Drabble bc of the new jjk leaks, block all necessary tags if you don't want spoilers

Gojo loves you.

He's never truly admitted it but he wishes that's the only thing he was allowed to do; love you and love you and make his loving be known. And now….now he can do just that.

Your name is the only thing he has ever said softly, the only secret he has ever whispered into the cool air of dawn, more for himself than you.

You hear it anyway, and stir awake.

"Satoru…?"

"I'm here." He's not selfless enough to tell you to go back to sleep, he pulls back your covers and slips in, curling around you like a parenthesis.

"Its late…"

"Yeah, sorry I took so long." The heat of you seeps into him, delicious and slow.

"I just got here."

"Always working, you," and you drag him in for a kiss.

Gojo has read a lot of poetry– for his studies of course but also because of you. He thinks he dreamt of you in a dream; sweet and honeyed and smooth. You melt into him and sigh when you pull back, content.

"Do you have any work today?"

"No, I don't have to work for a while now. We can sleep in for as long as we want."

"What about your coworkers?"

"I'm sure they won't mind," he grins cheekily.

"And what about your kids, Gojo Satoru? Won't they miss you?" His kids. His kids. Already so far away, the bridge between them spreads wide, and even Gojo Satoru's eyes don't see well enough into the fog, or future.

If they are his kids, then they'll be fine. And if not, he'll see the rest of them soon, where blue summers never end and the sunlight dapples your skin the softest of golds.

"Yeah, they will. But you missed me more, didn't you?" How long has it been? How long has it been since he last saw your face, the downward tug of your mouth, every individual lash of your eyes, grown darker by the tears that glisten there? Your hands wrap around him, nails digging into his nape to keep him there, and the tears start to fall.

"What took you so long, Satoru?" And you're selfish too, to wait and hold him here, but he indulges you, as he always has. Maybe that's why you're like this, maybe he rubbed off on you. You didn't wait for him to live out a meaningful life and then come back to you as a memory--you were waiting for him to join you already.

"Sorry," he breathes a laugh. It hitches at the end.

"Our flight got delayed."

"That's not an excuse…!"

"Sorry. Sorry!" The only God he'd apologize to, the only altar he'd want to prostrate himself to is yours. He kisses you, again, and shudders into your mouth, the taste of you all at once familiar and foreign and absolving. You trace the knobs of his spine through his clothes, thumb at the goosebumps that rise on his neck.

"I'm going to make it up to you. However long it takes.

"We've got time now."

"I missed you Satoru. So much…"

"Yeah….I missed you too. I'm here now."

desperately trying to ignore the way Nanami looked like he was going to cry while he beat the shit out of Haruta. He was furious, yes, but he was also fresh off a serious trigger for his ptsd with Haibara, and he sees Nobara get hit and fall.
