i've been ruminating a lot on it because i think i'm bad at putting my thoughts into words but i need y'all to understand that while there are absolutely a lot of Not Good Things about the finals being held in saudi arabia for three years...the way people seem to treat is as morally black and white is shortsighted and unhelpful.
realistically the players traveling there will be protected. it may be uncomfortable, it's certainly not ideal, but they will travel there for a few weeks, play their tennis, then leave. there are a lot of women, a lot of queer people who actually live in saudi arabia who cannot just leave, who are actually subjected to laws and social climates...and to me it just seems very disrespectful to that actual lived experience, for everybody to sort of turn their noses up and get on their high horses. of course, if the players wish to opt out, that is their choice, but that is their choice to make. that's their judgement. not ours.
and then, what about a tournament like miami? florida is literally experiencing one of the worst active regressions that i've seen in the us (granted i'm young). things like critical race theory and lgbtq+ ed are being removed from curriculums, rights for trans youth, trans healthcare, etc. are going backwards. abortion rights? gun violence? and yes i know that the laws and climate in saudi arabia are different gravy, i understand that, but my point is, no one would ever DREAM of arguing against hosting a tournament in miami despite all of these issues. and we can extend this to a lot of other tournaments! i mean, all the outrage about fifa hosting a world cup in qatar, but we don't have any of these sentiments about doha? i've seen other people bring up that the finals were hosted in singapore when gay marriage was still illegal there. we've already talked about italy's fascist prime minister. and i could go on and on and on about the war crimes of countries like the us or the uk - is the us not participating actively in genocide right now? where is the standard? if you argue against hosting the finals in saudi arabia for the reason of human rights, to me it seems you have to uphold that standard for the location you do land on. and i can guarantee, you will not find a single country in the world with clean hands.
i want to be clear i am not arguing that hosting the finals in saudi arabia is a good thing, especially for three years, especially because it's definitely going there because of money, and not for any of the "good" reasons i think some people want us to believe about "improving the region" (which is very weirdly white savior-esque anyway). i don't really have an official "conclusion" to this discussion.
what i am arguing is that i think a lot of the protests against saudi arabiahosting the finals are more an example of implicit anti-arab bias and islamophobia, rather than genuine discussion. key word implicit: i don't think most people are purposefully trying to be anti-arab/islamophobic. or at least, i'd like to believe nobody is. but i also think, particularly in the west, there is already so much of this xenophobic sentiment ingrained. and this is why i think it's really really REALLY important to check ourselves when we talk about it instead of just jumping straight to the human rights conversation without a second thought.
i'll say it plainly: i don't think the finals should be held in saudi arabia. but for me, it has more to do with sportswashing, with the dangers of the way money is thrown around in sports, and because i think it's more evidence that the wta doesn't care about player welfare but rather about making a profit (what else is new). human rights are absolutely a concern of mine, but how is it fair to hold saudi arabia to a standard that we don't seem to care about for literally anybody else?
literally look at the us's ugly ugly history, past and present, and tell me why we deserve to host a tennis tournament.

ok, you are so valid for disliking Mihoyo games for whatever reason you want. (I play them and they drive me up the walls sometimes). but seeing someone accuse the games of orientalism is so funny???
hello??? the games are literally made by Chinese devs. yes, it's marketed globally but claiming that they are fetishizing their own culture is A Take TM for sure.

Hey Nonny, Nonny...
Yeah. I'm pretty sure the last Nonny & the one that just popped up in my askbox are the same person. And that's cool, but I'm not answering you anymore.
You could be sincere in your questions, but I've gotten enough grief from Adrien fans that your questions are starting to feel like a trap, and I'm just here trying to enjoy my fandom in peace. Internet Tone can be easy to misread, and I do apologize if you're just genuinely curious, but yeah I'm not about to step into Extra Unnecessary Drama.

It is actually an interesting aspect of history that many empires actually stumble into their first big conquests that make them 'Empires', and consciously invading places to annex them and so forth tends to emerge during later phases of expansion and conquest.
Not universally, nor is it that simple, but also in many cases, the big war that starts the first big conquests aren't even declared by the future Empire themselves.

Let's have some drama :) Can I request RFA+Saeran with an MC who is a twin of Rika? Rika and MC are twins but they got separated and don't know each other existence. MC look identical to Rika and would cause some drama, mostly of what I think is Yoosung and Saeran. To add more fuel to the fire, why not make MC have the same name as Rika and have the same past as Rika too? Even mannerisms to similar except MC has a better personality than Rika
Don't think I can write that for you, sorry! To keep the characterizations intact, I prefer to stick to canon as closely as possible, and I don't think such a scenario is very plausible. It's highly unlikely that Rika would use her twin sister in the same way as the MC in the game. Family is a very touchy and very important thing to her, to the point where it is literally one of the key motivators behind her actions. She uses MC distinctly because there is no connection to her or to the RFA. It's impossible for her to use her twin for the same role as the MC in the game. To put it differently, I don't see her twin meeting the RFA... at all, actually.
Plus, twins are still two different individuals with different views, wants, and quirks, even if their past may align similarly. Although there are many similarities between Saeyoung and Saeran, they are still distinct individuals with their own lives and unique personalities. What I'm saying is that Rika's twin would still be a distinctly different character, with her own unique personality. At least, in my interpretation of such a scenario. It wouldn't feel right for me to take Rika's existing characterization and apply it to a different character.
And, uh... Rika is actually my third favorite character after the twins, so I do not agree fully that her personality is somehow 'bad'! It's a bit more complicated than that. Totally understand that she may not be your favorite, though! Just letting you know that I may not be the blog for that <3

I need some people to have a big reality check
"the manipulated becomes the manipulator", "the broken becomes the breaker", "the heartbroken becomes the heart breaker"
shut the fuck up.
I've seen so many people on social media recently talking about how they're becoming a bad person after what was done to them, and they just can't help it. Which is an utter fucking bullshit.
The one thing in our lives we can control is our reaction. If you were hurt in the past, I'm sorry, no one deserves to be an object of anyone's cruelty. But that doesn't give you a pass to become an awful fucking human being. It doesn't mean you now cannot help who you are. wtf
People are not inherently good nor bad. That is what makes it possible to hold people accountable. NO ONE is destined to be a good or bad person. It's not a decision that is made for you. YOU make those decisions every day. And seeing so many people just trying to make someone else responsible for THEIR decisions is ridiculous.
If after being hurt you go on doing the same or similar things to other people, it's YOU doing it, not some divine force that you can't fight. Being hurt doesn't excuse you DECIDING to hurt other people.
Heal people. For fuck's sake. Break the cycle.
And if you do not, at least do not pretend that you can't/couldn't help what you did/do/are doing. Hold yourself accountable. If you are going to be a bad person, it's YOUR actions. Not someone else's. If you let the cycle continue, YOU let it continue.
It's your responsibility to get it together to the best of your abilities. I'm not saying it can't be hard, because it can, but it's not impossible.
For all the people that can't look at "the abused becomes the abuser" without feeling like they're going to fucking scream, it doesn't have to be true. It's up to you. And I know I might come off as a bit insensitive, but it can be the anchor too. So please try to look at it this way.
It's up to you. Who you are going to be is not decided by the harm you endured/are enduring. It's not decided. It's in your power. It just takes a lot of work.

AU where Jason gets his revenge by becoming a lawyer and getting joker sentenced to the death penalty
Bruce is conflicted about it but any time he tries to say anything on the subject Alfred just talks over him like "oh we're so proud of you master Jason you finished college and you didn't even use your father's extensive resources that could've easily gotten someone in this family a degree aren't we so proud master Bruce that Jason got himself a respectable profession--"

I am actually a Native person who has always gone by animal names, both my deadname and every name I've used as a trans person, and I think if you have a Native character who you feel would have a nature name (because of hippy parents or because they're trans or whatever), then you can avoid stereotypes by having ~more than one Native character~
I know, it's a shocking concept, but it's actually pretty easy to avoid contributing to stereotypes in your works when you remember that you are allowed to have more than one character from the same ethnic and/or racial group. Just have a different Native character with a "normal" name. Problem solved. Have fun.

"What will you do without new shows" I haven't watched a mainstream television show as it released in years. I'm catching up on shows my parents liked in the 90s. I'm listening to fiction podcasts with 5 fans. I'm playing a video game the creators want you to pirate. I'm watching a minecraft roleplay. I may not know what I'm gonna do but I'm sure as hell not gonna be a fuckin scab babygirl.
