Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
⚠️⚠️ATTENTION⚠️⚠️ This is a serious post and I feel the need to talk about so let’s go. This is Ezra Weiz the Voice director (I think that’s the word?) of Miraculous Ladybug. He basically casts all of the lovely voices to the English cast of miraculous. I’m pretty sure everyone by now knows that everything from every script, to episode, to storyboard of season 5 has been leaked. The leaker has NOT ONLY decided to leak all of season 5 BUT HAS ALSO decided to leak all of the miraculous staff INCLUDING winny, Jeremy, Ezra AND the creator Thomas’s phone numbers and possible addresses. It’s one thing to leak a show but to completely dox a whole miraculous cast is wayyyy to far. Whether you like them or not this is NOT okay and will NEVER be justified. It’s plainly wrong. While there’s nothing that we can do it’s important that we are educated on stuff like this. Please do nothing but send love and support to everyone and let’s all hope they are safe and sound.
Watching miraculous awakening after 8 years of everything Thomas Austruc has done that nearly destroys the show felt like a warm hug and a pet in the head by Zag. I quit watching the show because of how out of ideas Thomas clearly was (he took the time between seasons 1 and 2 to gather as many popular fan theories, fanfics and headcanons the fandom created as a way to wait for the next season and added it all to the show, claiming it's all been part of his plan since the very beginning). Now, after almost two years of not even thinking about miraculous, watching this movie was like being reminded of what made me like the show in the first place, only it was better. It feels like Miraculous Awakening was made for the fans who have been there since the very beginning and were tired of waiting for something that would clearly never come. Jeremy put his heart and soul into giving miraculous ladybug the story it deserves
If you’re a fan of animation like me, chances are you know about the “Miraculous” Franchise or at least heard of it. It’s nearly impossible to avoid the series on YouTube or Social Media these days. And whether you like the series or not, I think we can all agree that it’s probably been dragged out, especially for some older fans.
SO, after all this time ZAG made a fresh start with “Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie”. And while I could never really get into the animated series, somehow the movie did peak my interest and I was really surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did!
The Story & Characters
The movie is actually a reboot of this anime inspired story about two teenage superheroes in Paris who are in a Two-Person Love Triangle, which I think is a smart move. Not only so that anyone who’s new to the franchise can watch this, but also because the series has been around for so long and even has several TV specials, starting fresh feels right for a cinematic movie.
The story, while simple and using classic tropes, still has its charm and moments. The action and superhero conflict do feel impressive, but not every emotional moment works as well as it should. I feel like there’s a bit of missed opportunities. They definitely tried to make it more grand and mature, and in a way they succeeded, but this movie could have used slightly better writing.
The Main Duo Marinette/Ladybug and Adrien/ Cat Noir are the heart of this movie, and the most flesh out alongside our Main Villain Hawk Moth. But there are several characters introduced for story-lines that we don’t really see happening. I feel like if they took a few more chances with the story and characters, we could have had a pretty strong film, but what we got does work.
Wonderful Animation
The animation is just beautiful! Some highlights are the action scenes, song sequences and the night scenes when we get to see the Paris. Just seeing this city come to life makes this worth watching. There is something about Paris that translates really well in animated movies in general, and since this is the work of a French animation studio, I’m not surprised that they captured it so well!
A Musical?
This movie is a musical, and I’m kind of conflicted about that. I guess that’s what you get when your director is also a composer. The songs you’ll either love or find ok, and most of the songs sequences are great and fun to watch, even if the change of voice actors can be distracting. On the other hand, maybe if it hadn’t been a musical, they could have focussed more on the story and character development while making this. It’s a nice musical, but it didn’t have to be.
Final Thoughts
This one really exceeded my expectations! What could have easily been made just to please fans, turned out to be something that had a lot more effort put into it than needed to. This movie does manage to do its own thing and have its own identity. It’s not as great as it could have been… but still a charming film with a decent story, nice songs and great animation.
If anything, it shows that ZAG Entertainment can pull off a movie production. And if their movies continue to show this much potential, I’ll be happy to watch them each time.
THE MIRACULOUS FILM turns out movie screening is complete and long running time is 2 hours 45 mins and to be continued HINTING and I think it was confirmed another film coming.
ZAG I WANT A TRAILER NOW DAMMIT 😭😭 while we are waiting for the rest of S5
