it’s been a great mystery to everyone for more than 15 years. how does it keep reappearing? who is this mysterious godzilla case manufacturer?

turns out oikawa accidentally ordered a 100 stickers instead of just the 1 for iwa-chan’s 14th bday using his sisters card. under the threat of death and in exchange to never tell their mother, she made him promise “to use all of them even if it takes a lifetime”.

and so, true to his word, whenever iwa gets a new case, there’s a new sticker in his bag, on his desk, slipped under his door. even when they’re oceans apart, he’ll find an envelope in his mailbox with a “missed me?” note attached to a singular sticker.

and without fail, iwa chooses to have a reminder of oikawa with him all the time, every time. forever.

Oikawa's favorite hug is the first one they give each other when they meet again after some time without seeing each other. He loves that hug because they run to give it, always meeting in the middle of the road with Oikawa being the one who throws himself on Iwaizumi because he knows he will always hold him, no matter the force with which they collide.

And Iwaizumi always wraps his strong arms around Oikawa and pulls him tighter against his as if he wants to lock him in his heart. Hajime lifts him up from the ground and makes Tooru laugh when they spin around in the middle of the airport. And he says close to his ear finally you're with me again and I missed you so fucking much.

Oikawa's favorite hug is the first one they give each other because it feels like the beginning of the way back home.

currently thinking about oikawa in vaguellyyyyy the place of jokić (NBA player who just won the finals). i promise i’m going somewhere with this just stick with me for a sec.

oikawa, who everyone knows lives and breathes volleyball, who cares about nothing more than volleyball. who moved to argentina and left his home country and citizenship to play more volleyball and be able to stand on the court longer. to be stronger on his own.

and then there’s a month that he disappears and takes his excused absences from a few games. it’s known that he goes back to japan, but no one has details. there are plenty of theories, but he confirms none of them.

when he comes back, there’s something just a little different about him. he’s just as determined and passionate and ambitious and just as willing to do anything to climb to the top as he was before, yes. but there’s a different glow to him. a different tired but happy. a different satisfied.

san juan wins the league championship that year. he’s clearly excited about it, vibrating with pride and happiness and celebration. he also goes to the post-game conference and says things no one ever thought they would hear from THE tooru oikawa.

“how does it feel to break the record for service aces in one game and be called one of the best setters in the league?” “is that really the record? that’s it? hm.”

“are you excited for the celebrations back in san juan?” “when are those?” “next week.” “oh. i kind of just wanted to go home to japan. damn.”

it causes a burst of speculation on social media again. the greatest setter in the league treating his biggest accomplishment to date as just another day at work? had he lost his love for it?

it’s only two weeks later, when oikawa gets back to japan that people understand. he hasn’t lost his love at all, and he’s just as ready to take down everything in his path to be able to stand on the court longer. to keep winning. the volleyball nations league. the world cup. the olympics. he still wants to beat japan and everyone who has ever stood in his way.

(it’s just that he also now has something as bright as a medal to come home to.

he posts a picture of himself, iwaizumi, and a beautiful baby girl all grinning at the camera. the baby has his medal around her neck and oikawa is holding her tenderly as iwaizumi takes the picture.

this win is for my family, the caption reads, because coming home to these two is the best reward i’ve ever won.)

no matter what people say, his confidence and cockiness are well deserved, considering this guy works his ass off to have this level of skill. iwaizumi totally found this dumbass passed out in the gym several times.

despite all of this, i think this guy is way too hard on himself, always telling himself that his current level of skills is not enough/could be better. i also believe that even though he doesn't care about people's perception of him, he has his bad days when one snide comment from his teammates can lead to a mental breakdown.

he's definitely the "get in the car, loser, we're going shopping!" type of guy, and you become his victim for a shopping spree, be ready to spend the entire day in the mall.

he probably has a very specific hobby he picked up on a dare and never stopped doing it. like soap-making or something.

honestly, call me crazy but i think oikawa is an introvert who is all bubbly and talkative around his team/rivals, but barely uses his voice while alone. i can easily see Iwaizumi going about his day, studying, cooking, doing laundry, and oikawa just sitting there next to him, cocooned in a fluffy blanket, recharging.

or the moments after an intense game, that was emotionally taxing, when the moment the door closes behind his back, oikawa crashes to the floor, laying there either until someone (iwaizumi) finds him or he regains enough energy to get up.

he's probably shit at cooking but is still somehow good at baking, saying that it's all about following the instructions.

no matter how loud he is, oikawa likes to take care of people silently. the "i don't know how this water bottle got here but you can drink it", "i absolutely accidentally bought two sandwiches instead of one, and i guess you can have it" or "a coffee shop messed up my order, so i happened to have two coffees and one of them is your favorite somehow" type of way.

Iwaizumi likes to study in libraries because he can isolate himself more easily and pour all his admirable concentration into his notes and textbooks. Oikawa, on the other hand, doesn’t like it. While Hajime is the type of person who studies in silence, Tooru needs to move around and even speak loudly to memorise information. Their dynamics are completely opposite yet attracted; they adapt to each other's disparate ways and make it work, as in every aspect of their shared lives.

Oikawa has mastered the art of surviving in libraries. Instead of speaking loudly, he articulates with his lips silently and even gesticulates, ignoring the curious stares of the students. Moreover, Iwaizumi bought him a fidget cube to keep his restless fingers amused, and when it’s his leg that begins to jerk restlessly, Hajime makes a point of putting a hand on his thigh every time the librarian passes by to avoid being scolded again.

(If he then doesn't remove his hand and absently strokes Tooru's thigh with his thumb, amused at how nervous that makes Oikawa, well, no one says anything).

Iwaizumi has mastered the art of surviving in their rooms during their study sessions. Instead of resorting to his old tactic of kicking Tooru's side when he used to pester him during homework as kids, he simply lets Oikawa lean on his back (or his legs or vaguely stroke his arm with his long fingers or fiddle with the hair on the back of his neck or curl up next to him or entwine their legs or start rolling around on the floor) while he memorises aloud. In addition, when Hajime’s faced with a complicated subject and really needs to concentrate fully, he puts on his headphones and listens to the playlist Tooru created for him with his favourite ambient sounds that help him focus.

(If he noticed that Tooru's voice reciting in the background soothes him like more than the playlist, well, he's not saying anything either).

Iwaizumi Hajime (27) Herpetologist

While Iwaizumi is at college he takes a bunch of weird biology classes. He's in the middle of a project for a Herpetology class when Oikawa decides to pay him a visit. (Herpetology is the study of reptiles and amphibians btw <3). Oikawa shows up and just jumps into obnoxious visitor mode ("Iwa, show me around campus!" "Iwa, what do you even do for fun here?") and Iwaizumi gets to plotting. He loads Oikawa into his car and they drive out to a nature reserve. Oikawa starts complaining about hiking and Iwazumi stops and opens the trunk.

Iwa: We aren't going hiking

Oikawa: Oh, thank god

Iwa: you're going to help me tag and release the toads in this pond.

Oikawa: ...

Iwa, pulling two pairs of bibbed overalls from the car: >:)

Oikawa then left and did not return till the class was over. Iwaizumi still has pictures of Oikawa gagging at the toads and uses them for blackmail.

so i think that iwaizumi cares WAY too much about the world cup and oikawa does not care in the LEAST.

still, though, he watches every game with iwaizumi because he loves how excited iwaizumi gets about it all. he makes up opinions on the games just to get iwaizumi fired up ("it was offsides, that was a bullshit goal" "you don't even know what that means" "it was! i saw it!" "it was NOT!! that was a GOAL! FUCK you" "jeez iwa no need to get so aggressive" "...sorry"), but he also asks genuine questions just to see iwaizumi's eyes light up with passion and excitement ("wait so what does that mean" "well if japan wins then spain has four points so germany is out, but if japan draws then--") and he loves listening to iwaizumi talk.

international sports tournaments are some of the few things that can really get iwaizumi truly hyped up like this, and oikawa loves to watch it happen. so he'll stay up late or wake up early to cuddle with iwaizumi while they watch, until iwaizumi inevitably gets too passionate and has to stand up and pace and wave his arms around ("it is five am iwa. calm down." "i can't just CALM DOWN. we're about to--no--get back--be more aggressive than that--oh bullshit that wasn't a foul this fucking ref--"). meanwhile, oikawa will watch it with sleepy eyes and fall just a little more in love with him.
