kaz wears these sharp dark suits to mock and imitate the merchers and obviously knows enough about fashion out of necessity because of all his thieving and various jobs he’s needed costume and disguises for, as well as all the knowledge he has accumulated for thieving on the clothing styles assumed by different members of the ketterdam population

but he also clearly has a genuine interest in hats, even if he pretends they are also a ‘necessity’

inej and kaz have pairs of matching black boots, although inej barely wears hers, and kaz’s are in dire need of replacement

inej has a long coat that she always wears, but normally just wears a nondescript shirt and trousers underneath

she hates the menagerie for it, but she will never feel quite the same about traditional suli dress again

nina is used to wearing flowing silks even if she hated them at the white rose, but she hates fjerdan woolly vests almost as muchif she had her way, she would half her time in cool shirts and trousers, with a coat to match inej’s if she could, and the other half in gorgeous dresses, beguiling matthias

matthias (in an alive au) would take years to break out of military restrictions in his head about the way he dresses and cuts his hair but slowly he grows it out (the shaved head made him wish for the days when nina would run her hands through it) and leaves his stubblehis clothing doesn’t change that much, but nina notices him broadening the colour palette he goes for from fjerdan colours to brighten Ravkan pigments at first, and then everything else

he doesn't tell her, but likes to match what she wears if he can

jesper likes clothes, loves waistcoats and bright colours and suspenders and hats and wylan likes them even more inej and nina find it hilarious when they see them and discover that wylan now dresses almost exactly like jesper

wylan reacts to this by trying to pay attention to what suits him, and he narrows the colours he chooses a bit, as his ruddy curls and blue eyes can clash with some of the things jesper pulls off magnificently with his dark zemeni skin

jesper enjoys wylan’s newfound interest in fashion immensely 

so eventually, they aren’t a bad looking crew to say the least
