Jabra Ibrahim Jabra, "In The Deserts Of Exile," translated from Arabic by Mounah Khouri and Hamid Algar.
"Spring after spring,
In the deserts of exile, What are we doing with our love,
When our eyes are full of frost and dust?
Our Palestine, green land of ours;
Its flowers as if embroidered on women's gowns;
March adorns its hills
With the jewel-like peony and narcissus;
April bursts open in its plains
With flowers and bride-like blossoms;
May is our rustic song
Which we sing at noon,
In the blue shadows,
Among the olive trees of our valley
And in the ripeness of the fields
We wait for the promise of July
And the joyous dance amidst the harvest.
O land of ours where our childhood passed
Like dreams in the shade of the orange-grove,
Among the almond-trees in the valleys -
Remember us now wandering
Among the thorns of the desert,
Wandering in rocky mountains;
Remember us now
In the tumult of cities beyond deserts and seas;
Remember us
With our eyes full of dust
That never clears in our ceaseless wandering.
They crushed the flowers on the hills around us,
Destroyed the houses over our heads,
Scattered our torn remains,
Then unfolded the desert before us,
With valleys writhing in hunger
And blue shadows shattered into red thorns
Bent over corpses left as prey for falcon and crow.
Is it from your hills that the angels sang to the shepherds
Of peace on earth and goodwill among men?
Only death laughed when it saw
Among the entrails of beasts
The ribs of men,
And through the guffaw of bullets
It went dancing a joyous dance
On the heads of weeping women.
Our land is an emerald,
But in the deserts of exile,
Spring after spring,
Only the dust hisses in our face.
What then, what are we doing with our love?
When our eyes and our mouth are full of frost and dust?"

Somos a nossa própria obra de arte, e o resto não importa. Conheces a história do beduíno que uma vez quis fazer uma estátua? Ele queria fazer uma estátua em honra de uma mulher falecida que ele amava, mas não tinha materiais para trabalhar. O que tinha era uma grande quantidade de tâmaras. Por isso fez a estátua com tâmaras. Na manhã seguinte, estava com tanta fome que comeu a estátua. E fez bem.

helloo~ I'm happy you liked the book we're reading this time. I assume you want books about the same period of time (aka modern/ contemporary) by middle eastern or north african authors, so I'm going to suggest some in that area:
In Search Of Walid Massoud by Jabra Ibrahim Jabra. I just finished reading this book, it's about a palestinian man who lived through the nakba and afterwards, aka from the 20's to the 70's. I liked it so so much, stylistic writing, compelling characters, with an intrigue in the plot.
Honor by Elif Shafak. it's been a while since I've read it by I remember it was good, an immersive tale in 70's Turkey
The Bridges Of Constantine by Ahlem Mosteghanemi. again it has been ages since I've read this but Ahlem is like a a necessary read for any contemporary literature enthusiast. it's about Algeria in the 90's
The Locust and The Bird by Hanan Al-Shaykh. the life of a woman who chose to live life to the fullest in the 60's Beirut
Miramar by Naguib Mahfouz. 60's Alexandria in a post -revolutionary Egypt
tbh I had greater recommendations but unfortunately the problem of translation (absence thereof) is a big obstacle :/ most books are not translated to english

2 men sentenced to 2 months imprisonment for illicit drug peddling
A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Kabusa, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced one Mustapha Adamu and Mohammed Musa to two months imprisonment each for illicit drug peddling. The Judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convicts of new Kuchingoro, Abuja, after they pleaded guilty to the offence. Sadiq, however, gave the convicts an option of N15,000 fine each. Three other men, Philip Ibrahim, Jabra Ahmed and Kabiru Ali, were also arraigned alongside the convicts. The three men, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail in the sum of N20,000 each, with one surety each. The Prosecutor, Mrs C.C. Okafor had earlier told the court that both the convicts and the defendants were arrested by the police in a suspected criminal hideout in Kuchingoro on Feb. 13. She said they were arrested for selling illicit drugs in the area The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 183 of the Penal Code. Read the full article

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ.
bismil laahir rahmaanir raheem.
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
يَا اَعَزَّ مَذْكُوْرٍ،
yaa a-a’zza mazkoorin,
O the most respected among all the honored ones;
وَ اَقْدَمَهٗ قِدَمًا فِيْ الْعِزِّ وَ الْجَبَرُوْتِ،
wa aqdamahu qedaman fil i’zze wal jabaroote,
O the greatest in power and force.
يَا رَحِيْمَ كُلِّ مُسْتَرْحِمٍ،
yaa raheema kulle mustarhemin,
O merciful on all those, who seek mercy.
وَ مَفْزَعَ كُلِّ مَلْهُوْفٍ اِلَيْهِ،
wa mafza-a’ kulle malhoofin elayhe,
O refuge of every seeker of refuge.
يَا رَاحِمَ كُلِّ حَزِيْنٍ يَشْكُوْ بَثَّهٗ وَ حُزْنَهٗ اِلَيْهِ،
yaa raahema kulle hazeenin yashkoo bassahu wa huznahu elayhe,
O one, who has pity on every distressed, who complains of his grief.
يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ سُئِلَ الْمَعْرُوْفُ مِنْهُ، وَ اَسْرَعَهٗ اِعْطَاءً،
yaa khayra man so-elal ma’roofo minho, wa as-ra-a’hu e-a’taa-an,
O the best among those, who are petitioned for favors and O, One, who bestows very soon.
يَا مَنْ يَخَافُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ الْمُتَوَقِّدَةُ بِالنُّوْرِ مِنْهُ.
yaa man yakhaaful malaa-ekatul motawaqqedato bin-noore minho.
O one, from whom even the angels are fearful, whose being is luminous with effulgent.
اَسْاَلُكَ بِالْاَسْمَاءِالَّتِيْ يَدْعُوْكَ بِهَا حَمَلَةُ عَرْشِكَ، وَ مَنْ حَوْلَ عَرْشِكَ بِنُوْرِكَ يُسَبِّحُوْنَ شَفَقَةً مِنْ خَوْفِ عِقَابِكَ.
as-aloka bil-asmaa-il latee yad-o’oka behaa hamalato a’rsheka, wa man hawla a’rsheka benooreka yosabbehoona shafaqatan min khawfe e’qaabeka.
I ask You through those names, through whom the bearers of the Arsh invoke and those ask, who live around your Arsh and continuously recite divine praise due to your fear.
وَ بِالْاَسْمَاءِ الَّتِيْ يَدْعُوْكَ بِهَا جَبْرَئِيْلُ، وَ مِيكَائِيْلُ، وَ اِسْرَافِيْلُ اِلَّا اَجَبْتَنِيْ، وَ كَشَفْتَ يَا اِلٰهِيْ كُرْبَتِيْ، وَ سَتَرْتَ ذُنُوْبِيْ (وَ غَفَرْتَهَا).
wa bil-asmaa-il latee yad-o’oka behaa jabra-eelo, wa meekaa-eelo, wa israafeelo illaa ajabtanee, wa kashafta yaa elaahee kurbatee, wa satarta zonoobee (wa ghafartahaa).
And through those names through which Jibraeel, Mikaeel and Israfeel supplicate, that You accept my entreaty and remove my grief and sorrow and conceal my sins.
يَا مَنْ اَمَرَ بِالصَّيْحَةِ فِيْ خَلْقِهٖ، فَاِذَا هُمْ بِالسَّاهِرَةِ يَحْشُرُوْنَ
yaa man amara bis-sayhate fee khalqehi, fa-ezaa hum bis-saaherate yahshoroona
O that God, through whose commands the bugle would be blown among the creatures and all the creatures would be gathered in a field.
وَ بِذٰلِكَ الْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ اَحْيَيْتَ بِهِ الْعِظَامَ وَ هِيَ رَمِيْمٌ، اَحْيِ قَلْبِيْ، وَ اشْرَحْ صَدْرِيْ، وَ اَصْلِحْ شَاْنِيْ،
wa be-zaalekal ismil lazee ahyayta behil e’zaama wa heya rameemun,ahye qalbee, wash rah sadree, wa asleh shaanee,
And by that name through which You revived the decayed bones, enliven my heart as well and expand by breast and reform my conditions.
يَا مَنْ خَصَّ نَفْسَهٗ بِالْبَقَاءِ، وَ خَلَقَ لِبَرِيَّتِهِ الْمَوْتَ وَ الْحَيَاةَ وَ الْفَنَاءَ، يَا مَنْ فِعْلُهٗ قَوْلٌ، وَ قَوْلُهٗ اَمْرٌ، وَ اَمْرُهٗ مَاضٍ عَلٰى مَا يَشَاءُ،
yaa man khassa nafsahu bil-baqaa-e, wa khalaqa le-bariyyatehil mawta wal hayaata wal fanaa-a, yaa man fe’lohu qawlun, wa qawlohu amrun, wa amrohu maazin a’laa maa yashaa-o
O one, who specialized Himself for eternity and created death, life and annihilation for the creatures. O that God, whose act is word and whose command is effective on everything.
اَسْاَلُكَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ دَعَاكَ بِهٖ (اِبْرَاهِيْمُ) خَلِيْلُكَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ حِيْنَ اُلْقِيَ فِيْ النَّارِ فَاسْتَجَبْتَ لَهٗ وَ قُلْتَ: ’’يَا نَارُ كُوْنِيْ بَرْدًا وَ سَلَامًا عَلٰى‏ اِبْراهِيْمَ‘‘
as-aloka bil-islmil lazee da-a’aka behi (ibraaheemo) khaleekoka a’layhis salaamo heena ulqeya fin naare fas-tajabta lahu wa qulta: “yaa naaro koonee bardan wa salaaman a’laa ibraaheema”
I beg through that name, through which your friend [Ibrahim] called You when he was cast into the fire and You accepted his plea and said: O fire, be cool and safe for Ibrahim.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ دَعَاكَ بِهٖ مُوْسٰى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ مِنْ جَانِبِ الطُّوْرِ الْاَيْمَنِ، فَاسْتَجَبْتَ لَهٗ،
, wa bil-islmil lazee da-a’aka behi moosaa a’layhis salaamo min jaanebit tooril aymane, fas-tajabta lahu,
And that name through which Musa called You from the right side of Mt. Tur and You accepted it from him.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهٖ عِيْسٰى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ مِنْ رُوْحِ الْقُدُسِ،
wa bil-ismil lazee khalaqta behi e’esaa a’layhis salaamo min roohil qodose,
And the name through which You created Isa from the Holy Spirit.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ تُبْتَ بِهٖ عَلٰی دَاوٗدَ.
wa bil-ismil lazee tubta behi a’laa da-ooda.
And that name through which You accepted the repentance of Dawood.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ وَهَبْتَ بِهٖ لِزَكَرِيَّا يَحْيٰى عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ،
wa bil-ismil lazee wahabta behi lezakariyyaa yahyaa a’layhemas salaamo,
And by that name through which You gifted to Zakariya a son like Yahya.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ كَشَفْتَ بِهٖ عَنْ اَيُّوْبَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
wa bil-ismil lazee kashafta behi a’n ayyooba a’layhis salaamuz zurra,wa tubta behi a’laa daa-ooda a’layhis salaamo,
And through which You removed the grief of Ayyub. And through which You accepted the repentance of Dawood.
الضُّرَّ، وَ تُبْتَ بِهٖ عَلٰى دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، وَ سَخَّرْتَ بِهٖ لِسُلَيْمَانَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ الرِّيْحَ تَجْرِيْ بِاَمْرِهٖ وَ الشَّيَاطِيْنَ وَ عَلَّمْتَهٗ مَنْطِقَ الطَّيْرِ.
wa sakhkharta behi le-solaymaana a’layhis salaamur reeha tajree be-amrehi wash shayaateena wa a’llamtahu manteqat tayre.
And through which You gave control of wind to Sulaiman and it blew under his command and also gave him control over the satans and taught him the language of the birds.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهِ الْعَرْشَ، وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهِ الْكُرْسِيَّ.
wa bil-ismil lazee khalaqta behil a’rsha, wa bil-ismil lazee khalaqta behil kursiyya.
And by the name through which You created the Arsh, and by the name through which You created the Throne.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهِ الرُّوْحَانِيِّيْنَ، وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهِ الْجِنَّ وَ الْاِنْسَ، وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهٖ جَمِيْعَ الْخَلْقِ.
wa bil-ismil lazee khalaqta behir roohaaniyyeena, wa bil-ismil lazee khalaqta behil jinna wal insa, wa bil-ismil lazee khalaqta behi jamee-a’l khalqe.
And by that name through which You created the Ruhaniyyin[1] and by that name through which You created the Jinns and humans and by that name through which You created the universe.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهٖ جَمِيْعَ مَا اَرَدْتَ مِنْ شَيْ‏ءٍ.
wa bil-islmil lazee khalaqta behi jamee-a’ maa aradta min shayin.
And by that name through which You created whatever You liked.
وَ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ قَدَرْتَ بِهٖ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ، اَسْاَلُكَ بِهٰذِهِ الْاَسْمَاءِ اِلَّا مَا اَعْطَيْتَنِيْ سُؤْلِيْ، وَ قَضَيْتَ حَوَائِجِيْ يَا كَرِيْمُ.‏
wa bil-ismil lazee qadarta behi a’laa kulle shay-in, as-aloka behaazehil asmaa-e illaa maa a-a’taytanee soa-lee, wa qazayta hawaa-ejee yaa kareemo.
And by that name through which You exercised control on everything. I ask You through these that You bestow my demands and fulfill my needs, O noble Lord!
🍃 Sahifa Fatima (sa) No 15
يَا رَبَّ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَ الْآخِرِيْنَ، وَ يَا خَيْرَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَ الْآخِرِيْنَ، يَا ذَا الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِيْنَ، وَ يَا رَاحِمَ الْمَسَاكِيْنِ، وَ يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.‏
yaa rabbal awwaleena wal aakhereena, wa yaa khayral awwaleena wal aakhereena, yaa zal quwwatil mateena, wa yaa raahemal masaakeene, wa yaa arhamar raahemeena.
O first among the first; O the last among the last; O owner of tremendous power; O the merciful upon the destitute; O the most merciful of the merciful ones.
🍃 Sahifa Fatima (sa) No 16
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ لَا يَنْسٰي مَنْ ذَكَرَہٗ، وَ لَا یَخِیْبُ مَنْ دَعَاہُ وَ لَا یَقْطَعُ رَجَاءَ مَنْ رَجَاہُ.
al-hamdo lillaahil lazee laa yansaa man zakarahu, wa laa yakheebo man da-a’a-ho wa laa yaqta-o’ rajaa-a man rajaa-ho
Praise be to Allah, who does not forget those, who remember Him and does not disappoint, whose who call Him; and does not cut off the hope of those who hope in Him.
🍃 Sahifa Fatima (sa) No 20
It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (S) that he taught Ali as) and Fatima (sa) and said:
“Pray two units of Prayer and in each unit recite Surah Fatiha and Ayatal Kursi three times and Surah Tauheed three times, and last verses of Surah Hashr three times from the words:
“Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain…till the end.”
“When he sits, he recites the Tasha-hud and glorifies Allah and invokes blessings on the Prophet and pray for the believing men and women; then supplicates for its effect:
Then he says:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْ اَسْاَلُكَ بِحَقِّ كُلِّ اِسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ، يَحِقُّ عَلَيْكَ فِيْهِ اِجَابَةُ الدُّعَاءِ اِذَا دُعِيْتَ بِهٖ، وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِحَقِّ كُلِّ ذِيْ حَقٍّ عَلَيْكَ.
allaahumma innee as-aloka be-haqqe kulle ismin howa laka, yahiqqo a’layka feehe ejaabatut do-a’a-e ezaa do-e’eta behi, wa as-aloka be-haqqe kulle zee haqqin a’layka.
“O Allah, indeed I ask You by the right of all the names that are yours; and which have right upon You to accept supplication, when You are called through it. And I ask You by the right of all who have right upon You.
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِحَقِّكَ عَلٰى جَمِيْعِ مَا هُوَ دُوْنَكَ اَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِيْ كَذَا وَ كَذَا.
wa as-aloka be-haqqeka a’laa jamee-e’ maa howa doonaka an taf-a’la bee kazaa wa kazaa.
And I ask You by your right upon all those other than You that You do for me so and so.”

The Tantur, Rachel Tomb and Jacir Palace
Kathisma Well has been closed in the '70s because of the Establishment of Gilo and other Settlements in the Area, the Well of Kathisma has been there for a while, and according to another reference it is also mentioned that it was on the way between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Front of Har Homa there is Valley that is very fertile, everything was grown there even in antiquity - Wadi Al Shami, People would go there and plant Apricots and Apples and other fruits and vegetables, and even different kinds of apricots, and was one of the Best Apricots in the Area, even Figs that have been collected on Two Seasons, Later on, after 1948, it became part of Israeli Controlled Areas. The Tantur The Tantur Ecumenical Institue, the First Talk after 1054 that happened the Excommunication till 1964, it was the first place where have been first Christian dialogue between the East and West Churches, it became as the visit of Pope Paul Paul VI, and they met in the Mount of Olives and we met him he told him it has been 500 years since we first talked, and there hasn't been any communication Between Catholics and Orthodox. Tantur meaning let us start with abshalom tomb, Tantur mean it is the high ground on the High hill you can see all the area from there, so it was a pretty strategic location, and since then every new people meet there. Tantur is part of the Notre-Dame Unversity and they bought it from Malta as we know, Today if we visit the Tantur they have lots of Activities and Educational Programs and lectures to learn the history of the land and theology and field trips for weeks and even communication between different Christian denominations and other religions also such as Muslims and jews, there goal and Mission encourage social rights and exploring human rights and also Guest House and also Hostel of Maltese. Before the Tantur it was belonging to Austro-Hungarian and Emperor at that time Francis Joseph and while also you see Marble column have a name on it of Emperor Francis and he also opened Street number 6, and the one who have been supervised the purchasing of the land is Count Bernard Caboga. Also Tower of Jacob also the Tantur was named, and also Ephrata they believed this was the Area also. The First time the place was opened as Hospice in the Order of Malta , and later on, they opened a Clinic, it was very common for the knight of Malta they are military government and their mission is medical military so it was very common for them to open such thing, and this tradition remained the same from the 12th Century and they have more than tens of thousands of medical staff all over the world. at one Time the Salesians they used this place and later on it has been used as Internment Camp and later there have been lots of conflict in that Area and later on in 1957 the Order of Malta needed the place for its own work and later on in 1964 The Pople Paul IV visited the holy land and was interested in dialogue and it have been delayed the opening because the conflict that was going on there at that time. The Old way from Bethlehem the British first people to open the roads we see today in the 1920's , when people want to go to Jerusalem to Bethlehem they went through route there pass by the Tantur, and Also local Arabs called it Tantur Firaoun, it looks like Pharaoh's Hat and it looks like that and that is why they called it Pharaoh's Hat. in Summary, the Ecunmical council and also the place is great to view and strategic location and also Pope Paul 6th who visited this place and made first communication and also it started melting the tension in 1964, and they greeted each other there, and because of that the Tantur was open for Ecumenical Dialogue, and they are well known and part of Notre Dam Unversity and before that it was Emperor Joseph who bought the land and also was named at one time Tower of Jacob and it started as hospice then as medical Clinic. Rachel Tomb When you think about Rachel you think about motherhood many people especially jews they think about Rachel and pray for Rachel for easy pregnancy, from the 4th Century we know about Rachel Tomb from Eusebius and Bordeaux pilgrim and mention the tomb as being located 4 miles from Jerusalem, Later on there have been Tomb approximately 6 KM from Jerusalem and in the 7th Century, it has become Stone Pyramid.
