The Church

The Blissful Jesters Church was started in the East, but after the Teal Wars caused conflict and unneeded chaos, it migrated to the West and continued to thrive to this day. Their founder, Father Akiiki Laivah, wanted a church that had strong morals and help unify the Purple community. Purples were losing their faith and sense of familial bonds with each other, mostly caused by the Empire's influence, so his church heavily focus on that. His church is like the classic circus, bringing joy back to the churches, from grand performances to selling delicious hand-made treats. They also aid Purplebloods who lost their lusus, sometimes the lusus abandon their charges too soon, maybe the lusus died, or the lusus was stolen and sold in the black market. With the help of Jadebloods, they help match Purplebloods with new lusii or reunited them with their own. Zurido was like the face of the church which inspired the motto of the church.

"Pass the dark clouds of adversity and hate, through the rain of sorrowful tears, there lies the light that is hidden in us all. Let your light shine, and may the sorrow turn into strength."

The Trolls

Each troll has a special connection to Zurido, as she helped all of them find their way to the church and start anew, so each of them has a special place in her heart and vice versa. She even plans to introduce each of her quads to her church. (Zurido and Dismal's bios are already up) Introduction Time!~

Akiiki Laivah | He/Him| 9'0ft | 2004 sweeps | Cosmic Purple #681993

The founder of the church, Father Akiiki has seen firsthand how easily the Empire has caused a caste to turn on its own, he saw how the Teal Wars have caused a divide in the Teal caste. Not wanting that for his Purple brothers and sisters, he started his church in the west with his first Red, where they thrived for a few 100 sweeps. Even though the church was heavily looked down upon and scrutinized by others, he continued his life mission with pride. But there were moments of weakness, they fell into a bad spot until a little Purple gave them hope. A young Zurido saw the old trolls crying and offered a cookie to cheer them up, she was not affiliated with any church at the time, and her face was bare of any paint. Zurido's kind gesture brought Akiiki back to his senses. After talking to Zurido, and finding out she was hiveless, they let her stay at the church. She soon joined the church and helped the elderly couple find new recruits.

Chucklevoodoo: Can convert negative energy into energy for himself and others and vice versa, this is amplified with the help of the Juju that was passed down to him, The Book of Horrors and Bliss.

Alikah Aredah | She/Her| 7'3ft | 900 sweeps | Dark Lavender #774B92 (Cusp Variant)

Being a Cuspblood in the Clown Church was hard for Alikah, she was kicked out of many churches due to her mutation, which crushed her spirits. Being a Purple and Violet cusp was seen as a sin against the Messiahs, but she still saw herself as Purple, but others beg to differ. She was alone, no church would accept her, and she was lost without a purpose. Time passed, and she found some peace in the West, living her life in the bustling city. But, she still struggled with that childhood yearning, she wanted to be part of the community she adored. After the death of his Red, Akiiki fell into a deep depression, and Zurido tried everything to help cheer him up. As a last resort, they went for a stroll in the park to take his mind off the ordeal, there they witness Alikah on the park bench. She was singing an old clown gospel as she fed the pigeons, Akiiki was awestruck, only a few Purples know that old song. Her singing reminded him of his first Red, Zurido went into action and walked up to Alikah, complimenting her singing. Zurido, the little wingman, hyped up Father Akiiki. After many visits to the park, Alikah grew to like Father Akiiki and his church's mission, she was envious though cause she could not be part of something as grand. After a sweep, he offered a place for Alikah in his church, this took her by surprise. She cautions him to think this over, cause of her mutation, she might cause trouble for his church. But the old preacher brushes all that off.

Eventually, Alikah joins the church and married Akiiki, becoming his second Red.

Chucklevoodoo: Though her voodoo is weakened due to her violet side, she can still hold her own, with or without. The most she can do with her voodoo is make barriers.

Aadish Sureal | He/Him | 8'0ft | 300 sweeps | Eminence #6C3082

Aadish was a once-wanted fugitive for crimes such as bank robbery, mass murder (in the South and East), high treason, and sedition, which he managed to escape prosecution with the help of his Chucklevoodoo. His reason for his past crimes is still unknown, but some expect that he was a former rebel. But he denounces that theory every time. Whatever the reason, he wanted to start over with a clean record, so when he moved to the West to live in the Highblood area. He opened a little shop to sell his very popular, but controversial artworks until the Empress gave the order to shut it down. He was furious but decided to let it slide, he started taking commissions instead, which got the okay from the Empress herself. Soon, he was visited by Zurido, who was in awe of his works. He offered to draw the young Purple anything she wish for free. Zurido, being the sweetheart, asked for a painting of Father Akiiki's first and current Red by his side. Aadish accepted. He helped Zurido to deliver it to the church, where they presented it to Father Akiiki and Alikah, it brought them into tears of joy. They thanked him and offered dinner as thanks, which lead to the start of a wonderful friendship. He eventually joins the church and helped repaint both the interior and exterior of the entire church.

Chucklevoodoo: His chucklevoodoo is only to be used in emergencies, analyzing newcomers, or for performances. It has a semi-ban outside of that due to his dangerous ability. His voodoo controls the five senses of a target after gazing into his eyes, leaving them in a hypnotic state of mind. Manipulating their minds at his will and even distorting memories. He can also read deeply into others' minds but tries not to do that, as it can cause some major drainage of his energy to the point that he may fall into a week-long coma. He sometimes uses his voodoo to help trolls overcome their fears or give them some sort of peace of mind through his hypnosis.

Bombay & Baakoh Meideh | She/Her | 7'2ft (Bombay) & 3'8ft (Baakoh) | 204 Sweeps (Bombay) & 3 Sweeps (Baakoh) | Maximum Purple #733380 (Bombay) & Purpureus #9A4EAE (Baakoh)

Bombay was always a very cautious troll, especially after having her grub, Baakoh. When Baakoh grew old enough to discover her chucklevoodoo, Bombay knew that her ability would get unwanted attention, so they were always on the move. They had a lot of close calls, but they always managed and they were always together. During their travels, she befriended a shunned Jade, Meddin. Bombay offered to let her join her on their travels, which she accepts and took the role of nanny for Baakoh. After one bad incident, they decide to travel to the West for safety. On their way to the West, the omniscuttlecoach they road was attacked and forced Bombay to use her voodoo, leaving her exhausted. Meddin tried carrying Bombay to safety but was also tired from all the running, in an alleyway, they both were laid out while Baakoh cried her eyes out. Zurido, who was returning from a grocery run with Aadish, heard the cries and informed Aadish. he went to investigate and came back carrying an unconscious Bombay. He told Zurido to get back up, and with the help of Father Akiiki, they took both Meddin and Bombay to the church to recuperate. When Bombay woke from a month-long rest, Father Akiiki offer Bombay a place to stay, she was hesitant but Aadish's charisma was a NAT 20. He convinced her to stay. And with Aadish's constant flirtations, she eventually became his Red.

Chucklevoodoo (Bombay): Bombay's voodoo allows her to release her pent-up anger in violent explosions. If she is enraged, the wicks in her afro buffs will ignite, which gives the target only a few minutes before they meet their maker. When the wicks vanish, her hair ignites into big balls of purple flames, which causes her speed and attack power to increase exponentially. Trolls in the church try not to let her go this far as it is a higher chance of her literally exploding! The only clowns that know how to calm her are Aadish and Baakoh. A few compliments and squirts from a water gun is enough. In her acts, she uses her voodoo to set off sparklers or fireworks.

Chucklevoodoo (Baakoh): Baakoh voodoo makes anything she draws real! Anything of her wildest dreams will come into existence with the simple crayon stroke. From dead loved ones to extinct animals, all she has to do is draw them and they are back. But, she is not allowed to use her voodoo outside, or else the Empire will take her away and use her voodoo for selfish gains.

Tigrah Byakko & Seuxda Cedron | She/Her (Tigrah) & He/They (Seuxda) | 6'3ft (Tigrah) & 6'6ft (Seuxda) | 12 sweeps (Tigrah) & 14 sweeps | Chinese Purple #720B98 (Tigrah) & Kokimurasaki #3A243B (Seuxda)

AKA The Dynamo Pussycats, this duo was always up to mischief in the church but is loved (and envied) by all. Tigrah is from the East, while Seuxda is from the South, they both lost their lusus and searched far and wide for their respected lusii. Both ended up in the West, where they met at a purrbeast cafe and became friends, they teamed up to search for their lusii. Each met Zurido on separate occasions. Tigrah met Zurido at the market while posting flyers, Zurido saw the flyer, but due to the flyer being badly made...she thought the flyer was about a panther lusii...not a tiger. Then Zurido met Seuxda at a park, again posting a badly made flyer, and got confused again. Each time, Zurido said that they saw the lusii and told them to come by the church, which they did. When they got there, Zurido gave each of them the other lusus, and they both looked at Zurido and laughed. The confusion was funny as hell to them. The tiger pounced on Tigrah and the panther pounced on Seuxda, it was their lusii though, Zurido was happy to help either way. After befriending Zurido, they wanted to stay at the church, cause... let's be honest...they kinda liked the West. This was the place they fell pale for each other and found their lusii. So...WHY NOT!?

Chucklevoodoo (Tigrah): Tigrah's voodoo allows her to camouflage herself and weapons in any surroundings, making it easy for her to sneak attack her targets. In her routines, she likes to play hide and seek with the young clowns, sneaking up on them and "attacking" with tickles.

Chucklevoodoo (Seuxda): Seuxda's voodoo allows him to manipulate shadows and make them into physical weapons or tools. Her specialty is doing shadow puppet shows for the young trolls.

(Fun Fact: Zurido's leggings were hand-me-downs from Tigrah and she started wearing a ponytail cause of Seuxda.)

Fresco Inizio | He/Him | 12'0ft | 1002 sweeps | Dark Lavender #774B92

After the death of his Red and grub, Fresco fell into a life of self-destruction and sorrow, he became heavily addicted to drugs. He was a shell of his former self, he saw nothing worth the time or effort, just a bleak future without his kin. He eventually became hiveless, after wasting all his money to fuel his addiction, and resigned in an alleyway right by the church. Zurido spotted him and continue to pester him, which he would constantly brush her off, but Zurido continued to visit him. She would bring him food, spare clothes, and sometimes a blanket or two. He was confused at her generosity, but Zurido was a good kid, she manage to put a crack in his walls. She would chat with him every night after clown church and he would listen. Eventually, during church, he would walk through those doors and ask to join. He now works as security for the church. He is currently 3 sweeps sober.

Chucklevoodoo: Like Zurido, Fresco's emotion manipulates his dreads, but he can manually control his dreadlocks with his chucklevoodoo. This makes him the master of multitasking, he could be cooking in one room, vacuuming in the other, and reorganizing a bookshelf in the other. In a battle, his dreads can whip, tie up, and deflect attacks. During his acts, he likes to pass out balloon lusii to younglings.

(Fun Fact: Fresco taught Zurido his signature move, "Hair Whip". Also, he was an adopt gifted to me)

Hyppoh Potmus | She/Her | 13'0ft | 1008 sweeps | Rebecca Purple #663399

Asaego's FAVORITE artist in the WHOLE WORLD!! THE TROLL BEYONCE OF ALTERNIA!! Former Gospel/Pop Singer, Hyppoh "Madam Mohtah" Potmus, was a troll with a fulfilling life. She spent most of her time traveling on tour until she retired, she travel back to the West to settle down, but she managed to get herself in hot waters. Her old hive was ransacked by fans and haters alike, everything she held dear was gone, and worst...her lusus was gone!! In a panic, she rampages through the city, sobbing her eyes out and running over the poor trolls that stood in her path. When she finally calmed down, she made flyers and tv ads about her lusus and even went as far as offering a cash reward. As she was roaming the streets, her ears perked up at a familiar song of the past, and she couldn't help but sing along. Her singing attracted trolls around, including Zurido who was riding on the back of a Hippo, HYPPOH'S LUSUS!! The lusus was a victim of an attempted lusii-napping, but they forgot how strong hippos are, Zurido manage to calm the beast and befriended her. Hyppoh's singing help lure her lusus back to her. Eventually, Hyppoh was asked to come over for dinner at the church, she agreed and performed a mini concert for the church. She decided to stay at the church, working as the Choirmistress for the choir they had.

Chucklevoodoo: Hyppoh's chucklevoodoo helps control the powerful soundwaves that she releases when singing, perfect for both offense and defense purposes, and is really handy when it comes to singing in large concert halls. The downside to this is this sometimes causes her to lose her voice for a while, sometimes up to a week at most.

Kahpur Rahjah | She/Her | 11'0ft | 936 sweeps | Plump Purple #5946B2

Kahpur was a former Imperial nurse in the Southeast of Alternia, she was a long-time rival with Reilla Yawkyl in the past, until she was promoted and had to transfer to the North. She eventually retired and moved to the West to find work. She ran into Zurido, who was suffering from a bad allergic reaction to eggs found in her food, she gave Zurido a full look over at her hive. She gave Zurido a cold compress and oral antihistamine to help the poor Purple. She was soon offered a job at the church as a nurse.

Chucklevoodoo: Kahpur's voodoo can cause her skin to harden like steel, which is perfect for protecting not only herself but others around. She can also bend any metal that is nearby and turn it into weapons of her choice.

(Fun Fact: Kahpur's design and name are based on the Pokemon, Copperajah)

Ahqwah Gavala | She/They | 10'5ft | 804 sweeps | Grape #6F2DA8

After losing her leg in a bad wipeout on her water skis, Ahqwah continued to enjoy her love for the water and the water-related activities she partakes in. She visits the Alternian beaches daily and always gets stares for Seadwellers and fellow Purples alike, but is so unfazed by it, always lost in her own thoughts. One night, Alternia was hit with a vicious storm, which alerted a flash flood warning. Ahqwah, who was always prep for such events, was safe on top of her lusus' back as it swam through the waters. The Water buffalo was alerted to the sound of crying from the Blissful Jester's church, Ahqwah went to investigate and found a drowning Hyppoh and Zurido, she also found the other members atop the building trying to lasso them to safety. Ahqwah, using her chucklevoodoo, parted the water away from the area. Amazed, the members quickly climbed down to aid Hyppoh and Zurido, all while Ahqwah was pushing back the water. Eventually, a rescue drone came and deployed a large water raft for them to ride on to safety. Weeks passed since then, and some of the members pondered as to what happened to that Purple that helped them, only to find said Purple and her lusus in the meal block. Eating a slice of pizza, and waving at the gang with multiple bags surrounding her, Ahqwah was here to stay. Why? Still a mystery.

Chucklevoodoo: Ahqwah can manipulate any body of water around her, but this does put a strain on her body, draining her body of energy and body mass. To combat this issue, she binges on fatty food, like pizza to help regain her energy.

Sundai Florah | He/They | 10'5ft | 18 sweeps | Purple Heart #69359C

The radiant ball of joy, Sundai use to reside in an abandoned building far out on the outskirts, where they lived off of dirt, rats, and their own limbs. Their face was mangled and bloodied, making them unrecognizable. They manage to wander into town and find their way to the church, where they was cleaned up, fed a warm meal, and given replacement arms and legs. They were given their own room to rest, but couldn't, so they wandered around and found Zurido sneaking a late-morning snack. Zurido was spooked but was welcoming to them. She offered them a popsicle to try. Hesitant, Sundai gave a single lick, before swallowing whole and gorging on the rest of them. They grew to love popsicles and other flavorful icy treats. They became a permanent member of the church and helps earns money for the church by selling popsicles they made. Sundai tried to say thank you for everything the church has done for them...but it came out in REVERSE. Alikah, being quick on her toes, gave them their old voice recorder, to help them communicate better.

Chucklevoodoo: Sundai's voodoo the directions of attacks to be reversed, but not just that, Sundai's voodoo can reverse the target's eyesight, speech, and injury location. This can heavily affect a target's equilibrium, causing dizziness and nausea.

Gotell Psydoe | She/Her | 7'9ft | 11 sweeps | Purple (Munsell) #9f00c5

Gotell was the most recent member of the church, a whole month before Zurido's kidnapping. She was in a red affair with a Violetblood for about 2 sweeps in order to swindle them out of their riches, as she was trying to save up to pay off a ransom on her Pitch, who was involved in some sketchy business deals. Sadly, she was not making any progress, so she ended up murdering the Violetblood. When she went to free her Pitch, they were grateful to her but were filled with guilt, which confused her. But before they could tell her, they vanished, only leaving a goodbye letter behind. In a fit of rage, she burned down their childhood schoolhive and hivebatch, and many trolls died in the burning blaze. She grew numb, but she found solace in the night sky, watching as the stars danced and sparkle in the sky. She would spend hours, gazing up at the sky, but she was tired. Gotell, as she was on her way to her favorite stargazing spot, caught a rumor of the church and took an interest. They were doing their routine live performances and decided to buy a ticket, and what she saw set her soul ablaze, as she have never seen such remarkable talent before. The music, the flashing lights, the savory aroma of freshly popped popcorn, and the performers. All of it was so mesmerizing, her eyes stayed glued to the show and she wanted more, Gotell wanted to be part of this. Without hesitation, right after the show, she looked for the head of the church. And with the help of Zurido and a lot of pleading from Gotell, the church gains a new member.

Chucklevoodoo: Through her chucklevoodoo, Gotell can see hints at a troll's future in dream-like visions. None of them are concrete, but they are useful in adding those that desire a guide on how to better their lives. Some visions cause her to cry, due to the immense beauty she feels within them, but she is used to this. During the performances, she stays on the sidelines, reading tarot cards and giving quadrant advice.

Let's try to get this final live blog on my station 19 rewatch done. I'm currently laid up on my couch in mild pain but unable to do anything else.

I don't really like flashback episodes but i want one for the premiere since we are jumping so far ahead. I hate that this episode starts with a fight. But damn knowing what the fight is over, i love how loyal andy is to maya in this episode. Something ive wanted for her and the team. Qnd also jaina looks gorgeous.

The fire scene yay another fire on the fire show lmao. Feel like we missed some last year which im sure was covid related.

The marina scene ugh chefs kiss. I love how happy and giddy they are. I do wish we couldve gotten to see some of their month apart communication and their quarantining apart those two weeks when carina got back. I wrote a little something related to that and i may share before the premiere of season 5.

The quiet moment between carina saying her morning was better than those 6 weeks and then asking about mayas folks was a beautiful and real moment and i love it. So brief it could be overlooked but great choice for team.

The little bit of danielle and stefania that was them and adlibbed in this episode was so great also.

I love that rhey addressed how everyone was able to attend maskless and how safe the wedding was keeping the real world element in. Also vic love you and your chicken dance comment makes me sad that we didnt get it.

Vics parents trying to talk to her about theo is so cute.

Poor lawyer she'd be good for dean.

I understand some people dont come out until late in life but that is hard to hear that you havent loved the person youve been with for decades like you do this new person. That would hurt me so much to hear, like i couldve been with someone who is my great love if youd told me sooner. I love/hate this storyline for travis family.

Oh my how i love the maya confronting her father. She is the brave i want to be. Also what she says to her mom, yes chefs kiss. However when her mom shows up at the wedding, really the woman couldnt grab a nice shirt or dress to wear on her way out or on her way to the wedding.

I also love the look of pride on maya's moms face both at the house and the wedding.

Im sad we probably wont get any moments of her living with marina due to the time jump.

Ugh the choice that cost maya her promotion but ahouldnt have.

Also with all maya's options for clothes, couldnt they had dressed her mama in something borrowed from maya. Lol im sorry it bothers me so.

Vic's song for the intro is beautiful. Barrett has a beautiful voice.

Maya is so happy her mom is there and i love it. Also in my head at least one person videoing is doing it for the greys family who couldnt make it to the wedding for carina.

I also love maya singing along with vic to carina.

Queen of the clipboard forgetting to write her vows is special and funny. I love carina talking her down from a panic attack. Also her simple vow is beautiful and how carina who probably did write her vows saying we're good instead of reading them after seeing maya's mom in attendance and the look shared is everything.

I truly believe that was the moment she 100% knew maya had changed from end of season 3, was definitely all the way in. She knew what it meant for maya's mom to be there.

My first memory of a wedding dress is a little vague but I can still remember the feelings of awe and wonder it inspired. It was my cousin’s wedding and I was her flower girl. I was decked in a frothy, flowery pink dress and my cousin who seemed to fill the room with her height (I was tiny then and everything looked huge from my perspective) was in the biggest ballgown I had ever seen. Struck by the beauty and sheer mass of the dress, I began to look forward to the day I too, would get my ballgown moment (opinions have since changed- I am no longer a ballgown aficionado).

Since then, I have been on a quest to find the most beautiful wedding dresses in the world- and from my rather hyperbolic title, you can tell that today’s post is going to be a doozy.

Hello and welcome to another post where I fangirl over a topic.

Today, I’m going to be pulling together all the wedding dresses I’ve ever loved, from cinema to real life, you name it! This particular post is in two parts and I’ll be discussing why I love the dresses and why I think they make the top ten all-time list.

First up, wedding dresses from film.  

Carrie Bradshaw’s Vivienne Westwood dress from Sex and the City

The Sex and the City universe was a fashion trip. Although I never actually watched the series, I was glued to the products of Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe in the movies. The photoshoot for the magazine after her engagement was announced was amazing, giving us shot after shot of what happens when you get the all-star treatment. The dresses from the designers were works of art but none embodied the fashion forward spirit of our heroine than her Vivienne Westwood dress. To even begin to understand why the dress is so special, you’ve got to first look at its creator. Vivienne Westwood is known as the godmother of punk fashion, and to dip her nib in the wedding ink, you know that such a designer is going to do something extraordinary.

And extraordinary it was. Carrie’s dress is a ballgown, holding true to her princess-like status. But it is also sleek and modern, capturing the very essence of a woman who sees herself as the heart and soul of New York. It is beautiful and paired with the feather, it was stunning. This dress is an all-star entry, deserving of its own spot in an exhibition and I’m sure there a few people who would agree.

Mia Thermopolis-Renaldi’s dress in The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement

I don’t know how many people know this but I am not the biggest fan of lace, mostly because lace in all its forms disagrees with me.

However, I am willing to forget all that when I watch The Princess Diaries, especially the second movie. I love all the fashion moments, from Queen Clarisse’s dress to Mia’s 21st birthday party to their parade outfits. But the zenith of all moments was Mia, gliding down the aisle in the most regal wedding dress a fictional character has ever worn.

And you know what it had?

Lace, and a good amount of it.

Mia’s A-line beauty was built for a queen-in-waiting, the lace being a sign of that girlish, somewhat careless nature of hers and the smooth silk providing structure to the lace, strong support for a girl transitioning into a woman; a princess into a queen. For anyone who is looking for some sweet royal inspiration, look no further than Her Royal Majesty, Queen Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, Queen of Genovia.

Lisa McDowell’s wedding dress in Coming to America

You know what’s wild about Coming to America?

It’s how they managed to pull off all that Euro-African headgear! It cracks me up every time.

Anyway, Coming to America doesn’t disappoint when it comes to delivering iconic lines and equally iconic fashion. I’m sure by now we’re familiar with the various interpretations of Imani’s court presentation dress during prom season but least talked about is the dress that ends it all- Lisa’s bubblegum pink delight of a wedding dress.

If you’ve read my colors post, my total abhorrence for the color pink is no surprise. That hatred melts away when I see Lisa’s dress. In form, it is the typical choice for an African bride- massive ballgown with a bustier and a towering tiara (the only thing it’s missing is the typical jacket- you know the one). But in color, it sets her apart. That’s not to say that there aren’t members of court who are donning the pink for the wedding. No, this is different. They are clad in soft gauzy pastels but she is the American woman who stole the heart of their prince and she is in a quintessentially American color. She is representing.

And in this thesis, I will discuss why everybody needs to vote Lisa McDowell for president…

Just kidding. Tl; dr: Lisa got the best dress a princess-to-be could ask for.

Toula Portcullis’ dress in My Big Fat Greek Wedding

For anyone who hasn’t heard of Toula Portcullis, she is the much-harangued heroine of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Honestly, her pains are many especially after she gets engaged and has to balance the cares of planning an intercultural wedding while still managing to stay sane. She’s stressed and if not for her fiancé, she would have lost it completely.

That aside, the reason her dress is here is not because it is a great beauty (it’s not quite to my liking, really) but for the sentiment attached to it. Toula, as the last female to wed in her family, is gifted with the poufiest dress in history, a dress steeped in a mix of love, culture and good wishes. It is her family’s wish that she lives and lives well and with the way they handle they dress, the ball of fabric passing from happy hand to happy hand before it gets to the bride, their coos and prayers are following her. Even though she declares, “I am a snow beast” as she sees herself in the mirror, she’s still as her family wanted her to be- the most beautiful bride they had ever seen. Later on- after some reverse tailoring by the new couple- excessively frilly, silly and poufy becomes pretty and sweet.

And that is the end of my story.  

Tiana’s wedding dress from The Princess and the Frog

Tiana’s wedding dress is as a few of my friends from school used to say, special spesh. Besides being the first and only black princess in the Disney Princess franchise, she’s also the only one whose dress can boast of what it’s made of.

First, it is straight up juju- a feat I am yet to see any Nollywood movie accomplished. Tiana had the best dressmaker in the world and I know this because from what I know, any woman who is called ‘The Voodoo Queen of the Bayou’ has got to outrank another who goes by ‘Fairy Godmother’ (I’m sorry, Ms. Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Bo but it’s a fact).

Second, her dress is 100% natural- everything swamp material. Tiana marries (pun intended) fashion, function and today’s buzzword, ‘sustainability’ in what is perhaps, the grandest statement a new princess can make. It is green, regal and eco-friendly and who better to wear a dress that striking than a woman who understands how to live a no-waste life.

And next, wedding dresses from real life!

Grace Kelly’s wedding dress

No list about the best weeding dresses is complete without mentioning Grace Kelly.

Before there was Meghan Markle, there was the original American superstar to marry into royalty and her dress… Constructed by her studio’s seamstress, Helen Rose, Grace Kelly’s dress was built in such a way that it did not overwhelm her in the way that many wedding dresses can. The lampshade silhouette of the dress, though uncommon now, is quite unique, especially with the way it stands- with unnoticed support structure, of course. The lace is delicate, sculpted into style that is both modern and old. It fits its wearer perfectly and makes her quite the standout bride. The dress is timeless, an opinion I’m sure most bridal enthusiasts would agree with.

Beyoncé’s vow renewal gown by Galia Lahav

There’s something about Galia Lahav creations that just transport the viewer or wearer into another world. Dresses from the brilliant folks who make them are elegant, stylish and beautiful, and this particular dress – worn by none other than Beyoncé – takes the cake.

I’ve always loved seeing Galia Lahav dresses and this particular dress has been my favorite for a long time. When I saw that Beyoncé had nabbed it for vow renewal, I was practically jumping for joy. It is an elegantly crafted piece, with a structured bodice, statement sleeves, sections of skirt that stylishly expose the thigh, and both delicate lace and rococo-style detailing juxtaposed beside each other. It’s beautiful dress for a beautiful lady who makes beautiful music.

Angelina Jolie’s wedding dress

Just like Toula Portcullis’ dress, Angelina Jolie’s dress was steeped in sentiment. A simple enough dress, pleated at the bodice and attached to an A-line skirt, the main draw of the skirt was what was it’s back. Made by Versace, it was as simple as it was sweet.

Giving her children license to express themselves, the back of the wedding dress was transformed into a canvas for them. Each of her children contributed drawings, doodles and sketches which were then transferred from paper to fabric and transformed into high art. It was, in short, a beautiful tribute from loving children to their loving mother. I bet Maleficent would have loved it.

Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen wedding dress

Whenever a royal wedding rolls around, regular folk and royal watchers get buzzing. All royal families are well, royal and there is none more royal than the most famous one of all: The British Royal Family. So, when a future queen gets her wedding day, the best designers are entrusted with the task of making the royal bride look the part.

To execute this task, the Duchess of Cambridge turned to the house of Alexander McQueen. Head of house, Sarah Burton delivered in a big way, turning the volume on the phrase, ‘English Rose’ all the way up. Incorporating motifs of the English Commonwealth into a traditional princess look, lace and silk and delicate detailing were the order of the day. Her Royal Highness’ wedding dress beat all on her wedding and it has continued to be one of the top contenders on the list of the most defining wedding dresses of the last twenty years.

And this absolutely fantastic creation!

This dress looks like Christmas morning, with a side of ‘It’s my birthday!’ You can be sure that though my preferences aren’t with ball gowns, this is one dress I would not hesitate to put on if it were given to me!

Having a chronic illness is hard- physically, mentally, and emotionally. Add being a mom, wife, and dealing with feeling like I’ve been sawed in half from a failed spinal fusion is the cherry on top.

Lets start off with the positives!!! The girls are both adjusting well to being back in the same school and thriving! Both are getting amazing grades and making lots of new friends! Alexi is on the cheer team and loving it, and we are her biggest fans! Kyndal isn’t a sport/club kinda gal, but is excited to be a care buddy to the special education program in the coming months! She is so good with kiddos with disabilities and has such a sweet soul!

Jon has been fishing A LOT! I’m so thrilled he has found his passion to be on the water again and has an outlet for self care! Being the rock for our family can take a lot out on one person. He’s had to really step up his game with being a caretaker, the main source of income, and assume a lot of the responsibilities that we used to share. We are working on adapting to my limitations and finding a happy medium. The girls help as well, but it’s still a lot on him. Burnout is a REAL thing, and his time on the water recharges his soul! I am so blessed to have him as my partner, and we just celebrated 13 years married and 22 years in love!

Speaking of recharging the soul. I’ve been struggling emotionally lately. Shame, anger, sadness- all related to my disability and the limitations it places on me. It has changed the course of my life, of which I have no control of. I worked so hard to carve out my future to contribute equally financially, follow my passion to serve others in my career, and to be a hands on mother/wife while making amazing memories. All of that was robbed from me. I have being seeing a therapist, which has been so helpful; removed toxic people from my life, and try everyday to celebrate the small things and stay as positive as I can. I’m doing my best to make memories that make the dark ones seem not so bad. My most exciting thing to report is that I am now volunteering in the special care nursery with babies who are born addicted, and other sweet angels who need extra love. Basically I’m a professional snuggler!!! (... and I change a diaper time to time and help with feeds). I told Jon, I feel like I need these babies as much as they need me. My disability does not keep me from being able to hold a 2-8lb baby against my chest as they listen to my heartbeat and I rock them back to sleep. My disability does not limit the human heart to love and nurture infants who are innocently battling the withdrawal from substances. I am so blessed to have this opportunity and can’t even begin to explain the joy it brings my soul.

I have had a plethora of doctor appointments. They seem to all hit at once. Without going into detail about what’s already been completed, here’s what to expect over the next two weeks. I have a MRI on my cervical spine to determine the progression of the two disc protrusions at the C5-7 level. I’ve been having an increase in symptoms and it’s been 5 years that I’ve been placing bandaids on the problem. Hoping I can keep going without having to rely on medical intervention and have another fusion. I have my 6mo post op CT on my lumbar spine to determine the level of bone growth. This will also serve as the last set of images prior to scheduling my fusion revision. The surgeon will remove the disc cage that slipped out 5mm when I was two days post op, and place a smaller cage and plate it to keep it from slipping again. This should decrease a significant amount of pain and allow me to regain some strength to be able to lose the weight I’ve packed on from four major back to back surgeries in a 20mo span. The plan is to have this surgery before the end of the year. I also have a mammogram and a MRA of my aorta. I’m praying for positive results for those two tests over anything!

Kyndal has her MRI on her spine coming up too. She will need to be sedated because she will be in the tube for a little over two hours. My decision to schedule my revision surgery will be contingent on her needs. We are praying for positive results. Her a-typical scoliosis is 1/100 and we are imaging to rule out chiari, tethered cord, and possible tumor in the canal. We are also looking for rotation of the vertebra, stenosis, and nerve root obstruction. Best case scenario is none of this is present and we monitor the curve every 4mo for the next 6 years. Her follow up is 11/11, which is a wishing time (11:11), and I’m taking that as good juju!!! 😊❤️

THQ Nordic’s Nicktoon game re-releases: Ideas (Part 1)

Well it’s been a while hasn’t it. I didn’t plan to leave this blog behind for this long, but I do plan on reviving it with new stuff whenever I can! And i’ve been thinking a lot about something recently that I thought i’d finally give my two cents on. 

So back on March 21, 2018 THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon announced a partnership to bring back classic Nicktoon based games on modern consoles, with on shelf information “in the coming months” and listing 16 different shows they’ll be pulling from. And so far, we’ve had radio silence on the matter. With Comic Con and Gamescom coming up I have a feeling we’ll hear more about these soon but for now, I wanna share some ideas for the different ways they could re-release these games: via HD Collections!

With so many games based on so many shows there’s a lot to go through, so if I come up with more i’ll make a follow up post to this. The only rule is that i’m pulling from games based on the shows THQ Nordic listed. Anything on console and handheld is fair game.

Spongebob Squarepants: Heavy Iron Collection

Starting off with the most obvious and heavily requested re-release even before THQ Nordic got their hands on the Nick license. Spongebob is one of my favorite Nicktoons and has had MANY games since his 1999 debut. But some of the best were made by the California based Heavy Iron Studios. The incredible 3D collectathon Battle for Bikini Bottom, the not as good but still really fun spiritual successor The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, and lastly the 10th anniversary tie-in game Spongebob’s Truth or Square. 

Having all three of Heavy Iron’s games bundled together in one package would give fans easy access to some of the most underrated platformers out there. Hell Battle for Bikini Bottom HD alone would sell like hotcakes (or Krabby Patties in this case). The Movie Game and Truth or Square may not have reached the heights of that first game, but are still fun and charming 3D adventures that any Spongebob fan can enjoy. It would even be really cool if Truth or Square was a special edition that included the PSP exclusive levels w/ respective collectables (Squidward’s Talent Show and Ambush at the Krusty Krab) alongside all the content from the console version. 

Tak: Juju Trilogy

Another severely underrated series of 3D platformers, the Tak games developed by Avalanche Software (who would later go on to work with Disney) were a very unique case among Nicktoon games in that they weren’t based on a cartoon or movie! Instead, they were completely original adventures made from the ground up for video games. The Tak series has since become fondly remembered for it’s lush worlds, colorful characters, hilarious dialogue, and atmospheric music. And the time has finally come for Tak to make a comeback!

This HD Collection would put the focus on remastering the original trilogy by Avalanche. Tak and the Power of Juju, Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams, and Tak: The Great Juju Challenge would all be included. Some features that i’d love to see would be having more unlockables for 100%ing Tak 1 (instead of just storyboards and concept art, maybe some music and models?), a level select or at least some way to revisit levels in Tak 2 without starting a new file, fixing the various bugs and graphical issues in Tak 2, and online multiplayer for Tak 2 and 3. It’s a lot to ask for but who knows! It may happen. In any case i’d just be happy for these three games to get bundled together so more people can notice them. And also help us wash the taste of that TV show reboot out of our mouths finally. 

The Fairly Oddparents Two Pack

Despite The Fairly Oddparents running for 10 seasons and being one of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows, Timmy and his godparents have barely made a mark with video games of their own. In fact, only TWO games have ever been released on consoles based on the show. So why not bring them back? The Fairly Oddparents: Breakin’ Da Rules and The Fairly Oddparents: Shadow Showdown were both developed by Blitz Games, and are both 3D platformers with a similar setup. Timmy runs around levels collecting stars in order to grant wishes, due to his Fairies being hindered either by force or by a mysterious villain. 

Both of these platformers may not take long to beat, but they’re a very fun ride all the while. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll recognize levels in both games based on episodes and locales from the show, and tons of classic characters show up. If you grew up and enjoyed the pre-Poof/Sparky/Chloe era of the show, you’ll love these games. Bringing them both back would not only allow Timmy and his fairies to get back on consoles, but also give fans of the older era of the show something to enjoy. Plus we’d get to see some of the best cel-shading out there in HD!

Nicktoons: United Collection

To round off my first collection of collections, here’s one that would make a lot of fans happy. While kids today see the Avengers unite on screen, kids in the 2000s had a different kind of all star crossover in the world of video games with the Nicktoons series (known as Spongebob and Friends in Europe). The first three games were all developed by Blue Tounge Interactive, while the 4th and final installment was handed over to Griptonite Games. Over the four (console) games, nine different Nicktoons crossover: Spongebob Squarepants, Danny Phantom, The Fairly Oddparents, Jimmy Neutron, Tak and the Power of Juju, My Life as a Teenage Robot, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim. The handheld versions feature additional shows with Catscratch and El Tigre. Even more Nicktoons cameo in Attack of the Toybots as collectables. 

This HD Collection would include the main home console versions of all four games, Nicktoons Unite, Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island, Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots, and Spongebob Squarepants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom. These 3D Platformers/beat em ups may vary in quality, but are very popular amongst fans of the Nicktoons and are actually very unique amongst most crossovers in that they actually share continuity. Events from one game are referenced in another, characters remember each other and become closer with every game, Volcano Island returns, etc. Having all four games in one pack would unite the entire saga together and possibly fix many of the original issues these games had. Mainly that horrible save glitch in Globs of Doom, PLEASE fix that.

90 In 30: Steelers 2021 Training Camp Preview Series: Benny Snell Jr., Robert Spillane, Donovan Stiner

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2021 offseason practices have long since concluded. Next up for the team is their annual training camp, which should get underway in the latter part of July. Ahead of training camp, we will preview the team’s 90-man roster three players at a time for you as part of a 30-post series. This Steelers 90-man roster preview that includes outlooks for each player goes alphabetically by last name to make it easy to follow along with. The next three players we will preview today are Benny Snell Jr., Robert Spillane, and Donovan Stiner. RB Benny Snell Jr. — Snell’s second season in the NFL with the Steelers included the former fourth-round draft pick out of Kentucky registering 111 carries for 368 yards and four touchdowns. Snell also logged 10 receptions for another 61 yards in the 281 total offensive snaps that played during the 2020 regular season. On top of that offensive playing time that Snell received in 2020, he also logged 198 total special teams snaps. He had five total tackles on special teams in 2020 and also recovered a fumble. Overall, Snell’s play was average in 2020 just like all of the other running backs used by the Steelers in 2020. Outlook: Snell will be battling for one of three or four running back spots this summer and essentially for the right to backup rookie running back Najee Harris, the team’s first-round draft pick this year. Snell’s immediate competition for a 2021 roster spot this summer includes Anthony McFarland Jr., Jaylen Samuels, and newcomer Kalen Ballage. Snell is a willing and able special teams player and with 2021 being the running backs third year in Pittsburgh, he should have a better than average chance of sticking on the roster again this season and dressing weekly for games as either the second or third string running back behind Harris. assuming Snell does stick on the roster again this season, he might be hard pressed to see 100 touches as long as long as Harris stays healthy. ILB Robert Spillane — Spillane made the Steelers roster in 2020 as a backup behind starting inside linebackers Devin Bush and Vince Williams and that meant the plan for him was to mostly contribute on special teams. When Bush was lost for the season in Week 6 to a knee injury, Spillane was jettisoned into the starting lineup, and he even was the defensive quarterback for several games until a knee injury of his own in Week 13 forced him to the team’s Reserve/Injured list for the final three regular season games. While Spillane did return for the Steelers’ Super Wild Card game, he was very ineffective in that contest and played poorly. He ended the regular season with 43 total tackles on defense and two sacks. He was credited with four tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, four passes defensed, a fumble recovery and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. Spillane also had two total special teams tackles on the season. He played 377 total defensive snaps during the regular season and 153 more on special teams. In the Steelers’ lone playoff game, Spillane played another 59 defensive snaps and 12 others on special teams. He registered nine total tackles in that contest. Outlook: The summer outlook for Spillane begins with him needing to compete for the right to be the Steelers’ other starting inside linebacker beside Bush. Competing against Spillane for that job figures to be veteran Vince Williams and maybe even third-year player Ulysees Gilbert III if he stays healthy. If Spillane ultimately wins that other staring spot this summer, and he has decent shot at doing so, he will obviously then be expected to play quite extensively in 2021. If, however, Spillane fails to win the starting spot beside Bush, he will likely enter the regular season as the top inside linebacker backup. He’ll also likely be asked to play quite extensively on special teams in 2021 as he is an above average player in that phase of the game. S Donovan Stiner — Stiner, one of the Steelers’ higher-priority undrafted free agent signings this offseason, played his college football at Florida. The safety finished his college career with 145 total tackles and six interceptions in playing in 41 games played. At his Pro Day, Stiner measured in at 6014, 205 pounds. He reportedly ran his 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds and did 15 reps on the bench. Outlook: Stiner will be battling for a backup safety spot during training camp and the preseason. While he is versatile safety, Stiner might be better suited to player closer to the line of scrimmage than deep. His best shot at making the 53-man roster in the coming weeks likely revolves around him being top-notch special teams contributor and one that can play on all four units. The best bet when it comes to Stiner’s future come the start of the regular season is that he lands on the Steelers practice squad. That would give him a chance to develop for a full season. Krystal is a sweetheart and would baby me until I was back to 100%. But Krystal also trusts Delilah because again, Krystal is a sweetheart, so she’d believe Delilah when she told her that she was putting a special ingredient in to help me feel better.

Yes! I’d make it a good thing and be able to help me and my family out!!

Well, I don’t think I can even do one pull up, first of all. So I’m already off to a bad start. And plus, writing is just something I do for fun, and I don’t even do it that often honestly.

Ranking the Most Challenging AFC Playoff Teams for the Patriots

I’m sure you’re all completely heartbroken that the Patriots just had to go and secure a first round bye and rob you of my preview for a Wild Card Round game. Well, dry those tears, and we’ll go ahead and dive into an analysis of which teams I believe the Patriots would have success against, and which they could struggle with in the AFC playoff race.

Let’s begin with the easiest option.

5. Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are the NFL equivalent of those mind wipers from the Men In Black films. It’s not entirely clear if I’ve ever walked away from one of the Titans’ games this season and had not immediately forgotten everything that I just witnessed. Doing a shot of NyQuil and following it up with crushed up Ambien pills would probably get you around the same place as watching three and a half hours of the Tennessee Titans play football.

What my poor attempt at humor is trying to suggest is the Titans are boring. In some kind of mess at the end of the season, the Titans accidentally won their way into the playoffs, and they completely do not deserve to be there.

The offense is totally unremarkable. Marcus Mariota threw a putrid 13 touchdowns to 15 interceptions in yet another injury plagued year, and the two running backs (DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry) are somewhere south of mediocre, averaging just around 45 yards per game a pop. The top receiver is a 33 year old Delanie Walker who was targeted 111 times for 74 receptions, 807 yards, and just three touchdowns. Mariotta has the lowest quarterback rating of all potential AFC teams with a lowly 79.3.

The defense is what one would call a double edged sword. One end pointed at the opposition’s quarterback and running back, and the other edge impaling several defensive backs and leaving a receiver wide open 25 yard down the field. The pass rush is quite good, and the team ranks in the top five against the run, but the pass defense couldn’t stop a common cold let alone the top ranked New England offense.

If the Titans manage to defeat the Chiefs (big if), I’ll probably have to accept some eldritch being has decided that its a big Mariota fan and is warping reality as we know it. Or, y’know, they’ll get absolutely obliterated by the Pats or Steelers in the next round.

4. Buffalo Bills

There tends to be a common phrase in the National Football League which has never sat quite right with me. The phrase being “It’s tough to beat a team three times (in one season).” If a team hasn’t won, or really been that competitive, in the two prior engagements, it doesn’t make a ton of sense to assume that means they’ll be ready to go for round three.

The Bills have had success in some areas against the Patriots, but the final scores do not reflect that. Simply put, the Bills are not a complete football team, and they don’t stand much of a chance against the number one seed Patriots.

In Buffalo, the word “offense” has a different name, it’s “McCoy.” The Bills live and die by McCoy, and he’s obviously the most critical member of that team. McCoy also happens to be hurt, and will probably not be operating at 100% strength even if he can play through the injury. The passing attack is, much like Tennessee, nothing to write home about, but that mostly comes down to just pitiful offensive line play. Patriots fans (myself included) have complained at length this year regarding how many sacks Brady has taken. On every snap, Brady is sacked 5.7% of the time. Tyrod Taylor is sacked 9.9% of the time, by far the most out of the AFC playoff teams. This will completely destroy any type of momentum an offense builds, and it’s easily the biggest weak point of the Bills team.

The defense is not much better, ranking 18th in points allowed. To the credit of that squad, they have caused Brady to have one of his worst games of the season in the first match up, but Dion Lewis emerged as a major threat in both games. There isn’t much room for optimism for the Bills Mafia as Buffalo has struggled all year to contain the run, ranking 29th in yards and 32nd in touchdowns allowed. The Bills defense could be put at the mercy of Brady’s vaunted play-action attack, which isn’t a favorable situation in the slightest.

If the Bills manage to defeat Jacksonville (which is honestly quite possible considering just how bad the Jags have looked at points this season), it will set up a meeting in Foxborough the following week. The Patriots are probably viewing that as the best possible outcome.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

There have been many aspects of the NFL season that can be described as “unpredictable,” but none are quite as shocking as the Jacksonville Jaguars. They have posted a respectable 10-6 record and emerged as the third seed team in the AFC. Considering recent seasons, that’s almost worthy of the Coach of the Year award itself.

The Jags boast the second best scoring defense, and the fifth best scoring offense in the league. It’s all fairly impressive, but then one examines the teams played post-bye: Bengals, Chargers, Browns, Cardinals, Colts, Seahawks, Texans, 49ers, and the Titans. Just three of those teams finished over five hundred.

Regardless of scheduling, the offensive has been a massive improvement over previous years, and rookie running back Leonard Fournette has been a large reason why as he went over 1,000 rushing yards in thirteen games played and nine touchdowns. Bortles has also seemingly gotten over his pick-six issue from a season ago, but the quarterback still has a difficult time maintaining possession of the football as he has thrown thirteen interceptions and fumbled nine times. The Jags will need to fix that turnover issue, while forcing some of their own, in order to keep pace with the Patriots.

Defensively, the Jags are the best in class within the AFC. The pass rush is excellent (which spawned that awful Sacksonville nickname), and the secondary’s ability to intercept footballs have them ranked third in the league in that category. This largely can explain the improvements seen offensively, as the Jags are fairly apt at returning position back to their attacking unit.

In spite of all of this, it is of personal belief that the Patriots match up well against the Jaguars. The Patriots simply do not turn the ball over often at all, and the New England methodical defense would force Bortles into drives in which he must make consistent throws which has been a struggle this season. The pass rush could keep it close for around third quarters, but the match up has the feel of a Patriots fourth quarter blowout. That will have to wait, however, as there is no way for the Jaguars to play the Patriots in the divisional round due to seeding.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

There was a solid five to ten minutes in which I considered listing the Chiefs as the top threat to the Patriots, and that could still be the case when it’s all said and done. The early front runner for a “super team” crashed back to reality after a torrid 5-0 start which included impressive wins over the Eagles, Chargers, Texans (under Watson), and the Pats. However, the Chiefs have come back into their own in the final four weeks of the season and are looking to have gained significant momentum heading into the playoffs.

The Chiefs hold the fifth ranked scoring offense while ranking fifteenth in scoring defense.  With the season opening win over the Patriots in Foxborough, the team has proven that they can get it done in one of the most difficult buildings to play, but the teams are obviously quite different since that showdown.

The offense is one of my personal favorites to watch in the league, which is completely shocking to say seeing as how Alex Smith was regarded as one of the most boring “game managers” in the league just a season ago. Smith has thrown 26 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions and an outstanding 67.5% completion rating. In the passing attack, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill are among the best weapons a quarterback can ask for. Rookie running back Kareem Hunt has taken the league by storm with over 1,700 total yards and 11 touchdowns on the year. The offense is a multi-layered one, and that could prove difficult for the Patriots to shut down in a possible match up.

The defense is not quite as dominate, however, as the defense is largely ineffectual at stopping the run or pass. A large reason for the passing woes is the injury to safety Eric Berry, which could make containing Gronkowski an infinitely more difficult request for the Chiefs. The pass rush hasn’t been up to snuff, and the run defense being as poor as it has been could allow New England to set up a decent balance and dictate the game tempo.

The Chiefs would likely have to beat the Patriots by keeping up score wise, but with the weapons on offense that isn’t too outlandish of a claim to make. The Chiefs are incredibly protective of the football, and would likely limit New England’s chances by extending drives with Hunt and Kelce while relying on Hill for big plays on offense and special teams. The Patriots would play the Chiefs in the event of a Kansas City and Jacksonville victory.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

Finally, the seemingly destined rematch. Not much can be said about the two seed Steelers that hasn’t already been stated. They possess one of the most talented offensive groups in the league with Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, and JuJu Smith-Schuster. The previous match up looked to be all but confirmed for a Pittsburgh victory until a last second goal line interception by Eric Rowe. The Steelers sit at the same record as the Patriots, 13-3, and have consistently looked like one of the top teams in the league. As a result, they sit at number one on this list.

The offense speaks for itself, but the Steelers defense has been impressive this season as well. The team is one of the most complete ones in the playoffs for either conference, and it will likely either be them or New England representing the AFC in Minnesota come February. 

As previously mentioned, it is personally believed that the Steelers and Chiefs have a lot in common and many statements can be freely exchanged between the two. One of the aspects that differs is the pass rush, as the Steelers have had 56 defensive sacks as opposed to Kansas City’s 31. This is the key difference maker when considering which teams stand to have a decent shot at beating the Pats in the playoffs. The injury to Ryan Shazier has hurt Pittsburgh in run defense, however, which could spell doom for a team that has struggled so many times in the past against the Brady-led Patriots.

Much like the Chiefs, this game would likely come down to a shootout between both squads. If the Steelers can hit Brady early and often, that may be enough to keep the Pats off the field long enough to score an incredibly rare victory in Foxborough, but Dion Lewis may have a thing or two to say about that strategy. Despite the Steelers offensive might, the advantage goes to the Patriots in this match up. The Patriots and Steelers cannot play one another in the divisional round.

Well that’s certainly the most I’ve written on this blog to this point. I hope it was as much fun to read as it was for me to write it. Next week there will probably be a one-off in place of Three Up, Three Down, followed by the standard preview later in the week.

ABC NEWS PRESENTS SPECIAL COVERAGE OF THE DISPARITIES IN RACE AND CLASS AMID THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

‘Pandemic – A Nation Divided’ Begins Tomorrow, May 20, Across All ABC News

ABC News announced today it will present special coverage for three days across ABC News to examine the racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities amid the coronavirus pandemic. “Pandemic – A Nation Divided” kicks off on Wednesday, May 20 with new stories about how the virus has heightened racial/ethnic and socioeconomic divides coast-to-coast. The most recent statistics are troubling: in the nation’s capital, Latinos have been seven times more likely to be infected with coronavirus than white residents; black residents in Chicago are nearly three times more likely to die than white city residents and in Georgia 80% of COVID-19 hospitalizations are African Americans; in New York City African Americans are twice as likely to die of the virus than white residents and in New York State, of the 21 zip codes with the most new COVID-19 hospitalizations, 20 have greater than average black and/or Latino populations.

“As the COVID-19 global pandemic became a black, brown and working class epidemic in America, we quickly recognized there was an urgent need to tell more stories from these communities,” said Marie Nelson, SVP of Integrated Content Strategy, ABC News. “It is incredibly heartening to see every corner of ABC News think big and deeply for a cohesive examination of the many sobering stories that have made the racial and class divide, stemming from this pandemic, more apparent across this country.”

“Nightline”

Co-anchor Juju Chang will     give a glimpse into the pandemic’s epicenter in the U.S. – the Bronx. As she     walks neighborhood by neighborhood, Chang will connect the dots about     public housing, close quarter living, food deserts and underlying health     hazards. She talks to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a NYC bus driver who     has lost co-workers to the virus and now works double shifts because     thousands of his colleagues are out sick and a young city council member     raised in public housing. “Nightline” also meets a local Latino doctor     working to expand testing. 

Co-anchor Byron Pitts will     bring viewers to central Mississippi, where an immigrant, who was detained in     massive raids that targeted local meat processing plants in early August,     opens up about the hazardous conditions and outbreaks inside the area’s     poultry plants and detention centers. He says he and other detainees say they asked for PPE for weeks before receiving any. “Nightline” talks to Mayor Chokwe Antar     Lumumba and Dr. Charles Robertson, who works at one of the largest     hospitals in the state and has built 170 ventilators of his own design.

Correspondent Deborah     Roberts will shine a light on the suburbs of Chicago where a     family with mixed immigration status live in a multi-generational home.     One family member works at an Amazon warehouse, another at a meat-packing     plant, and their story displays the risk of going to work and the     complications and limitations of trying to social-distance at home.     “Nightline” also speaks with other Amazon center employees who have been     calling for safer working conditions, fearful that they could bring the     virus home.

“World News Tonight with David Muir”

Chief National     Correspondent Matt Gutman travels to Navajo Nation, the     reservation spanning the corners of New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah, that     has lost more of its citizens in the pandemic than many states with     experts predicting their peak is yet to come. “World News Tonight” speaks     to Native doctors who are battling the virus that has ravaged their people     and distributing food and medicine. The report examines how the Navajo are     fighting to keep traditions alive amidst some of the strictest lockdown     measures in the country and features one hard-hit multi-generational     family that lost relatives and even their home.

Correspondent Alex     Perez reports from the streets of Chicago, a city facing two     public health crises: COVID-19 and continued gun violence. Despite safer     at home measures, the city has experienced an uptick in crime. “World News     Tonight” follows an outreach worker in the Roseland area, who is part of     Chicago CRED, a frontline group working to break the cycle of violence in the     community and now informing the public about the seriousness of the     pandemic, and visits a testing center performing approximately 100 tests a     day in a mostly African American and Latino neighborhood. In     addition, an emergency room physician paints a real picture of racial     disparity in COVID-19 cases in city hospitals.

Correspondent Adrienne     Bankert visits the Bronx to report on how community groups like     East Side House Settlement are helping families find solutions to the challenges     they’re facing during the COVID-19 crisis including remote learning, food     shortages, and job insecurity. Bankert interviews Daniel Diaz, Executive     Director of East Side House Settlement, about how the organization has     given out free hotspots as well as more than 230 tablets to students in     its community so they can continue their learning. Diaz also shares the     various other ways the nonprofit has pivoted from workforce/education     development to filling even the most basic needs for residents including     distributing food weekly, making remote health and safety check-ins on     families and students and helping pay some residents’ bills. “World News     Tonight” also highlights some Bronx families willing to give an inside     look at how they’re tackling distance learning and their plans for the     summer and concerns as the fall 2020 school year quickly approaches.

“Good Morning America”

Senior National     Correspondent Paula Faris will report on the role that     The Boys and Girls Club has played in offering child care to essential     workers.

Multi-Platform Reporter Rachel     Scott will interview leaders at Howard University who are     offering free coronavirus tests in especially hard-hit communities in the     nation’s capital.

“The View”

Senate     Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will discuss the racial disparity in     COVID-19 cases plaguing communities across the country when he joins the     co-hosts on Thursday.

“Pandemic: What You Need to Know”

Mississippi     Gov. Tate Reeves will address the deep racial divide in cases and the     explosion of cases near detention centers, prisons and meat-packing     plants.

Jonathan     Nez, President of Navajo Nation, will discuss how the virus has threatened     their communities, and Birmingham, Alabama Mayor Randall Woodfin will     highlight his economic plan for bringing his city back.

Dr.     Monica Goldston, CEO of Prince George's County Schools, will add her thoughts     on how to make sure no low-income and minority children in Maryland get     left behind.

A     profile of Fawn Weaver, an inspiring African American woman owner of a     whiskey distillery, will feature how she pivoted her company to respond to     the crisis.

“ABC News Live Prime” with Linsey Davis

Anchor Linsey Davis will     explore how the virus has set back residents of disadvantaged     neighborhoods struggling to get out. She looks closely at one Brooklyn neighborhood     where a child mourns the loss of his mother who died in a hospital     struggling to stay open. This child who will now have to be raised by his     grandmother now faces a future uncertain because the school he attends     doesn’t know if it will reopen in the fall.

Correspondent Diane     Macedo will profile the struggles of an Illinois and Texas family     with mixed immigration status who are trying to wade through COVID-19     benefits that appear to have left many of them out.

Scott will examine the COVID-19     experience on one of the wealthiest and poorest neighborhoods in our     nation’s capital.

Roberts will spotlight black     leaders who have stepped up as the cavalry to save their own     neighborhoods.

ABC News and GMA Digital

ABCNews.com will pay tribute to     thought leaders and pioneers who have been lost to COVID-19, offer a look     at how the black church in America will rebuild after losing so many     members of clergy and provide a close examination of how minority-small     businesses are struggling to get federal economic relief.

A feature on Asian     American-owned small businesses will give an inside look into the unique     economic realities and hardships they’re facing.

Original produced video pieces     will feature experts offering reasons for long-standing health and economic     disparities in the country and next steps.

GoodMorningAmerica.com will     feature and profile graduating seniors, extraordinary young men and women     of color, who overcame incredible odds.

FiveThirtyEight

A new investigative project will launch that analyzes testing     site availability and breaks down how access to COVID-19 testing varies by     race, income and more.

“This Week with George Stephanopoulos”

The Powerhouse roundtable will     discuss voting and voting access, as well as new polling about the uneven     toll of the virus and anxieties about getting back to work.

ABC Audio

“Start     Here” podcast hosted by Brad     Mielke will explore the intersection of COVID-19 and race through     health and the pre-existing conditions that lead to greater sickness, the     lack of resources for vulnerable populations and the potential for     skepticism of medical care in general; the economic impact on families;     and how this crisis has shaped communities for the long term and could     exacerbate historic inequities and where things could land a generation     from now.

Special editions of the daily radio special and podcast “COVID-19: What You Need to Know,”     hosted by Correspondent Aaron     Katersky, will be released each day. In addition to answering     questions about the virus itself, the special editions will examine how     COVID-19 affects different communities unevenly.

This Friday ABC Audio will also release a special edition of the     radio newsmagazine and podcast “Perspective,”     hosted by ABC News Radio Anchor Cheri     Preston. The hour-long program will focus entirely on issues of race     and ethnicity, and how some groups have been more at risk during the     pandemic.

ABC NewsOne

The affiliate news service of ABC News will offer stations a     report from Multi-Platform Reporter Alex     Presha on the challenges minority-owned small businesses are facing in     the time of the pandemic and his interview with NAACP President Derrick     Johnson. NewsOne will also provide resources for ABC stations to support     their coverage of this issue. NewsOne provides news content and services     for more than 200 ABC affiliates and international news partners.

ABC Owned Television Stations 

On Wednesday, 6abc/WPVI-TV     Philadelphia will contribute to the Pandemic: A Nation Divided special     with anchor Nydia Han airing a report on the racial     discrimination faced by the Asian American community and the support to     extinguish racism, and reporter George Solis presenting a     digital reporter’s notebook from the perspective of a Hispanic American     reporter and the impact on his community. And, on     Thursday, WLS-TV Chicago will air an investigative report on     Cook County to examine the health complications more likely experienced by     African Americans and the increased likelihood of Latinx communities to     contract the disease.  

On Wednesday, ABC7/KABC-TV Los     Angeles will host a virtual town hall, “Race and Coronavirus: A SoCal Conversation,” featuring Veronica     Miracle and Los Angeles-based doctors and leaders to discuss how     the virus has affected the health and finances of racial and ethnic groups     and contributed to the rise of discrimination.  

On Thursday, ABC13/KTRK-TV     Houston will host its second virtual Town Hall to discuss the racial     impact of COVID-19, focusing on the Asian American Community. Hosted by     ABC13’s Eyewitness News reporter Miya Shay, the town hall     coincides with the observance of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI)     Heritage Month to discuss the disparate challenges of COVID-19 faced by     the 7% of Houstonians that identify as AAPI. KTRK-TV Houston’s first virtual town hall (5/7/20) featured Houston     Mayor Sylvester Turner and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. 

The virtual town halls are the     latest in a series of community offerings across the owned markets:     WABC-TV New York hosted an Instagram Live Town Hall ‘Coronavirus Pandemic Impact     on African Americans: Mortality, Messaging and Money’ (4/29/20);     KABC-TV Los Angeles exclusively streamed the Minority Health Institute Virtual Town Hall on the Impact     of COVID-19 in African American Communities (4/30/20); WPVI-TV     Philadelphia hosted a Town Hall about The Virus of Hate (5/14/20), and KGO-TV San     Francisco hosted three-part “Bay Area Conversation about Race & Coronavirus.”     All town halls are available for streaming on digital and the stations’     connected TV apps across Amazon FireTV, Android TV, Roku,     and tvOS.  

Additionally,     stations continue to report the disparate impacts from COVID-19 that     exist within communities with previous notable     coverage including WTVD-TV Raleigh-Durham's broadcast of a half     hour report called The Racial Divide on the financial, health, and     educational disparities resulting from the pandemic (5/7/20), WABC-TV New     York’s “Upclose with Bill Ritter” that recently     featured New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, “Tiempo” and “Here and Now” public affairs     programs, and WPVI-TV Raleigh-Durham's story on uncovering     the challenges in the Latinx community.
