aghh it's so hard to choose a favourite! i'm hugely fond of las mañanas for the sheer amount of love and affection people have for that fic and the way it inspires a lot of fuzzy nostalgia for me 🥹 and whiskey sour just spoke to me from the first moment i put words in the doc, and it still means the world to me now. as for one-shots, i'll give a special shout-out to red light, which began in the doc as just "landlord joel" and spiralled into total insanity!!

Is Deathbringer, Bad Juju or Touch of Malice a Weapon of Sorrow or Depression? Since like their all Hive magic fueled.

Touch of Malice is a Weapon of Sorrow! It works with Necrotic Grip and is also mentioned alongside Thorn and Necrochasm by Calus here (Calus isn't always our best source, but Necrotic Grips interaction confirms him here). This would make Thorn, Touch of Malice, Osteo Striga and Necrochasm confirmed Weapons of Sorrow (Necrochasm isn't in D2 (yet...)).

Deathbringer and Bad Juju aren't, mostly because they've been made to avoid any type of Hive corruption. In case of Bad Juju, it's basically an attempt to make a Weapon of Sorrow but it wasn't entirely successful (not in a way a Weapon of Sorrow would be). Deathbringer also had Toland (and Eris) making it together, using some of the Hive's powers (specifically the Deathsong) but modified to fit Guardians.

The definition of a Weapon of Sorrow isn't entirely clear cut, but so far from those that are confirmed we know that is must involve a human-made weapon being somehow modified or corrupted with Hive technology in a way that makes the weapon itself what holds power, regardless of who wields it (and often features some aspect of being dangerous to the wielder). Bad Juju and Deathbringer are powerful weapons but only as long as their wielder is; they don't seem to hold any specific power on their own, nor are they capable of further corruption. Basically, they're using Hive components, but are distinctly for human use.

There's a lot of debate on this topic, btw. You'll probably see a lot of conflicting information online. There really isn't, so far, any specific line of lore that will confirm or deny any other ideas outside of the Necrotic Grip interaction which is a gameplay feature that ties with lore. That's really the only basis to confirm those that are 100% classified as Weapons of Sorrow (+ Necrochasm which, if added to D2, should work with Necrotic Grip too).

Everything else that sometimes gets classified as Weapons of Sorrow by the fans don't work with Necrotic Grip which means that as of now that is our only confirmation that they aren't. However, the reason why those others aren't is up to anyone's interpretation. There's a lot comments everywhere online about how technically some other stuff should possibly also be considered Weapons of Sorrow, but there's just no clear line to prove or disprove it.

The reason why Necrotic Grip is the best way to tell, outside of gameplay stuff, is because Necrotic Grip was made through the study of the original Thorn. Necrotic Grip is literally made from a tissue sample of a person who died to a Thorn discharge aka from the original corruptive material. Since Thorn is the original Weapon of Sorrow, anything derived from it (like the gauntlets) is the best and closest link to them. The person who made Necrotic Grip, Jana-14, got severely corrupted by this and later went on to create Osteo Striga so that's the link between Weapons of Sorrow and Osteo (severe corruption that spreads from object to person and vice versa). Jana-14 is, as of now, still unaccounted for.

This might also show the staggering difference between how Thorn functions and how Bad Juju or Deathbringer function, namely in terms with corruption. The original Thorn is highly lethal to this day and can effortlessly kill and corrupt more people. Even in death, that corruption sticks and continues to spread. In a way, Thorn is truly the basic essence for Weapons of Sorrow in its purest sense, completely unfiltered corruption.

about the books, there are lots!! i recommend you also ask @kattestrophe - she knows more than i do, especially about the german books; i am neither german nor english so some of those i own aren't available in languages other than my own.

the ones from my collection that are available in english/german are:

frederick the great by william f. reddaway - this is a biography, available in english, i haven't read it all because i only needed the crown prince bit, and that one had historical inaccuracies, so be mindful. but it has images!!

king in prussia by rafael sabatini - this is fiction and also available in english! it's a book from 1944 i believe, divided in two parts, specifically before katte's death and after katte's death up until ... i think the end of the seven years war? i don't know, i haven't read it all and i will stop at katte's death. fritz is very gay in this one as far as i've read, but in a queer disney villain way, which can be fun if you decide to ignore the homophobia. also one of the protagonists is katte's entirely fictional jacobite cousin, the most annoying man on earth.

zeithain by michael roes - this also is fiction, and only available in german. i have only read five pages of it (my german is very poor) and it follows katte, not friedrich. katte is also very sad. but as far as i was told, both of them are gay, so there's that. so far hans is like "it's raining and i'm alone and last week i went to a funeral. i have prayed to the god i lost during my childhood", certainly something very different from how he behaves in king in prussia ...

katte: die geschichte einer freundschaft by gertrud von brockdorff - this is also german only, i'm not sure about the actual book being available (i was sent a pdf) although it could be available in germany?? it is pretty old tho (1934) so i wouldn't know much about that. this one is also more about katte and friedrich, again fiction, it's eight chapters, still haven't read it because this bad boy is written in fraktur and i have trouble reading that but i have had conversations about it, and boy is it queer. there is a single chapter in which katte has a small identity crisis and has a romance with wilhelmine, but after that he's back to longing for frédéric and his "wide, bright and impenetrable" eyes that bewitch everyone. fellas is it gay to think your male friend's eyes are what you need a woman to have so you can actually love her?

the sorrows of frederick by romulus linney - available in english, this is a play from 1966, still haven't read it (the package is somewhere in europe right now), i think it follows all of fritz's life? it has fredersdorf, at least. but fredersdorf here knows katte, so eh. some anachronistic thingies here and there, what's new.

der alte fritz in 50 bildern - i can't figure out the name of the authors (damn it, fraktur) but worry not: this only has somewhat cool illustrations about fritz's life and a little bit of german text. at least some of them are. others are peculiar: voltaire is shorter than fritz in these. he wishes. i'm adding a photo though, so you can see!

i also own a pretty interesting book, not about fritz but about the seven years war in general, titled "prussian army soldiers and the seven years' war: the psychology of honour" by katrin and sascha moebius (there is an umlaut on the o there; i'm writing this on my pc and don't know where to find it).

i also have "later selected poems" by sheenagh pugh, which contains "five voices", a cycle of five poems showing five different perspectives on katte, if you're interested in that. there isn't a fritz perspective, though.

he also has a short chapter in "bad gays" by huw lemmey and ben miller, but i found it to be somewhat offensive at some point, although that could be a translation issue: there is a pretty offensive slur and some things i found to be inaccurate. overall i wouldn't buy it. i only bought it because the italian edition has very cool illustrations, at a time where i did not know about this translation thing.

the rest of my books are all available in italian only (or about voltaire).

Arabic, English and French.

And yes I can write in arabic too, cuz I am Egyptian, so my mother tongue is arabic , 2nd language is English & third is french.

Janae in the books was very different than show Janae. I hope that she isn’t in OOUIB, ONLY because she deserves to be happy and to move on.
