warlock wizard Wally scribbles... Thinkings! oh and a bonus bard-ish Barnabys in the corner for flavor
outfit ramblings:
first of all that is a Terrible rendition of what Home looks like in my head. i just needed to fill empty space </3
the staff was the toughest part honestly. bc it Had to be paintbrush-themed, but then halfway through scribbling i was like "oh shit. there are only so many ways to draw a paintbrush-wizard-staff and Weevmo already hit it out of the park." so if you're seeing similarities! you're right! i tried to make it as different as i could! there is Inspiration from their marvelous design, however accidental or subconscious! Apologies!
he gets a pointed hood instead of a hat because a) it looks great on him! and b) it has less of a chance of messing up his hair! also c) it helps muddle the difference between Wizard and Warlock. typically hoods have evil/duplicitous connotation - blur the lines! i want his long gloves and forearm wraps to have the same vibe. his neckerchief is a big help in hiding Home's seal!
his layered (loosely apple-themed) capelet (which the hood is attached to) has a nice high collar & hides the details of his loose shirt - eye embroidery! and some flowers on the shoulders but yk, mostly eyes. on one side of the shirt buttons has open eyes, the other side they're closed! there's also one big eye on his back!
his belt buckle is two halves of an apple! he wears tall thigh-high boots w/ low heels to feel Taller! he has a book-holster hooked to the back of his belt, which holds his grimoire! and he has a lil thigh-bag that has been magicked to be Bottomless and warps size! he can fit pretty much anything in there! canvases! paint! apples!
his half-skirt thing (idk what the word for it is!) is really plush, like a quilt - his capelet is the same fabric. soft, cozy. sometimes he'll use the skirt thing as a blanket in a pinch, or as a picnic placemat!
is his outfit a little Complicated? is it annoying to replicate? yes and yes. but im a maximalist at heart and Nothing But The Best for the blorbo <3 layers my beloved <3

the circus is coming to town, and what a selection of curiosities it has... 🎪
As soon as I saw the posters @amielot drew for the circus in their Horse Girl AU, I knew I had to try my hand at coloring them in! This AU has stolen my entire heart— if you haven't looked through the AU comics yet, DO THAT RIGHT NOW!! THEY'RE EXCELLENT!!
This poster is my colors on @amielot 's drawing, using @aquabluejay 's summoning circle asset in the background :) Insp under the cut—
Colors and textures were greatly inspired by painted circus/carnival posters, especially this one:

Considering Vash’s first kill, which version do you prefer? Trimax or ‘98?
I would say it's Trimax for me hands down. I might be not thinking deep enough about 98, bc I'm truly normal about it, but I'll explain what i think of these two comparatively.
What 98 did with this scene is really nice, it's the moment when Vash realizes that he has to let Rem go to protect people he cares about in the now. It's acceptance of grief, and ultimately is framed as noble gesture, a necessary evil. The story didn't mean for us to care about Legato, he is just a plot device, so he dies and becomes character development. Vash can grapple with the morality of counting the lives of his loved ones over a life of this enemy of his later on, but overall that's relatively standard sacrifice situation for an action story protagonist.
Now, enter Trimax. First thing, we get Legato's backstory, which is full of him enduring horrific violence and grasping for any salvation he can get. This backstory totally reframed for me him constantly being shown to eat food or drink in earlier chapter, sometimes quite expensive stuff. Before, it was, in my eyes, just a signifier of decadence, habitual wastefulness of a villain (think Denethor from LOTR). But after we get to know where he came from, it's showing me someone, who has not been free or safe for his entire childhood, indulging himself at long last, before everything comes crushing down. And him saving the enslaved girls all the way back in 95 manga? Oh. Oh no. He was doing for them what Knives did for him.
So that's one thing. We see not just a plot instrument, we know: it's a person, and a person of a very unfortunate fate, and he is about to die now.
Then, Vash's own motivation for killing Legato. On the surface, it is similar to 98 - a noble pursuit, a necessary evil to save Livio and Razlo from death. BUT THEN WE GET TO SEE VASHS THOUGHTS AND BRUH-
Like. The guy, who never kills anyone because life is the most precious thing to him in existence. Killed someone, not to save a life, but to give meaning to the death of his friend. Not because LR's lives are precious in themselves or that's his friend, suffering and in danger there. That was a selfish decision of someone who is deeply grieving. Sick. Sick and twisted.
The outcome is the same and nobody in the story have to know the whys. But I am perceiving him.
I think this juxtaposition of a selfish decision of a selfless man, and a snuffed out life that was just as horrible as it was precious, is much more meaty than what we got in 98.

i like to make fun of murderbot for being all "i hate everyone, i don't care about anything or anyone, fuck off" while simultaneously caring very much about the people around it and the situations it finds itself in. i love how it "accidentally" ends up caring quite a lot about the friends it makes along the way.
but i think something that i tend to forget is that murderbot actively decides to care - at least at some point in its story.
idk, as a person that struggles with depression, this paragraph from artificial condition really resonates with me. prior to all systems red, murderbot had contracts. it had routine and it had protocols. it knew what it had to do to just get by, how to perform so no one would notice it had disabled its governor module. it was deeply depressed, yes, but it was functioning (for lack of a better word).
in artificial condition, murderbot's routine is gone. it cannot go on in that state of numbly going-from-contract-to-contract, putting in as little effort as possible, consuming media to cope. that option is gone because it escaped (and note that escaping the company was not an active choice, it kinda happened to it). murderbot has two options now: it can either gather all its energy; actively do something new and difficult and distressing; change something in its life and try. or it can let the numbness and the emptiness take over and stop trying. if murderbot wants to survive as a rogue secunit, it has to try. no matter how difficult that is.
the wording in that paragraph really hits home for me. the way the non-caring sees an opportunity to slip in and to take over. does murderbot even care? does anything really matter? is anything really worth the hassle? wouldn't it be so much easier to just let your mind slip away a little, to go numb, to be passive, to watch media and wait for things to happen to you? wouldn't it be nice to stop thinking and struggling and feeling complicated things? to stop making an effort? you've been dealing with a lot lately and maybe it's time to just shut down. maybe you'll just take a little break. just slip deeper into this chair and start the show. time flies when you're not paying attention. trying is exhausting. who cares if you don't do the things you wanted to do, you were supposed to do. it'll be fine. let's just ignore those things for now. just let the non-caring take over. just stop thinking. you can deal with the aftermath later. just watch your shows. who cares.
but murderbot cares. it decides to care. it decides to fight with all it has and i think that is so brave. and i think in the later books caring is less of an active decision for murderbot. once you start caring, it's easier to keep going than to stop; and murderbot, for all its "i'm a grumpy rogue secunit, leave me alone" behavior, knows just how important caring is. so it's not that it doesn't know what's happening; rather, it lets itself care.
tl;dr: caring is not the default for murderbot, it's just the more difficult of two options. and it decides not to take the soft option. it decides to struggle. it decides to care. and so it does.

Ok this arc is probably far from over but now that things are okay-ish I just wanna praise everyone involved in it cause tonight was really frickin wild. Like, rp wise it was so... impactful? Forever really gave it his all, he was so goddamn eerie, and his screams and mental confusion were extremely convincing, it was genuinely upsetting. And I couldn't help but pity Pac through this (he's the MVP tho!) Everyone else did so well too, I was IMMERSED, man!
And it's just? Very poetic how the people Forever had the most lore with were the ones to save him. Even though some bad things happened between them, like Phil's rejection and his crumbling friendship with Bbh. And also how Cellbit fought so hard for his friend just like Forever did to him way back then (Regret arc)??? *Cheff's kiss* That's cinema!
