What was your favorite “trash TV” show?

omg anon here's a list bc i watch (+hyperfixate on) a lot of trash tv!

riverdale, unfortunately:

-i hyperfixated on it s1 so im stuck in this shit For Life now but s3 had it's good moments even if it makes no sense in canon + it's fun to binge watch, if only to criticize and make fun of it (which is what i often watch shows to do)

the 100:

-the only season i havent seen is s7 bc even that was too bad for me, but id suggest it, again, for good binging and to criticize it

-has a lot more loveable characters than riverdale, even if the worst ones tend to get mc status

outer banks:

-only hetero if u watch it like a straight person

-jj is definetly accidentally neurodivergent queer coded but im clinging onto this fact for dear life

-it only has one season currently (2nd season comes out in 5 days) so it's a fun short watch and, so far, not problematic (but it's netflix, dont hold onto that)

misfits but just the seasons before robert sheehan leaves:

-almost bad enough to be annoying but it's also charming (?)

-problematic but its watchable

tmnt 2012:

-i dont think its shit but people say it is so 🤷‍♀️

pretty little liars:

-so unrealistic and everyone cheats on everyone but fuck if im not gonna rewatch it every chance i get

-unironically one of my favorite shows

-went on for way too long AND got a spinoff but id still suggest watching the whole series (spinoff you can skip)

-spencer hastings is both me and also the love of my life so. do with that info what you will.

switched at birth:

-so bad and lowkey problematic but sometimes it makes points and it's a good show to binge

-does not ruin gay peoples lives even tho it takes them awhile to get to the gay people

-all the men daphne dates are either twinks or himbos and i think that's important

the walking dead:

-again, stick to the earlier seasons

-was good til about season 5, the rest is kinda just there to watch If You Want

-kill ur gays my beloathed but none of the gay characters have personalities anyways

accidentally in love:

-chinese drama that plays too much into the "glasses make you ugly" trope but the romance is endearing ig

-idk it's a good way to pass the time if you can stick with it

the oa:

-not actually bad just Very Confusing especially since netflix cancelled it on a cliff hanger

-i just like recommending this one to people tbh

-slow paced which drives me insane but worth it

-has actual queer rep played by queer people tho

!! EAST LOS HIGH:

-shitty hulu telenovela my beloved

-season 2 is way better but the whole show is a terrible shit show that WILL entertain you anyways

-if ur into dudes in gangs that have a soft spot, this is ur show

Yes I'm about to defend D&D and this is absolutely a hill I'm proud to die on. Yes I did the same for Rian Johnson. No I'm not a bootlicker. Yes I've read the books.

HERE GOES

Yall begged and petitioned for Cleganebowl. Not a word when you get it in spades.

Yall knew by season 4 that D&D were on their own. GRRM admits fault. Not a word when they do justice to like 80% of the plot anyway.

Yall shat bricks over fast travel (afaict the only fast travel was the raven that flew to dragonstone during beyond the wall, but go off ig) but still feel free to complain when the story drags for 10 minutes in an otherwise packed episode. Not a word when insane attention to detail is given in any other part of the show, showing obvious love and passion for the source material. (BUT MEL BATHED WITHOUT HER NECKLACE!!! IN A ROOM FULL OF MAGIC POTIONS NO LESS!)

Yall loved the shock and awe of the entire fucking thing ONLY UNtil it wasn't written by George himself, even when it was gd brilliant. Not a word when they make the finale as painless as possible.

Yall wanna bitch about plot holes and underdeveloped characters??? WHOSE FAULT IS THAT? George said no a million times until he met two fanboys who promised fidelity and then again he misses every deadline ever and doesn't even bother to help them write any episodes once the show catches up, then gives up on the show entirely and publically shames it. I'm a huge fan of the guy but everyone involved should've known better, especially him.

Here's where I'll give a lil.

Barristan? Epic waste.

Quaithe? Could've been great.

The Harpy? That was just embarrassing but it's the hardest to solve riddle in the books so far, so ig I'll let it pass.

Not including and paying off the last bit of Maggy's prophecy? Shameful.

Not taking full advantage of Conleth Hill (Varys)? Am quite disappoint.

Euron? Don't get me started.

Sparing characters who would've had a better story and more impact had they died? Or showing characters in impossible circumstances just to deus ex machina them to safety? Wtf???

No fight between Greyworm and Jon? Why not?!

No dragon warging? Seriously?

No fight between Jon and NK even tho Arya still could've done the thing? Fucking spent.

No elephants? #ImWithHersei

Rookie mistakes. Made by actual rookies who should've received intel from the man himself for the sake of the show and the millions of viewers and fans. those who didn't read the books or watch hundreds of videos online about it wouldn't even know how much better it could've been and plenty couldn't care less since it was GOOD ENOUGH ON ITS OWN

Given all the different petitions, complaints, predictions, etc., there's only one other way season 8 could've gone down. D&D could've accepted the proposal for a nearly doubled budget, and then risked filling even more airtime with inevitably disappointing content since yall love to flood the web with predictions and reviews and all the rest FOR YOUR OWN BENEFIT with no inkling on the pressure it puts on the creators.

See, I too can come up with a million things they should've done differently. I have many more if yall are interested and you seem to be fiending heavily for rewrites. Say the word and I'll come through. But for fucks sake learn to appreciate how impossibly difficult and monumental a task it is to take the written word of a veritable literary genius and translate and condense it for television. Dragons are cool again. Fantasy storytelling is a reimagined artform all over again. Soap opera-level dramatics are no longer restricted to telenovelas and WWE. CGI and MoCap are infinitely improved forever. Ppl are naming their kids Dany ffs.

then there's TYRION'S SPEECH ABOUT STORIES which will inspire creators for decades

Show an ounce of respect for a story you love at least enough to complain nonstop about when your predictions don't pan out.
