I'm seriously just so sad that I didn't get to see her again in this role. She's literal perfection. I'd take a bullet for her. Heidi is Mother. Forever.
When I say she *became* Mary Jane, I don't simply mean she was doing a phenomenal job acting. I mean you literally could not tell where Heidi ended and Mary Jane began. I've never seen someone, on stage, on the screen, so perfectly embody a character before. It's actually really sad that she wasn't the original MJ because I guarantee she would have won a Tony for it. And on top of alllll of that... MY GIRL CAN SING. Christ on a bike can she siiiiing. Her voice is just...goddamn chef's kiss. I'll never stop loving you, Heidi Blickenstaff. I handed her my heart that night. I have a feeling she won't ever hurt it, even though she has no idea she has it.
Love you so much, Heidi!

Jagged Little Pill at the Pantages Theatre, a few weeks late:
Its tagline: “SOME SHOWS YOU SEE. THIS SHOW YOU FEEL.” Had decent hopes for this as a jukebox musical because it has an original plot and I already knew about half of the songs. But while it did have some interesting and moving scenes, I didn’t really feel that much, despite the intensity and earnestness of the subject matter.  However the cast was very good and maybe under other circumstances I would have found the show more affecting.
Favorite parts: the humor of “Ironic”, the staging of “Smiling,” and Bella’s performance in “Predator”
The sound was murky through most of the show and it was hard to catch any lyrics in group songs, but I didn’t feel like I was missing much plot.
Found MJ’s storyline the most engaging overall, Heidi Blickenstaff was good in what was not always a likable role.
Could not bring myself to care about the Frankie/Jo/Phoenix love triangle, so “You Oughta Know” had less impact than it might have otherwise.  I remember watching the song performance on that “One Night Only: The Best of Broadway” special and it seemed like it was more substantial out of context.
On the whole I thought performances were very good. Jade McLeod (Jo) has a beautiful tone to their voice which is evident in various songs, though not so much in “You Oughta Know.”
At intermission, it appeared that several rows in the back were pretty empty.
Set pieces moved out directly from the back of the stage; the movement of people and set elements seemed to be smooth, clean, and sharply executed.
Eavesdropping on people around me: the people behind me (an older couple) seemed to really enjoy the show both at intermission and at the end.

SEVENTEEN AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME
Playlist of BIG SONGS about being seventeen from musicals. ANGST. LOVE. JOY. INTENSITY.
Criteria:
Singer* must be 17: Explicit in canon ("Trapped where there ain't no future / Even at seventeen), confirmed in character breakdown, or implied by grade in school (11th or 12th grade)
Cannot be a song about a seventeen year old if they are not the singer (Dancing Queen from Mamma Mia)
Must be an emotive song in some way about their human experience. A song just being sung by seventeen year olds (Breaking Free from HSM) is not enough.
MUST INSPIRE THE FULL BODY FEELS
The Flow of the Playlist:
Starts in rage, then despair, then hope, then joy, then...something else. Which is basically what it is to be seventeen.
Notable Exemptions:
Where's Spring Awakening? THOSE KIDS ARE FOURTEEN YEARS OLD CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??
The High School Musical Characters can be presumed to be seventeen but the only, in my opinion, big feels songs were performances
Next to Normal: Gabe is 18, Natalie is 16, I am devastated
"Not Your Seed" from The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals inspired this playlist, but got excluded in the end because the singer is an alien who has taken the body of a seventeen year old
I listened to this and cleaned my apartment for 2 hours straight this is BIG ENERGY BIG EMOTION MUSIC IT'S GREAT
*If a group number at least half must be presumably seventeen. This excludes group numbers in Newsies and Les Mis.
