Oh Jacen fucking hates centerpoint so much. Like he is usually already a bit sceptical over Corellian attitudes and culture ( that is a whole other story ) but centerpoint kind of just became the embodiment of Corellia’s WORST sides to him. Not only is he very aware of how connected his little brother is to the station and how deadly it became in Thrackan’s hands ( and remained in his hands for far too long ), the station was also used directly against him and cost him an ENTIRE fleet during the second galactic civil war. He was not exactly sad to see it finally destroyed eventually, especially considering it meant the death of the final lasting impressions Thrackan left on the world even after his death with centerpoint being the home of that poor robot he programmed to think of itself as Anakin.

Jacen has never had a single positive thought over this damn station, not a single one. He didn’t like it from the start and his opinion on it has only gotten WORSE and worse over the years. Between the fact it cost them the support of the Hapans during the Vong war and became yet another burden for Anakin to bear, yeah, if you ask Jacen about his opinion on centerpoint? He will simply say that this station should have never been build. For years, Jacen, who was a pacifist for most of his life, could not fathom how anyone could even CONSIDER firing centerpoint station when it is such a horrible weapon of mass destruction. He quite literally urges his brother not to use it when Thrackan attempted to pressure him into firing it, horrified at the possibility Anakin might even think about doing what Thrackan asks of him:

"Anakin, you can't," Jacen said, wide-eyed. "Step away from it. Step away from it now."

Of course, he did also very much attempt to seize power over centerpoint himself in the battle that finally saw its destruction, many years later — a weapon capable of mass destruction was suddenly a very tempting thing for a man who was currently losing a war and had to get the threat of the Jedi order off his back though in all honesty he isn’t sure if he could ever push the damn button HIMSELF to fire centerpoint after all that has gone down on that damn station. Even Caedus would rather avoid the damn thing at all cost if he wasn’t kind of dependent on something as game changing as this.

jaina solo is mary sue

What an interesting assertion to leave in my inbox! Especially because without context it’s not entirely clear whether that’s meant to be a question (do I think Jaina Solo is a Mary Sue?) or a challenge (e.g. “Jaina Solo is a Mary Sue, prove me wrong”).

And, assuming we conclude this statement is true, is that supposed to be a bad thing? If Jaina is a Mary Sue, am I not allowed to like her as a character? Or is she supposed to be my guilty pleasure or something if I do like her? (I don’t really have guilty pleasures, anyway, I prefer just to have pleasures.) I do have lots of thoughts, so thank you in advance, dear Anon, for the ask and the opportunity to share them.

At this point I will freely admit that I have not read a ton of Jaina Solo stuff in Legends. A lot of Wookieepedia articles and fics in which she appears, yes, a lot of the actual books in which she appears, no. I do have a version of the character that I put into my Sequel Trilogy fix-it fic series, but she has some significant differences from her Legends canon counterpart (a couple big ones being that her turned-to-the-Dark-Side brother isn’t her twin, and she’s the younger sister by quite a lot).

However, being around the fandom one does glean some general opinions, so I’ll take a shot at talking about “Jaina Solo is a Mary Sue.” Buckle up, I’m going to be very wordy here.

I really recommend the @thisweekinfandomhistory podcast episode they did on the concept of “the Mary Sue” — it’s a great rundown of where the concept came from, how it evolved over time, how it has affected fanfiction writing as well as mainstream characters in books, TV, and film, and some of the not-so-subtle ways it’s been used to police how we write or how we enjoy femme-presenting characters. The general concept of the Mary Sue is of a (almost always female) character who is sort of a blatant self-insert, where they have all kinds of amazing skills or powers, and are so attractive that everyone is in love with them or wants to be their friend, and they’re friends with all the main characters, and the story sort of starts being about how awesome they are, they saved the day and everyone clapped. The idea is that writing a Mary Sue into your story makes your story terrible and boring and they’re just a flat character who sucks. I think.

So — Jaina Solo. In Legends canon she is:

Strongly connected to main characters we know and love (eldest child and only daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa and niece of Luke Skywalker)

Extremely strong in the Force and a Jedi with the crazy Skywalker-brand Force lineage

An incredible pilot and very mechanically savvy as well (also probably helped out by the whole extremely-Force-sensitive thing as well as having at least two incredible pilots in the family)

Able to speak Shryiiwook (makes sense given that Chewie is her father’s best friend, has a life debt to her father, and is pretty much part of the family)

Very attractive (some combo of her mother’s and her father’s good looks, probably more so Leia’s)

Everyone is in love with her (there is an ongoing war among various love interests, including Jagged Fel, Zekk, and Kyp Durron, plus Ta’Chume once tried to marry her off to Isolder when his wife (also the mother of Jaina’s close friend Tenel Ka) was still alive and very much still married to him)

Super-special because of her twin bond with Jacen and being the Sword of the Jedi and having the Vong think she was their trickster goddess

Okay, so there could be some ingredients here that point to Mary Sue for Jaina, particularly the “she’s extremely skilled and the best at all these things” and “everyone is fighting over her affections” business. I would argue the fight of Jaina’s love interests is less about Jaina and more about the fact that in the era many of those books were written, apparently the only way they knew to give women conflict was to a) have them fight with other women (this is a problem they gave Leia a lot too) or b) have them worry about which man they should choose. Or the typical back and forth among authors who had competing love interests and wanted theirs to win. (Side note: Jaina and Tenel Ka should have gotten together at least for a while. Or Jaina should have pulled a Kelly Taylor from 90210 and said “I choose me.”)

Here’s the thing about Jaina having mad skills at multiple things, though. As you can see from most of the bullets above, her skills aren’t just out of the blue so someone could make an overpowered self-insert character. There are solid reasons for those skills. And why do we hear so much about her adventures and her skills? Well, the book series in which adolescent/adult Jaina appears are called Young Jedi Knights and The New Jedi Order. If she’s one of the titular Young Jedi Knights, or a member of the New Jedi Order, she’s one of the beings the book is about! And honestly, however you feel about those series, you’re gonna have a bad time if the whole New Jedi Order series is about Jedi who have no skills and always lose and suck.

Hey, you know who else has a lot of skills and is an excellent pilot and does crazy bonkers things with the Force and often comes and saves the day and has lots of love interests in Legends? Luke Skywalker. Is Luke a Mary Sue? (Well, he’s a man. Being a Mary Sue is apparently reserved for women. So I guess not.)

I don’t think Jaina is a Mary Sue, but let’s say she is and go back to my earlier point: so what?

Women are not exactly featured in the Star Wars universe. My girl Leia is a main character, but there are more women dancing for a Hutt in Return of the Jedi than actually have speaking lines in the original trilogy. (The minuscule number of humans of color in the Star Wars universe is a whole other issue, so blatant that SNL once did a skit about it featuring Lando.)

Maybe we get to have a female character who is beautiful and smart, crazy powerful in the Force, a kickass Jedi, an ace pilot with more kills at nineteen than several of the Rogues put together, who brings all the boys to the yard. (And probably plenty of beings of other genders, let’s be real.) Who is Han Solo and Leia Organa’s beloved daughter, Luke Skywalker’s beloved niece, Chewbacca’s beloved family, Jacen and Anakin’s beloved sister, Mara Jade’s beloved niece and Jedi apprentice, friend to many. Who struggles with her identity and her purpose, who grieves, who grapples with the Dark Side, who worries about winning peace for the galaxy but ending up alone in her life. Maybe I want to read about and write her adventures — which could, yes, include which being she ends up with romantically. Maybe I put a little of myself in there, or a lot of myself, or what I’d want to be if I had even half the talents she has and lived in the Star Wars universe.

Maybe we get to have a kickass Organa-Solo daughter with a purple lightsaber, as a treat. And maybe we get to have as many treats as we want.

TL;DR: “jaina solo is a mary sue” 1. No, she isn’t. 2. Maybe she is, and maybe that’s okay. Great, even.

Ahsoka "Shadow Warrior" Liveblog

Okay first off, really? That's the title we're going with? Lol Filoni. Okay.

Open on Seatos, okay.

You know it just occurred to me? The long lingering shots we're so fond of, and the deliberately relaxed pacing are very animesque.

Theatrical serious anime, I mean.

In particular I'm thinking of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, which liked to diverge from the plot to just kind of wander through shots of the environment, for atmosphere purposes I guess.

Wonder if that or something similar was an influence on Filoni's directing style.

The woods also look very ethereal.

I had to rewatch this episode it was that important

spoilers under the cut that you’ve probably already seen somewhere lol

1. CHOPPER THE WORLD’S BEST BABYSITTER

2. ANAKIN’s SMILE. HAYDEN’s MOVE. I STILL CAN’T FORM WORDS.

3. I LOVE BABYSOKA. I think Ariana Greenblatt was the perfect choice for this role. I feel like this is actually the best anyone’s done with casting an animated role in live action, she looks like and embodies Ahsoka so well!!! THIS FUCKING SHOT (the cinematography and lighting in this episode is STUNNING, I am so so so glad they put so much work into this because this is the kind of Star Wars we deserve!! the cinematography in this matches the Eye of Aldhani episode of Andor)

4. as previously mentioned on my page, Hayden in Jedi armor 🤯☠️

5. Ashoka and Anakin, running through the battle:

AHSOKA: “What about my training?!”

ANAKIN: “This is your training!”

I see what you’re doing there, Filoni. I love how psychologically Filoni sees Star Wars in general, he’s always focused on trauma and healing, esp in Rebels.

6. I do kind of wish there could have been more emotional closure (within the dialogue esp) between Anakin and Ahsoka…but I’m wondering if we didn’t get closure because Hayden is going to come back in another episode (I hope so 🤭)

7. I didn’t realize Ahsoka didn’t have ears lol

8. So many purrgil!!’ they’re so beautiful!!! (why do I think the plural of purrgil is purrgil? what led me to believe this? is this canon lol)

ALSO I think the purrgil serve as a really significant metaphor of environmentalism. the imperial forces want to travel to another galaxy? they steal materials to build a giant disruptive machine to get them there. the rebel forces just have to connect with their environment (the purrgil) and rely on animals (nature) who are BUILT to travel to other galaxies (ie why are climate scientists trying to build machines instead of a tree!!! that sucks up carbon and purifies our air?)

I will stop rambling now 😂

but honorable mention to Force sensitive Jacen AND an actual Kanan mention? fuck me up

ALSO not them mentioning the disaster lineage with all of that legacy talk 😂 does anyone feel like they’re paying attention to us? (I’m joking, they’re definitely paying attention to us)

The Best Thing That’s Ever Happened to Me

Pairing: Luke Skywalker x F!Jedi!Reader (both are older in this fic) Summary: Luke has to face his worst nightmare yet: losing you. A/N: "Remnants" is a series one shots in no particular order about the budding relationship between you and Luke as he trains you in the ways of the Force. MAJOR ANGST and READER DEATH in this one (I hurt myself with my own writing). Based on a super sad dream I had last night, but I promise there’s a twist that gives it a fluffy ending, cuz I just couldn’t bare torturing Luke too much. Read here on AO3.

You coughed as the surrounding smoke filled your lungs. The Jedi academy on Yavin IV that you and Luke had worked so hard to build over the last few decades was burning and crumbling around you, the smoke turning the usually pretty twilight black. Most of your padawans were dead, and Luke and the son you shared were who knew where fighting for their lives. You could sense their fear and despair through the Force as you fought for your own.

“You don’t have to do this, Jacen!” you screamed as you blocked another blow from your nephew’s lightsaber. You had sensed him turning to the Dark Side a few years ago and although you and Luke had tried as hard as you could to help him, it was to no avail. He had fallen, slowly at first, then faster than you, Luke, or even his parents and sister could catch him. Then he’d just disappeared with a few other padawans, showing up yesterday with what could be considered a small army of Sith and battle droids to wreck what had become your peaceful little home. Although most of his lackeys lay destroyed around you, you still had him to contend with and he’d taken out nearly all of your current students.

Jacen didn’t reply, instead taking wild swings at you with his weapon. As you parried another blow, you could see his now yellow eyes glower at you, his teeth bared as if he wanted to reach out and bite. You could feel the hatred flowing through him and continued to defend yourself, having trouble summoning the courage to land a blow. You and Luke had tag-teamed to train him from the time he was seven and you had so many good memories: hand-drawn birthday cards, staying up all night making pastries with him when the nightmares became too much, taking breaks to play with him and Grogu, him hugging you tightly around you middle after giving him flying lessons with a heartfelt, “I love you, Y/N.”

“The Jedi,” Jacen panted, pushing your saber closer to your chest with his own, “need to fall.”

“We can help you—” You cried out as Jacen used the Force to launch you into an already crumbling wall. Your weight toppled what was left as you landed with a thud. You slowly sat up, the ache in your old joints a development in the last ten years that you weren’t a fan of. A brick landed hard on your head, making you fall back flat on your back.

Before you could register what was happening, Jacen Solo was on top of you. Searing pain exploded in your abdomen and you gasped, suddenly feeling like all the air had been sucked out of you, and lay there in shock. Jacen’s golden eyes suddenly turned sad, returning to the familiar brown you knew so well.

His lower lip trembled as he stared down at the saber arcing through your stomach. “I…I’m s-sorry.” He took a shuddery breath before turning off his saber and letting it fall to the ground, his hands hovering over your wound as you continued to gasp for air beneath him. “Wait…Wait, I didn’t mean—”

“Y/N!!!” Luke’s scream tore through the air and rippled through the Force in the distance. You felt the power roll off of him in waves and weren’t sure what he was doing, but it was apparently enough to scare the daylights out of your attackers.

A fellow Sith suddenly grabbed Jacen’s shoulders and yanked him out of your field of vision. “We have to go now!”

Unable to move, you heard the sound of several departing ships before seeing them race towards the planet’s atmosphere. All you were left with was the crackle of the flames. You closed your eyes for a minute, trying to take in a deep breath and failing, until you heard the sound of feet sprinting towards you.

You were lifted against a chest and registered your husband’s familiar smell. Your name came out on a shuddery exhale as his flesh hand lifted your face to look at his. He glanced down at your wound and tears filled his eyes. “Maker, no,” he breathed. His breath carried a welcome coolness to your overheated face and you ran a hand through his graying hair, still as soft as ever, before letting your fingers scratch at his beard. His blue eyes met yours, their spark unchanged by the years, but you could see the panic crawling behind them.

“Ben—” you breathed out.

“He’s safe with Grogu,” Luke answered, his voice cracking as he cradled you in his lap. He pressed his forehead to yours and you could feel him reaching deep into the Force for the healing power your little green padawan had taught you long ago. But you both knew it was too late as sounds around you started to fade and several white spots appeared in your vision.

“Don’t…” you took a shuddery breath in, feeling tears fill your own eyes as well, “don’t go to the Dark Side. Promise me.”

“Y/N—”

“Promise me.”

He stared at you for a moment, tears opening falling down his face and creating streaks in the dirt and sweat. “I promise.” He kissed you hard with salty lips before his shoulders began to shake and a strangled sob tore from his throat.

You brushed the tears away with weak, shaking fingers. “I love you so much, Luke.”

Luke kissed you again, pressing his forehead to yours. “I love you, too. You and Ben are the best things that ever happened to me.” He pressed you closer to his chest and you could feel his devastation through the Force. You reached for Ben and felt similar despair and could sense he and Grogu were running towards you as fast as they could, but were still so far away. I love you and am proud of you, you sent to all three of them through the Force. And I will always be with you.

“I’ll find you through the Force again,” you whispered against Luke’s lips.

He nodded. “We’ll be together again one day…” His breath shuddered out as he pulled back to look at you, tears streaming down his face like a waterfall. His blue eyes were bright were more to come as he began, “I’m sorry—”

“Shhh,” you said, rubbing your thumbs back and forth across his cheeks as his hand fisted in your hair. “It’s not your fault…Take care of Ben and Grogu for me—and don’t forget yourself…I love you, Luke.” The last thing you saw was your husband’s face crumbling in a wail and felt his keen through the Force as your vision went white and suddenly, you couldn’t feel anything at all.

Six months later, Luke left your favorite flowers at your grave, still feeling torn in two—

A loud crash jerked Luke out of his slumber and he bolted upright in bed, panting. He looked around the dark room and recognized the bedroom he shared with you in the small, stone house on Yavin IV. He looked at his wrinkle-free hands and felt the smooth sides of his face before swinging his legs out of bed and bolting for the refresher. Flipping the light on, he sighed in relief at the shorter, brown hair staring back at him. He grabbed the edge of the sink and breathed a sigh of relief.

That relief was short-lived as he glanced over to the bed, expecting to see your sleeping form still curled up. You really could sleep through anything—except you weren’t there.

Panic gripped Luke’s chest and he could feel his breath becoming harder to reach. He rushed out of the bedroom and down the hall to where he heard movement from the kitchen. His chest slammed into yours as you also fled out the door to meet him halfway down the hall, letting out a muffled oof.

“Sorry,” you said just as he reached out to steady you so you wouldn’t fall. “Are you o—”

You let out another noise of surprise as Luke crushed you against his chest, burying his face in your neck. He took a deep breath, the first he felt he could take, as he inhaled the sweet scent of your skin, gathering your hair in his hands like coveted silk. “M-maker,” he stuttered out into your skin, holding you even tighter.

You held him equally as tight. “I can feel you panicking. What happened?”

Luke turned his head slightly so he could speak, forcing himself to register that you were alive, well, and warm in his arms. “A nightmare. I lost you and when I woke up and you weren’t there, I thought…” He forced himself to exhale, his breath blowing your hair.

“You’re shaking.” You rubbed your hands in gentle circles on the bare skin of his back. “I’m okay. You’re okay. Grogu’s okay.”

He frowned. “How do you know—”

“Your panic was strong. I saw some of the dream, but just the end.”

He finally pulled back to look at you, cradling your face reverently between his hands. “And the baby?”

“Ben’s asleep.” You glanced at his dark bedroom just a few doors down before turning back to your husband, cupping his wrists in your hands. “I just fed him. That’s why I was in the kitchen, putting the bottle away.”

Luke sighed and nodded, pressing a searing kiss to your lips, two more to each cheek, and one to your forehead before pulling you against his chest. He held you more gently this time, resting his cheek against your hair. “You don’t think I woke Grogu or the other students up, do you?”

You shook your head against him as his arms snaked around your middle, letting one of yours rest across his strong shoulders while the other traced the scars from the emperor’s Force lightning that littered his torso, arms, and lower neck. He sighed at the feeling. “I only know because I know you so well.” You paused, soaking in the feeling of being wrapped up in him. “I love you.”

“I love you, sweetheart, so much,” he breathed, letting the relief finally wash over him. He twisted to look at you and allowed himself a small smile before kissing your lips again, committing their taste to memory. Then, just in case he didn’t tell you enough, added, “You and Ben are the best things that have ever happened to me. I’m so glad you’re here with me.”

You smiled. “Me, too. But we should try to get some sleep before Ben wakes up again. He’ll probably get hungry again in a few hours.”

Seeing Anakin in his ROTS era again, dueling someone, it's like time didn't go by at all. The nostalgiaaaaaa.

There's something very significant here about Anakin walking away with his lightsaber in the same position as the one he'd had walking toward the Jedi Temple during Knightfall.

Huyang's description of Anakin as "intense" is so right lol.

This scene is fucking awesome.

The musiccccccc.

The rising water, the peaceful gradualness of it, reminds me of the Living Waters of Mandalore from Mando S3.

Also, the sunlight coming into the Ghost- it reminds me of that one scene of Andor.

They're literally just gonna use the purrgil to gtfo of there and deal with the New Republic when they get back Lmaooooo. Once a rebel, always a rebel.

Oh god, this scene is painfully peaceful. LOOK AT ALL THOSE PURRGIL. Now I'm sad all over again with the tragedies of Rebels S4.

Thoughts after the finale?

Ooh *rubs hands*

Right off the top, RIP Ray Stevenson 😢 What a great character to leave us with, and with such a jaw-dropping final moment! I don't know what they have planned for the story line (no deep fakes, plz!). Though I don't particularly care about the Mortis gods too much, I know that's making a lot of folks lose their mind, and it's definitely a different way to branch out the story.

Confession - I was about 15% hoping for a Kanan appearance, since they did so much with Anakin. No luck, but what a sweet scene with Ezra building his new light saber! And Huyang talking about Caleb/Kanan AND giving him that piece he'd saved just for him? So Ezra's comes apart now, I guess? Sobbing! Great scene. (Side note, I thought kyber crystals were kind of rare/hard to find? But this is the second LS Ezra's just made without any mention of where the crystal came from?? IDK, I'm not too concerned about it.) Also, love that it's blue again! But really wish he'd done the blaster thing again, that was rad.

I love the little Noti so much. I hope we see them again.

Great fight scenes. Loved all the teamwork. Ezra in full Jedi mode 👁👅👁 Eman rocking this role so hard! And that Force jump?! Jaw dropping. Kind of on the fence about Sabine's emerging Force abilities. Still not sold that was a needed character trait.

Did anyone have Zombie Stormtroopers on their bingo card?? Marrok was re-animated (I guess?), but he still spoke and acted like a normal person? These guys were shambling braaaaains undead type. Very creepy and cool. And all those coffins(?) in the Chimera - Thrawn going to have a full army of them?

Sucks we STILL have people trapped in the other galaxy, but A.) we know where they are and that they're safe, and, more importantly, the other characters know; and B.) there's at least a chance, maybe that they could hitch a ride with the purgil on their return trip?? 🤷‍♀️

Ezra exiting that ship in full stormtrooper armor - a bit illogical, but totally worth the call-back! And Chopper immediately recognizing him and going over to say hi in the sweetest way 😭😭 (Though I still say it would have been hilarious if Chopper had acted irritated and run over his foot) But who the hell decided to cut the camera away before Ezra and Hera hugged?!? And no introduction to Jacen?? JAIL! JAIL FOR ONE THOUSAND YEARS!

Overall enjoyable episode. Interesting that two master/apprentice teams were left behind, though one on the outs. Is there going to be a season 2 before the big Crossover movie where we can see them interact? Maybe Shin will be tempted to be a light side (or light grey side) Force user? It would also be the best place for a rescue/return rather than use movie time for it. Guess we shall see!
