Against Heaven and Hell~Yandere!Adam X Reader X Yandere!Lucifer
Hello, everybody! Welcome back to my Hazbin Hotel hyperfixation! Today I bring you a Yandere! Adam vs Yandere! Lucifer story. I think this one turned out alright but let me know what you think. As always, enjoy and have a great day/night!
Words: 1972
Warnings: Swearing, Adam being Adam, Car Crash, Contract Signing, Kidnapping
I bit my lip as I looked at myself in the full length mirror. The girls and I were going out tonight and I wanted to look my best. It had been a few months since we’d seen each other after all. I smoothed out my black and red plaid pants and fluffed my black dress shirt. Deciding I was presentable enough I walked to my kitchen. I grabbed my keys off the counter, put on my black bomber jacket and black boots, and walked out my apartment door. I locked the door behind me and continued my way to the elevator. Hitting the button for the first floor, I found myself tapping my foot as I waited.
Ding!
The doors opened and I walked out. I headed to the parking garage to the left of my apartment building and walked up the few flights of stairs to my car. Since I was the designated driver I made sure a few days before my vehicle was nice and tidy. I put on some tunes as I drove down several blocks before arriving near the center of the city. I parked on a side street and pulled out my phone, texting Ashley that I was ready for them. I scrolled through social media for a few minutes when there was a tap on my window. I looked up and saw Ashley, Shiloh and Tiffany standing there. I unlocked the doors and they all got in. “Hey, girl! Long time no see!” Ashley, sitting in the passenger seat, gave me a tight hug.
“It’s nice to see all of you too. Gosh, it feels like it’s been forever.”
“It really has. But no time is like the present as they say!” Tiffany piped up from the back seat.
We all nodded in agreement. “So, where should we go?”
“How about Tito’s? I heard they have a $3 special going on tonight.” Shiloh said.
“Tito’s it is then.”
With that I started the car and drove further into the city. We arrived at Tito’s around 7 pm and after parking the car, walked inside. The bar was quite busy that night with many couples sharing tables and others taking to the dance floor as a live band played. The four of us took to a booth across from the bar and ordered our drinks. The girls had gotten some classics like a gin and tonic, old fashioned and Manhattan while I just had my favorite soda. I was the designated driver after all. We sat and chatted for hours, and it soon was 10 pm and my friends were wasted. I struggled to carry all of them to the car as they giggled drunkenly, grasping onto me tightly. “Oh my god, Y/n! You’re so cute, you know that?” Shiloh said, giggling slightly.
“Yeah, yeah.”
I had to lean Tiffany and Shiloh against the back door as I struggled to put Ashley in. “Stop, Y/n! That tickles! Stop!”
I grunted as I managed to get her in with her seat belt on. Quickly I rounded to the back of the car and started to get Shiloh in. Tiffany slid to the ground and started to laugh uncontrollably. This was going to be a rough night.
It took about 15 minutes but I had finally gotten everybody in the car. I drove everybody back to Ashley’s apartment and started to unload them into the hallway. “Y/n, please stay. We can like have a big sleepover!” Ashley slurred.
“Sorry, honey. I’ve got work in the morning. But I’m sure Tiffany and Shiloh wouldn’t mind your company.”
I leaned down to the “Welcome” mat by Ashley’s door and grabbed the spare key. Unlocking the door, I dragged in all three girls. I placed Ashley on her armchair and Shiloh and Tiffany on the couch. Once I made sure they were all cozy, I snuck out before they could grab onto me. I made sure to replace the key under the mat before I walked back to my car.
The drive home was a bit chaotic. There were lots of people on the streets wandering around due to it being a Friday night and night life was hopping. I was placed out of my thoughts as my light turned green. I was in the middle of the intersection when suddenly my car was struck on the side by a much larger vehicle. I tried to regain control of the wheel as my stomach clenched, however, the car began to flip. I couldn’t even get a scream out as another car came and smashed into the front of mine. I could feel the car being slid across the road before slamming into a building. My head flew forwards and smacked into the wheel before flying back. My vision was doubling as I heard faint screams from the street. Just as my eyes began to close, I could have sworn I saw golden wings descending from the sky.
Before I even opened my eyes, I could feel warmth around me. It didn’t feel like a blanket or anything more like the Sun beaming down upon me. I slowly opened my eyes only to be blinded by bright light. Everything seemed to be overly saturated as I looked around and the gentle humming of violins filled the air. I sat up with a groan and held my head, a slight dull pain hitting it. What happened?
Suddenly, a set of double white doors flew open and revealed a tall, large man in a white, gold and purple robe, a demon looking mask on his face with black horns scraping behind his head. Beside him a smaller female with a black and white devilish mask, gray dress and white and black wings stood. “Ah good, you’re finally awake, babe.”
“Who are you?”
“Adam, first man. Autographs are extra, sweetheart. And this is Lute, my assistant.”
I just stared at him. What in the world? “Um, I hate to ask, but where am I?”
“You’re in Heaven, toots!”
“H-Heaven? You mean like Heaven and Hell Heaven?”
Adam’s yellow eyes rolled. “Duh! What other Heaven do you know of?”
My hands touched my chest and then my face. If I’m here does that mean-
“You’re not dead if that’s what you’re thinking.”
“Then how’d I get here? I thought only dead people saw the Pearly Gates?”
Adam’s smile grew wide and the sight of fangs alarmed me. “I may have pulled a few strings to get you here. Please hold the applause. You can thank me later.”
“Um, okay.”
“I’ll give you a few minutes to collect yourself, but don’t keep me waiting for too long.”
He snapped his fingers and the two left. When the doors closed, I took a few moments to breathe. What exactly happened? All I could remember was driving back home from Ashley’s apartment, getting into a huge car crash and golden wings descending from the sky. Could that have been Adam? But then did he know I was going to get into a wreck? Could angels predict that sort of stuff?
I shook my head and stood up from the bed I was on. Looking down I was in a light blue medical gown and my feet were bare. Was I in a hospital back on Earth? “You almost ready in there, babe? It’s been a while.”
“C-coming.”
“Not without me I hope.”
I stopped before the door. Did he say what I think he said? Whatever.
I opened it and stepped out. “Finally. Now come on, toots. Let the first man show you around!”
Before I could say anything, he slung a tight arm around my shoulders, and we walked off.
Heaven wasn’t quite what I expected. It was almost like the city I lived in just without what would be considered sin. Every angel smiled and waved as the three of us walked by and it was almost sickening how happy everybody was. “So how do you like Heaven, babe? Does it surpass your expectations?”
“I guess. I wasn’t really expecting to be here. How did I get here again?”
“That doesn’t matter. The important thing is that we’re together! Especially now that you’ve got a real man in your life!”
“Sir, you said you’d hold off on that information.”
“Oh what’s the big deal, Lute? Toots will be stuck here anyway.”
I stopped walking and the two turned to look at me. “Stuck here? What are you talking about? You said I wasn’t dead.”
“Not yet. But as soon as my favor goes through then you’re all mine, sweetheart.”
“F-favor? Are you going to kill me?!”
“Eh, sacrifices need to be made. But I can assure you my dick is good.” He winked.
“Get away from me!”
I bolted as fast as I could. “Lute, grab her!”
I could hear the flapping of wings as I continued to run. Just as I was rounding a corner, I could feel myself falling. It wasn’t fast but more like floating back to Earth. The light around me dissipated into a grayness and I felt myself land softly.
My eyes flickered open and it took me a few minutes to realize I was in a hospital room. I sat up quickly and looked around frantically. I couldn’t see any angels around, so I leaned back in bed. A knock sounded at the wooden door and in walked a short man with blonde hair. He had on a white dress shirt and red tie, white pants and black boots. He stopped by the side of my bed and a pleased smile graced his lips. “Thank goodness you’re alright. I thought you’d never wake up. You were in a coma for a few days.”
“You are?”
“Oh, forgive me, where are my manners? Dr Morningstar at your service. You were in quite the accident, little lady.”
“What happened?”
“From what we were told it was quite the fatal car crash. I’m not sure how it happened, but it seems like Heaven willed it to occur.”
He grit his teeth when he mentioned the glorious upstairs. Odd.
He went back to smiling at me and I couldn’t tell if it was the lighting, but his eyes appeared red. “The most important thing is we get you better. I’m sure your husband is worried about you.”
“Oh, I’m not married.”
“I see.”
His gaze dropped to my hand and I became uncomfortable with how long it lingered there. “Well, I’d better let you rest. I’ll be back later to check up on you.”
He bowed and exited the room, closing the door behind him. What is with today?
Over the next few weeks Dr Morningstar helped me recover. My friends came and visited a couple of times which was nice. I was told I could go home at any time soon. It was late one night when Dr Morningstar came into my room. “Alrighty then Y/n, I have your discharge papers right here.”
He handed me a stack of paperwork. “I just need you to sign the bottom.”
“Of course.”
I did as he said when suddenly the lights started to flicker. The room slightly shook as Dr Morningstar suddenly summoned a cane with an apple on top. “W-what’s going on?”
“You my dear, just signed your soul to me.”
“W-what?!”
“I didn’t want to trick you like this I promise, but it needed to be done. Adam was getting too close to you.”
How could he know about Adam?
“The douchebag spilled everything to me, trying to make me jealous I guess. But sad to say, you’re now mine.”
He walked closer and I attempted to run but was met with a whack to the head. “Sweet dreams, darling.”
My eyes couldn’t quite process the six wings and horns that my doctor gained as they closed.
Everything faded to black.

The dress was unmistakable, even from across the crowded room. The red fabric hardly stretched past your ass, and the sight of the skimpy clothing lit a flame inside of him. No amount of alcohol could lessen Rafe’s disdain for your blatant disobedience. Long legs took confident steps your direction, unbeknownst to you as your back faced away from him.
His feet stop right behind you, chest just shy of brushing against your back, careful not to give himself away right off the bat. Rafe leaned down, lips dangerously close to your ear as he spoke lowly, “Funny,” The way your frame jolted at the sound of his voice was evidence enough that he’d startled you.
A large hand came down on your shoulder, and Rafe used it to spin your body around. He didn’t move the hand when the two of you came face-to-face, only curled his fingers tighter around the skin as he continued, “coulda sworn I told you not to wear this…” his free hand hooked a finger around the fabric inbetween your tits, tugging on the neckline of the dress, causing you to stumble forward into him.
Your hands shot up, pressing against his strong chest instinctively to stop your fall. Rafe used the reflex to his advantage, moving to gain a tight hold on both of your wrists, giving you no option to pull away.
“I just, uh,” he laughed, but you both knew nothing was funny, “I just- it’s weird. Didn’t I…didn’t you leave the house in something different?”
You swallowed hard when your silence was met with the twisting of the skin on your arm.
“You just never listen, do you? What do I gotta do to make you listen to me?”
The question was rhetorical. Rafe wasn’t trying to brainstorm ideas with you, he was reminding you that this wasn’t your first time going against his wishes, against his demands.
You knew not leaving the house in the dress Rafe got you wasn’t a suggestion from the boy, but you took it as such, a suggestion that you didn’t heed. Because you made Rafe think you changed, he just didn’t know you’d brought the dress with you when you went to get ready at your friends.
The question must have been retorical, because Rafe left you no time to reply before he cut in again, “do you, do you not respect me? Huh? Is that it, is that what it is?”
You shook your head, eyes wide as they silently pleaded with the man who wasn’t even supposed to be here tonight.
Rafe offered you a leash, albeit short and irretractable, but a leash nonetheless to go out with your friends for once. You should’ve known it was only a test.
Of course, he couldn’t let you have that. He couldn’t let you have a night to yourself with friends.
Rafe moved to grab your arm, and you didn’t have time to process what was happening before you were being pulled away from the kitchen.
When your eyes finally shot up from where Rafe’s hand was wrapped around you, you were much closer to the front door.
“Let’s go,” Rafe dragged you behind him, forcing you to follow as he headed up the stairs. You had to move fast to keep up with his long strides. Surely, other kooks were watching, noticing the uncomfortable looking hold your arm was subjected to, but no one dared to challenge the only son of Ward Cameron.
You tried to tug your arm back into yourself, but Rafe was stronger than you.
“Rafe, I’m sorry!” You hated apologizing to your boyfriend, you felt like it was all you ever did. Most conversations with Rafe ended up warranting an apology on your part in some capacity. You tried to plead your case, “you just paid s-so much money for it, and I didn’t wanna waste it…”
He scoffed, relinquishing his grip in favor of eyeing you down, as if he was weighing your claim.
The scales seemed to tip more towards the ‘bullshit’ side. “Hmm, cute…but you know money’s not a problem, baby.”
A hand snaked behind your head, disappearing into your hair as his fingernails softly grazed your scalp.
The gentle touch took a cruel turn when the same fingers curled inward, now fisting the hair at the nape of your neck and yanking you closer to him, “you just wanna be disrespectful.”
You drew in a sharp breath, immediately pressing all of your weight into your tip-toes in an attempt to alleviate some of the pain of your boyfriend’s harsh hold. “No, Rafe I-I wasn’t trying to disrespect you-!”
Your protests were ignored as Rafe pushed through the door, the familiar truck catching your gaze.
His lip curled inward, eye twitching as he seethed down at you. He asked, lowly, “my attention not good enough for you?”
You didn’t know what to say, because in truth, you weren’t hoping to garner the attention of other boys on the island when you smuggled the dress past the threshold of Tannyhill.
All you could think about was wanting to feel good about yourself for once. You couldn’t even remember the last time your boyfriend made you feel beautiful, special, desireable.
Sure, Rafe would offer you compliments, tell you how pretty you were, how beautiful you’d look with his babies inside of you, on his good days. But that was only because he was smart.
He did it because he knew he had to. Not because he wanted to, not because those thoughts genuinely filled his mind when he looked at you. Rafe knew he had to offer some sort of solice to make up for the abusive behavior he was constantly exerting on you.
“Nothin’ to say?” He shook you roughly, and your lips parted as you sucked in a shaky breath.
“Baby, I’m sorry. I-I didn’t…I don’t-,”
Rafe suddenly released his grip on you, but you couldn’t let the air out of your lungs until he finally turned away. It was always harder to breathe around an angry Rafe.
You had no emotional capacity to give into any sexual advances from Rafe, but you could only assume that’s what was on his mind when he spun back around, grabbed you, and started tugging you towards the car.
You weren’t surprised that the ride offered nothing but silence and thick tension on the way back to Tannyhill. But you were surprised when Rafe didn’t immediately drag you upstairs and shove you onto the bed.
He was quiet as he led you into the estate, not even sparing so much as a glance your way until he finally heard you shut the front door behind you.
“Go to your room.” He spoke curtly as he turned to face you. The glare he offered was meant to intimidate you, and it worked instantly.
You stood still, confused by the demand. “W-what…?”
Rafe practically cut you off, “did I stutter?”
You shrunk in on yourself when the space between you two was lessened. Your boyfriend was even more intimidating when he was this close. He was so much taller, so much bigger than you.
“I said, go to your room,” spoken as if he couldn’t believe you thought his words needed clarification.
You knew Rafe didn’t like repeating himself, but he’d thrown you totally off guard when you got into the house. “My…my room?”
“Yes,” he drawled out sarcastically, like a parent when their child finally connects two things together, “now you’re getting it.”
“But-,”
“Do I need to drag you up there? Huh? You gonna make me do this the hard way?”
You matched his step forward with a slight stumble backwards, “n-no I…I just-,”
Rafe’s patience ran dry, advancing on you before you could even register the movement of his feet.
Without warning, he grabbed you by your face and shoved you back onto the stairs, elbows forced to break your fall as your back arched against the steps.
“Get your ass upstairs now, before I do something I really don’t wanna do.”
He paused, eyes raking over your outfit again, a look of digust written all over his face. “And take that fuckin’ dress off,” a rough hand plucked at the sweetheart neckline of the dress, “I don’t wanna see you out in it again. You understand me?”
He spoke lowly, tone laced with a finality that left no room for protests, only allowing for a nod of your head in response.
Normally, Rafe would’ve scolded you for acting as if your brains could rattle instead of using your words, but he could see the fear in your eyes, and he didn’t want to take things there tonight. He had a different kind of punishment on his agenda.
Maintaining eye contact, you slowly climbed backwards up a step or two before finally turning yourself around and scrambling up the remainder of the stairs.
When you dared to steal a glance back over your shoulder, the sight of your boyfriend staring you down from the bottom of the steps sent a chill through you. It was enough to force your feet further up the stairs, all the way to your shared bedroom.
The first thing your teary eyes noticed was the time on your digital clock. 8:22pm. On a Saturday night.
You’d assumed Rafe would want to force himself on you, probably use your mouth for his sole pleasure in retaliation for your actions at the party, but he chose to punish you psychologically instead.
Making you leave the party, dragging you home and sending you to bed early was his way of showing you who really held the cards and the power in the relationship.
Rafe could order you around, send you to your room like a child whose been grounded, and you wouldn’t protest. How could you? What could you do when the man you considered challenging was so much stronger, bigger than you? You’d surely tire yourself out fighting him off before he would. You knew from past experience. Fighting Rafe’s demands never got you far. Or anywhere at all, really.
You heard the living room TV click on sometime after you’d changed out of the dress.
The smell of weed wafted its way up the stairs and to your nose, even through the closed door. Tearfully, reluctantly, you executed the remainder of your night time routine before finally crawling into bed.
It was a little past 10 o’clock at this point, and you assumed Rafe wouldn’t be joining you in bed that night.
Laying with your boyfriend, having him close to you, having him as a source of comfort after the mental toll he’d taken on you would be too contradicting to the punishment, of course.
You weren’t sure when you ended up falling asleep, but your tears had long stained your silk pillowcase by the time you finally gave up on waiting, and succumed to the darkness for the night.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You sat perched on the barstool, eyes wandering towards the familiar doors that led to the kitchen. The tables in his section were full so you sit at the bar.
There, you waited for the bartender to show up, staring down at your nails as you wait and began to wonder why the hell you didn’t paint them. You hear footsteps approach, shoes scuffing on the carpet behind the counter as the bartender— the brother— stepped up with a familiar smile, “Hi, there! What can I get for you?”
“Uh, can I get a Tito’s and lemonade?” You ask, thinking of the first drink you remember your friends loving.
He nodded, “For sure!” and grabbed a glass to fill with ice, and then asked to check your ID. “Awesome— Texas lemonade coming right up.” He nodded and handed it back to you, his attitude much more outgoing than Eddie’s had been, though both men were perfectly personable.
He set to work making your drink silently, nothing but the swish and rattle of the drink being poured over ice and the idle chatter of the dining room to be heard.
Your eyes scanned the room, checking all the moving bodies for that familiar head of hair, wondering if he was even here, for all you knew he could’ve quit by now.
“—Looking for someone?” The bartender asked. His name tag read Dakota.
You swallow and shake your head before looking down, “Oh! No, not at all.”
Dakota chuckled, “You sure? Your eyes are practically peeled.” He sat your drink in front of you and smiled.
“Thank you.” Is all you say before taking a tentative sip and trying not to wince at the tartness.
“Well, if you need anything, let us know.” He said before slipping away and into the kitchen.
You groan to yourself before resting your head on your fist and stirring the drink with the skinny straw you never use.
Absolutely pathetic. You sit and berate yourself for a minute, concluding that you’d drink half the glass before asking for some water to drive home.
“Long time, no see!”
Your head popped up to find Eddie behind the bar, walking towards you. Looking at you. Speaking to you.
You were at another loss for words, your mouth gaping and closing involuntarily as you searched for something to say. Eddie’s smile grew as you struggled and he leaned over the counter behind the bar. “I was hoping I’d see you again.” He muttered with twinkling eyes.
Your eyes flicker up to his, your heart warming and chest unclenching, “Oh?” You suddenly play coy, “Why is that?” you say, and take a drink.
Eddie’s eyes brightened at that, “Well, you’re the most polite customer I’ve had in months!” His eyes ran down your being. He snickered at your blush, leaning closer on his elbows as his brother left the kitchen with a platter in hand— working Eddie’s tables. “Not to mention the cutest.” He winked with that smug smile.
You give a breathy chuckle before you take another swig, earning a genuine laugh from him as you set down the half empty glass.
“Are you nervous?” He asked quietly, pressing back up on his hands, somehow even closer and not close enough. He oozed confidence and cool, like he did this all the time. Like he was so used to girls practically swooning for him, unable to speak.
You could only nod in response.
“Well, why’s that?” He shrugged, eyes trailing down your face as he appraised you.
You swallow and hope it wasn’t too loud, “I’m here to meet someone.” You cringe inside of yourself, what the fuck? This isn’t the plan??
“Oh.” His smug grin falls along with the twinkle in his eye. You hate how it makes you feel inside to see him disappointed.
“A friend.” You shrug. His eyes perk at that.
“Just a friend? —I mean, like, i-is your mom coming too?” He faltered, your smile rising as his cheeks reddened and he cleared his throat nervously before looking away.
“Mhm. Just a friend. Though my mom will be thrilled to hear Eddie from Chili’s asked about her.” You smile at the sound of his laugh.
“So you do remember me?” He asks with a smile of relief.
You nod shyly at your glass, stirring the water with the other useless straw. “Kinda hard not to.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He leans on his hands, hoping you’ll keep talking.
You sigh and roll your eyes before meeting his gaze, “You’re a … a really good waiter.” You settle.
Eddie chuckles heartily, something you wanted to hear over and over and over again. “Thank you, I try my best. My goal is ultimate customer satisfaction.” He widens his eyes for emphasis and takes note on your hitched breath. “So is there anything else I can get for you?”
“Oh! Uh…”
He watches you as he picks up a menu and sets it down in front of you. “I could just bring you some chicken fingers while you wait.” You look back up at him under your eyelashes, “Four of them, right?” He asked with a hidden smile as your cheeks burned.
“No, no it’s okay, I’m not hungry.” You shake you head. Eddie cocks his to the side in question but takes the menu back without a word.
“Well, uh,” he began as another patron sat down at the bar on the other side, “—I’ll be right back!” He said, happy for an excuse to leave and stay close.
You let out a sigh of relief as he walked up to the older man, easily striking up a conversation as he took his order and went about pouring something dark into a short glass.
Your phone chimes as a message comes in from your best friend, asking for a progress report. Before you can type a coherent response, you manage to send a thumbs up paired with a melting face as Eddie walks back over to you.
“Is there anything I can get started for your friend?” He asks. You put your phone face down on the bar, meeting his eye as the perfect excuse comes to mind, “No, actually, she isn’t coming.”
Eddie tsks though it’s apparent he isn’t bummed to keep you to himself for the rest of your stay. “Well, ain’t that a shame.”
You nod down at the counter top again before the words came spilling out of you unwillingly, “—Actually she wasn’t ever coming. I lied.” You feel like you’re going to throw up. Like actually. Your stomach knots itself, ready for the cute boy in front of you to look at you in disgust and have you escorted out for harassment or something.
“Oh?” Is all he asked, leaning on his forearms, getting closer to you.
You nod shamefully.
“So you did come for me?” He clarified.
You close your eyes as the blush worked up your cheeks, giving into your smile as you nod, again, but smaller. “That’s what you care about? Not that I lied?”
Eddie’s own smile grew, “Well, you’re a shy little thing, I don’t blame you.” He winked at your burning cheeks as he leaned closer, lowering his voice and letting you peek at the man behind the cool facade, “But, if you would’ve asked for my number, or left yours on the receipt like I wanted you to,” he chided, “I would’ve called, y’know. Or answered.” He shrugged.
You manage to look at him— really, look at him. The unease in your body began to uncoil as you observed how he looked at you; not like a meal, but with intrigue.
“And what if I asked for it now?”
“I don’t think you’d call me.” He shook his head with a knowing smile.
You scoff and ask, “Why not?”
He gave you a pointed look and let his neck go limp a little as if to say ‘really?’
“Okay, wrong question—well, if you wanted my number, why didn’t you ask for it?” You ask as you twist your glass idly on the coaster, trying not to look as curious as you felt.
“Pfft, yeah, and freak you out? Be the weird skeezy waiter— at a Chili’s, no less? Uh-uh. I’m above that.” He shook his head assuringly. You chuckle and look down at the cubes floating in your glass.
“I’ve never had to try to get a number here before,” He began, his eyes on the wood you’d been so focused on for the duration of your visit, “— kinda just happens for me, so… I was counting on that receipt having a name and number on it but…” he tsked and shook his head pointedly at you, “—Nope! Nada. Just a fat tip from your mom—which I totally appreciate, by the way.”
Your cheeks redden, “So…do you want me to ask for your number…?” You ask in confusion.
“Actually, I think I should ask for yours.” He said, idly wiping at the counter, “Since you’re scared.” He teased.
Your mouth gaped, “I’ll have you know I can be very courageous.”
He snickered down at the counter before looking back up at you, “Courageous enough to join me on my break in about ten minutes?” He nodded back into the kitchen.
You exhale, “Am I.. allowed?”
“—Yes, you’re allowed.” He scoffed and pushed your drink forward. “C’mon, Chicken Fingers, drink your liquid courage, and I’ll show you where I go hide about 10 times a day.”
“Ch-Chicken fingers??” You question, leaning forward with wide eyes and an incredulous smile struggling to be shoved away by the corners of your mouth and failing miserably.
Eddie beamed as you chuckled, a blush of his own warming his cheeks, “Well, I don’t know your name, so,” he shrugged, “It was either that or Quiet Quinn.” He managed with a plain face.
You narrow your eyes at the man until he breaks into laughter, the sound charming enough to make you smile along with him before you told him your name and he smiled again and reached out his hand for yours, clasping it firmly, “Nice to meet you, I’m Eddie.”
“I know.” You chuckle as you shake his hand.
“Ooh, I’ve never had a stalker before— how flattering.” He almost purred as he kept your hand in his, running his thumb over the back of your hand as he laid it on the counter and made no move to let it go.
You scoff and roll your eyes, letting him keep your hand, “My moms been hounding me about coming back for the last month.” You roll your eyes and take a sip.
“Oh, you’ve been talking about me with your mom?” He asks.
You wanna spit out the drink but instead your eyes widen and you tip it back farther until you finish it with a hardy gulp and set it down. “I’ll be taking the check now.” You say shamefully, closing your eyes.
You open them when you hear his laughter again, watching as he releases your hand and takes your cup, “That won’t be necessary, sweetheart.” He says it, even though he now knows your name, and begins to wash the glass.
You watch him quietly, the way the water splatters on his forearms and how his rings look when they’re glittering under the added shine and clanking against the glass he cleaned. “So what do you do?” He asked as he collected the old man’s glass without as much as a glance to him.
You jump slightly after being so dialed into his movements you have to quickly piece together your response, “Oh! Well, I’m in school for graphic design. And I work at a chiropractor's office scheduling people and whatnot.”
You study how he clutches the towel in his hand and turns the knobs of the sink before turning to dry the glass. “A secretary slash designer,” he mused as he polished the glass in his hands, “So you’re creative and good with computers, I’ll jot that down.” He smiled as he looked back up at you.
“What about you?” You ask as he puts away the glass and prints a ticket to hand to the gentleman waiting patiently. Eddie slides it over and watches at the man digs out cash and some change. You watch as he smiles and thanks the old man before sliding the cash off the table and scraping the coins into his hand and counting it before shoving it in the register.
Almost forgetting you asked a question, you watch as he washes his hands again and begins to replenish the supply of lime wedges—something you suppose is his brother's job. Maybe they switched jobs a lot because Eddie moved about the bar with an ease that felt practiced.
“Well, when I’m not being the world's best waiter, I work at a body shop installing glass on cars, sometimes some side jobs pulling dents if I can get ‘em.” He shrugged as he sliced them into perfect wedges.
You nod, “Do you like it?”
“Makes good money! Lets me do the stuff I’d rather be doing.” He chuckles to himself. You cock your head slightly before he finished putting the rest of it away and turning to the computer as he dried his hands again.
You watch him press a few buttons on the screen before it printed your ticket and he threw it away in the trash below and sent you one of those dazzling winks of his.
He leans forward on his elbows again, “Ready, Chicken Fingers?” He asks before glancing to his brother, busy taking an order at one of his corner tables.
You roll your eyes and glower with a poorly repressed smile as you give him a timid nod and hop off the seat.
Eddie walks around the counter, waiting for you at the kitchen doors. He takes your hand and guides you, opening the door and keeping you close, your hand fitting perfectly in his. He kept a firm hold on you as he dodged people in black and white, more people than you thought could fit back here.
“Hey, Eddie!” A line cook greeted him.
Eddie shot the guy a charming smile and wave with his free hand without stopping, “How’s it going, Hal?” He called before facing forward again, headed for the black door at the back.
The man answered Eddie but he didn’t care to continue the conversation, he just wanted out of there— wanted you out of there.
He opened the door to the back, where the dumpster resided with walls surrounding it— keeping divers from picking through their trash, you suppose.
Eddie lets go of your hand to reach for his carton of cigarettes, “You smoke?” He asked as he pulled one out.
You shake your head, “Sorry, no.”
Eddie pauses before idly flicking his lighter twice, “Don’t be! You mind if I…“ he gestures to the stick and bic in his hands.
“No! No, go for it. I don’t mind it, just never tried it.” You assure as he burned the end of the cigarette til it glowed. His cheeks hollowed as he sucked and nodded.
“Don’t ever do it!” He warned, mumbling around the filter before pulling it away, “You’re too pretty to smell like an ashtray.” Smoke slithered out of his mouth around his teeth as he spoke and stepped forward, blowing the rest of it to the side and waving it away from you and taking another pull and keeping his eyes on yours.
He was so close you had to look up at him, your bottom lip hiding between your teeth for a moment before releasing it. “Doesn’t stop you.” You quip almost proudly.
Eddie looked impressed, “Ooh! That was smooth, pretty girl.” He blew his smoke up into the sky, exposing the adams apple jutting out of his thick neck, oh so perfectly.
You wanted so badly to know what it felt like against your lips…
Caressed under your loving hand…
His face tilted back down to yours, a brilliant smile stretching across his face bit by bit. “You think I’m pretty?” He asked. You nod, a vacant smile on your lips, “Or is it the alcohol talking?” His brows pinched in the middle as he leaned down closer to you, as if to examine you for drunkenness.
You roll your eyes and cross your arms, “It was one drink! Besides— I thought you were pretty ever since I first saw you.”
“You been thinking about how pretty I am?” He asked in false curiosity.
That bashful smile crossed your face again before you nodded, “I already told you that.” You look down again and notice how he takes another small step forward.
“I’ve been thinking about you too.” He smiled, the scent of his citrus cologne was muddled with the ribbons of cigarette smoke he blew into the air around you. The warm and spicy scent practically swarmed you the second he got closer, and you never wanted to smell anything else again.
“Why?” You shake your head.
“Cause I have that same Nirvana shirt you wore.” He shrugged one shoulder and your heart sank. “Like it better on you though.” He added.
You peek back up at him, brows raised in question as your eyes flicker from his eyes to his lips. “How do I know this isn’t something you just ‘do’?” You ask, crossing your arms and looking away from his stupid, handsome face.
“What, talk to pretty girls? I do all the time, it’s part of my job.” He took a toke, talking about the pretty girls he served like art on a wall he’s seen a dozen times. “But I can honestly say I haven’t brought any of them to my secret hiding spot.” He shrugged easily, no sign of defense lining his tone. “—Not to mention had any of them swallow their tongue at the sight of me and still come back! Maybe you are courageous, Chicken Fingers.”
You roll your eyes and push his chest playfully, sending him backwards a couple steps. He chuckled as he recovered and you crossed your arms with another smile you didn’t realize you wore, “So now what?” You look around the area, stray garbage littering the wet ground and the scent of the meat cooking on the grill wafting out of vent on top of the building.
“Depends.” Eddie takes another puff on the dwindling menthol.
You tilt your head, cocking it to the side and shift your weight to your hip, narrowing your eyes the slightest bit and appraising him, “On?” You scoff with a playful smile.
“On… if you wanna go on a date with me.” He rocked on his heels and threw the butt on the ground, almost hiding under his curly bangs.
You smiled and nodded, “…and if I say yes?” You can’t help but glance to his lips again as he smiled, shuffling forward, only inches away from your face.
“If you say yes… I can guarantee you’ll have the time of your life.” He analyzed your face, searching for the same hesitation that riddled your being the last time he saw you.
He didn’t find a trace of it. You kept your eyes on him, not shying away from his gaze.
“Then I say… we should go out sometime.” You smile shyly.
Eddie’s mouth hangs open in pleasant surprise, his eyes twinkled in excitement. “Ohh, you are smooth! How could I say no to that?” As if you’d asked him out in the first place.
If he were to get any closer your chests would be touching, he’d have to straddle his feet on either side of yours—getting that close he’d have you against the wall of the restaurant.
And you wanted him to, so badly.
He leaned down to your ear, “You gonna show me the time of my life?” He asked lowly.
You inhale deeply, trying not to shudder at the way his breath grazed your neck and ear, and nod, “I’ll give it my best.” You said almost breathily.
Eddie chuckles softly as he leaned back to appraise you, tracing your collar with his finger before curling it into the ends of your hair and twirling a strand for a moment, savoring the texture.
His gaze turned more serious as his other hand came up to your other shoulder for a warm and affectionate squeeze before he tsked, “I gotta get back in there, pretty girl.” He said glumly.
You nod understandingly, “Yeah, I should head out too.”
He nodded again at you and his eyes dipped down to your lips again, lingering like he had at your table a month ago. “I, uh, I can walk you to your car.” He nodded towards the gate in the wall, an almost shut padlock through the metal rings to keep it closed.
“Yes, please.” You say softly.
Eddie’s hands leave your shoulders, with a smirk, “So polite—y’know you say please more than anyone I’ve ever met.” He chuckles, taking your hand to lead the way around to the customer parking, only releasing it once to open the gate for you and shut it back.
The walk was quiet, and you relished the feeling of his hand in yours again. You refrained from holding onto his arm with both hands, wanting his hand in both of yours as you arrived at your car.
“This is it.” You say, coming to a stop in front of the hood. He nods at you, still keeping your hand in his.
“Well, thank you for coming back.” He smiled at your sheepish grin and stroked the back of your hand, “I look forward to seeing you again.” He added.
“You too.” You say cordially before squeezing his hand and turning to go before you can throw up everywhere.
“Wait a minute!” He tugged you back to face him, “I still need your phone number.” He pulled out his phone and promptly unlocked it, opening his messages and starting a new thread for you to put your number in. “Unless you wanna come back, again.” He smiled, charming the socks off you yet again.
You take it from him and type your number, noticing his use of a cute emoji next to your misspelled name. You chuckle to yourself and fix it for him, reading it all back to yourself twice before calling it good and hand it back to him, watching as he smiles at the screen.
“Fuck, strike one, huh?” He blushes and looks up from the screen as his thumbs hovered over the keyboard.
You chuckle and dismiss it with a wave, “Nothing that hasn’t happened before. Now is it Eddie with two E’s or three?” You question playfully and watch as he bites the inside of his cheek and sigh.
“It’s actually three E’s, an I, and one D— in that order.” He types a message before locking it and putting it back in his pocket.
You’re giving him a real laugh, and an eye squinting, cheek aching, smile that has him smiling right back at you as the chime of your phone in your pocket goes off and you just can’t stop smiling at him, your cheeks burning but loving every second.
You see the way he looks at you, like he wants to say something, maybe— looking kinda bummed, even. You flutter your eyelashes at him before tilting your head, “Is there anything else I can get for you?” You say just above a whisper, your heart pounding so hard you don’t know if you’re trembling or not.
Eddie’s smile quirks up higher on one side as that twinkle reappears in his pupils, licking his lips with a knowing in his eye that said he knew what he wanted, he just couldn’t say it. He just stared at your lips for a moment longer before shaking his head dejectedly.
“Are you sure?” You ask again, shamelessly looking at his lips before meeting his eyes again.
He parted his lips before he leaned in slightly he hears his name called across the lot, “Get back in here, man, Damon’s gonna be here any minute!” His brother hollered from the door.
“Just a second!” He turned away to call back, his hand still in yours. You decide the moment he turns back to you, you’re gonna go for it— you’re gonna kiss him.
“Sorry, he’s worried about our manager coming—“ You watch intently as he turns back to you, taking his other hand in yours before pushing up on your toes to press a lingering kiss to the corner of his mouth, tingles surging up through your body.
You pull away as he freezes, alarmed. Your eyes widened, “Oh my god, is that not what you wanted me to do? I’m so sorry, I—“
He interrupts you by cradling your face in his hands, your face suddenly so warm in his touch. His hands were so soft and the rings were barely cool to the touch as he pressed them to your face in his gentle hold.
“—No! No, I mean, yes! Yeah, that’s what I wanted, just…“ his thumb brushes your bottom lip and your chest heaves as he pulls you in close and presses his lips squarely on yours, kissing you deep and slow before releasing your lips with a pop and lingering close to your face as the haze he cast out wrapped you up in warmth and content.
“—Oughta hold me over til I see you next. And you better text me, okay? Don't make me wait a month.” He warned.
You smile and nod as he releases your face.
“I work here every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday— noon til closing, in case you miss me too much.” He winked before pressing another kiss to your mouth and running across the lot as his brother stuck his head out the door to yell at him again.
You watch him until he’s back inside, breathless before sighing to yourself as you dig out your keys and hop in your car. When the engine turns over and your playlist connects to Bluetooth, you unlock your phone to find a message waiting for you from an unknown number.
You smile and tap on it, ready to add him to your contacts as ‘Eddie 🖤’, when you read the message you can’t help but let your head fall back and bring your knees to your chest as a Lizzie McAlpine song plays.
Eddie 🖤:

You blush, your heart swelling with the growing hope he’s as dorky and sweet on the side as he is handsome and gritty on the outside.
Another message came in just as you were about to type a response:
This is Eeeid, by the way. 😘

Owed It | Jack Hughes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you’re less than happy with how things ended between you and Jack so when the Devils come to Vancouver to play you decide to give him a piece of your mind, but what happens when he has the same idea?
request: yes/no
warnings: sexual themes, p in v, face riding, use the of the word slut once, swearing.
word count: 2.25k
authors note: I sort of merged a request of some prompts for Jack and a part 2 of Misconceptions and Confrontations. Although I have left it on a cliff hanger I’m not going to make this into a full blown series which is why there hasn’t been a Masterlist made for this.
pt 1 | pt 3
Tumblr media
To say you were surprised when he showed up at your door it was an understatement.
After your conversations died down in December you pushed him to the back of your mind. Sure it was hard at first as you missed staying up until the late hours of the night giggling as you would be on FaceTime with Jack. But when Tito moved to the Canucks within a month of things pretty much ending with Jack you didn't complain. The Quebec native was fun, sure you two hadn't done anything under your clothing yet but that didn't mean that there weren't a few shared kisses when you two got far too drunk for your own goods or after big games as your own celebration for him.
The Canucks player had come over to grab his suit jacket that had he had left after you two went to watch a movie "thanks again," he smiled as you walked him to the door.
The gesture was innocent as he placed his hand on the small of your back "don't mention it," you shook your head as you opened your front door "Jack?" Your eyes went wide as the two of you were met with the middle Hughes boy.
Jack mirror your reaction as he looked at Tito. The boys had met each other on numerous occasions when the Canadian was still with the Islanders "Beauvillier," he scowled as he sent the older boy a glare.
The creased shirt on the Canucks player was not helping your cause, because to the untrained eye it seriously looked like you were letting him out after you two spent the night together.
Tito wasn't one to be scared of Jack or most players for that matter but the look that he was receiving would have made him a dead man if looks could kill "I guess this is my queue to leave," he murmured as he gave you a side hug before the older boy scurried out of your apartment.
The Devils player was still trying to comprehend what he had just seen "what the fuck?" Jack let out an exasperated gasp as you pulled him into your apartment.
You let out a growl "keep your voice down," you grumbled as it was barely eight o'clock in the morning.
It caused the boy to scoff "so now you care about if others can hear you?" The hockey player shook his head as he placed his hands on his jean pockets.
The comment caused you to grow irritated "last time I checked you are not in the position to parent me," you shot back as your eyes went into a glare.
It pissed you off how nonchalant the boy was "you're the one who left me on read," Jack had been left hurt after you ignored his question asking if you were planning on joining Quinn for the Hughes Christmas family dinner, an event that she was always an honorary guest to.
You grabbed the orange juice from the counter that you had been drinking "you're the one who decided that you wanted to see other people," you pointed out as you waved your finger at him "and I'm not one for sharing." Your voice was a low grumble as you brought the glass to her lips.
Jacks once irritated look was now a smirk "were you jealous?" He asked as he knew you were talking about the rumours that he had gotten back with his ex girlfriend.
The reminder of what happened lit a fire beneath you "you know I actually missed you," you scoffed as you couldn't believe that you wanted to see him.
You saw why you hated him so much back then.
The devils player rubbed his hand against his jaw "I missed you too," he blurted out as he walked over to where you were in the kitchen
"Bullshit," you blurted out as you sent him a glare.
The Hughes brother placed his hands on your hips as he pulled you closer to him "come sit on my face and I'll show you how much I missed you." He murmured as his lips were a mere few inches from your own.
Darting your eyes from his down to his lips your voice went croaky "Jack," you mumbled as you kissed him.
Oh how you missed the feeling of those lips on yours. Weirdly enough though the the amount of hatred in it was next to nothing when compared to the first time he kissed you, dare to say it but it was almost like there was a hint of love in this kiss.
As Jack pulled away from you he caught your lower lip in between his teeth as he gave it a small tug "where's your bedroom princess?" He asked as he cocked his head.
Your furrowed your eyebrows almost like you were confused by what he was hinting at "end of the hallway," you let out a soft gasp as you realised what he was hinting to.
So like any horny girl, you locked your hand with his as you pulled him in the direction of your room "you're so eager," the hockey player teased as he reached under your baggy shirt that was clearly one of Quinn’s as he helped you out of your panties.
As you stepped out of them you couldn’t help but roll your eyes "fuck off," you warned as you shook your head.
Jacks lips turned into a pout "that's not very nice," he had this shit eating grin as he sat on your bed bringing you closer by your shirt.
With his other hand he let it trail over your slit "god Jack just," your voice was breathy as you tried to grind on the individual finger.
The boy lay down flat on your bed "come here," he motioned for you to join him on the bed.
But when you only sat next to him he wasn’t happy "up here honey," Jack tapped his lips as he hooked his hand behind your leg helping move you closer.
As you hovered above his face you couldn’t help but remember why you were so irritated "you got a lot of ner-" you were quickly cut off when Jacks tongue darted inside of you.
You never really thought that Jack was the kind of boy to be a munch but god were you wrong "right there," you groaned as his nose continued to knock your clit.
The sensations were something that you weren’t used to. Sure you had been eaten out before but never like this "fuck!" Your one had gripped at the headboard as your other locked onto his hair.
Jacks eyes never left yours “so good," you moaned as you continued to grind on his face.
His lips moved with a pop as he replaced it with his fingers "you like this don't you?" He asked in a teasing tone.
You nodded as you watched him move back to his original position "yes Jack," you repeated your words as he kissed your clit "fuck yeah I do," your voice was broken as you tried to remain calm.
The smirk on his face was clear and you had to break him "this is what you've been missing out on," your comment drew a moan from his lips.
Playing with fire seemed to be your forte "what Tito had been getting whenever he wanted." You cooed as you forced him by his hair to make him look at you.
You got your wish of pissing him off "off," Jack tapped your thigh as he pulled his mouth away from your clit.
The build to your high was quick to become unraveled "wha-" you grew surprised.
He repeated his words "get off.”
Not wanting to piss him off you listened "I'm gonna fuck you so hard that you'll forget that guys name." Jack warned as he sat up to kiss your lips.
You loved the way that you could taste yourself on his lips "you want me to forget Tito?" You asked making sure that you put more effort into the boys name.
It caused Jacks eyes to grow dark "see that you've still got that mouth on you," he murmured as he ran his thumb over your lower lip.
Nodding with a smirk "would never lose it for you," you explained as the boy pulled your top over your head.
Jack let out this guttural groan "missed these," he reached out to cup your bare breasts.
It drew a giggle from your lips "just my boobs?" You asked as the hockey player got up.
The boy tucked your hair behind your ear "missed all of you," he placed a kiss on your lips.
You watched as he grabbed a condom from his jeans "you knew what was gonna happen didn't you?" A scoff fell from your lips as he nodded.
He smirked as he pulled his shirt off of his head "cause my baby is my cock hungry slut," Jack rolled the condom over his cock “want you on all fours," he added as he motioned for you to flip over.
Your lips form a pout "got a thing for not seeing my face?" You teased as you let out a giggle.
Jack was surprised that you made that comment no matter how playful your voice was "thought you didn't want me to see your face when you came.” He explained as he pulled you closer now deciding that missionary was going to be the preferred position.
His cock teased your clit before he thrusted inside of you “you gonna be a good girl and take it for me?” Jack asked as his thumbs teased your breasts.
The moan you released was your worst enemy “not a big challenge,” you were proud of yourself for getting the words out.
They seemed to egg Jack on as he pulled your legs over his shoulders. It gave him access to fuck you in a much deeper angle “you liking that don’t you?” He smiled when your face scrunched up as his hand went to your clit.
You wanted to reach up to hit him but as he increased his pace it caused your hand to land on your boob “god,” you groaned letting your fingers tease the nipple.
Jack loved the way that you were so responsive to his actions. Sure other girls had been like that in bed with him before but this all felt different.
The girl that he had been pining over since he was a kid. Yes you thought he hated you but of course your mothers were right, Jack had liked you from the moment he saw you on that swing. The reason why he pulled you off of it? That’s simply because you weren’t listening to him.
You let out a moan “you’re so good Jacky,” you cried out as you made grabby hands at him.
It might have been a childish gesture but you missed the feeling of his lips on yours “my little girl wants a kiss?” He asked as he let his lips hover above yours. The angle that he was now thrusting into caused him to be best friends with your g-spot.
Given the new level of pleasure that you were felling all you could do was nod. And luckily for you Jack wasn’t in the mood to tease you. So his lips went on yours as his tongue swiped across your lower lip as he wanted to feel the feeling of his tongue fighting with yours.
When you let out a moan you granted his wish. Jack swore that the moment forced your head into the mattress that he loved you. Seeing you in the position that you were in made him feel like he was on cloud nine “I’m gonna come,” you announced as the boys motions on your clit quickly sped up.
He wanted you to see reach your high first because Jack was literally seconds behind you “go on my pretty girl.” The hockey player smiled as he kissed your neck.
It was crazy how that little moment caused your orgasm to not only come but also it hit you like a truck.
You repeated a string of “oh my gosh” as your pussy almost suffocated his cock “this pussy was made for me fuck,” Jack cursed as his high was met shortly after yours was.
The boy let out a soft laugh as he took in your sensitive state, it was like that simply didn’t change from the previous time you two spent together.
As he slid out of you your body shuddered “sorry honey,” he apologised as he hook his fingers under your jaw so that he could place a peck on your lips.
But when your phone went off you two each looked at the other with wide eyes.
Quinn x: I’ll be up in three minutes
Quinn x: Got you breakfast.
Sure you shouldn’t have been surprised by this, it was your tradition before every home game “fuck,” you groaned as you quickly got up.
You didn’t seem to care that your legs felt like jelly as you quickly tried to get ready “what?” Jack asked as he hadn’t gotten a chance to see the messages.
You didn’t get a chance to answer his question when you heard the front door open “I’m here!” Quinn called out as he shut the door behind him.
You and Jack were now truly fucked.

slowly, then all at once
author's note: i'm going through some shit and needed to alleviate it with fluff and also it's mat's birthday (or at least it was when i started this)! EDIT: this takes place in an alternative TATGYLB universe bc went an ENTIRELY different direction with this series (because i don't plan well lolol). (stole the title from the fault in our stars because that book had me in a CHOKEHOLD at 14)
pairing: mat barzal x reader
warnings: none? cursing?
summary: the stages of mat falling in love with you
Tumblr media
mat saw how you were with ella, the way you'd smile and talk to her like she could hold a conversation. or the way you never chided him or condescended to him when he did something completely stupid.
which is more than what he could say about his teammates.
so when he heard your piece of shit boyfriend screaming at you over the phone? or when he showed up unannounced and trying to "win you back?"
mat was livid.
he was sure jason had never hit you, because if there was any indication of that, mat would be all over it.
so while he's sure jason never inflicted physical harm, he saw the way you kept to yourself and even the way you looked surprised at his invitation to lunch or the game.
it broke his heart a little, to think that you'd never once considered yourself now a part of his life. when, in fact, the second you agreed to watch ella, it was like he'd pulled you into the fold.
he was on a mission to prove it to you.
inviting you to his game was the first step in his original plan.
well.
it was the first non intimidating step. (tito mentioned that maybe meeting his mom and sister after only knowing him for like a week was not the smartest move he'd ever made.)
you still looked out of your element when he asked, but he's positive that it was his own enthusiasm that convinced you to say yes.
and he thought it was a great idea! he got you and jason tickets, thinking that maybe you'd be more comfortable with having him around. and perhaps that was true at some point, but when he saw you, standing with only ella and sydney with water lining your eyes, something in his chest twisted.
you looked shaken, like someone had stuck you in a blender.
"where's jason?" was apparently the wrong thing to ask because sydney changed the subject almost immediately.
you wouldn't even look at him.
and when you told him about your piece of shit boyfriend leaving you?
mat wasn't prepared for the burning in his chest. no one got away with treating a friend of his that way, but seeing as you just avoided the topic altogether, he dropped it.
until you went upstairs to your apartment and didn't text him. tito would say he has a habit of hovering at times and maybe he never really agreed until five minutes passed without a word from you.
if you asked, he would've denied the intense concern growing in his chest. but how else was he supposed to react when you seemed so dissociated the rest of the night?
thankfully, you picked up almost immediately.
"hello?"
mat cleared his throat. "hey, you never texted me to say you got in alright. you okay?”
now it could've only been a few seconds, but it felt like a lifetime before he heard your voice.
“keep the car running, i’ll be down in a few minutes.”
mat was ready to grab ella and head upstairs, car be damned.
he couldn't hear what else really happened on the phone, he only knew that you came downstairs, empty handed, and frazzled. the sight alone had him contemplating going into your apartment to figure out exactly what was going on, but he knew the best decision was take you back to his place.
he'd figured it out when jason showed up with his daughter's car seat screaming at you for wearing his clothes. screaming at you like you were somehow in the wrong, like he wasn't the one who cheated on you.
you.
who had to be the most selfless person he knew (don't tell his mom).
you.
who had readily agreed to take care of his daughter on a whim because he was insanely scared.
you.
who was one of the only topic of conversation his mother wanted to discuss. it used to just be hockey and how he was doing. now the thirty minute phone calls turned into hour and a half long facetimes where ella and you are regular topics for discussion.
mat couldn't comprehend how someone could look at you and want to tear you down, but after you officially broke up with jason? he was determined to show you how much you deserved.
exhibit a
"it's five sugars, right?" mat called over his shoulder once he heard your footsteps coming into the kitchen.
you paused in the doorway. "what?"
mat turned around, two mugs of coffee in his hands. "you like five sugars, right?"
ella sat on your hip but didn't seem to give a flying fuck that he was in front of her.
"you--you remembered?" you tilted your head. "you only made me coffee like once?"
mat's face heated up at the implication but smirked anyway. "i have a great memory!"
"could've surprised me from the amount of times you get hit."
mat shrugged, still not completely used to the idea of you watching his games, even if they were just highlights. he held the mug out to you in exchange for ella.
"you wanna come to a game again?" he offered.
you looked at him before breaking eye contact and sipping your coffee. "i don't know if that's the best idea after last time. i don't want to embarrass you again--"
"woah woah woah," mat sat his coffee mug on the island before holding a hand up at you. it didn't sit right with him to see you so ashamed of something someone else did. "what happened at the game was not your fault. it was his, okay? you weren't to blame."
"you weren't even there to see it--"
"and i don't need to, okay? i know you." he meant it. but seeing as the conversation was getting a little too heavy, he changed the subject. "just think about it! and let me know what game you want to go to."
you didn't say anything, but just gave him a small smile and nodded.
he'd count it as a win.
exhibit b
it'd been about four months since you'd started working with mat, three months since you moved in.
not that he was counting.
there were things that were harder with having you around. mainly remembering to wear a shirt when he wakes up in the morning, or to not adjust his junk until he was in the bathroom or his bedroom.
but--
there were many more things that were significantly easier (and better) with you in his life (and apartment).
sleep training ella was easy as hell
keeping an eye on ella who was walking now
the apartment actually smelled nice? not that it smelled bad before, but now it smelled like a home.
and who knew decorative pillows made a difference?
but his favorite thing recently?
grocery shopping.
he was currently pushing ella around in a shopping cart while you scrolled on your phone through the list.
"so what do we need next?" he asked.
"if you'd give me a second, i'd have the answer for you," you snipped.
by now, mat was used to your snide comments, knowing that you were just a bit quippy when you were focused.
"ella, is your nanny being a little cranky?" he joked, ignoring the glare you were shooting his way.
you rolled your eyes and tossed a bag of bread at his head that would've hit its mark had he not had the reflexes that gave him a professional hockey career.
"excuse me?" an older woman spoke up from behind him. "as cute as your little family is, can you move out of the way? you're clogging up the aisle."
mat blinked. time froze. he'd never fully considered the implications of the three of you out in public together. but being the comment of you, him, and ella being a "little family" had his heart stopping in his chest.
"oh of course!" you spoke up and grabbed mat by the arm. the feel of your touch alone had him directing his attention to the physical contact.
he looked at you instead of the woman, watched as you mumbled to ella as you pulled all three of you out of the way. his brain went on overdrive.
god he never wanted you to let go of him ever again. he would give anything to just be able to hold onto you a little longer.
and he must've been thinking for too long because you were snapping your fingers in front of his face?
"mat? you okay? did i lose you there?" you had a cute pinch between your brows and a small frown on your face.
that wouldn't do.
so he smiled and nodded. "sorry, just thinking about something."
you.
exhibit c
you went out for the night with sydney while he hung out with tito and anders. initially, you said you'd look for a sitter to cover you, but mat laughed that suggestion off.
he didn't say it, but you were no longer a nanny to him anymore. and you deserved a night off without the stress of finding a replacement. anders and marty suggested a babysitter that he hired for the night immediately.
"are you sure you don't want me to wait until she gets here? i can help explain ella's routine!" you said.
mat rolled his eyes as he herded you towards the door. "i'll be fine, go have fun!"
you let him gently push you out of the door but turned around and looked at him. "if you need me, text me."
mat smiled. "if you need me, call me."
the babysitter arrived five minutes early which meant mat could spend that time kissing ella's cheeks and reiterating her schedule to the sitter.
he was the last person at the bar, anders and tito were already sitting in a booth, each with a beer in their hands, an extra one on the table for him (he assumed).
"didn't wanna leave ella?" anders asked.
tito scoffed. "more like he didn't wanna leave mama bear." mat rolled his eyes while anders cackled in response.
"shut up, beau."
"ah! but you didn't deny it!"
mat shook his head and took a seat in the leather booth. "what's there to deny? we're roommates and she watches ella all the time. we're friends."
tito made a noise in the back of his throat. "you and i are friends, barzy. you make goo goo eyes at her when you think no one is looking."
"no i don't."
anders piped in. "you nearly ran into me on the ice because you were staring at her wearing your jersey."
"no," he defended. "ella was making a really cute face!"
anders blinked at him before rolling his eyes. "sure, barzy."
mat grumbled under his breath and chugged half his beer.
two hours or so had passed with the three of them talking shit about other teams. anders had hinted at leaving, checking his phone just to make sure grace didn't text him. mat found himself doing the same thing to make sure the babysitter hadn't said anything, or maybe to see if you had.
tito didn't seem to give two shits about his phone. and why would he? he was the only one without kids.
they were in the middle of a conversation about the upcoming devils game when mat's phone started buzzing.
sydney martin.
mat picked up the phone, albeit a bit confused. "hello?"
"mat! hey!" sydney greeted. "are you busy?"
mat glanced at tito and anders whose brows were furrowed. "no, why what's up?" his swore his heart stopped in his chest when she said your name. "is she okay? what's wrong?"
"she's a little drunk and crying and asking for you. i don't know if you're sober enough--"
"i'm sober," he said. "only had one beer." he was already reaching for his keys in his pocket. "what's she crying about?"
sydney sighed through the phone. "we saw jason and her old roommate out at the bar tonight. he made a few comments."
mat's jaw clenched. he forced words out through his teeth. "what did he say?"
"mat--"
"no, if he said some shit, sydney, i need to know."
"no," she corrected. "what you need to do is get over here and take her home."
mat was already standing. "i'm on my way."
sydney hung up.
"everything okay?" anders asked.
"probably something to do with mama bear," tito commented.
mat sighed. "she ran into her piece of shit ex and is now inconsolable. i have to go pick her up."
anders snorted. "right. 'have to.'"
mat ignored the comment and said goodbye, already rushing out of the bar to get to you.
it was another ten minutes before he saw you, standing outside a bar with sydney. he could see your tears from the car.
mat jumped out and hurried towards you. sydney all but pushed you into his arms.
and it felt like the world made sense again. you fit perfectly in his arms, against his chest, head tucked into his neck.
"mat--" you sobbed. "i--i can't--"
he kissed the top of your head. "let's get you home, okay?"
exhibit d
ella was saying actual words now like most babies her age. mat used to look at anders, marty, and other parents a little judgmentally, he'll admit, because while babies learning to do things was incredibly cool, he didn't fully understand the hype.
until she said dada for the first time.
it damn near made him cry.
and like for all of her other milestones, you were there beside him with your phone recording the moment. you almost missed it, but you had a sixth sense for those things, figuring out when ella was going to do something incredible.
that was two weeks ago and it still never got old to hear her say his name when he came home or rounded the corner.
he'd been known as mathew, mat, barzy, barzal, gary, and a slew of other names, but dada had to be his favorite. to belong to someone who needed you so wholly was the best feeling in the world.
that and seeing you smile at him.
he'd accepted it now, there was no denying it, not after half the team was on his case about his feelings for you. and how could he not fall in love with you? you were gentle and kind and handled the shittiest situations with so much grace (he wasn't joking, he'd wanted to fight jason the second you came out of your old apartment looking like you'd seen a ghost).
you handled his friends with ease, never letting tito's teasing affect you. you handled the "mama bear" nickname with ease, even laughing at it at times.
you just made his world so much better just by existing in it.
which is why he gave you the day off while he and tito took ella around the city.
ella was fine for most of the day, though she kept glancing around.
"probably looking for mama bear," tito guessed. "i would be too if you were the one looking after me."
mat flipped him off behind ella's back. "i'm not an idiot."
"before you met mama bear, you kinda were."
he rolled his eyes. "sorry for not knowing how to take care of a baby as soon as i find out i have one. most people have nine months to prepare for the arrival of a child. ella literally showed up on my doorstep."
truth be told, he was parroting the words you'd said to him a week ago when the guilt settled in about how much of a shitty father he was. you were quick to correct him, saying the exact things he told tito, that for a man who found out he had a child only a few months ago, he was doing a great job, and he was even better than some other fathers who left the parenting to their partner.
"i'd never leave you hanging like that," he'd said to you.
but you shrugged off his comment. "it's a little different when it's my job to take care of your kid, mat."
"you've done a great job, barzy," beau said, clapping a hand on his shoulder. "there's no doubt about it. you can tell because she loves you."
ella smiled at mat and pushed his cheeks together.
"what do you say we get back to mama bear, huh?" he asked his daughter who only seemed to smile wider at the mention your nickname.
it was another fifteen minutes before they were home, rowdy and disturbing the peace and quiet you'd created for yourself.
"we're back!" mat called as tito shut the front door behind him.
they were setting things down on the floor by the door when you walked out in sweats.
"mama bear!” tito cheered.
you smiled and mat couldn't breathe. "how was my baby?"
mat was embarrassed to say he almost answered for himself. "she was great," was what he said instead. "isn't that right, ella bean?"
ella was reaching for you, making grabby hands in your general direction babbling something he couldn't quite make out.
"what'd you say, baby?" you asked.
"mama," she said.
and the room went silent.
mat's eyes kept darting from ella to you like he was watching a game of olympic table tennis. ella kept reaching for you until you finally gave in and held her. it was then he saw the tears streaming down your cheeks.
mat immediately went into defense mode.
"i'm sorry, i promise i didn't teach her intentionally, she probably picked it up from us calling you mama bear all the time and--"
you shut him up by placing a small kiss on his cheek and squeezing his forearm before turning on your heel.
"let's take a nap, ella bean."
mat couldn't speak, not even when you left the room. tito clapped him on the shoulder before heading towards the kitchen.
"you're so gone for her."
exhibit e
"are you sure about this?" you called from the other room. mat was in the living room adjusting his tie in the mirror on the wall while the babysitter was playing with ella on the floor.
to be honest, when he was complaining to beau about not having a date to some charity event the islanders were hosting, he wasn't expecting beau to suggest you. though, given how beau kept winking and nudging him after every time you and mat so much as made eye contact, it shouldn't have been surprising.
it wasn't that he didn't think of asking you, it was more like he didn't think you'd actually say yes.
"sure about what?" he called back.
"bringing me."
"i've never been more sure about something in awhile."
"you're so dramatic," you laughed.
mat would give anything to bottle up the sound.
"does this look okay?' mat turned when your voice sounded closer than it was a second ago.
he couldn't breathe.
god you looked beautiful.
"oh," you said softly. "your tie matches my dress."
if he could've he would've looked down to confirm your observation, but he couldn't take his eyes off you. your hair was perfectly styled, your makeup, flawless. the navy of your dress was perfectly matched to his tie and pocket square, something that shouldn't matter as much to him as it did.
but it was you.
so it meant the world.
you looked like you were his.
"yeah," was all he could say.
"you never answered my question," you said. "do i look okay? because if it's too much--"
"perfect," he said. "you look perfect."
you smiled. "sydney picked it out." thank you sydney. "you look handsome too mat, though, your tie..." you gestured to his neck so he turned around to see it crooked still. "do you need help?"
"yes please," he sighed. "i've looked up videos, but tito usually helps me do it."
"aw," you cooed. "you looked it up? that's so cute!" your deft fingers began undoing the knot and redoing it way better than he could've.
"how are you so good at this?"
you shrugged. "when i was fourteen, i read a book where a girl tied her husband's tie and i wanted to be able to do the same for the love of my life one day. so i asked my dad to teach me. i'm a bit of a hopeless romantic."
the love of your life.
god he'd give anything to be loved by you.
and it would be so easy just to lean forward a couple of inches and kiss you.
right there.
give in to what he'd been feeling for months.
but the babysitter rounded the corner with ella who was chanting mama and dada which somehow ruined the mood and made him want to kiss you even more.
"be good, sweet girl. we'll see you tomorrow." you made your way to the front door while he kissed his daughter on the head.
"i'm not sure how long we'll be out, but i'll keep you updated," he told the babysitter.
the babysitter nodded, which to be honest, he barely noticed because his attention was back on you and how your dress, while it had sleeves, had a dip in the back. he didn't know that skin could be so alluring, but maybe it was the fact that it was you.
mat cleared his throat and bid the babysitter and ella goodbye before ushering the both of you out of the door.
the drive lasted longer than he wanted it to, mainly because he couldn't wait to get to the event just to show you off.
was this how he was supposed to feel with all of his other exes? the desire to show the world you were his?
"you okay? you're quiet, it's unlike you," you said.
mat shrugged, mainly so he didn't immediately profess his feelings. "just a lot on my mind."
"uh oh. that can't be good," you joked. you leaned over the console and placed your chin in your hand. "you wanna talk about it?"
mat's hands on the wheel tensed, mainly to keep himself from leaning over and kissing you immediately.
"i'm good, maybe we can discuss it later."
you shrugged. "if you say so."
the both of you arrived at the event shortly thereafter with mat passing his keys off to the valet. "stay seated," he told you before getting out and rounding the car to open your door.
"you didn't have to--"
"i know," he smiled. "i wanted to." mat offered you his arm and you took it, wrapping your hand around his bicep like it belonged there.
the two of you spotted marty and sydney first; the latter all but shrieked when she saw you.
"you look amazing!" she said before tugging you out of mat's arm and into her own. "i told you this dress was the one."
"you didn't say i would've matched mat," you mumbled, though he still heard it over the buzz in the room. he was always listening to you.
marty nudged him. "you seem pleased with yourself."
mat smiled. "i am."
you were laughing at something sydney said when tito came up and clapped him and marty on the shoulders. "let's get you a drink, barzy. you look thirsty." he leaned in. "in more than one way."
mat shoved him off and leaned towards you, gently touching your arm. "i'm going with beau and marty to get a drink, but i'll be back."
you smiled and nodded. "okay, don't worry about me, mat. i'll be fine in your absence."
he let himself be whisked away from you and towards the bar where a drink was placed in his hand pretty quickly.
"so," tito started. "you two match."
"it was syd's doing," marty explained. "she orchestrated the whole thing. picked out the dress based on the tie mat wears every year. it was her new project."
mat flushed but did his best to brush it off.
"i don't know how you did it barzy," tito continued. "she looks good. if i were you i would've--"
"watch it, beauvillier."
"i was gonna say--"
"i don't care what you were gonna say, i probably wouldn't have liked it."
"well then, maybe you should take a chance and ask her out finally. the pining was cute at first, now it's bordering on pathetic."
mat rolled his eyes while marty laughed into his drink.
"look, you have a good thing going, you brought her here as your date, ella calls her mama, you two are as good as locked in and committed. you just have to do the hard work of officially asking her out!"
his gaze travelled to the other side of the room where you were laughing along with sydney and grace. you looked like you belonged in his world.
effortlessly.
mat made a move to go over to you, but marty caught his arm. "this is not the place to ask her out," he said. "as much as you want to, you don't want her thinking it took a pretty dress to get you to take her out."
"that's not the case here--"
"does she know that?"
mat rolled his eyes and took a sip of his drink.
it was another thirty minutes before he made his way back to you. he found you standing alone on the balcony with a glass of champagne in your hand.
"you okay?" he asked. "no one's bothering you or anything, right?"
you looked over your shoulder and snorted. "i'm not important enough to be bothered by the donors, mat."
"don't say that. you're important."
you rolled your eyes. "not what i meant, mathew."
god he loved it when you said his name.
"i just meant that the donors don't really pay attention to me, so i've just been hanging out with the wives all night since my date ditched me," you teased.
"okay to be fair, tito pulled me away, i would've stayed with you all night if i could've."
you blinked. "really?" you asked in a small voice.
he nodded until he found the words to speak. "i love spending time with you. you're one of my favorite people."
within a split second you were closing the distance between the two of you and wrapping your arms around his waist. your arms snuck under his coat so that the only thing separating your skin from his was the thin material of his dress shirt.
it only took him a split second to react to the hug and wrap you in his arms.
you mumbled against his chest. "you're one of my favorite people, too."
in conclusion:
in the end, there was nothing special about that day. it was a saturday in the middle of july back in coquitlam. by the grace of god, he'd convinced you to come to canada for him, not that you could really refuse as he was the one signing your paychecks, you'd joked (though he made it clear he'd continue paying you even if you didn't go).
and maybe he regretted it a little bit, seeing you bond with his family was another nail in his coffin of falling deeper in love with you. there was no way out now, not that he'd ever want one.
it was one particularly hot day in the summer that mat dragged you and the rest of his family to the beach. and maybe that was a mistake (seeing you in a red bikini in public should be illegal).
you sat in the sand with ella building castles, or at least attempting to, while he tried to drown liana in the water. it wasn't until liana finally dunked him, that he trudged back to shore, bent out of shape and irritated.
"you can dish it out but can't take it?" you teased as he plopped onto the sand next to you.
mat glared instead of saying anything mainly because ella was starting to pick up more and more words and she'd say "fuck" too many times thanks to his mouth.
speaking of, when she saw her dad, ella immediately called him before throwing herself into his lap, completely forgetting about you. it was funny to see mainly because it was a new trend of ella's, ditching you for him. it was even funnier because how put out you'd be about it.
just like now with your lip poked out and your eyes rolling.
"oh don't be a sore loser," mat said. "she used to love you more than me."
"well that makes sense, i'm way more likable than you are."
"i can't argue that."
liana came running into their direct line of sight with a polaroid camera in her hand. "i wanna get a picture of the happy family," she said as her explanation. "say cheese!"
mat froze but you didn't bat an eyelash at the idea of being called family. sure, he'd considered you a part of his ever since you agreed to watch his child, but he didn't know you felt the same.
"smile, mathew," you nudged him in the ribs.
he turned his head towards you, ignoring his sister's groans and chirps. he ignored the sound of a camera clicking and the subsequent flash that followed.
his focus was on you.
"mat, what're you looking at?" you asked. he could vaguely register liana walking away as your eyes searched his face for any hint of what could be going on, but all he could think about was you.
you wearing his jersey and holding ella at the stanley cup finals.
you in a few years with a ring on your left hand that he put there.
you with a newborn baby that was the perfect mix of the both of you.
you, old and crinkly, holding his hand on the couch as you told your grandkids stories.
you.
you.
you.
before he could even stop himself, he leaned forward and captured your lips with his.
you responded not a beat later.
and maybe it was embarrassing, how eager he was or how his hand felt like the perfect fit against your cheek. but he couldn't give a shit.
not when he'd waited so long for something like this. for someone like this.
and when you both pulled away, much too soon in his opinion, your eyes were wide.
"why'd you do that?" you whispered.
he shrugged and adjusted ella in his arms. "because my life is better with you in it. because i love you." he cleared his throat. "why'd you kiss me back?"
you smiled and leaned into kiss him again. this time though, instead of pulling fully away, you stayed close so that your lips brushed his. "because i love you too."

𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒 ─ so, it’s officially the night of december 24, also known as the most important day for filipinos, also known as…..the noche buena incident. time to bring your man home and see if he can survive in a houseful of nosey, all too-happy go-lucky filipinos.
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 ─ 18+ ONLY; MINORS DNI. typical filipino family gathering things. drunk titos. lots of karaoke. slight angst.

𝐒𝐀𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐔 𝐆𝐎𝐉𝐎
Gets excited for Noche Buena every year because it means he gets to be a menace.
Christmas celebrations with the Gojo Clan are so stiff and formal. He finds them incredibly stuffy and cold, void of the warmth the holidays are associated with.
Therefore, he clings to you and your family. It makes you feel horrible for him.
……but like I said, he uses this as an excuse to be an absolute menace too so your sympathy only exists up until a certain extent.
If you had it your way, you’d keep him out of the house throughout the entirety of prep day because with him around, things don’t get done as fast.
He doesn’t just distract you, but he distracts your family and they love him so much that they’ll drop everything just to goof around with him.
That being said, Satoru absolutely survives Noche Buena. If anything, he thrives in it.
For sure brings the majority of the desserts being served.
He’s nailed down your family’s Buko Pandan recipe, even knowing which Gulaman to buy. He’s single handedly put someone’s mom out of a job by becoming the sole bringer of Buko Pandan to family gatherings
Along with that, he brings a shit ton of other desserts like leche flan, puto, chocolate cake, and Kikufuku.
Literally can blend in with EVERYONE.
He gossips with the titas then checks the SHIT out of them before he leaves to go have a beer with the titos, then makes his way to all the cousins your age, and eventually, you kinda lose him until you hear his maniac laugh from upstairs and the little cousins squealing and running.
Lowkey spends most of the night fucking around with the kids.
You find him in someone’s room in a massive pillow fort and all the little cousins are huddled in there.
Highkey the life of the party.
Definitely joins the drunk titos for karaoke and eggs on their drunk antics.
By the end of the night, he’s just sleepily resting his head on your chest looking up at you with those big stupid eyes of his.
All he can do is hold onto you tightly and thank you for giving him everything…especially a real family and a chance to just be a person.
𝐒𝐔𝐆𝐔𝐑𝐔 𝐆𝐄𝐓𝐎
Of course he survives noche buena.
Not a single person can find a flaw in him. He’s so dignified and refined that not even the fact that he took in twin girls at the age of 18 is questionable to anyone
If anything, it just makes your family, especially the elders, be like “Diyos ko. Ang selfless naman!” and boom their love for him is officially cemented into the fucking earth. Filipinos love a good charity story.
Nanako and Mimiko are doted on literally the entire time. They’re so pretty and well-behaved, which makes everyone love Suguru even more because his kids are proof that he’s a good dad.
That being said, everyone will be asking you when you both are gonna have a baby the entire night.
Suguru shuts down all that talk in a nanosecond. As much as he loves your family, it’s not their business. You are his priority and he won’t stand idly and watch your bodily autonomy be pondered with as if it’s up for discussion.
The titas never ask that question ever again.
For sure brings some sort of meat that he spent an entire night marinating and the next day cooking like Yakiniku, lobster and steak, or prime rib. He wants to give your family the impression that he takes feeding them seriously and with high regard.
Everyone wants a piece of his dish because his holy hands touched it. Even if he were a bad cook, no one would say anything. They would simply eat everything and praise him for contributing.
He sticks by your side throughout the night, joining in on the conversation or simply observing you as you discuss with stupid lovesick eyes.
He’ll leave once in a while to check on Nanako and Mimiko or have some quick chit chat with the elders and the titos, but he always finds himself back at your side.
Tries his best to not laugh whenever someone off-tune in your family is busting their ass during karaoke, but eventually, he has his head on your lap with his face red from cackling so hard.
Long story short, your family looks forward to seeing Sugurg more than you. He’s the golden child.
𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐈
Your family finds him intimidating and standoffish in a way that borders rude, but they’re too awed by his handsomeness to even give a shit.
But he’s only a little stiff because he’s incredibly nervous. He knows how much your family means to you and wants nothing but to get along with them for your sake.
Once he warms up, everyone gets to see the charming, sweet, and gentlemanly Kento you know and love.
He is the PERFECT man for you according to your family…and for your other titas and cousins should things between you two not work out.
He brings a very big and elaborate charcuterie board paired with a few bottles of wine.
The main attraction? His homemade ube and cheese pandesal and slices of French baguette.
Everyone gets a nosebleed watching him roll his sleeves up and slice the bread. Even your titos.
The titos love him because he can out drink him and they think he’s the epitome of a man.
If Nanamin has decided to go Papamin and bring Yuuji, he only earns more respect from your family.
Everyone loves Yuuji because he’s a ray of sunshine who eats everything the titas and lolas put on his plate with enthusiasm.
All you hear throughout the night is, “Ay, Yuuji! Try this one, anak. Ma sarap.” “You’re such a good boy, Yuuji.”
Similar to Suguru with Nanako and Mimiko, seeing how well-rounded Yuuji is and knowing it’s because of Kento’s influence will only earn him more respect.
Also similar to Suguru, he sticks to your side the entire night. He’s there for you after all.
Makes your plate for you with all of your favorite foods and the perfect amounts of everything. Even your dessert plate.
He compliments everyone’s food politely and the next thing you know their eyes are morphing into the shape of hearts.
If you don’t marry him, they will.
Good thing he’s already planned that step.
𝐓𝐎𝐉𝐈 𝐅𝐔𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐔𝐑𝐎
….Can’t even lie to you, everyone thinks he’s a felon at first.
How the hell did he get that scar? He’s a single dad? Anak, that’s not good! He comes with baggage!
Toji is immediately suspicious to everyone.
But they quickly learn not to judge a book by its cover.
Their lesson? Megumi.
Your family witnesses firsthand how mature and intelligent Megumi is and they’re like…no..he couldn’t possibly–
YEA. THAT BOY WAS RAISED BY THAT SCARY MAN.
They start opening their minds up to Toji and suddenly all the signs appear.
The way he looks at you? The way his touch is always soft? The way he hovers over you protectively like he’s about to catch a bullet for you at at moment? The way he tells your family that he named Megumi his name because Megumi is his blessing?
Toji is just a family man who has had a rough life. He loves you.
And that’s all your family can ask for; a family man who loves you.
At some point your mom can’t handle the whispers anymore and while you three are off making your rounds to everyone, your mom gives them some context–his wife died, and he raised Megumi by himself.
Boom. Sympathy points secured.
Although no one will admit that they’ve misjudged him or directly apologize for doing so because of pride, they all go home with heavy hearts that night.
Toji though? He doesn’t give a shit. He knows what it’s like to cut off “family”. He’s already detached himself from all of those who judged. It’s you he proves himself to, not them.
He takes it in stride, not ruffling any feathers. He knows all it takes is one look from him for everyone to shit their pants anyway.
In true dilf fashion, he brings Filipino-style barbeque chicken and a beer.
Suddenly the titos are besties with him and he’s one of the guys.
He eventually congregates with them when a boxing match comes on. Megumi sticks by your side like the best boy and gets cooed at while he eats.
Toji periodically comes back to embarrass Megumi.
This man literally picks him up and holds him in the air while cooing to him like he isn’t a whole teenager.
That wins over everyone officially.
He’s just a dad a man trying to be a good husband now that he has a second chance.

!!!!Miles can Salsa!!!!
Miles X reader. Miles 42
For some reason, I just believe that Miles is a really good dancer. I strongly believe his mum would drag him to the dance floor to teach him how.
Tumblr media
There you stood, in front of the door that lead out to the roof for Miles' apartment complex. My hands rung the yellow sun dress I wore before nervously fixing my hair. Beyond the door I heard the chatter of people, the sound of music and the sweet, sweet smell of Rio's cooking. I would never tell my dad, but damn, Rio's cooking was the best in the world. I don't know how I could think about food at that moment. My stomach was doing flips. Why was I so nervous you ask? Well, I had been to these cookouts for eighteen years. You would think I would have the hang of it by now. Well, this time it was different. You see, for eighteen years I had been coming to these gatherings as Miles' friend. Now I was going as Miles' girlfriend. Girlfriend. The word still brought a stupid, giddy smile to my face. Remembering back to how he had asked me, I couldn't help but chuckle. Shaking my head, I took a deep breath. It wouldn't be any different. I had grown up with these people. Plus, Miles and I had only made it official a few days ago, there's no way they would know, right? Cheeking my bag to make sure I still had Miles present, I pushed open the door. As I stepped out, everything seemed to stop as everyone turned to me.
“Uh, hi guys,” my voice cracked as I did a little wave. They totally know.
“Ehhhhhhh, there she is!” Uncle Tito exclaimed and before I knew it, I was rushed by smiling faces, everyone hugging me and congratulating me.
“Welcome to the family, Nina!” Miles' cousin exclaimed picking me up and spinning me around. I stumbled slightly when I was put back down, smiling as an auntie brought me in, kissing my cheeks.
“I'm so glad. You just won me quite a bit oh money,” she chuckled cheekily before shuffling off. I frowned, only to spot Miles trying to make his way through the crowd.
“Hey, hey let her breath you animals,” he ordered, stepping up to my side, placing a hand on my lower back and shooing his family and friends away. Reluctantly, they did so.
“Well, you certainly made an entrance.” Underneath his calm and cool exterior, I caught a brief glimpse of the nervous boy he once was. He was embarrassed by how his family acted, even more embarrassed by the fact that the reason they acted that was was because he had blabbed to everyone he knew that we were finally together. I smirked, rising to my tiptoes to place a kiss on his lips, an act that still made us blush.
“What was that for?” he asked, slightly dazed.
“Happy birthday Miles,” I said. Hearing a loud wolf whistle, I blushed, dropping my head to Miles' chest as he sighed, fighting off the embarrassment as he half glared at his family members that called out some saucy comments.
“Where is she? Is she here?” Rio pushed through the crowd, her eyes setting on me.
“There she is, my daughter-in-law,” Rio opened her arms out as she rushed towards us.
“Mum,” Miles groaned.
“Oh stop it,” Rio waved dismissively at him, taking my hands.
“Thankyou, I know your way out of his league and I know he sometimes smells,” I laughed at Rios words.
“Mum. Are you serious right now?” Miles asked, running a hand down his braids.
“Callado, come, I want you to tell me everything,” Rio waved dismissively at her son before she hooked her arm on mine and dragged me away.
Translation=(Be Quiet)
Later that night, when Rio had finally let me go, I stood by the barbeque beer in hand with Miles. He sat on a large esky with me planted between his legs, one arm around my thigh, his large palm pressed against the soft skin, just under the hem of my dress. Little did I know, but he was thoroughly enjoying himself. The fact that I was now his girlfriend and that he was able to hold me like this made him tingle. Noticing Miles' gaze on the makeshift dance floor, I reached up, rubbing his shoulder, gaining his attention.
“Wanna dance?” I asked. I didn't feel offended by the chuckle of laugher he let out. They knew me for being a terrible dancer. Last time I took to the floor, I almost knocked my dancer partner off the roof.
“Nah, not tonight, had too much to drink,” he said, holding up only this third beer. I expected that answer. He hadn't danced in a long time.
“Well, if you won't. Mi Señora,” Uncle Tito offered me, his hand seeming to appear out of nowhere.
“Your funeral man,” Miles shrugged. I propped an eyebrow at his condescending tone.
“Wow, ill show you,” I huffed, gently slapping my bottle to his chest, to which he grabbed it.
“Oh, come on, I'm sorry I,” he huffed, but I had already taken Uncle Tito's hand and let him lead me to the dance floor. Everyone expected a shit show, and some even moved to block the ledge.
Only they were all pleasantly surprise as I spun on the balls of my feet taking the perfect salsa position. Then the music started and boy did I dance.
Miles' jaw literally dropped as he watched me. I was actually dancing. I was performing a perfect salsa. I was moving and stepping to the beat, spinning on the balls of my feet, all guided by Uncle Tito. Everyone was shocked, to say the least. Not to toot my own horn, but I was doing a damn good job. I could feel Miles' eyes on me, on my hips as they rolled and shock to the beat. He had to admit it was hot.
“She's been taking lessons, wanted to surprise you,” Rio whispered next to her son's ear.
“You knew about this?” Miles asked, gesturing to me.
“Who do you think taught her that hip roll?” Rio asked, gesturing to the wide hip roll I threw out.
“She's good, right?” Rio asked, nudging him.
“Eah, I guess she is,” he muttered.
“Well, if I were you I would step in before your uncle steals your girlfriend,” Rio's suggestion had Miles chuckling. Although, as his uncle threw you into a dip, his hand catching your knee did tickle his jealousy. And the way you smiled and laughed brightly at it. Taking a sip of beer, he shock his head before setting it down and walking up to the dance floor.
“Disculpe, cree que puedo bailar con mi chica?” Miles asked, placing a hand on his uncle's shoulder.
(Excuse me, you think I can dance with my girl?)
“If the ladie wants to dance with you,” Uncle Tito shrugged, leaving the decision up to me.
“You sure Miles? Wouldn't want to send you to an early grave,” I quipped with a challenging smile. He huffed, running his hand down his mouth. As Uncle Tito spun me he slid in between us one arm, taking my waist the other my hand as he continued spinning us out of Tito's reach. We came to a sudden stop, with Miles pulling me into him. The music slowed as his hand snaked around my waist, coming to rest on my lower back. Trailing his other hand up my side and down my arm, he took my hand in his. A minor slip of air left my lips as he pulled me flush against him, and when I say flush, I meant every area. He smirked at my slightly shocked reaction, not wasting my surprise as he started to dance. Now salsa had a rich history. Just like the sauce, it was a mix of everything, Fron tango to rumba to swing dance. It was also a sensual dance. He held me tightly as he rolled his hips to the music, my hips attached to him moving as well. We danced together, doing some basic spins and steps. When I recovered from my shock I huffed in amusement. He had total control. Well, after his comment from before I couldn't let that happen. As he spun me out, I let go of his hand, stepping back. Salsa was a give and take dance. Which meant you went along with anything. Which meant as I walked back he followed. As his arms went to encompass me I ducked under his arm, dragging my hand across his chest and shoulder as I stepped around him. Facing away from him, I popped my leg right between his legs, my foot stopping inches from his groin. Placing it back down, I threw my hip out, bumping into him and sending him stumbling slightly. Everyone watching let out howls of ohhhhh’s. Miles spun back to me, a stunned but impressed look on his face. I smirked, giving him a small shrug as I started to dance again. Now in salsa you could take turns to do a little freestyle. Either to give the other person a chance to rest or to show off a little under the spotlight. And I did, spinning and stepping, finishing with a pop of my chest. I didn't know what had gotten into me. Where all the confidence had come from. Mabey it came from everyone cheering me on. He extended his hand to me and as I place it in his, he used my own trick against me, spinning me around so that my back was pressed to his chest. His hands planted firmly on my hips as he swayed us. Leaning my head back, I reached up rubbing my hand down his cheek.
“Not bad, hey?” I asked.
“I've seen better,” he shrugged.
“Oh, really?” I asked.
“Oh, Mi Amor you haven't seen nothing,” he grinned. I was about to ask him when he spun me around so quickly that when I stopped I barely registered that he was now kneeling, he had used the momentum on my spin to lift my leg and prop it over his shoulder. Slightly off balance my hand reached out clasping the back of his neck for balance. He smirked, his lips pressing to the inner side of my thigh as everyone went crazy. My face flushed a hundreds shades of red as his other hand rose up the back of my other thigh and slightly under my dress.
“Thats my boy!” Uncle Aaron yelled proudly. Bouncing my leg off his shoulder, he stood rolling his body into mine, catching my knee and wrapping it around his waist. His hot breath fanned my face, only inches apart. Stepping back into a lung he lowered us, my other leg outstretched. I almost became a stuttering mess as his hand trailed from my knee up my thigh, grasping it firmly.
“Better?” he asked teasingly. Jotting out a nod, he chuckled, returning us to the standing position. Yet he didn't let me go keeping me close. It was a whirlwind as we spun around each other, Miles now taking the full lead. The dance got faster and faster. Ending in a big bag of sound, to which Miles took me by the waist and knee and dipped me. He couldn't stop his eyes from railing down my cleavage, to the small beads of sweat lining my chest. Slowly raising me back up, he pulled me close.
“That was, well wow,” I struggled to find the words not having to worry much about it when he pressed his lips to mine in a deep hungry kiss. His tongue quickly parted my lips. Another round of wolf whistles sounded, only this time I smiled into the kiss. Miles smiled as well rising his fist in victory earning another round of cheers.
Later that night, Miles and I were dancing again, only this time it was a slow swaying type song. My head rested on his chest. We both glanced to the side where a very drunk Uncle Tito was singing loudly along with the song.
“Well, I've never heard this song before,” I mused. We winced as he sung a particularly high note.
“What you've never head of the most romantic song of all time?” he asked.
“Romantic?” I asked, pulling my eyes away from Tito.
“Oh yeah,” he nodded. Then softly, he started to sing along. I was surprised, he never sung. But hey, I loved it. I wasen't great at Spanish. But as Miles sung sweetly to me I didn't need to know the words. I smiled a rare content smile as we rested our foreheads together.

Fairway to Heaven - Part 1
Tumblr media
Hi!! I’m so excited to post my first-ever Harry fic! I’ve been on 1D Tumblr since the very beginning, logged off for 5 years and now I’m back 💀 So I’ve had a lot of ideas over the years that have just lived in my head. GOLFRRY + MUSTACHRRY are my weaknesses, so this is my twist on a golf/bev cart girl + agegap fic 🤩
I’d love to hear your thoughts. I have most of the story written, so I should be able to have a consistent posting schedule. Not sure the total # of parts quite yet. I’m also happy to write additional blurbs if y’all like Harry and Briar as much as I do 🥹🐥🦊
Here is a mood board I put together. Feel free to picture Briar however you please. The mood board is just to set the vibez!
Without further ado...Enjoy!

By the time she gets to her designated cart, she’s already fifteen minutes late; but her iced coffee is the perfect color, and her hair didn’t give her too much trouble this morning. She smiles to herself, a win is a win.
Briar Barlowe quickly dumps a bucket of ice in her cart’s side cooler as the bar back begins filling the bin with the usual suspects: Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Fireball, Tito’s, Casamigos, Ginger ale, and, of course, grape juice. She makes sure to keep her lavender cups stocked and plenty of fun straws to make everything more fun. She even decorates her tip jars to say funny jokes.
Since starting at Wynnewood Country Club, Briar has gained a bit of notoriety among the players as the girl with a bright smile and a heavy pour. This job is exactly what she needs to fill the gap between graduating college and beginning her business degree in the fall. Good money, stress-free responsibilities, and time spent in the sunshine.
Her Uncle, Patrick Barlowe, is the golf pro at Wynnewood; a local legend who was just shy of making the PGA Tour himself. He spends his days teaching lessons, running the pro shop and serving on the Board of Directors for the club. If you’re in with Patrick, you’re in with everyone.
When he heard her worries of not finding a summer job after graduation, it was a no brainer to offer her a position as a beverage cart girl. They both gaze out over the course from a table under the gazebo on the top deck of club’s restaurant.
“That job sounds a little sexist, Uncle Patrick,” Briar sneers. All she can picture is driving around in a little dress and a visor like Malibu Barbie, answering the male members’ every beck and call.
The club is gorgeous; first built in 1914, and the architecture reflects it. It has two golf courses, 4 tennis courts, a pool, and deluxe spa. The member fees skyrocket each year, upping the amenities and overall snootiness of the members.
“The money is good and the members are pretty harmless. From the way you’ve swindled me into throwing teddy bear tea parties, I think you’ll do just fine on the sales aspect.”
“Fine. When do I start?”
Patrick leans back in his seat, “I’ll call Dominic in the morning.”
With that, they finish their drinks and appetizers just as the sun sets.
Walking out to her car, she sees a black Range Rover pull under the carport. The boys at the valet stand are already bickering over who gets to drive this one.
Based on the surrounding town, the level of pretentiousness at the club never surprises Briar. The yearly member fee for the club can cover 2 years’ worth of her business school tuition alone. She shakes her head and jumps into her hand-me down Jeep to head back to her apartment, paying no mind to the man entering the front door of the club.
~
Her shift this morning started out in the frigid cold, forcing her to change outfits later in the day as the sun came out. She’s sporting her black athletic skort and a racerback tank top. She opts to leave her hair down and sport her black and white Nike trailblazers to keep the look casual.
With a few weeks’ worth of shifts under her belt, she’s learned the ways of the club and fallen into a good rhythm. On any given weekend day, she has to head to the clubhouse to restock twice before 12PM. Today is not one of those days.
As temperature warms up, the course begins to fill up. In the last hour of her shift, she’s left with only a few beers and a few shots worth of Tito’s. Her tip jar is a little emptier than usual, but the pun on her sign got a few chuckles. She sets up shop on the 17th hole and snaps a few photos of the sunset.
“I shot one under today. One under a tree, one under a bush, and one under the water.”
Briar jumps at the voice behind her. Is that an Irish accent? She leans to peer over the side of her cart. She sees a man, older than her, donning a light blue polo with dark blue pants and a white hat, reading the joke on her jar.
“Clever, isn’t it?” She smiles kindly at him.
“Hilarious. It’s like ya been watching my game today,” he laughs. He moves closer to where she’s standing.
“Can I get you anything? I’ll be honest, I’m mostly wiped out.”
He peers down at the contents of the cooler. “I’ll take that last Mich Ultra. Do you have any Casamigos left? My mate is a little picky.”
“No Casamigos,” she says with a slight frown. “I’ll try to keep my drinking to a minimum next time and save you some.”
He lets out a loud laugh and squeezes his eyes shut. “Alright, just this then. He’ll have to deal with it.”
“I can offer you some Peanut M&M’s for your troubles,” she says, pulling out her iPad to ring in the order. “Do you have an account with the club, or do you want to pay cash?”
“The account is under Niall Horan,” he says, putting a $20 bill in the jar. “Thanks for the M&M’s, darlin’.”
“I’m Briar. It was nice meeting you, Niall. Thank you!” She beams. He smiles and starts heading back to the path toward the clubhouse.
~
After cleaning her cart and counting her money, Briar finishes the day drinking a mojito at the bar, while Cam, her new friend at the club, is working her bar shift.
“How was it out there today, babe?” Cam asks.
“Slow at first, but it definitely picked up. I couldn’t even head back for a restock. Luckily, the members I got at the very end weren’t picky.”
“Oh! Did you see Niall?” she asks as she puts glassware in the dishwasher.
“Yeah,” Briar furrows her brows. “How did you know?”
“I used to serve him on the front course all the time. Now that I’m too old and wretched to work out on the course, he’ll visit me in here sometimes. He mentioned playing the back course with a friend today.”
Briar is always assigned to the back course. There are only minor differences in difficulty, but she finds the back course to be a little more calm and serious. They’re also a little more generous with their tips. She’s not sure if her assignment has something to do with her uncle’s knowledge of the club’s inner workings.
“He is really nice, and generous. I didn’t get to meet the friend, though. Did you?”
“Yes, he was a little more reserved. But Niall is a riot, so he makes anyone look calm. I didn’t catch his name.”
Briar hums and stirs her mojito around as she stifles a yawn. “Well, I’ve been here since 7:30 this morning, so I am ready to goooo,” she drags out her last word. She waves bye to Cam and begins the trek to the employee parking lot.
As she’s walking, she gazes up to the upper deck of the restaurant where she can just barely make out Niall standing by the railing. He’s talking animatedly and waving his beer bottle around.
A bit off to the right, peering down at her, is a tall, striking man with dark features wearing a white button down and a sport coat. The top two buttons are undone just enough to see his collarbones.
The club has a strict dress code for the restaurant. Briar often does a double take when she sees members out of their golf clothes. She wonders if he’s even allowed to show that much skin.
Shrugging it off, she continues toward her car, but not without looking back at the man. He’s still looking at her, curiously, taking a sip of his drink and turning away not long after she looks up.
She can’t help but get this strange feeling, almost as if the hairs on the back of her neck are standing straight up.
~
As the summer starts to heat up, so do her shifts at the course. By the end of them, Briar’s hair is sticking out sideways and her make up is smeared down her face. She bought a miniature fan that clips right to the visor of her cart to keep her cool throughout the day.
It’s just past 8:30 in the morning on Tuesday when she hears a familiar voice on the 8th hole. She squints and sees Niall, along with the dark haired man from the other night. There are a few guys she doesn’t recognize standing with them.
She maneuvers her cart through the winding path, closer to where the men are.
“There’s the beer angel!” Niall shouts. She smiles and shakes her head. He comes jogging over. “I hope you’re fully stocked this morning.”
“Yep, I am! I even have a few breakfast sandwiches, if you’re interested.”
His eyes light up as she pulls out a bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel from the warming drawer. Chef Lambo, the executive chef of the club, made them especially for Briar’s customers.
“Yesss. I’ll take one of those, a Mich Ultra, two Transfusions, and — H! What do you want?” He yells, partially turning to face his friend in the distance.
She faintly hears, “Casamigos!”
“And a Casamigos on the rocks, with a lime,” he finishes. It takes her only a few minutes to make the cocktails.
“Do you want these on your account?” Briar asks Niall.
He takes a huge bite of the bagel and mumbles, “No, you can put it all on my mate’s. Last name is Styles.”
Styles, or, “H” as Niall called him. The mystery man’s Last name is Styles. And, he’s a member here.
“Got it. Well, good luck today.”
“Thanks, we’ll need it. We’re trying to close a work deal with the two guys we’re playing with. Hey, don’t be afraid to swing by us multiple times. We can use all the schmoozing we can get,” he smiles.
“I think I can do that. Let me know if you need help, I’m told I’m very persuasive,” she smiles as she takes the emergency brake off of her cart. He throws another $20 in her jar and then waves, nearly dropping all of the items in his hands.
Niall returns to his group, handing out their drinks. Briar continues to watch before pulling away. H steps out from behind Niall, slightly lifting his cup — his lavender cup — towards her, as a thank you. His facial expression is stoic, watching her carefully.
She smiles to herself and drives off. The rest of the shift goes by in a blur. She swings by Niall and H’s group a few times. Each time, Niall greets her to grab more drinks and snacks.
Is that on purpose? If the drinks are on H’s account, why isn’t he coming over? She’d like to get a closer look at him. She chews on the inside of her lip and continues on with her closing duties. She loves the morning shift; in early, out early.
~
After parking her cart in the garage, she can see her uncle in the pro shop, glasses on the tip of his nose, peering down at something. She lightly knocks on the door and pushes it open.
“Hey, Briar bear,” he says, looking up at her. “How was your day?”
Briar sighs at her childhood nickname, plopping down on the couch by the practice putting green. Members can test out clubs before purchasing them in the pro shop, making it an optimal spot to hang out and mess around with all of the clubs.
“It was good, I just have to get used to waking up this early again. And I already know you’re going to say, ‘welcome to the real world, kid’, so just stop there,” she says sassily.
Patrick chuckles and focuses back on with his paperwork. They’re quiet for a few moments.
“What’re working on, anyway?” she asks, craning her neck to see what he’s doing.
“Just some budget sheets, and making a list of members who haven’t had a lesson from their amazing in-house golf pro,” he says, punching numbers into his phone calculator.
“They get a free lesson from you?”
“Yes, when they join. But now, to keep up member retention, we’re going to offer sessions to members who have been here for 5 years or more,” he scratches his temple. “Most of ‘em don’t need it, but I feel they always leave with a new drill to practice and some sage advice from yours truly.”
“That’s cool,” she replies absently.
“Wanna help?” Patrick asks her. She nods silently and takes a seat beside him. She sees a list of last names, first initial and  an “X” next to their name if they’ve taken a lesson.
She notices an X next to “Horan, N.” but not “Styles, H”. Interesting.
Briar continues to audit the two lists, until she hears her uncle clear his throat.
“Hey, are you going to hang here for a bit? I need to run back into the main clubhouse for a few minutes.”
Patrick runs the pro shop solo during the day, until a high school or college kid can come in in the afternoon.
“Yeah, I’ll hang here. What do I do if someone needs something?”
“Then you can entertain them with your dazzling personality until I get back,” he teases, sticking his tongue out. “Alright, I’ll be back.”
“‘kay,” she says, walking back to her original spot on the sofa, laying her head back on the edge.
Her eyes are shut, only for a minute, until a brilliant idea pops in her head. She rises off the sofa and saunters over to the computer her uncle was just working on.
The employee portal is logged in under Patrick’s account. Briar doesn’t know much about it, aside from using it to clock in and clock out. It’s still on the member screen, an area she’s 100% sure she doesn’t have access to.
She peruses the site until she finds a “Member Look-Up” tab. Briar’s intrusive thoughts win.
She slowly punches in S-T-Y-L-E-S and waits for the results to populate. 2 results found.
She clicks on the first profile. An account pulls up for a Paul Styles, and a photo of a white-haired man pops up.
Well, that’s certainly not him, Briar thinks to herself. She exits out and clicks on the next account. No profile photo opens, but the name is at the top. She bites her thumbnail in anticipation of what she’ll see.
Harry Styles. H. Niall’s mysterious friend. The tequila lover.
She starts to scroll down the page. The profile is more bare than the other man’s, but she can see the basic things about him. He’s 41, joined the club 8 years ago. He lives in another pretentious town only a few miles away.
Then, she sees a “Member Activity” tab. Out of curiosity, she clicks on it. Her eyes widen, seeing every transaction he’s ever made on his account. His “dues” each year. Holy shit.
His purchases seem pretty standard for members of Wynnewood. Mostly rounds of Casamigos on the rocks (shocking) and dinners ranging from $100-$400, with a few bills over $1,000.
He joined 8 years ago, but his transactions have only begun to pick up in the last month or so. Before, his visits were sporadic at best.
Briar can’t even fathom having that sort of money to throw away. She started working at age 14 and never stopped. The only reason she gets a taste of country club life is because of her uncle.
She closes out the portal, not wanting to risk Patrick walking in while she’s snooping around. She returns to her spot on the sofa and begins playing 1010! on her phone.
She exhales and tosses her phone to the side. As she sits up, Patrick reenters the pro shop.
“Thanks, Bri. Heading home soon?”
“Yeah, I gotta get back home for Gus,” she smiles, thinking about her dog. Her baby.
“Alright, I’ll catch you later. Say hello to my buddy for me. And give him a butt scratch — Tell him it’s from Uncle Patty.”
“Will do. See ya.”
~
When she’s showered and comfy at home, with Gus, her Bernese Mountain Dog, snuggled at her side, she finally feels relaxed.
Tumblr media
She’s worked nearly every day since she started. But, those are the sacrifices of a summer job.
She turns on Selling Sunset on Netflix to drown out the silence of her apartment. Already bored of this season, she pulls out her phone.
One last round of stalking, then she’ll let it go. She opens Instagram and begins typing in Harry’s name in the search bar. Nothing. Hm.
She tries Niall, immediately getting a hit. She clicks on his account to find it public, full of funny and happy photos. He’s clearly from Ireland, but has lived in the United States for some time. She wonders if he went to school here, or if he just got a job here.
She scrolls down to a group photo — on the golf course, of course — of Niall, Harry, and a few other guys. They look a lot younger here. She can see the photo is from 7 years ago. Harry’s stoic face is a stark contrast to Niall’s infectious smile. She clicks on the photo to see if Harry’s profile is tagged. Nothing.
Defeated, she moves onto LinkedIn. She tries Harry’s name again. Within 10 seconds of the search engine results popping up on the screen, her eyes land on exactly what she’s looking for. He has a profile. Her heart starts beating a little faster.
Really, Briar? All this for a guy you’ve barely caught a glimpse of? She clicks on the profile and sees the most gorgeous man at the top. He looked good from afar, but this is totally different.
Sticking out to her is his chiseled jaw, pouty lips, and beautiful (green?) eyes. His hair is longer in this photo than what she’s seen him with the past 2 times at the club, but she figures this page is old.
She scrolls down to the employment history. He works for a hedge fund. No wonder he has that kind of cash laying around. He’s been at the same company for a number of years, and received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown and his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania. Smart dude.
She notes his MBA graduation year is 2006. She laughs, knowing she was probably still playing on a playground that year.
She exits out of the page, proud of her findings. She decides to text Cam about Niall’s friend.
B: Hey! So I totally stalked Niall online. His friend’s name is Harry! 😆
C: So funny, how’d u do it? 😂
B: Instagram for Niall, and earlier, I used Wynnewood’s portal to look up Harry. I just went on his LinkedIn, too. Now, I know all about his work and schooling, lol.
C: Your account is private, right? 😳
C: It notifies people if you’ve looked at their profile unless you’re private…
B: What?! I didn’t know that…WTF do I do?
Briar’s stomach drops. He’s probably already gotten the notification by now. She’s mortified. She logs back on to LinkedIn and deactivates her account. Reddit says those are her best chances of counteracting the notification.
She decides to go to bed, but ends up tossing and turning until 3 AM, knowing her alarm is set for 6:30. She stares at the ceiling, pleading for Harry not to show up at the club tomorrow.
~
The morning comes around, and after mustering enough courage to get up and make herself presentable, she rolls into work, ready to jump on her cart and be lazy. The universe (or Uncle Patrick, probably!) has a different plan.
Since it’s a holiday weekend, Briar is working inside for a change. She feels a little out of her element. She’s worked in restaurants in the past, but it’s always a little stressful when you have know idea where anything is, or how to use the register.
Taking a moment to survey the large banquet room, she doesn’t see Niall or Harry. She begins to relax. Until, 30 minutes later, she sees both of them enter and begin talking to the hostess.
Please don’t go to my section, she thinks. She watches the girl gathers 4 menus and turns to lead the men further into the room. Briar’s worry grows more with each step the hostess takes toward her section. Fuck.
She seats them down at a 4 person table right in the middle of Briar’s section, assuming the two men from yesterday will be joining them.
She takes a few deep breaths before grabbing a water jug and two stemmed water glasses. She casually approaches the table, lightly placing the water glasses down and filling them.
Niall looks up briefly with a smile before exclaiming, “There she is! I requested you to be our server after I saw you at the coffee machine over there.”
Briar smiles before turning her attention to Harry, who hasn’t glanced up from his menu. She looks back at Niall.
“Awesome! This is going to be great,” she lies through her teeth.
While this exchange is happening, she can feel Cam’s eyes burning through the back of her head. Cam is the service bartender of the day, so she has time to people watch and laugh at Briar’s bad luck.
“Are we waiting for any more guests to join us?” Briar asks.
Niall clears his throat and says, “Yes, those two blokes from yesterday. Harry here is going to close the deal with them today.”
Harry glances up at her with a shy smile. She reciprocates, unsure if he’s aware of her cyberstalking from last night.
“Wow, well, I’ll make sure my service is extra good, then. Can I throw in some drinks while you wait?”
“I’ll have an Old Fashioned. Harry?” Niall turns to his friend.
“Casamigos on the rocks for me, please. With a lime. Thank you.”
“You got it,” she says with a tight-lipped smile. Of course that’s the very first thing he ever says to her. And he’s BRITISH?
Cam laughs as the ticket prints at the bar.
“Oh, shut up,” Briar grumbles.
~
The other men finally arrive, and the meal goes by at a snail’s pace. When the group is finally ready to order, Briar is already mentally checked out. Briar goes to take Harry’s order.
“What can I get for you?”
“I’ll have the chicken, please,” he says simply.
“And how would you like that cooked?” Briar asks, furiously scribbling on her note pad.
Harry’s face contorts to a perplexed look, almost as if he was about to laugh.
“Um…cooked…all the way through?” He stifles a chuckle.
Niall bursts out laughing, cluing Briar in. She realizes the others ordered porterhouse steaks, so, out of habit, she asked how they’d like them prepared.
Her eyes go wide, “Right, well, I’ll go put these in. Thanks!” She shuffles away at lightning speed.
Harry stares at her from across the room, smirking when they make eye contact. She wants to bury her head in the sand trap on the golf course.
When the meal is done, the men shake hands, and Niall and Harry look relieved. They ask for another round of drinks for the two of them and the check. Niall heads toward the restroom while Harry pays. She tries to bolt as soon as the check is dropped, but she hears Harry clear his throat.
She turns to face him.
“We’re about to go play a quick round of 9-holes to celebrate. Are you our beer angel today, or are you stuck in here?” Harry says, as he opens his wallet.
Briar feels her heart begin to race. She’s sure her face is beet red. The word angel rolls off his tongue so easily.
“Um, no, I’m um, stuck in here for the rest of the day. I’ll be back on Sunday, though,” she says quietly.
“Shame, I was starting to think you were bringing me all of my luck. I’ve been crushing these guys in our last few rounds,” he smiles, swirling the remnants of his drink around.
She bites the inside of her lip, unsure if she should still be holding eye contact. He hands her the checkbook, full of cash. She smiles, unable to speak.
“Oh, and Briar— I’m an open book. If you wanted to know more about me, you could’ve just asked,” he says with a sickeningly sweet smile.
That’s the moment Niall returns to the table, and presumably the only reason she doesn’t drop to the floor in fetal position.
“Thanks, Briar. Lunch was great. We’ll see you next time,” Niall says sweetly.
“Thanks!” she squeaks, scurrying to the back, where she nearly mows down Cam.
“Woah! What’re you doing?” Cam squeals.
“He KNOWS!” Briar wails.
“Who? Who knows — OH!” Cam shrieks. “What did he say to you?”
“He said, ‘Briar, I’m an open book. If you wanted to know more about me, you could’ve just asked.’”
Cam’s mouth drops open. “Did he say it with his sexy accent and sultry voice?”
“Shut up!”
“Fine. Well, what did he tip you?” she asks, reaching for the book in Briar’s hand.
She opens it, finding enough cash to cover the $450 tab, and an extra $300 as a tip.
“Damn! Who has that much cash at one time?” Cam laughs.
Briar flips to the back of the book, only to find a note on a small piece of paper:
I’m an Aquarius, in case you were wondering. : - )
She stares blankly at the note. When did he have time to do this? Was he going to slip this note to her regardless? A million thoughts run through her head, until she hears Cam.
“What a creepy-ass old person smiley face,” she says, shaking her head.
Briar thinks it’s the cutest thing in the world.
~
Finally, her shift ends and she can escape the club, just for a day. As she heads towards the women’s locker room, she’s rummaging through her bag, attempting to fish out her street clothes so she can change as quickly as possible.
As she stalks closer to the locker room, she collides head-first into a firm, wet object. She feels strong hands grasp her hips to steady her.
“What the fuck?” she says, moving the hair out of her eyes, only to be met with a strong tattooed torso, partially covered by towel tied loosely around the person’s waist.
Her next words die in her throat as she looks up.
Harry.
Harry, who just left the steam room.
He smirks down at her, gently letting go of her waist. Suddenly, she feels hot, as if she were just in there with him. Briar’s fight or flight kicked-in, causing her to spin on her heels and flee in the opposite direction.
He senses she’d run, so he gently grabs her wrist, locking her in place. She peers up at him like a deer in headlights. His other hand is firmly planted on his hip to hold up his towel, in fear of giving the whole club a show.
He tilts her chin up so she’s making direct eye contact. Her stomach drops, sending a wave of nausea through her body. She studies his face; long eye lashes, slight stubble and two dimples that form as he smirks down at her softly.
“I told you, I’m not shy.”
He releases her chin and saunters back to the mens’ locker room.
