Happy birthday, Josefina! And mini Josefina, who is dressed up for the special occasion. This year marks the bicentennial of Josefina's stories, which begin in 1824.
In fact, all my mini Josefina dolls are celebrating today! Lining them up shows how they've changed over the years. On the left is my oldest mini, a circa 1997 first edition Pleasant Company doll. Next to her is Christmas Josefina, a 25th anniversary edition released in 2011. Then there's BeForever Josefina from 2014. And birthday Josefina, who was released in 2016 for American Girl's 30th anniversary.
As a 10th birthday present, I gave Josefina this darling little treasure chest, which vaguely reminds me of the large trunk from her collection. I found it at a weird little thrift store in Roswell.
It's a bit too small to hold all of her clothing, but it's perfect for her accessories like shoes, socks, sashes, rebozos, and hair ribbons. There's a mirror under the lid, too.

in case you're wondering how I might be doing mentally, this week I've watched 10+ hours of American Girl content on YouTube and bought myself (full grown woman with bills to pay) 7 American Girl books online. Last week I was so British I'd barely even heard of that brand. This week I would literally die for Kirsten Larson. The DollTube pipeline is real.

Did any of you participate in Hallmark’s Circle of Smiles promotion back in 2003? I’m surprised that I didn’t know about it back then, but I’m having fun collecting the merch now.
Sixteen charms. Half with the characters and half with their favorite animals. Kaya’s character charm is on the bracelet.
Two bracelets, portrait pins, and a necklace. (I already purchased the necklace a few months ago so the duplicate will be going on Mercari).
Activity booklet, certificate of participation (whited out by previous owner) and autograph book with stationary supplies.
Two cookie tins. The round one was empty when I got it. The rectangular one contains cookie cutters and recipes. (All of the recipes except for Kaya’s can be found in the cookbooks).

This is the primary AG holiday decor in our house. Seemed unlikely that we could afford to collect all the historical holiday outfits, so this is the next best thing.

Josefina says Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
Since Josefina was gifted to me by my partner, who is Indigenous Mexican (Totonac/Nahua), I made her a traditional Totonac outfit to wear for the event. The huipil (blouse) embroidery was my favorite part!
On a more serious note, Indigenous women in Mexico experience levels of violence almost three times higher than non-Indigenous women living in the same areas, including physical and sexual abuse and a lack of access to the legal system to seek justice. In your acknowledgement of Hispanic Heritage Month, please remember the struggles of Indigenous Latin Americans, and Indigenous women in particular who face inequality due to their sex as well as their ethnicity.

🏳️🌈 Happy Pride Month 2023! 🏳️🌈
This afternoon, @kozmicrain and I went to the Capitol building for a dolly Pride photoshoot featuring Evette, Josefina, Samantha, Nellie, Mini-Rain, and Makena! Sam, Nellie, and Mini-Rain are proudly carrying the lesbian flag, while Evie, Kay, and Josefina are supporting them. Even Jip got in on the fun with his rainbow bandanna! (And yes, I headcanon Sam and Nellie as girlfriends, at least later on in the series.)
