Have you ever thought to yourself: Yee howdy, I wish I could know what everyone thinks of my favorite character, and I also wish we could all definitively rank them in popularity based on the whims of the public? Then do I have the thing for you!
Right out the gate, it's time to vote for favorite characters. The votes for favorite NPC (human) and favorite NPC (other) will be running alongside each other, with the vote for NPC (other) starting a little later to make them both finish at the same time and end in an epic dual victory.
I have chosen to split them up because there's a lot of NPC's and we can expedite the process somewhat by having separate tournaments running alongside each other.
Humanoid creatures such as Pandorians residing in the circus will be counted as humans because that's how they choose to present and I will respect that.
Certain conditions apply regarding characters added to SSO just to host races, NPC's that are named but do not take part in quests, and characters from earlier games. these characters will not partake because the list is so. long. already.
Every poll will be accompanied by a picture and a brief description to refresh your memory, so don't worry if you can't remember them just by name! If you have any concerns or can't see your favorite NPC anywhere, send a message or an ask.
The first NPC (human) tournamnet will take place over 3 sessions of 40 posts per week, because it's 120 posts and I don't want to overwhelm you with that many posts. Once we've narrowed it down to 60 favorites it will be split into 2 sessions, and once we've only got 30 contestants left, I'll post them all in one go until a winner is declared. That's also when the NPC (other) polls will be posted.
Who will go up against who is randomized and can be found under the cut.

Hehehe
This just makes me picture like—
Atticus: "I am the great Atticus, leader of the stars! FACE MY WRATH!!!"
(Atticus points to John and Jack as if gesturing for his cult members to attack them, and John and Jack prepare their guns incase. But instead, the cult members just start pelletier them with snowballs, and John & Jack just stand there but try to dodge in confusion)
Atticus: "Yes! YESS!! FEEL THE FIRE OF MY RAGE!!" /j
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH YES
Please save them this is so funny

“‘Pen’ For Three Men, One Will Get Strap,” Toronto Star. May 16, 1932. Page 2. ---- Tromanes [PICTURED] Gets 5 Years, 10 Strokes and Shaw and Lebac 3 Years ---- Benard Tromanes will serve five years in Kingston penitentiary and will receive ten straps, as punishment for conspiracy and attempt to rob Harrison’s butcher shop, 710 Queen St. W., a week ago.
Frank Shaw, who was with him, and conspired in the attempt, was sentenced to three years in Kingston.
James Lebac, clerk in the store, who assisted in the plans and then ‘got cold feet,’ also was sentenced to three years.
‘You are just as guilty as the others,’ Magistrate Browne told Lebac. ‘You told the other two men how the robbery could be done.’
Wets of the Week-End Twenty-one men were charged with being drunk. Alex Barr was given three months; Mike Reilly, $20 or 20 days; Thos. Griffin $50 or one month; Frank Scholes, $50, or one month; Frank Scholes, $50, or one month. The others received minor penalties.
For sleeping in a box car, and having no visible means of support, Andrew Duncan, from Scotland was given 30 days. He will be deported.
Harry Hannan and Morton Darkin charged with trespass, were turned over to the Salvation Army.
On his way to North Bay, Edgar Pelletier, from Montreal, slept in a box car and was discovered by police. he got $10 or ten days.
Taken by Salvation Army On his way to North Bay, William Wilkins loitered too long in Toronto and found himself in the hands of the police, charged with vagrancy. The court turned him over to the friendly hands of the Salvation Army.
Jack Grainger was picked up as a vagrant, but because he had a home in Oshawa, he was told to go there. Martin Curreton was also discharged.
Arthur Wilcox, alleged vagrant, was placed in custody fro a week’s remand. The Salvation Army received William Haller who came from Saskatchewan.
Charged with stealing a ring and a wrist watch, Allan Foster was put on probation for one year.
Pleading guilty to stealing $50 worth of tobacco, Gordon Rafalovitch was placed on probation for 6 months definite, plus 6 months indeterminate.
Spoiled Neighbor’s Garden Charged with common assault on a neighbor, Saul Staiman was fined $1 and costs.
‘Staiman’s brother was pulling up plants in my garden,’ the complainant charged. ‘I ordered him away and Staiman came over and punched me.’
‘I pushed him’ Staiman admitted.
‘You have no right to push anyone. Your brother has no right to destroy this man’s plants,’ the bench declared.
James O’Connor, charged with shop-breaking, failing to satisfy the court why he was where he was at the time certain goods disappeared. He was given 12 months definite and 12 months indeterminate.
[AL: Tromans or Tromanes was 23, married, from London, England, was an abstainer and a Baptist and a bookkeeper - he had no previous criminal record, and the desire to rob the butcher shop was apparently driven by desperation, eviction threats, missed paycheques, and general stress caused by the Depression. He was convict #2654 at Kingston Penitentiary, and worked in the kitchen in the officer’s mess. He had no complaints, he claimed, about his time in prison, and did not join the October 1932 strikes and riot at Kingston Penitentiary. Nonetheless, he did have some requests - he wanted a better visiting system for his family, more letters, better tobacco rations. He was especially concerned about “if there could be anything done for the young fellows, 16 and 17 years, who come in here. I know a lot and seen a lot...I can take care of myself but would like to see something done for the young fellows.” He received his straps in July 1932. He was transferred to Collin’s Bay Penitentiary, the low security camp, in April 1933, becoming convict #545 there, and was released by expiration of sentence March 1935.
Shaw was convicted of conspiracy rather than armed robbery.  He was 24, married, from Detroit, was a cabinet maker, and was covered in scars and a prominent tattoo  - on his right forearm he had a dagger, heart, scroll, and words: Death Before Dishonor.” He had no criminal record, though his brother came to the pen shortly after and he was more ‘experienced’. Shaw was convict #2681, worked in the cabinet workshop, and was transferred July 1932 to Collin’s Bay - he was released from there in March 1934. Lebac or Lebuc was 26, single, from Montreal, and was also sentenced also for attempted arson as well as conspiracy. He had no previous criminal record, and worked as a cashier and butcher’s assistant in the shop.  He was convict #2696 at Kingston Penitentiary, and also worked in the kitchen. In August 1932 he was transferred to Collin’s Bay, becoming inmate #431. He was returned from that institution in October 1933, apparently due to ill health, becoming convict #3235, and was pardoned December 1934.
Note also the high level of ‘poverty crimes’ - not just robbery and shopbreaking prompted by economic chaos, but also beggars, vagrants, tramps, trespassers and petty theft. The response - locking them up and exiling them or sending to the Salvation Army - was clearly failing, but no other idea presented itself to the forces of law and order.]

Any Penderwicks headcanons you could spare?
of course!
Rosalind wants to be a professional baker for practically all of her life until she goes to college and volunteers at a farm with some of her friends and she falls in love
i can just imagine her talking about her career change with such enthusiasm
"plants are great Tommy! they're like kids that don't talk back or demand food! And I can bake with them! and they're so pretty especially flowers! flowers are so pretty! and i like gardening who doesn't? no wonder Dad's a botanist!!!"
honestly she's just so happy
Mr. Penderwick is happy too because he loves plants and now he talk about them without people rolling their eyes at him
although Rosy is very against all the pressed plants in his office
okay i feel like this is generally accepted in the fandom but no Penderwick sibling is straight
Rosy? bi. no one is that obsessed with their best friend Anna
Skye? oh Skye's a lesbian and she has a very dramatic enemies-to-friends-to-lovers thing going on with Melissa and she's also ace
Jane? well no one really knows her orientation not even her but "love is a vibe guys if someone has the vibe then i'm in love"
(cue Skye rolling her eyes in the background)
Batty is also ace and she's also hopelessly in love with Keiko
Ben and Rafael have been in love since the first grade and they can be found in their apartment making movies, speaking Klingon, and adopting dogs
and Lydia and Alice are being bad influences together for all of eternity
Jane spends a year during college studying literature in the UK and she comes back with the fakest British accent ever
she actually keeps up the charade for a like a solid month until Skye laughs at her so hard she just gives up
no one is allowed to talk about it
Batty and Jeffrey put on concerts every vacation
Rosalind tried to teach Lydia how to bake once
and only once
Nick is still, to this day, trying to find Batty her sport
Under Penderwick Family Honor, no one is allowed to tell Nick that Batty joined the tennis team in high school with Keiko
this leads to a lot of hilarity whenever Nick's home
someone always trips up and almost talks about it and Batty just dramatically whips around and glares at them
she and Skye are very good at glaring
Skye is always on the roof of their garage
Iantha and Mr. Penderwick know but she hasn't died yet so they let her be
when Aunt Claire got married Skye almost refused to be in the wedding because of the past flower trauma at her uncle Gordan's wedding
Hoover the dog gets a very special shout out at Claire and Turron's wedding because without him Claire wouldn't have broken her ankle and she and Turron wouldn't have fallen in love
when Keiko and Batty get married they joke about only inviting people's pets and leaving the people at home
Ben and Rafael are so upset that Cameron High School doesn't actually teach Klingon that they start a protest
no one actually goes but that doesn't stop them
they become such a nuisance that the principle - sick of the Penderwicks and their hijinks after the first four and already terrified of the sixth one - just lets them teach themselves the language in the back of the library during study hall
Lydia and Jack become best friends and Alice hates it but also loves it
i actually can't tell if i like Jack/Lydia or Alice/Lydia better
whatever either way that trio is iconic
after Skye moves to California Jeffrey and Jane grow closer
idk why i ship them so much but i really do
maybe it's because Jeffrey wrote music for her
he still does
a lot
the Penderwicks never cease to be chaotic and i miss them

NOVEMBER 2, 2020
“So André, we’ve heard some rumors of a girl possibly joining the tournament?” One person asked over the zoom call that had been the only way for media outlets to ask their questions they had for different staff members or world junior players.
“We’ll see. There is still some things we need to figure out first especially with everything going on in the world with Covid-19, we may have to wait till next World Junior Tournament.” Coach Tourigny said.
“Okay next question goes to Rob Smith from..”
You turned off your phone. Woah. This was kinda cool. A girl in the World Junior tournament? That was the talk of the town.... well, talk of the country you should say, all of the girls were trying to figure out where they could tryout, trying to email the coaches, email any staff member, really. You had always been good at hockey but you’d never thought about going to the World Junior Tournament. -
“Hey Y/N!” Your mom said, walking in the front door, taking her mask off and walking over to the kitchen island where you were sitting.
“Hi mom! How was your day?” You ask, putting your phone down and looking at your mom who was standing on the other side of the island.
“It was alright! Same old people coming in and out of the office.. did you see the interview with André Tourigny about the possibility of girls playing in the World Junior competition?” Your mom asked, turning around and opening the cabinet to start fixing dinner.
“Yeah I did. It’s pretty cool!” You said, picking up your phone again after getting some texts from your friends.
”You should maybe tryout!” Your mom said, looking at you.
“Meh.” Was all you said as you got up from the kitchen island and went over to the living room couch and sat down there.

NOVEMBER 6, 2020
You were sitting at your desk typing out a email when you got a call from a number that you didn’t recognize so out of instinct, put your phone on silent and continued typing, until you here a notification come from your phone, you look and a voicemail has been left from that same unfamiliar number. You clicked on the notification, pressed play, put the phone on your desk, and listened to the voicemail, continuing to type.
”Hi, this is Michael Dyck, I’m in assistant coach for the 2021 Team Canada World Junior team. I’ve been looking at your highlights due to the possibility of a female joining the tournament this year. Call me back as soon as possible. Thank you, bye.”
Your jaw dropped. Why would he be calling you? Why would they look at your highlights out of all the female players in Canada?
You picked up your phone, ran out of your room, down the stairs and into the living room where your mom, dad, & brother was sitting.
“The assistant coach for Team Canada just left me a voicemail and said he has been watching my highlights and he asked me to call him back!” You said, running over to sit on the seat next to your mom on the couch.
”Well call him back!” Your dad said.
You nodded and pressed the phone button, calling Michael Dyck back.
”Y/N! Thank you so much for returning my call! How are you?” Micheal asked.
”I’m doing great! And it’s no problem!” You said, looking at your mom with wide eyes.
”That’s good! Hope your family is doing well and staying healthy. Anyways, I wanted to discuss the possibility of you becoming apart of Team Canada.” He said.
”Me?” You said, coving your mouth with your hand out of excitement.
Michael laughed, “Yes, you. Me, head coach André Tourigny, and the rest of the Team Canada‘s staff has been looking through you highlights and we think you would be a perfect fit for this year’s team. You would still need to tryout but there is a great chance you will make it onto the final roster. If you do make it onto the final roster, you won’t be home for Christmas and most likely New Years too. We have no idea how long this whole quarantining thing is going to be, but we would love to have you join us at the selection camp in Red Deer on November 16 for Team Canada.”
”It’s a honor! Thank you!” You said, looking over at your parents and brother.
”No, thank you! I’ll be in touch, have a good one, Y/N.” Michael said.
”You too!” You said, before hanging up.
”What just happened.” You said, getting up and walking back over to the steps.
”Our daughter could be the first girl on Team Canada!” Your parents said, laughing and high-fiving each other.
You laughed and went back into your room.
No really. What just happened?

NOVEMBER 8, 2020
It was a few days after the call with Michael before it got released to the public that Y/N L/N was the only female that had been chosen to participate in the selection camp. Some had good thoughts and some had bad thoughts about the situation. Either way, you were still terrified. Your friends & family were both so excited for you, and they were still going to be happy for you even if you didn’t make it past the selection camp.

NOVEMBER 16, 2020
You walked into the airport, seeing camera equipment everywhere, following the players.
“You must be Y/N!” André said.
”That’s me!” You laugh nervously.
”It’s very nice to meet you! I would give you a hug but covid is kind of making that impossible.” Coach Tourigny said, laughing after the last part of his sentence.
“No you’re fine! It’s nice to meet you too!” You said, looking around at the other players.
You and Coach André talked for a few minutes until you went over to the group of players, standing around different parts of the airport.
”Hi!” You heard someone say, you turned around and saw a brown haired boy with dark eyes.
”Hey!” You said, still not knowing who the boy was.
”You must be Y/N! I’m Braden! Braden Schneider!” Braden said.
”Oh very nice to meet you!“ You said, smiling up at him.
“Nice to meet you too! Hopefully we both make it onto the final roster! You seem like such a sweet person!“
”Oh thank you! You seem nice too!” You said.
You and Braden talked to each other for a few more moments before someone else came up to you two. You figured out the boy that had came up to you was a boy named Ryan. Ryan Suzuki! He was very nice and friendly. You also met Kirby Dach, Bowen Byram, and Dylan Holloway. They all seemed very nice!
After meeting Braden, Ryan, Kirby, Bowen, and Dylan, someone else came up to you.
”Y/N! How are you?” Someone said.
”Hi! You must be Mitch Love!” You said through your mask.
”That’s me! It’s a honor to have you joining us in Red Deer!” Mitch said, laughing.
”Oh yeah! No worries! It’s a even bigger honor to be here!” You said, chatting with Mitch a few more minutes till he said he had to go and you sat down by yourself.
”Alright everyone, we have the plane ready to go! Just go through that gate and there should be some airline staff members to help you.” Mitch said, gesturing over to the gate.
You nodded and headed for the gate, with all your other possible World Junior teammates.

After the rest of the players trying out for Team Canada took their seats, you were left trying to find a seat.
”You can sit here!” Someone said.
You turned around to see a blonde headed boy who you had never met before.
”Oh thank you!” You said, taking the seat next to him.
”I’m Kaiden, Kaiden Guhle! Nice to meet you.” He said, smiling over at you.
”Hey. I’m Y/N! Nice to meet you too.” You said smiling back at him.
”So where are you from?” Kaiden asked after the safety instructions were announced and the plane was taking off.
“I’m from about 20 minutes from Toronto! How about you?” You asked, looking at the screen that was in front of you, attached to the back of the seat to whoever was sitting in front you of you.
“Edmonton.“ He said, looking out of the airplane window.
”Oh, that’s cool.” You said.
”Yeah. I’m just ready to get to Red Deer for selection camp.” Kaiden said, looking back over at you.
”Me too.” You said, tapping on the screen in front of you.
