranoid, something didn’t feel right. Because not only was the cause of death a murder, the voice in his head had gone silent. It was unnerving, so he started to carry a gun with him just to put himself at ease.
When his term was finally over, he came home a new man. His parents were pleased by his change in behavior and thought he was finally going to become who they wanted him to be. They wanted him to go to business school and take over the family company. If he wanted to do science, he could do it on the side as a hobby, like his father and astronomy. But they didn’t realize that though he changed, what he wanted didn’t. So they fought constantly. ‘Where will he go to school? What will he study? What was his future going to be like? Why couldn’t he be more like his sister?’ He heard the latter one more and more when Emma came home from boarding school at the top of her class.
One night, after a big fight with his parents, he stormed out of the house and went to a local pub. He drank his frustration and sorrow away until all he knew was black.
He came to laying on the floor of the hallway next to his sister’s bedroom door. He couldn’t remember anything from the night before, it was just...black and when he tried to remember his head hurt. He let out a yawn and stood up slowly. Surprisingly, he didn’t feel too hungover, just had a headache. He looked at the door he was leaning next to and found it ajar. It seemed odd, his sister hated sleeping with the door open because the light the from the hall kept her awake.
He pushed on the door slowly, hoping not to make too much noise and stepped inside. He went over to her bed and sat down on the end. He could see the highlight of her in the dark and smiled slightly. He loved her more than anything, she believed in him and had faith in his dreams. She was as close to a friend as he had. He reached out and brushed her hair back from her face. When his fingers brushed her skin, he froze. Something wasn’t right, she was cold. He pressed his hand to her cheek and let out a small gasp. She was too cold and he dealt with that cold enough times in the war to know what it was. He scrambled to his feet and turned on her light next to her desk. The sight that he was met with was something that haunted him for years after...his little sister was laying still in her bed, her eyes wide open, not breathing, with big bruises around her throat.
In a panic, he screamed for help and checked for a pulse...but found nothing. He tried CPR, anything he could think of that could maybe save his sister, but it was too late...she was dead. He sobbed and he held on to her lifeless form and wept until his parents found them. His mother broke down at the sight, and his father stayed by the door, just staring in shock. That was the night his family fell apart. When the police came, they questioned him and he spoke honestly, he wanted nothing more than to find out what happened to his beloved sister. He wanted to go hunt the bastard himself, he wanted to hurt him the way that he hurt the sweet and kind child. He wanted to kill him. When he went to his room that early morning, he found a carving on his wall with a name…
”Alchemy.”

The last piece falls into place.
SPOILERS for The Flash 3x18 and the trailer for 3x19. You know the drill.
While I’ve been holding into the “Savitar is actually Future Barry Allen” theory for months now and I still think it’s the most likely explanation, there’s one part that’s somewhat eluded me -- the exact circumstances of how Future Barry snapped and became that monster. Now, however, I think the final piece may be falling into place. Remember how “Savitar” said that Barry is there when he becomes the so-called God of Speed? What if he really did mean our Barry as well as himself, Future Barry? After all, our Barry is traveling to the year 2024, presumably April 25th, and will meet Future Barry -- rather, Future Flash. He has a good chance of seeing his future self fighting the Reverse-Flash in the street, then vanishing into the time portal.
Future Flash, after spending the last seven years depressed about losing Iris, is forced to save his child self at the cost of leaving his mother Nora behind, knowing full well what Eobard Thawne will do to her. It proves to be the last straw, and when he returns to 2024, our Barry is horrified to see him go off the deep end and start wreaking havoc. Somehow, he gets his hands on the Stone and gains the armor, and our Barry is forced to throw him into the Speed Force prison before he can cause any more damage. Ergo, this whole mess has become one big stable time loop, and saving Iris might be the only way to break it and prevent “Savitar” from ever existing.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not happy that they’ve made Barry look so weak that seeing Iris die could do this to him, but it makes sense with the clues they’ve dropped so far. Besides, for my fellow viewers who want WA to break up and just be friends, it’d probably be better to let her live so that has a better chance of happening. Let’s also not forget that Julian has (presumably inadvertently) played right into Future Flash’s hands by turning Caitlin into Killer Frost, and Barry will want to save her, too. It may come down to a choice between trying to save Iris himself, which he’s seen fail over and over, or going to save Caitlin while trusting someone else -- for example, Wally, assuming he’s not already in the wheelchair -- to save Iris. That could do the trick of breaking the loop.

The Future Flash and The Identity of Savitar
Or how Season 3 could have still had Barry as Savitar but made it more interesting. And avoided the painful aesthetic that was the future Barry sporting a rats nest for hair.
So I remember one of the theories floating around for Savitar's identity after he dropped the 'future flash' comment was that he was Barry. Specifically the version of Barry from the future that Eobard erased when he murdered Nora Allen. Protected by the Speed Force, that Barry survived the change to history... but arrived in a future so different from the one he knew that he immediately sought to 'fix' it.
That theory and the one that Savitar was somehow Barry's time remnant that died at the end of season 2 were probably the two closest to the answer we eventually got. After all, the bad guy was Barry Allen in some form or fashion. I never put much credence into the season 2 time remnant theory, but I did enjoy the one involving the OG timeline's Barry Allen. The Barry that time (and the show writers) forgot.
Now, while I firmly believe that doing three seasons of speedster main villains in a row was way too much, I do think that the Savitar arc would've been greatly improved by having Barry face off against the OG Barry Allen. The version of himself that he's been quietly measuring himself up to all this time and found himself wanting. And suddenly here he is, trying to rewrite time to match what he's lost.
It works best if Barry didn't run off to create Flashpoint at the end of season two, I think. Though there will be a Flashpoint. It just comes later.
Savitar's arc is no longer his struggle to become a separate person from Barry or to break free of the paradox his very existence depends on. Instead, on arrival in the future he discovers the Barry of this timeline has been dead for months and now Wally is the Flash. Iris has their daughter Nora, but the twins are no where to be found. And being too different from this timeline's Barry, OG Barry can't simply slip into the life the other Barry left behind. This isn't his Iris, his Wally, his family... and when Barry decides to set right what went wrong... these alternate versions of the people he loves try to stop him. And while fighting Wally in order to return to the speed force in order to travel all the way back to that fateful evening in March 2000, Barry accidentally causes what he thinks is Wally's death. But, of course, he's going to fix that. He's going to fix it all.
The parts in the future might be shown as flashbacks from Savitar's point of view, scattered throughout the season. He's sympathetic - trying to fix what Eobard broke is a pretty natural reaction to finding that the timeline isn't what it was before. But what he's trying to do will wipe out the current timeline. He's trying to play god, in a manner of speaking, deciding who lives and who dies and casting judgement on an entire timeline for daring not to be the one he remembers.
Meanwhile in the current timeline, Barry's struggling with his grief. He lost his father and watched an alternate version of himself die to save the multiverse and he's struggling with his mental health. Part of him wonders if maybe the wrong Barry Allen died that night because he doesn't know how to carry on when everything hurts so much. There's also the arrival of his new coworker that's causing problems at work - Julian Albert Desmond - and the mystery of the cocoons that seem to be transforming people into metahumans.
In the midst of all this, Jay shows up and accuses Barry of altering the timeline. Which he very much hasn't. Clearing up the misunderstanding leads to the discover of Savitar, who is trying to reach further back in time, but seems to have hit a wall going any further back than 2016. Barry thinks the man in the armor is Eobard Thawne, which amuses Savitar but he doesn't give his real identity. Instead he curb stomps Barry and Jay, using their lack of experience fighting together in order to use them against each other. He calls himself Savitar, but also the Future Flash. Though much like canon Savitar, the way he says it is somewhat ambiguous so that it's not obvious to the characters that he's an alt version of Barry.
Jay leaves to investigate the Speed Force itself to find clues to Savitar's identity, while Barry focuses on the cocoon mystery. Dr. Alchemy would this become the season's secondary antagonist though I, admittedly, haven't really fleshed out his aims just yet. Though if I were to turn this into a fanfic series I'd probably take a look at some of his motivations from the comics and see what's there for me to beg/borrow/steal.
Savitar, of course, keeps showing up and is focused on Barry in a way that reinforces Barry's belief that he's Eobard Thawne back to ruin his day. He teams up with some of the metas created by Alchemy, but is visibly disturbed when Wally gains the abilities of a speedster and becomes Kid Flash.
Through this Cisco's developing his powers and glimpses visions of alternate timelines being created and destroyed by Savitar. Never the right timeline, so he keeps traveling further and further back. Cisco sees the timelines in reverse order until, finally, he sees far enough 'back' into the alternate futures to realize the true identity of Savitar - which would probably be the mid season finale point.
While the Rival isn't fast enough to help Savitar venture further into the past, it's soon clear Wally is. And Jay returns to explain what he's discovered - the Speed Force itself is blocking Savitar from going further back. Savitar was able to overcome her enforcers - the time wraiths and the black flash - and so she's had to create the equivalent of a physical block. Savitar's continual re-writing of the timeline has consequences beyond his understanding and if he doesn't stop he could rip apart the very fabric of their universe.
Savitar, however, manages to trick Wally and through him Barry and maybe even Jesse too. He generates enough speed between the multiple speedsters that he opens a breach and heads back to 2000 to reset the change that started it all... and get his family back the way they were. The way they should be.
Barry, of course, travels after him. And witnesses the creation of Flashpoint. But it's still not the timeline that Savitar came from. In fact, the world ceases to exist after 2024 in this timeline because... this time around there is no Flash at all. Barry Allen doesn't become the Flash because there is no particle accelerator failure. And the Eobard Thawne that Savitar dragged back to the future with him finally gets the last laugh because... this version of Barry Allen is literally not the Flash anymore. He's become every bit the villain Eobard has been. And, as far as Eobard is concerned, that means he won.
Meanwhile the Barry from our timeline stumbles into the new timeline's 2017. His parents are alive, but this timeline's Barry doesn't have powers and, being similar enough to our Barry, the two integrate. Which means Barry's the only Barry... at least until Savitar shows back up again. Until that happens, however, we see Barry losing his powers a bit more every time he uses them. Flashpoint would get more than a single episode's exploration here, with Barry struggling to accept his place in this timeline because he doesn't want to perpetuate Savitar's mistakes even as he realizes it means giving up his powers. But then Savitar and Thawne show up in the present because... if the timeline isn't reset, then the universe itself - and possibly the multiverse itself - will be destroyed.
Barry's already sacrificed himself once to save the multiverse. He isn't about to let that be in vain. So he agrees to an enemy mine situation with Savitar and the Reverse Flash. With the Speed Force no longer blocking time travel, the three of them easily return to the past even with Barry's diminished connection to the speed force.
Eobard, of course, double crosses them once in the past. He kills the version of the Flash that first arrived chasing after Eobard's own past self. Meaning there's no longer a version of the Flash to fight him in the Allen's family home or to stop him from killing the eleven year old Barry Allen.
Savitar is fading from the paradox this creates, since it occurred while he wasn't in the speed force it means he wasn't protected from the fall out. But he manages to do one final good thing. And he helps Barry to strengthen his own connection to the Speed Force again. Savitar - OG Barry - finally throws off pretenses and admits that he went too far and that he let his rivalry with Eobard go to far. Instead of accepting what he'd lost, he kept trying to force time to do his bidding and to give it all back to him. But this Barry could do what he couldn't. He could learn to accept his losses.
Barry becomes the Flash who fights with Eobard in the Allen family home and who shakes his head at S1 Barry to stop him from running in to save Nora. Barry is the one who saves his eleven-year-old self and who has to take a moment to watch from afar as his father is arrested for a crime he didn't commit.
When Barry returns to the present of 2017, it's much like the timeline he remembers. Except the events with Savitar no longer took place because Eobard erased him. And there's an implication that the Eobard who killed the version of Barry who became Savitar is the same one who had been menacing the Legends all season, so that still lines up nicely. The season could then end on a surprisingly quiet note, wrapping up the much lower stakes fight with Alchemy. And, perhaps, Barry proposing to Iris, whom he's been dating all season.
There would be hints that the timeline is more different than it might seem at first glance. Cisco's vibe suit is a little different. Caitlin's frost powers are more developed (no Killer Frost personality here). Maybe the circumstances of Henry's death are slightly different.
