Who is Jennie?

Jennie, a refined woman with a captivating, endearing personality and immense charisma off-stage, as well as a sleek and forceful image on stage. BLACKPINK's main rapper and lead singer. She was born in Anyang, South Korea, in the province of Gyeonggi. In addition, she spent five years in Auckland, New Zealand. Jennie wakes up feeling like shit.

It’s not an overstatement. Her stomach is contracting painfully and her head is pounding and oh wait, it’s that time of month.

She’s contemplating whether she should get up and take medication or just stay in bed for the rest of the day when her door opens.

“Rise and shine Jendeuk!” Jisoo’s smiling face greets her.

Jennie groans, pulling the covers over her head. “5 more minutes… scratch that, 5 more days…”

“Come on Jen, we have rehearsals today. Our comeback is in a month… we need to practice.”

Jennie’s stomach sinks. Somehow in the haze of pain she’d forgotten that Blackpink’s comeback is nearing - that means endless recording in the studio, hours of going over lyrics and formation, and the grueling dance practices.

She’s dreading getting through the rest of the day.

But one look at the older girl’s earnest, happy face and Jennie knows that she doesn’t wanna worry Jisoo or any of the other girls no matter how much pain she might feel.

So she forces a smile, sits up, and pushes the covers off her. “You’re right unnie, we need to practice… see you downstairs?”

Jisoo nods. “You better actually come down.”

“I will, I will.”

Jennie waits till Jisoo shuts the door behind her before flopping back down onto her bed. Just one more minute… she thinks before closing her eyes again.

Jennie ends up skipping breakfast, partially because of her killer cramps, mostly because she wants to avoid the girls questioning what’s wrong before they’ve even left the dorm.

“Jennieyah!” Jisoo yells from downstairs. “It’s time to go! You said you’d come down!”

Jennie takes a deep breath. “Alright, alright, I’m coming!” She throws on a t-shirt and sweatpants before walking slowly down the stairs, hoping her expression doesn’t betray how much pain she’s in.

“About time you arrived. Are you not hungry? You haven’t eaten anything…” Chaeyoung says worriedly, looking at the brunette in concern.

“It’s okay… I’m not hungry.”

“You sure?”

“I’ll grab a granola bar or something for the road… it’s fine,” Jennie assures the younger girl.

Chaeyoung nods, finally convinced, skipping off to join Lisa in the back seat of their driver’s black Kia.

Jisoo turns to her. “I packed some leftover toast for you… tell me if you’re hungry later, ‘kay?”

Jennie thanks her before they both get in the car, mentally preparing for a long day of rehearsals.

“Come on, come on, everyone in place! Let’s go!” Lisa cheers, hyping them up once they get to the practice room at YG.

Usually Jennie would laugh at her antics, but today the constant sharp pain in her stomach is not exactly helping her get in the mood.

Still she makes sure to try her best as they get into their starting formation and the music starts playing.

Step. Turn. Signature move. Strike a pose. Walk backwards. Change formation.

Halfway through the second time they’re running through the dance it feels like someone’s stabbing Jennie’s stomach over and over again. She grits her teeth, determined to get through the rest of the choreo without collapsing.

“Stop!” Lisa yells, always the boss whenever it comes to dance practice. Rosie runs over to turn off the music and steps back to let Lisa say whatever corrections she has.

Jennie doubles over, breathing hard with her hands on her knees. The pain is so intense she can’t think clearly, which is why she doesn’t hear Jisoo asking her if she’s okay.

“Jennie unnie?” Lisa walks over to her in concern. “What’s wrong? Do you need a break?”

Jennie shakes her head fast, even though every cell in her body is screaming at her to stop. Jisoo was right, their comeback is coming very soon and if she doesn’t nail this today, she’s going to let the whole group down.

“One more time…” she manages to say, standing back up and plastering a reassuring smile on her face. “I’m okay, just needed to catch my breath… you know how I get.”

Jennie doesn’t see the other three’s disbelieving faces as she goes over to take a drink from her water bottle.

“She doesn’t look okay…” Chaeyoung remarks under her breath to the other girls

“She keeps putting a hand on her stomach… do you think she’s sick?”

“I know, maybe she has cramps… you know how bad her cramps can get.” Jisoo guesses the most reasonable answer.

The girls all nod in sympathy.

“Don’t push her too much today Lisayah, I’m hoping she’ll admit that she’s in pain sooner or later… we’ll have to question her if she doesn’t.”

“Okay Jisoonie, let’s wait and see.”

Jennie turns back around at that exact moment. “What are you waiting for? Time to practice!”

Jennie is not feeling okay.

The pain that was there this morning has almost doubled and she’s feeling slightly sick too, maybe the intense dance practice isn’t helping.

On top of that, the dull pounding in her head has gotten worse, and hiding it has gotten significantly more difficult. She can only hope that the girls haven’t noticed already.

Just get through the rest of the day, you’ll be fine, she convinces herself.

“You good Jen? You’re really pale… sure you’re okay?” Jisoo asks cautiously, not wanting Jennie to clam up and say she’s fine again.

Jennie opens her mouth to say that yes, she’s completely fine, but something in Jisoo’s gaze is so warm and caring that she breaks.

“No,” she says in a small voice.

“We could tell, unnie,” Chaeyoung chuckles, before quickly turning serious. “Where hurts? You look like you’re in pain…”

“My stomach… and my head. I think it’s cramps.” Jennie mumbles, sinking down onto the floor. “Can we go home guys? I’m not feeling well…”

Lisa wraps her arms around her. “Of course unnie, you should have told us earlier… why did you hide it from us?”

“I didn’t want you to worry… and our comeback is in less than a month so we need to practice… I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.” Jisoo sits down next to her. “Next time just tell us okay? No one blames you, everyone has those days. We’ll take care of you.”

“Jisoo unnie’s right, it’s okay… you’re okay. Should we go home now?”

At Chaeyoung’s words, everyone nods and Jisoo calls their driver to come pick them up early. No one leaves Jennie’s side the whole time.

When they get home, Jennie lets the girls fuss over her, getting her a hot water bottle for her stomach and making all her favorite foods.

“Thank you for making me feel better guys… I love you.”

And to be honest?

She really does feel better.
