no like i’m seriously so mad about the fact that mike said his life started the day he met el. imagine being will and not only knowing your love will never be reciprocated, but now hearing that the boy you love and consider to be your best friend actively believes that the day you went missing, the day your life went to absolute shit, was the best day of his life. what the actual fuck mike

So I just watched a bunch of the FD from Canadian nationals (which I don’t really watch recent comps but decided to check it out so if anyone wants any thoughts on that let me know) but the thing I have to say in general and THIS IS NOT a partisan VM pov… comparing many of the teams- the top teams in Canada.. the standard between VM is just light years inbetween.
I got a friend to watch who knows figure skating and ice dance but nothing in depth, I’ve showed them a vm program in the past but can’t remember what. But just for fun I showed her 3 of the teams from Canadian Nats- FB/S, L/L and L\R, then showed her VM’s MR from nationals in 2018.
These were her and my thoughts:
First L/R- they did a dolly themed fd. I said how at the same age- younger by a year actually, that VM were dancing Carmen.. for me coming from the dance world I said that in a company environment sometimes you have to perform ‘childish’ rolls like for eg the doll in nutcracker or Coppelia- the difference with ID though is it’s your choice what you perform- so if they are choosing to perform a.. quite childish theme in their mid 20s then that’s their choice… ?? so there’s that maturity factor but at the same time out of the three programs we watched together that program was the most interesting/entertaining.
Next we watched L/L.we agreed they had a nice quality and were a good match, but it was quite boring and we both found we were losing focus, looking at the points box in the screen coz it just wasn’t that interesting. Also the costumes are not flattering.
Finally we watched FB/S, who I told my friend had won the comp. She said that she was only watching the girl because the guy was a very weak performer and physically was not up to her standard. I agreed and said I am only watching her, but not because he was making me watch her, but because he was not drawing my eye in a good way, and when I did look at him he was distracting and she was so much stronger than him.
So.. after all this we watched VM’s MR, and then Latch from NHK because I felt MR wasn’t the most fair comparison because the MR music is a lot more energetic and dynamic than both LL and FBS music.
Here’s what my friend said:
About TS: they are so equal, they move like they are one, there is tremendous connection between them, they are so musical, I’m watching both of them, both separately and in respect to each other, they are so athletic, the lifts are seemless- she just goes without any hesitation or miss communication, they are both so invested in it and you really feel as though they love it with every fibre of their beings. They just seem like an anomaly- like they just so clearly ‘have IT’.
About the other two teams: there was hardly any projection to the audience, quite uncoordinated between partners at times, unequal in abilities (esp FBS), very on one level- both choreographically and their level of performance.
I told her that it’s the same choreographer for VM’s programs and the other teams. She said well that’s a matter of what you do with your choreography- it may be good chore but it’s up to the dancers to make it good. (I had told her a bit more about VM at this point) she then assumed TS have a lot to do with their chore and program direction and I said yes, but I don’t know what if any input the other teams had on their programs. She said they just felt very slow where as VM darted across the ice, that Tessa was so light where as the other girls didn’t feel so solid on their legs/ were heavy in the ice. There was a general lack of security between partners- even before she watched TS.
So.. that’s coming from an outside perspective.
As I said I don’t really watch current ID, admittedly because I just love VM so much and live in a bit of a state of denial that there is anything that has come after them.
I am obviously bias and I wrote a post the other day simply outlining the on paper record teams have ahead of them to beat.
But the gap between VM and every other team is just light years. They just have everything. And it’s not as though it all came easy- they had to work for it, but they are just the ones who are it. I’m not saying it’s complete a ‘fate’ thing, but in every industry there is just someone or some team that are on another level.
I really just don’t see anyone in the sport ever achieving their level of brilliance- beyond the changing requirements of the sport or personal artistic preferences- nothing against these current teams, it is just speaking objectively (btw my friend said that she really doesn’t like the MR version of the song Roxanne- but because TS expressed it so well she forgot about not liking it). VM are so humble and not really capable of assessing their own brilliance objectively, but in other ways they can: like Scott says- he can’t expect there to be another TV, and Tessa said (on many occasions with varied phrasing) that he is just the best ever. They also acknowledge that a huge part of their brilliance is their partnership in terms of both their natural chemistry and the way they worked together to support each other- that part other teams can certainly learn but more and more I appreciate just how hard TS worked at that and how much of a role it played in them becoming as amazing as they were. It’s not to expect that anyone will ever be ‘the next’ TS- to replicate them, but just a team that has the right tools and foundation and can put the pieces they need to together to make it happen on that level.
So yeh.. I might start watching ice dance now- not necessarily for the enjoyment of it but just to see where the sport goes..

Floyd would bite you on the neck and would get upset if you try to cover them up...
That's his ownership mark!! NO covering it so other people can think you are not his >:(
Also can I be 🍰 anon?
Yes! Shrimp why would you be so mean :((( that’s his mark of love! To show you are 100% totally and irreversibly his! If he sees you with your collar button all the way or popped high he’ll just pull you aside during school hours and give you one where you can attempt to hide it.
And sure! No problem!

Hey All,
I've been away for some time, as we've been working really hard on something quite exciting:
let me present to you the world's first ever global ocean drainage basin map that shows all permanent and temporary water flows on the planet.
This is quite big news, as far as I know this has never been done before. There are hundreds of hours of work in it (with the data + manual work as well) and it's quite a relief that they are all finished now.
But what is an ocean drainage basin map, I hear most of you asking? A couple of years ago I tried to find a map that shows which ocean does each of the world's rivers end up in. I was a bit surprised to see there is no map like that, so I just decided I'll make it myself - as usual :) Well, after realizing all the technical difficulties, I wasn't so surprised any more that it didn't exist. So yeah, it was quite a challenge but I am very happy with the result.
In addition to the global map I've created a set of 43 maps for different countries, states and continents, four versions for each: maps with white and black background, and a version for both with coloured oceans (aka polygons). Here's the global map with polygons:
I know from experience that maps can be great conversation starters, and I aim to make maps that are visually striking and can effectively deliver a message. With these ocean drainage basin maps the most important part was to make them easily understandable, so after you have seen one, the others all become effortless to interpret as well. Let me know how I did, I really appreciate any and all kinds of feedback.
Here are a few more from the set, I hope you too learn something new from them. I certainly did, and I am a geographer.
The greatest surprise with Europe is that its biggest river is all grey, as the Volga flows into the Caspian sea, therefore its basin counts as endorheic.
An endorheic basin is one which never reaches the ocean, mostly because it dries out in desert areas or ends up in lakes with no outflow. The biggest endorheic basin is the Caspian’s, but the area of the Great Basin in the US is also a good example of endorheic basins.
I love how the green of the Atlantic Ocean tangles together in the middle.
No, the dividing line is not at Cape Town, unfortunately.
I know these two colours weren’t the best choice for colourblind people and I sincerely apologize for that. I’ve been planning to make colourblind-friendly versions of my maps for ages now – still not sure when I get there, but I want you to know that it’s just moved up on my todo-list. A lot further up.
Minnesota is quite crazy with all that blue, right? Some other US states that are equally mind-blowing: North Dakota, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming. You can check them all out here.
Yes, most of the Peruvian waters drain into the Atlantic Ocean. Here are the maps of Peru, if you want to take a closer look.
Asia is amazingly colourful with lots of endorheic basins in the middle areas: deserts, the Himalayas and the Caspian sea are to blame. Also note how the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra are divided.
I mentioned earlier that I also made white versions of all maps. Here’s Australia with its vast deserts. If you're wondering about the weird lines in the middle: that’s the Simpson desert with its famous parallel sand dunes.
North America with white background and colourful oceans looks pretty neat, I think.
Finally, I made the drainage basin maps of the individual oceans: The Atlantic, the Arctic, the Indian and the Pacific. The Arctic is my favourite one.
I really hope you like my new maps, and that they will become as popular as my river basin maps. Those have already helped dozens of environmental NGOs to illustrate their important messages all around the world. It would be nice if these maps too could find their purpose.
