Helix lore 2.0

alternate title: I’ve realized what was making me unhappy about Helix’s lore and decided to make it better

since this is Helix’s lore specifically, I’ll make a separate post about Betelgeuse’s origins at a later point, though since the two of them are a 2-for-1 deal in the “present day” Bej will inevitably play a role down the line.

for now, though, a not-very-concise retelling of how Helix became a Decepticon (if I can parse the timeline correctly, that is):

Helix of Tetrahex began life not long after the end of the Great War, when the Decepticons had been freshly exiled and remaining pockets of resistance were being flushed out.

The majority of their earliest memories are of boot camp, and of being the one most often judged by their platoon-mates and drill sergeant for being a flier, given that the majority of the flight-frames had sided with the Decepticons. Their inherent timidness and aversion to combat did little in the way of persuading everyone around them that they weren't an enemy spy - no records of their construction existed, and they had no history prior to boot camp boot camp; they seemed to have just showed up one day, under mandate from the High Council. Optimistic that hard work and obedience would cause them to be regarded as "a real Autobot", they memorized the entire Autobot Code and did everything in their power to follow it to the letter, though instead it led to disagreements and the occasional demerit when it turned out Helix knew the code better than their superiors. Still, they formulated a large portion of their moral compass around the rules and regulations enumerated in the Code - meaning they often called out or spoke up regarding anyone around them who acted against it, which won them more enemies than friends.

Though Helix's high scores on several aptitude tests made them capable for seemingly any line of work, they were given a highly-monitored desk job crunching numbers for the Science Guild (though, admittedly, they had hoped to work for the Science Guild in a greater capacity, and believed if they did a good enough job they might be promoted). They didn't know what any of what they managed was for - they didn't have a high enough level of authorized access - but after long enough they began to recognize patterns in the data. Though they were too nervous to dig deeper or ask around (past instances of snooping didn't end in their favor) something seemed off about the entire operation thereafter. Even so, they didn't complain; it wouldn't have been very Autobot of them, and they didn't want to seem ungrateful.

After awhile, they began to gel with the other 'bots of their station - who all were more interested in how they did their job so well than their frame type - and were invited to a few meet-ups at Maccadam's Old Oil House in the evenings after their shift. The first few outings were a bit much for them, but over time they got more out of their shell and made a few friends as a result, many of whom were impressed (if a little annoyed) at Helix's ability to pick up skills so quickly. They hadn't payed much mind to their ability before, claiming it was "just how their processor works", but over time their coworkers began asking for favors. It got a bit taxing after awhile, especially since after too long they were doing a portion of nearly everyone's work and they had less and less free time as a result, but the praise they received was too much for them to pass up, even as their friends urged them to start standing up for themselves.

After a particularly long shift, Helix elected to take the long way back to their living quarters - though flying there would have taken only a third as long, they didn't want to risk slipping into recharge midair. They didn't make it there, however, before being cornered by 'bots they recognized from boot camp - bots that, for one misdemeanor or another, had been discharged because of Helix's tattling. It escalated to the point that all of them ended up being brought in to an Autotrooper station. Even though Helix was let off easily, having proven their innocence after accusations of being a Decepticon sympathizer, the whole situation immensely frayed their nerves... and showed up on their record.

Fewer of their coworkers asked for favors, after that. They weren't invited to as many outings, and rumors began to spread that the entire thing had been staged for one purpose or another. While their friends largely remained steadfast, they began feeling more anxious and unsafe around others, and started calling in sick when it became too overwhelming.

Eventually, something bad was bound to happen.

Anxiety became paranoia; paranoia became agoraphobia; agoraphobia became a volatile combination of fear and flight-frame antsiness that led to a decline in Helix's ability to perform their work remotely or keep up with their friends. Everything came to a tipping point, however, when an agent dispatched by the High Council came looking for them, tasked with some sort of "retrieval" that even in conversation they scarcely explained - which increased Helix's distrust, led to several frightened accusations, and ended with Helix covered in energon spatter as the agent bled out on the floor from arterial damage.

For a long moment, Helix just... stood there, barely comprehending what just happened, what they just did. Their exact next action was to rent a jumpship and hightail it to the nearest spaceport. They got a few odd looks, but no one asked questions, and Helix only interacted with them for as long as it took to transfer the rental codes. Helix's self-loathing and paranoia caught up with them in Cybertron's exosphere - realizing the Autobot Code was something they'd completely disobeyed and had no chance of following again, despite having overwritten a good portion of their moral code with its constraints, they spiraled very quickly into a panic attack. Out of the fear of being sent to the Stockades, they hijacked a spacebridge to send them to the furthest they could get from Cybertron. Their jumpship, however, wasn't rated for spacebridge travel, and the damage it sustained caused it to lock Helix in stasis.

They were, eventually, recovered by a Decepticon scouting ship and were brought in for "interrogation", to be performed by @thewiglesswonder's (aka Wig's) Maelstrom via mnemosurgery. Through this, she learned not only of Helix's superlearning ability, but also discovered a portion of hidden memories - ones which might explain where Helix had come from and why they were an Outlier, were they not so heavily encrypted. Though Helix seemed little more than a shaky gyrodyne with a thousand-parsec stare, they held an interest (not hope, not necessarily) in what those memories might hold, and agreed to repeated operations for Maelstrom to decrypt their memories.

It didn't take Maelstrom long to decrypt enough memories that she could deduce their origin: Helix was one of several test subjects created in Project Point-Zero-One, in which members of the Autobot Science Guild were commissioned by the High Council to artificially create Outlier sparks. The results of these experiments - as viewed in Helix's distant memories - were as of yet unrefined, generating random Outlier abilities for each spark with no method of prediction, though combat-adjacent abilities were favored and the Outliers who had them were more rigorously tested. Helix's superlearning could have been of use in a combat situation, allowing them to quickly adapt to a variety of scenarios, but even back then they were easily frightened and often chose to hide or surrender during simulations. Because of this, Helix's ability was never fully recognized and they were deemed a failed experiment, though the Council still sought to make use of them however they could. An Autobot mnemosurgeon was responsible for their memories' encryption, then, so they could integrate into the Cybertronian populace without leaking the existence of the Project.

This revelation finally allowed Helix to make sense of the incident which brought them here - the agent whom they'd accidentally murdered spoke vaguely of a retrieval, but Helix's memories put everything into perspective. The agent was assigned to retrieve Helix themselves, their skill of handling a highly-skilled and overtaxing workload having gotten the attention of the Science Guild, who reported to the High Council that perhaps their failed experiment wasn't as much of a failure as they'd thought. Upon connecting the dots, Helix was henceforth galvanized against the Autobots, and through Maelstrom's suggestion decided that the best way to stand against them was to join the Decepticons.

They piqued the interest of Decepticon command by virtue of being an Outlier, and received their Deceptibrand shortly after their arrival on New Kaon. Having anxiety issues and no integrated weapons, however, meant Helix wasn't a fighter in the slightest, so they were assigned to Betelgeuse as xyr Ward, working different jobs within the Decepticons' ranks and slowly carving out a routine. Over time, Helix was able to open up more around Betelgeuse despite xyr brusque and often strict demeanor, but xe also possessed a straightforward quality that helped them stay on schedule and know how best to behave around the other, more intimidating Decepticons. Betelgeuse benefitted from Helix, too; Helix learned Binary quickly and can translate for xem when needed, and having Helix transport xem in their cockpit-backpack meant less dodging around Decepticon pedes. As a result of their Mentor-Ward relationship, Helix became less easily frightened, and Betelgeuse less easily stirred to anger.

Maelstrom still keeps tabs on Helix & checks in on what they're up to every now & then (which is Wig's idea directly). they know about it overall and are okay with it

not completely sure when Helix's whole deal takes place but it's definitely in the aftermath of the Great War. Helix is slightly older than Optimus, I think

they're easily intimidated but they can get used to anyone's presence after long enough. no guarantees they'd make friends but they wouldn't be nearly as anxious around people they see all the time

can be bribed with candies, they have a massive fuckin sweet tooth

also Helix post-Deceptibrand is purple like in their ref, but as an Autobot they were mostly blue. the Constructicons changed colors so why can't Helix

WAH ok. Rosin and Jasper have been friends a little longer then the trio's been around maybe a couple of years? Rosin is the shyest and keeps to himself the most out of the group having most of his friends outside of those 2 be shared friends with them (i.e mike) hes also probably the most protective of friends & family.

Jaspers the most sociable so hes also the heart of the group in my heart hes probably the one that gets underestimated the most (probably bc i gave him an op power that i think he has great mastery of but shhh) if lets say theoretically he was to be pit against one of the other two in an "I know your in there" style fight where the others arent quiet in control that may theoretically happen in the Lore He would try not to do serious damage but he would also kick the shit out of them <3

AJ character wise came later then the other two if i had to guess i added him to the Lore about. 3 years? at the earliest compared to the other two and that probably reflects a little bit but hes my guy of all time anyways hes a bitch a jackass my belovdd hes quick hes the snark :tm: he is the one most likely to look at a phone notification and say fuck this shit until a bigger call to action

m thinkin abt the “blunt vs flowery” language thing and…… in the year of our lord 2023, i don't even want to imagine how far back we'd have to go in genshins timeline until we see ‘hey shawty' written on a cave wall-

A Guide to Sleep Token

This will be a post for new fans looking to learn some basic/surface level information about the band Sleep Token.

*Cracks typing knuckles*

So basically, Sleep Token is an “atl-prog-blackened shoegaze”(what it sounds like to me) band from Britain. People mostly associate them with heavy metal (myself included) But in reality, no one really knows what genre they are and I think the band likes it that way.

The Bands Symbol

Lore / Terms to Know

Their lore goes that the lead singer had a dream where he encountered an elder God called "Sleep" (its actual name is impossible for the human tongue to speak) thus, he created the band to make music in worship to the God.

They call their songs "offerings", presumably to Sleep.

Concerts are called "rituals".

When you buy merchandise, you are "consuming" it.

The term "worship" is used by the band and fans as a form of acknowledgement.

The band has a total of 7 members and are known as "vessels". All are anonymous, using masks, body paint, and robes to hide themselves. It is said they do this because their music is more important than their identities.

Band Members

4 of them are at the front and are identified with Roman numerals:

I / Vessel

(I) Also known as Vessel (V or Vess) is the lead singer/vocalist of the band and wears a sculpted mask with an exposed mouth. His mask changes based on the album. His vocal range is like no other, at one point singing like an angel before immediately shifting gear into a black metal scream.

(II) is the drummer. A fantastic one at that. His solos are godly, very reminiscent of jazz or gospel. (I believe he started the band alongside Vessel) Check out “An Offering from II” on YouTube to see him go crazy.

Recently he did an interview with Drumeo on YouTube where he talks about his influences and does drum playthroughs of a few songs that demonstrate his drumming prowess.

III

(III) is the bassist, or the "bassy boy" as many fans call him. He is quite the character on stage. His energy is unmatched. You'll often find him prancing on the right side of the stage or laying on his back trying to get Vessel's attention (and Vessel does)

(IV) is the guitarist, often has a covert/cool energy to him but he can be just as captivating as III. Over time he's developed a bit of a flirtatious side toward the crowd. Fuckboy energy(affectionate). He also provides sub vocals, raw screaming certain parts when Vessel is busy singing his heart out lol.

Vesselettes

Then there are the 3 last members, the choir or vessellettes. They are the three cloaked figures in the back who provide sub-vocals/harmonies. They may not be too audible on certain recorded tracks, but live they sound absolutely heavenly, making songs go from amazing to spectacular!

Music

Song structure-wise, the best way I can call it is measured emotional chaos. Fans are still trying to decipher their meanings here and on Reddit.

But what seems to be the theme is toxic relationships, unhealthy coping, romantic trauma, bitter sweat endings, and eventual closure. It's really gripping stuff I'll tell ya. You gotta hear it for yourself to really understand.

There is ALOT more but that's about a general rundown.

They have 2 EPs called "One" and "Two". These are the band's earliest work but they are still fantastic.

They've only got 3 albums out as of writing this. "Sundowning", "This Place Will Become Your Tomb", and "Take Me Back to Eden"(the one released this year)

hey howdy hey! first off, i wanna say that ive been following dialtown since it was a wee baby demo and i have loved to see every inch of progress it has made. i love this game to bits. i can't accurately express how much of a comfort game it is to me, or compliment the writing enough, but rest assured that i believe it's a fockin masterpiece (even if that means i am damned to hell. i welcome u, phone-satan)

that being said! woe be upon ye, i have lore questions for ya (and i'll probably ask more at a later date)

i would love to hear more about callum crown. literally any detail(s) you can comfortably give that wouldn't spoil a potential sequel or that 30-page lore doc (tho , gotta say, i wanna see that lore doc real bad).

you've said before that you'd like to expand on the singular timeline (how all of the routes coalesce in chapter 3) in dialtown, but that it's tough to put the words you have on paper into words on tumblr. i've got time. lemme read info on the timeline i beg of you

is there any particular reason that phonegingi's head resembles callum's, to the point that callum's 3D model head uses gingi's as a base?? there are hints (i use that term loosely) on your blog that gingi might have modeled their head after callum's. is there anything to that?

moreover, i'd like to know if there's more of a connection between callum and gingi than the heads alone. i mean, gingi literally hears callum's voice before hearing anything about the guy, and they can also somehow read his postcard (without the narrator) DESPITE being illiterate?

finally, a silly one, since winter is upon us! how does norm handle dialtown's winters, being a native arizonan/texan and all? as somebody who lived in arizona, lemme tell ya, the folks there don't take kindly to winter.

Some really interesting questions here. I could write an essay in response to some of these questions, which means you’ve undoubtedly asked some good questions heh. You're a sharp one. Lemme answer these as best I can without anticlimactically revealing essential lore in this random tumblr post heh heh

The stupid thing about that lore doc is that it should be even LONGER. While parts of the Dialup are explained, parts are left out, because I realized that explaining it would require adequately explaining a piece of very strange context regarding another character. Long story short, it connects to something that should ordinarily be very far removed from Crown's tale, so I left it out. I actually left entire pages out to avoid having to explain who someone previously unmentioned in the doc was. Crown's story is funny in the sense that so much of it is why Dialtown (both the game and the city) is the way it is, but the main story of Dialtown is so far removed from it, the only connections to it remaining being Mingus/Norm's beef. Norm's account of Crown's life isn't exactly inaccurate, no one thing he says is technically incorrect, but it misses vital context that completely changes parts of it. Norm missed the end of Crown's presidency, so he also had to learn from revisionist/secondary sources. Some parts are overly detailed, while other parts aren't. EG: Crown's early life has a LOT of focus, but as the timeline gets closer to the end, the detail slows down. Crown's two years of 'honorary leader of the UN' is brushed over, a title that implies he had control over the entire world briefly. As Norm's extras menu implies, Norm is (just like in Mingus) in partial denial about aspects of Crown's leadership and is also in the dark about the behind the scenes stuff from Crown's presidency. Crown's vice president (and best friend, Milton R. Wallace) ended his life after falling out with Crown over the Dialup, and the postcard read in chapter 3 heavily implies that Marla had returned to Dialtown without Crown after he left office. Since Mingus exists, we know Marla + Crown had at least one kid together. Could you imagine trying to raise a young family with the most powerful man in the world, a man who plans his day down to the hour, all without even having a permanent address? Crown’s final days were lonelier than Norm knows and I’d love to discuss them more one day.

Any instance in-game where time seems to be falling apart, there’s common visual signs that reality itself is tearing apart at the seams, hell, even outside of the main endings. Only one character in the cast seems to be really aware of this and... Well, seeing God binge-drinking on the curb is usually a bad sign of what’s to come. Hitchcock’s advice for writers who wanna add suspense to a scene is to make people unaware of something significant that’s about to happen. Example: Two men sitting at a table in a diner, talking about something, say, like football... Not a massively suspenseful scene. However, add a live bomb underneath the table, and establish that neither of the men know that it’s there, and every second of that scene will feel like hours, as you hope to GOD that one of the men will look under the table and notice the bomb before it goes off. The bomb under Dialtown’s ‘table’ has a long fuse, but the clock’s ticking down. A lot of what people have noticed regarding Dialtown’s time fuckery is a symptom of something (or someone?) desperately trying to plug up holes in a sinking ship. Anyway, I think I’ve said enough.

Callum Crown’s fame makes it impossible to tell if there really is any connection between him and Gingi’s appearance outside of an eerie coincidence. If Gingi’s head resembled a frankensteined JFK, I don’t think anyone would think for a moment that it meant that JFK and Gingi shared a direct connection, of course, and same for say, Mr Bean and the like. But Crown himself also being connected directly to Norm + Mingus makes it strange. Maybe it’s just the universe’s weird way of doing things, or maybe caused by an intrinsically unknown force? Maybe whoever built Gingi’s phone head just felt that it should look like the most powerful man on earth? Lotta possibilities. I mean. Like, I know the answer. But, for you guys, maaany possibilities!

The big issue with the question, of course, is how utterly abnormal Gingi is. God outright implies that Gingi is some sort of time anomaly, since he’s never seen anything quite like Gingi before, and with some of Gingi’s 4th wall breaking dialogue, it seems Gingi has some fleeting awareness of events in other timelines, somehow. That’s excluding Gingi’s weird biology or the fact that Gingi can hear sentient voices. Gingi is unique. You’re right that Gingi being able to hear Crown is abnormal, and combined with, like you said, them having similar appearances (and hell, I’ll add fuel to the fire: how transfixed Crown was with Gingi in that memory Mingus tearfully recounts during the climax, the one where Crown stares at Gingi while Gingi rummages through the garbage outside his window at the nursing home), there’s enough of a connection to be weird, but not enough of one to say anything conclusive. In my eyes, though, I reckon that some universal force could be drawing these two weirdos together, almost like a moth to a lamp. Birds of a feather.

Probably had some kind of insane insulation through hunting animals and shoving the pelts into the walls, or something. I guess he wouldn’t had the time to kill, alright.

Alright to start this ask off I'm just gonna say my interactions w/ you have genuenly been one of the funniest ive had in a long ass time. I've read ur recent post and I empathyse a lot. You seem incredibly funny and genuine. Idk your situation and your background and even your age, but I think you can and are pulling through. Things will get better even if you dont actively want them to. Im not saying this in a vague hope to make the situation you are in better. Im telling you, as a person who from the age of 14 went from therapist to therapist, somehow been on meds that dont fuckin exist yet in croatia, someone who feels trapped in the very /country/ she lives in with no means of escape, someone who is "waiting" for things to finally financially/academicaly/politicaly be better so that I can make something of my life. As it did for me, you will feel joy again in what you do, in what you have, and in what you can achieve. I think it's ok to be down, its ok to feel like "if a bus hit me tomorrow i wouldnt protest" but the thing about people is we adapt rather quickly. So putting yourself out there, going to places you are scared to and believe yourself to be an outcast from is exactly what gets you to meet people and see things that youll remember forever. And after a while the outcast will stop coming to these places, the person there will be someone who belongs. Apathy is a way of saying "fine whatever i dont even care anymore" but youll see how much you care.

I started getting ok after a full decade of *trying* and what I've always found is that for me the saying "don't take anything seriously" is no.1 rule. I get worked up, anxious and overwhelmed with so much so many times.

You may have problems with people at work with friends and whomever, but the main thing you gotta remember is *you cant change anyone but yourself*

And its not a change of personality, hair color, interests, its how much something will get to you, how willing are you to give something up thats not working out and how you will percieve something.

I have no doubt that you know all of this crap but i guess i wanted to say all of that just bc there is no greater pain for me than when i see someone feel like i did regardless of the reason or situation.

first of all - thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being so kind, sweet and insightful and offering your support.

the fact that you would take the precious time out of your day to write this out for me is, in a word, unbelievable. i really appreciate you checking in, it's an incredibly caring thing to do. to be honest i'm a little overwhelmed by the magnitude of this unexpected message and i wish i knew how better to express my appreciation.

i really do love to hear that i made you laugh. i live to shitpost. i've always prided myself on my sense of humor and sometimes i feel as if it's slipping away, so it's reliving to hear i've still got it.

unfortunately i still haven't had the strength to eat. i'm heading to work in a bit. things are pretty rough right now, but when have they not been? obviously my present circumstances aren't the root cause of all my problems. in fact my life has improved since moving here.

basically, in so few words, my current situation is that i'm nearly 25 and have nothing to show for it. i've lived in different cities across the US, had great jobs, apartments, friends, roommates, relationships, etc. i have done a lot of living in a short amount of time. but then, in retrospect, it feels like it stopped.

about 3 years ago i was in a very bad place mentally due to the isolation of the pandemic, and i met my husband online. in early 2022 i gave up everything, saved over $10k for the visa and moving costs, and relocated from the US to australia to live with him. our relationship itself has improved from how it used to be, but since the beginning we've had seemingly endless bad luck and financial setbacks.

last year, not long after our (very disappointing) wedding, i suffered a devastating miscarriage. ruptured ectopic, massive internal bleeding, required emergency surgery etc. not only was that traumatic emotionally, but i wasn't eligible for healthcare at the time bc of my immigration status, so we're still paying off the medical bill.

we share a house with my mother in law who is a domineering, emotionally incestuous single mom and an emotionally abusive narcissist. i don't throw that term around lightly, as so many people do these days, but i honestly believe she's devoid of empathy. she's admitted that she dislikes me and thinks i'm stupid because i don't talk much, and goes out of her way to make me feel unwelcome.

so i'm stuck in an area that feels, to me, like the middle of nowhere. i'm not homesick, i love this country. it's just that i'm not used to suburbs. i feel most comfortable in a city where there's people and places and things, neon lights and background noise and stuff to do.

i'd would be happy to live anywhere as long as it's not with her. it honestly feels like a prison sometimes. that sounds dramatic but she's cultivating an unbelievably hostile environment that causes me to feel on edge whenever she's around.

needless to say we need to move, desperately. it's our #1 priority. more than anything else i want a place of our own and eventually a family. we've been actively househunting for the better part of a year, but the rental market is catastrophically bad right now. it's not even about the money, since we're both working we can afford a decent place. it's just that it's so competitive. every showing i've attended, there's been like 30 other prospective tenants. we've been turned down from every apartment we've applied for.

on top of our living situation i have complex health issues that are just getting worse. my energy is zapped. trying to balance work work and housework leaves me with almost no free time to write.

this barely scratches the surface of why I Am The Way That I Am™. i'm not saying any of this to evoke sympathy or brag about 'having it hard'. simply trying to explain. my upbringing was abusive and dysfunctional in a number of ways. i just barely graduated high school. i never had traditional opportunities, i was raised in a way where there's basically no assumption/expectation that you'll ever be successful or fulfilled. i'm diagnosed with ADHD, PTSD and bipolar 2 - haven't been able to get my proper meds in australia. i've been addicted to hard drugs and alcohol. i'm not pleasant to be around. i will probably always look like and act like the lower class, white trash girl that i am. i have spent my entire life in survival mode.

i'm always in the midst of some identity crisis or running away from something. so yeah, i've been hurt and downtrodden. i've also experienced the beautiful side of life from time to time. i've gained a breadth of knowledge and met incredible individuals who introduced me to new perspectives and i'm forever grateful for them. with the way i've lived, i'm very lucky to not be dead or incarcerated right now.

ok, pity party's over. for real this time.

you're pretty much describing exactly how i feel. you know the struggle. the part about waiting to live my life; that's precisely where i'm at. i don't necessarily have a desire to fit in, i just want to get away into somewhere that i can adjust better to.

my isolation is partially due to a lack of energy but also i don't seek out interaction because i'm afraid no one else can understand me. not because i believe i'm too 'complex' or 'damaged' to be understood. that's a load of self-pitying bullshit. it's just scary to be truly seen. or vulnerable. or genuine. bc the results of such openness are unpredictable and uncomfortable.

it's hard, but i know i have to find it within myself to take that push. what's holding me back right now is mainly my material conditions, circumstances out of my direct control. i have no doubt i'll feel at least 50% better when i stop living with this woman.

i certainly have no problem with starting over if something doesn't work for me. contrary to what i might've described, i believe i'm pretty well adjusted, self aware and rational. as is obvious i don't take many things that seriously lmao. i went from caring wayyy too much about everything, being overly emotional and sensitive, to going entirely with the flow and accepting what i can't control or predict.

also i am well aware that you can't change people, that's never been my goal lmao i've never needed someone to tell me that <3

it sounds like you're also stuck between a rock and a hard place in your own environment, and i'm sorry to hear that. it's a wretched feeling but i believe you you will thrive no matter the setting, because in all seriousness, you're incredibly talented. i hope you know you should follow your dreams. hell, it looks like you already are and you're giving us the privilege of witnessing it. your art is stunning, the passion and care you put into your work is obvious. your matthew is absolutely beautiful - like his maman.

this is martin riley (born mary james riley yes this is important) and "his" spider name is spidershfiter :) he has DID but he's from 1976 so he has no clue what the fuck that is and nobody will tell him because MPD isn't even in the DSM until the 80s.

he was generally a kid who stayed by himself bc he spent all his time outside of school helping his mom out w the rooms that she rented out in their home (her dad was a mechanic and they were outside of town, so it was normal for someone who needed to get their car repaired to stay overnight etc etc) BUT he was best friends w a boy named peter parker :) peter called her MJ.

IM GONNA PUT STUFF UNDER THE CUT. UH. TW FOR CAR CRASHES/MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH/ ITS REALLY LONG SORRY IVE BEEN THINKING ABT THIS FOR WEEKS.

and then peter got bit. and riley found out about spiderman by complete accident! but he promised peter that he'd never tell a soul about it. so that went on for a couple months, with peter secretly acting as spiderman and riley being a big supporter of it but still dealing w his system & frequent loss of time etc etc

THEN. uh. there's a car accident. and peter dies, riley lives, and he doesn't quite know what to do with himself? but one of the thoughts in his head gets louder and louder demanding that he needs to be spiderman because without peter there IS no spiderman. nobody knows that spiderman is dead. riley does not want to be spiderman. but He Does:

nick forms as a trauma response to the crash. he wants to be spiderman. and goddammit he's gonna BE spiderman. so he starts to force himself to front and reverse-engineers all of the spider tech that peter was using to use for himself. and it works! he's able to be spiderman without having any powers, it's a miracle. but he's doing his best to hide it from riley. imagine hiding your secret identity from yourself.

meanwhile riley is going to college and getting an english degree. he picks up a job at his college library doing copyediting for other students. then someone from a big scientific organization comes over and is like "hey we need copyeditors. you're good at your job. c'mere." so he gets hired at alchemax, not for anything cool, just to copyedit people's papers/research/etc to make sure everything is clean and comprehensible.

that's when he meets jonathon ohnn :) who is a scientist as part of the budding space program but really his passion is alternate realities! he writes a lot. and riley keeps getting his papers. so eventually they decide to close the gap and start working one-on-one.

(i'm still debating what i want jon's backstory to be, my main thought is MAYBE Vietnamese family that immigrated? i don't know i gotta do more research on that)

they fall in love and start living together :) jon learns abt riley's system and tries to be as adaptable as he can towards it, which amazes riley bc he's never had someone in his life active acknowledge it.

THERES SOME EXTRA LORE ABT THE SPIDERS JUST KNOW FOR NOW THAT THERE ARE THREE WAVES OF SPIDERS. the original (bit peter) the spy (bit riley. spoilers oops) and the brute (bit eddie/venom and carnage bc aliens do not exist in my timeline but fucked up science does!)

riley gets bit when nick feels really bad about the "neglected" spiders and when trying to feed one gets bit. that gives them powers. the thing is w the spy powers is that a majority of them focus on stealth/reading people/etc. so like for example riley's webs are laced with a mild amount of hallucinogenics that it acts as a "truth serum" etc.

woahh now she's spiderman (SHE DOES NOT WANT TO BE SPIDERMAN.) nick is spiderman yayyy he likes being spiderman.

and uh! then jon dies. riley wasn't there. he was supposed to be at work that day but he called out. and he gets a phone call. jon's dead. he dies and it's never clear how he dies. his funeral is open casket and riley never gets full closure because his relationship w jon was never seen as what it actually was.

he stops fronting. nick starts fronting. nick is fronting for months. then an anomaly shows up in his dimension and he has to fight it, peter b shows up, is like "hey kid you need a part time job?" and nick's like YEAH I WANNA SEE THE OTHER SPIDER PEOPLE!!! PLEASE!!!! so into the multiverse they go!

but it had a strange reaction on riley and his system. basically, now, whoever fronts, the body shifts into (thus the name spidershifter).

they get assigned on spy missions because all things consider, it's impossible for them to cause a paradox because nick/mickey/vanessa/etc do NOT exist in these universes! (but what about riley? you may ask. aren't there other rileys?)

here's the thing about riley: he is dead in most universes. he's a canon event. he's the uncle ben for johnathon (if he lives long enough to see him at all). he's supposed to be dead. why isn't he? because he became mj. so he's an outlier from a realistic timeline shift and he hates it. he hates it so much but. he tries to find jon in the universes that spidershifter is sent to spy on. he just wants to see him. talk to him, maybe.

the spot happens and uh why does he sound like his dead boyfriend. why does he remember him. why is he talking to him. Help. (my hc is that when 1610 jon became the spot, he fused with all other versions of him. there is no other jon. there is just him and he remembers all of them)

uhm and that's all i have rn bc that's where the movie ends and i dont want to go into detail talking abt specific alters or interactions w specific characters unless asked. bc this is already so much. im so sorry.

but you're so right about everything with totk. you put it in words so well 😭 idk if you found memory 9, so i won't spoil anything, but it was SO GOOFY look up gmod smile after you watch it and explode instantly. loftwings would've made the game infinity better, like skeleehorses can go over gloom (such a silly name btw) and horses are always great, but there's nothing to ride in the sky??? missed oppurtunity imo. i basically play with no tech becuase i hate using it 😔 i have much to say on this game and sadly most of it around the plot isn't thatg nice

but no yeah i dont enjoy the tech lol. i think modern tech in fantasy is a slippery slope from “woah cool its so interesting how this fantastical society developed things we never couldve thought of” to “this isnt even fantasy its just sci-fi with medieval paint slapped over it” thats what botw vs. totk is to me. we went from giant magical mechs and tech that felt more like sentient creatures to a straight up four wheeler. also its just clunky. to me. vexes me.

i am playing it very slowly for several reasons so im not far im only two memories in (trying to do them in order) lol but im not impressed by the writing either again ive only beat the rito “dungeon” idk what to call it. it was fine. really felt like they just tried to replicate the divine beasts but it didnt work. the weird disembodied voice felt forced in totk its just this random exposition guy that felt like he was just there for the sake of mimicking the structure of the champions talking to you where in botw that makes sense because they’re important characters that you learn more about and play a role in the story and also they literally died and their souls were trapped in their beasts. and totk was like ah shit ah fuck we gotta have another disembodied voice throw this guy in there and have him lore drop on you. who is he. who cares.

and then the divine beasts were like interesting involved puzzles there was one i thiiiink the camel you literally had to turn entire parts of it to line up electrical signals to get places and unlock things it was a little frustrating but i had to think about it!! same with the elephant you had to control the entire mechanism to move things and you had to Think about it. the rito ship was just go find these things. ok the divine beasts were also that with the terminals but you had to work for it. totk really just went go walk around for awhile and find them. no real puzzle to it. there was a little bit with the doors/levers but it did not feel nearly as involved or thought through.

i will say i did like the boss fight the ice guy. cool guy. looked cool baller music neat new little thing you had to do to beat it i liked it. that was cool i will give them that they know how to get me pumped for a boss fight

ok but the cutscene with zelda near the beginning was goofy as hell. just straight up like woaaaahh she floated into the sky thats crazy!!! whaaat!!!!! felt extremely silly. i was sitting there like is this a gag is this supposed to be funny i cannot tell. very much threw me off. could not take seriously

also. fucking. got rid of her again. if they wanted to have the same success of botw maybe they should’ve gee idk changed the formula again and let zelda be with us. a two player zelda game would be so cool. even if it was still single player and we could just interact with her and have her with us im thinking kindof last of us/resident evil 4 style where she helps you do certain puzzles or helps you fight like other npcs. even if she just stayed at the base and helped purah with research and you could talk to her thatd be more interesting. GIVE HER TO ME!!

the intro really just felt like oh we have to get rid of zelda again because we need link to be alone so we can copy botw uhhhhh magic rock teleports her to the past yeah yeah that works. they decided they needed this to happen and then made a story to excuse those choices rather than actually construct something cohesive.

im not even halfway through the game so i dont wanna be tooo hard on it or form strong opinions but id rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointment after getting my hopes up. i havent been spoiled for anything but i have seen people complain in general so im kinda leaning towards disappointment lol. like its zelda im still having fun i just also am looking at it from a critcal point of view and i have plenty to say. i used this as an excuse to talk for a looong time anyways. im currently working on getting specific horse colors that i preplaned by looking at this horse chart to name after characters from a book i like ✌️ i didnt pay 70 dollars to not have any fun with this game so help me god i am going to enjoy Some of it

ive been watching mech cadets, only have 2 episodes left to watch, here's my thoughts so far

1/ sentient alien mech suits? yes please. (i never got into transformers somehow but i love sentient robots, give me more. if you have good sentient mechs media to recommend, gimme) i do wish we'd see more of them tho, as in, their personalities, and like, lore, where'd they come from? why did they come here to help against the sharg? i do like the comment on how they arent battle ready when they arrive, the humans arm them up. there's just so much here i want to know more about.

2/ the general style is nice, i love the little intro animation, really sleek. i also love how the animation style changed during flashback sequences? that's really cool. the nexus link view where u see the pilots in dot space is kinda silly but in a fun way. i like the robo designs, and their round hover wings whatever it is. cool shit.

3/ standford yu somehow the least interesting character lmao? ava fucking rocks. she's the best. tanaka great mentor figure. i love maya and frank, they're very sweet. olivia really came around, and despite how hateable commander park is, i do love that you can see where he's coming from, even if you dont agree with his actions. that's good character writing

4/ i gotta give frank's disability its own bullpoint. spoilers i guess i just wanna gush about it. the guy has a prosthetic leg and it's not an issue for him being a pilot, altho we do see in a flashback that he's actually more comfortable without the prosthetic and prefers his crutches? which is like. the first time ive seen a disabled character say that in media. that rules. he does accept to wear a prosthetic cause that's a concession he has to make to be able to pilot a mech. in a fight scene against a sharg, his prosthetic gets cut in half, and he doesn't skip a beat and continues fighting, without then with his crutches once he gets his hands on them, and even just. stabs the monster with his broken off prosthetic, which fucking rules. from then on, he doesnt get a new prosthetic, he just keeps his crutches, and instead gets a special suit that has a prosthetic inside of it cause he needs it to pilot the mech, but he's not forced to have the prosthetic outside the mech in his day to day life, which is like? accessibility win?? he didn't want it to begin with, the reason he had to wear it was "we can't modify the suit just for one guy" basically (which is the only reason he was worried for a few episodes about his prosthetic not being fixed -- it was just bc he wanted to pilot the mech, he could handle himself fine without it). and the, just, visual metaphor of ripping the rest of his broken prosthetic to finish of the sharg in that fight scene i mentioned earlier? like it's a liberation?? incredible. i just. i love this so much. this is all that matters to me now. i love frank and how they've treated him and his disability so much.

Hello !,hello!,ive stumbled on your blog and gotta say absolutely love your writing and analysis!! And im curious to ask what character or characters homeland or family would you wanna see in another event?

I’m up for any new homeland lore or meeting any new family member (maybe in parent-teacher conference event to meet a lot of them at once???), really 👀 I don’t discriminate! If I had to pick some of my most anticipated locations and family members, then...

Rose Queendom! It seems like a whimsical, flower-filled place, and I like that kind of an aesthetic. It might be fun to also drop by the Clover Family Bakery. I think it’d be cozy and cute! As for family, I’d want to see Mama Spade and Chenya’s grandpa. They would make for some wholesome character moments! ... NOT GONNA LIE, I KIND OF ALSO WANT TO SEE MAMA ROSEHEARTS TOO 😅 JUST TO SEE IF THE HEART AHOGE LOOK WEIRD ON HER....................... It might be interesting to meet a character that doesn’t have a healthy dynamic with a main cast boy; it would really shake up the formula and give us some nuanced interactions.

Sunset Savanna! This would be a good excuse to bring Cheka back in, as well as introduce other characters twisted from those in The Lion King. Maybe we can even see Farena/Falena along with some tasty family drama between him and L*ona or him embarrassing L*ona, that works too 🤡 I’d also love to see Granny Bucchi. She sounds like such a tough and hardworking person to Ruggie and the neighborhood kids. OH, AND WE CAN’T FORGET ABOUT ROOK???????? IF YOU CAN’T SHOW US YOUR BICEPS THEN AT LEAST INTRODUCE US TO YOUR (totally not suspicious at all, I’m sure) MOM AND DAD AND 5 SIBLINGS.

Coral Sea! It would be such a different environment than what most of the TWST cast is used to, which I think opens up a lot of possibilities for unique and fun situations. I feel like a lot of fandom depictions of the Coral Sea make it out to be a romantic and shining utopia like Atlantica, but I’ve always seen it more as a place that’s more… rough around the edges? Like, with pirate ships and unseen danger lurking about in its depths. I’d want to see if the Coral Sea as a whole is more like Atlantica or more like the underwater caverns where Ursula lives. ALSO GIVE US MERFORM BOYS, TWST-- I’d also be interested in meeting both the Leech and the Ashengrotto parents! I wonder if Leech Mama and Leech Papa are as intimidating as a lot of fan art makes them out to be? I’m very curious about Azul’s parents (mom and stepdad) as well, because the fan interpretations and theories on them are more... mixed, I feel???? I’ve seen some people say that his parents aren’t loving because Azul made no mention of them helping him when he was going through his episode 3 flashback and detailing his bullying, and then others say his mom did care because she fed him well, but was maybe too preoccupied with her restaurant to realize something was happening to her son. I have an Azul stan friend that suggested that Azul might have lied about his happy family and childhood so as to preserve his own image, which he clearly values 🤔 dnbsvsuekxks Anyway, since the Octatrio can’t be trusted 💕 I think we need to witness their hometown and their families with our own eyes~

Briar Valley! There’s a lot that has yet to be explored about its history, culture, and politics. I want to delve more into that, as well as the human-fairy tensions that seem to exist here. Catch me ignoring Malleus’s grandma and rushing to the Zigvolt residence to hit up Sebek’s parents 🥺 I WANT TO HEAR ALL ABOUT BABYBEK... AND TO WITNESS A LOVE SO PURE THAT IT TRANSCENDS SOCIETAL PRESSURE WITH MY OWN EYES.

Jubilee Port! This is actually Sam’s hometown, and it doesn’t get much mention! Since we don’t know much about it and we don’t have many characters from it, it has a strong air of mystery (even moreso than the Briar Valley). Sam has such a chipper attitude, and I wonder if he got some of it from where he was raised (since the name of his hometown also sounds so cheery)?

ohhhh my gosh ive been so out of it all week. i finally got all that shit with my grade sorted. apparently my exam wasn't registering as a grade for some reason. whatever was wrong, it's fixed now, so i have a C instead of an F. C works!!

i've also been writing some. not a lot, and nothing really good? but. shrugs!! it's something!! i actually have a writing blog, @minorisato . i don't think it has a link to my main (though my main does link to it) but like whatevs i'm not toooooo pressed about people finding my main.

i have a lot of homework i gotta do but i'm procrastinating. this week has been like, wildly stressful. i almost beat the shit out of a kid in my creative writing CLASS the other day. (uh, background knowledge; i already hold a grudge against this kid cause he tried to "um actually" me on transformers lore like 5 months ago, in creative writing CLUB. never do that to me i'll wipe the floor with you, as i did with him)

like, we've been trying to save a little bit of time at the end of class everyday, so all the students can introduce themselves right? we've been trying to do this for weeks. well, he introduced himself, and during his introduction he went on a (i am not joking) FOUR MINUTE TIRADE about how THE PROGRESSIVES are ruining everything and how he felt BETRAYED by leftism and how he NO LONGER IDENTIFIES as a leftist (with added commentary about how he's shy around women and how he hates the gays and how "if you're a progressive or a christian [big brain reddit athiest type] you might think i'm evil"- also, a girl turned around, and was like "i don't think you're evil," and he didn't even verbally reply he just made devil horns at her like what?!?!?!?)

so anyway naturally i turned to my friend and was like "im gonna rip this kids hair out from the root i swear?????" i went to the teacher after class and i was like "sir don't you think that was getting a little... preachy??????????" and he made that face that people make when they REALLY WANNA AGREE and really wanna say something bad, but they can't or they'll lose their jobs.

if he shows up at creative writing CLUB again i might actually kill him. exert my vice president power and like literally just tell him to get out.

Also remember how wordy and flowery Teyvat speech/dialogue is? ADD THAT TO THE FACT THAT TEYVAT HAS ITS OWN LANGUAGE---

Reader can understand the basic speech which is why they are so blunt (I love this idea so much 🤣) and can piece together an idea what the person is talking about.

*insert random person talking about a commission with a long ass backstory*

Traveller & Co.: *understands completely and making plans to retrieve said commission*

C!Reader: (They said they had a cart.... a bunch of hilichurls appeared... dancing?.... they want us to dance fight the hilichurls???? Dance off???)

Actual story->The person's cart got ambushed by a group of hilichurls and taunted them by dancing around it.

....... it doesnt always translate well

Also imagine Reader heaeing random names and overthinks it as a word instead of a name.

Example: Pantalone means pants in Philippine English (sorry not sorry Pantalone)

Tsaritsa??? Oh do they speak russian there??? - reader

Capitano -> captain in some countries

(I once mistake Sandrone as Sandalone and I just went "... ehh??? Standalone? Sandalone as in Sand Alone???? Sandal (Flip flops)????

irt your tags (nothing negative, genuine speculation here), i wonder if it's a matter of perspective concerning the notes. like i see what you mean by being more specific in the notes, those are a good place to elaborate further about what's in there. as I see it, the tags are the full list of warnings a la "does the dog die" and other sites like that, while the notes are individual warnings for each chapter + background stuff. i write a lot of multi-chapter fics or vignette stuff, so having the notes be individualized tag specifications helps but I still feel the need to include it in the main tags as a full warning of what this particular fic will contain. like i dont want to suddenly jump someone with a discussion about gender identity in the middle of something, even when it's the most casual conversation and very blase. so instead of the reader coming across a note that says "there's gonna be gender discussion here" when they werent warned previously, i'd rather have a messy tag about gender discussions and then use the note to flag which chapter it is and how it plays out (eg how explicit, its function, etc.).

but that's just me, your thoughts def got me thinking though and its interesting to see how people interpret the archive tags - especially since i know that some people see them both as warning and advertisement

oh huh yeah i guess i didnt really think about the notes as like, extra misc warning spot! i mean kind of- im sure ive seen people use it that way and just not remembered lol. like it seems to me the notes are a much looser optional area - sometimes i dont read them [usually i do tho. i like bonus lore LOL] [but also sometimes i just forget to read even the tags and get jumpscared, but thats all a Me Thing lmao]

but i mean i think thats all super good! i dont disagree lol. having some messy tags isnt bad at all i dont think, within reason. i never thought much about multi chapter fics bc i both dont write them and barely ever read them [i am suddenly reminded one of the few multi chap fics i DO read updated recently and i forgot!!! i still gotta read it!!!]

i know for me i like to use the notes as like bonus thought process rattling zone and also bc i tbh struggle to tag things lol. im pretty sparse in the actual tags cuz i feel like thats where the core info should go, and then i do my "here's my thought process and the various hurdles i ran into every 5 seconds" rambling in the tags before/after lol, bc i figure thats just extra people can skip if they just wanna read the story. and i dont really write much in the way of triggering topics usually so i dont personally have extra stuff to warn about. that's an interesting take on how you use them! and probably very helpful lol. i'll have 2 remember that if i ever try to be brave for a multi chapter fic lmao
