I told myself, I should start posting even unfinished sketches or sketches I never intended to finish. But even with this one, I couldn’t resist the urge to add shading, more colours, etc. Welp, what can you do. Anyway, enjoy Jinpa’s daily suffering

I need more Kuruk and Kyoshi art and stories. More badass Hei Ran in her pre cripple days. Kyoshi doing the air gliders and having kelsangs robes. Kyoshi teaching Aang about her mom and Kelsang. Kuruk and Korra. Does Korra hunt with Kuruks guidance?! Rangi is disgusted with the fire nation when watching Aangs journey with Kyoshi.
Kyoshi giving Rangi a ride on the glider?!?! Goodness.
Give me the goods.

I love Jinpa. Especially the fact he’s like giga ripped. But he was used as a taxi for most of the book.

my companion piece to @softgaycontent ‘s fic “Kyoshi Book 3: Air” for the @kyoshinovelsbigbang this was an amazing challenge that I loved tackling!
The sharp slope of the mountain meets in a pointed spire, cutting through the clouds. Winding paths carved into the rock add to the stunning beauty of the temple, a complex, manmade structure incomprehensibly resting a mile above sea level.
Rangi gasps, one hand releasing from the reins to cover her mouth. Kyoshi and Jinpa had agreed that she should take the best seat in the house for their arrival to the Southern Air Temple, but now a part of Kyoshi regrets putting her up front. She’d really like to see her face right now.

Kyoshi Book 3: Air (Written for the 2022 Kyoshi Big Bang!)
Kyoshi continues her training at the Southern Air Temple, accompanied by Rangi and Jinpa. Not only the next step in her Avatar journey, the Air Nation brings with it memories of her family, and expectations she fears she will be unable to meet.

Light of Rangi: Chapter 21
“I’m hungry,” Atuat said.
If Rangi learned one major lesson in her roughly seventeen years of life so far, it was that your choice of traveling companions was one of the utmost important decisions you could ever make. Forget the Avatars roaming the world with their bending teachers or a student adventuring with their esteemed mentor. Anyone with half a brain of common sense roamed the world with the few select people they didn’t want to strangle with their bare hands mid-journey.
Chapter 21: The Companion

Knight of Swords. Art by Camila Quintana, from The Jasmine Dragon Tarot.
Monk Jinpa is the Knight of Swords. I chose him for this card because he was basically the damage control man/secretary for Kyoshi which makes him a fast thinker and someone driven to succeed. He’s very action oriented and we know he is ambitious because of how young he was and he was still, the head administrator of the Southern Air Temple.
As I mentioned on the sketch post for this one, his Bison Yingyong got attacked by a predator when he was young and lost his left front leg. Didn’t forget to add that this time!

Take on airbending and how it relates to spiritual stuff.
I know Jesa supposedly lost some of her bending because of her choice in becoming a career criminal. And it interfered with the ideals of Air nomads. But so did Zaheer murdering people. I’m thinking the biggest difference would be their own guilt or connection to themselves. Zaheer was sure of himself. Meditated all the time. And centered on what he was doing. Jinpa is shown to be pretty strong but he still strays ideals from the Typical air nomad teachings. Part of being free like the wind I would think is accepting who you are, even if it’s slightly different or way different than who you are “supposed” to be. But maybe Jesa struggled with that. Got her tattoos early and was most likely dedicated to her cultures teachings until she found Hark. I’m sure it confused her and she wasn’t sure of who she was at that point or where she belonged. Like she didn’t know what was right or what she deserved. Almost like what one could consider a struggle of faith. That I think might have been more detrimental to her power.
Zuko lost his power in firebending and had to find it again. Within himself (with some help). Jesa just compensated instead. Dealing with anger and some hidden self hate for who she turned out to be.
Or it was just A rumor and she liked the fans as weapons.
My take.

Not to be dramatic, but I would die for Jinpa.
He’s an air nomad, have a five-legged sky bison that almost suffocated him, a member of the White Lotus, and eternally suffering as Kyoshi’s assistant.
I’d like to see how he became a member of the White Lotus as an air nomad. They have conflicting ideals, and as far as I know, he hasn’t really left the air temples aside from Shadow of Kyoshi.
