So funny to me that Ted, speaking to Trent, goes "yes sir" and then "no ma'am" within the same phrase

When you're so knee deep in greek mythology that you correct your architecture history professor when she tells you that the Pergamon Altar was used as a human sacrifice site for young girls being sacrificed in the honor of Zeus. I remember being so nervous when I did it but then she smiled at me and said she appreciated the information.I remembered I did this in my first year of uni, little ol freshman me.
And now I wanna to go into a little bit about human sacrifice in Hellenistic religion.
Starting with the myth of King Lycaon who tried to feed the gods his son after he murdered and cooked him. Zeus was enraged and as punishment turned him into a wolf. I did a bit of research and there seems to be evidence in mount Lykaion of human sacrifice in the altar of Zeus (not the one of pergamon, there's no evidence of human sacrifice being performed there) but it is still unsupported as it seems.
We get information about practices relating to human sacrifice from the character of Iphigenia. Her father Agamemnon tried to sacrifice her to Artemis to quell her rage after he killed her sacred deer. Artemis stopped the winds that would help his ships sail to Illion (Troy) for the Trojan war and in guise of marrying her to Achilles he calls her and her mother Clytemnestra to the Achean camp. One thing leads to another and Iphigenia accepts this sacrifice and takes her place at the altar where she's left for Artemis. The goddess wisks the girl away and brings her to her temple in Tauride.
The temple of Artemis in Tauride is the only place mentioned in greek mythology and plays as a somewhat confirmed site of human sacrifice. However it is not within Greek lands. The practice is further described by Euripides as 'barbarian', a term that they used to describe 'uncivilized' practices and the residents of that place were considered as foes from Orestes and his friend who were sent there by Athena to retrieve the statue of Artemis and bring it to Athens. Artemis Tauropolis the goddess of that shrine. Artemis in general is the opposite of what one would think about the women of the Hellenistic period. She's wild, untammed, a huntress and swore celibacy for life. She's only accompanied by her band of nymphs and her sacred animals. She's the protectress of young girls. These ideas coupled with the fact that she is one of the only gods of the pantheon that have an aspect to them that is linked to human sacrifice makes sense to me.
The only other god that has human sacrifice in his mythos is Dionysus by the maenads. The maenads that rip Orpheus apart, rip animals apart with their bare hands and chase a man in a frenzy with murderous intent. Maenads were also viewed as wild women, unlike what the Hellenistic woman should be. They were said to be possessed by the spirit of the wild Dionysus himself.
All these examples mostly revolve around the concept of what womanhood would be in ancient Greece and the women that don't meet it are related to such practices as human sacrifice. By saying this I don't want to give the impression that I'm treating Hellenistic period Greece as one whole unit when it comes to history and mythology because that would be wrong.
Let's not forget Medea, who chops up her brother and throws his dismembered parts into the sea to stop her father from chasing her and Jason in order to pick up the parts of his dead son. Or how she later murders her children to get back at the cheating and betraying Jason. She gets whisked away by a Deus Ex Machina and doesn't face any consequences. However her story is still debated to this day in regards to her morality and the message of it.
Womanhood and human sacrifice in Greek mythology in turn seem to have a correlation. I'm no scholar, just a person that's really interested in Hellenistic religion and practices but as far as it goes it's an interesting connection that I would love to study more.

I’ve ended up down a rabbit hole. The fact there’s some bird species that we only have some footage from 2009 and 2018 of is insane, especially in today’s world.

youtube trending is so weird im looking at it now. 1st is a short with 182k views in 18 hours. 2nd is a short with 500k views in 15 hours. 3rd is a short with 1m in 19hours. 4th is a short with 19m in one day. 5th is dreams 40-minute-long video with 900k in 11 hours.
why would shorts be on it at all, surely they should get a different tab? they aren't at all comparable to a full video in terms of views, algorithm, watch time, etc. why would some doing statistically and objectively worse be ahead? ones with more views in less time are worse on trending? why is one of them is considered gaming just because someone is talking while minecraft parkour happens in the background?

Danny: Hey, I need you to be my boyfriend for a week.
Jason: What.
Danny: My parents are coming over and I've apparently accidentally talked about a partner more than once and only realized when they said they wanted to meet them.
Jason, currently still solidifying his power as a Crime Lord: Excuse me?
Danny: Let me get this out of the way, I do not consider you at all a person of romantical interest and a friend. But I need you to act as my partner for only a week until my parents go on their merry way over to my sister, okay?
Jason: Is there, quite literally, no one else to ask this?
Danny: You're my only friend who lives in Gotham, plus we share the same apartment.
Jason: That's almost sad.
Danny: You in?
Jason: Sure, why not.
===
Maddie: Danny, honey.
Danny: Yes mom?
Maddie: I don't mean to.... question, who you choose as your parent but. Well, me and your father was just wandering if he was a... [Maddie gestures with her hand] you know, one of those.
Danny, uncomprehendingly staring at his mother's hand: What.
Maddie: Oh dear, how do I bring this up. You know, one of those.
Danny: Mother I need more context.
Jack: If your boyfriend a crime lord!?
Maddie: Jack!
Jack: What? Beating around the bush wasn't helping!
Danny: Say WHAT?
===
Danny: Hey dude, thanks for helping with this even though you didn't need to!
Jason: No problem, I wasn't doing anything too [Crime Lord activities flash through his mind] important.
Danny: Can you believe my parents thought you were a crime lord though? Weird am I right?
Jason:
Danny: Jason. You are scaring me.
Jason: Haha, yea that's weird isn't it?
Danny: Jason.
Jason: Well, I have to leave now to attend to my totally real and totally not crime related job at the ice cream shop.
Danny: [Squints eyes]
Jason: [Internally sweating bullets]
Danny: Suuuuure, bring me back some ice cream though.
Jason: [Thumbs up and leaves]

[ID: Digital Art in color of Trigun Maximum, characters included are Wolfwood, Elendira, and Legato in a casual meeting situation. The piece consists of orangey yellow lighting and purple shadows. Wolfwood sits on the left side, facing Elendira who’s on the right. He’s seated on a plain wooden chair with one knee up and he’s holding the strap to his Punisher in his left hand while his right sits against his thigh, He has an irritated expression as he speaks to Elendira. Elendira is sitting in a fancier seat, her right arm rests against Wolfwood’s propped up knee, her left hand holds her suitcase. She’s sitting cross legged with an amused expression. Legato can be seen in the back at the center of the image in his mobile body case, one of his eyes shown to be glaring at Wolfwood. End ID]
[ID: Sketch, uncolored comic. Elendira says to Wolfwood, “I’m not telling you to dedicate yourself to him, but just accept the situation at hand. We could get along better if we were on the same page.” Wolfwood responds, “Don’t peg me me for an optimist. I’m not dumb. But, I’m also not going to just live in resignation. Plus, I don’t have any interest in getting along with ya.” Elendira coos, “Aw, you sure? I have a wonderful shoulder to cry on when the weak people you’re trying to protect eventually dies in the coming months. Though, I guess it’s fine. Someone like you might just die before then anyway...” She snickers in her hand while Wolfwood is speechless and just glares. Legato is faintly drawn in the back, glaring at Wolfwood, muttering “worthless” repetitively. End ID]

the thing that gets me about the goncharov posting is that it’s so uncanny. it’s quite literally like peering into an alternate universe where goncharov directed by martin scorsese is in fact real and it became a cult classic on tumblr. like every time i read a goncharov metapost i feel like im seeing every fandom metapost ive ever read superimposed onto it. it’s really good...
...is what i would say if goncharov was just a mass inside joke and not real.
