At the start of 2023 I was a quiet Pedro admirer; although Narcos was my gateway Pedro I was just admiring from a distance; following films and interviews but definitely not engaging. Too scary. 😟

The Mandalorian came along and I peeked into fandom but didn’t engage 🫣

HBO’s TLOU changed all that.

I put my big girl panties on and dipped my toe in the water. I wanted to join in with the fun 🤩 Not having a creative writing bone in my body I started making some video edits on the clock app; Some really, really poor quality and quite shitty edits. 😂 But I was having a lot fun making them and it was purely for my own enjoyment. 💗

Got my Mandalorian/TLOU tattoo it says endure & survive in Mandalorian script cos I was Six when Star Wars came out and it’s been my comfort for nearly my whole life; and then the TLOU hit me with all of its feelings!!! And Endure & Survive has pretty much been a mantra for my life at times. So..

The Met Gala was life altering.

Gradually I’ve taught myself how to make edits that are a bit better; and some people even seem to like them!! And I started to get followers on the clock app! Crazy!! Still think it’s crazy that anyone takes time to watch or comment on them. I’ve not been confident enough to post much of them on here amongst so much cool stuff but I’ll try to push myself to do that more in 2024

As the odd; ND, but I’m gen x so just weird, person I’ve always felt I’ve been the one on the outside or the edge looking in; I still mainly feel like that; but Pedro fandom has let me feel like I’m a tiny part of something; which is such a gift. I wish Pedro could understand that his work gives so much more to people. I’ve made some wonderful friends because of it and I hope to make more in the next year.

Fandom has truly allowed me to feel ok being myself 💗 and that’s so fucking cool.

After reading fics on a03 I switched over to here; and then made an account.

Wow!!! What a difference. I love the interaction with the writers; the fact that you all take the time to respond to comments and thoughts is amazing to me and truly valued 💗🥰

Roi:

- She likes to read, and is a big fan of historical poetry.

- She doesn't have an ear for music at all, hilariously at odds in this regard with her girlfriend who was a weaver who would weave said elements through song.

- Badly allergic to pet fur, can't have a standard dog/cat in her home!

Marta:

- I'll admit I'm starting to run out of facts on her that don't rehash information I've already shared or that she's open about lol, but one is that even though she doesn't run colder after icebrood saga, she personally can feel more of a chill in the air. Not enough to make her layer up more, but enough that she never forgets the mistaken choice she made.

- Braham got her pretty good in that final fight! The covered side of her chest/torso has a scar from his mace. The only scar she's not particularly proud of. She left a mark or two on him in turn she still apologizes for.

- She likes to make up constellations. She knows the ones the norn have named by heart but she finds it more fun to chart her own, especially if she's star gazing with a friend.

🎄 CHRISTMAS TREE — what is your oc's favorite holiday?

Roi is figuring out again what holidays she likes, they've changed a little in the Yeats she was gone and also now that Cantha has opened back up to the world things will change more. Regardless, she's happy to spend it with friends.

Marta likes wintersday quite a lot! Loves exchanging gifts with friends and curling up by the fire after a fun day out. She's pretty damn menacing in the snowball fights too✨️

💙 BLUE HEART — does your oc have any cool/special powers and/or abilities? how are they with magic, if it exists in their world?

Roi is extremely special yeah!!! Her time in the mists, years and years going through and medlding with fractals of the same moment with a desperation and vindication that opened her to meddling of its own kind. She's a revenant of sorts, but she doesn't channel a legend and she does not carry the accolades of a strong force backing her knowingly. What she does have though is the mists itself. Channeled through her in the many iterations of herself she flowed between. Her voice echoes in her own head in tones and reasons unfamiliar to herself in this version of tyria, and she feels the veil to be thin between herself and those fractured remnants of other worlds. She really is something deeply unique and conflicted in her existence, but it provides a unique skillet that enemies truly are not prepared for.

Marta isn't particularly special! She's a guardian, and she largely supports her team. She doesn't need to be special, just needs to play a solid support both on and off the field.

🤩 FACE WITH STARRY EYES — is your oc a planner, or are they more spontaneous in their actions?

Roi is largely calculated and methodical in what she does. She tries her best to take everything into account and she will hang on to her plan with an iron grip if possible.

Marta lands somewhere between, she's happy enough to go with the flow and let others handle the fine tuning, but if she needs some control she goes all in and will not budge from the plan she makes.

But when she discovers that the magic surrounding Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only Madrigal without magical powers, could be the last hope of her exceptional family.

To say that I’ve waited my whole life for this moment would be a lie, I never thought- I never let myself believe that a studio as renowned as Disney would ever look at my country and find it worth it of one of their big movies, and yet here we are. I remember the day Disney posted the first and only teaser, how i cried when “Colombia tierra querida” started playing, when I saw the same mountains that I see every day, and the flowers and butterflies that I know by heart.

My country is in the north of South America, but most people wouldn’t even be able to point it in a map, some think that it is named Columbia after the U.S. state, they don’t seem to understand, as many times as you correct them, it’s just a letter they say, it doesn’t matter, and the worst people make disgusting jokes about c*caine or about the 70 something years of war this country has known, they think their jokes are harmless, they aren't.

I grew up thinking that the only kind of representation I’d get in movies and series were productions such a Netflix’s Narcos, bc sure, exploiting the story of the men who brought so much misery and pain to our people is great 🤩, I’m getting too spiteful, but I hope you understand, I know many of you do.

My country has a far too long list of devastating events considering that it didn’t exist as a country 200 years ago, most days it’s hard to find reasons to feel proud, most days in “the happiest country in the world” there are no reasons to smile, but this? this movie, what I hope you see in this movie makes me cry tears of joy, this does make me proud and gives me millions of reasons to smile.

My country is one of the most biodiverse places in the world, and 20% of all the butterflies are found here.

My people grow and exports the best coffee in the world.

Cumbia, with roots in indigenous and black culture, the only genre of music capable of uniting our continent, from the Caribbean coast till Tierra del Fuego, was born in Colombia

This country overflows in cultural diversity, as José Vasconsuelos said, we are the cosmic race, this constellation of people from every corner of the planet lives in all of us, we are a strange and wonderful mix of all their stories, their struggles, their traditions and their will to built something here.

All of this and more, all the things that I love and make me proud of my country I hope you can see them in Encanto, I hope this movie make people see what so many others have failed to see before, and I hope that at least part of this movie gets to live in your hearts, as it already does in mine

And to my fellow Colombians reading this, we know our struggles, we know how hard this year has been, but here's to all of us, this is our best, this is our pride, this who we truly are ♥️
