Fic Recs: "Didn't see that one coming" edition...
I've been wanting to start collecting my all time favorite stories in ages but never knew where to start, there are just too many talented souls out there. A lazy day of re-reading favorites makes me want to finally give it a try though.
Featuring today: stories that defy my usual hunting patterns but still became all time favourites against all odds. Stories leaving me utterly gobsmacked thinking "That was so, soo awsome... but how on earth did I end up in this fandom / character / trope tag of all places?".
@messy-insomniac-bookgirl Let's be honest: this writer is the spirit animal of this specific selection. Never heard of the fandom? Dislike the protagonist with a passion? Doesn't matter: she writes it, I devour and love it. The reason? Dense and hugely rewarding story-telling, perfect pacing, side characters you want to adopt on the spot, delicious slow burns with sooo much yearning. And, most importantly, the awesome female OCs. I am in love with each and every one of them, regardless who they share a screen with. It's almost impossible to select just one story for this list but let's go for "Keep Calm and Buckle Up" (AO3) for suddenly making me feel things when Steve Rogers entered the stage in "Infinity War". Steve Rogers x OFC, James "Bucky" Barnes x OFC, Steve x Bucky x OFC. Action, slow burn, emotional roller coaster rides. Rated E.
@batsingotham "Written in the stars" (AO3) I don't do Soul Mate AUs. I don't do Robert Pattinson characters. For me the best things about "The Batman" were Andy Serkis' Alfred and 3 hours of Niravana in a loop. But the undisputed goddess queen of slow burn domestic fluff overruled all of that. Bruce Wayne/Reader. Soulmate AU. Dorks in love. Bruce needs a hug and Alfred has the patience of a saint. Rated M.
"Sweet Conversations" by @glassgulls Lord of the Rings has been living in my head rent free ever since I was a teenager but I simply don't do Elves. Period. Yes, Glorfindel is very cool and Lee Pace's Thranduil is an absolute vision (the costumes, the voice and the make up, mind you, don't get me started on any other aspect of the Hobbit movies though...) but otherwise? Thanks but no thanks. Nevertheless: the award for best fictional kiss I’ve come across in ages goes to this gem. Amazing scene setting and character work for something so short. Leaves you weak-kneed and high as a kite on serotonin for the rest of the day. Haldir/Reader. One-shot. Rated M.
„Ownership of Mine“ by @amywritesthings . Okay, lets be honest, peeps: Prison settings for a romance story? Seriously? Who in their right mind would be able to think about romance and seduction when all of your freedom is taken away, you are crammed into a small and dark space with people of questionable character and put under constant surveilance. Well… apparently I can… with this story. Even if that tag is a big red NO GO sign for me otherwise. Amazingly dense story telling and atmosphere building in just 3 short chapters. Kino Loy/Reader. Rated E.
„Directions“ by @zinzinina . Probably a sure sign that I am getting too old for all of this but tags about age gaps, first love or first times usually make me run for the hills. Add a character like Poe Dameron (I mean: come on! Howww…?!) to the mix and there is not enough willing suspension of disbelieve in the world to get me immersed in the plot. Or so I thought. Unwisely. Until this beauty came along. Poe Dameron/Reader. Rated E.

Bucky wakes with a gasp. The feeling of cold water being dumped on him brings him out of his nightmare. He turns his head and glares, only to be met with a pair of brown eyes glaring back at him. Bucky angrily swipes his hand down his face to collect the dripping liquid, “what the hell?!”
“I should’ve done worse with how badly you treated Y/n.” Sam walks over and begins to pick up the mess that litters the place, “I mean, you also treated everyone else like complete shit, but man. You just had to break the one girl completely in love with you.”
A frown appears on Bucky’s face, his brows furrowing as he tries to recall everything that happened. “What do you mean? Wait… Where’s Y/n?” He quickly stands and looks through the apartment, noticing that all her things are gone. He storms toward Sam, grabbing the collar of his shirt and lifting him. “Where the fuck is she?! What the fuck do you mean I broke her?!”
“You don’t remember?” Sam grunts as he’s dropped, looking up at an equally confused Bucky. “So, you don’t recall treating your girl like shit, telling her that you’ve basically fucked someone else, treating the rest of your friends and me like shit and then nearly being taken out by a S.W.A.T team because you went full winter soldier?” Sam watches the lost man shake his head, saddened by the news given to him.
“I–I did all that? How?” Tears begin to fill Bucky’s eyes as everything returns to him, his heart breaking as he remembers the heartbroken look on your face. A soft no falls from his lips. He flinches when he feels Sam pat his shoulder, “where is she?” Bucky's blue eyes meet Sam’s brown ones, needing to find his girl and beg for her forgiveness.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea.” He gulps when Bucky glares, “fine. She’s currently out with someone. First date kinda thing.” Sam quickly steps back when Bucky’s nostrils flare, his hands going up. “You’ve been out a month, man. She finally glued back together her heart, so give her a break.” Bucky shakes his head and leaves, not before getting the address and hopping on his motorbike.

When Bucky arrives at the restaurant, he quickly hops off his bike and rushes to the building but stops when he catches sight of Y/n. There she was, sitting across from an unknown man, looking gorgeous as ever. Bucky sighs and hangs his head as he realises how much he’d screwed up.
He turns and starts to walk back to his bike when the pretty colours of a flower shop catches his attention. His sad blue eyes stare at the small shop for a few seconds before deciding to head over and get Y/n some flowers. When he enters the store, it makes his heart hurt more when Bucky realises he stopped getting his girl flowers, stopped showing her attention, and it was never her that was the problem. It was him. Bucky hates himself for what he did and wishes he was strong enough to break out of the mind control.
He’s broken out of his thoughts when a little old lady touches his arm, “are you okay, dear? Are you looking for something specific?” Bucky looks at the small woman and slowly nods, muttering something about a mixture of flowers that have a meaning of love and apology. She nods before waddling somewhere and preparing the flowers for him. Bucky’s too lost in his mind to start a conversation. When she returns with the flowers, he goes to pay, but she waves him off. “On the house, go and get them back, dear.” He thanked her before walking out of the building, sneakily leaving a large amount of money under a flower pot.
When Bucky exits the shop, Y/n exits the restaurant with a sad and broken expression. No one knows why, but at that moment, the two looked up, their eyes connecting, causing a spark to shoot through the air. Slowly they begin to move toward each other, both cautious as their hearts beat fast.
A shaky breath leaves them as they get close, and Bucky gulps as his mouth begins to dry. “I–I’m sorry… I don’t know what happened, and I just came back today and found out I hurt you.” Tears form in their eyes as Bucky continues to ramble on, sobs leaking out of his throat. Feeling his world falling apart, his hand slowly thrusts out as he hands the flowers to you. “I… I remembered that I used to bring you flowers all the time and then suddenly stopped, and I don’t know why?” He looks at Y/n like a kicked puppy, not knowing how to fix this.
Y/n takes a few deep breaths, and her eyes solemnly focus on the bouquet in her hands. Tears are brought to her eyes when she thinks back to the happier times when Bucky would come home with the biggest smile, no matter how bad the mission went. He’d come over and smother her in love. He’d always lighten up the home with a mixture of flowers, chocolates and loving words. But then he went on this one mission and never returned the same. The fights started, with no loving words, no flowers or chocolates. The house became cold and dark, leaving an angry super soldier and a broken woman to try and live with each other.
She looks up and stares into Bucky’s broken gaze, “I remember when I met you.” She takes a shaky breath, “it was so clear you were the only one for me.” A tear falls, and Bucky’s fingers twitch as they itch to wipe it away and hold her. “But I wasn’t the only one for you, and that hurts” Bucky shakes his head rapidly, his mouth opening and closing, and his breath hitches.
“No, doll. No, you were always the only one for me. I never.” He falls to the ground, the gravel digging into his knees as he begins to sob. “I never cheated. Please believe me. I would never want anyone else other than you!” His metal and flesh arms wrap around Y/n’s lower half, his face digging into her stomach as he weeps. “I–I don’t know why those words came out, I don’t know why I was so harsh, but when I woke and felt like myself, I felt so lost and broken when I found out you were gone.” A louder sob leaves Bucky when Y/n’s hand comes down and rests on his head, her fingers running through his hair as she tries to calm him. “P–please give me a chance, please.”
Y/n looks up, her vision blurry as she tries to control her breathing. She still loves him. Of course, she did. He was her soulmate, the man she wanted to grow old with, to have kids and grandkids with. She was left so broken when he came home that day, more broken when she never got a proper goodbye, but now she has that choice to go or stay. “I–” Y/n gulps, not knowing if she wants the truth, but she has to have it for the decision to be made. “I need to know who you were thinking of that night….”
Bucky looks up, confused, tears still in his eyes. “What do you mean?”
Y/n takes a deep breath, “Y–you said I should be more like someone… But you never finished. Who should I be more like, James? If you weren’t cheating, then why bring it up?” Their eyes are locked with one another, Bucky's eyes close as the words hit him full force, and he shakes his head.
“I–it’s hard to explain….” His heart hurts more when you speak his given name.
“No, it’s not, James. You either tell me, or this is goodbye. I will disappear, and you will never be able to find me.” Y/n breathes out, her chest tightening at the thought of saying goodbye to him forever.
Bucky looks down in defeat. The woman he was talking about flashes through his mind. He shakes his head, not wanting to say it out loud. “I–I can’t, please, doll. I never cheated. Please believe me.” He looks into Y/n’s eyes, pleading with her as he can feel and see Y/n start to pull away.
“Okay, well…” Y/n strokes his cheek, a tear falling from both their eyes, “I guess this is goodbye.” She kneels in front of him, both hands holding his cheeks as they keep the sobs from leaving their lips. Pleas fall from Bucky’s lips, needing her to understand and listen. Y/n leans forward and places a soft kiss against his lips. “I will always love you, Bucky. I hope you find happiness.” And with that, Y/n stands before slowly walking off, sobs leaving her as she leaves her broken heart behind with the man she loves.
“It was my ma….” Bucky croaks out, knowing you are too far to hear. There he kneels, broken and sobbing, as he feels his heart rip out of his chest and follow his girl.
Tumblr media
It’s been a year since the two lovers split, having said their last goodbye in the middle of the street.
Y/n moved somewhere secluded, and she finally got her dream home surrounded by nature. She just never got her dream life.
Bucky stayed. If alcohol affected him, then he’d be dead. He was broken, lost, and his nightmares had come back. The only thing was that they weren’t about Hydra and his torture. No, they were much worse. It was a repeat of everything he had done and said to you that day and more, and it kept changing. Every time he closed his eyes, the nightmares would be different yet the same.
Sam couldn’t watch this anymore. Today he decided to barge into the sad excuse of Bucky's apartment and force him to get up and shower. “What the hell? Go away! Let me whither away in peace!” Sam ignores Bucky's grumbling as he grabs clothes and forces the older man to put them on once he’s out of the shower.
“You're going to suck it up, stop being a miserable old man and go get your girl.” Sam scribbles down Y/n’s address, knowing she’s as lost without Bucky as he is without her.
“She doesn’t want to see me, I fucked up, and there’s no going back.” Bucky grunts as he pulls his shirt on, groaning when Sam shoves the paper into his chest before dragging him to the door and practically pushing him out.
“Go and get her or I will rip your metal arm off and whack you with it.”
Bucky takes a deep breath as the door slams in his face, looking down at the piece of paper. He feels a slither of hope enter him, and Bucky decides to give it one last try because you are his world, and he simply can’t let you go. He quickly jogs down to where his motorbike sits and hops on, the rev of the engine filling the streets as he zooms off.
Tumblr media
When Bucky arrived at the address and got off his motorbike, he had to pause when he saw the house. His breath hitches and tears are brought to his eyes when he realises it’s the house the two of you planned to build. He slowly walks toward the front door by stepping on the cutest little stone path. He lifts his hand to knock when he reaches the door but pauses.
He hesitates as he doesn’t want to intrude, but before he can think to turn away, the door swings open and on the other side is Y/n, eyes wide and bottom lip trembling. “What? How?” Her eyes drift to his bike and then to his eyes.
“I recognised the sound of your bike….” The tension in the air felt awkward, neither of them knowing what to do. Bucky is about to open his mouth and say he’ll go, but Y/n cuts him off. “Come in” She moves to the side, opening the door wider as he slowly steps in.
Tumblr media
Y/n walks over to the table and places the cup of hot coffee in front of Bucky before taking a seat across from him with her cup, and her eyes are focused on how broken and tired he looks. “Oh, Bucky, you haven’t been taking care of yourself, have you?”
Bucky looks down ashamed, not noticing the small woman get up until she kneels before him. His dull blue eyes lock onto hers, the spark lighting up again. “Why not? This isn’t good for you.” A sigh of relief leaves his lips when her soft hands rest on his cheeks.
“I can’t live without you, so I stopped living altogether.” He shrugs like it meant nothing, this year had been a nightmare for the both of them, yet their hearts and souls still yearned for each other.
A gasp slips Y/n’s lips, and her thumb wipes away the tears falling from his eyes. “...I couldn’t live without you either” She takes a shaky breath before continuing, “living in our dream house has been a nightmare. I keep thinking that you’d come home and greet me with flowers, but I’m stuck with the memory of me saying goodbye, and I regret it so much.” More tears fall from their eyes, “c–can you forgive me?”
Bucky's brows furrow, confused as to why you needed forgiveness when it was his fault, to begin with. His mouth opens and closes before finally settling on the one thing you need to hear. “It was my ma… When I brought up another woman, it was her. Something brought her up while I was in that state, and I missed her. I was never seeing someone else. I would never do that to you.”
A squeak of surprise escapes his mouth as he’s tackled. Y/n’s lips connect with Bucky’s. Their lips move together slowly, and her hands move to his hair as he moves to grab Y/n’s face. The two lovers feel their souls begin to connect again. Stitching together and becoming one. Bucky leans forward, kissing Y/n deeper and full of passion before they pull back to catch a breath.
He rests his forehead against hers, “I love you so much, doll and if you’ll have me. I want to bring our dream to life.”
Y/n nods, pulling back and staring Bucky deep into his beautiful blue eyes, her hands still tangled in his hair as she strokes it. “I think we both suffered long enough.” Her hand slowly moves down and cups his cheeks. She leans forward and pecks his lips softly. “I love you so much too.” Y/n squishes his cheeks slightly while staring into his eyes. “But if you ever hurt me again, no one will ever find your body. Understand?”
Bucky’s eyes widen as he nods, pecking her lips repeatedly and repeating that he’d never hurt her again. Y/n stands and holds her hands out, “now come on. You look like you need some sleep.”
Whilst they make their way to the bedroom, Sam smiles and turns RedWing around. “Finally.”

Tumblr media
5 months later after Dot and Bucky's meeting (i.e. 3 months earlier)
Dot's POV
Taking a deep breath, I enter the restaurant with a gentle smile, scrolling through my phone to check for any messages. Spotting Bucky at a table, looking out the window, I smile and walk up to him, putting a hand on his shoulder to make my presence known.
He jumps a little at the sudden touch, turning to see me, a breath of relief escaping him. "Oh. It's you…haha yeah, it's you," he says, his tone a mix of surprise and nervousness. Ignoring his initial reaction, I reply with a smile, "Yes, of course, it's me—on our date, whom you were expecting." I tease him playfully, and he chuckles, shaking his head. "No, no… nothing… Yes, you are right, my bad, doll."
As Bucky chuckles at my teasing remark, I decide to add a bit more to lighten the mood.
"You know, for a moment there, I thought I might have been replaced by a secret agent or something. I mean, the way you reacted, I half-expected you to say, 'The eagle has landed, mission accomplished,'" I quip, a playful glint in my eyes.
Bucky bursts into a genuine laugh, his earlier tension dissipating. "Well, you caught me off guard. Next time, I'll try to keep my spy skills in check," he jokes, raising an imaginary spy hat.
We share a laugh, the atmosphere lightening, and I take a seat across from him. The initial surprise forgotten, we settle into the easy rhythm of a date, enjoying each other's company amidst the cozy ambiance of the restaurant.
In the midst of our date, he excuses himself for a bathroom break, and as I patiently wait, a soft glow emanates from his phone. Intrigued unintentionally, I glance at the screen, revealing 24 unread messages from someone labeled 'wife.' The weight of that word hits me like an unexpected storm, and my breath catches. I double-check, my eyes fixated on the screen, and time seems to come to a standstill. Emotions surge within me—a tumultuous blend of confusion, heartache, and an unfamiliar ache that words struggle to define. It's an unusual feeling, foreign yet poignant, as the realization dawns that I might have merely been a fleeting moment in the tapestry of his life that he shred.
As he returns from the bathroom, I attempt to hide the inner turmoil, plastering a smile on my face. The weight of the discovered messages lingers, creating an invisible barrier between us. We resume our conversation, but my mind is a filled of thoughts, swirling with unspoken questions. The restaurant buzzes around us, but something's off.
As the evening unfolds, the once vibrant colors of our date now seem muted. There's a feeling like things were messed up—the threads of his life kind of tangled. Silence wraps around us, punctuated by the clinking of cutlery and distant chatter. The air between us gets heavy, and we sit in quiet, the noise of the place highlighting the unspoken things hanging there.
"Are you okay?" His hand on mine grounds me, but I'm lost in a whirlwind of uncertainty. I nod quietly, my lips parting, struggling to find words to calm the chaos within.
Questions torment me—confront or ignore? Logic demands answers, but my heart quivers at the thought of the truth. I stare at him, silently pleading for reassurance, as if hoping he'll unveil this as a prank, a figment of my imagination.
The unsettling image lingers, and with a heavy sigh, I unconsciously let out, loud enough for him to hear, "It's all a mess." Each word carries the weight of confusion, hurt, and a yearning for things to make sense again.
Days pass, the weight of the unanswered questions lingering between us. The air is thick with tension, and I find myself unable to carry the burden of uncertainty any longer.
One evening, as we sit in a quiet corner of the park, I gather the courage to break the silence. The golden hues of the setting sun cast a warm glow, yet my heart is heavy with the unspoken.
Taking a deep breath, I look into Bucky's eyes, searching for the truth I desperately need. "Bucky, there's something on my mind, and I can't keep pretending everything is okay. I saw those messages, the ones from your 'wife.' Can you please help me understand? I need to know what's happening."
The words hang in the air, and the park's serene ambiance contrasts with the storm brewing within me. His reaction, his response—everything is poised on the edge, waiting to unravel the tangled threads of our story.
"Bucky," I shake him gently, my voice trembling with fear and desperation. "Who's she? Are you married?" I ask again, louder this time, my hands shaking as I cling to the hope that it's all just a misunderstanding. "Tell me it's not true. TELL ME IT'S NOT WHAT I THINK IT IS!" I shout, unable to contain the rising panic and anguish within me.
My outburst attracts a few curious glances from passersby, but I try to regain control, taking a deep breath to steady myself as tears well up in my eyes.
"I… I need to go," I whisper, a quiet plea to escape the unbearable truth. As I make to leave, I see the disbelief in Bucky's eyes, his shaky breath betraying his inner turmoil. His silent plea begs me to stay, to listen, but I can't bear to look at him any longer. Disappointment floods me as I meet his gaze, shaking my head in silent reproach. Closing my eyes, I let a few tears slip down my cheeks before gathering my purse and walking away, leaving him alone at the table.
After reaching home, I close the door behind me, leaning against it as tears cascade down my cheeks, finally allowing myself to release the flood of emotions I've been holding back.
"I trusted him," I whisper to myself, the words heavy with betrayal and disbelief. I sink to the floor, clutching my legs to my chest, burying my face in my hands as I cry. Each sob feels like a dagger to my heart, a painful reminder of the shattered trust and broken dreams.
As the minutes pass, I cry like a child, the weight of my heartache crushing me. I curse myself for being so foolish, for letting my guard down and allowing myself to love so deeply. Bright colors of hope and happiness that once filled my heart now seem distant and faded, replaced by a darkness that threatens to consume me once more.
The pain is unbearable, a relentless ache that pierces through every fibre of my being. I feel lost and alone, abandoned by the one person I thought was my safe haven. It hurts—oh, how it hurts—more than I ever thought possible.
"I gave it my all, and he gave me nothin' at all," I murmur to myself, the words heavy with resignation and sorrow. In the quiet solitude of my home, surrounded by the echoes of my own pain, I confront the harsh reality of unrequited love. Despite pouring my heart and soul into the relationship, it feels like I've received nothing in return but heartache and disappointment. It's a bitter pill to swallow, knowing that I gave everything I had to someone who couldn't—or wouldn't—meet me halfway.
The days stretched on, each one a painful reminder of the shattered pieces of my heart. I bury myself in work, in hobbies—anything to distract myself from the gaping void left by Bucky's betrayal. But no matter how busy I kept myself, his absence lingered like a haunting shadow.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the world outside grew still, there comes a hesitant knock at my door. My heart skipped a beat as I approached, uncertainty mingling with a flicker of hope.
Opening the door, I am met with the sight of Bucky, his usual confident demeanour replaced by an uncharacteristic vulnerability. "Can we talk?" he asked softly, his voice tinged with regret.
Part of me wanted to slam the door shut, to shut him out like he had shut me out. But another part—a part that still holds onto the memories of love and laughter—couldn't turn him away.
I nod silently, stepping aside to let him in. We sit in awkward silence for a moment, the weight of our unspoken words hanging heavy in the air.
"I'm sorry," he finally whispers, his eyes pleading for forgiveness. "I messed up. I never meant to hurt you."
His words stir something inside me—anger, hurt, but also a lingering spark of longing. Against my better judgment, I find myself drawn to him, the magnetic pull between us undeniable.
Before I can stop myself, I close the distance between us, my hand reaching out to touch his cheek. Our eyes meet, and in that moment, the floodgates of desire open, the tension crackling between us like electricity.
One kiss leads to another, and soon we are lost in a hunger that had been brewing quietly. Clothes fell away, our inhibitions tossed aside as we surrendered to the primal longing that surged within us.
In the heat of the moment, all thoughts of pain and betrayal melted away, replaced by the intoxicating rush of passion and desire. We collapse into each other's arms, spent and breathless, even though I know it is wrong, even though he has a wife.
Soon I find myself entangled in an illicit affair.
Make sure nobody sees you leave
Hood over your head, keep your eyes down
Tell your friends you're out for a run
You'll be flushed when you return
Take the road less traveled by
Tell yourself you can always stop
What started in beautiful rooms
Ends with meetings in parking lots
And that's the thing about illicit affairs
And clandestine meetings and longing stares
It's born from just one single glance
But it dies, and it dies, and it dies
A million little times
Leave the perfume on the shelf
That you picked out just for him
So you leave no trace behind
Like you don't even exist
Take the words for what they are
A dwindling, mercurial high
A drug that only worked
The first few hundred times
And that's the thing about illicit affairs
And clandestine meetings and stolen stares
They show their truth one single time
But they lie, and they lie, and they lie
A million little times
And you wanna scream
Don't call me "kid"
Don't call me "baby"
Look at this godforsaken mess that you made me
You showed me colors
You know I can't see with anyone else
Don't call me "kid"
Don't call me "baby"
Look at this idiotic fool that you made me
You taught me a secret language
I can't speak with anyone else
And you know damn well
For you, I would ruin myself
A million little times

Patience
Pairing : Mafia!Bucky x OFC
Summary : Bucky Barnes wants her, and he is ready to wait...
Author's note : Not beta read. Some of the many little stories I have in my head. Maybe a future fic ?
Tumblr media
There he was, leaning against his car, waiting for her. Just like every time she finished work. And it was the same in the morning. He waited in the same way, ready to accompany her. And every day she would meet his eyes and decide to take the bus.
But Bucky Barnes was a patient man. And patience always pays off in the end. Like today. It had been a long and complicated day. The buses were full and she didn't have the strenght to stand in the cold until the next one came along.
She'd be lying if she said that he was the only reason. This man looked after her. He gave her the attention she needed. He wanted her. Her and no one else. Something that no-one before him had ever offered her.
As she walked towards him, took his hand, let him kiss it, got into the car with him, she knew she was crossing a point of no return. But she did all this without regret.

“Make sure the door is locked, keep your cell phone on you, not in your purse, on your person. If you need something off the compound, have it delivered to security, don’t leave…”
“Don’t leave the compound. Bucky, I will be fine. There’s nowhere safer than this compound right?” Carina kissed him after cutting him off. “And you’re only going to be gone a few days right?”
Bucky sighed, but nodded his head. They had spent the past two weeks holed up in Bucky’s, well now both of theirs apartment. The others had nauseatingly called it their honeymoon phase. The morning after he had claimed her, Carina woke up alone in bed to a bang and whispered cursing. Pulling on one of Bucky’s shirts and some sweats she had left their bedroom to find Sam rubbing his thigh while Bucky and Steve moved boxes around the living room. Upon closer inspection the boxes had been haphazardly packed with the contents of her apartment.
When she had mentioned that she could have helped if he had woken her, he had simply shrugged and mumbled something about “Tony needed the other place” before heading off to get the rest of her stuff. That night she had marked him and he had worn it openly and proudly at every opportunity.
They had heard the news the day before that Brock had somehow escaped and been spotted near a suspected Hydra facility in Venezuela. Bucky hadn’t been on a mission since he had claimed her but Brock’s escaping and joining Hydra had been an “all hands” call that he couldn’t ignore. He didn’t like the idea of leaving her but she should be safe here. He waved his hand at Fury who was yelling at him to get on the Quinjet, before kissing her and jogging over to the entrance. She stood with Pepper on the helipad and he watched her until she was out of sight.

Waving to one of the tech's walking the opposite way, Carina stretched her arms and followed the trail. Waking up without Bucky by her side, combined with feeling the physical distance through their bond made her anxious so she had opted to try out the walking trail that wound around the compound. It had recently been extended and she had been itching to try it out.
Breathing deeply she enjoyed the fresh air as she continued on. Despite it being a nice day, she had only seen the tech on the path. Checking her phone, she smiled at the background picture of her and Bucky before sliding it back into the pocket on her leggings and continuing onward. As she approached an area where she could just make out the tall concrete and barbed wire fence that surrounded the compound, she heard a yowling sound accompanied by a low whine. It was coming from the edge of the treeline just off the trail. Looking around, Carina couldn’t see anyone nearby.
Her phone felt heavy in her pocket, Bucky would want her to let someone else take care of it, not go charging into the forest on her own. Biting her lip she looked up the trail again, still no one. Pulling her phone, she frowned when she saw the no service signal flash. Tony must not be aware of a dead spot on his compound. The poor animal made another pitiful moan and Carina’s omega instincts kicked in. She scented the air carefully, she couldn’t let whatever it was suffer the time it would take to run back and find someone. Not smelling anyone but herself and a mix of animals and nature she slowly headed towards the sound. Eyes focused on locating the injured animal she didn’t see or hear the shadow until it grabbed her, one arm covering her mouth while the other plunged a syringe straight into Bucky’s mark on her neck.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Lower level clear. Ow, fuck.” Bucky yelled, one hand leaving his gun to clutch Carina’s bite.
There was a mutter of sounds on the coms before Steve’s voice rang out. “Buck! You good? On way to your location.”
A few minutes later Steve rounded the corner to find Bucky leaning against the wall, hand still pressed to his neck, a look of pain and worry etched into his features. “Bucky, what’s wrong?” He yelled, looking for injuries.
“It’s our mating bond, something’s wrong.” Bucky grunted, pushing himself off the wall. “It feels like lava is being injected into the mark. I have to call Carina.” He accepted Steve’s help as they headed towards the jet.
Once outside, Natasha met them looking uncharacteristically worried. “There’s nothing here, we’ve run all the scans. The perimeter is fortified but that’s it. It’s a dud.”
Tony appeared from the jet, pausing before meeting Bucky’s eyes, “It was a distraction. Carina’s missing. Pepper said she went for a walk on the trail but her phone is going straight to voicemail and the location isn’t pinging anywhere. I launched a search of the compound but no one has found any sign of her yet.”
“We’re leaving now.” Bucky whispered but the coldness in his tone made everyone glance at each other nervously as he stalked towards the jet.
“Bucky, we need to figure out a plan.” Steve tried but Bucky whirled around cutting him off.
“Brock has my mate Steve, my omega, he set all this up to get me away from her.” He took a deep breath before continuing. “Where I wouldn’t be there to protect her.” His voice cracked at the end and Steve nodded, gesturing everyone to the jett.
The jett was a flurry of activity as Clint pushed it as fast as it could go and calls were made to the compound and surrounding area to track down any footage in the area.
“We don’t know for sure it was Brock, do we? Bucky should be able to use their bond and find her anyway, right?” Pepper’s face was worried on one of the screens.
“Who else could it be? We were called away because we thought he was out here, who else would know the best way to get her from the compound?” Bucky snapped, ignoring the warning look Tony shot him.
“Normally yes, Bucky would be able to use their bond” Dr. Strange interrupted, “But what he described sounds like they injected her with something to start dissolving the bond. It will immediately start weakening their conn….” he was cut off by Bucky’s roar of anger as he stalked towards the weapons.
“I made Brock a promise.” His voice was lethal as he loaded a gun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carina groaned as she slowly came to. There was a bright light shining in her eyes but when she went to shield it, she realized her hands were bound. Turning her head to the side she whimpered as pain erupted from her mark.
“Ah good, you're awake.” Carina blinked again, squinting to see a figure step into the light, shielding her eyes but making him hard to see. He reached to a table off to the side and grabbed another syringe. “Just in time for another round.”
This woke her up and she tried to move away but found her feet bound as well. Thrashing to try and loosen them only caused him to laugh. Stepping fully into her line of vision she gasped when she saw Brock standing over her. “This isn’t possible, you were in Venezuela. They saw you there.”
“They saw my very convincing body double there. But he’s long gone. In fact you’re little friends are probably encountering our surprise right about now.” Brock laughed, leaning over her and catching her neck as she tried to thrash away from him. He was too strong though and she stifled a scream as he jabbed the needle into the mark, injecting her quickly with what felt like molten lava.
“What…what is that?” She gasped, gritting her teeth against the pain.
Brock smiled, tossing the now empty syringe on the table before taking a seat. “Well, with Bucky out of the way thanks to the little surprise we left them at the empty compound, I thought it would be easier for us if I started dissolving your bond to him.”
“What little surprise?” The way he said “us” made her skin crawl but her mind caught on to his earlier statement.
“A completely unidentifiable bomb, none of their scans will pick it up but it should be enough to take out a super soldier…or two. He tacked on with an evil grin.
A sob broke from Carina before she could stop it as she desperately searched their bond for Bucky. She had been able to feel him the last couple weeks, almost like his heartbeat was right next to her own but now she felt nothing as a wave of sadness overwhelmed her.
“There there now, just a few more injections and all this pain will be replaced with our bond. None of this would have happened if Bucky hadn’t stolen you away in the first place. But I will fix all of it. We can grow old together happily carrying out Hydra’s wishes.” Carina was horrified at the conviction in his voice, as if her relationship with Bucky was a minor inconvenience that he could sweep away.
“Where are we?” Carina stifled her emotions and sniffed the air, trying to get an idea of where he had taken her. She had no idea how long she had been out and there were no windows in the room.
“Far away from New York, where those pesky Avengers won’t be able to find you.” Brock smiled before standing and heading out a door. The click of the lock bolting filled her with dread. Bound in a locked room, far away from home, Carina hung her head as tears escaped down her face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had taken three days for them to find any hint of where Carina could be. It was like she had vanished into thin air. Three days of feeling the agonizing burn through their weakening bond. Strange had informed him, from a distance, that every time he felt it meant she was likely receiving another dose. That thought had pushed Bucky harder than anything to figure out where she was. He has scoured the trail, finding the spot her location had last pinged from had uncovered a small speaker along with her crushed phone. Guessing she had been drawn off the trail by sounds from the speaker they searched the nearby area and discovered a tunnel made under the fence.
Much to Tony’s chagrin the area had managed to be cloaked from their radar, creating a dead spot that went undetected. Tracing the equipment had led them to the only break in the case. The company that made it was suspected Hydra so they pulled all the surveillance they had from the company. Combing through it they found a video of a man who, while heavily disguised, they were pretty sure had been Brock.
Tracking a trail of information on the vehicle had led them to a cabin nestled in a secluded forest in Idaho. Despite his desire to go in guns and fists blazing, Bucky had let Steve and the team do a sweep of the area. With their knowledge of the cloaking device Brock had left behind they were able to get through it and realize the cabin was just for show. It led to an underground bunker, where they assumed Carina was being held.
Knowing they had surprise on their side gave Bucky enough patience to wait as well. When they had left Venezuela, another team was sent in to destroy the base so it couldn’t be used in the future. They had found a bomb that would have taken out the whole team. Hoping it would cause Brock to lessen his security, Pepper had made a public statement that the former Winter Soldier, James Barnes had perished in the blast.
“Heat signatures look like a handful of mercenaries, they aren’t expecting us.” Natasha lowered the binoculars, turning to look at Steve and Bucky. Bucky had wanted to go alone but had finally relented and allowed Steve and Natasha to join him.
Cocking his gun Bucky nodded, “Take out whoever you want. Brock is mine. If anything happens, get Carina out.” He locked eyes with both of them before proceeding towards the cabin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A series of thumps above her head drew Carina out of her head. She had become aware at some point that she must be in a basement and that Brock wasn’t the only one in residence. She wasn’t sure how long she had been in this room but it felt like days. Brock came regularly. He refused to untie her after she had lashed out when he let her use the restroom. Since then he fed her by hand, it made her skin crawl but she had to keep up her strength somehow. He had offered to let her shower if he could join her but she had adamantly refused even though she was filthy.
The room was sparse including only a bed, table and chair. Most of her time was spent in the bed since her feet were still bound and the pain from the injections usually made her exhausted. She was glad for the sleep though, the agony of being awake knowing that Bucky was gone was overwhelming. Brock had barged in triumphantly slamming a newspaper down in front of her. A picture of Bucky on the front along with a release from Pepper’s office. She had sobbed, not even fighting Brock when he had injected her again.
Carina shuddered as she heard footsteps outside the door, jumping when Brock burst in looking pissed and waving a gun. He pulled her to her feet, practically dragging her out the door, a string of curses tumbling out of his mouth when he realized she couldn’t climb the stairs with her feet bound. Pulling a knife from his pocket he cut the ropes and pushed her up the stairs.
She stumbled up them as his gun dug into her back, she couldn’t use her hands and her legs were sore from being bound for days. Reaching the top, he shoved her into a small room and she gasped seeing Steve and Natasha taking out two guys, there were several other bodies on the floor. They must have heard her because they both turned and stepped towards her but stopped when Brock pressed the gun to her temple and pulled her back against his chest.
“Let her go Brock, we aren’t letting you take her.” Steve’s voice was full of authority.
“She belongs to me, I was going to make this nice for her. But you two have forced my hand.” Carina tried to resist as he pushed her head to the side with the gun and lowered his mouth to her neck. She felt his hot breath and saw the shock on Steve & Natasha’s face but then a loud shot rang out. Brock went down, pulling her with him. Natasha and Steve were there in a flash, Steve was pulling Brock off her while Natasha pulled her away from him, quickly slicing the ropes on her wrists. Her eyes were locked on the door as a figure stepped through and headed straight towards Brock.
“You don’t have to do this, we can take him in.” Steve said it softly, as if he felt he needed to but didn’t agree with the sentiment.
Brock growled through clenched teeth and fury flashed in his eyes as Bucky pulled a pistol from his hip holster, “I made him a promise once, touch my omega again.” Bucky aimed and pulled the trigger, everyone but him flinching as the shot echoed and Brock dropped with a thud.
“Bucky?” Carina sobbed as she tried to get to her feet, her legs giving out immediately. He dropped his gaze from Brock and hurried over to her and pulled her into his arms.
“I’m here,” he kissed her forehead as her face crumpled and she fell into his neck, breathing his scent in deeply. “Let’s go home.” Carina nodded in his arms and wrapped herself around him.

The Red Wedding.
Tumblr media
Summary: Weddings are times for Celebrations, but this wedding takes the cake.
Pairings: Mafia!Steve Rogers x OFC
Words: 3.6k
Warnings: Violence lots of violence, and Peggy Carter.
A/N: It's been a while and I'm super excited to post this. This is based on a scene from a movie I watched today that just made my jaw drop super different but has the same premise.
When one is young there is always that time when you picture the perfect wedding, the perfection in every detail from the large venue with the gorgeous view to the smallest ribbon that would be used. Everything was methodical. Yet here you stood blood splattering your beautiful pearl white dress, hair in disarray, mascara smudged and running, and a loaded gun in your hand.
Guests were frantically running around trying to find some sense of what the hell had just happened. From across the room, you watched your husband face you taking a step forward and then another until he was only a few feet away, you raised the gun pointing it at him, but not once did he flinch at your action.
“Me chingastes Steve, por ultima ves me chingastes hijo de puta.”
Taking a deep breath, you pulled the trigger.
-         3 Hours Earlier       -
The ceremony had been beautiful, Steve had gone all out on expenses never once asking anything from your parents. This had brought much joy to your father as he acted like the cat that ate the canary, every time he showed a hint of smugness you couldn’t help but roll your eyes sharing some meaningful glances with Steve.
In a sense yes, your father was earning a lot with your marriage to Steve, by having his business be administered by the biggest mafia boss in Brooklyn and if his price was to let him have his only child that was a sacrifice, he was willing to make. Well, not much of a sacrifice since you and Steve had been together for quite some time joined to the hip since he was a sickly kid until he rose in ranks and his abrupt puberty where he grew three times his size and could plummet anybody who looked at you funny into the ground.
With how long you both had been together it was almost inevitable for your engagement to be announced, everybody knew and everybody important was invited. With Steve and you deciding to keep the ceremony private (much to the chagrin of your father), with your parents, Bucky Steve’s best friend and righthand man, and Sam Steve’s other best friend present everything went smoothly just like you had always pictured.
The ride over to the venue was filled with heated kisses and touches that made you lose your breath; you could feel his smug smile as he kissed your neck. Everything was going as planned your entrance was greeted with big cheers and applauses, at some point you and Steve were separated he was being taken by Sam and Bucky to join the other boys while you took the liberty of greeting your other guest trying to make time before the real festivities began.
Half an hour later, after removing yourself from a painful conversation with your Tia where she went on and on about her newly installed backyard grill, you were able to meet with Steve again who looked a little disheveled but otherwise unharmed. He was grinning a stupid smile marking his face as he pulled you close, giving you small kisses and finally bringing you into a big hug, burying his nose into your hair.
“You don’t know how happy you’ve made me by tying yourself to me indefinitely.”
You huffed out a laugh hitting his chest at his remark, “Menso, I married you because I love you don’t be calling our marriage me tying myself to you.”
You gave him a small smirk, “I mean I can still get rid of you at any time.”
Steve let out a deep growl pulling you flush against him; you give a small yelp at his roughness trying to look around and see if anybody noticed, noting that most people were avoiding looking or walking toward your area. Steve jostled you again forcing your attention back to him, you knew Steve like the back of your hand and at that moment, you knew that if it would have just been the two of you Steve wouldn’t have hesitated to throw you over this table and fuck you into oblivion.
“Baby you really do know how to get me going, I can’t wait until we get home so I can fuck you into every surface that I can get you on.”
Bucky, who was the only person who was brave enough to come near you cleared his throat, he motioned behind him where several people had congregated to talk. Steve’s face turned stormy pulling away from you fixing himself to a proper state, he gave Bucky a nod who turned back towards the group, Steve looked pissed, and this worried you because you knew Steve and he would never let his emotions show especially in such an open venue where most of his competitors were present.
Whatever this was it was serious.
You grabbed his hand giving him a brief squeeze to let him know that it was okay, he gave a soft huff giving you a brief kiss before heading over to Bucky and the other men. You didn’t want anybody to see you worried, raising a glass to the DJ a soft cumbia started that got many people to join the dance floor keeping many busy and others distracted.
You watched Steve and the men as they talked in hurried hushed tones, you could see the tension building as one of the men who you knew was Tony who was from the Manhattan district showed something to Steve that made him madder. The music drowned out most people and they left you alone, just as you were beginning to relax you hear the tell-tale sign of your ringtone you knew you should have kept it silent, but you were waiting on a particularly important phone call from your firm for a recent case.
You grabbed your phone ‘UNKOWN NUMBER’ displayed across the screen, it confused you, so you let it ring not bothering to pick it up. The ringing stopped but soon after it started again, you knew you couldn’t ignore it any longer if they were going to keep insisting.
“Hello?”
“Finally, I get ahold of you!” A deep feminine voice answered through the line, “Congratulations on the wedding! You’re a lucky girl today.”
“Who is this? What do you want?” You looked around the room trying to see if you could spot anybody with a phone.
“Calm down kid, I just wanted to give you a little information on the man you just married,” The lady on the line laughed and you couldn’t help the annoyance that brought on you.
“Look lady I don’t know who the fuck you are but you’re getting on my fucking nerves.”
“Oh, sweetie I was just trying to make conversation, I just wanted you to know what your husband was doing or who he was doing just a few days a few days ago or specifically last Thursday.”
That stopped you cold, you knew exactly what she was talking about. Last week Steve had gone out early in the morning saying that he had an important meeting with a buyer, and he stayed out late almost coming home until early the next morning. You remembered since you had stayed up to wait for him and to finish working on some case files before you had to head out on your honeymoon.
“He worked me out all night until early morning, it was an amazing goodbye gift he gave me before he tied himself to you.”
At this point you were shacking both in anger and in sorrow at what could be the truth, you looked to where Steve was still preoccupied with his friends at that moment he looked up and caught your eye his face melted into something lovingly and you couldn’t help the choked sobbed that worked its way out your throat. You heard the lady on the line laugh at your sob and you knew that she was a sadistic bitch who was enjoying your pain.
“Quien chingados eres? You fucking bitch if you have the balls to call me on my wedding day and tell me all of this you should also have the balls to tell me your fucking name.”
She laughed again loving the fact that she was able to get you to this state, “You should ask him who Peggy Carter is and you’ll know in an instant that I’m not lying to you.”
The line went dead after and all you could focus on was the dial tone, you were fuming not just at this Peggy lady but at Steve for making you a fool. At this point you weren’t in control of yourself everything seemed so loud and too quiet as you made your way to Steve and the other men, pushing past them not caring who they were until Steve was the only thing you could see.
“Who the fuck is Peggy Carter?” Steve’s eyes widened at the name and all the other men in the group began to murmur amongst each other, but your focus was only on Steve who seemed to have lost all color.
“Baby how do you know that name?” His answer was enough to set you off as you punched his chest slapping the phone onto his chest, your only goal was to get answers from him and hurt him as much as you were hurting. Bucky tried to grab your arm, but Steve shook his head no and that just made you madder.
“Te la cogiste verdad hijo de puta? You fucked her a week before our fucking wedding, how could you?”
Steve was holding onto your arms trying to stop you from hitting him but also from hurting yourself, he pulled you forward until you were squished against his chest but that just felt like you were suffocating so you pushed him away.
“Answer me you fucking coward, did you fuck her?”
“No baby I would never do that to you, you know how much I love you.”
“Don’t lie to me Rogers or I swear to god I’ll fucking kill you.”
Just as Steve was about to answer a few gunshots ranged out across the room, Steve pushed you down until he was covering around you, and people began to run around as glass shattered and screams went around the room. Steve pushed you towards Bucky telling him to get you out of there as more shots were fired Bucky handed Steve a gun as he began to pull you towards the exit.
“Bucky let me go,” You screeched as you fought against him, he ignored you keeping himself close as he walked you towards the exit. From your position you couldn’t see much, just people running from every exit that they could find. Just as you were reaching the door you spotted a brown-haired woman walking towards where Steve was, seeming to ignore the chaos around and strolling towards your husband as if there was no care in the world. Her lips were painted a deep red matching her dress and something in you just knew.
This fucking bitch was Peggy Carter.
“Bucky you have to go to Steve, you have to tell him that Peggy is here.”
Bucky seemed to have come to the same conclusion as he watched Peggy making her way to where Steve was fighting some goon oblivious to her presence.
“I’ll be fine just go to Steve, give me a gun,” He whipped his head towards a conflicted look until he reached into his inner pocket and removed a gun for you.
“You better not make me regret this,” Were his last words until he was sprinting towards Steve dodging men as much as he could. You turned to the exit running towards the kitchen where you knew you could lose someone or find someplace to hide. Just as you reached the doors to outs you were yanked back by a strong force, slamming you onto the floor stealing your breath away.
You knew you only had seconds to react, you shot up a few rounds hoping something would hit. A grunt, and then a thump as the man fell over. There was blood and a lot of it, most of it had missed you but there was still a rogue spray that hit you. You got up shakily, you knew how to shoot a gun, but never had you killed someone like this.
Your insides felt loose and firm and you couldn’t help but throw up everything from that day until you were dry heaving. You must have taken too long because as soon as you steadied yourself somebody was already grabbing you. You tried to struggle against your grabber but stopped as you felt the barrel of the gun being pressed against your head.
“Don’t try anything sweetheart, now you and I are gonna take a little trip back into the reception” he started shoving you forward, “Can’t have you leaving your own party early now, can we?”
You grunted as he pushed you hard enough that your foot gave out a little, it wasn’t extreme, but it did cause you to start limping much to the annoyance of your captor. He pushed you towards the doors leading to the reception, Steve was bound to a chair Peggy was on his lap Bucky and Sam were surrounded by men keeping them from doing anything without getting killed. The moment the doors had slammed open everybody turned to you, Steve’s eyes seemed to widen as he looked at all the blood and your limping state, he began to fight against his restraints jostling Peggy out of his lap.
The gun being pressed to your temple stops him from doing anything else. Peggy huffs motioning for the man holding you to bring you forward. You didn’t have your gun anymore; Steve was incapacitated, and Bucky and Sam had every gun on them you knew that this looked like you had lost. The moment that you were close Peggy drew you into a hug, you recoiled trying to get away from her but a gun to your back stopped you.
“After our heart-to-heart through the phone, this is how you’re going to repay me?” Peggy pouted at you, and this made it clear she was crazy.
“Yeah, well I just saw it as some crazy bitch trying to ruin my perfect day, how would you see it?” That must have been the wrong thing as Peggy’s face became enraged, she swung her hand at you a sting running from your cheek where she struck you.
“Get the fuck away from her Peggy or I swear,” Steve yelled at her fighting to get himself off the chair, Peggy ignored him tooting in disagreement.
“Baby if you don’t stop trying to get out of that chair, I’ll start hurting your little bitch.” Steve seemed to be having a fight with himself trying to find a way to get out of this and get you to safety. Peggy walked towards Steve leaning down to whisper something in his ear that made him mad but made no move to fight.
“Now baby, how about you tell your wife about the wonderful time we had, how you told me how much you loved me and how the only reason why we couldn’t be together was that you were getting much more from the deal.”
Bucky, who was still on the ground, whipped his head towards you ready to say something but was stopped as the man behind him pressed the barrel into the back of his head stopping him.
“Just let her know baby, tell her what we did, and I promise you I’ll let her go.” Steve seemed to contemplate before dropping his head in defeat.
“It’s true, we were together last Thursday,” Steve made a face as if he was in pain, almost as if the words he was spitting out hurt, “I was having second thoughts about getting married, I didn’t know if you were the right person for me.”
Steve’s words hit you hard, all the pain and rage that was inside you was brewing and at this point, you were unsure if you were about to scream or throw up.
“Peggy she was there, and I took my chance to figure it out if you were what I wanted.” He lamely finished, his face twisted into a grimace but all you could see was Peggy’s stupid grin and that just made you angry. You slammed your heel into your captor and threw your head back until it collided with his face, and he released you with a yelp. Bucky and Sam seemed to have taken advantage of the distraction as they flew back against their own captors wrestling them into the ground. Steve slammed himself back smashing the chair into pieces to free himself. Your captor tackled you down, slamming your head into the floor obscenities flying at you before Steve practically ripped him off from you.
Peggy began to rush away but you took the chance from everybody’s distraction to go after her, you were unsteady, but she did not get far as you tackled her. She began to throw punches at you, one of them catching you in your cheek, the other splitting your lip, but you weren’t far off as you also landed your own blows.
“You fucking Perra, you ruined my wedding and I’m going to fucking kill you.”
Peggy reached around her trying to find a way to get you off her, her hands grazing the floor until she latched onto a shard of champagne glass from the earlier altercation. She lashed up cutting your arm and making you retreat as she tried to keep slashing at you. She rushed over trying to stab you screaming her head off at you as she did.
“He was mine; he was always mine and you fucking took him away you fucking bitch. He loves me not you.” She cried as she slashed your arms. You pushed her away as she stumbled back and fell just as she was going to get up, she was stopped by Bucky who had incapacitated everybody else.
Steve walked towards Bucky looking down at a struggling Peggy, “Take her somewhere else, we’ll deal with her later.”
You walked away, your leg was starting to hurt and the cuts from the glass were stinging, this wasn’t your fight anymore and you were done. People were rushing around, reinforcements from someone else, and at this point, you really didn’t care, you knew you would have to call your parents and check on them, you knew they had gotten out but still.
You reached down to collect a bottle of champagne that was still intact and an abandoned gun. You knew you still had one thing to deal with and you could finally head home and relax, but this would just have to be a priority. You turned back to the scene; your husband was still directing people trying to clear out as much as he could.
You watched your husband as he pointed at things around, he turned towards you, taking in your running mascara blood-covered dress, and messy hair, and all he felt was deep love at how strong you were in all this. He walked towards you trying to get as close as he could stopping short as he saw the gun in your hand, you raised it aiming at him but that didn’t scare him, the only thoughts that came into his mind were how beautiful you looked and how lucky he was to have you.
“Me chingastes Steve, por ultima ves me chingastes hijo de puta.”
Steve didn’t move and felt the bullet graze his arm, but he didn’t care as the rage melted off you, and concern was all he saw. You rushed forward discarding the gun and bottle, you grabbed at his arm trying to see the damage you caused but instead met a firm chest as Steve held you close.
“Chingate Steve, dejame ver, let me see your arm you fucking asshole.” You pushed away from him as you removed his suit to look at his arm, he began to caress your face you ignored him as you ripped away at his shirt.
“This doesn’t change anything you know, I’m fucking pissed at you asshole,” You looked up at Steve who only showed love in his eyes, “You’re lucky I don’t file for an annulment.”
Steve felt the breath being squeezed out of him, just the idea of you not being with him scared him.
“Baby, I promise you with all that I have and to my last breath that I was never with her, I’ve only ever loved you and I promise you that everything she said was a lie.” Steve was outright begging at this point trying to make you believe him, and you knew Steve you’ve always known Steve.
“Of course, I know, don’t be a pendejo about this I know you, Steve, I did doubt you, but I know that disrespecting me and us like that is not in you.”
You looked away seeing Bucky pick up the gun you had used on Steve as he pocketed away, he caught your eye and nodded at you and Steve as if to ask if you were okay. You knew he wasn’t asking about your injuries, so you nodded at him, he inclined his head and turned to Sam slapping him in the back which made the other man yelp and punches him back.
“Steve yo te amo, and I know you, I’ve always known what type of man you are,” You pushed up, your foot complained against it, but you brushed your lips against his which made him melt at your touch, “I love you.”
Steve let the tension out, kissing you passionately as if he were trying to engrave your memory into his brain.
“I love you too.”

Here I am with the continuation of the story Breathe Underwater. Your responses have inspired me to write a mini-series called "Fire and Ice". However, we begin the story at the moment when our characters meet.
MASTERLIST of FIRE AND ICE: HERE!
IMPORTANT: I won't use Y\n but the lead character will be given a name and will be a fully formed character. Set in a time where everyone is still alive and Bucky is free of the hydra.
Warnings: violence, blood, torture, and manipulation. Vulgar language. The story will contain adult content. Probably a whole lot of Smut.
Summary: Thirteen is a HYDRA pawn, a soldier, a spy and an assassin. A wraith. Chosen because of her powers and transformed into the perfect weapon. (enchanted!reader) What happens when her mission becomes locating and eliminating The Winter Soldier?

CHAPTER ONE: Exit Music (for a film)
“What do you think happens now?”
A voice broke through the fog of images that were plaguing my mind.
We had sat in silence, my feet naked in the lake's cold water, as the house slowly emptied behind our backs. I had walked away absent-mindedly, unseen by the procession of family members within the old family home, dropping onto the dirt as soon as I reached it, my black funeral clothes still on, staring at the sun slowly sinking into the water.
My brother crouched beside me—hands on his knees, head bowed down. The familiar colour of his blond hair stung painfully in my chest—the same shade as our mother's. It was a weird feeling seeing him like that; Michael was always composed, elegant, and kept himself as a royal would.  As I watched him, I couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind. Seeing him vulnerable, without the usual stubbornness that bore his eyebrows and his chin always high and spoiled look in his eyes, it was like seeing him without a mask, seeing him through different eyes, and made me feel closer to him. As we sat there together, I felt a sense of unity between us that I hadn't felt in years, and for the first time, it felt like our relationship could only get better.
My brother was a copy of her. Our father used to joke about it before he died, saying that Michael had been too busy growing up clinging to our mother’s skirt, which had shielded me from her, preventing me from taking after her even a little bit. I resembled my father with my brown hair and eyes and the slight nose hump beneath the freckles. As a child, it was hard to witness— confining me to watching their love from the corners of the rooms and behind impenetrable doorways. It was as if a trench had been built between us, and thus I had grown up with my father and with his interests in horses and golf, yet part of me did wonder whether he did it out of pity or out of guilt, the fault of having a spouse who preferred the male heir. Then, as the years passed, I discovered I could occupy a different space in the lives of our family. And that was it.
“When we die,” Michael followed, his eyes never leaving his hands, “where do you think we go?”
I shrugged. I had no energy left in me to speak or even think. But I also didn't want to drop into the catatonic state I was in last time. “Our father would say that when a person dies, they go to a beautiful place.”
“Do you believe it?”
I nodded, taking his rough hands in mine. "He’d tell us to stick together."
“My beautiful place is here. With you.” Michael stared into my eyes, and I had never seen a more resolute look on his face. I felt my heart swell with love and gratitude. His words echoed in my mind, and I couldn't help but smile. I knew that no matter what happened, we would always have each other's backs. And in that moment, I knew that there was nowhere else I'd rather be than right there with him. "We will be together forever, sister. Trust me.” He kissed my hand, and we went back to watching the sunset. A soft smile curled my lips. We were going to be fine.
***
“Thirteen!”
A blow to my stomach made me jump, desperately gasping for air. My eyes shot open just in time to see the tip of the boot flashing straight towards my nose. I raised my arms, barely blocking the blow to my face. The force of the impact knocked me backward, slamming my back against the bars of the prison cell. Gasping for air, I struggled to calm my pounding heart and better acknowledge my surroundings. The stale, musty smell of the cell filled my nostrils. I tried to stand up, but my legs felt weak and unsteady. I stumbled to my knees, supporting myself with my hands against the filthy floor.
And there it was—the sad, cruel, bitchy reality.
The man laughed viciously, clapping a hand on his chest—right over the symbol engraved in his dark uniform. Hydra. The cureless poison, the undetectable illness you couldn't feel, until it killed you.
“Your time has come.”
The sweet haze of the dream vanished in a blink, drained by the cruel truth of life. The man in uniform fisted a hand around my hair, hauling me to my feet.
“You’re such a delicious thing, I almost feel sorry for you,” he said, closing the distance between us. The liquor on his breath made my empty stomach clench in disgust. He passed his tongue on his lips like an animal trying to seize its prey-his eyes dark and cruel. I struggled against his grip, but he was too strong. I felt sick with fear and revulsion. “Almost.”
He yanked my hair, dragging me behind him like a broken doll. Like every week, the time had arrived. I tried to steel myself for the inevitable, but my body trembled with dread. I felt a scream building in my throat, but it died before it could escape. This was my life now—a never-ending cycle of pain and misery at the hands of monsters who took pleasure in my suffering.
I gazed at the cell beside mine. Inside, the woman huddled on herself, her eyes wide with terror. I knew what was coming. The man would take her next when they had finished with me, just as it had happened so many times before.
She was grasping the bars, tears streaming down her dirty cheeks. The terror in her eyes mirrored my own. Her lips trembled, trying a few times before the words broke free from her mouth. “I’m sorry,” she hissed, her voice broken and rough.
Before I could even think about whispering back that everything would be fine, we were in the corridor, walking fast towards the stairs. The darkness was the sole thing I had known down in the cells of Hydra, except for the only occasion when they sent me out there for a mission; but, even if I was outside, breathing fresh air, watching the blue sky, or feeling the comforting warmth of the sun on my skin, I yearned for the darkness of the cells once more, where I knew it was me suffering and not the people I was sent after. It was a familiar feeling, one that I had grown accustomed to over the years. The cries and pleas of the people I was sent after were too much to bear. In the cells, it was just me and my nightmares.
One after the other, the cells held men, women, and children. All of them were scared and huddled together for warmth and comfort, clinging to each other to survive. Victims of a fucked-up system.
As I passed by each cell, I couldn't help but wonder how many more innocent lives would be lost before someone would come and save us. Even when the cruel voice in my head screamed that nobody would come for us, the world had forgotten us. I remembered the day a mother was taken away from her daughter, dragged to one of these rooms, and never came out. Her screams echoed through the halls as she was dragged away. The girl clung to me, begging me to save her mommy. It broke my heart to know there was nothing I could do but offer comfort and promises of a better tomorrow. They were lies; they came for her some days later, and I'd never seen her again.
Some soldiers had tried to escape and revolt against the captors, but it was all pointless. They were made an example of; I still heard their screams, their prayers, and their cries in the silence of the night.
I was hauled into a room. The lights were so bright that I shielded my watering eyes, but the unforgiving strength in my hair didn't pay any attention to my pain, especially not when he was going to inflict much, much, more.
“Place it on the chair and power up the machine.”
I cried out, trying to plant my feet firmly against the ground, trying to claw the hand that was dragging me to the chair. He simply laughed, handling me like a temperamental child.  I could feel the fear rising in my chest, making my heart hammer in my ears. I knew what was coming next—the machine, the cold metal in my neck, and the head splitting ache. The thought of it made me shudder. But there was no escape.
“Come on, don’t be difficult.” The man threw me onto the chair. Still laughing as he fastened my wrists to the chair's armrests and wrapped the belt around my head. Another pair of hands tied my legs to the chair. The man pressed his fingertips on my face, stretching the corners of my lips. “Give me a smile.”
I was trapped, bound to the chair, and not even allowed to close my eyes in defeat. I couldn’t fight; I couldn’t speak, but they laughed as I cried and screamed, praying in my mind that someone would come and rescue me.
The science team tortured me with the promise to murder my brother if I fought back. Treating my sorrow as their own private, amusing show. The experiments were never ending. I didn’t know what they were looking for or what they were trying to shape my mind into. The only things I knew since they had captured me were hunger, pain, and regret, as they had dressed me in their uniform and forced me to commit atrocities.
“You are a special one, Thirteen.” A woman appeared before me, holding a syringe. The liquid in it was shining brightly, its warmth moving and waving around the syringe like flames. “We gave you this power, and you have tamed it. The previous twelve could not endure its existence in their organisms, not even for a single moment, but you..." She smiled as if fascinated—her eyes shone in a weird light; was it excitement? Or was it the familiar grip of a delusional mind? "You have hosted the flames for years, gracing the world with their wonder.” I watched the syringe come closer and closer, until I felt the familiar pinching of the needle. As the liquid coursed through my veins, I felt a sudden rush of energy and clarity. The world around me seemed to come alive in a way that I had never experienced before.
The world grew louder; I could now hear the buzzing noise of the computers, the soft breathing of the guards standing all around the room, the stable heartbeat of the science woman before me, and the scent of the food she had eaten. My mind raced, and I struggled to keep my thoughts in order. “Bending the world under the fist of Hydra.”
They made me steal, and lie, destroy governments, cancelling entire cities from the maps. Kill and slaughter. Whatever was that they injected in my veins, it turned me into their puppet. They pointed and I attacked, without whispering, without questions.  Relapsing my life into a routine of lessons that made me more lethal—Magic and dancing alternating with combat, weaponry, poisons, and construction of explosives. And yet, all of that was pointless when it all came down to them. I became clay in their hands, to be shaped according to their sick desires. They had beaten me until I couldn't move, broke my bones until I was nothing more than a pile of shattered flesh and bones. And then they implanted thing thing inside of me, something dark and foreign that filled me with bloodlust.
The pain was excruciating; every inch of my body felt like it was on fire. If I tried to fight them, it could mean the end for the only person left in this world who meant anything to me. So I lay there, broken and defeated, as the pain threatened to swallow me whole.
Michael’s safety had given me the strength to stare quietly as they beat, broke, and shattered my body and mind. Letting them put this thing inside of me. I had no chance of escaping—not when it could risk the life of the last remaining person I had loved.
I felt reality shift. The world spun faster. The uncomfortable sensation of my body turning inside out. The woman before me—whose name I’d never had the privilege to acknowledge—she split into two before becoming one again, swaying to the left and then to the right in a constant waltz that made me want to claw my eyes out of my head.  She smiled and turned serious a couple of times, watching my trembling body with fascination. “You made me a monster.”
“No, thirteen.” She pinched my chin. Her eyes shone in a red light, piercing into my soul, before returning to their usual blue shade. I tried to speak, but my throat felt tight and dry. I couldn't find the words to express the fear and confusion that consumed me. The woman's grip on my chin tightened, and I winced in pain. “I made you into an asset.”
My mouth parted, quivering over the frantic breathing pattern that possessed my body. My thoughts ran feverishly in my head, confusing words and sounds rooted in my soul, speaking cruel words in dozens of different languages.
“Thirteen?”
The voice echoed in my head, clinging to the roots of my being.
"Ready to comply."
Gloved hands emerged before me, so white that they seemed to shimmer in the neon lights. I was freed from the restraint that kept me confined to the chair, allowing me to rise to my feet. I rolled my shoulders, stretching my neck—not because I felt any pain; I felt nothing at all—but in preparation for the mission.
“New mission. Locate and kill,” she said, presenting a photograph before me. “The Winter Soldier.”

Anti-Hero Prologue
PRESENT DAY
It was like any other Friday afternoon, except that the entire team was gathered at the newly appointed SHEILD Headquarters, debriefing the director, Nick Fury, about their latest mission. Normally, the whole team wouldn't be there, but Nick called in the cavalry, clearly he had something on his mind. Once Nick had been briefed on Natasha's latest mission, he looked around the room, and changed topics.
“Alright,” Nick sighs lightly then continues, “let’s get to why I really called you all here; I want to talk more about Parker.”
All eyes turn to Daniela, who visibly rolled her eyes while leaning back in her chair, “Sir, I told you last week that he’s doin’ good,” she shrugs, “he’s a noncombatant right now, ya know. I help him write papers for his classes mostly. Sometimes I help his Aunt May too."
“And how’s that, going?” Nick asks.
Daniela smirks lightly, “About as expected, he’s 18 and driving me insane, but he’s smart as hell and his Aunt is one of the nicest people I've ever met. So I guess I could imagine a worse way to spend my time.”
Nick nods and crosses his arms, “Are you regretting becoming his mentor?”
She shrugs, “Well, I was actually ordered to by Stark,” Tony rolls his eyes and she chuckles, “and was told if he was given to Barnes or Wilson, he’d be miserable. I’m supposedly nicer,” she smiles sweetly up at Nick, proud of her slight dig at the two men.
“It’s like you think I’m not here, Velikov,” Bucky rolls his eyes then turns from next to her and kicks her shin lightly, making her glare back, “I’m not that bad. Sam is though.”
“I heard that,” Sam said scowling at Bucky from across the table and then turns his eyes to Daniela, “and since when are you nice?”
“Alright,” Nick interrupts before anyone can say anything else, “I just wanted to get a base line for how he was doing," he uncrosses his arms and puts his hands behind his back, "I’ll leave it to Stark and Rogers to tell you when to start training him for active duty. Remember, I need you to give him your full attention.”
Nick Fury. Director of SHIELD. Mr. No-Fun-Ever. He was constantly reminding Daniela that the future was up to her, that she was going to someday lead the team, and if she fucked up even a little bit, everyone was doomed, but no pressure or anything. Now, she has this tiny little spider following her around everywhere, sorta like a puppy. Peter is an amazing kid, and she would fight dragons for him, but he was still somewhat of a shadow, and shadows can get annoying.
Daniela sighs lowly and nods, “Yes, sir.”
Nick looks around the table, “Alright then, that’s all I needed, you guys are free to go," he walks out of the room as everyone else stands from their chairs. Tony walks out quickly, before anyone else, after Nick, calling his name, causing the director to turn around and greet him. They pause in the hallway briefly, Tony doing most of the talking, then they both continue down the hall.
Daniela raises an eyebrow at the two men, but doesn't get much time to process it when she hears Steve call her name, “Velikov," she turns her eyes to him and he continues, "go get the kid, we’ll wait on the jet.”
She nods and heads for the door, “Can do, sir.”
Since Peter wasn’t active duty currently, he wasn’t allowed to be in briefings or meetings, so she had to find a place for him to sit tight. Daniela walks out of the conference room and makes her way to the nearest break room, where she told Peter to wait. She figured there he would be out of the way and wouldn’t cause any trouble. As she walks down the hallways of SHIELD headquarters, she says hello to passing agents, some new, some she’s known for years. Every agent she passed seemed the same, wearing all black, gun on their hip, slightly cold, but still willing to say a small passing greeting. These hallways use to feel like home to her, some days she missed them, back when she didn't have as many responsibilities and less people looking to her for guidance. Back then she worked alone, didn't really know much about the rest of the team, although she did know Fitz and Simmons pretty well. Now that she's an Avenger, she's only been on a handful of solo missions, most of the time she gets paired with Natasha or Clint. She use to hate having to work with someone else, but now, she welcomed the extra help, and was starting to like the company.
Once she makes her way to the break room, she opens the door, finding it surprisingly empty, except for one lonely face— near the floor in front of the vending machine, “Parker,” she crosses her arms, trying to hold back a laugh, as she walks up to him, "I leave you alone for what, 15 minutes, and this is what happens?”
Currently, Peter's sitting on the floor, his legs tucked up underneath him, and his side flush with the front of the machine. He was also quietly talking to himself, what he was saying, Daniela couldn't exactly hear. However, once Peter heard her voice he looked up at her, and his cheeks started to turn a slight pink.
"Oh, Daniela,” Peter twists his head a bit more to look up at her, “um, this is awkward isn't it?”
She wasn’t sure how this happened, but Peter Parker— the so called Spider-Man— appeared to have his arm stuck in the vending machine. He was trying desperately to reach a bag of Doritos that were currently lodged between the glass and the spiral shelving. This is what Daniela meant by "the shadow can get annoying," Sam or Natasha having to deal with this crap. Over the past month, Daniela's helped Peter out of countless situations, but this one took the cake as the stupidest thing he's done. Before this, the worst thing she'd seen him do was eat cheese whiz straight from a can, which she put a stop to immediately.
"Yeah, for you,” she smirks and takes out her phone, "I'm sending this to the guys, they’ll love it."
"Oh my God, please don't," he half laughs while trying to get his arm free, “just, hand me my web shooter,” he nods to his backpack that was on a nearby table, "please? I can't reach it.”
Daniela rolls her eyes, still trying to figure out what made him think putting his hand in the machine in the first place was a good idea. She was definitely gonna have to teach him more about common sense when they got home. She takes a quick photo, knowing it'd come in handy later as blackmail, and puts her phone back in her pocket, "Just get your arm outta there,” she rolls her eyes, "wheels up in 10.”
He bit his lip nervously, “Um, it might be stuck…” he trails off looking away from her shyly, “any chance you could help me, Sarg?”
"Oh my God,” she shakes her head and runs a hand through her long auburn hair, “of all the things I could be doing, Tony makes me your babysitter.”
Peter glares up at her from the floor, “You’re my mentor, Dani, not my babysitter,” he tries to pull his arm out again, but is unsuccessful, “I’m 18, ya know.”
“You don’t act it,” she tilts her head at him, “or look it really. You might be able to pull of 15.” He continues to glare at her as she walks over to take ahold of the opening on the machine, "Alright, Parker, when I break this, you take your arm out.”
His eyes widen, "You're gonna break it? I was honestly trying to avoid that."
"How else do you expect to get out?” She glares at him, "You wanna live here?" She removes her hands and stands back up, "Maybe I can talk Coulson into getting you a nice Hello Kitty blanket. Maybe even a nightlight for when it gets dark.” Of course she was going to help him, he was her responsibility, but that didn't mean she wasn't gonna give him shit for this.
Peter scowls at his arm and shakes his head, mentally cursing himself for getting into this situation to begin with. It's not like he goes out of his way to get into trouble, trouble just seems to find him. If it wasn't for Tony assigning Daniela as his mentor, he knows he'd be worse off. It just seemed like every time he needed her help, he ended up looking like an idiot. He hated looking like an idiot, especially in front of her.
Peter's expression softens into puppy dog eyes, and he looks up to her, "Please Dani, you gotta help me, Mr. Stark will be pissed if you don’t."
Daniela raises an eyebrow, "You little shit.” Peter then smirks proudly, knowing that guilt-tripping her always works. Despite her tough demeanor, Daniela really did care about Peter, she just has a weird way of showing it. She pauses for a moment, debating if she should just leave him or actually help, “Don't make a sound or I'll kill you myself.”
Peter smiles brightly, "Thank you!”
She shakes her head and takes a hold of the vending machine’s opening once more, "Close your eyes,” he raises an eyebrow at her, "I don't want a piece of plastic to get in them,” he hesitates slightly, then does as she says. She sighs to herself and then closes her own eyes, so that she could focus better. After a brief moment her hands let out a soft white glow and begin to freeze the plastic beneath her hands. Once the plastic is frozen enough, she pulls up on the opening, causing it to break around Peter's arm, enough for him to get free.
Daniela had been assigned by Tony to be Peter’s mentor about a month ago, right after he graduated high school, and Lord did he already know how to push her buttons. The goal was for her to eventually train him to be a full-time Avenger; however currently, she's just helping him with his college classes and overall just getting to know him. At first, she didn’t want anything to do with Peter, she figured he had zero potential to be part of the team, he was just so young and reckless, regardless of how much he wanted to help people. However now, after spending the past month with him, Ned, and his Aunt, she's slowly started to change her mind, and decided to stick around to really help him. They have their disagreements every once in a while, but she really did like him, he was like the little brother she never had, but had always wanted.
"Okay, get your arm out," Daniela makes a mental note to tell Tony about the machine, he was gonna have to replace it. He'd probably end up lecturing them both, which was quiet common nowadays.
Peter takes his arm out and slides back on the carpet away from her, "What about my chips?”
"Yeah, yeah," she stands back up and reaches into the opening of the machine and grabs Peters’s long lost Doritos, “here," she tosses them over her shoulder to Peter and he catches them, eyes still shut, "open your eyes, Parker.”
He opens his eyes and they immediately widen when he sees the machine, “Woah,” he stands up and opens his bag of chips, “thanks, Sarg!”
She smirks slightly, "Not a problem, but you get to explain to Stark why I had to do that. I'm not suppose to use my powers in civilian areas.”
Peter grabs a chip from the bag and tilts his head, "Why not?” he pops the chip into his mouth.
She looks to him with disbelief, "I just froze a vending machine, Parker, imagine what people would think if they saw me doing that.”
Peter continues to look puzzled as he reaches for another chip, “But, you use your powers on missions right?”
"That's in the field! I just sai—” Daniela holds the bridge of her nose in her fingers, growing more frustrated by the second; after a brief moment she looks back to him and fakes a sweet smile, "This took way too long, hopefully Cap didn't leave us.”
**********
"Wait, you did what?” Tony's eyes widen at Peter's words, then he turns to Daniela, "So you froze it? Daniela, we've talked about this. No powers in civilian areas. You gotta listen to me occasionally.”
Daniela and Peter had quickly made their way back to the jet, where everyone was not so patiently waiting. Now, Peter was explaining to Tony what had happened, just like Daniela had told him too. Although, some how, everyone else was more mad at her than at Peter, which seemed to always happen.
Daniela's eyes widen at Tony and she pushes off from the wall she was leaning on, "Technically, I didn’t?” she says questioningly, making Tony raise a challenging eyebrow, “We were at SHEILD and that’s not really a civilian area,” Tony rolls his eyes as she continues, “also, how exactly did this backfire to become my fault?" She raises her hands defensively while looking around at everyone on the Quinjet, "I literally saved Spiderlings arm.”
Sam chuckles and looks to Peter, "How did you even get your arm stuck, kid?"
"Well," Peter starts shyly, "my chips got stuck, I tried shaking it, and that didn't work, so I thought I could reach them," he sighs and shakes his head, slightly embarrassed, "they didn't seem that far up away."
Daniela scoffs and looks to the ceiling, "I can't believe I have to put up with this."
Peter looks to the floor, disappointed in himself, yet again. He's done everything he could this past month to try and prove to Daniela that he belonged here, that he really wanted to be an Avenger, to be better. Everyone else seemed to accept him, except maybe Bucky, but he hasn't spent much time with the ex-assassin. Daniela's opinion matter greatly to him, he wanted to make her proud to be his mentor, clearly he wasn't doing a good enough job.
Steve stands up from his seat by Natasha and walks over to Daniela, “You’re his mentor, Velikov, which means you're suppose to be training him, guiding him,” he then crosses his arms, “you should be the mature one, you’re a lot older. I'd like to think you know not to stick your arm in a vending machine.”
Daniela raises her brows at him judge-fully, "Really? I'm getting this shit from you? Who fought who last week over Scrabble?" She points out, gesturing between him and Tony, “'Cause it damn sure wasn't me!”
"Temper, babe," Tony raises an eyebrow.
"Oh, whatever, you two fight like a damn married couple, it’s embarrassing,” she rolls her eyes as various members of the team chuckle lightly, "I'm sick of being a babysitter. When is he,” she points to Peter who had now taken Steve’s seat by Natasha, "gonna get in trouble for stuff? I feel like I'm the noob around here. Not him.”
Daniella knows ranting like this in front of everyone wasn’t the best idea, but she's never been one to keep quiet while she's angry. She's constantly coming to Peter's rescue whenever he messes up, but then ends up being the one who gets in trouble. Of course, she knows he's young and is bound to make mistakes, but she's never understood why he always gets off scot free.
“Hey," Peter stands up a little offended by her statement, "I got in trouble two days ago because I took one of Dr. Banner's lasers,” he crosses his arms and continues, “I thought Ned would like it. I also might have accidentally cut my desk in half with it.”
She raises an eyebrow when he's finished, "You actually did that?” He nods and she smiles proudly, “I’m impressed," she looks past the boy and mutters to herself, "and that also explains why May asked me if I knew what happened to your desk."
"You knew about that?" Tony snaps.
“No," she glares back at Tony, "he was just looking at the thing when I was giving him a tour and he said something about it being cool. When he tried to touch it, I slapped his hand away. I'm not that stupid, Tony," she then narrows her eyes at Peter, "clearly I need to watch him better.”
Before Tony could retort, Natasha stands up, “Ok,” she holds out her hands— trying to calm everyone down— "I think the problem here is Dani needs to be on her own for a bit, like a mini vacation,” she looks to Tony, "give the kid to someone else for a few weeks,” she smiles devilishly and winks at Daniela, “like Barnes.”
Daniela smiles widely and chuckles silently to herself, "Yeah, Barnes is perfect,” she smiles over at the soldier, who’s eyes grow wide as he tilts his head confused as to why the women were volunteering him, "aw, come on! You need a new friend!”
Bucky raises an eyebrow, "I don't know about that.”
Daniela laughs, "Might be fun to have a new sparring partner, I’m sure you’re sick of Sam.”
He chuckles a bit and then crosses his arms while looking Peter up and down, "He wouldn't be much of a challenge for me, he’s so small.”
Peter's eyes widen in fear, "Ok ok, I'm sorry,” he quickly hops over to Daniela grabbing her arm, "I'll be good,” Daniela winks at Bucky and he smirks, “I won't prank you anymore or steal lasers or make you freeze anything! I promise! I'll even do my homework!”
Daniela raises her brows in mild shock, "If I knew all I had to do was threaten you with Barnes, I would've done it when you first got here," she then crosses her arms and continues before anyone else can interject, "so you'll listen to what I say?" Peter nods, "'Cause Cap says I'm suppose to make you an Avenger. It's not all fun and games,” she pauses and tilts her head a bit thinking, "actually it's mostly not fun and there's usually never any games.”
"We played Monopoly the other night!" Sam says laughing.
Daniela scoffs, "And it ended with you and Barnes fighting over properties.”
Sam glares over at her, "He fucking cheated and you know it!”
"How Sam,” she raises an eyebrow, “he hide the cards in his metal plates?”
Bucky laughs, which earns him a glare from Sam, “The thought occurred to me.”
Just then FRIDAY’s voice rang over the speaker, "Mr. Stark, we'll be landing in 10 minutes.”
"Alright," Tony sighs, "take a seat everyone.”
**********
Once the jet lands, Tony pulls Daniela aside, while everyone else makes their way into the compound. Nothing is said until they arrive at Daniela’s favorite spot on the compound, underneath a large oak tree.
When Daniela first arrived at the compound, she constantly found herself being dragged outside with the others, in order to get to know the team better, but after some time she’d soon find herself laying on the grass underneath the large branches of the tree. A couple of months later, others started to take notice and when they couldn’t find her inside, they knew where she’d gone. During that same time, Tony decided to try and make the spot more comfortable, so that not only would he not worry about her, but she’d also feel like the spot was her own. It wasn’t much, but he built her a free standing hammock that he placed near the base of the tree and a small table where she could put her coffee. For Daniela, this small gesture meant the world to her, since she never had anyone do something so sincere for her.
Daniela lays down on the hammock and closes her eyes, while Tony looks towards the compound and talks, “Why are you so mean to him?”
It's not that Tony actually thought she was being mean, Daniela's always been a bit rough around the edges, it came with the the fact that she had such a tough life. He just thought she could at least be a little more friendly. Although, asking Daniela to be more warm and fuzzy, might be a challenge considering everything she'd been through.
"Tony," Daniela starts, "I'm not mean to him, I actually care a lot about the kid."
Tony raises a brow not amused, "You got a funny way of showing it."
Daniela scoffs lightly, "You know that if I didn’t like Parker, I wouldn’t help him period or would've frozen his feet to the ceiling and left him there,” she crosses her arms on her stomach opening her eyes, and looks to Tony, “why me by the way?”
Tony smiles and turns to her, "Because despite your actual age, you're one of the only ones who can relate to him. I mean, you two are always making weird pop culture references and it drives me nuts," Daniela laughs and Tony continues, "you guys get along great when you're not being, ya know, a smart-ass,” he pauses and glances to the compound briefly, “Pete lights us when he talks about you or whenever you’re around, which is good. Maybe be a little nicer though? He's not one for tough love,” Daniela scoffs and he looks back to her, “the rest of us are use to your, personality,” Tony rolls his eyes, “he’s not, so give him a break. He doesn’t realize that you don’t actually mean anything by it.”
Tony pats her shoulder and Daniela nods before standing up from the hammock, “I still think Barton or Barnes would've been a better choice than me.”
Tony sighs heavily, “Look, you don’t give yourself enough credit. Before you settled down and joined the Marines, you'd been through several wars trying to decimate Hydra. You may have had your own personal agenda behind it, but you still held your own, during a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed, let alone in the military. You're a seasoned solider, so you know what it takes to survive. Not to mention you've got the brains to hold a conversation with Banner and myself," Daniela rolls her eyes and Tony smiles, "There is no one I trust more to train him, than you,” Daniela looks down at the ground shyly, his compliments making her nervous.
Tony meant every word of it too. There wasn't a single person on this planet he trusted more to train Peter than Daniela, possibly himself, but that would be a far stretch. He knew that she would make sure Peter knew what he was doing out there, she was good at what she did. The things she was able to accomplish in her life were astounding and she deserved all the praise he was giving her and then some.
Tony pats her shoulder, “And like I’ve said before, if I gave him to Barnes or Barton, they would just torture the kid. I know you won’t, mostly.”
“True," she laughs, "they were pretty hard on him when he first got here.”
Tony shakes his head, "Anyway, don't give him any slack just cause he's young ok, he's an adult now. He knows how to handle himself for the most part, but he could use some fine tuning here and there.”
Daniela smiles, "You told Barnes the same thing when he started training me.”
When Daniela first got to the Avenger compound, almost three years ago, she trained with Natasha mostly at first, so they could get an idea for how well she could handle herself. After a couple of weeks, Tony and Steve decided that having Bucky be Daniela's mentor would be good for both of them. Bucky needed something to do when he wasn’t on a mission and Daniela needed more refined training. It was definitely an adjustment for both of them, Bucky hadn't trained anyone in quiet some time and Daniela wasn't use to someone telling her so bluntly that she was doing things wrong. It took a good three months for them to finally decide that they could tolerate one another. Now, they're closer to each other than anyone else on the team, after all they did have some things in common.
Tony nodded sharply, "And did he give you any slack?”
"Well, no,” Daniela shrugs, "but I was over 90 years old and've been to war.”
"And look at you now," he smiles brightly, "three years later and still a smart-ass.”
She chuckles, "Well, he didn't kick the personality outta me, Tony.”
"Then he didn't train you hard enough,” he pauses for a moment, while she laughs, and then he smirks playfully, “maybe you should remind Barnes you can still kick his ass, for old times sake.”
"She never kicked my ass, Stark!”
Daniela’s eyebrows went up in shock at the new voice and she looks back to the door of the compound, but found no one there. Tony only smirks and looks in the direction the voice came from, "Then explain the scar on your leg!”
Bucky finally steps out from behind the door, so that they could see him, “I fell down the stairs,” he retorts, "you can't prove shit!”
"Is that a challenge, tin man?" Daniela giggles as Tony raises a challenging eyebrow, "'Cause I'll find footage and show everyone!”
Bucky stares at the pair for a few moments, then glares at Tony, “Fuck you, Stark,” he then turns around and goes back inside.
Tony smiles smugly, "That's what I thought.”
Daniela looks to Tony and smirks, "You knew he was listenin' didn't you?”
"I had a feeling.” He claps his hands together, “Anyway, I talked to Fury before we left and we came to the decision that Parker is ready for official Avenger training. So, I want you to start tomorrow, just some simple stuff at first alright? None of that shit Barnes and Barton did with you, like take him for a jog or somethin',” she nods and Tony continues, “also, I want you to make sure he's set in his room! Show him how to login to his laptop so he can do his homework, I can't have him falling behind.”
He gives a quick smile before walking to the compound, when Daniela fully realizes what he just said, “Wait, he’s gonna stay here now,” she turns and jogs up next to him, “I thought he was gonna stay with May 'til he was done with this semester.”
“He’s an Avenger now, babe,” he raises an eyebrow at her as they continue to walk toward the compound, “he needs to be here for when we need him. I talked to May about it already and she said she didn’t mind, as long as you promised to watch him and make sure he still passes his classes,” Daniela smiles lightly and Tony looks at her sideways, “you’ve had quiet the influence on her.”
“Well,” she shrugs, “I make sure Peter gets his stuff done on time and I help her out too.”
He nodded, “I know, that’s nice. You’re a good person.”
She shakes her head slightly, “I wouldn't go that far.”
**********
The two walk back into the compound to find everyone still taking off their gear. Steve nods to Daniela the moment he sees her, “Velikov,” she raises an eyebrow when she hears her name, “conference room in 15.”
"What for?” she asks while unzipping her suit and pulling her arms out, letting the top half hang around her waist, exposing her white undershirt, “Can't possibly be another mission this soon.”
"It's not," Steve says as he tucks his shield away, "we gotta give Parker a breakdown of some things, so bring him with ya.”
“Alright," she pats Peter on the back and he looks up from his phone at her, "I gotta show junior here to his room anyway,” she pinches his cheek and he pushes her away, causing her to laugh. She then walks around him to the other side of the wall and opens her locker.
"Where's his room?" Sam asks, while unbuckling his vest.
Daniela furrows her brows while trying to pull off a boot, “Um, I don't actually know?”
Tony audibly sighs while tapping on his phone, "He's across the hall from you, Dani.”
After pulling both boots off, she begins to step out of her suit, leaving her in just her spandex shorts and tank top, “Why me?" she continues while reaching for her jeans, ”I suggest putting him by Wilson."
"No thanks,” Sam chuckles, "he's your sidekick.”
"I'm not a sidekick,” Peter protests quietly.

The next day
I barely slept last night, what little I did sleep was out of pure exhaustion and no more than about half an hour at a time.  By the time 5am came around Bucky still hadn’t come back to our room and he hadn’t answered any of my calls or messages.
I wanted to talk to Steve or Nat, but they had gone away for the weekend so I couldn’t talk to either of them.  I figured I’d call my Mum and maybe talk to her but it was still super early, so I thought, why not drive to their place and talk to her in person.
I packed a bag to stay the night and around 2 hours later I arrived at my parents house.  The place where I grew up, I took my first step, had my first date, my first alcoholic drink.  The place where I lost my virginity and most importantly, the place I first told Bucky I loved him, about 6 months into our relationship.
As I walked up the front path, the door swung open and Mum was standing there.  I ran to her and she opened her arms and just squeezed me and I broke down crying.
“Meg, baby, what’s wrong?”
“Just ev..everything Ma.”
“Oh love, do you want a cup of tea and we can talk?”
“Ye..Ye.. Yes p..please”
We went inside, Mum made a cup of tea and grabbed a box of tissues and we went and sat in my old bedroom so we could talk without any interruptions.  Dad wasn’t home so it was just us.
She let me drink about half the tea and calm down a bit before she continued.
“Now Meggy, tell me what’s wrong.”
“Oh Mum, I thought he’d be ha..happy but he st..stormed out and he didn’t com..come ho..home.”
“Ok, well how about you tell me what you thought he’d be happy about and what happened before he stormed out.”
“I.. I.. Oh god, why is it so hard to say..”
“You’re having a baby?”
“You knew? Then why did you ask?”
“I’m your Mum, I know you, and I couldn’t think of much else that it would be.  You needed to say it, but I get why it’s hard, the last reaction you had was so far from what you wanted or thought it would be.  Oh my gosh, I’m going to be a Nanna?  Just wait until your Dad gets home, he’s going to be over the moon.”
I laughed because I knew she was so right.  I know his reaction will be what I’d hoped Bucky’s would be.
I explained everything to Mum while we waited for Dad to get home.  I told her that we hadn’t discussed kids and that we were good with using protection, that the flu I had a couple of months ago must have reduced the efficacy of the pill I was taking and we didn’t think to use any backup.  I told her that I was nervous and scared but also excited because I thought Bucky was my endgame and I was his.
I showed her pictures of the box I put together to let Bucky know about the baby.  Then I told her about what happened after I gave him the box.
“Mum, he didn’t explain anything, he just left and he didn’t come back.  I suppose we should have spoken about kids before now but he just said he needed some air and he left.  I know it’s sudden but I was excited about it - I still am I guess, but it’s definitely taken some of the shine off it.”
“Well, that does sound odd.  I would have thought after all he’s been through that he’d be jumping for joy at starting a family.”
“Me too, see I’m not being unrealistic to expect that reaction am I?  I mean, if he really didn’t want kids, you think he’d tell me at the start?”
At that moment, the front door opened and I heard my Dad’s excited voice. “Meggy, I didn’t know you were coming?  Where are you?”
“In the kitchen with Mum.” I laughed for the first time in the last 15 or so hours.
Dad came through the door and almost picked me up he was so excited to see me.  “Oh darling, I’m so excited you’re here.  I have a little league match that I’m coaching this afternoon.  Where’s Bucky,?  As soon as I saw your car, I thought maybe he’d like to come with me, give you and your Mum time to talk, or you can come too if you want.”
At that, he noticed my face fall.  “Meggy my darling, what’s wrong?”  He picked me up off the chair and hugged me to his chest.
“Oh Dad, everything.  I think you should sit down, I have some stuff to tell you.” Dad sat at the table next to me and reached over to grab Mum’s hand “To answer your first question, I don’t know where Bucky is.  He’s not here, that much I do know.  I think we might be over, he left last night and didn’t come home.”
“Now the reason he left, because last night I told him I’m pregnant.” I smiled at Dad to let him know I was ok with being pregnant, even despite Bucky’s reaction I’d just let him know about.
“My baby’s having a baby? I’m gonna be a Granddad? Oh I can’t wait to tell the guys at the club - none of them have grandkids yet.”
“See, that’s the excitement I was after, why is that so hard.”
“Honey, he must have a reason for his reaction, he’s not a cruel man.  You just have to sit down and talk to him”
“I know Mum, but it’s kinda hard to talk to him when I don’t know where he is.”
Tumblr media
With the perfect timing of a movie or tv show, my phone started ringing at that moment.  I nervously picked it up and told Mum & Dad that it was Steve.
“Hi Steve, what’s up?”
“Hey Megs, do you know where Bucky is?”
“I don’t Steve, I haven’t seen him since last night.  I was going to ask you if you knew where he was.”
“Last night?  Did he go on a mission or something?”
“Ummm, no, we had a.. well I guess you’d call it a fight, and he left.  He didn’t come home all night.  I left early this morning and I'm at my parents place right now.”
“Oh, say hi to them.  What happened if you don’t mind me asking.”
“I don’t but I’m not sure I want to talk about it over the phone.  I was going to stay here tonight, because I really can’t lay in our bed and wait and have him not come home again.”
“Was it that huge a disagreement Megs?”
I sighed thinking I may as well tell him. “Steve, I may as well tell you but you have to promise not to tell anyone else ok?”
“If you ask me not to say anything I won’t, you know that.”
“I know, I just have to be sure, because, well, I’m pregnant Steve.  I thought Bucky would be excited but he got really strange and asked me why I’d tell him this and think he’d be happy about it.  Then he said he needed air and he just left.”
“Oh, ok, wow.  Ummm, yeah.”
“Steve??? You’re having a similar reaction to him, is there something I don’t know about?”
“I guess you could say that.  Even though I don’t know where he is, I know he’ll be spiralling down a rabbit hole right now.  But you really need to ask him about it.  ”
“Well, that would be easier if he would answer my calls or messages.. I guess I’ll just have to keep trying.  If you see him, please ask him to talk to me.”
“I will.  And Megs, don’t give up on him and allow him to explain his thought processes..”
“Ok Steve, thanks.”
I decided then and there to try him again, I hadn’t tried calling him since before I left the tower.  I called and again it rang several times then went to voicemail, so I knew his phone was on.
“Hey Buck, I’m not sure what’s going on but I guarantee whatever you think is happening probably isn’t.  I just need you to talk to me so I can put your mind at east.  Please, please call me.  Or come to me, I’m at Mum & Dad’s place. Please Buck, I love you.”
Not 30 seconds later, my phone started ringing, his face and name showing up as the caller.

Just some comfort for poor Bucky after a mission.
————
No warnings I don’t think. Sorry English is not my first language so apologies if it makes no sense. I also hate writing y/n so I write a she/ her or my original female character Kali. Hope you like.
———-
He got into the apartment and she stood up, he saw her worried expression, ‘I’m ok’ he said and walked in a few paces, dropped his gear. She saw he winced ever so slightly.
She ran to fill his arms and he turned his head gently to nuzzle her hair. She smelled like home to him.
She wrapped her arms around him and he flinched slightly.
‘You’re hurt’ she tipped her head up to meet his eyes and he leant down to press his lips to hers.
‘It’s fine, I’ve had worse’ she knew that, but it hurt her to see how reckless he was with himself. Looking up at him she thanked the gods he was here, safe, home.
She reached up to stroke his cheek and he caught her hand, held her fingers to his lips and kissed them. ‘I missed you’ his voice soft.
His eyes were tired.
‘I’m gonna have a shower’ he said and smoothed her hair back from her face. He leant down and kissed her once, twice, three times.
‘It’s so good to see you, dove’
He was quiet, quieter than usual.
He let her hand go and went to the bathroom.
She heard the water and after a minute or two went in after him, making a bit of noise so he’d know she was coming,
‘What are you doing?’ He chided gently, but he wasn’t angry. In fact her presence calmed him. It always did.
She stripped naked and opened the shower and walked in. He had stitches in his side. Bruises, cuts.
‘Oh James ’ she cooed. ‘Sit’ she stroked his hair back and he sat down on the shower bench seat and closed his eyes. She shampooed and rinsed his hair. He relaxed into the feeling of her fingers massaging his scalp. So soothing. He opened his eyes to see her profile as she turned into him, her eyes on his body, She washed his skin and he just sat back and relaxed, he reached out to touch her soft hips, run his hands down her, she smiled at his touch and kissed his cheek.
He felt safe, loved with her, she trusted him. She wrapped her arms around him and sat with him in her arms. She didn’t see the tears run out of his eyes, but she felt his arms around her, and his lips in the crook of her neck. She smoothed his rough edges out, washed away the fight, they sat for a few minutes wrapped up, under the water. She kissed his face, he’d never known such tenderness.
She turned the water off and when she met his eyes they were red.
‘You ok?’
He just nodded silently, Her heart ached. She wished she could take his pain. All she could do was touch him, kiss him. Show him he was loved.
He watched her every move as she went and got a towel and wrapped it around him, the water beading on her skin. He sighed trying to rid himself of his melancholy and he followed her out of the shower.
They dried themselves off.
She threw a slip over her body and he tugged on some sweetpants.
‘There’s some of those brews from Thor in here..’
She smiled at him as she went to the fridge and poured herself a wine.
He nodded. He looked happy but always a little sad around the eyes. He often had that mix of looks on his face. She knew she needed to be extra gentle with him when he was like this. He made it easy through, he was just quiet.
He flopped on the couch and she placed his drink in front of him.
‘Sorry if I’m a bit…’
‘Never’ she interrupted.
‘Thanks for taking care of me’
she leaned over and kissed him softly. And then kissed his forehead.
‘I love you’ she said as she smoothed his long hair back.
‘I love you too.’ He said and caught her hand and kissed her fingertips. She loved that, he kissed her wrist.
‘Let’s get drunk and watch some crappy tv eh?’ she smiled and she got a little smile out of him. He lay down in her lap.
His face after a few drinks was a little flushed and his hair ruffled. It made her want to cling fast to him, to hold him, for there was a warm, drowsy sadness in his beauty that made her want to kiss him, clutch him, to have him close to her, under her wing.
‘Bucky’ she whispered.
He stiffened as she hardly ever called him that.
‘Are you feeling better?’
He sighed and burrowed into her thighs.
‘I went to a place I remembered as him, i got distracted and let my guard down. I hate remembering things he’s done. I … I just hate it’
He closed his eyes as he felt her fingers in his hair. Massaging his scalp
‘I’m sorry, my love.’
He sighed into her touch.
‘What do you need me to do?’
She said simply. ‘Just be you.’ He said.
‘I just want to feel you’ he said huskily. ‘ I want to feel’
Her body flushed.
He turned his head gently to hers and his eyes were half closed, his lips parted. God, he was so beautiful.
‘I’m here, you’re home now, come..’

Her name is Sarah : Part 9 (Bucky Barnes)
Pairings : Bucky Barnes x original female character
Warnings : Past rape, protagonist was sexual abuse victim, past abuse, scars, blood .
Summary : Who could say that a normal night walk would change Bucky Barnes life forever, when he finds a distressed woman with blood stained clothes seated next to a New York’s street dust bin , holding her naked newborn baby in her arms staring at the blue eyed man with her vulnareble hazel eyes.
Part 9 (Part 8)
"No… night is not here yet... It's too soon for that... normally, we have three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between... when someone's hungry, you can have some snacks... but... why?... didn't you eat three times?" Bucky explained patiently and asked a question that later he believed to be a rather useless one.
"No… no... I got one meal a day and that too, if I …" the woman replied to Bucky, but gulped the condition she was about to share down her throat in horror and shame mixed with disgust.
"I'm not hungry, thank you" The woman suddenly changed her tone from friendly to a cold one.
"Why ?... You need to take care of yourself. You have to eat, you are a nursing mother. If you won't eat, then how will your baby get the nutrients he needs for his proper development?" Bucky sternly declared, blocking the lady's way as she tried to move.
"But I said I'm not hungry, I don't want to eat. What will you do? Force me?" The lady challenged in great horror, tears clouding her eyes .
"No, no, not at all, I will never force you... don't take me wrong... I was just trying to reason with you…" Bucky softened his tone immediately, scared that the lady misunderstood his intentions, " look...I won't let you skip your meals. He was the one who starved you... I won't. I can't, you have a baby, you need to be continuously eating" Bucky added, staring into the lady's pain driven eyes.
"How could you eat once a day when you were pregnant? And that too if … if what?" Wanda asked heartbroken, emphasizing the last word of her question, feeling the pain of this woman who was being fed such a scarce amount of food even while carrying a child in her womb, "that's just criminal".
The woman's heart sank into the depths of her sorrow when she heard the comment, feeling helpless yet blaming herself for something she didn't do. Feeling the guilt of malnourishing her child …specially on those days when she had refused to give in to the abuser's additional demands, lowering her eyes to the ground as she felt utterly miserable.
"Even the doctors said that you and your baby are underfed . The nutritionist has written a whole page of indications on what you should eat in order to overcome it and to be fit enough to feed your child. Hungry or not... you have to eat... for your son's sake " Bucky insisted ,giving a piece of his mind to the stubborn woman, who began to melt when the blue eyed man mentioned her son.
"Come, I've made chicken and mushroom soup. I am sure you will like it" Buck insisted, softly bringing his face a couple of inches closer to the lady.
"Alright, give me 5 minutes, I'll come. But... I can't leave my son here till I eat ?"
"Don't worry, I'll bring your food here."
After the three friends had lunch, Wanda and Natasha left Bucky's place. Even though awkwardly, both strangers went through dinner in a rather separate way after he brought her the food... making way for an even more awkward night.
The brunet had already arranged his blanket and pillow on the sofa in the hall, and was currently staring at the ceiling resting his back on the furniture unable to catch a string of sleep at this time of night. Same was happening to the nameless woman, who was gently tapping her son to sleep amidst this velvety first night in the stranger’s house. Even after her son had caught slumber, she continued to tap him, however her eyes were glued to the wooden cupboard of the man. Sadly, despite being given the heavy medicines in hospital, slumber wasn't coming to her… at all. So she thought of taking a tour of this room where she will be staying.
Slowly, she brought herself to her feet and walked over to a framed sketch that caught her attention. When she was standing right in front of it, she could distinguish two women in them. It was Bucky's mother and his sister Rebecca's sketch, that he had drawn because he had no picture of them. As a result, he had sketched it and framed it so he could hang it on the wall . Upon seeing it, an involuntary smile crept into the corners of the lady's lips. But it vanished as soon as a question began bothering her again, as she had tried to dismiss it before... but she realized it was the main culprit that kept her awake at this time of the day. After hesitating for some seconds, she thought of opening the door and seeing if the sergeant was still awake.
Soundlessly, she pushed the door open, and saw that the brunet was indeed sitting on the couch with his head down low, staring at his entwined fingers. Glad to see the man awake, she approached the stranger staring at his back, which was facing her.
“Why?” The woman asked, surprising Bucky and forcing him to roll his head to see who was standing right behind the sofa while he was seated there.
Immediately, he stood up and walked over to the lady, standing in front of her, wearing a puzzled expression on his face.
“What why?” Bucky then wanted to know.
“Why are you letting me stay here? Why did you bring me to your home? What do you want from me in return for this favor?”
“ I want nothing from you…absolutely nothing” He replied, calmly to the doubtful woman.
“ You paid my medical bills, provided me with a shelter, you gave me the only room in your house, choosing to sleep on the sofa. And you think I won't doubt your intentions?”
“ I won't prevent you from doubting me, I understand what you are going through... but I will let the time speak for itself . Then only you will see for yourself that I have no bad intentions”
“But... how...?” the lady insisted, her brow furrowing in deep distress for wanting to know the truth.
“Let 's say... I... I am redeeming whatever I've done in my past” Bucky confessed, not knowing what words to use to state the reasons, as somewhere deep in his heart even he did not know exactly why he had brought her here…the only thing he was sure of was that he couldn't bear this woman being sent to a NGO, that too with a newborn child…away from him. After speaking these words, the blue eyed man chose to walk back towards his couch and took a seat there, rubbing his face with his flesh hand.
“Redeeming...? What have you done?” The woman asked, slightly scared but in fact… unsure of whether she wanted to know the answer or not...whether she wanted to stay or not?

Everybody wants to be loved, every once in a while. We all need someone to hold on to, just like a helpless child. Can you whisper in my ear, let me know it's alright.
Steve & Natasha stayed at the controls in the front of the jet as they made their way back to the compound, giving Bucky & Carina some space in the back. There was quiet murmuring as he examined her wounds and they comforted each other.
Arriving at the base they were greeted by the rest of the team who gave relieved smiles and hugs before letting Bucky usher her to Dr. Cho despite her protests. “Please, for my peace of mind. Let her scan you and then we will go back to our place.” The haunted look in his eyes convinced her, so she sat through the physical, holding Bucky’s hand the whole time.
“Let’s get you cleaned up and then I'll bandage your wrists.” Bucky carried her into their bathroom and started the water while Carina pulled her clothes off.
She was still in the outfit she’d been kidnapped in and she threw it in the trash the second she got it away from her skin. “That used to be my favorite sports bra.” she shook her head, turning to see Bucky still clothed. “You aren’t joining me?”
“I was going to get you some fresh clothes while you cleaned up.” He smiled gently, checking the water temperature.
It's been a long time coming down this road, and now I know what I've been waiting for. And like a lonely highway I'm trying to get home, loves been a long time coming.
She shook her head, tears springing to her eyes. “Please stay with me. I can’t feel you right now and I…” her hand was resting on her chest as the words left her in a shudder. Bucky knew the feeling, their connection had been damaged by the injections. When they had bonded a tether had appeared right next to his heart that led straight to her. He was still aware of a whisper of it but the stricken look on her face told him that she couldn’t even feel that much.
He whipped his clothes and shoes off and gathered her into his arms. Her small sobs were muffled by the water as he steered them underneath it. “Sshhh, it’s going to be ok.” he murmured, reaching for her shampoo and slowly working it through her tangled hair.
“Can we fix it?” he barely heard the whispered question against his chest.
Lifting her head back so he could rinse the shampoo, he smiled at her. “It’s still there, our bond, we just have to tend to it. Strange said it was like a fire.” he reached for her conditioner before continuing. “Add kindling, encourage it. Brock didn’t succeed in extinguishing it. As long as we still want each other there are embers.”
You can love for a lifetime, you can love for a day. You can think you've got everything, but everything is nothing when you throw it away. Then you look in my eyes. And I have it all once again.
Carina looked at him, her brown eyes wide and shining with tears. “There’s no one I want more than you.” she whispered, her arms circled his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. He smiled into the kiss, relieved to hear it.
Pulling back he turned to grab her loofah but she pulled him back down. “We need to clean your wrists.” Her ankles had had the benefit of her leggings to provide a barrier but the rope had dug into the skin on her bare wrists, leaving them raw and red.
“Bucky please.” She tried again to pull him down to her but he resisted despite the scent of her arousal reaching his nose.
“You need to rest, you’ve been through alot.” His attempt to soothe her was weak even to his own ears.
Didn't know I was lost, till you found me. Didn't know I was blind, but now I see. Can you whisper in my ear, let me know it's alright.
She shook her head, a small smile crept onto her face when she felt his arousal stir against her stomach. “I need you, I need to feel you and our connection.”
Bucky gave in with a groan, grabbing her legs and hoisting her up his body. Gently he pressed her back against the wall, using it to anchor her with his hips. “I love you so much, if I had lost you…” his voice broke and she silenced him with another kiss, whimpering as he pressed into her.
“You waited nearly two lifetimes for me, I'll be yours for the rest of mine.” She whispered, urging him to move with a shift of her hips. Bucky was gentle as he made love to her in the shower slowly, urging her to an orgasm before reclaiming her with a bite over the damaged one. The effect was immediate, both of them relaxing as their bond snapped into place again.
It's been a long time coming down this road, and now I know what I've been searching for. It's been a long, long highway, and now I see. Oh it's been a long time, loves been a long time coming.
Bucky and Carina were married three weeks later in a small ceremony at a cabin Tony owned. They hadn’t needed the piece of paper, their bond was stronger than ever but Bucky had wanted to tie himself to her in every way possible. For him, love had been a long time coming.

“So.” the tap of a clicking pen filled the air. “Have you been writing recently?”
“I'm not a writer.”
Grace – your therapist – sighs, absolutely done with your shit. She was right to be. “You've written some of the film industry's greatest movies. Just because the world doesn't know that doesn't mean it's not true.”
You more or less glared at her, not a peep leaving you. It was going to drive Grace crazy, you didn't care. Maybe you did. A frown danced on your face, the one you wore usually. Just more annoyed.
“You don't have to be in denial forever.”
You loathed it when she said that. She noticed that you began to fidget with your hands before you realized yourself. She wrote it down, the sound of the pen dancing over her pad taunted you. You've never been an angry person, but it made you want to scream at her. Be the madwoman people expected of you.
“Yes, I have been writing.”
Grace's face lightened. “Good, anything you want to share.”
Your therapist made you talk about your script and stories in the beginning, a way to open up, she said. It was usually the only thing you'd be comfortable enough to speak about. She’d look way into the stories though, so you stopped. Especially after a suicidal main character got you put on 24-hour watch.
“Just practice.” you sighed, avoiding eye contact. “That one script I wrote a year ago is being filmed right now.”
“Which one?”
Here we go.
“The one about the cannibal luring in women through dating.”
Grace hums, nodding her head. Remembering the story you spoke about to her a while ago, she had read the first draft. “Is being deceived and tricked something you can relate to? Is cannibalism a metaphor for being eaten away by your feelings when you lived in LA?”
Told you.
You want to groan, scream and cry at her. Throwing your head back in annoyance and carding a hand through your hair with a heavy sigh.
“It's not that deep, Grace.” you say, “it's just about the horrors of modern dating as a woman.”
Sometimes you wanted to cry when she made these arbitrary assumptions just to tear you down into being a deeper person than you actually wore. It made you feel like a character of your trauma. Which your writing was the whole point, to make that not true.
Because you are not a character in your story. You never were.
“But do you feel that way? the way Miles treated you–”
“can we not—“ you let out a shaky breath, “I thought we agreed on Voldemort.”
That stupid fucking name. You hated when she called him by his name, it felt borderline criminal and it left a metallic taste in your mouth. Flinching at every stranger you met with a similar name.
Grace sighed for probably the millionth time. You didn't care that she sounded disappointed. “You cannot keep ignoring your past and live in denial and delusions. You have to learn to step out of that comfort zone and face it head-on.”
Denial, denial, denial. That word sure came up a lot.
“You are a writer.” she looked you dead in the eye. “Yet you claim not to be, despite that fact you continue to write scripts and let movies be made and go uncredited even after escaping miles. Living paycheck to paycheck from that small cafe.”
You feel small.
“You haven't even touched any of the money miles–”
“Okay, I get it, I get it.”
You wished she would stop talking sometimes. And sometimes you wished you didn't have to go to these stupid therapy sessions every week just so you could leave the state. Not be locked in a hospital and dancing around like a crazy person.
“I need to stop living in denial, I need to get out of my comfort zone. I get it, but stop lashing out at me.” you repeat her words. And you know she's not lashing out, she's doing her job and you shouldn't hate her for it. But you do.
Grace looks down at her notepad again and you swear to any gods above if she starts writing down some stupid observation you were going to–
Thump.
Your eyes watch as the throws the pad to the side and lean in closer to you, studying you. Okay, this is even worse.
“Where is this movie being filmed?”
Your eyebrow quirked up. “Canada, Toronto.”
“You.” she points her perfectly painted finger toward you. “Are going to take a vacation, go to set, hang out, help out. Maybe – and I highly recommend it – give some advice. And I know your director friends would be more than welcome to that idea.”
“I can’t take off work.” you sigh, frustrated. “And I don't have the money to get a ticket and stay that long.”
“Yes, you do.” she quips back.
Sometimes you also forget she has access to see your funds and other things. Another thing you could technically blame Voldemort from. If you're speaking about the domino effect, at least.
Hesitantly, and maybe just so you could leave, “i'll think about it. Okay?”
And you did, maybe you forced yourself to think about it in the begining. But somewhere along swallowing yourself on your couch, mindlessly serving coffee and sandwiches. Staring blankly at your books and scripts. You kept thinking about it, until you couldn’t stop. Then it bothered you.
Sometimes you go onto Hulu, prime, or wherever your movies ended up. It doesn’t matter, you don't have control over them, never have. And you'd look at the credits page for hours, quite literally losing yourself in time. You wondered if you'd ever be strong enough to try and change it, by the time you snap out of it, you come to the conclusion that you aren't. And even if you were, would you win? Highly doubtful.
Swallowing down your medication as you feel the upcoming panic. You don't have time to deal with this. You glance down at the orange bottle again. No– stop that. Idiot.
Glancing back to the semi-empty calendar nailed to the wall. Your fingers dance along the dates and you sigh. Tuesday is therapy, you close the shop on those days. Since you usually come back home in a daze and are completely unable to function normally. You hated that your trauma and illnesses had that much power over you. Made you feel weak.
It was February 14th. Your fingertip fell on the 3rd and found itself on the next page. Around the third week of March. That's how long they'd be filming. You didn't ask Mimi. She invited you down, you hate when your therapist is right. She said they'd have a party. They always have parties while filming.
You tried to convince yourself of an excuse to stay. The regulars would be mad when they find out the shops are closed for over a week. You'd miss your apartment, which was a ffat-out lie. You've been trying to convince yourself you'd like this place since you moved in. no way that is changing now. You have to do therapy on zoom, then Grace said you wouldn't need to speak to her on vacation. That made you want to go.
“Fuck!” you yelled, not sure why. But you did and slammed a hand on the counter out of pure frustration and defeat. You'd never have control over your thoughts anyways.
You went into your room to pack, cursing yourself the entire time. You were only destroying yourself by going. Scared someone would recognize you. Another lie, Mimi doesn't work with anyone he worked with. Fact.
Cursed yourself when you bought a ticket, made a sign that said closed until further notice, and texted Mimi your arrival time. Your hands shook when you went through TSA and tried to put your suitcase in storage. A nice husband of three helped you and you gave him a nervous smile. You took a Xanax and mellowed out until you landed.
You began to hate yourself when you checked into the hotel Mimi said to go to. Hated yourself as you got dressed and called a cab. Started to loathe yourself and contemplate going home on the ride back and your legs shook when you walked onto set.
And then something really weird happened. You saw Sebastian and you suddenly didn't and that made you hate yourself even more but in an entirely different way. Mimi was excited you came and Lauryn was shocked. You predicted their reactions and got them correct.
You met Daisy and didn't tell her who you were, she made a good noa. You didn't tell her that either, even though you felt like you should have. Sebastian looked excited, confused, and shocked you were here. All of those and also a little happy. You hoped he didn't know.
You were glad they didn’t get Chris Pine.
/
You lurked the entire day, not wanting to intrude on the creative proess. You knew how frustrating that could be. Mimi was a great director and you were happily watching her.
Sebastian. Oh, Sebastian. You spent an alarming amount of time staring at him instead of reading the book you bought. You thought about how he made you feel when you fell asleep on him, how you felt at ease sleeping in your apartment for the first time (and how you had a panic attack about it in the bathroom before he woke up), how you smiled more than you wished when he convinced you to dance to Lana and Faye Webster. And then you thought about avoiding him the same way you did when he came in the shop that second time.
Because he was a normal man that liked old films, the color pink and space. But to almost everyone else – he was Sebastian Stan.
And that's why you have to stay at arm's length.
But then he startled you with two cups of coffee in his hands, giving you one, and tucked in his armpit was the script. He sat next to you and asked about delivery and attitude, asked for advice and your thought process when you wrote this.
You mentioned it, but Lauryn must have said something.
“He’s lighthearted about it, he is sinister but if you take meaning away he's just goofy.” you explain, and he looked at you so intently and listened to you well, you thought about kissing him, but you knew it was just because he was giving you attention. “These are some scenes you don't want to take him so seriously.”
A part of you wanted to yell at him. Tell him you're not a writer, you didn't write this, why are you asking me? Go ask Lauryn. But that's just what you were used to. You've already crossed a weird unspoken line that both of you acted like it was nothing, because it was. You told yourself.
But you let it be and continued to answer his questions.
You didn’t know Sebastian kept lingering just to make you smile, and that he stayed even after he accomplished his goal.
/
After fleeing to your hotel room, you took a cold shower and cried. You weren't sure why.
You watched Once Upon a Time, “Hat Tricks.” you smiled watching that episode. You weren’t sure why, you didn't like it.
You started to wonder what fuck was wrong with you when you turned on the Covent and went to bed with your hand in your pants.
/
ding!
please don’t be Mimi asking to come back to set. please don’t be Mimi asking to come back to set. please don’t be Mimi asking to come back to set.
from Mimi Cave: the cast and crew are having drinks at 8, it’d be great if you came by.
For the past couple of days, you made brief appearances on set, and spent most of the time lingering around Toronto like a ghost. you went to see Tom and Jerry in theaters which was so far the highlight of the week. maybe besides talking to Sebastian but you weren’t ready to admit that to yourself yet.
you needed to socialize with people besides cafe workers. Speaking with people in the film industry was scary. Maybe this was for the better. You can imagine Grace speaking in your ear.
chewing on your cheek, you blink at the message and then another one pops up.
from Lauryn: i know mimi just texted you, but you don’t have to go if you're not comfortable.
from Lauryn: try to come later though. less people then, or tomorrow morning we can get brunch.
you sighed heavily. two sides of the same coin. One danced around you while the other was overbearing. It was a good balance but now it was just annoying. It was probably because Mimi came post-miles and Lauryn was there even before him. they both cared though.
to mimi: i’ll try to stop by! send me the address. thanks for the invite.
to lauryn: it’s fine, i need to get out. i’ll be there
setting your phone down before glancing at the time. It was 7 pm now. you had no rush to get there at 8, you didn’t want to get there then. If anything, you’d do what Lauryn suggested.
you stared at yourself in the mirror for a good 10 minutes before deciding to get ready. pulling yourself together and putting on a dress of sorts. it was red - staying on theme with the movies. you paced the hotel for a little, opened Instagram. your therapist told you to stop doing that. your fingers danced across the search bar in a trance, not even realizing he was on your mind.
[imsebastianstan]
clicking the follow button. maybe this was a bad idea—
imsebastianstan requested to follow you.
that was… quick. he should definitely be wrapping up filming and not on his phone, or social media.
Nonetheless, you clicked accept.
you had no post, no highlights. just a name and profile photo. it was from a party a long time ago, some
people are cropped out. but you already got a new message.
imsebastianstan: are you coming tonight?
fuck. now you can't back out. you typed quickly, told him you were. he offered to pick you up, what a gentleman. you declined. told him you already called an uber and Sebastian said to be safe. it made your chest weirdly warm.
the ride to the house was a more mellow version of the journey to Toronto and set for the first time. same feelings just less physical panicking. which was — better.
it was 9 when you got there. too early for your taste but you were already standing in front of the huge house, tall glass windows with warm lights and groups of people. too many people. and Mimi must have already seen you because she ran outside with Daisy close behind, cheeks already warm from the crisp cold.
“what are you waiting for? it’s cold, get inside!” she waved you over and you forced out a thin-lipped smile and entered the door, shrugging your coat off and putting it aside.
and you went through the motions of the party for the most part. Mimi introduced you, Lauryn looked surprised that you came so early. you gave her a reassuring nod and she went back to speaking with whoever. wondering if she went around telling them about your part in the script like you did Sebastian. you looked for Sebastian, he was flirting with some girl — you looked away pretty quickly and found a love chair to nurse a drink and people-watch.
and then time blurred, voices muffled and rang. the clicking of glasses and laughter played in the background like a television. you wondered why you even came.
“y/n?”
everything came back and Sebastian was standing in front of you. a somewhat worried face, you chose not to think about that too much.
“hey,” you replied plainly.
“Hey back.” Sebastian smiled and you caught your eyes lingering on his lips. He sat down next to you, thighs touching. like they did when he spent the night, should you mention that?
“Are you okay?” he asks and it genuinely takes you offguard. You begin to stare at him blankly, almost confused. You don't remember the last someone asked you that, and then you realize you don't even know the answer. It shocks you for a moment.
And there's something so raw about Sebastian that makes it so hard to cover it all up. Be fake. Lie. be happy, pretend. It scares you and you want him far away, but the feeling and warmth of his thigh lining against your envelopes you and makes you feel whole and secure.
“I’m here.” which isn't a lie, but it’s all you can think to say. “which is good enough.”
Sebastian glanced back to the small crowd. He smiles, but it feels forced. You know the look too well. “that you are.” is all he says for a moment, you just nod and tap a nail on your glass. “But, do you want to be?”
No, yes, I'm not sure, I should be, do you?
“I think so.” you settle on.
“You don't sound so sure.”
“Because I'm not.” you sigh.
Sebastian takes one more glance around, checking each and every person and to his surprise and delight – no one is looking at him. He smiles, it's genuine now and you can't begin to understand what he's thinking. It angers you.
A hand grasps around your drink, sets it down and finds its way back to your wrist. “Let's go somewhere else,” Sebastian says with a tease in your voice and he's already getting up, you follow him with no hesitation.
“Where?” you ask abruptly, but Sebastian is already pulling you into the front room. Slipping his shoes on.
“Which ones yours?” Sebastian completely ignores your question. Sights set on getting the hell out and looking through the coats. “This looks like something you'd wear.”
“What? No! I would never wear that.” you sound offended, defensive. and smacking his hand away from the ugly purple coat and go to find yours.
Sebastian just laughs and it catches you off guard because he sounds so perfect. and he’s looking at you, and you're still and scared. you grab the black trench coat and let him drag you out and away from the party.
because between unspoken glances of growing trust and laughter as he fumbles with the keys to the rental car. you think to follow him anywhere. and maybe it was simply to get away from that party and the intense stares toward the random, weird girl in the corner who looks one inconvenience away from shooting herself. or maybe it simply was just — him.
you decided not to think about it too much.
“Do you like musicals?” Sebastian asks unprompted. He looks giddy and has a haze in his eyes. you wondered briefly if he should be driving.
“I like some.”
The question of where he’s taking you is still heavy in your head but the question doesn't seem to leave your lips.
Sebastian tucks lips beneath his teeth to hold back a wild, mischievous grin threatening to grow. He turns up the radio aux and the all-too-familiar sound of Andrew Garfield breaks out. you laugh loudly and Sebastian should probably be watching the road right now, but he’s not.
“I like this movie,” you say, referring to tick-tick boom. before you can begin your unasked criticism of the movie. Sebastian breaks out in an aggressive song and it startles you.
“don’t panic! don’t jump ship! I can't fight it!” Sebastian is screaming at the top of his lungs, literally. He turns to you in the passenger and points at you with his nose scrunched. He looks quite cute. “ —like taxes!”
“oh my god.” you gawk. Sebastian doesn't stop his one-man performance and all you can do it stare in amusement and chuckle quietly to yourself.
he doesn’t stop— no, no, now he’s encouraging you. but you're shaking your head violently but the growing smile says something different and Sebastian knows it. “come on! please!”
you shake your head no again
Sebastian is making an exaggerated frown face and he looks ridiculous.
“If I sing, will you tell me where we are going!”
The car slows and he’s driving on a straight road with almost no other cars in sight. Sebastian leans into your space, you don’t lean away. looked you dead in the eye and nothing matters.
“If you sing, I will make the next three to four hours the best you’ve ever had,” Sebastian says sincerely and calmly. He's too serious to be joking now. you bite back a smile and his eyes go back to the round.
your hand goes to turn up the volume and… here goes nothing.
“Friends are getting fatter! the hair on your head is getting thinner! feel like a cleanup batter, on a team that ain’t a winner.” you sing-shout and Sebastian looks more than pleased.
“don’t freak out! don’t strike out! can't fight it, like city hall!” he sings the next verse.
and then you do, and then he does. and then Sebastian put on grease, you suggest heathers and you duo seventeen. Sebastian is still driving with a grin on his face and you feel lighter.
your face hurts when the car finally stops, you want to think it’s from singing. but Sebastian knows it’s because you were smiling the entire ride.
“are you going to tell me why we’re at a grocery store?” you ask, blinking at the 24-hour large convenience store.
“I didn’t want to say anything to Mimi, but her car-cuter boards were not doing it for me.'' Sebastian gets out of the door and slams it shut, it makes you flinch slightly. you hoped he doesn't notice, especially as you linger in the passenger seat. He does, he looks back through the windshield and his giddy smile fades.
Sebastian mouths ‘are you coming?’ and you wonder if you should pretend you couldn’t read lips but it would make no difference. exhale, you open up the door and find your place next to him as you walk through the sliding doors.
the bright fluorescent lights hurt your eyes when you walk in, especially the one above the bathroom that is flickering.
“what’s the weirdest food combo you enjoy?” Sebastian asks. his eyes glance around the store eagerly. you know the look, he looks satisfied when he realizes it’s almost empty, aside from the old lady in the fruits second. the teenage worker. and some woman with 5 pregnancy tests in her hands and one pack of mints.
truly the almost midnight shopping experience.
“weirdest? that I enjoy…” you hum, “cottage cheese and Fritos.”
“that so weak!” he teases and it almost tugs out a smile, matching the one on his that reached his eyes and made the blue look brighter. you turn away trying not to stare or drown in them.
“okay, uhhh… sanyang noodle sauce and watermelon.”
Sebastian hums for a moment, thinking. “that might sound good.” he nods, “what about strawberries and mayo?”
your eyebrows furrow, “that sounds like a pregnancy craving? Are you pregnant, Sebastian?”
he laughs and reaches his eyes once again and a weird sense of pride swells in your chest. Sebastian stops in front of the produce and grabs a small thing of strawberries.
“no, but I’m going to make you try it.” he says.
you let out a breathy laugh, a poor excuse for one anyways. Sebastian's eyes linger on your face, waiting for you to smile. you don’t.
“Is this what we are doing? getting weird food combos?”
“if you want to, get whatever — I’ll pay.”
“That's good enough for me.” and say and grab the cubed watermelon in front of you.
and then you separate for a brief period. Each strolling the aisle of the small store, the bright lights still bothered you. for a moment, you could hear Sebastian humming while he stood on the other side of the shelves. you got caught up in it and ended up staring at a bag of hot onion rings.
so much you didn’t realize Sebastian was now next to you.
“you gonna get those? or just stare at them?” he asked, surprising you. you blinked rapidly as you fell back to reality.
as awkward as ever, you faked a laugh and grabbed them. “I’m getting them,” you were glad you actually like these. “just thinking.”
Sebastian hummed. He knew the look of spacing off until you dissociated well. He chose not to tease you for it.
turning towards the man, Sebastian held an entire chocolate cheesecake and cotton candy grapes. In truth, Sebastian didn’t like cotton candy grapes. mostly grabbing them for shits and giggles, but the smile that grew on your face made him even happier for grabbing them.
you quickly bit back the smile, “those are my favorites.”
Sebastian could have guessed.
“So you're saying if a dashingly handsome man offered you cotton candy grapes, you’d end up like noa?” Sebastian teased.
“maybe, not sure if i’d ever date a doctor though.”
“interesting.”
you walked side by side, your steps were the only noise between you two as you headed for the register. self checkout. you offered to pay, because you’re nice. Sebastian refused and said it was payback for the free coffee.
maybe you shouldn’t be looking at him like you are now. eye focused as he casually wore a small smile, the snacks beeped as he scanned them.
It was so stupid, he was doing something so normal and casual. you barely knew him and you were looking at him with love-sick eyes. Because to you, he looked so good, doing something so normal and maybe you should sit down and really think about your next actions. but you don’t, and you continue to stare and Sebastian notices.
“let’s go-“ he looks up to you, stopping his words when he realizes you were already looking. you feel in a trance when he stares back, with the same feeling in his blue orbs. but you barely know him.
you both snap out of it and start to walk back to the car.
The cold Canadian air hits you, sending a breeze through your hair. Sebastian sees you through the corner of his eye, it makes him smile for some reason. He feels young, like a teenager gazing at a crush in the hallway.
“I wonder what would have happened if we met 10-20 years ago.” Sebastian laughs, such a random question to you.
you hum, “I don’t know.”
Sebastian stares at you from across the car, his fingers graze over the handle and you’re cold. but the door is locked. as serious as ever, like his words wouldn’t knock you to your feet, Sebastian says; “I’d probably ask you on a date, I was really cocky back then because of gossip girl.” he laughs.
you gulp, anxiously waiting for him to unlock the door so you could get in and escape his eye contact.
“And I would decline, because I’d be married to someone else.”
Sebastian’s face falls, only for a moment before he forces out a pursed smile. It doesn't look real and maybe Sebastian isn’t that good of an actor in real life. “and you’d be married. I didn’t know you were married.”
“I know. not anymore.” you say. not like you try to hide it from literally everyone you meet now. Sebastian doesn't know though: and it’s refreshing. but now he’s going to ask about it and you prepare for that speech.
Sebastian unlocks the door.
The ride is a lot more silent now, you enjoy it while it lasts and watch the orange dew when Sebastian drives through the tunnel. you forget to ask where you were going until Sebastian stopped in front of an empty park.
“a park? at night?”
“Absolutely.” he says and he looks so sure of himself, grabbing the bags of food and you can’t help but follow him. you don’t even think about it.
it’s unspoken, and a trust that you don’t recognize in yourself. but you silently follow Sebastian's actions, almost till their own and you two move with the same mind and ideas.
and Sebastian brought a blanket because he just so happened to have one in the car. it’s cold but neither of you care. Sebastian laying on his back with his chest rising slowly, your sit crisscrossed and started going through the bag of snacks as Sebastian switched from gazing at the stars and your stone-like features. you’re so beautiful and Sebastian is so smitten.
“okay,” he sits up abruptly, “mayo and strawberries time, come on.”
He had a Cheshire grin on his face as he shook the mayo bottle. you shake your head, “mhm, no. I hate mayo.”
“I’m serious, you have to try it.” he’s smilesto himself as he squeezes the mayo onto the strawberry and you visually recoil.
“no, absolutely not.” you continue to shake your head.
but Sebastian Stan is Sebastian Stan and he flashes that smile and the moons reflect off his eyes and he’s smiling at you. at you.
“one bite and you can ask me any questions you’d like.” he offers, “anything. no boundaries.”
interesting.
“and you have to try the watermelon.”
he smiles because he knows he’s won. “I'll eat the watermelon if I can ask you one big question.”
you know what the question is, but Sebastian is gazing into your eyes like nothing's wrong. no one has hurt you and you feel warm and young. his blue iris takes you over and it cleans your soul, and he is looking at you.
with a quick roll of the eyes, you agree and Sebastian shoves the berry in your mouth. and sometimes you wish you’d listen to your head more than your heart; especially now.
“ew!” you yell, it comes out muffled because Sebastian put the entire berry in your mouth unprompted, stem and all. you fold into yourself as you search for a napkin to spit it out. “I should have never listened to you! oh my god, that was horrible.”
Sebastian breaks out into laughter as he watches your face scrunch up in disgust, he hands you a napkin and you throw the mushy mayo-strawberry to the side.
“Man, I gotta think of a horrible question.” you snark.
“Try me.” he says, testing the waters.
this feels oddly like the first night he met, maybe he shouldn’t be letting you do this. Maybe he’ll say something wrong again. knowing himself, he probably will.
you can’t look at him, you plop down and stare at the stars and hope he follows. Sebastian does.
“Do you actually like being an actor?”
Sebastian’s quick and ready junket or movie premiere answer is on the tip of his tongue and then he realizes. It's an empty park, night and stars shining down on him and he’s alone. alone with you. you're beside him and he can feel your warmth. Sebastian had to think of a new answer, it puzzles him.
he fully thought you’d ask something embarrassing of him. like it’s not already on some podcast or interview. Sometimes he regrets when he says those vulnerable and knowing things about himself. It's like giving a piece of himself to the world. in exchange: he’s not sure.
“Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.” he exhales and it’s the only thing he can think of. “recently though; I’ve been liking it a lot less.”
you hum, so he knows you’re listening and you understand and you urge him to keep going. because the weight in his words makes you feel like it’s been bottled up and he’s letting his thoughts out barely, one by one.
“You know, sometimes it just feels like I’m not me. like I'm made up of things people think of me, and it’s hard to differentiate from that.”
he sighs, his chest feels heavy. “i guess I’m just tired of people picking me apart.”
“amen.” you attempt to joke and it leaves Sebastian off guard. but it’s not bad, he chuckles under his breath and you have a small, tiny smile on your face.
It's silent for a while, but it's okay. It's comforting and domestic and it reminds you of the morning Sebastian slept over. But you also know what’s about to come and you decide to just accept it because Sebastian is already asking the question he did before.
“I’m taking my questions now,” he says. “be honest this time. the real you, what broke you?”
the real you. you would never understand, Sebastian Stan.
you decide to go slow, and asses if you’ve been deceived and are stomping on enemy territory.
“Do you know Mile Franco?” the words come out and you don’t recognize your own voice, you feel dirty and slimy.
Sebastian's confusion shows heavily on his face, even if you can’t see it - you hear it in his words.
“the director? yeah. I auditioned to be in like 3 of his movies.”
you barely realize the words leave your lips until the awkward and painful silence follows after, the words rush out so quick you maybe hope Sebastian doesn't understand you.
“he’s my ex-husband. and he’s stolen every single one of those movies from me.”
your mind flashes to the metal ring that you used to wear with pride. the days you were trapped in those multi-million dollar hollywood houses, for literally weeks. you thought you were being loved as you gave the man your scripts and story and directorial work and talent for free. in exchange for what?: a few suicide attempts, trust issues, a 10 million dollar settlement, and a stolen Oscar for director of the year as the one thing to say “fuck you” to him. even if he had endless awards that should have your name on the plate
“Oh.” is all Sebastian can say and your sure you’ve fucked up. and he’s a secret die hard fan of his and he’s fawned over miles at award shows you should've been to, but you always found out he got invited after the red carpet and it was too late. you watch him accept your awards on the television.
“I met him fresh into film school. I graduated high school early so I was only 17. I had nothing to my name at the time” you exhale a shaky breath. “we were married for 13 years, it took 2 hospital trips for me to leave him. I took him to court for the rights - lost - and got settlement money instead.”
Sebastian feels his mouth go dry when he listens to you. abruptly sitting up, making you flinch as he looks down at you. anger, confusion, disgust, nervousness: you couldn’t tell but his face flared up with emotions as he furrowed his eyebrows.
“so all of his movies… you wrote? like all of them?”
“yes.” it comes out strangled and more like a croak.
Sebastian is processing what that all means to you for, for the film industry and himself. He loved his movie and admired him. Sebastian can only think to joke about it and also make a pathetic, desperate attempt to make you feel better.
“That explains why his movies have been really bad recently.” he scoffs and you actually laugh. Sebastian wants you to feel better.
“I guess.” you sigh. sitting up next to him.
Sebastian always knows how to push everything slightly over the edge and despite how much he’s talking himself from doing that with you. mysterious, mysterious girl. He can’t help himself and he begins to tread in unfamiliar territory.
“you’re divorced, away from him. So why do you continue to write movies and go uncredited?”
you breathe in. ready to give your avoidance-type answer you’d give Grace or change the subject. but Sebastian's looking at you and he looks caring and trusting and he’s not your therapist. you wonder what is wrong with you and if you should run and hide that this will be another Miles.
“I feel like they have this idea that when someone goes through something like I did, they’re supposed to blossom and take control and gain that power back.” you sigh, the continuous trope you see in the media that tire your back: because it’s not you, and you feel like a fraud. “But that’s not me, because I got pushed into that comfortable zone of being in the shadows despite the fact it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I know nothing else.”
Sebastian doesn't say anything. He doesn't know what to say and for once — the silence makes you uncomfortable. a light-hearted scoff leaves you, “and the reasons you don’t want to be an actor are the reason I don’t want that fame.”
“makes sense.” Sebastian says. he knows deep down that despite the fire brewing in the bottom of his stomach that feels betrayed for you. He doesn't act, you wear your stubbornness on your shoulder and Sebastian knows that no amount of cotton candy grapes will make you have a sudden epiphany tonight.
but he also knows the pent-up emotions of being silenced and talked over, and giving up trying anything else.
“get up.” Sebastian speaks softly, your eyes glance at him.
“What?” The smile on Sebastian's face confused you more. slowly, you rose up and went straight next to him. short-lived when Sebastian grasps your hand and jerks you up an empty field around the park, stumbling over your feet as he guides you to the top of the hill.
“okay, and stand here.” Sebastian still hasn't answered your questions, you were sensing a pattern. but you obey and stand directly next to him. you stare down the hill, you feel taller.
“Sebastian? what are you doing?”
“do you trust me?” he asked plainly, a tease at the end of his words that caused your lip to quirk up slightly. it’s getting too easy for him to do this.
“I barely know you.”
“You know more than most.” Sebastian breathes out and quickly faces the sky again. “Now, breathe.”
you inhale slowly and exhale, your chest rises and you wonder why you trust him. you probably shouldn’t.
“scream,”
“what?”
“scream, scream as loud as you want, scream at the stars, scream at the clouds, scream at the world. just scream until you feel better.”
Sebastian finished and you look and see a solemn smile on his face. “You're crazy.”
“do it.”
you turn to the stars, keep your mouth shut. an invisible latch on it that’s stopped you from this for years - decades. You can’t help but wonder how often Sebastian does this and if his therapist told him to do this. Does he even go to therapy? probably not.
before you can even muster up anything to scream about, a deep and loud yell startles you. Sebastian begins screaming his head off and you're laughing suddenly, you don’t know why but you are.
“Come on.” he encourages, slightly disappointed that you didn’t join straight away. but Sebastian is good at pushing, and you need a lot of it.
“There's something about you, Sebastian Stan” you whisper enough for him to hear, it mixes in with the soft sounds of the wind.
“scream or I’ll cry myself to sleep.” Sebastian deadpans.
“This is manipulation.”
Sebastian just smiles and turns back around and screams, again. loud but you don’t flinch this time. playfully you roll your eyes, gulping down all your anxieties and you really hope the dam doesn't break fully and you end up crying. you scream, loud and shrill but Sebastian hears the pain in it and is proud you're letting at least a little bit of it out.
it died down and faded into belly laughter, Sebastian clutched his stomach and curled into himself. a wide Cheshire grin that matched yours now.
“I hope no one calls the cops on us,” he mentions through waves of laughter.
“Just name drop, we’ll be fine.” you wave him off and don’t notice that he’s staring at you with a glint in his eyes that are highlighted by the stars and moon. He looks gorgeous, only if you could see it. you’d know how love sick he was growing.
Sebastian's laughter subdued and he glanced from you and the large hill. an idea pops into his head and for a moment he wonders if he’s pushing too far, but it is forgotten when he goes to grab your hand.
“Now we roll!” he yells out, a childish grin on his face. you whip your head towards him and his hand that holds yours. he is so warm, you feel a sense of comfort in your chest.
“What?!”
and you’re rolling, Sebastian pulls you down and your face is met with wet grass. but you can’t help but just laugh some more when you find yourself at the bottom and in Sebastian’s arms. you're not bothered by the sudden closeness, you feel you should be.
“you’re a horrible influence, look at my hair!” you point out.
“Your hair looks great.” Sebastian says, one hand on your waist and the other patting any fly away or grass in your hair away.
his eyes glance to your lips, and you notice that. you feel your heart beating faster and you wonder if Sebastian can hear it too. with Sebastian so close, chest to chest, you're sure he can.
“you going to throw me off or…?” you gulp.
Sebastian just shakes his head, his iris glancing at every single detail of your face. “nope.”
“Oh.”
not to be cliche, but the world feels like it’s stopped. the quietest sound of Sebastian thumb grazing against your skin, the wind stops blowing through the grass and leaves and it’s just you and him.
“I hope I'm not misreading the situation…” Sebastian alludes, slowly closing the distance between you two.
“you’re not.” you breath out and barely a second later his lips are on yours.
it’s wrong, everything about this is wrong. you feel the rise of doom in your stomach. but he’s warm and soft against your lips and your heart says something different because it feels so right. he feels like the first drink on a night out, you know tomorrow will be hell but you couldn’t stop yourself because he feels so good.
Sebastian's tongue swipes across your lips and his hands grasp tighter on your hip and back. He flips you over gently, his knee is in between your thighs but it’s not sexual. He kisses you gently and fully, he doesn't tease and takes his time. you feel the grass beside your head and it pricks at your skin, but it doesn't bother you.
a small sound comes from each of your lips, a moan even. it’s not hungry or asking for more, you feel full and content. Sebastian isn’t looking for your body or making this kiss feel like some milestone to be advanced after.
but then he pulls back and you feel empty, it’s so confusing — you hate it.
“was that too much?” he asks, still so giddy and head high from having you against him.
“not at all. thank you.”
a moment of silence, it’s not uncomfortable or ungiving, but you pull away and Sebastian crawls off you. rising to his feet and lending you a hand. you check your phone, it’s late - way late.
“I think I should be getting back.” you sigh, this feels like the end of a movie. reality hits you tomorrow and you feel the high calm down, oh how will you replace it?
Sebastian looks a little disappointed, but he attempts a face for you to not see it. “Okay, I’ll drive you.”
He pulls you by the hand again and for the last time that night, you sit in his passenger seat and continue to listen to whatever’s on the radio. small and meaningless chatter, about movies and television. specifically horror for a while. Sebastian doesn’t like horror which shocks you. but he also makes fun of you for the fact your favorite movie is Rocky and mayday.
you watch him when he smiles and frowns or when he does that thing where he pokes his tongue on the side of his cheek, you deny to yourself that you think it’s hot. warm and orange lights from driving through a tunnel show on his face and your brain instantly thinks you want to make a movie with orange color grading, with Sebastian as the leading man. probably something depressing.
The thought of being in love with Sebastian plagues your mind for a moment, and you wonder if this is what it would feel like.
and you hate the feeling even more when he drops you off at the hotel and you're left alone again with nothing but your thoughts. you long to see him again and it scares you.
the orange bottle in your bag taunts you, you can’t help it. old habits die hard.
