I love how Sara told August "You love the person you become when you're with me." Because it's so true.

From what we learn from August, before all the bullying and the loss of his father, August probably was a good and sweet kid, a bit like he was with Sara in season 2. All those trauma changed him to someone else and he lost himself in the way. He tried to become "strong" so that he wouldn't have to face those trauma again. (That does not excuse his actions, I agree, but I'm not talking about that here).

With Sara, he got to be "himself" once again and it must have felt so good to no have to "perform" anymore. To just be. So of course he associated that with being in love with Sara. But like she said, he wasn't. He was just in love with the person he became when around her.
