The Young Turks Aug 23, 2022
Anti-Abortion Zealots Want to Charge Women with MURDER
An extremist element of the antiabortion movement is calling for women to be tried for homicide if they have had an abortion. Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss on The Young Turks.

"Hours after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last week, a man with a wiry, squared-off beard and a metal cross around his neck celebrated with his team at a Brazilian steakhouse. He pulled out his phone to livestream to his followers.
“We have delivered a huge blow to the enemy and to this industry,” the man, Jeff Durbin, said. But, he explained, “our work has just really begun.”
“Even the states that have trigger laws,” which ban abortion at conception without exceptions for rape or incest, did not go far enough, Mr. Durbin, a pastor in the greater Phoenix area, said. “They do not believe that the woman should ever be punished.”
Resistance to “the question of whether or not people who murder their children in the wombs are guilty,” he said, “is going to have to be something we have to overcome, because women are still going to be killing their children in the womb.”

Quote
Proposals to physically transfer Palestinians out of the country have a long history in Zionism. Theodor Herzl confided in his diaries: “We shall try to spirit the penniless population across the border by procuring employment for it in the transit countries, while denying it employment in our own country.” Israel Zangwill, the Jewish writer who coined the phrase “A land without a people,” complained that Palestine is not so much occupied by the Arabs as overrun by them.” Invoking the Boer’s Great Trek in South Africa, he proposed that “we must greatly persuade [the Arabs] to ‘trek’. After all, they have all Arabia with its million square miles – not to mention the vast new area freed from the Turk between Syria and Mesopotamia – and Israel has not a square inch.” If they “fold their tents” and “silently steal away,” he felt sure that the Jews would be prepared to pay their travelling expenses. Ben-Gurion, the architect of the Nakba, had long advocated for “compulsory transfer.” In 1937, he established a Committee on Population Transfer within the Jewish Agency. And, of course, transfer, a euphemism for ethnic cleansing, was in fact carried out at a mass level in 1948 and again in 1967. One of its most notorious perpetrators, Yosef Weitz, the Director of the Jewish National Fund’s Land Settlement Department, wrote: 'It must be clear that there is no room in the country for both peoples … The only solution is a Land of Israel without Arabs…. There is no way but to transfer the Arabs from here to the neighbouring countries, to transfer all of them, perhaps with the exception of Bethlehem, Nazareth and the old Jerusalem. Not one village must be left, not one tribe.'

In honor of "Turk"
Found out this morning, a huge jolt to my realm, my old roommate and best man in my wedding has stage 4 inoperable/untreatable brain cancer. This isn't about me, but I'm still a student of life, and trying wrap my head around this piece of information.
Some folks may read this and become very uncomfortable. As I'm not following "normal" trends with this type of situation. I mean no harm, and actually don't believe many will actually see/read this installment, including Tom. And thats ok... Nothing wrong is being printed here.
In my opinion, tributes to the "gone/lost" are fine. But the person that is being spoken about, doesn't get to hear it, let alone in person..... maybe we should change our trendy ways and speak up while everyone is still around?
He is alive and getting therapy to learn how to get his balance back as of this writing.
And as it is.....
Tom "turk" "turkey" Kohn. His name came about due to a character on TV then who used the term Turkey a lot in his vocabulary. How ever that came about, the name stuck for years. Maybe not so much now... I've heard him called Professor recently, by others who worked with him before retirement. Later in his career, he got a job in another department.
Tom and I shared an apartment at 33rd and Vine I think for 2 and half years.
Tom started at Lincoln Hoot and Hollar construction department about 6 months after me. Fresh out of the "seabees"..
Our boss (who was terrified of climbing poles) attempted to teach Tom and another new guy how to climb .... on the job.
Couldn't keep Tom off the poles, and the other new guy, we couldn't keep on the poles. Tom was probably one of the best lines men I ever knew, and the best bucket truck operator.... nothing he couldn't do phone work wise, and do very well.
From what I remember we hit it off very well. His sense of humor just fit me. Within a few months, we got an apartment.
Tom is a Crete guy. Went to high school there. And then joined the Navy. This was back at the tail end of Viet nam... and was stationed in Thailand.
When he got out, bought a brand new 73 custard colored blazer. A very proud owner he was.
He also owned a Honda 100, and I owned a 73 Norton 850. When we'd ride together, it was sort of a Mutt and Jeff affair. He later bought a very nice, fast 74 Kawasaki Z1 900. He made up for the years lost on his toy bike.
We shared tons of info between ourselves, including beliefs, and ideas.
Probably one of the most honorable people I know. There is no way I can put myself on that same shelf.
Lots of humorous stories come to mind.
We were both pranksters. I'd throw a cold cold water surprise on him when he was in the tub. And he'd get me back. We both loved the scream of shock.
Somewhere there was Vaseline on a toilet seat.... can't seem to remember that story clearly.
Borrowed his blazer during a blizzard (1974?). I buried it in a snow bank and hand dug it out. Returned it home, and never told him. He got in a day or so later, and noted the alternator wasn't charging. Popped the hood, and the whole engine compartment was stuffed with snow and Ice..... all to ..."what the hell?...." Honestly, although very funny, I had no idea that actually happened.
Tom being shorter, I just couldn't help myself. Could be considered mean. He used to drive our boss around in a pickup. Toms job was to get the pickup and warm it up. I took blocks of wood and tapped them to the peddles, to help him reach the peddles (same thing done for little kids to reach the peddles when learning to ride a bike). Just trying to help out. He didn't really need them.... lots of laughs, and he took it in stride.
He was frequent at "lil Bo's" with his hi school buddy Dave who also was fresh out of the military. Those 2 could drink hard in those days being fresh out of the military.
One night I decided to hang out with them at Bo's, which is a scary thought, as I've always been a fly weight for drinking.... and tried to match drink for drink with them. By the time I got into the car to go home, I was blotto. Dave had drove, and it was a itty bitty Fiat, that I folded myself up to fit in the back (no seat).
We got home and Tom decides he's hungry and grabs a frying pan and what appeared to be a full bottle of oil to cook something up. By this time, I'm dizzy and wondering what I've gotten myself into. I walk by the stove looking at the bubbling smoking heated oil..... and I run for the toilet.
I was dating my Wife in this piece of time.... and eventually got engaged. Tom and I parted ways, and he moved in with Dave.... in the Meadowlane/Bethany area.
Tom was my best man, and tormented me throughout the ceremony, under his breath. I still giggle.
Tom started dating a wonderful girl from his past.... Pam, and they married. Although Toms bachelor party wasn't anything extra abnormal, I remember it well.
I can still remember bits of their wedding at the Havelock Methodist church.
From this point on to the past couple of years, we didn't stay in touch much. But would see each other at work. And everything was cool. Our paths had just separated... life moves on.
During this "vacant" period of separation, Tom got married to Pam. Bought a nice acreage south of Lincoln in the Norris school district. Raised a Son and a Daughter. Was a boy scout leader, and was on the Norris school board. He was a busy man.
Now that we are both retired, we see each other more than the past 30 years. 2 Winters ago he entrusted me to restore his old Z1, which he had kept all these years.
I was very surprised on both counts. I enjoyed the project.
He's a member of the geezers club, so we see each other fairly frequent now.
This entry is obviously missing huge chunks of a long period of time. But I feel justice, as these are hi lites remembered. I know everyone that knew Tom has their own stories, that more than likely bring a smile to their faces...
This is my Friend Tom. A best friend from years ago.

"Horror Show": Priest On US Prisoner's Nitrogen Gas Execution
Convicted murderer Kenneth Eugene Smith became the first man in the US to be executed with nitrogen gas, a controversial method that was condemned by human right activists as well as the United Nations and White House.
Tumblr media
The 22-minute execution that saw the 58-year-old murderer writhing and thrashing for several minutes was described as a "horror show" by his spiritual advisor Reverend Jeff Hood. The priest who was among several people who witnessed the execution said even the prison staff were unable to hide their shock over the scene.
“There was clear shock and surprise on their faces. In that circumstance it's hard to know what is what, but I know what I saw in terms of the horror on the faces of people in front of me," Hood told The New York Post, adding that he heard audible gasps from people as Smith struggled to breathe.
It looked like a scene produced for Hollywood, he said. "It's a scene that will never leave me."
The nitrogen hypoxia execution, a method described as "untested human experiment" by human rights activists, was carried out at Alabama's Holman Prison. It marked the first change from the usual method of lethal injection in the US. The method forces the prisoner to breathe nitrogen instead of oxygen through a respirator mask.
Hood claimed that while the prison authorities assured that the method would result in instant death, the actual scene of the execution could not be far from it.
“They said all along that this was going to be nearly instantaneous. They were told this is going to be quick, easy and painless. They kept saying this is the most humane way society has ever figured out how to execute people. That he would be gone, unconscious, in seconds. What we saw last night was minutes, minutes, and minutes of a horror show," he said, adding that Smith looked like a "fish out of water, flapping over and over again."
The White House on Saturday said it was "deeply troubled" by the execution. UN human rights chief Volker Turk, the EU and civil liberties groups also expressed concern about the manner of Smith's execution.
Kenneth Eugene Smith was on death row for more than three decades after being convicted of the 1988 murder-for-hire of a pastor's wife.

Can crowdfunding and crowdsourcing build a community for creatives?
As I mentioned above, can crowdfunding build a community for creatives? What do you think? Alright, before we proceed, lets dive a little about what is crowdfunding, what is crowdsourcing and what is community for creatives meaning.
What is crowdfunding?
According to (Christensen, 2023), crowdfunding is a digital fundraising strategy, enabling individuals or businesses to raise money from people via online platforms, to support business, projects or causes.
Tumblr media
Image from Arrow Electronics
What is crowdsourcing?
According to (Hargrave), crowdsourcing involves obtaining work, information or opinions from a large group of people who submit their data via the internet, social media and smartphones apps.
Tumblr media
Image from Innovation Observer
What is community for creatives?
According to (Haslam et al., 2014), community of creatives is a sense of shared social identity provides the motivation for people to stick to a creative project and see it to completion.
What is community for creatives role in crowdfunding and crowdsourcing?
As the internet nowadays had become part of the daily routines with 4.95 billion users worldwide as of 2023 (McCain, 2023). With the exponential growth of the internet users, it will be easier for the certain individual do their crowdfunding through online communities as their new method to build the business. These are the example of what the community did to support crowdfunding such as, arranging mentor-mentee for the newbies, storing the sample project as references and giving an opinion or response for the newbies campaign presentation.
Crowdsourcing word was invented by Jeff Howe in 2006 in his article called “The Rise of Crowdsourcing”.  The origin word of crowdsourcing is crowds and outsourcing. To nail the targeted, social media platforms is a basic method to support this attempt. There are some examples of social media that have certain types of crowdsourcing, such as Mturks, Amazon and Mechanical Turk. Meantime, nonprofit organisations seeking to connect with the promoter after vendors provide crowdsourcing platforms for a suitable sale.
As I mentioned above, crowdfunding is a digital fundraising strategy to support business. Commonly, crowdfunding by certain individual or newbie companies to start or expand their organization. Its an ingenious approach for acquiring investment for fresh efforts, ideas and business plan. Furthermore, it could help to gain a community surrounding your offering. Plus, by the power of the internet community could help gain new clients as well as helpful knowledge from the industry.
Website that allows an interaction between funders and their supporters are recognised as crowdfunding platforms. Through crowdfunding platform, agreements of money can be submitted and received. There a few main kinds of crowdfunding,
Profit-sharing/revenue sharing
In return for current help, businesses could give the community a share of their possible future earnings or profits.
2. Donation-based crowdfunding
A little amount of fund from some individuals are made with the purpose to help a particular charity-related project’s larger supportive objective with zero expectation of financial or personal gain.
3. Peer-to-peer crowdfunding
With an expectation that the fund will gain profit, the community give loans or fund for business. The major distinction within it and borrowing from bank is the number of shareholders you gain from.
Now, back to our question just now. In my humble opinion, I would love to say yes, crowdfunding and crowdsourcing can build a community for creatives. Why? As we can see from the definitions given above, we can say that through this crowdsourcing we can develop a new connection with the communities by putting some ad on the social media platforms. For example, putting the fun run ad to raise a donation for the orphanage through Facebook or YouTube. Some people will participate this for fun and some will participate to donate for the orphanage. Other than that, indirectly crowdfunding will help newbie who just planned to startup their business to build a new connection with some expert or gain new clients.

The script appears to be a collection of disconnected and nonsensical phrases and actions performed by various characters, including Emerald Ventures, Jeff, Turk, and Blob. The dialogue is often fragmented and difficult to follow, and there is no clear storyline or plot. The script jumps from one action to another, with characters discussing topics such as color codes, training schedules, football games, and shopping. The title of the script, "New York Turkey Makes Granola," seems to be completely unrelated to the content of the script, as there is no mention of granola or New York turkey throughout the script. Overall, the script appears to be a random assortment of ideas and actions without a coherent narrative structure. As New York Turkey heads to work at Emerald Ventures on his PC, he finds himself in a completely different world from the chaotic script he just experienced. In contrast to the disconnected and nonsensical phrases and actions in the script, New York Turkey is now immersed in the world of business and professionalism. He works on his computer, discussing topics such as sales figures, market analysis, and project timelines with his colleagues. The script's fragmented and difficult-to-follow dialogue is replaced by clear and concise business language, and the chaotic jumps from one action to another are replaced by a clear sense of purpose and direction. While the script's title, "New York Turkey Makes Granola," has no relevance to the content, New York Turkey's current work at Emerald Ventures appears to be well-structured and goal-oriented. As New York Turkey navigates his work at Emerald Ventures, he reflects on the nonsensical script he just read. The disconnected and fragmented dialogue from the script contrasts sharply with the structured and organized communication he experiences at work. New York Turkey begins to wonder about the purpose of the script and whether it was created with intention or simply a haphazard collection of ideas. Despite the lack of coherence in the script, New York Turkey can't help but admire the creativity that went into it. He thinks about how it could be reworked with a clearer narrative structure and storyline, and how it might be transformed into a compelling piece of entertainment. As he wraps up his workday, New York Turkey decides to meet up with The Blob to discuss the script further. They start bouncing ideas off each other, brainstorming ways to bring more coherence and structure to the story. As they talk, New York Turkey begins to see parallels between his work at Emerald Ventures and his efforts to improve the script. Just as he strives to create a well-structured and goal-oriented business plan, he is now working to turn the script into a coherent and compelling story. In the end, New York Turkey realizes that both his work and his creative endeavors require careful planning, clear communication, and a sense of purpose. While the script may have been nonsensical, it provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of structure and coherence in all areas of life. -- Watch live at https://ift.tt/ZlIbeki by Sketchy Kids

Week 1
Metal
23/11/2022
Fun cardboard making session!!
I wanted to do an inflatable toy axe within the theme "Unusable" so that it would be looking inflatble but its going to be made of metal!
The idea was sort of combined with Gavin Turk's "Trash" and Jeff Koons' "Balloon Dog", which made me think its possible to do that.
The cardboard making part I practiced this design with cardboards, slightly making dents on them then curve it in order to make it look like theres air inside. Also with flattened edges to make it cushion-like
so so so so unfortunately that after presenting the models to Tim and the technician. They thought that itd be impossible to finish it since it requires so much hammer hitting on anvils:(((
Perhaps I should start another idea...
