You have just think about this scene? But like really think about it?

It does such a good job at showing their relationship.

Julie goes into this scene to apologize for overstepping with his mom but then Luke tells her that he doesn’t mind it. Another thing they have in common with each other besides music is their mom’s. They both know what it’s like to lose that. “Both draw from the same pain.” To quote Julie. It’s such a tender moment between them when Julie smiles when she says “You always make me feel closer to my mom, wanted to do the same in return.”

It shows their common link and how much they do have in common. How they’re a pillow for each other for that pain in their life. How they can bond to each other with that pain they have.

When they reach for each other’s hand, Luke reached first, reaching for her hand to let her know that he minds not all that she ‘overstepped’. She had her hands together, possibly as a “closed off position” to show that she felt bad for overstepping but then goes to reach for his hand. She reaches because she realizes that if he’s reaching out, she’s going to take it. Almost as if to say “if he’s reaching first then that means he’s okay with the overstepping”. But then,

Her hand falls through his.

A painful reminder of the reality of what they are. A human and a ghost. A forbidden love.

Julie turns away, like saying ‘righttttt.’ Meanwhile Luke rolls his eyes and points out what they are, “This is an interesting little relationship you and I have.” And the looks they exchange,

Accepting what they are but that doesn’t mean they still can’t have “an interesting little relationship.” It’s the acknowledgment that they know, they are aware that this shouldn’t be a thing with them but it’s not stopping them.

Then when Julie tells him how they’re trending on YouTube. It’s another reminder,

He shrugs, she just said something that he has no idea what she means. Another reminder that they’re both from different times. Different decades. But Julie clarifying “That’s a good thing.” And saying that they’re bound to get calls from agents now. She’s hopeful for the future. Their (granted the band’s but it ruins my point just go with it) future.

That even though, they’re different. That even though, they’re from completely different times. That even though, they shouldn’t work, it will work.

They will work.

I feel like the idea of Perfect Harmony actually happening and not just being a daydream sequence was tossed around and maybe played with, observe the choreography:

The hands in the pockets, if it was just once then I’d be like “ok it’s just Charlie” however, observing the Perfect Harmony behind the scene clips it’s like every time it’s the end of Perfect Harmony, it happens which means it’s not a mistake, it’s a choice. A choreography choice to do.

Observe more with the actual filming of Perfect Harmony:

It’s just such an interesting choice to have him walk off with his hands in his pockets.

Maybe they were experimenting with the idea of Perfect Harmony actually happening. Like you see Luke walk off with his hands in his pockets like that and then it cuts to Luke like fixing his hair like this subtle implication that leaves you like “…wait a second 👁👄👁 …did that actually happen?”
