that comic of vasco sick in bed reminds me of that post about the cat that always makes sure their his owner sees him eating whenever they're sad. I feel like machete would do the same sort of thing to cheer up vasco without really realizing it, like something vasco did to cheer him up in the past that isn't actually relevant if that makes sense

Day 5 - Prompt: "Don't worry, I've got you."
Fandom: Baldur's Gate 3
“Don’t kill him!” Falerin shouted, just barely dodging a slash from Astarion.
“He’s trying to kill us!” Shadowheart snapped back.
“It’s not him, it’s the mask!” Falerin dodged another slash. “It’s…it’s from the table, it must be enchanted. He’s the only one that put it on.”
“I mean—whoa, easy, fangs!” Karlach said as an arrow whizzed past her ear. “He’s always been a little… ‘I’ll sell all of you out for a single barleycake.’ Are you sure he’s not just making good on that?”
“Yes!” Falerin snapped. A well-timed stomp sent a wave of thunder at Astarion, knocking the vampire to the ground. “Look, I know him, he—”
“Yes, well, you’re a little biased,” Shadowheart said through her teeth. She lunged forward with her mace, only to get hit by a thunderclap herself. “Falerin! Just because you’ve slept with him doesn’t make him good!”
“It’s not that, it’s…” The warlock snapped his gaze over to Astarion—he was still down, good. “Look. We know Astarion. If he was going to pull out his big betrayal, he’d never do it in a shitty little hovel like this! It’d be big and obnoxious and…and ostentatious!”
There was a small mumble from behind the mask, a just barely decipherable but nonetheless insulted “Ostentatious?”
“See? He’s still in there!” Falerin whirled around, looking up at Karlach pleadingly. “Knock him out. Please don’t kill him. We just…we need to get the mask off.”
Karlach looked conflicted, glancing over at Shadowheart. She frowned back, shaking her head. Karlach took a deep breath, eyes flicking back to Falerin.
“I’m trusting you, soldier,” she said. Then, just as Astarion got back up to his feet, she slammed her pommel down on his head. He went down, and Falerin rushed over.
“Astarion?” He knelt down beside the vampire, fingers prying under the mask. With some difficulty, he pulled it off of him and heaved it aside. “Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’ve got you.”
It took a few moments of breathless anticipation, but finally Astarion opened his eyes, gaze unfocused and dazed. He stared blankly up at the ceiling before red eyes finally ticked down to meet Falerin’s odd-colored gaze.
“That was…horrible,” he breathed out. “It was the hag. She was…her voice was in my head. I felt like a…a puppet.” He shut his eyes for a moment, shivering, then frowned and sat up. “And you were going to kill me!” he shot at Shadowheart.
“I was prepared to do what I had to,” Shadowheart said, lifting her chin.
Astarion opened his mouth to argue more, but Falerin’s hand found his back. “But she didn’t! She didn’t, we’re all still alive, and you’re safe now.” He let out a breath, looking over the elf’s face. “Was that too much?” he asked softly. “We can cut bait, go back to camp.”
Astarion shut his eyes, letting out a long breath through his nose. “No. I’m fine, and I know you want to…go off and be a hero.” Shakily, he pushed himself up to his feet, nostrils flaring. “And now I am really, really going to enjoy killing this hag.”
“There’s our Astarion!” Karlach said brightly, giving him a slap on the back that nearly sent him flying. “Good to have you back. Let’s get her!”
