Another image of Obi-Wan flashed in Qui-Gon's mind. An older Obi- Wan, ready to begin the intensive path toward the trials. Soon he would be more man than boy. He would take the leap toward becoming a Jedi Knight.
Pride and sadness flooded Qui-Gon as he pictured Jedi Master Obi- Wan Kenobi. He looked forward to the day that the two of them would work side by side as Jedi Knights, but with this thought no image came. Qui- Gon's chest tightened. He was so proud of Obi-Wan's path, of his achievements. Why couldn't he see him as a Knight? Perhaps I do not want to see the boy grow up, he thought.

Obi-Wan: Hey! I accidentally found a potentially damning piece of evidence that would confirm your suspicions about Xanatos’ involvement and might be the key to this mystery!
Qui-Gon: Why is this child still talking to me

going into this with a knowledge of the timeline might have been a mistake because I am (a) already very attached to babie Obi and (b) ready to punch anyone who might hurt him

the fact that this is using “man with blue eyes” as The descriptor for Xanatos is killing me bc sir— sir, what color exactly do you think Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon’s eyes are?

I think Xanatos’ eyes have been mentioned three times in as many paragraphs and you know what? I respect that. I love when something reads like the author might have a body pillow of the character they’re describing.

I was planning to hold off on starting Jedi Apprentice until exams were over, but I’ve hit a breaking point (just one day off would be lovely, but if I can’t have that, then at least I can have some star wars nonsense) and am taking the plunge. I’m not going to be liveblogging, but I will be tagging any thoughts as I read through with ‘#jedi apprentice readthrough’ so be sure to blacklist that if you don’t want to see anything!

I finished The Ties That Bind today. Oh Force that hurt, especially when I know what’s coming.
“He opened his eyes and met the resolute gaze of his Padawan. He wanted to tell Obi-Wan that if they did not find her in time, if his vision came true, he knew one thing: He would be forever changed. Forever half of what he was. What he could have been.”
My heart 💔💔💔
I have zero doubt that this arc has the intention to parallel Anakin’s reaction to Pademé’s potential death. I wonder, if there’s a Sith manipulating Qui-Gon like Palpatine manipulated Anakin in RotS at this moment, or anytime before/during/after Tahl’s death, would Qui fell to the Darkside?

Jedi Apprentice readthrough #3
3/18
This is my favorite one so far! It feels somewhat more light-hearted despite some pretty darn dark themes.
- the river rock final made its first appearance! (and Qui-Gon “I just thought it’s a pretty rock” Jinn, oh Force I love this ridiculous man)
- I should start a counter for how many times Qui-Gon gets mad at himself for thinking he’s not doing a good enough job taking care of Obi
-......and one for Obi, too, for thinking himself failing Qui-Gon
-Smol!Obi strikes again! He’s so brave and smart and precious!
-Qui-Gon has fully gone into “must protect” mode, but at same time he acknowledges Obi-Wan has made the right decisions even though they might seem reckless and is willing to follow his lead afterwards. It’s nice.
- There’s really not much time lapse between books, isn’t there? I swear to the Force Obi-Wan has managed to escape certain death for at least half-dozen time already, and it’s not even a month!
