You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose at you looked at the envelope in your hands. Your mother made a habit of charming her letters to read allowed to you once they’ve opened and you just weren’t in the mood to hear what you were sure was only ridicule and critique about how disappointed you were making her. Your parent’s expectations were high to say the least. You thanked Merlin for your sorting into Slytherin, hoping that keeping that legacy would at least have them showing some sort of affection, but alas you were given a letter listing more expectations now that you’ve met a previous one.

You swallowed, finally getting the courage to tear the seal. As soon as it was broken the letter finished opening on its own, folding into a pair of disapproving lips that strongly resembled your mum. You closed your eyes, ready to bar the message. “Y/n…hope you’re doing well,” your mother’s voice rang through the room as you rolled your eyes. “Your father and I got your most recent marks. We were disappointed to see you let that mudblood best you yet again, it really would be nice if you put in some effort with your studies.” You groaned, rubbing your hands over your face. You were second in your class, only behind Hermione Granger who, very obviously, was the smartest witch to come out of your generation. She was actually a sweet girl, and your mother’s use of the derogatory term turned your stomach.

You had hoped that was the gist of the letter, but your mother’s voice continued, “Your father and I also received the latest Hogwarts Herald. The photo they used of you from the last quidditch match really was awful, seems like you’ve quite a bit…larger than when you left this fall. Please remember to pace yourself at meals, chew at least twenty times before you swallow. It’ll trick your mind to think you’re fully, trust me. You’ll thank me for it later. Also, please remember to pack your nicer clothing when you come home for Holiday. You know how important those parties are for your father.” With that the letter floated down to your desk, reverting back to a simple piece of parchment.

You let out a shuttered breath, not even aware you were holding it in. Your eyes brimming with tears. “Y/n/n…” you turn your head at the sound of Mattheo’s voice, wiping your eyes with the back of your hand before standing up, trying to compose yourself. “Oh, hey Teo, what’s up?” He looked at you with sad eyes, “Was that your mum?” You nodded, putting on a smile the best you could, “Yeah, she’s, erm, just really passionate about her beliefs. No big deal, how much, uh, how much did you happen to hear?” Mattheo walked closer to you, “Heard that she wants you to starve yourself, why on earth would she say something like that?”

He went to place his hands on your hips, but you pushed them away. You walked over to your bed, sitting on the edge. Mattheo turned in his spot, “You know what she says isn’t true, don’t you, love?” You shrugged your shoulders, unsure of yourself. “Princess, you are so absolutely breathtaking. You are so strong, one of the toughest beaters I know, you’re the reason we won the last five games, that’s why they took that photo of you.” He was standing in front of you now, holding your hands in his. He brought one up to his lips, kissing your palm, then the inside of your wrist before guiding you to wrap your hand around his neck. “Every curve of your body,” his hands roaming up your sides now, “Merlin, I’m so obsessed with you.” His forehead rested against yours, noses brushing, “Don’t listen to her cruel words, because if I had it my way I’d worship you, every part of you, every night, every day.” He tilted your chin up, connecting his lips to yours. The kiss was soft, gentle, like he was breathing you in. He broke apart, a little sooner than you would have liked. He then walked around, climbing onto the bed behind you, “C’mere, let’s lay down. I wanna keep telling you how perfect you are.” His arms stretched out and you immediately climbed into his embrace. You spent the rest of the night like that, wrapped in his arms.

Have you been thinking that there's a real lack of hopeless strangers on your dash asking for help lately? ☆Congratulations, I have arrived!☆

I feel obligated to a certain level of jesterdom while doing this, like perhaps I can earn my keep by entertaining people. It's bleak and humiliating, but we're gonna Have Fun With It! :D This is perhaps more a note to make to self and to a therapist rather than note here, but it segues well into the important point of:

I'm currently stuck in a weird position, both physically and situationally, because I have some sciatica scoliosis spinal bone spur nonsense that decided that now was its time to shine. I'm in pain all the time at every angle and position, so I'm not doing Great?

I'm in the middle of the process of filing for disability and if you've ever applied for a job and been frustrated that you gave them all of your information and then the application asked you to give them the same information all over again, applying for disability is like doing that, but times 40, and with information you don't have memorized the way you have your phone number and home address. They also insist on doing it through the mail. My next step is to be evaluated by some kind of impartial physician. My appointments are in mid to late July. I am unsure what they want me to do with myself until that time.

The work I'm trying to do is not enough. I'm making buttons like crazy but in the end they are just buttons and they sell for 2 to $4 and so you really need to be someone who is absolutely psyched about buttons and buys 40 of them or I need to tap into a market that is Larger in order for this to be reliably sustaining. I do not know what that market is. I was the weird kid in school - what is popular, I don't know, I was never meant to know, it is a mystery.

Do not get me wrong, I am currently holding my face above water because of some really enthusiastic fans of buttons.

But I can't sell a month's rent worth of buttons. I don't even think I have the supplies to make that many.

My rent is USD$670, which is hiked up an extra $70 from where it was last year because my landlord wanted to bleed me dry while the world is on fire. Despite how poorly insulated and badly maintained this house is as a structure, I do enjoy having even a badly insulated roof and a place to put all my shit.

If you don't, then hey, I'm another artist in crippling pain on your dash hoping people in better situations than I can help out. I would love to cover my rent to remove that anxiety for myself for another month, but Every Bill keeps happening, so more beyond that it going to my electric which hasn't been paid since February, and my internet which will keep me afloat in nearly every way possible. I'm also almost at the bottom of the bag of Science Diet food that keeps my beloved cat, Onyx, healthy. I do not know how best to keep a ticker tape of a goal, because there isn't one? I need to survive until at least July. It's June 17th as I write this. Two months rent and some cat food? Don't know, I'm five minutes from a phone call which will determine if they will still allow me food stamps.

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx delivered its precious cargo to Earth on September 24th, 2023. The sample from asteroid Bennu is contained inside the spacecraft’s sampling head, and it’s in safe hands at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Two stubborn fasteners delayed the opening of the sampling head, but they’ve been removed, and now we can see inside. What looks like unremarkable dirt is primordial asteroidal material that’s billions of years old, a natural treasure trove that eager scientists can’t wait to begin studying. The head and its sample are in the hands of the astromaterials curation team at Johnson Space Center. On January 10th, they opened the Touch-and-Go-Sample-Acquisition-Mechanism (TAGSAM.) The leading image shows what greeted them. The sample material includes dust and rocks up to about .4 in (one cm) in size. Credit: NASA/Erika Blumenfeld & Joseph Aebersold The next step is to remove the round metal collar and place the sample into trays. Each tray will be photographed, weighed, packaged, and stored. The final mass will be determined in the weeks ahead, including the 70.3 grams (2.48 oz) removed previously. That material was on the sampling machinery but outside of the capsule. OSIRIS-REx’s goal was to return 60 grams of material, so it’s already exceeded that amount. The curation team will catalogue all of the samples later this year. Bennu is a carbonaceous asteroid, a primitive chunk of rock that forms a link to the past when the rocky planets were forming. Scientists have already found carbon and water in the previously removed material. In fact, according to initial analysis, its carbon concentration is close to 5%. That’s among the highest non-terrestrial carbon percentages ever measured. “The OSIRIS-REx sample is the biggest carbon-rich asteroid sample ever delivered to Earth and will help scientists investigate the origins of life on our own planet for generations to come,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson at the time. Once scientists get their hands on more of the material, they’ll doubtlessly find other interesting components. Maybe even some of life’s building blocks, like amino acids. Bennu’s water and carbon content could indicate that life’s building blocks originated in asteroids like Bennu. The sample also gives researchers an opportunity to test their findings against previous observations of Bennu. Astronomers studied the asteroid’s composition with OSIRIS-REx’s instruments as it approached Bennu, and the samples will tell them how accurate their efforts were. If that’s true, then it’s a window into the distant past when only the solar nebula and the proto-Sun existed. It may contain insights into how everything formed, including the Sun. Bennu may also be one of the remaining pieces of a much larger body. Scientists think that the parent body broke apart between 700 million and two billion years ago. Scientists hope to learn more from the Bennu sample about its parent body and how Bennu migrated to the inner Solar System. In a notable act of foresight, 75% of the sample will be stored for the future. Instruments and analysis techniques will only improve over time, and these pristine samples will be available when they do. NASA has done the same with other materials like lunar samples, and it’s paid off. The Bennu samples can only enhance our understanding of our Solar System and how everything came to be. From its ancient early beginnings in the solar nebula to its present-day location in the inner Solar System, Bennu is a well-travelled message-bearer. The best sports bra you don't know about yet!

The search for a sports bra can be a daunting one. Just as each body is uniquely different, so is each person’s wish list of features. For me the search for the perfect sports bras has been a journey, actually a quest to find a combination of features that to me seem basic and classic. Currently I have 4 of the exact same bra meeting my needs but they are all wearing out as they are over 10 years old. My check list doesn’t seem outlandish and yet there are very few contenders that I could even find. Here are my seemingly basic requirements, ok maybe i'm a bit particular:

Color, has to be black. It's classic, goes with everything and hides the dirt, need I say more?

Versatile, I'm going to use this for all the different activities I dabble in, skiing, running, hiking, backpacking, yoga, working out, lifting weight. These are just my outdoor active hobbies.

Functional, this bra has to be able to perform and look good under clothing, my Alpine Fit clothing to be specific, because of course I'm wearing a Rendezvous long sleeve or Ridgeline Racerback Tank for all my previously listed activities. There are going to be times that I wear just a sports bra, but that's not most of the time. While I love the aesthetics of straps everywhere, they just don’t work for the versatility that I need. Of course the most important part of a functioning piece of adventure clothing is fit!

Simple and basic racerback design that isn’t too long. I'm a petite woman and I don’t need a sports bra down around my belly button! It's not the look for me.

Padding, let's talk padding…Look I want some padding, actually require some padding. Its what

makes me feel confident and good in a sports bra and damn it! I should be able to feel that without a removable cup! It can’t just be me that despises a removable cup. Those things

that float around all willy-nilly and are always folded and never even with the other side. It’s not the only way to have padding. In fact it's the lazy way, trying to serve multiple different requirements with a half measure that doesn’t please anyone fully.

Finally in an ideal world, my dream sport bra would also be made in the USA with domestically produced materials.

The Alta medium impact lined black in a small medium from Lume Six is what I ordered. Learning more about what Lume Six is doing just increased my love for them. On top of the extended sizing, they are offering sizing options within one product. They have their standard sizing and in addition you can choose different band and cup sizing. This stands out in the world of apparel companies. It means you have to have a bigger product offering and carry more inventory. Which is an intentional choice since it is costly for a company to have a larger range of sizes. For the end customer like me in this case it means there are more options to find something that feels good and fits well. This not only resonates with me personally but also with Alpine Fit teams since we do the same with our two different fit options of body sizes.

That Alta shockling meets most of my criteria and the most important ones. It's not made in the USA of domestic materials and it's a high price point. Not sure if i’ll be able to replace all 4 sports bras in one go. Lume Six is a new company just starting out. They could check all of my boxes some day. I look forward to seeing what they do. For now i'm thrilled with they are doing.

Holy Family with Saints Anne and John the Baptist

An oil on canvas painting, The Holy Family with Saints Anne and John the Baptist by Domenico Tintoretto was completed circa 1590s. Its unframed rectangular dimensions are 60 1/8 inches high by 52 1/4 inches in width. The painting encompasses a variety of dark and bright velvety schemes of saturated colors, primarily blues and indigos in the darker areas with the bright yellows and subtle yellows for skin tones used in the lighter areas. This provides a level of contrast against the unity provided with perfect circle shapes used in different proportions that assist in the asymmetrical balance of the piece. The darker shadows and shading around the figure in the upper right, presumably that of Joseph, are countered and balanced by the brighter touches above Saint Anne. This draws one into the brighter center of the painting, converging on the main subjects of Mary, the Christ child and a young John the Baptist in the foreground. Scale and proportion is a central theme with Mary and the Christ child appearing somewhat larger than the other figures as a means by Tintoretto to show their importance.

This painting rekindles the things I grew up with that were centered on religion. The Christ child displayed here was a key and central theme in my early life and still is today. When I first saw this painting, I felt it captured the joy and happiness I felt in my youth in relation to the importance of Christ. The colors and focus used by Tintoretto highlight Saint Anne and John the Baptist, who were key players in the Christ’s life, but do not overshadow the central theme which is Mary and the Christ child.

The work was produced during the late Renaissance and was heavily influenced by the Tintoretto families respect for their religious beliefs. Much of Domenico’s style was developed under the guidance of his father, Jacopo Tintoretto. Due to its refined manner and highly polished style, it is believed to have been commissioned by venetian nobility, though no specific name could be determined. The piece captures a clear message of the importance of the Christ child and Tintoretto did a superb job in his depiction of the theme.

This painting was significant at that time in that it reinforced the religious theme prevalent during the Renaissance. Though this theme was previously depicted in works by other artists, this work captured the religious subject in a polished style, fit for nobility, unlike in previous works that used broad brushstrokes and impasto. The true testament to this fact is that it survived over 700 years and is to this day revered as a classic depiction of the Holy Family.
