~~(^Google/Insider 2)
Secret relationships were my favorite. Can you hear the sarcasm? Especially when it suddenly gets harder to hide.
Jak and I have been in a relationship for just over a year after being fellow Red Bull Junior Drivers and teammates in Hitech. The only difference was that I was in F3 while he was in F2. However, at the last race, Isack Hadjar got in an accident, so I was pulled up to fill his place for the next few races.
It was Hungaroring this week, one of our favorite tracks. Both of us were strong on this track. We were doing a track walk with our team, discussing differences in certain parts of the track and different ideas for the race.
“I propose a bet,” I joked, turning around to face Jak and his trainer while continuing to walk backward. I pointed straight at Jak as I directed my offer to him, “If I win, you let me play with your curls and do whatever I want with them for a week.”
“What do I get if I win?” Jak responded.
“As if you would win against me on Hungaroring,” I teased, “You know this is my best track. It’s like my home track!”
“Maybe this will be the year I beat you,” He challenged, running up to catch up with me and my trainer. “Here if you get to mess with my hair for a week, I get to choose your hairstyles for the next week, too.”
“You’re on,” I said, reaching out to shake his hand, “Don’t cry too hard when I beat you.”
“Bold to assume I’ll lose,” He chucked, pulling me closer to whisper, “You forget who’s better at sprints.”
“Hey, this is for the feature race only,” I tried to clarify.
“Nope, you just said who wins, so technically, we could both win,” He found the loophole.
“As long as I get to mess with your hair, fine by me.”

Third-Person Point of View
“And Y/n Daruvala gets pole at Hungaroring! The second year in a row! They are on fire on this track!” One of the announcers exclaimed excitedly.
“Yeah, they’ve talked about this track in multiple interviews,” the other announcer picked up. “They love this track. They also said that they consider this their home track!”
“Well, they’ve definitely got the support like a home race,” the first one laughed. “Let’s go down to parc ferme and see what the top three have to say.”
“Jehan, you are starting in third place for the feature and eighth for the sprint race,” the interviewer started. “How does that feel knowing that your sibling is starting higher than you in their first race, and do you think this will affect you in the races?”
“No, I’m actually really proud of them,” Jehan chuckled in response. “I’m still in a good position to challenge them, so it’s not like we are on opposite ends of the grid. And let’s not forget, I will be starting ahead of them in the sprint! We’ll have to see if they can keep up. Qualifying and racing are two different things.”
“Thank you, Jehan,” the interviewer wrapped up as Jehan walked over toward his younger sibling to congratulate them, and Jak approached the interviewer. “Hi, Jak. P2, tell me about it, that some of your best qualifying positions of the season!”
“Yeah, it is my best so far this season, and I’m really proud of it.  I guess I just needed the right motivation to push me for it,” Jak chucked, glancing over to his team where Y/n and Jehan were talking about something he could not hear over the cheers in the audience.
“Oh?” the interviewer teased. “Is there a certain someone making these deals with you?”
“No,” he chucked, immediately heating up as his blush became evident, “It was my team. The support from my team has been monumental recently, and I’m just so happy they have my back.”
“Would it have anything to do with your new teammate?”
“Could be,” he joked. “Maybe I just needed a change.”
“Thank you for your time, Jak,” the interviewer chucked with Jak before ushering over Y/n. Cheering as they grabbed the microphone, “Y/n, what a lap! What a statement it was, coming into Formula 2 after Isack Hadjar’s injury, and immediately taking pole. That’s got to feel amazing, right?”
“Honestly, pretty good,” they chuckled, “the team has been amazing, the car has been amazing, and the competition is incredible! It feels so different compared to Formula 3, but it is also more competitive, and I absolutely love racing against my brother.”
“Are you nervous? You’ve got Jak Crawford, and Jehan Daruvala, two very experienced drivers, right on your tail for the feature race. How do you think the team will react if you beat your new teammate in your first race, and how do you think your brother will react to his younger sibling winning against him?”
“Well, Jehan is used to me beating him,” Y/n joked, “No, I’m kidding. We are both extremely competitive, but not to the point where we will be upset if the other wins. It’s a friendly competition between us. If anything, I think my being here would make Jehan work even harder. As for Jak and the team, they’ll be fine. The team wants what is best for the drivers, and they know that I am strong on this track. Jak is also pretty good here, but at the end of the day, I don’t think they will be too upset if I win.”
“Jak was talking about how someone on the team gave him some extra motivation,” the interviewer led, “Did you get the same motivation or happen to know who it was?”
“Oh, I challenged him,” Y/n owned up to it with a loud laugh. “I said that I would beat him, he disagreed, so we made it a bet.”
“Are you afraid that the bet will backfire, and maybe lead to you both not finishing the feature race?”
“A little healthy competition never killed anybody.”

First-Person Point of View
The sprint race was not what we expected. Just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time while we were making our way up the field. Unfortunately, the move took Jak and me out. It all came down to the feature race.
Unsurprisingly, I won.
It wasn’t an easy win, by any means. It came down to just under a second, but the perfectly timed safety care helped me pit at the right time and stay ahead of Jak.
Standing on the podium with Jak and Jehan was surreal. I didn’t register that I had actually won. Not after I was called out to stand on the top step, not during my national anthem, not even after I was given the trophy. It only clicked when Jak, Jehan, and my engineer started spraying you with champagne. I broke out of the trance, slamming my bottle of champagne down (just like Lando taught me) and spraying them back.
We all took our pictures before splitting up, me promising to meet up with Jehan for dinner, to head back to our trailers for showers and debriefs. On my way over to the debrief, I ran into Jak literally, and the first thing I did was run my fingers through his wet hair.
“Looks like I get to mess with these for the next week,” I whispered as I twirled one of his curls between my fingers. “It was a good try though.”
“I’ll get you next week,” He jokingly complained, dropping his head, so I could reach more of the curls. “This isn’t over.”
“I mean, the next race is in two weeks,” I started with a frown, dropping my hands from his hair to grab his hands and play with his fingers. “As much as I would love to stay, Isack might be back from his injury by the next race, and I’ll be back in F3.”
“Are you guys ready for the debrief?” My manager interrupted. “We’ve only got a couple of things to go over and then you can go eat or back to the hotel.”
“Yeah, let’s go,” Jak replied, keeping his hand in mine as we walked into the conference room of sorts to meet with the entire team. Jak led us to two seats right next to each other. We took our seats and Jak let me keep in hand in my lap to fidget with his fingers, feeling how nervous I was for this debrief.
They congratulated us on our 1-2, the first of the season, and they praised the teams' engineers for their work on the cars. We started going into more technical things about the engines and how well the strategy played out. “Now, let’s get into the obvious. Jak, Y/n, you both drove extremely well. Congratulations on P1 and P2!”
“Yeah thank you,” Jak laughed as the attention was flipped toward us. “Honestly, thank you Y/n for the bet. I don’t think I’ve ever worked this hard on a race weekend. Now, you play with my hair all you want. I love you.”
“Thank you, and I won fair and square! The first thing I’m doing is putting your hair in space buns,” I chuckled, already reaching to separate his hair into two sections. Jak started to jokingly complain and pull my hands away from his hair, but I slapped them away. “I’ve earned this. Also, I love you too.”
“Did I just hear that right?” A voice came from the stairwell, and out came Jehan holding his phone up. “Did you just say that?”
“Jehan, what are you doing here?” I exclaimed, jumping away from Jak as I suddenly realized that Jehan knew about our relationship.
“We were going to surprise you with a full-time F2 seat since Isack won’t be back,” the team principal said quietly before backing away with the rest of the team following suit.
Jak tried to leave with everybody else but that ended as soon as both Jehan and I shouted, “Sit down, Jak!” He sat back down sheepishly as Jehan approached us, pointing between us. “I’m not happy about this.”
“Never said you were gonna be,” I sighed, leaning back in my chair. “This is why I didn’t tell you yet, Jehan.”
“Do you not trust me enough? Both of you?” It didn’t sound like he was angry about the situation. Maybe a little hurt that he had to find out this way, but he wasn’t killing Jak. Jehan took a breath, seeing our semi-scared faces before deciding to continue, “Jak, you’re one of my best mates and you chose my sibling? Of all people, really? Why?”
“I don’t know what you want me to say, Jehan,” Jak started, “They’re amazing, they’re funny, they’re everything I’d want and more. All those times I talked to you about proposing?” I snapped my head toward Jak, seeing him being completely serious. We had never discussed marriage or anything, so to hear that he was thinking about it made me feel more confident. I slowly turned to look over at Jehan, and he was just as shocked.
“You were talking about my sibling?” Jehan asked, just as shocked, if not more, than me. “There is no way.”
“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?” I exclaimed, kind of offended at his statement.
“Listen, I love you, but there is no way you would have done some of the things he talked about,” Jehan laughed.
“What did you tell him?” I snapped over at Jak. He just joins in the laughter rather than answering. “No, I need to know. What did you tell my brother?”
“You drank with me on Screaming Meals,” Jak chuckled. “I told him that you tried wine with me while I filmed Screaming Meals. It’s not as bad as you think.”
“But it is, Jak!” Jehan exclaimed, but he had a wide smile of disbelief on his face. “You told me that your first drink would be with me! You liar!”
“You were taking forever!” I retorted just as loud.
“You’re not of age yet! It’s illegal!” He came back.
“Tell that to Clem! He’s the one that talked me into it,” I deferred with a laugh. “But listen, Jehan, it’s not that bad. It was wine, not whiskey or beer or something. Wine has like the smallest alcohol content. It’s fine, and I didn’t even have a lot.”
“Point is, yes, Jehan,” Jak interrupted our argument, “They are the one I talk about all the time.”
“All the time?” I jokingly questioned.
“He doesn’t shut up,” Jehan sighed in response.
“Hey!” He interrupted.
“Anyway, if he makes you as happy as you make him, I can get used to this,” Jehan relented.
“Really?” I exclaimed, jumping up to approach him. When I stood in front of him, he nodded, and I threw my arms around his shoulders. “Thank you, Jehan. He treats me right, trust me.”
“Yeah,” Jak tried to make a joke, but I immediately cut him off, turning around to point a finger at him.
“Hey, don’t think I’m just going to forget the fact that you were talking to my brother about proposing to me,” I scolded. “We are going to have a talk about this, Mister.”
“Noted.”
“And on that note, keep me out of your relationship,” Jehan said quickly, turning around and heading down the stairs before shouting up, “See you at the next race, guys! Also, send me the picture when you get him in space buns! I need blackmail!”
