Hopefully the author will not be offended at me for this, as I unironically ship them...

...but acknowledging Full Credit to this fic for finally coming up with the ship name for Emil x Jennifer. Walsky! I have been workshopping names since the teaser trailer and never thought to just move on to their surnames instead of clinging to their given ones. Think the most viable one I came up with was Jemil, which I found cute as reminding me of their co-star Jamila Jamil, but was still not hitting for me. Finding information on Jamila wasn't particularly easy, but from what I can gather...

Jamila was first released in 2006 by Simba Toys Middle East. According to an article published upon her debut at the 2006 Middle East Toy Fair in Dubai, her prototype initially intended to include fashions representing Turkey, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. However, these concepts never made it to final release, and we unfortunately have no photos of what they would have looked like.

Her initial lineup consisted of four dolls: herself, her male Arabic friend Jamil, her Indian friend Sunayana, and her Egyptian friend Kareema.

The name Jamila means "beautiful", and she seems to have only really been released with one outfit. She wore a black abaya with silver detailing with black shoes, and underneath wore a light blue tanktop with a white pencil skirt. Like her friends Sunayana and Kareema, Jamila has dark hair, brown eyes, and henna on her hands and feet.

For those unaware, Henna is a form of body decoration which originated from Africa and the Middle East, used with a natural dye from the Mehendi (lawsonia inermis). It is commonly tied to religious ceremonies such as engagements, weddings, Diwali, and Eid!

For Eid Al-Fitr, Henna would be applied towards the end of Ramadan as a symbol of the earthly delight of being alive. Jamila (and Sunayana if we're to believe they had identical Henna) seems to have eye imagery in hers, which represents protection from evil thoughts or wishes. It's also found on the top of her hands, also symbolizing protection, and on her feet, meant to soothe the nerves.

The name Jamil means "handsome". Jamil was initially released clean-shaven, but it seems later releases gave him facial hair. This might have been around the same time he was changed from Jamila's male friend to her husband, likely because (although opposite-sex friendships aren't explicitly forbidden) certain Muslims worry such friendships might result in inappropriate romantic thoughts. While this doesn't seem to be a unanimous belief across the board (many believing opposite-sex friendships are fine so long as you're careful), it might have caused enough controversy that Simba felt the need to marry the two so there weren't any implications. Jamil comes with a white Thobe with silver buttons, a white Serwal ( undergarments traditionally worn beneath the Thobe), a white cotton undershirt, a white headscarf known as a Ghutra (tied with a black band called the Egal), black sandals, and a small dagger.

I'm actually not sure why his doll comes with a knife? The closest I could find was the Kirpan: a knife or sword which serves as a reminder to promote justice and protect the weak, mandatory for Amritdhari Sikhs to wear at all times. However, although non-Muslims sometimes confuse the two, Sikhism is a completely separate religion from Islam.

If anyone knows what this knife might be intended to represent, please let me know and I'll reblog an edit to this post!

After they were married, Jamila and Jamil had two children: Asad (meaning "Lion") and Almira (meaning "Princess"), both seen in the first illustration on this post. However, I can only seem to find one doll release for their daughter Almira, and none for Asad. Jamila comes in this playset in her base outfit, while her daughter (who cries when you press her stomach) wears pink pajamas. The playset includes a crib and several plastic accessories, including two hair brushes, a blow drier, and a baby bottle. Not only is this only release for Almira, but this also seems to be the only other release for Jamila aside from her initial core doll.

Sunayana means "woman with lovely eyes". She has long braided black hair, wearing a blue Lehenga Choli with a yellow Dupatta. Like Jamila, she also has henna on her hands and feet. She wears silver bangles, a silver necklace, and what I believe might be a Maang Tikka. Based on her images on the back of the doll boxes, I'm fairly certain she came wearing yellow sandal heels as well!

Honestly she might be one of my favorites of the line, since you sadly don't see many culturally-accurate Indian dolls compared to other ethnic groups. I especially love the use of color, and just how much jewelry she comes with!

Finally we have Jamila's Egyptian friend Kareema, whose name means "generous" or "kind". She has pale pink undergarments painted on beneath her clothes, which I assume Jamila has as well. Weirdly enough, however, she doesn't seem to have Henna like the other two.

Like Sunayana and Jamila she has long black hair, which is kept beneath a white hijab. She wears a long blue overcoat, matching jeans, blue shoes, and a multicolored striped shirt. As far as I can tell, her clothing doesn't seem to have Egyptian cultural roots like Sunayana's has Indian, however her modest style of dress and hijab are common for most Muslim women.

I've been meaning to make this post for at least a full week, and it's nice to finally get to share another beautiful yet obscure Muslim doll! It's a shame this doll didn't have more releases, since I'm honestly curious with the direction the might have taken with her and her friends based on the prior illustration! Regardless, I'm happy I got to share her and her friends with you all :)

Concept for fem Jamil bc I had read a fanfic and it's all I can think of:

What if she changes her school uniform after book 4?

Like, I was thinking about this bc I saw a genderbend fanart where Jamil was drawn with a really long skirt and her regular hoodie but it looked like it engulfed most of her upper body, generally just looking like the girls who dress like they want their clothes to hide them from the world (or it's for religious reasons but I'm not an expert to say if that's the case, and even then Jamil mentions he's not fond of traditions anyway) which I think aligns with his/her character bc of how she was raised to be in Kalim's shadow (and if you add the layer of Jamil as a girl and Kalim as a boy it's very possible that she would be raised to be ashamed of her sexuality, her parents would be afraid that she would "taint" him)

So, I think, as a girl there will be more weight put on the way she presents herself, also I can't think of ways og Jamil could change his appearance but fem Jamil could go from below knee length skirt to above knee length skirt, oversized hoodie to a hoodie that it's actually her size. Yeah, it's not like I want to change her essence but show that she's hiding herself anymore

Wanted to share here but couldn’t be bothered typing all that again so here’s me face. Anyway I am also fully aware that in terms of looks/body etc I am very close to what society deems the norm, and that makes me lucky in many ways. But I always think about beanie feldstein on jamila jamil’s podcast talking about how, when she was thinner, she found it harder because when you’re so close to the norm it feels simultaneously both more attainable and less. And she said when she’s the size she is now she finds it easier to ignore stereotypical conventions bc it’s further from her reality and so she might as well be happy with her body that way bc she’s never gonna be what they want. And I just. Have always been so close. But just never quite pretty enough. Idk. I just wish one of the most prominent parts of womanhood wasn’t 24/7 being so aware of what’s wrong with you rather than what’s right

Alice was still running in the Scarabia dorm trying to hide from the girl who overblotted known as Jamila Viper

When did it get so hectic? Alice only knew that he was staying on campus for the winter holiday, helping Yuu around, when they got dragged to scarabia and not let out. So they broke out after the futile attempts at contacting Crowley or anyone else for the matter and ended at Octavinelle. From there, it emerged a whole operation which led to Jamila's plan being exposed and her going bonkers in a last attempt of getting away.

Right now she was hiding in the guest room, away from the overblotted servant and put her hand on her mouth to prevent any noises from herself.

'Please don't notice, please don't notice!' She thought to herself scared. When the noise wasn't there she finally took a deep breath and opened the door and that's when she saw Jamila over there, she panicked and closed the door 'No, no no! She wasn't supposed to be there! Holy crap what am I gonna do?!' She thought to herself as she put her hand on her mouth to prevent any noises from herself again.

"Oh Alice~, I know your in there sweetheart~" a familiar voice echoed out, Alice realized that's the overblotted servant. 'Oh no! She knows!' She thought to herself, as she tried to find a way out "Oh come on Alice, I know your in there my love~, come out come out wherever you are?~" the dark skinned girl said making the ginger haired girl squeak in fear. "Looks like I have no choice then.." Alice said to herself, then she opened the door quietly and quickly.

She managed to sneak away from the hypnotized Scarabia students and saw the area AKA the area where Yuu and the Octatrio we're thrown.

Screaming. Farah could only scream her lungs out as she was thrown along Yuu, Grim, and the Octatrio through the air, much faster than a bullet.

But when she overblots, Jamila end up thrown out Yuu, Grim and the Octatrio to the end of the dessert but Alice was kept at the dorm.

Alice was so terrified that she ran away, and hide in the guest rooms but unfortunately that also got the attention of the dark skinned girl who just overblotted.

"Servants scatter and find Alice!" Jamila ordered at the now hypnotized Scarabia students.

Jamila sighed as she looked at the direction where Alice ran, she giggled evily but softly "Alice, I'm coming for you my love~" She said as she's flying after the young girl.

Flashback ended

Alice looked at the area again and took a deep breath, she's going to find Yuu, Farah, and the Octatrio.

But before she could jump a voice echoed out "You won't leave... My rose..." An inky armmed grabbed the ginger making her yelp in pain, Alice wasn't able to contact Crowley, Deuce and everyone else. When did it get so crazy?! First they got lock to Scarabia, then we end up at Octavinelle, now Jamila overblot! What kind of life did she have?!

"J-just let me go Jamila-senpai!" She said as she tried to get out of his gripped but couldn't since she's too strong, suddenly Alice made an eye contact with Jamila's eyes and felt a sudden piercing hot around her chest"Sleep.. My rose. "Jamila said as the girl felt sleepy in her arms

Alice woke up in Jamila's room at first she's confused on how did she get here, but she looked down and realize that she's wearing a red harem girl dress(AKA Jasmine's red dress) and when she looked at her right arm and saw a chain on it. 'Why did I woke up in chains?! Why am I wearing this outfit?!' She thought as she tried to get herself out of the chains but it won't work.

"That wouldn't work my love." A voice said making Ace freak out, and turned her head to the door only to see her upperclassmen Jamila… floating there with a big smile on her face.

"J-jamila-senpai?" Alice said weakly as she looked at Jamila, to be honest Jamila looked beautiful but terrifying with the medusa-like hair.

The overblotted servant sat down on the bed, the snakes that surrounded her hissed at Alice. They tried slithering at her but Alice backed away far enough for them to not touch her, then Jamila pulled her close by grabbing her wrist, she pulled Alice onto her lap. Now starting to stroke her ginger red hair who was tied up to a ponytail by a red ribbon.

"W-why haven't you thrown me out at the dessert like Yuu, Farah, Grim, Azulina, Sapphire and Floyd?" Alice said with fear in her eyes. "Because I love you." Said Jamila as she pulled the gingerhead closer to her"Ever since you joined the basketball club, I'll can't keep my eyes off of you, your fluffy ginger hair, your scarlet red eyes, your fair skin and your body. Your so beautiful that I can't even go on a single day thinking about you, and I can't even stand seeing you with that bastard Deuce. From now on your with me and me only." The dark skinned girl said seductive at the "And your mine. All mine" She said to the ginger haired girl show as in fear.

That's when Scarabia student A interrupted them "Umn Master, some people wanted to see you." She said, Jamila looked at the ginger haired girl"I'll be right back sweetie." She said and kissed Alice and left.

In an effort to spread positivity, what is your favorite thing about your 3-5 least favorite Nancy Drew games?

Oh that's a great question :) and I'm also gonna talk about my least favorite games in another post and why I don't like them that much so here's my favorite thing of these games:

MED: even though the plot looks like a hallmark movie to me :/ the favorite thing to me about this game is the atmosphere of the survival show since I've been watching survival shows while growing up. So seeing this in a Nancy Drew game is nostalgic and wholesome.

TMB: If I could say my most favorite thing in this game in one word I would and that would be Jamila and yes that's a word because the beautiful in the Arabic language is actually Jamil جميل which is also used to describe a male and Jamila جميلة is also used for the same purpose but only for females and both of them are used as names. so it's obvious that Jamila is the favorite in this game because she's a good representation of hijabi woman since I'm a hijabi myself and Her interactive did a fantastic job at it.

SPY: The cookies lmao but seriously though even thought it had plot holes in the story I loved Kate's Drew's story I really liked that Nancy looks her mother and the game proved it to me more.

I kind of thought it was a middle name challenge too. He said I thought it was James it's Jamila. Jamila is her middle name. The only thing I could think was something in regards to Jameela Jamil. But I don't know I just picture her being like it starts with a J I can't believe you don't know my middle name lol

Mohammed al-Hajjar from Rimal, in Gaza City, remembers the Atallah family, saying:

Supermarkets and newsagents have also been levelled. One of the most important in the neighbourhood was the Atallah Supermarket, owned by the Atallah family. It was bombed, as was the residential block adjoining it, wiping out the Atallah business and most of the family with it. The attacks killed at least 35 children and young members of the Atallah family. Among them was a young man with a lively sense of humour, who worked as a cashier at the store. He was always cracking jokes and spreading joy among customers. He will be deeply missed.
