#it was a dream job for a long time to become a meteorologist
Note
I'm the anon from the kids' grown up job asks. Please tell me more about how they achieve their dream jobs!!
Ah, one of the speedster Anons! Sure thing~This one ended up being very long, so everyone is under the cut!
For context, the kids' dream jobs can be found Here (for Mains and Some Others) and There (for the Rest, mainly LN1 Comic)!
The Kids
Six (the Bad Guy): Assuming that she's still alive, she always wanted to be a villain. She doesn't know that entails, but she wanted to commit crimes and get away with it. It's surprisingly lucrative, and she's has yet to be caught!
the Runaway Kid (Librarian or Book Shoppe Owner): He just really likes books, and a library is peaceful and quiet. He gets a job on the Maw, being the personal librarian to the Lady. It's not want he expected, but he has access to books about dark magic and stuff, and that's cool Mono (Traveler/Adventurer): Assuming that he doesn't end up being the next Broadcaster, Mono just wants to travel the world. It's fun and dangerous, but mostly fun! He likes exploring ruins more than cities and villages the Raincoat Girl (Meteorologist): Always had a fascination with the weather and wanted to purse a career in it. After she leaves the Nest (finally), she gets a job as at the weather station and tracks dangerous storms. Can tell you when it'll rain just by looking at certain clouds the Pretender (CEO of a Toy Company): Loves toys and power, so CEO is the way to go. Surprisingly does an extremely good job, even with her selfish decisions. Has the top toy company in the world
the Spoon Girl (Dentist): One of the few kids that liked going to the dentist, and that’s what made her want to become one. She ends up specializing in pediatric dentistry, making sure her child patients are comfortable. Will harp on you to floss! the Lollipop Kid (Professional Wrestler): Since he was bullied often, he wanted to be a wrestler to defend himself. He ends up becoming a long time heavy weight champion, but has the ridiculous stage name of “Sugar Plum” the Ghost Kid (Paranormal Investigator): Just really likes ghosts, and is fascinated by them. He ends up teaming up with the Humpback Girl and they make a name for the selves. They’re the pair you call if something strange is happening in your neighborhood the Toddler (a Wolf): Didn’t exactly become a wolf, but ends up becoming an animal researcher, specifically for wolves. He had more of a feral upbringing, so he gets animal behaviors easily. The wolf pack he’s watching sort of adopted him into their pack, too
the Green Boy (Storyteller): Always enjoy stories, whether they’re written down or spoken. He ends up becoming a traveling story teller, becoming quite famous in the process. He’s tried writing down his stories, but he always forgets them when he’s done the Refugee Boy (Super hero): Another person that didn’t exactly become what he wanted, but close enough. Refugee Boy ends up becoming some sort of vigilante against criminals. He stops crime before it happens or it gets out of hand; and no, he doesn’t have a cool name or suit the Refugee Boy’s Sister (Hair stylist): Has always been good at styling hair and geeked out when she learned that could be a career. She runs a hair salon where she’s usually sought out for braiding styles. Her favorites to do are French Braids and Milkmaid the Long Haired Girl (Fortune Teller): Has always claimed to be connected to the universe and has psychic powers, so that’s why she wanted to be a fortune teller. Whether she has these gifts or not is up for debate, but she likes giving tarot card or tea readings. Some of her readings are weirdly accurate... the Humpback Girl (Ghost Buster): She feels like she has an obligation to protect people from the supernatural. She teams up with the Ghost Kid because he likes checking out haunted places. If something checks out to be too dangerous, she deals with it the Mummy Kid (Horror actor): Always wanted to be a movie star, specifically for horror movies. He usually plays the monster/villain roles and has made a following out of it. When he’s not shooting a movie, he’s still hanging out with Ghost Kid to get more inspiration to make his monster roles scarier the Tall Boy (Rich): The Tall Boy doesn’t really want a job. He just wants to be filthy rich, and the fastest way he accomplished that was becoming a trophy househusband. He does a good job maintaining his partner’s estate the Forked Boy (Magician): Listen, it was either professional thief or magician. He chose magic because at least he can trick people for money and not get in trouble for it. He does more street magic like David Blaine, and got a large following for it the Strong Boy (MMA Fighter): He has to use his superhuman strength for something, right? He learned how to properly control his power and reigns as an undefeated champion. He’s also a big fan of Lollipop Kid’s matches
the Flash Light Girl (Archeologist): Likes discovering things and was surprised to learn she could do that as a living. She’s the exact opposite of Mono and explores abandoned villages and cities more than ancient ruins. There’s just something appealing studying once thriving civilizations the Bread Boy (Baker): Another child that worked at the Maw, but he helped the Twin Chefs in the kitchens. They soon discovered he has a gift for baking, and he started making all the bake goods for the ship. He prefers making bread over cake and cookies, but enjoys his job the Scarf Kid (Professional Skier): Actually, he didn’t know what he wanted to be as an adult, but ended up getting into skiing. He’s trying to get a place at the Olympics to get a gold medal

As tagged by @tealdog, my most treasured person.
♫Do you play an instrument? I play fife in Rev War reenactments, bassoon in an orchestra, and piano (there's no reason for this. I just do). Other instruments I have learned to play (and could play) have included: the drums, guitar, bass electric guitar, trumpet, piccolo, and oboe
•Favourite book characters? Probably Dunbar and Clevinger from Catch 22, and more favourite than them would be either Milo or Wintergreen. However, I can't abide by the Closing Time versions of either of them as Closing Time reads more like a fever dream than a real book and thus I've sworn a personal vendetta against it.
•What’s your star sign? Capricorn, which I'm pretty sure is the most boring one from everything I've seen about it
•Favourite colour schemes? Warm grey is my very favourite but I've been an orange enjoyer for a long time. However... recently I've come to love teal :')
•Naps or long sleep? i could go an entire day running solely on periodic naps. fucking love naps
•What languages do you speak? English! I did study icelandic for a while, and I know Spanish and hope to one day become fluent (it's important to someone important to me). I also am working hard to learn ASL, as i'm hard of hearing.
•Dreams/aspirations? my big dream is to work a small little job in a cozy town and live in an apartment with someone special (hi aud :) turnabout is fair play, my dear). Ideally it would be a quiet life and nothing too eventful, but each day would be filled with enjoyable small tasks and would thus be comfortable. A lesser aspiration is to one day become a TV meteorologist, but I could give or take that as I've got a pretty happy tour guide job right now. Also to publish my novel that I've been working on for a year :)
•Long hair or Short Hair? short hair is the best!! i used to have long hair (not very long) but after I donated it to charity, I was much happier with the short haircut. Sometimes I trim it on my own with scissors or clippers, and I've even buzzed it once or twice.
•Tea or coffee? Coffee any day, in moderation. My coffee is usually largely made of milk and sugar too, so it's not Pure Coffee in any sense of the word.
•Bring a book character to life or go into a fictional world? Book characters are in their books for a reason and I'm in the real world for a reason. Neither.
Well, I would've tagged aud but you see how that's ended up. So... I'll tag a few other catch22 guys I know: @peaceandl0ve and @prksoda and @sheepinthebigcity, if you'd like!

A Shoe Story by Jane L. Rosen
Esme Nash is eager to leave her small town and begin her carefully planned post-grad life: a move to New York City, an apartment with her loving college boyfriend, and a fancy job at an art gallery. But when tragedy strikes, instead of heading to Manhattan, she returns home to care for her ailing father, leaving every bit of her dream behind. Seven trying years later, Esme is offered a dog-sitting job in Greenwich Village by a mysterious stranger, giving her access to all of her long-buried hopes and dreams--as well as to an epic collection of designer shoes. Esme jumps at a second chance to step into the future she's sure was meant to be hers. As she retraces her steps, one pair of borrowed shoes at a time, making new friends and reconnecting with her old love, Esme tries on versions of herself she didn't know existed. But the hazy August days and warm summer nights pass too quickly, and Esme must decide how much of the life she imagined still fits, and what--and who--is on the road ahead of her.

Bio:
Adrian is born another offspring of Asher's, being the direct younger brother of Kory Hall. Just like Kory, Asher would also abandon and leave Adrian up for adoption to an unsuspecting family on earth. Adrian, unlike Kory, would be adopted into an average family of moderate wealth. But would face far less complications in his life than Kory would because of this. Adrian's parents were loving and would dote on Adrian as he grew up. Adrian would develop appropriately. Even made many good friends in his childhood. Friends who would make him the leader of their little group, due to his being the most fun and adventurous of all the other kids in the group.
As a child he would sign up for and participate in school science fairs, particularly making projects that had to do with the weather, for the most part. Adrian would develop a love for weather at an early age, that would set him up for his future career in the end. While at these school fairs, as well, Adrian would meet another, strange boy, as well. One who seemed often out of place, because of his awkwardness, especially when it had come to his science projects in particular. The other boy, he would come to learn, was named Benjamin. Though he did not know this when he was a boy, Benjamin was from Wonderland, and would be destined to one day become his husband, when they were grown up.
Throughout the rest of his childhood and teenage years Adrian would live a relatively normal and comfortable life. He would become a normal, well rounded, and somewhat involved citizen of his community. Attending college and graduating, then not long after landing his dream job as a Meteorologist. Life had been going very well for Adrian. That was, until he was twenty years old. When something strange began to happen. Demons from Hell started to contact him. This would increase over time. With some demons actually making personal contact with him, only to be turned away. All this was happening at the same time he had gotten into a very serious relationship that he was trying to keep his focus on as well.
Though things took an even stranger turn for the odd when one day while he was out with his significant other someone would give him a wooden spoon while they were out shopping. Not thinking anything of it he went home but soon after, his body started to react to his dormant abilities and birth DNA awakening in his powers. Which did not at all go very smoothly for him to transition. As they would seem to have a mind of their own more often than he could control his powers. Unable to hide his true self from his significant other they finally were able to catch him when at one point a T-Rex attacked him and he had to use his powers the best he could to protect himself as well as the other from the T-Rex. Needless to say, at the end of the day, this seemed too much for his significant other and they would eventually break up with Adrian, thinking it was for the best.
Adrian would look into the incident and try to find out what exactly was going on with him. Soon finding out that someone messing with time had released the T-Rex and he had just been at the wrong place at the wrong time. As he dug more into these kinds of incidents he would eventually come to find his biological brother, Kory, while the other was working in a nearby town as a mortician. The two would not hit it off well however. Which would lead to the two running into each other here and there and often getting into disputes or fighting each other for one reason or another, majorly through Kory's provoking or antagonistic behavior/actions. This would go on for several years.
However, Adrian would one day be abducted and tormented by his abductors to the point his demonic side completely takes over his mind, changing him from who he was into something new. The torture continues even after this until Adrian is corrupted by his demonic blood. The next time he meets Kory the other realizes that Adrian has been changed from the person he once met years before, and finds this amusing. With that he sets out to try and exploit the other and make Adrian become a weapon to be used by him. This results in another fight between the two, where Adrian is defeated by Kory, who forcibly takes control over Adrian's willpower.

TAFAKKUR: Part 255
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE SMALL THINGS
Who does not want to know the future? Is it not one of our impossible dreams to obtain advance information about tomorrow? Events developing in time have such a complicated structure that small things can make all the difference. For example, a small mutation in one (or couple of) gene(s) leads to cancer, which can be a devastating disease. Today, we cannot make long-term predictions; we do not know when the next earthquake is going to take place or how stock market prices will continue to rise and fall. Life is full of these unknown and unpredictable events.
In modeling atmospheric convection in the 1960s, a meteorologist and mathematician at MIT, Edward Lorenz, came up with a mathematical model showing that small perturbations in input parameters result in huge deviations in output, the “butterfly effect.” In other words, in theory, a butterfly flapping its wings in China could bring about a storm in New York City. This is another way to express sensitive dependence on initial conditions. Getting up two minutes late, one may end up missing the bus, which in turn costs one the job interview. As a result of pushing the brake pedal one second earlier a person’s life can be saved. Such slight changes in daily actions are actually signs of how tiny changes are relevant with our lives and how sensitive the future is to the present. Such dependence is called nonlinearity and many scientific problems, such as the well-known Navier-Stokes equations, have been awaiting a solution because of this complexity. In contrast to a deterministic approach, which is based on the idea that the knowledge of the past enables one to make future prediction, a nonlinear (or chaotic) approach claims that the future is not that straightforward.
In contrast to what we used to believe, chaos does not mean complete disorder. Some complicated long-term events may have a hidden order. Being bound by time prevents us from knowing the future. It is in this sense, that time can be said to be another dimension, so that together with the other three, our living environment is formed. To be able to control or observe time-dependent events, the individual of this four-dimensional space may need to move outside of time. To understand this idea better we may analyze the well-known butterfly example. the behaviors of three different variables are very irregular, complicated and chaotic. However, when the same motions are transformed into another space where time is hidden, what we see is an interesting order between these three variables.
Chaos and spiritual life
The human being’s spiritual life is also sensitive to small changes. We are continuously exposed to our personal desires and Satan’s whispers. One small sin is an invitation to worse ones which eventually accumulate and trouble the soul. Similarly, every good deed, no matter how small, has the potential to become a ticket to paradise. It just depends upon the situation in which it was performed and the level of sincerity in our heart. Giving water to a thirsty dog is not an extraordinary act, but in the particular case mentioned in a tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, this sincere act was significant enough to purify a very sinful person, while another went to hell because of letting a cat starve. In another tradition, the Prophet says, “When a person first commits a sin, it falls as a black dot in (the clean slate of) his heart; if he refrains, repents, and seeks forgiveness, it is however erased; if, on the other hand, he were to persist in sin, the dot will gradually expand until it covers the entire heart.” The Prophet then explained, “This is the state of sealing the hearts that God warned (us) of in the Qur’an: Nay the sins they have accumulated have covered their hearts like a seal” (Mutaffifin 83:14). Likewise, in his Risale-i Nur collection Nursi says, “Sin, penetrating the heart, will blacken and darken it until it extinguishes the light of belief. Within each sin is a path leading to unbelief. Unless that sin is swiftly obliterated by seeking God’s pardon, it will grow from a worm into a snake that bites the heart.”1 Likewise, initial tiny scruples can grow exponentially and destroy hope in the heart in an unexpected way. Nursi explains this in the following way:
O you afflicted with involuntary evil thoughts and fancies, such things resemble a misfortune. The more you dwell on them, the more they grow. If you ignore them, they dwindle away; if you exaggerate them, they swell; if you belittle them, they die down. If you fear them, they become grave and make you ill; if you do not fear them, they become slight and remain hidden. If you do not know their real nature, they persist and become established; if you recognize their nature, they disappear.
. . .
Satan first casts a doubt into the heart. If the heart does not admit it, he offers a blasphemy and causes the mind to recall some unclean memories and pictures, some ugly scenes that resemble blasphemy. This causes the heart to despair. People experiencing such thoughts think that they are acting wrongfully toward their Lord and so feel great agitation and anxiety. To free themselves, they flee from the Divine Presence and want to plunge into heedlessness and forgetfulness.
From the human being’s perspective, each time-dependent event can have very complicated consequences but it always bears God’s signature and His divine order. He is the only One Who knows the future, as stated in the verse: “They said, 'Why hasn't a miracle come down to him from his Lord?’ Say, ‘Only God knows the future.’ Therefore, wait, and I will wait along with you” (Yunus 10:20). It may not be possible to see tomorrow, but we should be aware that each small change we make affects our future. Many scholars lived in such a way that they were always carefully watching their hearts to take immediate action on small deeds or scruples. For every event or option we face, the decision is up to us to, like whether we smoke or not, whether we lie or not, whether we get up early or not and so on. These sets of small decisions play a role in terms of the future we do not know. Although they are small, they have such a big impact and should not be underestimated. Even reading this article was one of these small things you had the choice to do or not to do!

[MICHELLE VEINTIMILLA] — you see [ZOE RUIZ] there? yeah, they’re [THE AIRHEAD] and they’ve lived in Havenport for [FOREVER]. [SHE] is [EAGER] & [CHARMING], even though most people think they’re [ANNOYING] & [CLUELESS]. (ooc: amanda, aest, she/her)
BIO:
Zoe’s life has never been anything out of the ordinary. Nothing special. She had plenty of friends in high school. Did cheerleading, theatre. Any sort of sociable after school activity. That sort of attitude had her dabbling in the underage drug and alcohol culture instead of studying, or trying especially hard at her homework.
She didn’t do the best when it came to finals. Didn’t get the scores she needed, not even close, to get into any reputable college. She blamed it on not being able to focus on her schoolwork, but the issues were a lot more underlying than that. She wasn’t exactly the brightest bulb. Wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
This was especially obvious in comparison with her sisters: her oldest sister became a meteorologist, while the younger one became a midwife. They were both wildly successful in their careers, with love, with their families. And at such a young age, too. Zoe was stuck in the middle, stuck doing a one year program at a community college to become a dental assistant. It didn’t take her long to figure out that her dream of becoming a dentist would never be a reality.
Zoe had decided on doing dentistry when she was in elementary school. Unlike most kids, she loved going to the dentist. The rubber gloves on her gums, the metal instruments scraping against her teeth. Lollipops and candy as rewards, afterwards. Their family dentist had a unibrow. And Zoe’s favourite feature on a person was their smile, always. Smiles were always the best part of people.
After her year of community college, Zoe walked out with a diploma and a job as a dental assistant in her hometown. Working with the same dentist she’d been going to her entire life. Starting in the workforce so early, especially compared to her friends, did have its advantages. Zoe got to travel. Tried to travel every year. Europe, South America. She really enjoyed it. And while she wasn’t the smartest, she definitely had street smarts. Her parents called her worldly. And by the time all her high school friends graduated from a four-year college, Zoe already had a lot of real world experience over them. Ten years of full-time work under her belt.
During this time, she had a couple of relationships. One was incredibly long-term: from twenty-four-years old to twenty-eight. It only ended recently, when Zoe had decided she’d had enough of him making her feel stupid. It was a skewed power dynamic between them. He was studying to be an electrical engineer, and constantly held that intelligence over her head. While Zoe is glad it’s over now, she’s also thankful for the relationship. If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t be reconsidering going back to school and fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a dentist. Not an assistant, but a dentist.
HEADCANONS:
Zoe’s parents own a pharmacy in town. Even though she was the middle child, she definitely got the most love and attention. She’s stayed in Davenport forever to keep close to them. Travelling every year keeps her from wanting to leave small-town life.
There’s only a two-year age gap between her and her sisters. The oldest is thirty-one this year, and the youngest will turn twenty-seven.
Zoe is the first to suggest karaoke, but never does it sober. Lucky she still loves to party! She’s a lightweight drinker, but still drinks a lot. Probably an unhealthy amount, but she doesn’t have that much self-awareness to realise that.
She was over the moon when she got braces at twelve-years-old.
Her uncle got his teeth fixed when she was a kid, and she saw how much it changed his life. How much it helped his confidence and his happiness. When people ask her, she attributes this as one of the things that sparked her desire to become a dentist.

We all do, it's just sometimes we don't remember them. <<< I rarely remember them. Sometimes I will briefly, but then it’s gone. It has to really affect me or something for me to remember. A lot of my dreams are just so random and weird. do you remember them? Care to share?: ^^^ when you're sick, do you like to be pampered, or left alone?: It’s definitely nice to be taken care of, but I do like to sleep a lot when I’m sick so it’s a bit of both. who's the better actor, jack nicholson or anthony hopkins?: I don’t know, they’re both good at the creepy. are you superstitious?: Nah. I do the knock on wood thing, but it’s really just out of habit at this point cause I’ve done it so long. how many pictures are in your wallet?: The only photo in my wallet is my ID. do you like getting pictures taken?: No. if someone cries while watching a sad movie..do you laugh at them?: Nooo. Not sure why that’d be funny. I don’t even acknowledge it, I just let them have their moment. I’m probably too into the movie to really notice anyway. how often do you change your sheets?: Twice a month. is you bedroom upstairs or down?: We only have one floor. is it true blood is thicker than water?: Sadly, not always. Some people have toxic families.  if you could wish someone out of your life ..who would it be?: The only people in my life currently are my family and I wouldn’t wish any of them out of my life! I want to vote for someone who I feel can do the best job. Their gender has nothing to do with it. Are looks/appearances really important?: I can’t say it doesn’t matter at all, but it’s not the most important. what are you most looking forward to?: There isn’t anything coming up. if someone lied to you and came clean is that forgivable?: I could forgive them most likely in time, but whether we remain friends or close is another story. It really depends on what the lie was. if you had to repeat a day over and over again..what day would you pick?: Ugh, my life already feels like that. It’s like Groundhog’s Day. Even a good day I wouldn’t want to repeat forever. When you die, do you want to be cremated or buried? Cremated. Did/do you like high school? Parts of it I liked. Do you like to play video games? I use it to subscribe to channels and leave comments if I want. Do you ever go to video game arcades? No. Do you care what people think of you? Yes and no. Not as much as I used to, but that’s not because I’ve become a confident person or anything. I just don’t have the energy to care. I’ve become numb to it I guess. Have you ever had a crush on a teacher? Nope. Do you like Lady Gaga? I like some of her songs. Don’t you hate when your foot falls asleep? I don’t have that problem, but I hate when my hand or arm falls asleep. Do you think you have been in love before? Yes. Do you write poetry? No. I dabbled with it briefly my sophomore year in high school, though. They’re super cringe looking back on them. Do you like Edgar Allan Poe? I liked The Tell-Tale Heart. Have you ever met anyone famous? If so, who? Jamie Lee Curtis and Drake Bell. Have you ever gotten hit on by some creeper? Yeah, a few. Do you watch LifeTime? My mom and I used to all the time back in the day when I was younger. Now we do every once and awhile, usually if there’s nothing else on of interest. What happens is once you start one movie, you end up watching the rest of the day. Do you bless random people when they sneeze? Sometimes. Do you have a short temper? No. I get irritated quite easily, though. Do you like Sarah Dessen? Yeah, I’ve read a few of her books. Do you want to have children? If so, how many? No. Have you ever had a yard sale? No. Do you go to Barnes and Noble for books, the library or someplace else? I use the Kindle app, honestly. I have access to a ton of books. If I wanted a physical copy; though, I’d go to Barnes and Noble. Do you have an iPad? Nope. Are you scared to die? Yes. Do you go to church every Sunday? I watch the videos the church near me uploads every Sunday.  Have you ever called one of those Hot Line numbers? No. I can’t believe those are still a thing. I see the commercials for them still. Do you think you draw well? Ha, no. I can’t draw for shit. Have you ever wanted to be a meteorologist? No. Do you like Taylor Swift? I’m not a fan.

BULLET POINT BIOGRAPHIES
HEADCANONS

A Year Full of ‘No Way!?’ Moments for CCO Magazine
A Year Full of ‘No Way!?’ Moments for CCO Magazine
2017 will go down as the year contributors to the magazine repeatedly blew my mind.
Most editors like to think they have at least a modest (if not better) grasp of the industry they cover. After all, to be a good editor you must be able to tease out the ideas that will educate or delight your readers most – and identifying those requires a baseline of subject matter expertise.
This year was different. At least a half dozen CCO articles in 2017 inspired an exclamation I can only describe as “No sh*t?!,” but for the purposes of this article, I’ll refer to as “No way?!”
Read on to learn about all the amazing contributors and ideas of the past year that blew my mind or delighted me.
Virtual reality and a sit-down with author of The Martian (February 2017)
We started the year interviewing virtual-reality expert Sarah Hill, CEO and chief storyteller for StoryUP, the article titled Immersive Content. No longer the domain of ultra-early adopters and video gamers, virtual reality and augmented reality took off in 2017 … and Sarah was the perfect guide, helping us understand the possibilities and limitations of VR and AR. She also offered case studies from brands using VR, a welcome moment for those of us unable to visualize applications for VR outside of the gaming and consumer entertainment realm.
The world is no longer flat. The internet is fast becoming a place you step inside. @sarahmidmo #virtualreality Click To Tweet
Also in February, I was delighted to interview Andy Weir, author of The Martian. We talked in Las Vegas just before his touching keynote talk at the ICC conference. Andy spoke poignantly about the deep challenges of being a full-time creative, and the lessons marketers may learn from his own journey. Among other nuggets of wisdom, he explained that marketers focus too much on the sale and, in doing so, lose sight of the power of a well-told story.
Marketers focus too much on sale. They lose sight of power of well-told story, says @andyweirauthor. Click To Tweet
He explained, “Audiences are extremely aware of preachiness, especially in the modern era. Hollywood has decided that everything has to have some freaking political message, which drives me crazy. The Martian, by the way, had no political message. Dude didn’t want to die … that’s it. People quickly, even if they don’t do it consciously, identify the message, get mildly annoyed at it, and then start ignoring the parts of the movie that push that. That’s why I try to avoid it. Instead, find the interesting part of your story and then work towards the message, rather than desperately starting with the message and trying to work towards the interesting part.”

Making sense of AI, plus ideas about hiring (April 2017)
Paul Roetzer’s article about the rise of AI-powered content marketing (Cognitive Content Marketing) lit up my brain with possibilities.
.@PaulRoetzer’s plain-English tour of AI in marketing lit up my brain, says @soloportfolio. Click To Tweet
Paul’s plain-English tour of the categories of AI in marketing, and possible on-ramps for timid marketers to consider, was one of my key “no way?!” moments of 2017. If it’s a topic that interests you, I also recommend watching his session from Content Marketing Word (Machine-Assisted Narrative: How to Transform and Scale Your B2B Content With Artificial Intelligence), which is available on demand. Paul did a fantastic job explaining AI in terms even non-technophiles can understand. He also gave us a tour of the most promising technologies in the field, and how marketers are using each.
Also in April, we heard from Sara Noble, a Boston-based search consultant who helps iconic brands hire elite content marketing executives (Are You Ready to Hire Quality?). She said among her first tasks when she speaks to a potential hiring company is to figure out if they are serious about content – and thus worth consideration by top-flight talent. If you’re ready to a hire a high-value content marketing leader, look through her list of questions to ensure that your team and company are truly in a position to benefit from a big investment in top talent.
Excellent #content creators do not come cheap, says Sara Noble via @soloportfolio. Click To Tweet

How data influences story (June 2017)
Some people have been amazing resources to the magazine over the years – people who keep coming back with great ideas, stories, and people. (Cameron Conaway, Andy Vale, and Kirk Cheyfitz … I’m looking at you.)
In that spirit, Andy brought us a “no way?!” story (Data-Driven Creative). Andy interviewed Fred Graver, a four-time Emmy-winning television producer and former head of Twitter TV, who uses social data to influence his screenwriting. Yes, it sounds kind of dystopian, but using analytics to influence creative is an interesting premise and process. And it’s an idea that is here to stay, given our inevitable future of AI-enhanced human creativity.
TV audiences are vocal on @Twitter, allowing for substantial research & building creative, via @AndyVale. Click To Tweet
Also fun to read in the June issue – the interview with Jennifer Watson from The Weather Channel (How The Weather Channel Does Social Media). Most social media managers are hyper-aware of publishing accurate, appropriate social content online, but in Jennifer’s work accuracy can be a life-or-death situation. For a weather nerd like myself, it was a dream come true to speak to Jennifer and peer into her daily life.

Inspiration from the content maven at GE (August 2017)
GE’s social media personality has long been a favorite of mine. And my all-time favorite campaign from GE: its play on the Hey Girl meme for Valentine’s Day, but instead of Ryan Gosling, Thomas Edison is the flirt.
The company makes it look easy, but bringing that voice and personality to a brand as big and iconic as GE is a huge challenge (How GE Gives Recruiting Content a Personality Lift). Chief Marketing Officer Linda Boff said the key is in knowing what human values the brand stands for. She explained, “Our DNA is innovation, technology, research and manufacturing. It’s something we have all fallen in love with at GE. That’s our guiding light. We never try to pretend something we’re not.”
A lot of companies could name the same values as GE does, but what makes GE’s execution of those values special is the way it transforms them into a human personality. Boff said, “We often talk about showing up as a person would versus how a corporation would. How do you do that? With humor. A wink. A twist.”
Establish a brand voice that’s inherently human & relatable to your audience. @lindaboff #recruiting Click To Tweet
Also in August, an article from one of my favorite CCO contributors, Kirk Cheyfitz (How Advertising is Killing the WWW). Kirk has long railed against the overreaches of advertising and how poor behavior by advertisers will ruin online marketing for the rest of us. Kirk is such an elegant writer that the article is worth reading if only to see how a masterful creative unpacks a complex topic. Also keep an eye out for his Guide to Digital Decency and Success in the same piece.
Digital advertising’s many deadly sins have generated a plague of problems for everybody, says @KirkCheyfitz. Click To Tweet

A Voice Revolution Caps the Year (November 2017)
Finally, in November we published one of my all-time favorite articles of all time. (That sentence just triggered our blog editor.) (Note from editor: Yes, the sentence made me clutch my pearls, but I kept it just this once for writer authenticity.)
Britney Muller from Moz explained the “no way?!” effect of voice assistants on SEO. Of course, I heard rumblings of how voice search would transform SEO, but Britney patiently explained it in a way that all marketers could understand. It’s possibly my favorite article of the year simply because of how much I learned.
And, for giggles, read Andrew Davis’ column, in which he uttered the words, How to Manscape Your Butt  (though to be fair, he was quoting someone else). Andrew and his guest columnist, Becky Montchal, call out Dollar Shave Club for excluding half of the world’s population in its shave-related content marketing.

With humor. A wink. A twist.”
