I think one of my favourite and incredibly underrated princess cake lore is that as soon as jenson made it big as a hot shot f1 driver he immediately bought an obnoxious 72ft yacht and it's parked right outside where the harbour can be seen from nico's apartment:
After that I had to high tail it to the John Walker & Sons Voyager yacht, moored in the quiet Cap d’Ail harbour onto which Nico Rosberg’s apartment looks and Jenson Button keeps his Sunseeker, Ichiban.

Half time with our calendar and this is the perfect moment to introduce you to a lady who shows the interface of Age of Sail and Age of Steam. She is generally regarded as the start of the Age of Steam and yet she still has both elements. But who am I talking about ? - The HMS Warrior
Tumblr media
HMS Warrior
More about her history here:
HMS WARRIOR was built as part of Britain’s response to concerns over France’s maritime ambitions which included the building of LA GLOIRE, a powerful ironclad which was the most advanced warship of its day.  WARRIOR was commissioned on 1 August 1861 and at that time unquestionably ruled the seas. Her main guns, engines and boilers were contained within an armoured wrought iron hull and she could be driven by both steam and sail. This combination meant that she could outrun and outgun any ship afloat and she never fired a shot in anger – the classic deterrent.
During the first commission her main role was to lead the Channel Squadron. On 22 November 1864 she paid off for her first major refit at Portsmouth Dockyard during which the ship was comprehensively refurbished. She was also completely re-armed with 7” and 8” muzzle loaded rifled guns. However, in the American Civil War the success of the Monitor was to have a dramatic effect on naval thinking and WARRIOR’s role as ‘Monarch of the Seas’ was to be very short-lived.
She re-commissioned in July 1867 and re-joined the Channel Fleet. The second commission was rather less interesting than the first as she was no longer regarded as the most powerful warship afloat and faded from the limelight. The second commission ended in 1871 and she then spent four years in refit at Portsmouth being fitted with improved boilers, steam power for the forward capstan and a new poop deck to accommodate an Admiral.  On completion in 1875 she became part of the First Reserve Fleet where she was to remain until paying at Portsmouth on 31 May 1883.
After periods as a depot ship and part of HMS VERNON she was paid off in 1924. She was then converted for use as a floating oil jetty and in 1929 was towed to Pembroke Dock where she was to remain for the next 50 years. In 1967 the campaign to restore WARRIOR started and prominent in this was Sir John Smith who formed the Manifold Trust. A committee chaired by the Duke of Edinburgh met in 1968 to discuss her future and from this emerged the Maritime Trust. When Pembroke Dock closed in 1978 the Manifold Trust agreed to underwrite the cost of restoration and the ship was handed over to the Maritime Trust in 1979.
In 1983 ownership was transferred to the Ship’s Preservation Trust which became the Warrior Preservation Trust in 1983. Although the hull was very sound the rest of the ship was in a poor state. The task which was part restoration and part re-building needed vast resources not only of money (£8M) but also of skill, patience and endurance. The 8 year restoration programme at Hartlepool transformed her into one of the world’s most important historic warships and in 1987 she returned to Portsmouth where she is now moored in the Historic Dockyard.
A planned preservation programme is in place for the ship and over the years she has been dry-docked twice, and the upper deck, (£725K provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund), all three fighting tops and half moons and the stern gallery have been replaced.

Sam-coded: Analyzing the parallels between Destiel and Sam's arcs with his love interests.
PART 1: JESSICA MOORE
FOREWORD & DISCLAIMER
With a fan community as enormous as Supernatural's, it is fair to assume that most, if not everything, stated here has already been pointed out or dissected multiple times before—especially considering the long span of time that the show has aired and the three years thereafter. The goal of this post is not to claim these ideas as my own but rather to compile and expand on them.
I also want to add that regarding Jessica, specifically, the canon facts about her are incredibly limited what with her only "real" appearance being at the Pilot episode (though she is referenced and alluded to in multiple episodes all throughout).
That said, she had a critical role in shaping Sam's goals, with emphasis on earlier seasons' Sam's development so it felt fitting to start this series off with her.
There are many instances that the fandom has pointed out cinematic parallels between Sam and Jessica & Dean and Castiel. In this post, I would be elaborating on all of the key points I have found, namely: 1. The scripted meeting, 2. Grieving a lover, and other random findings.
1. IN THE BEGINNING (WITH REGARDS TO GOD'S PLAN)
To start, both Sam/Jess and Dean/Cas were fated to meet to serve a higher narrative purpose.
Frankly, I think that is fucking beautiful, but not only that; it can be argued that, if we were to speculate that Sam met Jessica right after he ran away from Dean and John, then Jessica and Castiel did the same thing. They pulled their respective Winchester brother out of hell/a dark place. (That may just be me talking out of my ass, but it's such a poetic concept, isn't it?)
Most importantly though, both parties were doomed by the narrative, but in polar opposite ways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 5x20)
Sam was destined to love and then lose Jessica for two reasons: to start the story, and to make Sam go down the "dark" path i.e. adjacent to Lucifer, demon blood, evil. Their story was scripted from the get-go, even before Supernatural decided to go metatextual with God.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 15x17)
On the other hand, Dean and Castiel were never meant to be anything more. God himself says that Castiel was supposed to continue obeying heaven, do what he was told, and it is one of (if not the one) that completely separated the Supernatural storyline from any of Chuck's other drafts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs from 15x18 and 15x19)
Furthermore, Castiel's love for Dean and Dean's loss of him marks the end of the story and makes Dean defy the role that God made for him. Admittedly, it's a flawed parallel, as Dean has already moved on from being Michael's Sword and the Righteous Man. To that, I say it only further proves the point; their unscripted "profound bond" directly opposed God's word. It was what should have broken the cycle.
And still, both ended in tragedy. It's just that one was written to end that way and the other wrote itself.
2. THE WINCHESTER BROTHERS ON GRIEF
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs are from 1x01 and 12x23)
This segment can't start any other way than with these iconic shots of the Winchesters holding their brother back from running towards the love of their life (as the lover, in question, dies/walks to their death). These shots are the very reason I started this whole analysis, and they speak for themselves.
Even their clothes are inverted here, because Sam and Dean are experiencing the exact same thing. The grief, pain, and helplessness that comes with losing a partner.
(While compiling these, I stumbled upon the eerie realization that the shots attached above and the ones below have swapped color palettes in a way? Granted, that may just be some editing thing. Technology and video quality aside though, you can't deny that the vibrance of the fire vs. the bleakness of Apocalypse World juxtapose aesthetically well with the shots below. Just another one of those, "is it intentional or did Supernatural just run out of options from the sheer breadth of it?")
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
This parallel in particular is what makes me believe that Supernatural either has amazing writing or just a terrible retention for continuity and reflection. Because, again, Sam and Dean are going through the same damn thing here: guilt. Specifically, the guilt of their lover's death—how both had reasons to believe they could've prevented it.
Also, these are cinematically shot the same way: Jessica and Castiel by the road, a deadpan stare at the Impala as the brothers drive by, then disappearing from sight at a second glance. How else are we to take this other than Dean grieving a lover the same way Sam grieved for his girlfriend? Did they just forget this scene from 1x05 when they filmed 8x07? (Most likely, yeah, but that doesn't disprove its contribution to the narrative.)
The premise is also similar, damningly so, the only notable difference being the formatting, with season 1's monster-of-the-week almost-standalones and season 8's continuous, over-arcing conflict with hell and the tablets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
At the very core, though, is Sam and Dean with their, "I could have—" statements. Sam had visions about Jessica dying, he could have warned her. Dean had Castiel right there at the portal to exit Purgatory, he could have pulled him out. It is that guilt they must carry around and that burden they must bear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
They even give one another the same damn pep talk. Dean saw that Jessica's death was slowly killing Sam, the same way Sam saw that Dean's return from Purgatory without Castiel was tearing Dean apart.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
Lastly, here are the verbal acknowledgements of their grief. Because hey, who am I to try to explain subtext and nonverbatim connections.
2.1. TO BE JOHN WINCHESTER'S SON
In this segment, I would like to point out two of the instances that Sam and Dean accepted being compared to John Winchester, both in regards to losing Jessica and Castiel respectively.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x20)
Again, this is what the story was all about. Sam and John could or at least find solidarity in this, as was intended for the plot. (They even mirror God and Lucifer here, which is an entirely different can of worms I am not opening today.)
Keep in mind, Sam's always hated how John raised them, but it is evident that he found some comfort with John given their undeniably specific situations.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 13x04 I talked a little more about this arc here)
Sam openly calls Dean out on his John-esque behavior; an irony in itself given that the brothers have long since established that Sam was the one who resembled John the most whereas Dean was always, "yes, sir!" until the very end.
In this very same arc, there is a concerning increase Dean's alcohol consumption—and the use of alcohol as a coping mechanism in itself, rather than the leisurely treat it recurringly was in the show—which are telling signs for the headspace Dean was in.
They both lashed out in John Winchester ways they've internalized over the years growing up. Sam went down the path of self-destructive revenge-seeking, while Dean lashed out by rejecting being a father role to Jack, becoming the "drill sergeant," instead. These traits were what hurt them as children and were the crux of John's grief over Mary's murder. Round and round the cycle goes.
2.2. TO BE LUCIFER'S VICTIM
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs from 5x03 (a) and (b))
Again, another iconic parallel considering Lucifer's go-to trick to getting what he wants was to pose as the person his victims want the most. Another example of this exact same scenario is when Lucifer appears to rock star Vince Vicente as his dead girlfriend (and Vince ended up saying yes.)
In the earlier seasons, the most obvious choice for Sam was of course Jessica, as Lucifer was desperate to get ahold of Sam as a vessel. That was narratively sound, right? Even though 5 seasons (so about 5 years in canon) have passed since Jessica died, Sam hadn't forgotten her and she remained his greatest weakness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs from 15x19)
Then on the flip side, during a time the story's well past the Script and God's most definitely free-styling, Lucifer appears again—and it is on God's orders. The devil chose Dean's weakness (Castiel) to blindside him, so Dean ends up running on emotions instead of questioning it.
This happened right after the episode Castiel confessed, and before the episode that Should Not Be Named... That also speaks for itself, doesn't it? Insane, absolute insanity to me.
3. MISCELLANEOUS: SYMBOLISMS & OTHER COINCIDENCES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x01 and 14x12)
This is where I might be reaching, but it's a small observation I noticed while bingeing the Pilot episode. Of course, at the time, production likely didn't even put much thought into Jessica's costume, but it's a funny thing to point out all the same. (I screamed a little about Cas' healer motifs here in comparison to Cesar/Jesse if you're interested.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x01 and 10x09)
They both have the same Look when their boyfriend is talking down on himself, I can't even make this shit up.
+ I'm so frickin' tired I cannot look for screenshots anymore but Jessica's cookies plus Castiel's "you don't understand, I need pie," moment in the convenience store resonate with me.
+ Might edit and add more to this later, for now I sleepge.

Text
To put into perspective just how forced the whole JohnZee pairing has been for the last few years, Zatanna met John 5 times in the pre-reboot continuity. That's 5 out of the 379 times she has appeared in comics before the Pre Nu 52 debut of Justice League Dark. Similarly John's Hellblazer lasted for 300 issues with his own supporting cast and love interests and Zatanna only appeared once in it.
(Yes, there was a divide between Vertigo and DC at the time but Zatanna was one of the few characters who famously flaunted the line)
Swamp Thing #49-50: this is where we first find out that these characters knew each other as John tries to recruit Zatara and Zatanna for the magical seance. Note that there is an element of manipulation involved in all of John's interactions with everyone in this issue. John was also a new character at the time and Zatanna was a very established character. Moore can be a perv so it's not surprising that he made their relationship sexual. He also basically ended the pairing with John Zatara's death and Zatanna blaming John for it. Although they were established as collegues, we got fans and writers today who think Zatanna should be a novice who needs John to lead her around and tell her where to aim her powers.
Books of Magic: In which we learn that John hasn't met Zatanna at all since the traumatic seance but feels he can just waltz in and ask her to babysit a kid for him. The writer likes him so of course it works and she hugs and kisses him, which felt so very jarring. Books of Magic is a book I enjoy except for the Zatanna scenes (and Spectres). Then we had Zee acting like a complete idiot who endangers Tim Hunter and needed to be saved by John Constantine. Really jarring when you see her appearances in JLA comics around the time where she was a powerful magician whose kicking ass. ( Yet, this one comic would decades later set the pace for her characterization in JLD as this novice with a lot of power except for when John needs to shine. ) We would later get a follow up to this in a dream sequence in the 1991 Zatanna mini series by Lee Mars but that too had a scene where Zatanna went 'oh no, I'm not as good John' which makes no sense since she has been involved in magic her whole life.
Hellblazer Vol 1 #63: Zatanna's only appearance in the title at John's 40th birthday party. I don't have any objections to this one. Zee getting high at a party with a floating joint is hilarious.
Totems mini series: A brief appearance where she turns down his offer for sex and even goes 'reven niaga'.
Zatanna Everyday Magic: I like this one. As it deals with things from her perspective. She is the one who saves him and very subtly we see her shed any resentment she may have for John but is not hung up on him. She has her own life and her own love interests, even has casual sex with them.
So we have a pairing that cratered and halfway buried, only for an ill thought out reboot to drag it back up and heavily retconning both character's respective histories to make it work. Like introducing Nick Necro and treating the seance like Zee's origin story instead of Zatanna's Search. Ignoring any aspect of her that's not related to John, like all her relationships with the JL members (except Batman) don't matter anymore even though they played important roles in her life as well. Yet, John gets to keep most of his history and supporting cast and even get several shots at an ongoing. Zee ends up being treated as less smart, less competent and daresay even less sexy, whenever the JohnZee pairing comes to the forefront. The seeds were there since even their second meeting.
I don't see why this pairing needs to be treated as something so sacrosanct that the characters aren't allowed to grow past it. It's definitely not an earned relationship that's up there with Clark/Lois, BatCat, WallyLinda or BarryIris. It's only post nu52 that writers can't seem to go two pages without mentioning the pairing whenever Zee shows up. And I hate the fact that it's lead to Zee developing a reputation as a woman with a bad body fetish. Yet another aspect of the character they had to twist to make the pairing work.
It's not just that Zee deserves better, it just plain doesn't make sense. Even on it's own, it's a constant merry go round 'oh John, you are lying to me, I can't trust you/John, you lied to me, I trusted you. Everyone in JLD gets this but Zatanna gets it the worst.
Also, Zatanna didn't 'choose him', they were apart then the reboot happened and DC went 'well, lets pretend these two are an angsty couple who can't quit each other, forget anything that might contradict this narrative'.
To drive the point home; compare Zee's last appearance in 2022 in JLD as team leader where she was shown to be reckless and dumb leader who endangered her team for no reason and refused to take responsibility (of course John comes out looking good). To her later appearances in Batgirl and the excellent Knight Terrors crossover team up with Robot Man.
Once she is away from John, she goes back to being her fun, competent, bad ass, sexy self.
Side note: Can we also go back to a time when Zatanna, Phantom Strnager, Spectre and Dr Fate were bad asses and not chumps so John Constantine can look cool as he pulls out a vaguely defined spelled from his ass? I saw scans from a comic recently where he got the drop on freakin' Waverider recently.

9 Terrifying American Murder Houses
From Amityville Horror to Jeffrey Dahmer’s one-bedroom, these murder houses are home to some truly brutal murders.
9. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR HOUSE 112 OCEAN AVE, AMITYVILLE, NY
When the deal is too good, start asking questions. In 1975, George and Kathy Lutz bought this sprawling Dutch Colonial on the south shore of Long Island at a bargain rate. The reason for the discounted price tag? Just 13 months earlier, previous resident Ronald “Butch” DeFeo slaughtered his parents and four younger siblings while they slept in their beds. It didn’t take long for the weirdness to begin. Demonic voices, oozing walls, cloven hoof prints in the snow. The Lutz family lasted just two months before fleeing 112 Ocean Avenue in the night.
8. THE HEX MURDER HOUSE REHMEYERS HOLLOW RD, SHREWSBURY, PA
In 1928, John Blymire was convinced a reclusive neighbor named Nelson Rehmeyer had put a hex upon him. Believing the only way to break the curse was to track down Rehmeyer’s spell book and set it ablaze, Blymire rallied two buddies for a late-night visit. While the gang never found the book, they did find Rehmeyer whom they murdered and mutilated before setting his body on fire. In 2007, an effort was made to open the Hex House to the public, but the plan was eventually scrapped.
7. MOORE FAMILY AXE MURDER HOUSE 508 E 2ND ST, VILLISCA, IA
On a cool summer night in 1912 someone broke into this peaceful Iowa homestead and bludgeoned all six family members plus two houseguests with an axe. The horrific scene was discovered the following morning by a concerned neighbor. Numerous suspects were named in the case including a traveling minister and State Senator Frank F. Jones. Nevertheless, the murder remains unsolved.
6. KREISCHER MANSION 4500 ARTHUR KILL RD, STATEN ISLAND, NY
German entrepreneur Balthasar Kreischer built this sprawling mansion in 1885 as a symbol of his success in the brick making business. The good times were short-lived. By 1894, his company had crumbled and his youngest son had shot himself in the head. The decaying mansion sat empty for years until its groundskeeper used the property for a mob hit in 2005. Joseph Young strangled and stabbed his target before finally drowning the man in a garden pool. Young then hacked up the body and burned it in the mansion’s incinerator.
5. LIZZIE BORDEN HOUSE 230 2ND ST, FALL RIVER, MA
On August 4, 1892 Andrew Borden was thrashed with a hatchet while he dozed on the couch of his parlor. Andrew’s second wife Abby met an equally grisly end in the upstairs bedroom. While everyone in Fall River suspected daughter Lizzie of the crime, the local judge remained unconvinced. She was tried and acquitted of the murder one year later. Oddly, the home is now a successful bed & breakfast.
4. MANSON FAMILY MURDER HOUSE 10050 CIELO DRIVE, LOS ANGELES, CA
In 1969, members of the Manson Family shocked the nation when they broke into this L.A. estate and slaughtered Sharon Tate along with four other victims. The murderers wrote pig in blood across the front door. Numerous residents have since called 10050 Cielo Drive home including musician Trent Reznor, who recorded THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL there. In 1994, the original structure was razed and replaced with a new mansion, currently occupied by the creator of FULL HOUSE.
3. JEFFREY DAHMER’S APARTMENT 924 NORTH 25TH ST, APT 213, MILWAUKEE, WI
Cannibal killer Jeffrey Dahmer lured numerous victims to his nondescript one-bedroom, where he drugged and dismembered them in a brutal campaign of murder. Severed limbs were packed in the freezer for future consumption; torsos were dumped in a vat of acid. Police finally arrested Dahmer in 1991 after one of his prisoners managed to escape. The entire apartment building was torn down shortly thereafter.
2. JOHN WAYNE GACY’S HOUSE 8213 SUMMERDALE AVE, CHICAGO, IL
It’s always good to know your neighbors especially if you suspect them of murder. John Wayne Gacy buried dozens of bodies in the basement and backyard of his suburban home while neighbors casually went about their day. When Gacy’s wife complained of a putrid smell, Gacy blamed it on dead mice. By the time police nabbed the infamous killer clown and excavated his 8213 Summerdale Ave property, they uncovered 29 bodies.
1. GARDETTE-LAPRETE HOUSE 1240 BURGUNDY ST, NEW ORLEANS, LA
In the late 1830s, plantation owner Jean LePrete leased his French Quarter Greek Revival to a mysterious man from Turkey. The renter, known only as The Sultan had more than a few roommates. He arrived with a massive entourage of eunuchs and concubines. The house quickly became known for its lavish parties, with music and revelry carrying on into the night. One morning, a passerby noticed 1240 Burgundy was eerily quiet. Then he spotted blood seeping out of the door. When authorities entered, they found everyone inside had been murdered and dismembered. As for The Sultan? He was buried alive in the courtyard. To this day, the case remains unsolved.

On 13th May 1685 James Kirk was executed near Dumfries as a Covenanter refusing to swear the oath.
James Kirk , also spelt Kirko, was one of two elders present with Rev John Guthrie of Stirling, who made a petition to Charles II on his restoration in 1660. The second elder, Andrew Hay of Craignethan, escaped , but Kirk and Guthrie were imprisoned for several months.
Kirk was suspected of taking part in the Pentland Rising and at Rullion Green in 1666. He was much vexed by the military and for three years he left the country to escape them. His house was a well used resting place by the coventicling ministers Blackadder, Welsh and Semple. He became an intercommuned person forced to wander in the moors and hills for nearly twenty years.
He was betrayed by an informer and shot on the Whitesands, Dumfries for refusing to take the Abjuration Oath. The story is that he asked for more time to make his peace with God but Captain Andrew Bruce, his captor, rebuked him thus ” Devil a peace ye get more made up “, and had him shot on the spot. There is a modern memorial on the Whitesands, Dumfries, next the river, with a St Andrews cross of stones set in the pavement.
James Kirk(o) was one of the last of the wave of deaths of the “Killing Time”.

Threshold of Darkness
Ever since I started rewatching Apocalypse, my fic-writer brain seems to have woken up from it's very long coma and now I have the urge to write all the things. And I want to. So I did. But I'm also nervous, because I haven't written for pleasure in 15 years. So I'm posting this before I get cold feet. So #yolo I guess.
Pairing: Michael Langdon/Reader | Michael Langdon & Cordelia Goode
Summary: One month into his tenure at the Hawthorne School for Exceptional Young Men, Michael Langdon's extraordinary powers capture the attention of John Henry Moore, who senses a disturbing depth to Michael's abilities that goes beyond normal warlock prowess. Concerned, John Henry reaches out to Cordelia, before Ariel can push for Michael to undertake the test of the Seven Wonders. In response, Cordelia brings Michael to Miss Robichaux's Academy, aiming to better understand and guide his potent abilities. Under her watchful eye, Michael begins to explore the extents of his powers, but as they dig deeper, the line between control and chaos blurs.
Tumblr media
John Henry Moore was chilled.
It wasn’t a physical chill - not with the fire that was currently blazing behind the blonde boy currently seated in front of them. No, it was a chill in his bones. An overwhelming sense of wrongness - of danger.
He’d been chilled since he’d seen that video more than a month ago - heard the snapping of that man’s bones, his stark plea of "help me" before his head exploded. He suppressed a shudder. No, it wasn’t a physical chill. Ariel believed that the boy, Michael Langdon, was a warlock - a powerful one. John Henry wasn’t so sure. He’d never seen power like that in a warlock.
And now, Michael sat before them, ready to be evaluated. John Henry thought it was a mistake, and had said as much, but he might as well have been talking to a wall.
“Now that you've had time to settle,” Ariel said to his right, “and you've immersed yourself in the study of magic here at the coven, it's time to evaluate and see where you stand.”
Though his pleas for prudence - a little circumspection - had gone unheeded so far, he gave it one last shot. “Normally,” he said pointedly, “this would happen at the end of the first year.”
Michael’s brow furrowed slightly. “I’ve only been here a month.” As he had since he arrived, in every interaction John Henry had had with him, he spoke softly - calmly. No indication of the raw, dark power that had been so evident in that cell.
It was Behold who answered him, obviously just as keen as Ariel was for this boy to help them take their rightful place. “Well, seeing your progress, we feel justified in accelerating the process.”
He suppressed a scoff, and as Ariel explained the test, and his ridiculous theory about the Alpha warlock, he mulled over his own concerns, and the deep sense of foreboding that had settled over him. Though he knew the boy had power, he wasn’t convinced that it was anything like the powers they knew. Maybe he wouldn’t even be able to pass these tests. He hoped he couldn’t.
Scrying was first, and his hope sputtered out almost instantly as Michael not only pulled the name of the book he was looking for directly from Baldwin’s mind, but pulled it just as easily from the mirror itself. Disturbing.
Behold called it impressive, but he called it what it was. “Troubling.” At this, the smile dropped from Michael’s face.
Next was transmutation - salire per spatium - and again, Michael seemed to have no trouble. John Henry’s unease ratcheted up another notch as Michael’s voice drifted down from where he was clinging to the ceiling like something out of a horror movie. “You want me to dust up here.”
When Ariel had first shown him that horrible video of Michael’s powers, he’d said “demonic possession” and the others had scoffed, desperate for their Alpha warlock who would help them to supplant the Supreme and take their rightful place. Maybe now they would see that something was very, very wrong here.
But no.
Last was stiricidium -  the ability to manipulate the weather through water molecules present in the atmosphere. As he explained the concept, John Henry couldn’t help but notice the first traces of uncertainty on the boys face. Slowly, he moved to stand, deep in thought, his fingers going to his mouth in a nervous gesture. After a moments thought, he raised one hand, fingers moving fluidly and gracefully despite his obvious nerves.
And then the first flakes of snow began to form. He raised his other arm then, calling the snow to fall and a boyish, exultant smile to break over his face.
The others began to chuckle next to him, exclaiming their wonder, but all John Henry could feel was unease. They didn’t notice the boy go rigid - his eyes roll back into his head leaving only the whites exposed. But John Henry did, only a moment before Michael flung his arms to the side and sapped every ounce of heat from the room, killing the fire instantly. The room had gone dark, and their breath billowed in white clouds in front of them. Michael seemed to be in a trance - rigid, arms outstretched, trembling.
Ariel’s sudden cry of “ENOUGH!” seemed to shatter the hold of whatever was happening, and Michael’s eyes snapped open, blood pouring from his nose. He didn’t drop his arms.
No one spoke. No one moved. No one breathed.
Until Michael brought his fingers to his face, gingerly feeling the blood there as it dripped over his lips. He looked shaken. Distraught.
His voice cracked and wavered as he spoke then, brow furrowed and eyes shining - “I’m sorry.” It came out almost like a gasp. “I didn’t know that was inside me.” He doubled over slightly, breathing deeply and still trembling.
Ariel, blind to whatever distress the boy was feeling, just walked over and placed a hand on his cheek, not even bothering to hide his excitement.
“You're testing your wings. Once you're fully in control of your powers you'll have the confidence to soar.”
Michael still hadn’t dropped his hand from his where it had touched at the blood at his nose, and Ariel’s words didn’t seem to comfort him at all. Briefly, he locked eyes with John Henry, and whatever he saw there must have given him pause, because he gave himself a little shake and re-focused on Ariel as he said, “Thank you for your spirited participation Michael. You’ve given us a lot to consider.”
The other warlocks swiftly left the room, leaving Michael there, still trembling and looking for all the world like a lost and frightened little boy - not someone who, mere moments ago, had nearly killed them.
Ariel was right. This had given them a lot to consider. John Henry considered leaving the warlocks to their delusion that Michael was the Alpha warlock - considered letting things play out as Ariel saw fit. But no. He’d been correct in his initial assessment.- Michael’s power, as great as it may be, was too dark and volatile. He was dangerous, and the other warlocks were too blinded by their own ambitions to see it. Too eager to take what they thought was their rightful place. Too eager to usurp the Supreme.
No. He couldn’t leave Michael in the care of these power-hungry idiots. There was something more at play here - Michael was more than just a powerful warlock.
As he strode purposefully towards his office, he thought back to the way Michael’s eyes had rolled backwards in his head, how his body had gone stiff. Maybe demonic possession wasn’t that outlandish of a theory. When had come back to himself, he had looked genuinely afraid.
Either way, the warlocks were not capable of handling this correctly. Before he could second-guess himself, he fired off an email to the only person who could.
The Supreme.

Time to vote for the next villain! Bet you didn’t know I read comics! Or maybe you did because I make fun of Ennis and Millar a lot, and poke fun at Moore frequently. Here’s some weird-ass comic villains I could talk about and also some Ennis and Moore villains I can rant about!
1. A child-eating monster from a horror comic. Pretty straight forward, very fucked up.
2. A racist yellow peril villain that DC keeps bringing back. He started as a giant yellow egg with a prehensile mustache and got worse from there.
3. Fat spineless alien TV show host who likes to harass the X-Men and who desperately needs to be in a movie.
4. The ineffectual satanist sorcerer who tried to make Harry Potter the antichrist. Moore’s stand in for Aleister Crowley.
5. Ancient bacteria colony who invented racism against Mutants.
6. Distant relative of that Other Doom. He is a dentist who wishes to conquer the tri-state area.
7. An anime pastiche demonic one-shot villain that Ghost Rider fought. Has caused much debate between dorks online.
8. The most major antagonist in Preacher, and one of the biggest butt monkeys in comic book history.
9. The ultimate villain of Preacher. Something tells me Garth Ennis isn’t a fan of religion!
10. Hey you know how Ennis loves the Punisher and vigilantism and guns? What if he rolled all of that love into an anti-heroic God-mode Gary Stu who reads like a six year old’s idea of a cool character?

Monopods
Monopods (also called sciapods, skiapods, skiapodes) were mythological dwarf-like creatures with a single, large foot extending from a leg centred in the middle of their bodies. The names monopod and skiapod (σκιάποδες) are both Greek, respectively meaning "one-foot" and "shadow-foot".
Tumblr media
Monopods appear in Aristophanes' play The Birds, first performed in 414 BC. They are described by Pliny the Elder in his Natural History, where he reports travelers' stories from encounters or sightings of Monopods in India. Pliny remarks that they are first mentioned by Ctesias in his book Indika, a record of the view of Persians of India which only remains in fragments. Pliny describes Monopods like this:
He [Ctesias] speaks also of another race of men, who are known as Monocoli, who have only one leg, but are able to leap with surprising agility. The same people are also called Sciapodae, because they are in the habit of lying on their backs, during the time of the extreme heat, and protect themselves from the sun by the shade of their feet.
Philostratus mentions Skiapodes in his Life of Apollonius of Tyana, which was cited by Eusebius in his Treatise Against Hierocles. Apollonius of Tyana believes the Skiapodes live in India and Ethiopia, and asks the Indian sage Iarkhas about their existence.
St. Augustine (354–430) mentions the "Skiopodes" in The City of God, Book 16, Chapter 8 entitled "Whether Certain Monstrous Races of Men Are Derived From the Stock of Adam or Noah's Sons", and mentions that it is uncertain whether such creatures exist.
Reference to the legend continued into the Middle Ages, for example with Isidore of Seville in his Etymologiae, where he writes:
The race of Sciopodes are said to live in Ethiopia; they have only one leg, and are wonderfully speedy. The Greeks call them σκιαπόδες ("shade-footed ones") because when it is hot they lie on their backs on the ground and are shaded by the great size of their foot.
The Hereford Mappa Mundi, drawn c. 1300, shows a sciapod on one side of the world, as does a world map drawn by Beatus of Liébana (c. 730 – c. 800).
A race of the "One-Legged",or the "Uniped" was allegedly encountered by Thorfinn Karlsefni and his group of Icelandic settlers in North America in the early 11th century, according to the Saga of Erik the Red. The presence of "unipedes maritimi" in Greenland was marked on Claudius Clavus's map dated 1427.
According to the saga, Karlsefni Thorvald Eiriksson and others assembled a search party for Thorhall, and sailed around Kjalarnes and then south. After sailing for a long time, while moored on the south side of a west-flowing river, they were shot at by a one-footed man (einfœtingr), and Thorvald died from an arrow wound.
The saga goes on to relate that the party went northward and approached what they guessed to be Einfœtingaland ("Land of the One-Legged" or "Country of the Unipeds").
According to Carl A. P. Ruck, the Monopods's cited existence in India refers to the Vedic Aja Ekapad ("Not-born Single-foot"), an epithet for Soma. Since Soma is a botanical deity the single foot would represent the stem of an entheogenic plant or fungus.
John of Marignolli (1338–1353) provides another explanation of these creatures. Quote from his travels from India:
The truth is that no such people do exist as nations, though there may be an individual monster here and there. Nor is there any people at all such as has been invented, who have but one foot which they use to shade themselves withal. But as all the Indians commonly go naked, they are in the habit of carrying a thing like a little tent-roof on a cane handle, which they open out at will as a protection against sun or rain. This they call a chatyr; I brought one to Florence with me. And this it is which the poets have converted into a foot.

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more …
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1939 – Bette Bourne, born Peter Bourne, is a British actor, drag queen and equal rights activist.
Born Peter Bourne in Hackney, east London, he made his stage debut at the age of four as one of the members of Madame Behenna and her Dancing Children. Encouraged to take part in amateur dramatics by his mother, he chose a career in the theatre at 16, working backstage at the Garrick Theatre, London.
He studied drama at Central School of Speech and Drama in London and went on to act on stage and on television throughout the 1960s. He appeared in TV series such as The Avengers and The Prisoner, and in 1969, he appeared alongside Sir Ian McKellen in a touring double bill of Christopher Marlowe's Edward II and Shakespeare's Richard II.
In the 1970s, he put his acting career on hold to become an activist with the Gay Liberation Front, becoming part of a gay commune in London. It was during this period that he started wearing drag and changed his name to "Bette".
In 1976, he joined the New York-based gay cabaret group, the Hot Peaches, performing with them in Europe, culminating in a show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. When this group went back to New York, Bourne formed his own troupe, Bloolips. Featuring songs such as Let's Scream Our Tits Off, the shows were mostly written by playwright John Taylor with titles like Lust in Space and The Ugly Duckling. He toured the UK and the rest of Europe throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, winning an Obie Award (Off Broadway Theater Award) for the New York production of Lust in Space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1972– Matthew Rush is a bi-racial American gay pornographic film actor, magazine model, and a bodybuilder and personal trainer. He has competed at the Gay Games in Amsterdam and Sydney, Australia.
Rush was under a lifetime exclusive pornographic career contract with Falcon Studios that ended in 2009 so he could pursue other projects in the pornographic industry. His first post-Falcon project was a pornographic video and photo shoot with photographer Jon Royce on January 22, 2009.
Rush is a powerful top in many of his film roles, but he can also perform as a vocal bottom. His first post-Falcon porn shoot was with Pantheon Productions in San Francisco on January 23, 2009. In the film, titled Brief Encounters (Real Men, Vol. 17), Rush played a nasty son that "flip-flopped" with hairy daddy Tim Kelly. Rush's career was revitalized when he joined the website MenOver30.com in 2009. His easy going attitude and versatility has resulted with him receiving the 2010 Grabby Award and GayVN Award in the category "Best Versatile Performer".
Rush has appeared in the TV detective film Third Man Out, starring Chad Allen, and in the motion picture Another Gay Movie. From 2002 to 2005, he acted in a traveling stage production of Ronnie Larsen's Making Porn.
His retirement from the pornographic industry, announced in October 2011, was short lived when he returned to making pornographic films in January 2012.

1975 – On this date Oliver Sipple saved President Gerald Ford's life.
Sara Jane Moore attempted to assassinate U.S. President Gerald Ford outside the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, just seventeen days after Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme had also tried to kill the president. Moore was 40 feet away from Ford when she fired a single shot at him. The bullet missed the President because bystander Oliver Sipple grabbed Moore's arm and then pulled her to the ground, using his hand to keep the gun from firing a second time. Sipple said at the time: "I saw [her gun] pointed out there and I grabbed for it. I lunged and grabbed the woman's arm and the gun went off."
Sipple, a decorated Marine and Vietnam War veteran, was immediately commended by the police and the Secret Service for his action at the scene. The news media portrayed Sipple as a hero. Though he was known to be Gay by various fellow members of the Gay community, Sipple had not made this public, and his sexual orientation was a secret from his family. He requested the press did not report this. Several days later Herb Caen, a columnist at The San Francisco Chronicle, exposed Sipple as a Gay man and a friend of Harvey Milk.

Postcards from Snagglepuss
Now THIS is snorkelling, and then some!
LIMEHOUSE BAY, VIRGIN ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK, ST. JOHN, US VIRGIN ISLANDS: Is it any wonder that the United States Virgin Islands can get to be rather interesting diving country, even in parts of Virgin Islands National Park, occupying as it does a substantial part of St. John island (including some 40% of St. John's offshore waters, nearshore even)?
Yet what's especially fascinating is that, save for mooring fees at designated locations, Virgin Islands National Park is one of only a few National Park Service lands as doesn't charge entrance fee. Which made it especially worthwhile, allowing for a shore excursion seeking out the ruins of sugar plantations which once fuelled the local economy--howbeit for the Danish West Indies Company, which relied on slave labour all the more just to stay viable. Brings a tear to your eyes, does it not? Let alone the scent of bay leaves, and their eventually being distilled into bay rum, quite a potent aftershave, if I may say so!
But to the diving experience: You can't help but sense some sort of ecstatic feeling when you're in the water ... when you're snorkelling, even. in such interesting waters like those of Limehouse Bay. A Park Service ranger who has some snorkelling expertise himself helped explain some of the more worthwhile dive spots, and some of the reefs more fascinating--even if he was rather stunned at first by our appearance, as well as learning just how interested Peter Potamus was in diving, to begin with!
Enough even for Squiddly Diddly, the Magic Divers' photographic expert (particularly so in the underwater arena), to come up with several photographs, candid and otherwise, of all of us in the Limehouse Bay reef. Yet trying to find a patch of sand so that a kneeling group shot of us took some effort; after all, from experience, coral can be rather potent, and can scratch if you're not careful enough.
How else, then, could diving not be irresistable?
