I am not a baby!! (yes you are)
(Ao3) (Masterpost) (Previous) (Next)
(Chapter 8)
Cutting through the water with practiced ease, he snapped his tail, an audible crack sounding as he boosted forwards. A rotten egg. He was tasked with watching a rotten egg. Did Father think him incompetent? A mockery of his skills and a slight against him as a person. Why did he have to guard a dead egg while the others fought reapers and patrolled dangerous waters?
Safe shallows, a place mainly inhabited by herbivores, bright and colorful. His tail dragged uncomfortably against the seabed waters too shallow for this form to move at full capability. The egg was in site, floating at the surface. Strangely, it smelled better than it had before. There was still the lingering scent of festering rot but weaker than before.
Peaking through the see-through bottom, the egg appeared to be empty. Not a peep was heard inside the egg, lights glowing brightly. All the babies who lived for more than a few seconds had eggs that glowed inside. This egg wasn't glowing before, but now it was, and there still wasn't a baby.
Did it hatch while he wasn't watching it? They were under the assumption the egg was dead. If it hatched earlier, no one would've been there to protect them. Fragile creatures with a tendency to die spontaneously. They stood no chance on their own. The shallows were relatively safe, with barely any predators, if the baby did hatch its body should still be floating around here somewhere.
Using his arms to drag himself through the shallows, some oddities began to arise. Metal boxes that used to be firmly planted into the ground were gone, fish frazzled, drifting curiously towards something in the distance.
Damian had expected a corpse or the sight of red blood from a baby freshly killed. A metal building standing strong near the borders of the grassy plateaus was something he never would've expected. It was a purer white, maintained, or recently built. Unlike any of the buildings in Jellyshroom caves or the deep grand reef, this building was active, functioning not a speck of rust-coating metal tubes.
Like the previous buildings, part of it was see-through. He couldn't help but wonder if this baby would be like the friendly, curious one who'd stare at everything through the clear barrier in awe. The babies never strayed too far from their nests unless they were migrating or collecting materials. Chances were, if a hatchling were alive, it'd be in there. Drifting over to the see-through tube, he peered inside...
It was tiny...
Smaller than any of the babies that ever hatched. Larger than the Peepers swimming around the base, yet no bigger than a Mesmer. Smaller than what Father said he was when he hatched more than a thousand years ago. A hatchling running in circles, more active and excited than any of the other babies ever were. Running too fast for him to get a good look, it was unclear whether this was normal behavior of a healthy hatchling.
When the hatchling finally exhausted himself, it slowed down to a pace. Fluffy black hair with splotches of white barely reached his ears, the hatchling occasionally running pudgy fingers through it. His face was a bit red, but a feeling of excitement radiated off the child in consistent waves.
Tap...Tap...Tap
Claws clinking against the tube, the hatchling froze in place. Vibrant, blue eyes stared directly at Damian, widened, shocked by his sudden appearance. It wasn't his intention to scare the hatchling, he just wanted to check on them. Preparing to give another gentler tap, the hatchling raises his arms, a tool in his hands, a flash of light blasting Damian in the face. Not quite blinding but blurring his vision enough for the baby to dart away deeper into the tube so he couldn't see him anymore. A shy hatchling was easier to keep alive, but it still hurt seeing the baby hiding from him.
For a minute, he entertained the thought of keeping the hatchling's existence a secret. To bond and secure his place as favorite sibling early on. Only remembering the sheer fragileness of the children changed his mind. Being the favorite of a dead child would do him no good. If the hatchling was smart enough to survive this long, he'd be smart enough to see that Damian is the superior sibling.
"Father, the hatchling from the shallows is still alive,"
The utter chaos that erupted through the bond was almost worth risking a potential title.

I know I missed some, but I tried to put in all the ones I thought were interesting. Also left out the plot-relevant ones you dont discover early game because i'm of the opinion that you should go into subnautica with 0 spoilers.

You're a young witch who works on maintenance for the massive Alterra space vessel "The Celestial", when going over a mysterious water filled planet known as Planet 315151195 (The numbers placement of each letter of Cookie in the alphabet, so literally translates to Planet Cookie). Suddenly there's an emergency as the ship was shot down! You make it to an escape pod in time and get flung off to the safe shallows.
When you exit the pod you see The Celestial crashed in the distance, your PDA giving off a grim message "0 Witch life signs detected.". You're the only survivor. You don't know what to do! When you hear a-
"Hey, are you okay?"
Looking in the water you see a young but, much bigger than you, mer-creature. He smiles and introduces himself as Gingerbrave, you tell him of your situation and he offers his help with his friends. Now you must discover the history of the Precursors on Planet 315151195 (to which Gingerbrave laughs and says that this is Planet Cookie), learning about the Kharaa bacterium while becoming infected yourself. Now it's a race against time to find the cure, Enzyme 42 that's only made by Sea emperor leviathans….but they went extinct a long time ago…or did they?

while looking for magnetite in the jellyshroom caves i decided to say fuck it and attempt to scan a crabsnake......... i discovered that you can go inside the shrooms just like them after going inside an empty one, so i went inside a shroom a little after a crabsnake entered it. it wasn't inside, but it had a creature egg. then after a bit the crabsnake respawned and was glitching out bc it was trying to leave but wouldn't since i was also within its range to attack me, so it ended up glitching up and down inside the shroom. i swam up a little, tried scanning it, and it ACTUALLY fucking worked????? swimming up also allowed it to leave finally so i got the hell out of there afterwards

Subnautica AU
Hey! My ask was eaten a while ago, so I'll rewrite it
The ask that involved a version of the AU, in which the cons and neutrals + few bots leave and go live on the planet of subnautica, leaving the autobots to get screwed on cybertron with their own problems
I asked how their reaction would be to discovering where most of the Cybertronians are living, the mutations they have and, mainly, the reactions of those who are the sires of some of the offspring (deathlock x ratchet)
I meannnnn 👀 cybertron is pretty famously organiphobic, so there'd be a lot of disgust and rumors and ewwww that's groooss slimy wet organic ocean ewww
The mutations definitely take them by surprise though! It quickly becomes clear that these aren't new altmodes they've taken on, no: their bodies have actually rapidly changed and adapted. Those more scientifically inclined are honestly fascinated by it, as well as the ion crystals left behind by the Architects. Getting Cybertron back up and running without cheap slave labor is uhhhh Difficult™, to say the least, and I'd say there's probably at least a small portion of mecha that are bitter that the warframes are thriving and unbothered while they're struggling so much. Oh how the tables have turned
As for Dratchet 👀 they'd make a great deep sea couple, though I've never really thought about what species they would adapt to 🤔 I've always been really attached to the idea of octomer Ratchet, but unfortunately there's not really a species on 4546B that I think fits. Maybe in the next game! As for Drift/Deadlock, something fast and predatory, methinks. Not every cybertronian can be a leviathan, right? So... maybe a bones hark? The thick armored plates would make him a force to be reckoned with! Or maybe a crabsnake, if he's still in his reclusive edgelord Deadlock face. I feel like he would definitely love the vibes of the jellyshroom caves.
The two of them hearing about how Cybertron is getting on, or lack thereof... well. I think they definitely feel bad for them, but not enough to ever try to go back and help. Even if their bodies weren't now very much suited for life in a weightless environment, the war is over. They're happy here. They don't want to leave. Let everyone sort their own problems out. Compassionate but not trying to be white knights, yk? That kinda vibe

Dude, Where's My Seamoth?
In which I chronicle the various nasty fates of my cringe fail minisubs:
Original Seamoth: At this point I can't remember exactly, but I'm inclined to think she fell victim to depth pressure.
Milena: Not destroyed, but beached on the Mountain Island. She makes for a very effective beacon.
HMS Disposable: Never had an official name, and was only built to help me fish Milena out of a cave system I died in. Destroyed by depth pressure, and the plan didn't even work.
Amphitrite: The Seamoth I actually managed to retrieve Milena with. Served me well, right up until something destroyed her in the Jellyshroom Caves whilst I wasn't looking. I suspect Crabsnakes.
Zennor: Amphi's successor. Destroyed by a Crabsquid and a Ghost Leviathan when I tried to investigate Lifepod 2.
Delphis: Zennor's successor. Had every depth upgrade, and was destroyed by a Ghost Leviathan when I tried to find the Sea Treader's Path. Fuck Ghost Leviathans.
Titanic: Delphis's successor, not yet lost. At this point I gave up and started spawning the relevant modules using console commands because otherwise I'd spend all my time collecting titanium and lithium and never get anything else done. I also gave up on giving them decent names.

Feel like Astarion gets into Shenanigans whenever he's unsupervised with the seamoth.
Not because he fucks around, but because he keeps getting into Situations.
Wanders too close to the crash site. Dives to near crush depth and then forgets where he parked it and the brain fog makes it hard to remember to turn on the damn HUD for it until he's half way home on the sea glide. Parks too close to Stalkers and has to shoo them off the thing.
Got out just as a strong tide rolled through and well now the seamoth is god knows where and he's doing cartwheels trying to right himself on the way out of it.
Finds a wreck, parks to explore it and comes back to the power cell drained bc he left the lights on and didnt notice.
Most of these result in the radio going "Assistance, if you don't mind." Or just "Help me, damn it!"
Then someone hops in the other seamoth and goes and helps.
Which is fine until the only one available is Gale and Astarion was down in the Jellyshroom caves. You know. Deep. Where seeing the bottom getting there is harder and theres crabsnakes.
Aka at least one time Gale made it through his fear by sheer virtue of Astarion very seriously telling him that he refused to die huddling in an abandoned habitat because Gale was too much of a coward to come save him. So it was come help or live with knowing Astarion got eaten because no one brought a spare o2 tank.
Which, overall, Gale does fine when finally in the cave and they get out ok, Astarion driving them home. Its cramped but fine.
Tav begs Astarion to stop following pings. Please. He nearly dies each goddamn time. Just eat your fish and handle the scanner room.
Astarion does it anyway. Because hes curious and needs to feel useful or the panic they'll all kick him out surfaces and he doesnt want to deal with that.

6, 11 and 18 for the ask game :3
6 - A series you’ve enjoyed since your early days of gaming and still enjoy to this day whether it still has games coming out or is one you return to
YOSHI'S ISLAND!!! Yoshi's Island ALL THE WAY FOREVER!!! I think everybody should play Yoshi games actually. Especially the snes game :)))
11 - Do you prefer ‘blank slate’ main characters you make yourself or otherwise project onto, or characters with a set personality and backstory?
This is a tough one because I enjoy BOTH depending on the series like- with stuff like Pokemon, Stardew and even Zelda I love being MEEE I love projecting and feeling like I'm in that world :) it's even better when there's character customisation.
But yeah now that I think more about it I really do prefer blank slate mcs! I LOVE MAKING SELFINSERTS AAAAAAHHHHH
18 - A game location you really like
Subnautica's setting in it's entirety. I'm looking at all the biomes rn and I seriously can't pick a fave... IT'S ALL SO GOOD. I want to live in the jellyshroom caves :)
and now I want to replay Subnautica... oops

i wanna play a game that lets you explore and collect and just chill out because i’ve only been playing subnautica lately and i’m sick of being jumpscared and having my submarine get murdered by creatures and beasts in a game where i just wanna wander and build for the most part……. the only deep places i feel safe are the jellyshroom cave and that one deep crevasse down near the floating island where the captain or something’s lifepod sank; they’re mostly non-lethal and good places to find rare-ish resources
but i don’t have any money, there aren’t any good free games on the switch, and my ps4 no longer plays games properly (nor does my ps3)
