102.8 - 02/03
I weighed myself for the first time in years on Tuesday.
Last time I weighed myself, I remember seeing “19st…” on the scale before I slammed my eyes shut, stumbled off and took the batteries out. I always avoid the scales because I’m wise to my prior failings and I know when I start assigning numbers to things, I’m going to start tracking them.
I’m tall, so I carry it well but I’ve never felt comfortable in my body, no matter the size.
I’m actively in therapy because I’ve tried the ol’ self-checkout a time or two in years gone by, and whilst I’ve not ACTually tried on my most recent crash-and-burn, I was dangerously, dangerously close to it.
So that was about a year ago, and I’ve been seeing a therapist since. I’m trying to look after myself better, and you know what? I am. In so many ways, i am. It’s all a big work in progress, but im making small steps in the right direction.
However, i find myself nearing month six of a very chaotic time in my life (one that isn’t likely to get any less chaotic any time soon) and whilst ive been managing to keep myself together pretty well throughout it, my control issues are kinda bursting out in ways i cant control (funny that…).
I think I started actively restricting myself again around two weeks ago. At least, that’s when I noticed it happening again, it might’ve started a bit before that - my short term memory isn’t great these days.
It feels like being welcomed home by an old friend, into a house that feels so familiar.
I downloaded a food tracker a week ago.
For the first time in I can’t even remember how long, I stood on the scale yesterday morning and I was under 16 stone. Not by much, and I knew I’d go back into the 16s again. But it’s there, and it’s so, so close. A fifteen. Right there on the scale.
Proof in the lack of pudding that hating myself in this particular way bore results that I wanted.
I washed my hands the other day and my rings fell off when I shook my hands dry. I had to buy a belt hole punch because for the first time, my belt is too loose.
My jeans don’t fit me. What a problem to have.
For all of the fun my and my brain have together, I’ve never had an eating disorder, exactly. Sure, I didn’t digest a lot of what I’d eat in high school, but who doesn’t go through a phase? I have a “complicated” relationship with food that’s been pretty amicable the last few years but so much is currently outside my control that I’m not even sure I tried to stop when I realised I was satisfying that need by restricting food. I maintain that it’s an exertion of control more so than it is an eating disorder because I could stop. I just don’t think I’m going to for a while.
I love eating, it’s why the control feels so good.
And then someone who sees me every day says “you’ve lost a noticeable amount of weight”.
And then I can feel where my collarbones are for the first time in years when I’m standing in the shower before I let myself have a meal for the first time in five days, trying to fight the lightheadedness and marvelling at it at the same time.
And then, and then and then.
Let’s see how far we go this time.

Media I'm Currently Consuming
With my return to this tumblr which is focused on media reviews/fangirling I thought I'd write a post on what media I've been reading, watching and listening to lately.
In terms of comics and graphic novels, other than catching up on One Piece and Akatsuki no Yona, I've recently been pulled into the isekai and villainess genres which led me to Korean manhwas. I've read a lot recently and I'll probably post separate reviews on my favourite ones but my current reads are:
"Flirting with the Villain's Dad" by Dalseul
"Trash of the Count's Family" by PING
"Little Rabbit and the Big Bad Leopard" by Yasik and Mogin.
Concurrently to the mangas and manhwas I've also started reading light novels that I originally found the mangas/manhwas of first then transitioned to the light novels. For this I'm currently reading:
"By the Grace of the Gods" by Roy
"Housekeeping Mage from Another World" by You Fuguruma
"The Haunted Bookstore - Gateway to a Parallel Universe" by Shinobumaru
"Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill" by Ren Eguchi
In terms of TV shows... I'm behind on everything haha. I'll probably get around to the Marvel stuff but for now the only thing I've been watching is "Supernatural" which I'm restarting from the beginning (I stopped at season 11) and "Amazing Saturday" (Korean Variety Show)
No films because I haven't watched anything for the past few years... unless rewatching all off the MCU up until the end of Phase 4 counts.
For games, ever since the Nintendo 3ds store closed down I've been switching between replaying my old games like "Fire Emblem Fates" "Pokemon X" and "Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns" while also playing games I bought before the store closed like "Etrian Odyssey IV" and "Persona Q"
Since this is the first of this kind of post I'm making the format is kind of janky and I'm not sure how to end it but I just thought I'd share and maybe I'll make this a monthly series or something.

MCALPINE SESSIONS ANON HERE, BESTIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I've been MIA, there was a little drama with a certain ship that is prominent on your blog that I just did not wanna deal with lmao. I didn't wanna project my annoyance with the ship onto you so for my sanity, I had to leave BUT I'M HERE NOW AND FERAL FOR SOME UPDATES (or just some shop talk, I need more friends 🥲) I hope you've been doing well though! I saw you were on a little hiatus a while back so I hope everything is good on your side of the universe ❤️
YAAAAAAAY YOURE BACK!!!! 🩷🩷🩷🩷 tysm for thé well wishes firstly, things are up and down over here but i’m trying my best to just keep on keeping on and the support means all the world to me! but it’s pride month so i’ve been trying have more fun and just enjoy it, i’m hoping to see some of the new marvel releases soon and OMGGG THE NEW CAP 4 content i am barking i am feral SAM LOOKS SO GOOD HES BACK HES BAAAAAACK
in terms of fic ive been writing a little bit but not as much as i’d like bc i’ve been pretty busy with life and also the rpg i’m currently modding lol HOWEVER i’ve locked in some new plot points and my definite plan once time frees up for me in a few months is a full rewatch of all 3 cap films and maybe even sam’s other cameos (and maybe fatws…. not sure yet, that one i saw more recently and a LOT of time has to pass before i can stomach rewatching anything if i ever do at all, even my favorite things, bc my attention span SUCKS lmao) + hopefully i’ll be able to crank out some of the scenes for the fic set within that time frame (bc i’ve been writing most of the ones that happen post cacw) and then it’ll be done! or ready to be beta’d at least… which… if ur interested 👀 i cant remember what my last update for u was about so i’ll update this post with a new snippet once it’s been shared <33
edit: here it is!!
the front door slammed, and sam dropped his keys on the counter before appearing upside down above them. to his credit, he did not seemed phased to find them tangled up underneath the couch’s throw blanket in the middle of the day.
“what’s this about hickeys, and why am i getting them?”
“bucky’s retired.” steve offered by way of explanation, raising his free arm to pull sam closer. even so, they couldn’t quite reach without him doubled over the frame, so he wandered down the hallway to change out of his clothes before steve could kiss him.
the problem is all the scenes post cacw after they get together are sort of just random which means it goes from this intense emotional will they won’t they with a touch of actual canon events created non romantic tension to this slush of fluff and domesticity and no real stakes anymore hahahahaha like idk where to go with it??? beyond just. making them cuddle more LMAO so…. any suggestions from the people lmk
i hope you’ve been doing well yourself and taking care of yourself and i as always look forward to hearing from you again soon :))) with regards to the ship drama, i am SOOOO curious could u elaborate??? was the drama related to my blog or just like generally in the fandom? DONT LEAVE ME HANGIN WHAT WAS THE SHIP 👀👀👀 i don’t feel like i post that many so i’m so intrigued which it could be lol since i’m assuming it’s not sambucky and probably (??) not stevebucky (tho maybe)
but seriously though i’d love to know bc i don’t want my account to be uncomfy for anyone but least of all my fav anon x so if i need to update my tagging system for u to properly blacklist my posts about it or anything of the sort pls lmk, either here (and i can answer privately too if you’d prefer 🤍) or messaging me! plus if by drama there’s smth actually problematic im rb i absolutely wanna be informed and aware of it! i will confess i’m quite curious as to who my secret admirer could be ;)) and i appreciate ur honesty!
until the next meeting, be well and lots of love 🫶🏻

SAM WILSON X READER
A/N: there is not enough sam fics on tumblr so here I am. I haven’t edited this i am too tired for life right now. Also please send me requests for marvel especially peter parker, sam wilson, bucky, steve and scott.
Tumblr media
You yawned as you walked into the main kitchen and living area the avengers shared. Tony had sent a message round to everyone telling them to gather here and considering that the time was 7 o'clock in the morning you weren't best pleased. Nat was leaning against one of the counters and snorted at your sleepy expression as you walked past her to the coffee machine. You glared at her and returned to your coffee making, rubbing your eyes as the machine started pouring caffeine into your mug. Once the steaming beverage was done, you sleepily dragged yourself to the breakfast bar and plopped down into one of the stools. At that moment, Steve, Sam and Bucky entered the room, obviously having just finished a group workout as they were all freshly showered and wafting man smell everywhere. You rolled your eyes at their annoyingly energetic selves and sipped your coffee. When Sam noticed your slumped form at the bar he smiled softly and walked over to you, scooting into the seat next to you and reaching out to take a sip of your coffee. Unfortunately for you, you were too late to prevent the smirking soldier from slurping a large proportion of your beverage. You grumbled and glared at Sam who passed you back your mug with a cheeky grin. "You look cheery this morning." He said, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning onto the counter. "Well sorry mr early bird but some of us don't appreciate being woken up at the crack of dawn for a meeting stark called and hasnt even turned up for yet." You snarked back, causing a chuckle to fall from Sam, "It's quarter past 7 love, dawn was 3 hours ago." You glared at him for what felt the 100th time that morning and felt a small heat rise to your face as you saw the obnoxiously handsome smirk Sam held on his face and the way his biceps were bulging as they leaned on the bar top. "Same thing." You mumbled, draining the last drops of your coffee. Tony walked in and Steve grumbled a 'finally' as you all turned your attention to the billionaire carrying some pastries. He dumped them in front of you and Sam and you both instantly reached in to pull out breakfast. "What's this all about then Stark?" Sam asked as he chewed on his pecan twist. "Ive gathered you all here because we have got a charity event today for some of the schools in the area. You all will be hosting an activity for the kids. We have 2 hours until they all arrive." You grimaced as you vaguely remembered Tony mentioning the charity event a few weeks back but you had been so busy on missions recently you had forgotten. Judging by the similar looks on the teams' faces around the room, you gathered that the event had also slipped their minds. "So... Steve and Bucky you will be hosting the self defense taster down in the gym, a few agents will also be down there to ensure you aren't teaching them anything too aggressive..." Tony continued to list off everyone in the room and ticked off his checklist, "Okay and finally, Wilson and Agent L/N will be hosting arts and crafts in the downstairs hall." At once Sam spoke up, "wait why have I got stuck with arts and crafts?" You chuckled at his distraught expression, he obviously thought he was above painting and colouring. "Why you scared of a lil glitter Sammy?" You giggled and he glared at you, hating the effect that nickname had on him. "No...I just think my talents lie elsewhere." He replied causing you to snort. "Well suck it up Wilson." Tony replied and you saw Bucky and Steve wetting themselves on the other side of the room. Sam had obviously noticed too as he had a huge frown on his face and was scowling at them. "Alright everybody go get ready, all your supplies should be in the rooms already. And remember, 2 hours until they arrive." You sighed and stood up, placing your mug in the dishwasher. Sam was waiting by the door, and you nudged him as you both walked out, "Come on Wilson, cheer up, your stuck with me for 6 hours." Sam groaned and rolled his eyes, "Oh great." When you both reached the room, your eyes widened when you looked at the large pile of boxes brimming with craft supplies stacked in the middle of the room. "Jeeezz." Sam breathed out, walking over to inspect the mountain. You both opened the cardboard box lids and scanned the supplies, "Where do we even start?" You asked, baffled at the amount Tony had ordered. "Guess we just start with one box and empty them until it's all set up." Sam replied and you nodded, tying your hair up into a ponytail. Almost 2 hours later, the room had been transformed into a neatly organised explosion with paint, pencils, glitter glue and many other supplies on each table. "Okay, we have 5 minutes until the kiddos arrive." Sam stated, checking the watch on his wrist. "Cool, I'm gonna grab us some water and snacks from the kitchen. Try not to break anything while I'm gone." You teased and Sam playfully rolled his eyes, "Alright." When you arrived back into the room, arms loaded with bags of snacks, you immediately laughed at how awkward Sam looked surrounded by little kids all badgering him with questions. You quickly distributed the food into one of the empty cardboard boxes in the corner and walked over to Sam, giggling at his wide eyed expression of fear. "Hey everyone!" You said loudly, gathering all the little kids attentions, "I'm Y/N and this is Sam. We are gonna be doing arts and crafts with you today, how does that sound?" At once all the children cheered and you glanced at Sam who stood in awe and fear. "Okay then, lets all sit down at a table and we can start." The kids all ran to a chair and you walked over to Sam, "you okay Sammy?" He nodded slowly, "I don't know what I'm meant to do, they're so small." You chuckled and took his hand in yours, dragging him over to a table. "It'll be fine just relax, they can smell fear," You whispered. Soon, each child was creating some sort of masterpiece and you were sitting with a small group of kids who were colouring. "Wow Amy I love your dog it looks awesome." You commented, making the shy little girl beam. "Thankyou." She replied and you smiled, carrying on colouring a picture you had attempted to draw of an elephant. Glancing up to check on Sam, you looked to see he had a girl sat on his thigh as they both coloured something. You felt your heart begin to swell and butterflies fill your stomach as you watched the adorable scene. The girl was happily chatting away to Sam and he was nodding, laughing every so often and replying to many of the kids around the table. "Could you please pass me the green?" Tom asked, one of the boys sitting opposite Sam. "Yep, there you go." the soldier replied and Tom thanked him before returning to his drawing. The little girl sat on Sam's thigh tapped his arm and he looked down to her, "I want to give this to my Mum when I go home." Gracie said and Sam nodded, "that's very nice of you." Gracie blushed a little and grinned, "you should give your drawing to Y/N, then she could put it on her fridge like my mummy does." Sam glanced down at the image Gracie had drawn of Sam and you together that he was colouring. "I don't know about that..." He said and Gracie frowned, "you should give it to her and then she'll want to marry you and stick all your drawings on the fridge." Sam choked on his air a little, "why would she want to marry me because I gave her our picture?" Gracie sighed as if Sam had just asked the most obvious question there was, "because she loves you." "What? No she doesn't Gracie." Sam replied and Gracie shook her head, "Mummy told me when people love each other very much they look at each other in a special way and you and Y/N look at each other like that." Sam gaped at the little smiling girl on his lap and struggled to form any words at how outright she was being, "Oh urh no I dont think so." Gracie then giggled and said, "Plus Y/N was looking at your bum earlier so she definitely wants to marry you." Sam felt heat rise to his face and Gracie shrugged, not phased at all by their conversation. The pair continued to colour together and the topic quickly changed to the pasta Gracie had eaten last night for dinner. When the last few kids were leaving the craft room as it had eventually reached 3pm, you sighed and groaned at the mess of glitter and pens all around you. "I do not want to clear this up." You stated and Sam nodded, standing up from his chair, "Neither, I never knew kids could be this messy." You chuckled and glanced at the soldier walking towards you, instantly breaking out into laughter when you noticed the large red streak of paint across his cheek. At once Sam frowned and stopped next to you, "What?" You giggled and wiped your thumb across his cheek, showing him the red paint he had somehow managed to acquire. "Oh..." Sam said, rubbing the paint with the back of his hand but managing to just smudge it more. You chuckled and shook your head, "Sorry Sammy but your just making it worse." He huffed in frustration and put his hand down, giving up with cleaning his face, "Oh well, I'll wash it off later." Eventually, the room was turned back into a presentable state with only specks of glitter littered across the floor that you knew would be impossible to remove. You yawned and walked to the entrance, followed closely by Sam who turned the light off. "Im exhuasted." He said, trying to stifle a yawn. "Me too, I'm gonna head up for a shower." You replied and Sam nodded, "Alright, I'll see you later, chinese for dinner." You softly smiled and both walked to your seperate rooms, ready to wash off the paint and glitter encrusted into your skin. When you had given up on trying to remove all the glitter from your hair in the shower, you headed into your room and huddled under your duvet, wanting to catch up on some netflix before dinner. A knock at the door interrupted your series selection and you looked up to see Sam standing at your door, a small smile on his face. "Hey y/n." He said, closing the door behind him. "Hey Sammy, did you need anything?" You asked, confused why he looked so nervous. "Oh uh no, I just wanted to give you something." He replied, walking closer to you as you stood up and put your laptop on your cabinet. "Oh okay." You said, smiling under Sam's soft gaze. He handed you a sheet of paper and you frowned in confusion before turning it over and giggling. Sam rubbed the back of his neck nervously watching your eyes scan the drawing Gracie and him had made. "I know its stupid but I wanted you to have it." Sam said quietly and you looked up at his shy smile, "I love it." You grinned and he seemed to let out a breath of relief, "you can stick it on your fridge." You chuckled and rubbed your thumb over the drawing of you and sam standing together. "Thanks Sammy." The aforementioned soldier felt heat rise to his face and saw your eyes flick down to his lips. "Uh I should probably find Nat... see what she urm wants for dinner." You said awkwardly, trying not to focus on the way Sam was chewing his lip and the tight grey shirt he was wearing that unfairly showed off his chiselled chest and arms. "Oh right." Sam nodded, seeming to break out of a trance and opened your door, "I'll uh see you later yeah?" You nodded and he stepped out, looking at you one last time and giving you a small smile before disappearing down the corridor. You looked down at the drawing in your hand again and groaned, heart and muscles aching for you to run after the tall man and press your lips against his. Instead, you shut you door and walked to Nats room. When you knocked on her door, the red haired agent opened it with a knowing smirk on her face. "What's Wilson done now?" She asked and you groaned, stepping in to her room. You held out the drawing he gave you and Nat scanned it quickly before looking up at you in confusion. "Why have you got a drawing of you and Sam?" She asked, frowning. "He gave it to me." You sighed, causing Nat to laugh. "He gave it to you?" You nodded and Nat grinned, "wow he is so in love with you." You rolled your eyes at her sarcasm, "Wow thanks Nat. But seriously how am I meant to refrain from jumping his ass when he keeps doing adorable stuff like this?" Nat laughed and handed you back the paper, "You just need to go and tell him or you'll spend the rest of your lives dancing around each other and not doing anything about it." You sighed, "I know. But what if he doesnt like me back then I've just screwed up our friendship and the team dynamic." Nat nodded sympathetically, "I know it's scary but come on that man loves you to death and somehow everyone but you can see it." You looked down at the drawing again and nodded, "Fine, but if i end up dying on the spot from embarrassment after his rejection I'm blaming you." Nat rolled her eyes and pushed you out the door, shouting a 'good luck.' You nervously walked down the corridor and up the short staircase to the kitchen. Sam was leaning against the table, looking at something on his phone with a frown. Your heart instantly sped up and stomach did a hundred flips. You walked softly into the shared dining area and coughed lightly. At once, Sam looked up and smiled. "Urm I uh need to tell you something." You nervously stuttered, avoiding looking into his deep eyes. "Oh okay." Sam said, mind instantly running with negative ideas that you were hurt or he had done something wrong. "I urm well I... I think that you're urm." You looked up at him and his concerned eyes met yours. "Please could you uh turn around." Sam's face flitted with confusion, "wait what?" "I urm I cant talk with you looking at me like that." You said and Sam frowned but turned around. "Okay." He softly said, and you scanned his form, trying to build up the courage to tell him. "I guess I well I just want to say that I think you're the most lovely person in the world and I dont think that I could live without you Sam. You make me feel so comfortable and calm me down when I feel like the world is collapsing on me. You never fail to make me smile and I feel like the room lights up when you walk in. I love how kind and sweet you are to everyone but also how you make the stupidest jokes in the world and laugh your head off. I'm in love with you Sam and want to spend the rest of my life with you." You looked up to see Sam turning around to face you. You couldnt bear to meet his eye, knowing any possible friendship was now gone. A soft hand touched your cheek and lifted your head up, making your teary gaze meet his. "I'm in love with you too Y/N and I never want to leave your side." Sam pressed his lips against yours softly, making your heart stutter with happiness. You wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed your body against his, deepening the kiss as his hands squeezed your hips tightly. "Hey sam whens the chinese.... oh." Bucky said, his voice trailing off when he saw his best friend passionately kissing you. He wolf-whistled and chuckled, "Took you guys long enough." Sam broke apart from your lips, resting his forehead against yours, "Fuck off Buck." Bucky sniggered and walked out the kitchen again, hand raised in surrender. You opened your eyes to see Sam looking at you, "I love you." You spoke softly, "I love you too" before pressing your lips against his again and smiling into the kiss.

☕ comics
i actually have a nice collection going back at my parents’ house lmao. most of them are full collections in the bound volume form. i cant read them as much as i would like because im poor as hell, but batman is some of my favorite shit! i have some favorite marvel ones, too, particularly from the civil war arc.
i’m not somebody to argue over marvel vs dc. like. life’s too short man. who cares. if i want dark angst i go for dc, if i want a cool adventure i go to marble. its apples and oranges in my eyes
i have some odd favorites. like, i love ‘death in the family’ and the classics like that as much as the next guy, but some of the ones that have really affected me are the really niche ones; for example, one of the comics ive read that haunts me in a weird way is an indie batman storyline that actually doesnt feature batman at all, lmao. it’s called ‘arkham asylum: madness’ and i guess what strikes me about it is how it depicts a sort of all-consuming stress. my other (more mainstream) favorite batman storyline is ‘the court of owls’ and the subsequent spinoff, ‘talon’, which is all around a fucking fantastic romp. i love those comics you can just lose yourself in and read back to back.
as for manga/anime, fullmetal alchemist is my all-time go-to manga. like, my middle school anime phase manga. it means a lot to me, and will always have a really special place in my heart; its such a fucking amazing, emotional adventure. i don’t own the whole series, but i own my favorite volumes. aside from that, i own a lot of junji ito, which makes up most of the manga that i buy/read as an adult. awesome shit.
my favorite anime, if u couldnt tell from my tag on it, is neon genesis evangelion. here’s the thing about that anime: i went out of my way, in high school, to collect every single nge DVD. it’s deadass the only Valuable Collection Of Something i own. i dont have all the movies, but i have all the episodes there, and that’s how i rewatch them. this is something im proud of and do not get to brag about much. i am but a simple man. im glad i got to splurge on that collecting adventure before i became an Adult and had to start spending all my money on things like, you know, food and clothes (the same reason i’ve had to sell off a section of my old comic collection in recent years). 99% of that was funded with money from my first job ever cleaning at a very shitty mcdonalds lmao…..hard earned…..
other random shit i own back at my parents’ house:
-the entire steins;gate series on blu ray (this sounds impressive but its like. 2 disks)
-the entire wolf’s rain series on good old 2007 not-blu ray
-an omnibus of all the silent hill comics (i cant remember if i sold this or not??? hm.)
-an omnibus of all the 30 days of night comics
-a bunch of weird indie comics
-like 20 issues of single wolverine comics that i got at a comic book convention in high school
-that one fucking awesome valve comic collection. i love it so much.
-i mentioned junji ito? last year i was on a school trip in new york, and i bought the entire tomie collection at a hole-in-the-wall japanese bookstore. it’s as thick as a brick, heavy as hell, and i still havent been able to read it all. i’m too scared to bring it with me in my Small Portable University Book Rations for fear of my roommates thinking im gonna murder someone (it has the same problem as the gyo series where like…..that gore is right on the covers so if somebody walks in on u theres no hiding that u were reading about a decomposing fish monster crawling out of the sea to invade tokyo and its awkward). also, it cost as much as three months of my antidepressant/OCD medication. i do not buy things much and therefore consider it worth it.
Send me a ☕️ and a topic and I’ll talk about how I feel about it lol

PSA - Reposting fanworks
Hello all!
So, I'm relatively knew to the fanart community (art blog: @marleywtoons) but this morning I was tagged over on insta in a comment pointing out that this account (see screenshot below) had uploaded a stream of works, one of which included the first fitzsimmons piece i did as well as one by @captainironnerd and others without giving any credit and i can confirm on my end that no permission was sought either (just to clarify also, i am VERY easy going with this AS LONG AS permission is sought and given FIRST).
Now, it may not seem that big of a deal because the user only has an incredibly small following (7 followers as of posting this) which indicates that they are only a newer account but thats not really the point is it!
The point IS is that they did not make this work. They did not spend hours creating, did not spend the time it takes to learn how to create that art. Did not go through the phases of 'beginner' quality to 'okay' quality to 'alright im actually quite proud of this' quality. The artist has done all the ground work for them to swoop in and just take it as if the mere fact they saw it online makes it theirs.
It does not.
Now, sure, there are a lot of accounts that post like this. Ive seen it in many fandoms. They just repost a bunch of related or unrelated content because, well, i guess they want to. Personally i call this the 'shitty' side of fandom. Its filled with ignorance and entitlement. Story time, recently an account had done this (likely still does this) in the stargate fandom. A user like this one posts the exact same way, giving no credit, and when called out they had the nerve to attack the artists! Great way to make a positive impact on the fandom! This user started small too and with regular reposts, they gained more followers.
Now, lastly, i KNOW a majority of fans see this happening and KNOW those accounts are simply reposting. But the things is, only a few will call them out (bless that lot with sunshine and rainbows!). Many will simply like the content and move on. Or others may think its okay to repost...and then do so. All the while the artist gets nothing. No warm fuzzy feelings that come with getting appreciation for THEIR hard work. No, those warm fuzzies are gobbled up by the user who sees that like count go up as well as their followers. Its not fair.
So this has been a little (well, big) psa because, quite honestly, it pisses me off.
Artists of the Aos, HP, marvel, percy jackson, sherlock, and every other fandom: you'll probably find your work on their as well so be advised!
Also, if you see these kind of accounts, call them out and report!

4, X and the MCU
With the Disney/Fox deal expected to close in the first half of 2019, fans are eagerly theorizing what the Marvel Cinematic Universe will do with the Fantastic Four and X-Men characters when they “come home.”
Tumblr media
A stream of statements from Marvel Studios to the effect that they haven’t made any plans for the characters coming over from Fox has fans understandably skeptical. And it is difficult to believe that the architects of one of the most successful modern film brands hasn’t at least run through some “what if” scenarios of how to deploy the significant number of valuable assets soon to come into their hands.
It’s understandable that fans and the entertainment press are eager for some indication of what Marvel Studios will do with the characters. But at present, Disney/Marvel and Fox are bound by regulatory considerations as to what they can say publicly. So until the deal actually closes, expect more of the same non-committal stance whenever Marvel Studios comments at all.
That doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t speculate. For while Marvel Studios surely has a current game plan for their “Phase IV” starting next summer (after Avengers: Endgame), the studio has demonstrated its willingness to shift projects around its planned calendar to take advantage of opportunities. So that even if Marvel currently has a plan in place that doesn’t account for the properties coming over from Fox, that could shift if circumstances warrant.
Of the two, the Fantastic Four would seem closer to actually appearing in a Marvel Studios movie. We’re now a couple years removed from the disastrous attempt to reboot the FF film franchise, which was not just a failure, but an embarrassing failure. And likely a significant mile post on the road to Fox’s decision to sell its movie and TV studios. With that recent bomb, and the tepidly received two-film series from a decade earlier, the FF doesn’t have a very strong cinematic image. Relaunching the characters into the MCU with new actors won’t have to overcome much in the way of fan sentiment.
In reality, the FF themselves are probably not the most immediate win for the MCU. Getting the FF into the MCU fold will clarify several “crossover” properties where both Fox and Marvel arguably had rights to use characters. For example, the upcoming Captain Marvel movie features the alien shapeshifter race the Skrulls. Those aliens were introduced in an early FF story, but have been used extensively across Marvel’s comic book line. Bringing the FF rights back in-house makes the use of Skrulls in the MCU cleaner (especially if, as has been speculated, Captain Marvel will plant the seeds for an adaptation of Marvel’s seminal Secret Invasion saga in the MCU). Other examples of this tidying up abound.
There’s actually a stronger possibility of the Fantastic Four’s number one villain preceding them into the MCU. Doctor Doom is an integral part of the FF mythos, but has also grown to become Marvel’s signature villain, a complex antagonist who has tangled with most of the comic line’s major heroes. Given the MCU’s ongoing issue with creating memorable villains, having Doom available would be a godsend. And a featured Doom appearance could pave the way for the FF to join the MCU, perhaps turning up in a cameo in Doom’s debut. Or even a featured supporting slot, similar to how the MCU introduced Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War before launching him into his own highly successful solo film. The success of its shared cinematic universe gives Marvel options to help ensure that the FF is well positioned to headline its own movies again.
The X-Men’s path into the MCU is more complicated. The X-films predate the MCU and, while critical reaction has been all over the map, the films have mostly been profitable (at least on a global basis). But the decade-hopping conceit put into place starting with X-Men: First Class has basically rendered the franchise’s continuity an unholy hash. Marvel’s not going to deal with that. So in spite of the optimistic comments from some involved in the X-movies, expect the forthcoming Dark Phoenix (which, depending on when the acquisition closes, could actually be released by Disney) to be the swan song for the Fox incarnation of the franchise.
Tumblr media
There is a possibility that some pockets of the current X-movie universe could transfer to the MCU. Don’t look for Wolverine in the guise of Hugh Jackman; the actor has been emphatic that his retirement from the role is a done deal. And the cursed Gambit movie featuring Channing Tatum looks less and less likely to actually get made. But the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool sub-franchise is poised to make the leap. Those two movies have existed on the fringes of the X-movies anyway, they could easily shift into the MCU even if the bulk of the Fox franchise is scrapped. The issue there is whether the gleefully R-rated Deadpool can be a success within the strictures of the MCU’s PG-13 mandate. The recent holiday release of Deadpool 2 recut to get a PG-13 was a trial balloon, but it wasn’t exactly a significant factor at the box office, so that question remains open. But given the profits earned by the two Reynolds-led films, Marvel will be motivated to at least try to work Deadpool into the MCU.
A bigger question is the more-or-less completed New Mutants, not expected to be released until after the Fox acquisition is finalized. Not a lot is known about the movie at this point, other than that it’s tone is more “teen horror” than the typical superhero film. While part of the X-movie universe, it’s believed that it is self-contained enough that, should it prove to be a success, Marvel could import this fringe corner of the Fox franchise into the MCU without too much bother. Since Disney will likely be responsible for the release, it’s unclear if it will be positioned as an MCU movie or not. Even if it’s reasonably successful, Marvel/Disney might choose to walk away and focus their attention on reinvigorating the main X-Men team.
Like the FF, the X-villains might provide a logical entry point for the characters joining the MCU. Key foes such as Mystique and Sabretooth have long-established histories of tangling with non-mutant heroes. And while Juggernaut is closely tied to X-Men continuity, he’s likewise faced off against various heroes outside the X-books. Any could make for viable MCU antagonists.
But the likely key for the X-Men in the MCU will be Wolverine. In the comics, he has strong ties to numerous non-X franchises, serving a long stint as an Avenger and sharing history with key MCU characters like Black Widow and Nick Fury. With Jackman’s retirement from the role, a recast is necessary. It would make sense for Marvel to use the Black Panther blueprint and deploy the new Wolverine in a co-starring role before launching either a solo movie or building a new X-Men franchise around him. And given the MCU’s history of various heroes operating in secret, it probably won’t be that difficult to claim the various mutant characters have been there all along, they’ve just stayed under the radar.
There will be a lot of work to be done to integrate the Fantastic Four and X-Men into the MCU. While many fans are eager to see them as soon as possible, it could be wise for Marvel to move slowly and set the properties up for the same kind of success their existing franchises have enjoyed.

GYBurst of Inspiration/Motivation
Where does inspiration come from? - Snacks I recorded a song with Samuel Hawkins recently and that was the first line of his verse. Lately thats been on my mind more and more. Where does my inspiration come from and why cant I always bask in its motivational energies? Seems that my drive comes and goes with the moon phases or as planets enter and leave our orbit. Could be the skys dictating my moods and movements (which i think it does have an effect) or it could be the mass amount of coffee and tea i drink a day. Definitely important factors but not quite the source. My mom definitely motivates me, she believes in everything Im doing and helps every way that she can. Its not financially but sometimes emotional support is more important. Shouts out to Momma B you the realist. Same for my homies and not homies as in people i force myself to be around, cuz having friends is what you do. Actual family that i grew up with and have developed a relationship with, the GYB family. The ones who sat me down years ago and was like dude...... you need to take this rap shit seriously. The ones who are now getting more and more involved with the movement every day, pushing everything to the side and riding along with my dream and making them their own. Everyday the homies are pushing to help me create this vision for you guys as they've adopted it as their own. Like minds on the prize, Shouts out the Layer homies. That only seems to be half of it tho, and Ive never felt this type of fire burning inside me before so what is it? Magazine drama and BS doesn't motivate me, Music doesn't seem to hit me the same way anymore. I used to listen to music constantly, new rap definitely doesn't do it for me.....makes me feel lower. New tv shows dont do it for me im bored with most of the popular shows out. Same for games or just typical activities that people partake in. Partys, drugs, random hook ups...It all seems so blah to me and im completely uninterested. I learned I have to stop feeding my lower self and focus on my higher self and what that part of my being truly wants and thats to CREATE!!! Whenever im around an environment that drives me to create and push myself i perform better. So i guess i just realized what really inspires me, and thats a creative environment. Who is responsible for this? Well I saw the Rotunda Project last weekend at Maiden Alley, a collaborative piece by Fairseas. The Fairseas are a group of musicians named Jeran Simmons, Bobby Dowell, Codie Franklin and Shanden Simmons. I watched them plant this seed years ago and now its a giant tree that you can sit back and marvel in its greatness. The main theme of the film was collaborating with your community. I cant lie ive had many many thoughts of leaving my community to collaborate elsewhere but ive came to a realization recently that it isnt necessary. To my surprise and probably a lot of people around here, there is a bubbling hip hop scene around here that is about to explode. Ive started to invest my time and efforts into this scene now and received nothing but results. Shanden has been a major influence in my artistry because he is always honest, encouraging and persistent....three very important characteristics to have in a creative environment and on top of that has become one of what i would consider my best friends. I look at him as one of my GYBrothers. On to the hip hop scene around here tho..... mysterious person named "A" aka the Hollow Man and he is one of the most promising producers/writers around. His solo stuff is outstanding and the collaboration effort we are working on "A & B: The Empire" is next level. Its been well over a year in the making and will shock most people when they hear the new styles i bring to the tape compared to my previous work. A always challenges me to be very intelligent when I piece together my verses and I like that. He makes me want to grab a dictionary and start reading so I can match his extensive vocabulary.....and maybe I have done that lol. Im the ONLY artist that the mystery man works with at the moment and that hits me now in a way it never has before. Like why me, do I really have something in my music that would make this beyond talented artist spend his time and efforts to make beats for us to collab on and want to include me in everything he does? His beats are above any producer Ive ever heard even in the big leagues of the rap game its crazy but he will prolly have his own GYBlog entry about him eventually. I have to move on before i make this to long lol. Next is JSkrilla, I have met the Skrilla a few times in passing but i dont think we realized what each other really could offer the other. Until i ran into him at the damn ROTUNDA PROJECT.....back around full circle. After that we decided to get together. We showed each other some of our music. I didnt know he made dope beats as well as spit hot fucking fire but he does. We shared our philosophies for our craft and talked hip hop and all sorts of other randomness. Then we picked a beat and wrote a song on the spot. Bar for bar back and forth. J stressed to me it had been a LONG time since he had been able to just sit down and write with another emcee that wasnt intimidated by his ability to write on the spot, or to match his caliber of wordplay and rhyme schemes. To both mine and his delight I delivered. Skrilla really challenged me tho, most artist get so caught up in the main stream BS or conforming to certain concepts and topics in their verses that it had been a while since I had felt pressure when writing to make sure my bars are up to par. Felt good to feel that energy again i had been missing the want to become better and that leads me to the main cause of my motivation and my improvments or just overall attitude change whatever you want to call it. the TRYBE!!!! Snacks, B. James, and Waun D. are the Cerberus of this rap shit. I have a lot to owe to them. GYB and Trybe share the same values as far as what we hope to contribute to the culture of arts and musics and how we hope to impact the hip hop community as well as the communities we all live in. I have done one show with them and have multiple other ones lined up with them. As a matter a fact i cant see myself doing a show with anyone but them from here on out. Once again them as well as JSkrilla could have their own full length blog entry but i digress for the sake of your attention lol. The Trybe challenges me to be a better emcee by making me freestyle. Which if you have been around me doing music ive never been a good freestyler.....UNTIL NOW!!! They have cracked that shell and brought me out of it. Making me partake in their cyphers everytime we get together. Soon Ill be as smooth off the top as i am with the writtens then its over for everyone! Sharpening my skills is not something that other rappers really push you to do. Rap is very competitive and braggadocios so pushing someone to improve and possible be better than you is unheard of. The Trybe doesnt see it that way though, they want us all to grow together. With a shared love for hip hop and me and Snacks shared love for Anime we can talk for hours and hours before we realize we havent done any music lol. Everytime I hear a new Trybe song i feel my artistry being challenged. The message in their music makes me want to really focus on the concepts i present in my music and start challenging my self to pretty much step my game up. Between Skrilla, "A", and TrYbe, everything new I hear makes me question my latest bars which is exactly what I need. Hip Hop is my life and my love and above any amount of money i can potentially make off this art is the desire to be the best emcee to ever grab a mic and thats the same mindset i had when i originally picked up the pen and decided i would be a rapper. Before i saw 8 mile and realized that being a white rapper wasnt necessarily accepted, before all the laughs, all the hate and just general shade i received for my dreams. Being white in this game is a roadblock but for the first time these guys made me realize that i have overcame that hurdle 100 times over. I had a long talk with the Trybe last night and they gave me a boost of confidence that finally fully ignited that fire i had lit but tried to conceal. Im no longer worried about what is cool or what people want. I just want to create and you will more than likely like it because I do have skills that i myself had been sleeping on. I hear these artist like A, Skrilla, and Trybe and i felt underneath them but now i see my self as an equal. We all have different things we bring to the table that compliment each other and its time to put it all together and make it happen. Plus we all just fucking dope and there is no denying. This is my new goal. No more time wasted on what i "think" is the right move. Im going to follow what i KNOW to be the right path and follow my heart. Thats challenging myself with these artist and like minded individuals to always be better. Also as Snacks has said before "move at LIGHT SPEED" thats just what Ill do with my light brothers here. We like some damn warriors of this rap shit waging war against a evil corrupt entity but thats also for a whole separate entry lol But no war of this caliber is complete without a general so shoutout to SirDuke. Ive also recently became friends with this crazy dude and he has shown me in just the short time ive known him more love and support than some people ive known my whole life. He also inspires me because he has dedicated his life to serve and protect (literally) and most importantly LEAD. He has an army of pretty much every hood and every rapper in each of them just waiting for his call. and he is not leading them astray, Shoutout the Kollektiv. Duke is also a talented singer and emcee. He has a show with me tomorrow at the Hangover in Murray MAKE SURE YOU COME TO THAT AND SEE MY NEW ALBUM CONSCIOUS TRAP PERFORMED LIVE starting at 9pm. but yeah Duke is dope and I can appreciate his leadership skills and what he hopes to accomplish in his community by cleaning it up through music. He is rubbing off on my and motivating me to hold that same position with my Layer army of GYB homies ive assembled. Most of them are clueless about the industry and music so its up to me to guide and lead them so they can be their own selves and make it in this world without the middle man down your neck. Im going to wrap this up because it ended up being way longer than i intended but i wanted to also say to my fellow collaborators and friends above all. Wolf, Golden Wrist Banks, Trevell, Dope, Simple, Benji and Angel Mascato. You guys have MAD SKILLS. You guys inspire me too because I hear something different in your music than i hear from most. I want you all to continue to grow and expand your creativity to new levels. Tell YOUR story. The same story is constantly told but how will you tell YOURS in the true challenge. So i encourage you guys like i have been recently, step outside of the norm and do what you truly feel in your heart that you need to, fuck what everyone else wants from you just create the way you feel appropriate. A lot of you are working with Duke regularly and I think he will tell you the same thing I am now. Even if its certain people in your lives holding you back, they gotta go. Surround yourself with positive people that want to grow with you instead of out grow you and you will see the same results. Probably why you guys were all on my latest album, except Trevell im sorry and you should have been but you know the deal homie its all love. Frank.....dammit man just rap lol but anyways ill end it on this note. Getting in touch with that child like mind state and that pureness of love in my heart again. Losing all my intentions to want to be better and out do someone but rather COLLABORATE with like minds in my community has already in return pushed me forward in a lot of ways. Seems almost as if they had been waiting on me this whole time. Its certain that my actions are now speaking louder than my words and everyone is starting to catch on. including myself finally. If you read this far thank you and I love you. Youre more than likely part of the reason why i typed this or why i even continue to do what i do. I trust you guys just as much as you trust ill deliver. Have a great day, maybe you can draw inspiration from this or some of the same people or things that i do! So put down that magazine full of empty content and read something meaningful that you are interested in, turn off the news and watch some anime, stop playing shooter games and play final fantasy, stop eating out and prepare your own meals, dont listen to music just play instrumentals and freestlye every day or just make your own, quit scrolling on facebook and take a stroll around the block, only spend time with those that help you grow rather than keep you low. So much inspiration out there sometimes we just have to break away from what we are used to in order to pull from the experience. Now im really done. and excuse my poor grammer and probably a shit load of spelling errors. That wont ever change, these blog post are run on sentences of my thoughts that pass through my head every day. Sometimes i just take the time to jot them out as they pass. PEACE LOVE AND GYB!!

New Post has been published on https://kestreldigitalmedia.com/blog/disney-apple-tv-and-netflix-can-coexist-for-now
Disney+, Apple TV+ and Netflix can coexist—for now
Disney+ launches on Tuesday with extremely high expectations. The service was first announced along with ESPN+ on an earnings call in August 2017 (but not publicly named until 2018), an announcement that CEO Bob Iger, in his new book, says “marked the beginning of the reinvention of the Walt Disney Company… In essence, we were now hastening the disruption of our own businesses, and the short-term losses were going to be significant.”
Many of the headlines since then have pitted Disney+, Apple TV+, and Netflix in a dramatic three-way streaming fight.
But most analysts and surveys say that the success of Disney+ and Apple TV+ are not mutually exclusive, and that all three big-name services can do well—at least for a time.
For starters, all three streaming apps have very different content strategies.
Small array of originals vs. kitchen-sink

More
Disney+ and Apple TV+ launched in the same month, but that’s about all they have in common. Apple TV+ launched with just seven shows, all of them originals, including “The Morning Show,” “See” and “Dickinson.” It’s a premium approach: a handful of expensive shows (“The Morning Show” budget was reportedly $15 million per episode) with big names, and Apple (AAPL) wisely priced it super-cheap ($4.99 a month) to make it practically an impulse purchase if you’re interested in one or two of the shows. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives called the $4.99 price tag a “shocker” that “we loudly applaud.” Wall Street had initially been expecting a price in the $7.99 to $9.99 range.
Apple TV+ is easily the least expensive streaming option, but Hulu and Disney aren’t far behind. (Image: David Foster)
More
In contrast, Disney+ and Netflix (NFLX) both have kitchen-sink approaches to content, but even those differ from each other because all of Disney’s (DIS) content is Disney-owned, while a lot of what is on Netflix is licensed content that Netflix pays to host. (Netflix originals reportedly contribute less than 30% of viewing time on Netflix.)
The vast library of content on Disney+ is staggering—from Disney Animation to Pixar to Marvel to Lucasfilm to National Geographic, including old classic Disney movies and brand new original shows and movies—but it is all family-friendly, which fits Disney’s brand. Marvel’s last couple “Avengers” movies are about as adult as the Disney+ content gets. (Separately, Disney plans to move all FX shows to Hulu, which brands Hulu as Disney’s more adult streaming app, and sufficiently differentiated from Disney+.) Disney+ is priced at $6.99 a month, which puts it between Apple TV+ ($4.99) and Netflix ($12.99). Disney as of June was aiming for 30 million subscribers for Disney+ by 2024, and has since hiked that way up to a range of 60 million to 90 million subs by 2024.
Like Apple, Disney is also spending big on originals: $25 million per episode on some of the original Marvel shows, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Due to its direct-to-consumer investments, Disney’s profit in Q4 2019 of $1.07 per share was down 28% from the year before. It will take years for Apple TV+ and Disney+ to be profitable.
Story continues
Adding more subs before the cutting comes
Both Apple TV+ and Disney+ are giving their service away to some consumers as a way to boost total subscribers right at launch. Apple is offering one year of Apple TV+ to anyone who purchases a new Apple device (iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac or Apple TV), and Disney signed a pact with Verizon (Yahoo’s parent company) to give one year of Disney+ to all Verizon Wireless Unlimited customers. Thanks to Apple’s install base and Verizon’s customer base, both services can scale quickly.
And then there’s Netflix. Despite all that is on Disney+ it cannot yet match Netflix for sheer volume of content on the platform. Instead, Disney+ is a quality play. (So is Apple TV+, though its shows have received very mixed reviews so far.) Netflix has had some U.S. subscriber attrition recently, but it is still the established streaming king with 150 million global subscribers.
“With an installed base of ~900 million active iPhones worldwide, we believe Apple has an opportunity to gain 100 million consumers on the streaming front in the next 3-4 years,” writes Wedbush analyst Ives. “Disney on the other hand has a whole other strategy, as the company has a content library that is unmatched, with loyal built within the installed base globally.”
In other words, both Apple TV+ and Disney+ can grow without being mutually exclusive, and also without necessarily hurting Netflix—though of the two, Disney+ is certainly the bigger threat to Netflix.
Because the content on each app is so different, and because the pricing arguably fits the volume of content each has, these three apps are unlikely to cannibalize each other—for now.
Recent surveys suggest that Americans are still not at “peak” streaming, the point where they begin cutting OTT subscriptions. For the time being, they are willing to add more to their plate. Deloitte projects that by the end of 2020, half of adults in developed countries will pay for at least four digital subscriptions, and 20% of adults will be paying for 10.
Wedbush agrees: “In a nutshell, we believe there is room for consumers to add 1-2 more streaming services onto their entertainment monthly budgets as the cord cutting theme further takes hold into 2020 with both Apple and Disney in a strong position,” Ives writes.
That’s encouraging not just for Apple, Disney, and Netflix, but for some of the many, many other streaming apps already out there and launching soon: Disney’s Hulu; NBC’s Peacock; HBO Max; Sinclair’s STIRR; and Discovery’s forthcoming offering, just to name a few.

For the week of 30 September 2019
Quick Bits:
Absolute Carnage: The Immortal Hulk #1 is an absolute must if you’re reading The Immortal Hulk, even if you’re not following Absolute Carnage. Though it does deal with how Hulk is working with the rest of the gang in the event, here Al Ewing, Felipe Andrade, Chris O’Halloran, and Travis Lanham elaborate on how Bruce’s alters work, including an appearance from a much-missed old friend, and deals with some ongoing plot points like Betty’s change, Ross’ status, and Jones’ recuperation.

Batman #80 starts the turn for the “City of Bane” arc as John Romita Jr., Klaus Janson, and Tomeu Morey come aboard for the art duties, and Batman and Catwoman return to Gotham. I really like the stylization here, it fits the overall shift in direction and it’s just nice to see Romita and Janson back together.

Tumblr media
Berserker Unbound #3 is another brilliant issue of this series from Jeff Lemire, Mike Deodato Jr., Frank Martin, and Steve Wands. This one gets to the heart of the existential crisis that the Mongrel King is having in a time that neither he understands or understands him. Though, there are some nice attempts at communication and some great character moments.

Birthright #40 is pretty huge as it essentially rounds out the current Mastema arc. Joshua Williamson, Andrei Bressan, Adriano Lucas, and Pat Brosseau make a pretty dramatic turn here, with some interesting ramifications.

Black Cat #5 delivers a fairly funny conclusion to this heist as Felicia and her crew have to overcome Blastaar. Jed MacKay, Travel Foreman, Brian Reber, and Ferran Delgado are consistently giving us an entertaining and compelling story here with an ongoing narrative broken into discrete, separate pieces that can ultimately be enjoyed on their own.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Black Terror #1 features a rather unique take on the character, and on superheroics in general, from Max Bemis, Matt Gaudio, Brittany Pezzillo, and Taylor Esposito. This explores what happens when the Black Terror hangs up his boots, self-medicates for his problems, and begins to suffer withdrawal from the superhero business. It’s all rather...disturbing, but still entertaining.

Breaklands #2 starts building up the cast as Kasa falls in with a number of other people to help and rescue her brother. Though there are elements of familiar post-apocalypse narratives here, what Justin Jordan, Tyasseta, Sarah Stern, and Rachel Deering are creating here feels incredibly fresh and different.
| Published by Justin Jordan
Tumblr media
Canto #5 is fairly action-packed as Canto and crew bring the fight to the Furies. It’s a different change of pace here, but we still get some intriguing symbolism and advancement of the fable narrative in rather inventive ways. David M. Booher, Drew Zucker, Vittorio Astone, and Deron Bennett are driving us towards the end here and I feel like it’s going to be a big one.

Tumblr media
Contagion #1 is probably going to get some comparisons to Marvel Zombies and DCeased, running through similar horror territories, but it doesn’t really matter. While the elements may familiar, it’s still an entertaining start to this series from Ed Brisson, Rogê Antônio, Veronica Gandini, and Cory Petit.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Copra #1 begins a second volume of Michael Fiffe’s previously self-published series, dropping us into the middle of action, picking up where the last series left off. While it is at least initially a bit confusing, Fiffe does include plenty of information, including an issue-by-issue breakdown of the previous series, to get people up to speed. It’s basically ‘80s-inspired superheroics.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Daredevil #12 is more magnificence. Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, Nolan Woodard, and Clayton Cowles continue “Through Fear” as Matt has an...unfortunate confrontation with crooked cops beating up a Daredevil stand-in and Fisk has a meeting with the rich “elite”. I really quite like the parallels of both of them falling back on old/new tricks.

Tumblr media
Dark Ark: After the Flood #1 begins the very welcome next chapter in this story from Cullen Bunn, Juan Doe, and Dave Sharpe, picking up on what’s been going on after landfall. There’s also some really interesting revelations about Kahlee’s past.
| Published by AfterShock
Tumblr media
DCeased #5 is the big penultimate issue, giving us hope as two sanctuaries are established. And then... Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Stefano Gaudiano, Rain Beredo, and Saida Temofonte give us another chilling story here with some very heartbreaking moments.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Die #8 keeps the pressure on, Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, and Clayton Cowles continuing to hammer at your emotions as they explore the party even further. This one gives us a bit of a deeper look into our Grief Knight, Matt, and it’s amazing that the bleakness is almost oppressive.

Doctor Strange #20 is kind of a bizarre end to this series as it transitions over to Doctor Strange, Surgeon Supreme later this year. As he searches out ways to implement his newly recovered dexterity, Strange teams-up with Kanna for what feels like one last adventure with her, against the nefarious Cyb(not equal)rdSmPhp (seriously, those symbols may “look” like Cyberdemon, but that’s not what it means) and his master. Great art from Javier Pina and Brian Reber.

Tumblr media
Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds #4 is another weird one as the team travels to Destiny Beach and Flex Mentallo runs into his old crew. Gerard Way, Jeremy Lambert, Nick Pitarra, Tamra Bonvillain, and Simon Bowland give us an interesting tale of magical muscle mystery here as they try to bring magic back to the beach.
| Published by DC Comics / Young Animal
Tumblr media
Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish #3 gets to the heart of what caused Rayonde to turn in the future and shows what changed between the party. It gets pretty dark as the “darkened wish” plays out. Gorgeous artwork from Tess Fowler and Jay Fotos.

Tumblr media
Everything #2 keeps building the mystery of this story, layering on even more strange events and deaths that keep you guessing. Christopher Cantwell, INJ Culbard, and Steve Wands are crafting a weird horror story here that’s rather unique. There are elements here that feel like Twin Peaks and Fargo, mixed with Vertigo, Love & Rockets, Stray Bullets, and the works of Daniel Clowes and Charles Burns, but at the same time something wholly its own.
| Published by Dark Horse / Berger Books
Tumblr media
Fantastic Four #15 introduces us to Unparalleled, the heroes of the planet Spyre, in this second part of “Point of Origin”. Dan Slott, Paco Medina, Bob Quinn, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Caramagna give us an interesting take on the Fantastic Four here as invading alien monsters, complete with monster dialogue, and it’s neat to see them from a different perspective.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Forgotten Home #1 is a new digital Comixology Original from Erica Schultz, Marika Cresta, Matt Emmons, and Cardinal Rae. It’s a very nice mix of magic and police procedural, hinging on a vast missing persons case, and family drama.
| Published by Vices Press
Tumblr media
Ghost Rider #1 is a spot on return for Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch, picking up on the recent rumblings throughout the Marvel Universe (though exactly how it fits in with Robbie Reyes and Avengers is yet to be seen), and veering off into wildly interesting new directions. Ed Brisson, Aaron Kuder, Jason Keith, and Joe Caramagna deliver a first issue that should have old school (and oldish new school, I mean Ketch is a 30 year old character now) fans delighted. Even as Danny’s life is a bit of a mess right now.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
The Green Lantern #12 is the fairly impressive “season finale” to this series from Grant Morrison, Liam Sharp, Steve Oliff, and Tom Orzechowski before we get a three-month break with Blackstars and then the start of season 2 next year. Some very big revelations here as we find out what all of the disparate parts of this story have been amounting to. It’s interesting as to how epic all of this feels.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey #1 puts a big goofy grin on my face. Aside from blips here and there and the Grendel vs. The Shadow mini-series featuring the original Grendel, Hunter Rose, it’s been almost two decades since we saw the ongoing adventures set in this universe, even longer a story written and illustrated by Matt Wagner (the last one part of canon, Past Prime, was a novel written by Greg Rucka with spot illustrations by Wagner). Like the recent third chapter to Mage, this is a very welcome return. Matt Wagner, Brennan Wagner, and Dave Lanphear take us in an entirely new direction as Grendel Prime is tasked to find humanity a new home.
| Published by Dark Horse
Tumblr media
Immortal Hulk #24 closes out the confrontation with Fortean and looks like it’s setting up the next phase for this series (in a two-fold way, both in the immediate future and in the far-flung end of the universe). Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy José, Belardino Brabo, Marc Deering, Roberto Poggi, Paul Mounts, and Cory Petit continue to work wonders on this series. This issue is horrifying. And perfect.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Joe Golem: Occult Detective - The Conjurors #5 concludes this chapter from Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, Peter Bergting, Michelle Madsen, and Clem Robins. There’s some very nice Lovecraftian fun here and an ending that sets to fully cap off the upheaval of this series’ status quo.
| Published by Dark Horse
Tumblr media
Justice League #33 escalates the “Justice/Doom War” from Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Bruno Redondo, Daniel Sampere, Juan Albarran, Hi-Fi, and Tom Napolitano. The various factions of the League are still fighting across time as Perpetua’s lock on power is looking even more certain. The tension throughout this story is incredible.
| Published DC Comics
Tumblr media
Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium #2 concludes this trek through DC’s future history, stopping in to check on Booster Gold and OMAC, before getting to the main event with the Legion of Super-Heroes themselves. I really hope that the futures seeded here are followed up on. Gorgeous artwork throughout from Nicola Scott, Jim Cheung, rare interior art from Jeff Dekal, leading to Ryan Sook’s Legion.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Lois Lane #4 continues to move at a fairly slow pace, but it’s allowing for some great character moments like Jon discussing going off to join the Legion and Vic and Renee trying to piece together continuity that doesn’t exist any more. The art from Mike Perkins and Paul Mounts is still worth picking up this series for alone.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Mountainhead #2 turns things up a notch as everything just gets stranger and a bit more extreme. That odd, not-quite-right atmosphere is perfectly captured by the artwork from Ryan Lee and Doug Garbark.
| Published by IDW
Tumblr media
The Necromancer’s Map #2 concludes the bit with the Void Sickness, with some fairly interesting reveals, and throws in some tragic romance while it’s at it. I really quite like how this is pacing along, weaving through details and side bits, while developing Bethany’s larger quest. Beautiful art from Sam Beck and Ellie Wright.
| Published by Vault
Tumblr media
No One Left to Fight #4 is stunning. Fico Ossio is delivering the most beautiful art in his career. I mean, just look at it. It’s freaking gorgeous. It also helps that the story from him, Aubrey Sitterson, and Taylor Esposito continues to be incredibly captivating. As we get more old friends and the set up of an old villain’s return.
| Published by Dark Horse
Tumblr media
Promethee 13:13 #2 continues this excellent prequel series from Andy Diggle, Shawn Martinbrough, Dave Stewart, and Simon Bowland. The implementation of the conspiracy aspect of the invasion is wonderful to see as the seeds of what’s to come are brought to bear. Gorgeous artwork from Martinbrough and Stewart.
| Published by Delcourt / Soleil
Tumblr media
Red Sonja #9 sees Sonja seek out other allies in her quest to defeat Dragan in the form of some rather nasty sorcerers. Mark Russell, Bob Q, Dearbhla Kelly, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou deliver another entertaining chapter here, full of magic and more deceit, that certainly makes things a little bleaker.
| Published by Dynamite
Tumblr media
Ruby Falls #1 is a wonderful debut from Ann Nocenti, Flavia Biondi, Lee Loughridge, and Sal Cipriano. This first issue introduces us to Lana, her rather unique dysfunctional family, and the backdrop of the tiny former mining town of Ruby Falls. There’s a mix of fallible memories and a criminal past for the town wanting to be forgotten that is very compelling.
| Published by Dark Horse / Berger Books
Tumblr media
Savage Avengers #6 continues Conan’s trek as he and Frank Castle travel across the Savage Land and through ordinary Antarctica, as they try to bring Frank’s family back to America. Gerry Duggan, Kim Jacinto, Tamra Bonvillain, and Travis Lanham deliver a fairly interesting story here, transitional, but still an interesting look at the similarities between Conan and Frank.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Sea of Stars #4 gives us hints of possibly what happened to Kadyn in order to make him the way that he is, while his father fights for his life on another hostile alien planet. I really quite like how Jason Aaron, Dennis Hallum, Stephen Green, Rico Renzi, and Jared K. Fletcher have been progressing this story, building up the characters, and letting explanations out slowly in what feels like a natural progression.

Tumblr media
Seven Days #1 kicks off this event series from Gail Simone, José Luís, Jonas Trinidade, Michelle Madsen, and Saida Temofonte in grand fashion, developing a new threat to the world behind the “event” that kicked off everyone’s powers and transformation. We get a nice team-up of luminaries Noble, Summit, and Accell before everything goes to hell.
| Published by Lion Forge / Catalyst Prime
Tumblr media
Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader’s Castle #1 is a welcome return of this Halloween anthology series featuring chillers, thrillers, and horrors around the Star Wars Universe. There’s a framing story illustrated by Francesco Francavilla that sets up the theme and reintroduces a character from the first volume, and a central tale illustrated by Megan Levens and Charlie Kirchoff dealing with post Phantom Menace Maul. Both written and letter by Cavan Scott and AndWorld Design respectively. I quite like this format and these stories are highly entertaining.

Strange Skies over East Berlin #1 is a riveting beginning from Jeff Loveness, Lisandro Estherren, Patricio Delpeche, and Steve Wands. It starts off behind the Iron Curtain in the heart of Cold War era Germany, with all of the tension and distrust of Russian-controlled East Germany, and it’s ratcheted up higher as a strange light appears as something crashes behind the Wall. The atmosphere is made even more surreal by the almost impressionistic art from Estherren and Delpeche. A great start to this series.

Young Justice #9 continues the team’s confrontation with their evil Earth-3 counterparts, but also gives us a look at Teen Lantern’s origins. André Lima Araújo’s line art during these sequences is worth it alone, but overall I like how Brian Michael Bendis incorporates this into the overall narrative structure.
