BIOGRAPHY
In Savannah, in the fall of 1989, Vincenzo and Bianca Sorrentino welcomed the first child, who was a boy they named Jason, into the world. For the most part of his childhood Jason was raised by nannies like most kids born into wealth are. His father had been a business man who barely spent any time at home and his mother was a socialite who penciled in family time whenever she felt like it which wasn’t often. Because of this, even only being a young child at the time, he developed a certain resentment towards his parents that only got worse when his little sister, Brooklyn, was born. His parents seemed to slow down their lives to be around a lot more for her. It was as though they tended to her every need while forgetting about him. Luckily for his sister, Jason never blamed her for the way their parents devoted all their attention to her.
Instead he did the only thing he could think of and began to act out. He often got into fights with other kids at their parents high society parties, broke things, and in general tried to gain an ounce of their attention. They never gave it to him though. Anytime he got in trouble a nanny would handle it and that’d be the end. As Jason began to get older he stopped caring about whether or not his parents were paying attention to him. Starting to act out more for the fun of it than to get a rise out of them. As a teenager all of the somewhat temper tantrums Jason had thrown as a child developed into something that could put all of those to shame. At fifteen he began drinking with all of his friends simply because they could. All they had to do was drop their last names at bars and the bartenders simply looked the other way. To them money meant more than an ID. From then on it was all down hill for him. He became a full on party boy who’s only goal was to outdo whatever he’d done the night before. His grades began slipping, his temper grew shorter, and all around he was not himself in any way.
Jason was only coming up on the halfway mark of seventeen when he pissed his parents off for what they said was the last time. They had been going away for a long weekend and asked him to act as the adult to his sisters sleep over party to which he reluctantly agreed. Only instead of actually being an adult he chose to confine Brooklyn and her friends to her room while he threw a party downstairs. The party had gotten out of hand and it caused the police to show up. A few of Jason’s friends, and himself were handcuffed outside of his house when his parents showed up after being called by the police officers. They managed to get him out of a trip down to the station but it didn’t save him from getting yelled at by his father. Ultimately his parents decided to send him to boarding school until he went off to the college his dad had to pull a million strings to get him in. In boarding school Jason decided to change for the better.
After graduating high school, Jason ended up actually doing something that his parents wanted him to do. Going to college. For him it was less about them though and more about attempting to push all the mistakes he made in his youth as far away as he could. He’d even picked a major that no one would’ve really expected. Pre med, it was something to busy all his time with and that’s what he needed to no go back down old roads. Jason was 21 and at the start of his final year in college when he met someone he could see forever with. Nicole. The two started things off hot and heavy. During the year he truly fell for her and the next thing he knew he was breaking all his own mental rules and got down on one knee just after they graduated. The wedding happened soon after that and then happily ever after. Or so the two thought. It was way too soon to make a decision like that and by 24 they were already separated. They both knew divorce was the best thing but then she dropped a bombshell on him. She was pregnant.
The divorce no longer felt right and so for the nine months the two tried to work out their differences. Their efforts hadn’t really worked though and in the end they made the decision to divorce and co-parent. It was tough with her in grad school and him in med school but the two made it work. After they both graduated things got difficult again. She had a job that required traveling and Jason didn’t so they both made the decision that he’d get custody. The idea of being a single father to a two year old didn’t really interest Jason that much, knowing he couldn’t handle that much responsibility in addition to all his other ones, so he made the choice to apply for a residency in California where his sister and best friend lived. The two had offered their help and he knew he would’ve been a fool not to accept it. So he packed his bags and finally left Georgia in the rear view.
For three years now Jason and his son been settled in Santa Monica. A place both of them truly enjoy. Over the years Jason has still been trying to find the balance between the different parts of his life. Being a third year resident, father, brother, and friend is never easy but if asked he say he was doing a pretty good job of it. Even with all the stress that comes with it.
