People really do need to learn that people who are in fact guilty can be found not guilty in court. It happens all the time, especially in SA cases and ESPECIALLY when the man has more money and power than the woman.

The way the legal system works is that the burden is on the prosecution to prove the defendant’s guilt. If they don’t do that, then the defendant is found Not Guilty. They’re not found Innocent lol. Many juries have said they believe the defendant to be guilty but thought the prosecution didn’t have the case to prove it.

Is he truly not guilty? I have no idea. The defense’s strategy was to make her look unreliable, though how Virtanen could be reliable when he testified he was blackout I have no idea! But that’s hockey money and status baby! Look at everyone clamoring to excuse the 8 CHL players! And to be honest hockey culture doesn’t give me a ton of hope, so I’m okay sticking with the victim’s story because:

I know someone who was sa by a teacher with literal video proof from a surveillance camera and somehow he was found not guilty in court and was allowed to teach again. So not guilty in court definitely doesn't mean not guilty.

My heart aches so much for the victim. I can’t imagine the amount of pain she’s in from the verdict and also from the horrible harassment she’s getting from garbage people. It took a lot of strength for her to come forward. She didn’t deserve what she experienced nor the harassment she’s currently facing.

(Note: NOT GUILTY DOES NOT MEAN INNOCENCE NOR DOES IT MEAN THAT THE VICTIM LIED. REMEMBER OJ SIMPSON WAS ACQUITTED BUT IT DOESN’T MEAN HE WASN’T INVOLVED IN A CRIME).

It’s also disgusting how people are calling for him to return to the NHL (which he wasn’t that great of a player anyways). Playing hockey is a privilege, not a right. Also, everyone fails to mention that the jury was majority men so I’m not that surprised they sided with him. Believe survivors.

Very personal opinion incoming:

I am unhappy and upset, but mostly disappointment in the management. They usually value character and work ethic. Signing a guy who was fired for getting into a fight with his teammates seems very questionable, not to mention the whole court case issue...

Either this is the biggest mistake in all the DEL years or it's enough cold wind and shitty weather up here that he gets his shit together, plays some decent hockey and keeps his head down. (It also makes me miss our former captain whom I would've trusted to be a good enough leader to keep the team together and put someone in their place.)

I hope the current core of the team is solid enough to withstand the incoming storm. I'll keep an eye on the situation. Most fans seem to be divided into "we don't need someone like him" and "if he's good he deserves a second chance".

I’m disappointed but not surprised that a certain garbage person was signed to a PTO. The desperation of this team REEKS. Abusers do not deserve redemption arcs and privileges like this, just because a team is struggling. My heart goes out to the victim, who has to watch her abuser be rewarded. This is a disgusting and atrocious decision by Ken Holland. Hockey culture will never truly change if things like this continue to happen. Ken Holland also needs to be reminded that playing hockey is a privilege, not a right. J*ke could of gotten his life back together outside of playing a sport that he’s not very good at and could work on being a better person instead a smug douchebag who possibly got away with a crime.

EVANDER Kane raped and abused women for years and Edmonton signed him but you’re drawing the line at an innocent man?

I have said multiple times that I don't like that that oilers have signed Evander too because I don't like him for the things he has done.

I still like the oilers as a whole, but I definitely don't think they should have signed both of them. The only difference is that Jake was charged and went to court while Evander didn't, but it's still the same thing.
