Well I'm still studying but I'm in my last year, which means that after I'm graduating I'll be teaching. And I love it so far, even though it's not a well paying job. It's really rewarding in the terms of how the day is (kids give a lot of love each day and giving it back to them is a really nic feeling) but it does need a lot of work and planning, even more than you'r think happens!

Rn I'm working in a Pepco to make ends meet, but that isn't half bad either. Still waiting for next year for me to work in a kindergarten tho.

The owner of Poundland has agreed to take on the leases of dozens of Wilko shops.

Pepco Group, which owns Poundland in the UK, is expected to convert up to 71 Wilko stores to the Poundland brand.

Poundland boss Barry Williams said it recognised the last few weeks had been difficult for Wilko workers.

In a statement, the company said that Wilko staff would have priority when applying for new jobs at the Poundland shops.

Wilko fell into administration in August as it struggled with sharp losses and a cash shortage.

It was founded in 1930 and by the 1990s became one of Britain’s fastest-growing retailers.

But the discount chain has faced strong competition from competitors including B&M, Poundland and Home Bargains, as the high cost of living has pushed shoppers to seek out bargains.

The first shop closures are taking place on Tuesday after administrators PwC failed to find a buyer for the bulk of the business.

Mr Williams, the managing director of Poundland, said the company it would work quickly with landlords in the coming weeks to get its new shops open once the administration process is wound up.

It said that the announcement would mark some “positive news for customers and those high streets that faced the loss of an important retailer”.

Rival B&M has also agreed to buy 51 of Wilko’s buildings in a £13m deal, but it is understood the stores will not be run under the Wilko brand.

The 71 shops included in the deal with Pepco and the 51 stores taken on by B&M currently employ about 3,200 Wilko workers.

In a statement, the Poundland owner said that it expected the rebranded shops to open in the last few months of this year, although workers will not be transferred directly.

The deal will see the sites added to its 800 existing shops in the UK. The 71 store locations are:

Aberdare, Alfreton, Alnwick, Altrincham, Ammanford, Ashby, Barking, Bedminster, Beeston, Bicester, Bishop Stortford, Bletchley, Bolton, Brentwood, Brigg, Cambridge, Chepstow, Coalville, Cramlington, Droitwich, Eccles, Edmonton Green, Ellesmere Port, Ferndown, Gateshead, Grays, Greenock, Grimsby, Havant, Hayes, Headingley, Hessle Road – Hull, Hillsborough, Hitchin, Jarrow, Killingworth, Kimberley, Lee Circle, Leek, Leigh, Lichfield, Maidenhead, Matlock, Melton Mowbray, Nelson, Northallerton, Orton, Pembroke Dock, Peterlee, Pontefract, Pontypool, Redhill, Redruth, Ripley, Rugeley, Sale, Seaham, Selly Oak, Shrewsbury Darwin Centre, South Shields, Southport, Stafford, Stamford, Stockport, Thornaby, Wellington, Wembley, West Ealing, Wombwell, Worcester and Worksop, where Wilko’s head office is located.

Pepco Group also owns other discount retailers, such as Dealz in Ireland and Poland.

It comes after administrators confirmed the group’s remaining shops, warehouse and support centre workers are set to lose their jobs after a rescue bid by Canadian entrepreneur Doug Putman failed.

The billionaire owner of music retailer HMV had been trying to buy at least 100 Wilko shops but the deal fell through as rising costs complicated the deal.

Administrators said that they were confident the Poundland deal would “create a platform for future employment opportunities” for Wilko employees.

Edward Williams, joint administrator at PwC, said: “We will continue to engage with other retailers around any interest in other Wilko sites and are confident of completing a sale of the brand and intellectual property within the coming days.”

Several other retailers and investors have reportedly been in talks with PwC about potentially buying the Wilko brand and website.

i think the only person ive ever wanted to steal from was some lady on tiktok who ordered rare pc’s and showed tiktok and then just resold them at the same or more value. she showed a jungkook pc from a japanese release if i remember correctly and it cost her $400 and when she resold it she made profit?? like HELLO??? apparently that was what the pc collectors would call ‘a steal’ in regards to how much she paid for it.

oooh i just googled pepco apparently they own some big-ish stores here. it sounds p straight forward!! plenty of training videos i imagine 🥲 friends at work are always a good idea but apparently i have what my mother calls a ‘fuck off face’ and... she’s not wrong. not at all. it morphs into disgust easily when i garner unwanted attention. but it’s not intentional anymore i practiced for when i used to walk to school bc i hated people and the randos bc they’re so creepy when i’m clearly in uniform and underage ewwwww blergh 😫

DEALZ OPENS 100TH IRISH STORE AND EYES FURTHER EXPANSION IN 2020

Dealz has opened its 100th store in Ireland and announced its expansion into the Spanish and Polish markets.

The discount chain first entered the Irish market in 2011 with stores in Blanchardstown and Portlaoise and now has 66 stores in the Republic of Ireland.

The company plans to add a further 10 stores in Ireland next year, creating 250 new jobs as part of a €10m investment.

Dealz and Poundland UK & Ireland managing director Barry Williams said: ‘We’ll never forget our roots here in the Republic.

‘We are now looking to further grow for customers here too with 10 new stores over the next financial year. And as we grow, we’ll also look to build our infrastructure here to support that growth.’

Dealz is owned by Pepkor Europ and operates 850 Poundland stores in the UK as well as 1,500 PEPCO stores across central and eastern Europe and a combined 46 Dealz shops in Spain and Poland.

Poundland will trial online home delivery early next year

Poundland is to take its first steps towards selling online early next year, as it pilots its first home delivery service as part of what it’s hailing as the biggest transformation in its history.

  The retailer is to convert one of its three shops in Cannock into an online fulfilment centre. The store will close tomorrow for conversion work to begin.

  The move is part of a wider transformation plan by a retailer that, with 850 shops in the UK and Republic of Ireland, has a presence on most high streets. It plans to operate through three types of shop. Destination shops will offer a full range of products including food, beauty and clothing. Core shops offering a broad range of goods will operate on high streets, while convenience shops will encourage shoppers to pop in to make quick purchases. Existing shops will be refurbished and shop Free wi-fi is to be made available in every shop and Poundland will invest in new back office technology through its Oracle ERP programme. Poundland has not sold online before but the new move chimes with a wider shift online as more people did more of their shopping over the internet during the Covid-19 lockdown.

  Barry Williams, managing director of Poundland, said: “We’re stepping up to support high streets after the impact of the coronavirus by being customer-focused, people-led and tech-enabled. This is the biggest transformation in our history as we look to secure our future for another thirty years.”

  Shops within a shop featuring Poundland’s five-year-old family clothing brand Pep & Co will expand to more than 310 shops, while chilled and frozen food (pictured) will become available in 60 shops. Another yet-to-be revealed shop-in-shop concept will be launched later in the year. The transformation programme, known internally as Project Diamond, is running alongside a strategic shift from a single price retailer to a simple price retailer. Poundland sells three-quarters of its product at £1 but also sells within a range from 50p to £5.

  Commenting on the move, Nigel Frith, senior market analyst at asktraders.com, said the move was a "massive step" for Poundland, and warned that with change comes risk. He said: "What if this doesn’t work? What happens if the chain is going to have to make redundancies or cut jobs as a result of the pandemic? All these questions need to be answered and trialed before they offer a full-time delivery service.

  "Adding to this, Britons on lower incomes rely on cheaper stores such as Poundland, so launching a delivery service is no use if the brand hikes up their prices to not suit customer satisfaction needs. On the other hand, this is a chance for Poundland to make new jobs as they are going to need drivers to deliver the goods, and with the climate we are currently in that is definitely a positive change."

  The first Poundland shop opened in 1990. Today it is part of the Pepco group, which has more than 2,500 shops across Europe including international Poundland shops that trade under the Dealz brand.
